Someone Created A Music Video For Beyonce's 'Drunk In Love' Using Only Emoji

Here's one video that was missing from Beyonce's visual album: the emoji version of her hit "Drunk in Love" which she and husband Jay-Z performed at this year's Grammy Awards.

The video (via Time), depicts every word of the song using emoji.

This video isn't the first of its kind. Katy Perry's "Roar" also has its own emoji version.

This "Drunk in Love" video is simple, but mesmerizing. It doesn't hurt that the song is addicting, too.

Oscar Nominee Barkhad Abdi Made Just $65,000 For His 'Captain Phillips' Role And Is Now Struggling To Get By

Barkhad Abdi Faysal Ahmed Captain Phillips pirates oscars 2014

Before "Captain Phillips" Best Supporting Actor nominee Barkhad Abdi was thumbs-upping his way down the red carpet at Sunday's Academy Awards, the 28-year-old was driving a limo in Minnesota.

Everything changed after Abdi went to an open casting call and got the role as Somali pirate "Muse" in the Oscar-nominated Tom Hanks film based on a true story.

While the film had a $55 million production budget, the first-time actor made just $65,000 for his time on the film.

To put the paycheck into perspective, the Screen Actor's Guild (SAG) minimum is $60,000 before commissions and taxes for a feature film. Abdi's fellow Best Supporting Actor nominee Jonah Hill took a similar $60,000 paycheck — but also pay cut  just to be able to work with director Martin Scorsese on "The Wolf Of Wall Street."

But now two years after Abdi's initial paycheck, New Yorker story reveals that he is struggling to support himself.

“When Abdi is in Los Angeles to promote the film, he subsists on a per diem, good at the Beverly Hilton, where the studio likes to put him up. The town car is available only for official publicity events. His clothes are loaners. Recently Abdi requested that he be allowed to stay at a commuter hotel near LAX to be closer to his friend, a Somali cabdriver from Minneapolis, who shuttles him around for free.”

While "Captain Phillips" has since raked in nearly $218 million worldwide, Abdi returned to Minneapolis after shooting and went to work for his brother's mobile phone store.

When the movie premiered, Abdi quit the job and packed his bags for Hollywood  where he now lives with his "Captain Phillips" co-star and fellow Minnesotan, Faysal Ahmed.

While Abdi says "I’m reading some scripts now," neither new actor has any future projects listed on IMDB.

11 Bizarre Things Happened When 1.1 Million People Worked Together To Beat Pokemon

$

A strange online experiment ended on Saturday when nearly 1.1 million video game players collectively beat Pokemon Red after 390 hours of game-time.

Pokemon Red was the original game in the Pokemon video-game franchise, first appearing on Gameboy in 1998. In the game, players attempt to catch and train all 150 Pokemon and defeat other Pokemon "trainers."

TwitchPlaysPokemon has been the Internet’s most persistent memes over the past three weeks, as users played a streamed version of the 1998 Gameboy game on Twitch, the popular video streaming platform.

Twitch allows people to watch each other play video games via livestream. It is quickly becoming a juggernaut, ranking fourth in U.S. Internet traffic, behind only Netflix, Google, and Apple.

To play TwitchPlaysPokemon, users input commands — up, down, left, right, a, b, and start — into the chatbox. At its peak, more than 100,000 users were inputting commands at the same time. The ensuing chaos resulted in a cult following and has spawned an entire culture of memes, language, literature, and even a religion.

And the game lives on. Twitch has officially moved on to Pokemon Crystal, the sequel to Red. You can join in on the action here.

