Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week officially started today when Super Bowl Champion Victor Cruz, wide receiver for the New York Giants, cut the ribbon outside the tents at Lincoln Center.

Peter Levy, SVP and Managing Director of IMG Fashion, introduced Cruz and told the media to expect him to be sitting in the front row at plenty of shows this week.

In addition to the huge win on Sunday, Cruz also scored a modeling contract with mega-agency IMG Worldwide. Expect public experiences and marketing campaigns in his future.

For you fashionistas who don't know who Cruz is: he was the one who did the salsa after scoring a touchdown for the Giants in the first half of the Super Bowl.

Check out some scenes from the ribbon-cutting:

CNN Suspends Roland Martin For Anti-Gay Tweets

CNN has suspended commentator Roland Martin over tweets during the Super Bowl that GLAAD and others blasted as homophobic.

"Roland Martin's tweets were regrettable and offensive," the network said in a statement Wednesday. "Language that demeans is inconsistent with the values and culture of our organization, and is not tolerated. We have been giving careful consideration to this matter, and Roland will not be appearing on our air for the time being."

Also read: Tracy Morgan Mocks Gay Rant Controversy, But GLAAD Is Laughing

The suspension broke CNN's silence on the tweets. Martin had called for beating men who enjoyed an ad featuring David Beckham in his underwear and a man who was dressed in pink. He later apologized for any offense he had caused and said he was not advocating violence against gays.

"If a dude at your Super Bowl party is hyped about David Beckham's H&M underwear ad, smack the ish out of him!" he said in one tweet. In the other, he said, "Who the hell was that New England Patriot they just showed in a head to toe pink suit? Oh, he needs a visit from #teamwhipdatass."

GLAAD said that Martin's remarks seemed to reflect a history of advocating violence against homosexuals, noting that he had defended Tracy Morgan when the "30 Rock" star said during a comedy routine that he would stab his son if he ever spoke to him in an effeminate voice.

Martin was back on Twitter after CNN announced his suspension Wednesday, and responded to a man who commented on Martin's appearance on the network's election coverage Tuesday.

"Was it me or did @rolandsmartin seem a little edgy last night on @CNN? I vaguely considered watching my primary coverage on FNC in protest," said the man, consultant Tim K. Long.

"Nope," Martin replied. "I'm always giving on-point commentary."

In a blog post Monday that he called his "final thoughts" on the Super Bowl tweets, Martin denied that he supported violence against gays and bullying.

"That is furthest from the truth, and I sincerely regret any offense my words have caused," he said.

He also said that he himself had been bullied as a child, and that a bully once pulled a knife on his father for trying to defend him and his brother.

GLAAD said Tuesday that Martin's statement and discussion of his own bullying was a start, but called on him to meet with gay advocacy groups. It also called on CNN to respond -- which it now has.

After the suspension, GLAAD again called on Martin to meet with its members.

"CNN today took a strong stand against anti-LGBT violence and language that demeans any community," said GLAAD spokesperson Rich Ferraro. "Yesterday, Martin also spoke out against anti-LGBT violence. We look forward to hearing from CNN and Roland Martin to discuss how we can work together as allies and achieve our common goal of reducing such violence as well as the language that contributes to it."

After Morgan apologized for his comments last year, Martin defended them by saying they were within the context of a standup routine.

"Go listen to some of your favorite comedians and tell me if they said racist, sexist, homophobic stuff about any group," he wrote on his blog. "Go ahead and update/tweet it. I think many of you would be shocked and amazed that you laughed hysterically at some of the most sexist, homophobic, racist stuff."

Not only is the hilarious "Bridesmaids" the highest-grossing-R-rated female comedy of all time, but it's also the most-ordered video-on-demand (VOD) film.

The Universal Pictures comedy has brought in $24 million to date according to Rentrak's OnDemand Essentials. Worldwide, the film grossed over $288 million.

There were rumbles of a potential sequel to the two-time Oscar nominated film; however, Kristen Wiig squashed any rumors last month.

"We're not planning on doing one," she told E! Online. “We had a special time making the first one, but we’re really excited to try something else.”

Beyoncé And Jay-Z Just Trademarked Their Baby

Beyonce Baby

Three weeks after Blue Ivy Carter was introduced into the world as their heir to the throne, Jay-Z and Beyoncé filed an application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to protect their baby's name.