We sifted through the aftermath to find the weirdest things that have happened so far:

1. In the beginning, the game was run by a system called Anarchy that processed every single command from the group in order. It resulted in tons of duplicate moves and allowed trolls to input commands that could derail entire battles. It was a mess.Theledgewalk

2. Users made thousands of GIFS to show the ridiculousness of what was happening.ku xlarge

3. Early on, they picked up the Helix Fossil, an item used towards the end of the game to revive an "extinct" Pokemon. Despite being useless early in the game, the item was clicked on constantly.HelixFossil

4. Because of the persistence of the item, users adopted it as a religion to get things done. Tons of memes were spawned and users routinely invoked the "Helix Fossil" as the reason to band together.  helixgod

5. The team's best Pokemon was a Pidgeot, which they dubbed Bird Jesus. Bird Jesus and the Helix Fossil formed the basis for the increasingly elaborate religious dogma.BirdJesus

6. Players went nuts when the Helix Fossil was finally revived into the extinct Pokemon Omanyte.

7. The Anarchy system finally failed when the team got stuck for hours in "The Safari Zone," a confusing part of the game map that limits the number of "steps" a character can take. safarizone

8. To solve the issue, the developer introduced a new system called Democracy. Users vote for the next move and, after 10 seconds, the move with the greatest number of votes wins. The Internet immediately revolted. Users spammed the Start9 command, which repeatedly sends the character to the Start menu, preventing any movement and crashing the system.

9. The team eventually concocted coordinated strategies using a GoogleDoc to overcome the limitations of the Anarchy/Democracy system.pokegoogledoc

10. Even so, chaos was constant. One time, they released their best Pokemon for no reason.

11. Somehow they won through sheer perseverance. pokewinThe craze was so big that Twitch has moved onto the sequel, Pokemon Crystal. You can watch them chaotically navigate the game here.

How Hollywood Mogul Brett Ratner Quietly Pocketed $40 Million From 'Gravity'

Brett Ratner

Brett Ratner is famous for directing and/or producing hit films such as the "Rush Hour" franchise, "Money Talks," "X-Men: The Last Stand," "Horrible Bosses," among many others.

And despite not being director or producer on "Gravity," Ratner will reap the rewards of the film's $707 million global box office success.

While Sandra Bullock is said to be pocketing a massive $70 million paycheck from the film in a rare deal, Ratner will rake in a reported $40 million.

According to PageSix sources, "Ratner's new production company, RatPac-Dune — with Aussie billionaire James Packer and OneWest and 'Avatar' investor Steven Mnuchin — helped finance the film and is pocketing $40 million."

In September, Ratner's RatPac-Dune closed a $450 million financing deal with Warner Bros. to fund up to 75 upcoming films.

"Gravity” was the first title covered by the new, four-year partnership.

In September, The Hollywood Reporter said of Ratner's role in the deal: "A quiet negotiation took place that resulted in Ratner not having creative input on the films, a move that Ratner fully supported. As part of the deal, the director-producer won't provide notes or be in the editing room on the titles, though his RatPac logo will grace the films."

And so far, it's paying off.

"Gravity" is on track to soon earn $750 million worldwide and the film took home seven statues at Sunday's Academy Awards.

The PlayStation 4 Is Absolutely Crushing The Xbox One

Sony's latest video game console has sold an astonishing 6 million consoles since its release in mid-November, the company said in a press release.

This makes February the third month in a row in which the Playstation 4 has dominated its competition from Microsoft and Nintendo.

In January, we noted that the PS4 had hit 4 million sales between its November 15 release date and December 28. That gave Sony a roughly 30% lead on Microsoft's Xbox One.

About a month later, Sony declared that it has nearly doubled the sales of its closest competitor but didn't release any numbers. Then, in mid-February, the company announced that it had sold 5.3 million consoles as of February 8.

Extremetech's Sebastion Anthony estimated that Sony sold approximately 500,000 more consoles than Microsoft in January, putting the count at 5.3 million PS4s sold to 3.6 million Xbox Ones.

That's even more impressive when you consider the fact that Nintendo's Wii U, which currently has more and better games than either the PS4 or Xbox One, has been out for a year longer than either console and has only sold 5.86 million units as of January

The PlayStation 4 got a significant boost in February thanks to the console's launch in its home country of Japan on the 22nd. In its press release today, Sony noted that approximately 370,000 consoles were sold in Japan between its launch and March 2.

That compares incredibly well to the roughly 330,000 units that were sold in all other global markets between February 8 and March 2, but until we know how Sony's doing on the supply side, we don't know how that reflects on demand for the console in Japan.

In the United States, it can be incredibly difficult to get ahold of a PlayStation 4 due to limited supply — it's simply sold out everywhere. We won't know until a few months from now whether the same is true in Japan, but it wouldn't be a shock to see a drop in sales in coming months, as Japan as significantly shifted towards mobile gaming in recent years.

Meanwhile, it's likely that the Xbox One won't lag behind the PlayStation 4 much longer. In less than two weeks, Microsoft will be releasing a special edition of its latest console bundled with "Titanfall" — which is expected to be one of the biggest first-person shooters this year — for the console's regular price of $499.

Here Are Our Best Guesses For Who's Behind That Fake Hover Board Commercial

$

hover board huvr flying

A video featuring Christopher Lloyd, Tony Hawk, Terrell Owens, and Moby trying out a supposedly real hover board has been making the rounds today, with the consensus that it is indeed fake.

But no one has figured out who's behind the HUVr website and video, or what they're up to.

That includes us, but we have a few good guesses.

1. It's an early promotion for a new 3D technology

We found 2011 paper about a project called heads-up virtual reality (HUVR) by a team at UC San Diego. It presents a "relatively low-cost augmented reality system that enables users to touch the virtual environment they are immersed in."

A fake commercial for a hover board would be a cool way to grab attention before an announcement that this technology is ready for the market, but it's a long shot that they could get such high-profile celebrities involved.

Update: We reached out to a member of the team, who told us they have absolutely nothing to do with the video.

2. It's Jimmy Kimmel's latest prank

The late night host has been on a prank roll lately and has the star power to get celebrities involved, so there's no reason to count him out as a possibility.

3. Funny or Die made it

CNET reports that costume designer and artist Lauren Biedenharn's resume listed "Commercial: Back to the Future HUVR BOARDS," with Funny Or Die listed as the producer. Her resume looks like it's since been edited to remove that line, though.

4. It's an early promo for a new "Back to the Future" movie

This is our bet. The hover boards used in Back to the Future Part II and Part III look just like the ones featured here. Christopher Lloyd, who starred in the movies, plays a role in this video. And he shows up in the DeLorean used in the movies to travel through time.

The HUVr website has December 2014 listed as "destination time," so maybe that's when we'll find out more.

Until then, don't expect to be floating above the ground on a futuristic skateboard any time soon. But you can enjoy the video:

One Man In The Department Of Defense Controls All Of Hollywood's Access To The Military

$

Phil Stub

If Hollywood wants to make a movie about anything having to do with the military, there is one man they have to woo first: Phil Strub, entertainment liaison at the Department of Defense since 1989.

Strub, a former Navy videographer, is now the sole person whose call it is to green light or deny a film's right to military cooperation on everything from accessing information and advisors to using the Air Force's planes or the Navy's ships.

man of steel superman henry cavillFor example, this summer's "Superman" reboot "Man of Steel" was initially denied Pentagon support because Strub found the script's portrayal of the military "cartoony," according to an article in Fortune Magazine by Soo Youn, who interviewed the elusive Strub.

As the story goes, "Warner Bros. asked Strub to reconsider, flying him to L.A. to meet screenwriter David S. Goyer, who modified his script to incorporate Strub's suggestions."

Hollywood is usually willing to play ball with Strub because his blessing means a huge break for a film's production budget.

This year's Oscar-nominated "Captain Phillips," for example, used a U.S. military guided missile destroyer, an amphibious assault ship, several helicopters, and members of SEAL Team Six, who play themselves but are not on active duty — all courtesy of the U.S. Navy, who were able to work the shoot into their training.

Fortune notes that "even in an age of special effects, it's exponentially cheaper to film on actual military ships with real military advisers."

Despite many action scenes and A-list lead Tom Hanks, "Captain Phillips" cost $55 million to make, compared to visual effects-heavy "Gravity," which had a much higher production cost of $100 million.

For "Man of Steel," using military efforts cost less than $1 million on a movie with a production budget of $225 million.

Another perk of having Strub sign off on a Hollywood project is it often means production is able to avoid Screen Actors Guild (SAG) daily minimum rates ($153 for eight hours, plus overtime) for unionized actors. Then they save again by not having to pay residuals, notes Fortune.

The upside for Strub is that "in turn, the image and message of the American armed forces gets projected before a global audience."