With the trademark, no one, no how, no way, no where, will be able to use the name "Blue Ivy Carter" on any baby carriages, baby cosmetics, diaper bags and other lines for trés chic infants.

According to The Washington Post, Jay and Bey submitted the necessary paperwork on January 26.  Blue Ivy was born January 7 and was immediately the subject of copycats looking to capitalize on the name.

Just four days after Blue Ivy was born, fashion designer Joseph Mbeh applied to trademark the already-famous newborn's name—but was denied.

Mbeh claimed that his New Jersey-based clothing and accessories company had intended to pitch Jay-Z and Beyonce a range of branded children’s clothing “in hopes that a business relationship could be formed to create Blue Ivy Carter NYC for them."

According to the Washington Post:

Mbeh, who intended to produce children’s dresses, skirts, and underwear using the name, issued a groveling statement after his Jan. 25 smackdown from the feds. A big misunderstanding!: He planned to pitch the idea to Beyoncé and Jay-Z and never, ever, intended to poach any of their baby bucks.

Protective parents Beyoncé and Jay-Z responded by filing a submission of their own under Knowles' BGK Trademark Holdings.

While a decision with the USPTO is still pending, the famous couple's wishes will most likely be granted as even non-celeb parents are allowed to trademark their childrens' names.

Needless to say, don't mess with Jay and Bey.

Katy Perry

After reaching a final divorce settlement this week that amicably divided Katy Perry and Russell Brand's property and assets, Perry signed her divorce papers Tuesday—with a smiley face.

Well, it is the bubbly pop star's trademark signature but it signifies a different sort of happy ending for the former couple, who were married just a year and a half.

And the settlement came less than two months after Brand filed his initial divorce petition

Despite the couple not having a prenuptial agreement, Brand, worth a reported $20 million, won't be asking for any of Perry's reported $70 million fortune.

In court documents filed on Tuesday, Perry and Brand agreed that they "have entered into a comprehensive written settlement of all issues, including, without limitation, with respect to the property to be confirmed or assigned to each party."

Brand released a statement saying, "Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends."

Meet T-Mobile's Gorgeous Girl In Pink: 23-Year-Old Carly Foulkes

carly foulkes t mobile

The T-Mobile girl is more than just a pink dress.

Her name is Carly Foulkes, and the graphic novel-reading, skateboard-loving, video-game playing, 23-year-old isn't your typical model/actress/whatever.

Since she took over for Catherine Zeta-Jones as the T-Mobile spokesperson in 2010, Americans have gotten to know her as the feminine side of the technology world. But did you know that she doesn't even have a Facebook account?

We took a look past her cell phone plan.

Foulkes is from our neighbor to the North.

According the description on her Twitter handle, "I am Canadian. Embrace it. Love it. ...Please:)"

The province? Again, according to her Twitter, "Your moms house."

Foulkes was born to British parents who raised her in Toronto. She spent her summers in the UK.

Nobody likes you when you're 23.

Foulkes was born on August 4, 1988, which makes her a Leo. According to an interview with My Daily, she was distressed when false rumors spread last year that the astrological calendar had shifted.

If we are going to take the whole astrology thing seriously, being a Leo means Foulkes can be a little melodramatic and vain, but she is also ambitious, encouraging, and loyal.

Ok, but seriously, what's she like?

Carly Foulkes loves to skateboard.

She also loves playing video games.

How Kate Middleton Saved Pantyhose With 'The Duchess Effect'

Kate Middleton Princess Duchess of CambridgeThis post originally appeared at GlobalPost

Kate Middleton isn't known for being flashy.

You won't see her wearing something out of Lady Gaga's closet, or even sporting stilettos that have over a three-inch heel. Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, may not be what many in the fashion world consider "fashion forward". However, even without the fashion moniker, she has single handedly breathed life into brands like Jenny Packham and Temperly. She is even credited with the return of pantyhose.

According to the annual analysis by the Global Language Monitor (GLM), the term "The Duchess Effect" is sitting atop the Fashion Buzzword List for the second year in a row. Proof that Kate doesn't have to be over the top to matter in fashion.

GLM's Manhattan-based Fashion Director, Bekka Payack, says of the buzzword:

“The Duchess Effect appears to extend much further than the economic impact of Kate’s fashion choices; this year the fashion landscape seems to be a brighter, more accessible place with the styles more colorful, feminine and graceful than we’ve observed in many years. Fashion is now being influenced from all points on the globe, with the rise of the regional fashion centers driving tribal, sustainable and eco-based trends."