As Strub admitted in a 2011 video about the Pentagon censoring Hollywood, "The relationship between Hollywood and the Pentagon has been described as a mutual exploitation. We're after military portrayal, and they're after our equipment."

Phil Stub

If the Pentagon supports a script, it means they are also able to ask for changes.

"If you're willing to play ball and make the changes that they want, you get the stuff basically for free," adds David Robb, author of "Operation Hollywood: How the Pentagon Shapes and Censors the Movies."

Films are denied Pentagon support by Strub if they show the military in a negative light, such as scenes that include drug use, murder, or torture without subsequent punishment.

For those reasons, "Platoon," "Apocalypse Now," "Zero Dark Thirty," and "Argo" have all been denied support by Strub, despite opening to critical and box office success.

Not to say that filmmakers who cooperate with Strub are not successful — he has worked on scripts of movies helmed by the likes of Michael Bay, Ridley Scott, and Steven Spielberg, on hits such as the "Transformers" franchise, "007: Tomorrow Never Dies," "Iron Man," and "Lone Survivor."

Mark Wahlberg Ben Foster Lone SurvivorPeter Berg's 2013 film "Lone Survivor," starring Mark Wahlberg as real-life Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell, was shot at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico on a $40 million budget but didn't have to pay location fees because it happened to be one of the training grounds for the Air Force Special Forces unit that actually rescued Luttrell.

But as for whether the military's positive portrayal on film actually affects enrollment, Strub tells Fortune:

"You get anecdotal information, there's no statistics, no metrics, no scientific data. It's just assumed. In some cases, like 'Black Hawk Down,' it was the leadership's interest in setting the record straight and recognizing the valor and competence and bravery of the combatants, particularly those who lost their lives. It's far more in these people's minds than helping with recruiting and retention."

For Those Who Get Discouraged When They Hear The Word 'No'... Here's A Rejection Letter U2 Got From A Record Label In 1979

$

U2 Rejection Letter

It sucks to hear the word "no."

Even when you've gotten rejected thousands of times (as any successful person has), it's still discouraging.

When you hear the word "no" — when a proposal of yours gets rejected — it's easy to think that there might be something wrong with the proposal. Or worse, you.

So it's helpful to remember that everyone has heard the word "no."

Lots of investors passed on Facebook, Google, Twitter, et al, for example.

Lots of publishers sniffed at "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" (the U.K. title of the original book before one brave U.S. publisher finally bought it).

And at least one record company, it seems, rejected the early recordings of an unknown teenage Dublin band called "U2."

U2, needless to say, is one of the most successful bands in history. And the record label that said "no?" They're almost certainly toast.

So have a look at this U2 rejection letter that @uberfacts just tweeted around every time you get rejected. Use the feedback to improve your proposal or presentation, perhaps. But don't doubt yourself or stop moving forward just because you heard the word "no."

New 'Transformers: Age Of Extinction' Trailer Finally Shows Us What Michael Bay Has In Store

$

mark wahlberg transformers When we first heard there was going to be a fourth "Transformers" movie, we wondered what else they could do with Shia LeBeouf's character.

But Michael Bay decided to go a new route by bringing in Mark Wahlberg and introducing fan-favorite toys Dinobots (yes, Dinosaur-like robots that also transform) into the mix. Previously, we've seen a teaser for the film, and while we've had some ideas, we're still pretty fuzzy on what the film will actually be about.

Well, Paramount released an official trailer for its “Transformers” sequel and we finally have some answers.

Wahlberg will play a down-on-his-luck Texas dad, Cade, selling scrap metal for some extra money to put his daughter Tessa (Nicola Peltz) through college.

That changes when he stumbles upon a truck that naturally happens to be a transformer — Optimus Prime.

While we don't know the ultimate danger posed in the new film — yet (we believe we got a hint of that at last month's Toy Fair) — the trailer shows off a few Transformers in more or less the same scenes we saw in the first Super Bowl teaser.

"Transformers: Age of Extinction" is in theaters June 27.

Now that you've watched the trailer, here's what you should take away:

The US is holding a grudge against the Transformers for destroying Chicago in the last movie.

You see that number? Call it. It will lead you to a viral website telling you Transformers are dangerous. It feels similar to previous campaigns for "X-Men" movies which have told us mutants are dangerous.

Aziz Ansari Asked Reddit Users Personal Questions About Dating In The Digital Age — And The Responses Were Amazing

aziz ansari

Aziz Ansari created a subreddit called Modern Romantics on Tuesday, as research for his debut book about dating in the digital age.

The responses are equal parts heart-warming and cringe-worthy.

"You know when you text someone you're romantically interested in and you don't hear anything back and then you see them post a photo of a pizza on Instagram?" Ansari explained in a statement. "That's exactly what I want this book to deal with."

Ansari seems to have plenty of life experiences to pull from. He bemoaned the pressures of finding love at age 30 in his last comedy special "Buried Alive," which premiered on Netflix.

But he and NYU professor Eric Klinenberg, who's helping with the book, took to reddit to cull more material.

Ansari posted questions as threads, asking users to share their experiences (which he discloses may be included in the book). The subreddit has already spawned a lot of thoughtful discussion.

Ansari's untitled book — which will put a whopping $3.5 million in the "Parks and Recreation" star's pocket — hits shelves September 2015.

Here are some of the highlights of the subreddit. Sound familiar?

Ansari asked how being single in the smartphone era and in the eras before has changed, for better or worse.

fruitoftheloomis1: Pre-smartphone/pager there was a forced patience with waiting for a call back, or a response to a date request. Going a couple days before hearing back wasn't odd. Then pagers came into play and you wanted a response a little more quickly. Now it seems that everything has to be instant or it "means something". Blah.

azizansariAMA: You didn't feel a similar paranoia if someone didn't return a phone call or page in a timely manner? Is this paranoia something you've felt only with text messages?

alexisyque: I don't think this is limited to text messages, it may be amplified through text, but it's possible to feel that way when you don't get likes/favorites/comments on your instagram/twitter/facebook posts. It's almost becoming "required" to like or respond to whatever your partner puts out into the digital world.

Users said that a single text or message by their significant other or potential partner can shatter hopes of dating further. And emojis got no love.

bmollenkamp: My friend set me up with a guy and his very first text to me included an emoji. We are both in our 30s. And he's a man. ICK. I went on the date anyway and -- I was right. Worst date ever. Never date a guy who uses emojis.

azizansariAMA: What was the emoji???

When romances do bloom online or through social media, people aren't particularly proud to tell the how-we-met story.

RubberRob: I met my soul mate on twitter. We followed each other and interacted a lot (she used to go to my school) and eventually decided to meet. I would always hope she would favorite my tweet or notice it. Now I don't have to wait for that, as I actually have her in my real life. I think it's interesting how we met, but I never tell people the real story. It doesn't sound as cool or "real" and commonly makes our love less believable to others (not that their opinions really matter).

azizansariAMA: What's your decoy story?

RubberRob: That we both happened to be at the coffee shop and remembered each other from school. Works pretty well and makes us look cool for both going to this rad coffee shop.

But not all was lost. Delightful stories of technology in dating surfaced, too.

Ram_Skull: I briefly met my current girlfriend in person and she then added me on Facebook. We really started talking because of it. We have now been dating for close to 3 years. To be honest I would not have just walked up and asked for her number, but I felt comfortable starting a conversation with her through Facebook. So I would say social media played a major part as to why we are together today.

azizansariAMA: THIS is the kind of story that gets lost too often in these discussions. The notion that tends to get most play is that all this technology is keeping us less present and ultimately more disconnected and flakey - while I think this is valid and true to a large extent - in the book we don't want to forget this stuff. Social media gave you a tool to overcome your shyness and meet someone. Cool.

Tip of the hat to reddit user jaggazz, who posted a link to this subreddit on /r/PandR.

Lena Dunham Is Writing A 4-Part 'Archie' Comic About Reality TV

LEna DunhamLena Dunham is a huge fan of the "Archie" comic series.

So much so, in fact, that the "Girls" creator will be writing her ownfour-party "Archie" series to be published in 2015.