Part of Kate's charm, as Payack points out, is her accessable wardrobe. A great example of The Dutchess Effect, defined by GLM as, "The positive economic impact of Kate Middleton’s fashion choices, derived from her new title, ‘the Duchess of Cambridge,'" is evident in the bottom line of mid-range line Reiss. After Kate began wearing the line to several events, including a white shift dress by the brand in her engagement photos, Reiss' profit margin doubled, going from £4.3 million to £8.5 million ($6.7 million to $13.2 million) in 2011.

Beyond the help Kate has given to retail, she has helped shape a new style for women around the world. Kate has played a part in bringing back lady-like fashion. Women emulate her look by wearing longer dresses (the midi length dress is one of Spring 2012's hottest looks), preppy style and ultra feminine prints.

And yes, that feminine fashion includes nude pantyhose. After wearing the sheer look, several brands including TightsPlease noted a 90 percent spike in sales.

Women everywhere want to feel like a princess. This way even with a $3 pair of pantyhose, we can.

epilepsy-warning-jay-z-kanye-westJay-Z and Kanye West debuted their much-anticipated video for their hit single "Ni**as in Paris" at noon today. However, you may want to think twice before viewing.

The "Watch the Throne" album single premiered on VEVO and was slapped with a warning from Epilepsy Action saying the video may "trigger seizures."

The video contains mirrored mash-ups of the duo performing their hit at a concert performance. The entirety looks like you're viewing from the inside of a kaleidoscope—a cool concept that can easily become traumatic for the eyes.

However, West is no stranger to producing possibly epilepsy-inducing music videos

Last February, he released his video for "All of the Lights," off the album "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy."

Shortly after the video was posted, Epilepsy Action called for it to be taken down and the video was for some period of time. The video currently appears on YouTube with a warning label prior to screening.

After Maria Menounos lost a Super Bowl bet to her fellow "EXTRA" correspondent AJ Calloway, the Patriots' number one fan was forced to wear a bikini, live, on-air, in the middle of Times Square.

"I never in a million years would have ever thought we were going to lose," Menounos told Business Insider at the QVC New York Fashion Week Show on Wednesday.

"I begged and pleaded to do it at The Grove in L.A." admitted the TV personality. "But you can't welch on a bet."

After indulging in "fried green beans, loaded tater tots and loaded potato skins" during the big game in Indianapolis, Menounos says she rarely works out but does admit she is simply "genetically blessed in the ab department—even when I was 40 pounds heavier, I had a six-pack."

Weather GirlsMother Nature Network, the eco-centric website launched by the Rolling Stones' longtime keyboardist/musical director Chuck Leavell, has scoured local and national TV networks to compile a list of 15 male and female TV personalities who they think are “America’s Hottest Weather Forecasters."

From New York to Minnesota to Los Angeles, these forecasters have the duty of telling you whether your day will call for a jacket, umbrella, or sunscreen—and they look good doing it.

These 15 men and women boast naturally telegenic personalities, biceps worth boasting about, Crest-whitened smiles and salon-perfect hair.

Well, in most cases.

Do you agree with MNN's top picks?

Julie Durda: WSVN 7, Miami/Fort Lauderdale

Sign: Aquarius

Status: This smokin’ San Francisco 49ers cheerleader-turned-certified meteorologist has a knack for raising pulses across various markets including Sacramento, Phoenix and now Miami where she mesmerizes as the morning weather diva at WSVN 7. Having once appeared on “The Bachelor,” we thought that perhaps she was still on a quest to find love. Alas, according to a recent post on her Facebook page, she’s snagged herself one lucky fiancé.

More info here.

Adam Joseph: WPVI, Philadelphia

Sign: Unknown

Status:
Not much is known about the relationship status of this Boston-born, Philly-based meteorologist and fitness junkie (his interests include “weight lifting, running, biking, swimming, and making every day count”) but we do know this much: If Joseph were to do his seven-day forecast sans shirt, ratings at WPVI would go through the roof.

More info here.

Jackie Guerrido: Univision

Sign: Libra

Status: Puerto Rican export Guerrido bounced around Miami’s Spanish-speaking television and radio circuit before landing her current gig as a meteorologist with Univision. From 2008 to 2011 the former “Mira Quien Baila!” contestant had a steady in the form of reggaeton performer Don Omar, but is now back on the market.