The story will follow Archie and his pals when they run into a new reality show filming in Riverdale, naturally.

“I was an avid Archie collector as a child — conventions, first editions that l kept in plastic sleeves, the whole shebang,” Dunham said in a press release. “It has so much cultural significance but also so much personal significance, and to get to play with these beloved characters is a wild creative opportunity.”

The fairly random partnership comes as a result of Archie comics recently making efforts to update their image.

Lena Dunham for Archie Comics

MTV notes that the comics' modernization "began with the introduction of their first gay character a few years ago, and even marrying Archie to long-time beaus Veronica and Betty, in dual 'alternate reality' comics."

Archie Comics also recently hired "Glee" writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa as Chief Creative Officer of the company, who helped seal the Dunham deal.

“When we found out Lena was a fan, the first thing I did was call Roberto,” Archie Comics Publisher and CEO Jon Goldwater said. “It’s been a magical confluence of events, and it further cemented why Roberto is the ideal person for the CCO role, and why this is the next logical step in Archie’s evolution as a real pop culture company – a place where the strongest, most unique voices can come and contribute to Archie’s world.

Jilted Ex-Warner Bros. Head Raising Hundreds Of Millions For New Production Company

Jeff Robinov Jennifer Garner Anne Hathaway Jessica Biel

As President of Warner Bros. PicturesJeff Robinov oversaw hit movies such as “Gravity,” “Argo” and billion dollar franchises like "Batman," "The Hangover, and “Harry Potter.”

He won the studio the Best Picture Oscar for "Argo" from Ben Affleck, a filmmaker he brought to Warner Bros. along with Christopher Nolan, Leonardo DiCaprio, Baz Luhrmann, Todd Phillips, Zack Snyder, and many others. He has even been called "The man who saved Warner Bros."

So it was a surprise to many when Robinov, 55, left Warners this summer  after 15 years at the studio and at the height of his success  after the exec felt he was passed over for the studio's CEO position, which went to his former friend, Kevin Tsujihara. Some called it a "calamitous exit."

Since his departure, Robinov has been working on "raising several hundred million dollars in financing for a company that will finance and produce movies for Sony," several individuals with knowledge of his plans tell The Wrap.

Robinov has reportedly been in talks with the Huayi Brothers, a leading Chinese film production company, and industrialist billionaire Len Blavatnik.

Clearly, this is no small fundraise. As The Wrap reports:

The former Warners Bros. film chief is looking to raise around $300 million in equity, according to knowledgeable individuals: One put the sum at $350 million in equity, but others say the figure will end up closer to $300 million. He is raising a similar sum in debt, meaning that he should have more than half a billion at his disposal.

Not only would it be a good deal for Robinov, but also for partner Sony, as the studio has been looking for co-financiers to mitigate the risk of making expensive movies.

As Variety explains, "Amid an increasingly strained economic climate in which production and marketing costs continue to rise, studios are reducing the number of films they bankroll on their own. Partnering up with a self-funded production company such as Robinov’s helps mitigate some of that risk."

turn AMCNow that “Breaking Bad” is over and “Mad Men” is ending after its upcoming seventh season, AMC is looking for its next big drama.

Sure, the cable network still has ratings winner “The Walking Dead” — the midseason premiere drew in more viewers in the 18-49 demo than the Olympics— but other than zombies and admen AMC needs some fresh meat.

Enter "TURN." Set during the Revolutionary War, the thriller from "Nikita" executive producer Craig Silverstein follows the nation's first spy group, the Culper Ring.

During the the show's appearance at the Television Critics Association (TCA) in January, Silverstein said one of the reasons behind doing a show about the Revolutionary War is because its been covered so little in Hollywood.

"There are tons [set during] World War II and the Civil War. But really five or six things you can count set in the Revolutionary War. My theory is they never seemed a true story. It’s really only taught… my memory is in sixth grade, and we’re done. It’s a very black and white, red vs. blue… we learn that and move on. The truth is much more complicated."

The 10-episode first season is set to premiere April 6 — a week ahead of the "Mad Men" return.

We have your first look at exclusive new photos from the series and what you need to know about AMC's next potential hit.

What's "Turn" about?

turn culper ringThe series will follow a Long Island farmer who forms a spy ring with friends to aid Continental Army leader George Washington during the Revolutionary War.

From AMC:

“TURN” centers around Abraham Woodhull, a farmer living behind enemy lines in British-occupied Long Island. Abraham bands together with a group of childhood friends to form The Culper Ring: an unlikely team of secret agents who help George Washington turn the tide of the war in favor of the Rebels.

Is this based on a true story?

Yes. The series is based on the book “Washington’s Spies” from historian Alexander Rose which details how Washington used the Culper Ring to find out where the British would strike next.

Who stars in the show?

Jamie Bell plays the lead, farmer Abraham Woodhull who forms the spy ring.

We're excited to see Bell since he's set to star in the "Fantastic Four" reboot. Previously, you've seen Bell in "Billy Elliot," "Jumper," and Peter Jackson's "King Kong" remake in 2005.

Mad Men

The Olympics and Oscars are over.

Now, a handful of new and returning TV shows are competing for your attention.

If you're wondering what to watch, we've looked over both the new and returning midseason series'.

From comedies to dark, gritty thrillers and returning favorites, here's what is worth your time.

15. "Review" (Comedy Central)

Premieres: Thursday, March 6th at 10 p.m.

What it's about: Andy Daly ("Eastbound & Down") stars as critic Forrest MacNeil, who is out to review life itself from hot button topics like racism to sleeping with a celebrity.

Why you should watch: The half-hour comedy (co-created by Daly) not only looks hilarious with its mock-u-mentary feel and absent-minded host, but could also be a great satire of life's absurdities.

Watch the trailer

14. "About A Boy" (NBC)

Air date: Tuesday at 9 p.m.

What it's about: Based on the Nick Hornby book, "About A Boy" tells the story of Will Freeman (David Walton), a single guy without a care in the world. That is until a single mom (Minnie Driver) and her young son (Benjamin Stockham) move in next door possibly forcing Will into adulthood (or possibly even further back into childhood).

Why you should watch: The sitcom has a wonderful cast (you may remember Walton as Dr. Sam from his stint on Fox's "New Girl"), is from executive producer Jason Katims ("Parenthood," "Friday Night Lights"), and if the series is anything like the book it's bound to have as much heart as it does laughs.

Watch the trailer

13. "Hannibal" (NBC)

Air date: Friday at 10 p.m.

Where we left off: Things aren't going well for criminal profiler Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) who is locked away for crimes committed by psychiatrist Hannibal Lector (Mads Mikkelsen). The only problem? No one knows Lector's the one behind a bunch of grisly murders. The ones who do get close enough to the truth don't live long enough to bring Hannibal to justice.

Why you should watch: The Internet goes absolutely crazy for Mikkelsen and Dancy, and it's not difficult to see why. The chemistry between the two is fantastic, and the two are friends off screen as well. We have to mention the team who is running the show's social media — and Tumblr. They do a phenomenal job of knowing their audience and making them hunger for more.

If you're not convinced, "Hannibal" has also been called "the best drama on network TV."

Cameron Diaz Looks Ridiculous In The First 'Annie' Remake Trailer

annie remake

There's going to be an "Annie" remake this year.

The movie isn't out until December, but Sony Pictures has already debuted the first trailer for the film starring Jamie Foxx, Cameron Diaz, and Quvenzhané Wallis.

You'll remember Wallis as the adorable actress from "Beasts of the Southern Wild" who became the youngest Oscar nominee last year. She's probably the brightest part of this trailer.

The film is a modern-day hip-hop update to the story of the orphan darling in Harlem produced by Jay-Z and Will Smith.

Foxx will take on the role of Daddy Warbucks, re-envisioned as wealthy politician Will Sacks.

It's a hard knock life for Diaz who looks downright silly as a ditzy version of Miss Hannigan role which Sandra Bullock reportedly passed up. Her character has a few awkward ramblings about George Clooney and Facebook that everyone from the kids to Foxx's Will Sacks appear confused over.

Originally, Smith’s daughter Willow was cast in the picture, but she outgrew the role by the time production started rolling.