How The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Cover Went From Conservative To Tops Optional

sports illustrated model beach irina shayk

The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue debuted in 1964 as a five page supplement meant to increase readership during the winter sports lull after the Super Bowl.

The very first cover featured a model in a conservative, non-revealing bikini. The photo was shot at a wide angle, almost focusing more on the beach background than the model.

Throughout the 60's, 70's, and 80's, the covers remained fairly tame; they generally featured a beautiful woman wearing a bathing suit any young woman would wear to the beach.

In the 90's and 2000's, a trend began. The models started wearing less and less, and the camera focused more and more on their bodies, and less on the surrounding scene.

Here's the first swimsuit cover from 1964. The bathing suit is hardly revealing and the camera angle is wide

A few years later in 1969, the model wore a skirt over her bikini and someone else was in the background of the shot

In 1970, the model wore a very conservative long sleeve top

"Hide yo kids, hide yo wife" because Madonna's 1996 stalker, who has "very violent tendencies," has just escaped from the psych ward in a Los Angeles-area hospital and is currently at large.

Robert Dewey Hoskins, the 54-year-old stalker, formerly served 10 years in prison after threatening to slit Madonna's throat if she didn't marry him—and now he has his sights set on Halle Berry.

"Hoskins is highly psychotic when not taking his medication and has very violent tendencies," the LAPD said in a statement. "The public is being warned to notify police immediately if he is found, and to not engage him on their own."

In 1996, Madonna testified at Hoskins' trial that she had recurring nightmares after seeing the homeless drifter near her home in 1995. After Hoskins scaled the wall outside of the pop star's Hollywood home the next month, her guards were forced to shoot him.

Currently, Hoskins' death threats to Berry are why the actress is trying to move to France with her daughter.

Chelsea Handler Stands By Her Decision To Have An Abortion At Age 16

Funny lady Chelsea Handler turned serious when she opened up about her abortion at age 16 to Rosie O'Donnell this week.

The "Are You There, Chelsea?" star discussed how it was the right decision for her during her teenage years in an interview on "The Rosie Show."

"I was so delusional," Handler told O'Donnell. "I was like, I'm ready for a baby,"

Despite originally being ecstatic about becoming a mom, Handler revealed her parents convinced her the pregnancy might not be the best idea, and ultimately led to her decision to terminate the pregnancy.

"I was trying to argue with them and they were like, 'You're throwing your entire life away,'" Handler said."'You're supposed to create a life for yourself…and we're certainly not going to raise it for you.'"

O'Donnell brought up the Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion mentioning how it ruined others' lives; however, Handler, who's now 36, stands by her decision without regrets, admitting she "wouldn't be a good mother."

"You should do whatever you want with your body, and you shouldn't let anyone tell you what to do," Handler said. "It's your decision. I have no regrets at all."

On Sunday, Chipotle Will Air Its First-Ever TV Ad — And It Is Totally EPIC

Chipotle ad

Last summer, Chipotle, Willie Nelson, and a team of animators teamed together to create an unexpectedly moving two-minute short to promote sustainable food practices (video below).

While "Back to the Start" played in 10,000 movie theaters and has been viewed over four million times on YouTube, the 19-year-old burrito chain will now premiere the spot as their first-ever national TV advertisement during Sunday night's Grammys.

It's particularly fitting because the animation is set to the soundtrack of 10-time Grammy winner Willie Nelsen singing Coldplay's Grammy nominated song "The Scientist".

Last year's Grammy telecast drew 26 million viewers, so an even larger audience will be able to appreciate the 1,230 store chain's humane farming efforts.

“We have always understood the importance of serving food that is raised right, but that is a difficult thing to communicate with the limitations of traditional advertising," said Steve Ells, founder, chairman, and co-CEO of Chipotle, which increased its revenue by 23.6 percent last year to $2.3 billion. "‘Back to the Start’ tells the story of a farmer’s journey from traditional farming to an industrial food production model, then back to his roots of traditional farming again – a story that tracks closely with some of our suppliers and that demonstrates why we think it is so important to serve food made with ingredients from more sustainable sources.”

Rather than use an ad agency, Chipotle went to Hollywood talent group Creative Artists Agency to create the spot. Ells created the script with London-based director Johnny Kelly.

At the end of the ad, the farmer and his family are shown happily cavorting with the pigs, cows, and chickens in stop-motion animation. (Although the piggies still end up as carnitas, of course.).