Bet your bottom dollar Sony Pictures needs this to be a big win.

"Annie" is in theaters December 19.

I Have A Wild Theory About True Detective That's Probably Wrong, But Still Super Creepy And Fun

true detective matthew mcconaughey woody harrelsonAlert: This post contains spoilers for anyone who isn't totally caught up on True Detective.

This Sunday, HBO's True Detective series will wrap up it first season.

Those of us who have become addicted to the show will finally learn the identity of the serial killer detectives Marty Hart (Woody Harrelson) and Rust Cohle (Matthew McConaughey) have been chasing for the better part two decades.

With one episode remaining it seems pretty obvious that our bad guy is the lawn-mower-riding spaghetti-faced creep we met at the end of the last episode.

All kinds of witnesses — including that one little girl victim Rust and Marty found at the meth cook's place — have been talking about a man with scars who acts like a real monster.

But maybe we're in for a big surprise.

I have at least partially convinced myself — and, over IMs, BI colleague Steve Kovach — that Marty Hart, played by Woody Harrelson, may be involved with the ugly organization behind all the child abductions and grisly murders.

Here is the evidence:

  • In an early episode, the camera catches Marty's daughters playing with toy figures in their bedroom. Most the figures are arranged in a circle. At their center, two figures are joined in a sexual position. It looks like a Yellow King crime scene. Maybe Marty's kids were just acting out what they read in the papers or saw on TV. Or maybe, like too many children in the show, they've been witness to some sort of bizarre sex ritual that Marty is involved in.

  • Marty's oldest daughter also gets in trouble at school for drawing bizarre sexual images.

  • Later, Marty's oldest daugther turns goth. She hates her father. How come? Was she his victim?

  • It seemed like Marty shot the meth cook before he could talk because he was so angry about child victims he found. But maybe he shot the meth cook before he could talk (and before he ever saw Marty) to keep him from talking.

  • Marty's multiple affairs indicates he has a hard time controlling sexual impulses. The way the first one ends also shows he sometimes mixes up sex and violence.

  • When Rust restarts the investigation in 2002, Marty pretty much does all he can to shut it down.

  • Marty makes sure his gun is loaded when he follows Rust to his storage unit. We're led to believe that's because he suspects Rust. But maybe it's because he suspects Rust suspects him.

There are some problems with this theory, of course.

The main one is that Marty seems like good guy with some serious flaws. He doesn't seem like a child-raping serial killer, or like he's someone who would work with people who are.

The truth is, I'm probably getting caught up in a bunch of false clues — "red herrings."

That's OK. Really good mysteries have really compelling red herrings.

It just goes to show you how great of a show HBO has going — the kind that creates buzz, and gets people to subscribe forever. No wonder the brand profited $1.8 billion in 2013.

Update: The more I think about…the more I think that actually the bad guy is Marty's father-in-law. Why else is he in the show? Anyway, here I go again…

'Game Of Thrones' Fans Upset After Needing NYU Code To Buy Premiere Tickets

daenerys game of thrones

Wednesday, super fans of "Game of Thrones" were in for a treat. HBO announced it will hold a screening of the season 4 premiere for 7,000 people at the Barclays Center in NYC March 20.

That's more than two weeks ahead of the premiere on April 6.

Tickets went on sale for $15 this morning at 10 a.m. on Ticketmaster and quickly sold out.

The sale didn't go without a hitch.

Ticket purchaser Kristina Alvarez tells us many of those who headed to the Ticketmaster site were frustrated that the only tickets being offered online at 10 a.m. were to New York University students. Those without a code couldn't access the site right away.

"The only ticket option was 'NYU students,'" Alvarez told us. "Then I looked on the 'Game of Thrones' Facebook page and that's what everyone was also saying."

Alvarez noticed the page quickly deleted all of the comments after the tickets sold out in a few minutes.

Here's a screengrab sent our way of the page by Alvarez:

Here's how it looked after the posts were deleted:

Alvarez tells us she used the Ticketmaster app on her phone instead where she had better luck at purchasing tickets before they sold out.

When "The Epic Fan Experience" announcement was made Wednesday, it wasn't clear that tickets online would be available first to NYU students.
