Netflix is getting a new design next month — here's what it looks like (NFLX)

Netflix is getting a new design for its streaming website that makes the browsing experience a lot more enjoyable. It's expected to launch sometime in June.

For starters, Netflix is getting rid of its carousel browsing, dropping the slow-moving side scrolling in favor for a click-based browsing system that speeds up the experience and makes it a lot less frustrating to explore.

If you've forgotten what that carousel-style browsing looks like, here's a reminder.

Netflix GIF

Currently, clicking on a Netflix title causes the episode to immediately start loading while it displays some summary information. And, if you wanted to explore the title further or select a specific episode you needed to hover your mouse over the title without clicking — which was usually hit or miss.

With the new design, clicking on a title won't immediately cause your movie or TV show to start playing — instead you'll be given the option to read about the show.

If you click the arrow, the title will expand to let you explore other episodes in the series, read a plot overview, check out related titles, and view information on the cast.

Netflix new design

Netflix has begun rolling out the new interface to a small number of subscribers already, but if you're not one of the lucky few you'll only have to wait a few more weeks. Netflix confirmed to Business Insider that it's "targeting mid-June" for the launch of the new design.

Uber is now mainstream enough that it's used as a punchline in the new Entourage movie

Entourage Golden Globes adrien grenier

Entourage, the new movie continuing the story from HBO's canceled TV series about a movie star, his best friends, and their adventures in Hollywood, doesn't come out until June 3rd.

But I saw an early screening here in San Francisco last night (it's good, go see it), and there's one really amazing joke about Uber that shows just how deeply the controversial car-sharing service has embedded itself in our collective consciousness.

WARNING: Minor spoilers for the Entourage movie below. You've been warned!

In the movie, Turtle (played by Jerry Farara) manages to go on a date with real-life MMA fighter Ronda Rousey, which he ruins by talking too much about business.

"I'm going to call you an Uber," she says, before pausing to sneer to a deflated Turtle: "Actually, I'm going to call you an UberX."

It might be helpful for those of you who've never used Uber (or who live outside its fast-expanding empire) to know that it has two main options: Plain old Uber, the black car service, and UberX, which is a much cheaper variant where you're more likely to be picked up in a Prius.

And so, Rousey was saying that Turtle wasn't even worth the expense.

The put-down got hearty laughs and a few disbelieving hoots from the audience.

We talked to Uber, and it's not a paid product placement.

So there you have it: Uber, like Google before it, is now mainstream enough that big Hollywood movies feel comfortable using it as a punchline.

FX is hoping for another hit from "American Horror Story" co-creator Ryan Murphy with its upcoming true crime anthology series, "American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson."

Based on Jeffrey Toobin's book "The Run of His Life: The People V. O.J. Simpson," the limited series will take a look at the O.J. Simpson trial told from the perspective of the lawyers.

It will explore the chaotic behind-the-scenes dealings and maneuvering on both sides of the court, and how the LAPD’s history with the city’s African-American community affected the trial.

For the past several months, casting on the series have kept people buzzing as many still remember watching the case that went down in the mid-90s and feel they know the players well.

With production underway in Los Angeles, FX has just released the first photos of the cast. Business Insider took the extra step of showing them side-by-side with the real people they'll be playing.

Cuba Gooding Jr. ("Jerry Maguire," "Empire") as O.J. Simpson:

Billy Magnussen (“Into the Woods”) as Kato Kaelin:

Before you see the 'Poltergeist' reboot, watch the terrifying trailer from the 1982 original

Before you see the remake of "Poltergeist" that comes out this weekend, check out the spooky trailer for the 1982 thriller on which the new one is based.

The original "Poltergeist" is somewhat controversial due to confusion over producer/writer Steven Spielberg's actual role in the production. In his book "The Films of Steven Spielberg," author Douglas Brode wrote that Spielberg actually performed more of a directorial role than the film's credited director Tobe Hooper ("The Texas Chainsaw Massacre"). Brode says that Spielberg's contract with Universal — the studio that released Spielberg's "E.T." that same year — stipulated that Spielberg could only be credited with directing one movie in 1982.

Therefore Spielberg doesn't get a director credit, but he is said to have been perceived as the man in charge on the set of "Poltergeist."

Spielberg's name isn't attached to the 2015 remake, which is produced by horror-master Sam Raimi ("Evil Dead 2"). The new "Poltergeist" is directed by Gil Kenan, who also directed the 2006 animated movie "Monster House," which was executive produced by Steven Spielberg.

Walt Disney's original plan for the place George Clooney's 'Tomorrowland' is based on was a creepy futuristic dystopia

walt disney

Disney's next big film, "Tomorrowland," starring George Clooney is in theaters Friday.

If you've seen the trailers, it's kind of difficult to decipher what the film is all about.

A young girl (Britt Robertson) is transported to a mysterious, futuristic world called Tomorrowland, at the touch of a magic pin.

In actuality, the film, named after the futuristic section of the Disneyland theme park, was inspired by Walt Disney's original vision for Epcot.

Check out Disney's original plan for Disney World and Epcot >

After Disneyland was built in California, Walt had an idea for another Disney project in Florida; however, he passed away in December 1966 before he could see it come to fruition. Before he died, he filmed a video two months earlier expressing these plans in detail. Bits and pieces of it can be seen in trailers and features promoting "Tomorrowland."

Disney produced the nearly half-hour video, found on YouTube, for Florida Legislators to get permission and rights for his project. In it, Disney laid out his big ideas for his massive Florida project.

epcot projectCalled "Project X," Walt's Florida expansion wasn't about Disney World, though it was a small part of the picture.

Rather, Disney's plan consisted of building his own perfect Utopian city: the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow—Epcot.

While Disney's film brings this vision to life a la Tomorrowland — a place full of hopes and dreams — Disney's original video for Epcot sounded like a scene straight out of Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World," which envisioned a similar world back in 1932.

Located partly in Orange and Osceola Counties, Disney picked the center of the state for his Florida project on purpose, reasoning it would be easy for tourists and residents to arrive by car.

The land was located between Orlando and Kissimmee, a few miles from the crossing point of Interstate 4 and the Sunshine State Parkway (this was before I95 was finished).

The theme park and all the other tourist facilities—hotels, motels and recreational activities—were meant to fill one small part of Disney's Florida project. This part alone is five times the size of California's Disneyland.

Why the costumes in 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' will be much different than in the original trilogy

star wars episode VII teaser trailer stormtroopers

In order to get the look right for "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens," costume designer Michael Kaplan had to throw out all the designs he was working with from the original trilogy.

Kaplan, who previously worked on "Blade Runner," "Fight Club," and J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek," didn't think anything from the original "Star Wars" trilogy could apply to a new film.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Kaplan says that a lot of the old costumes, such as the stormtrooper uniforms, would not be usable anymore.

"Audiences of today have become so sophisticated that a lot of things you could get away with in the past, you can’t anymore." Kaplan told Vanity Fair. "So the new uniforms are much heavier."

Much of the action in the film is different than it was in the original and because of that, the new costumes had to be designed to accommodate that.

sean young blade runner"The action in the film required them to not be 'VacuFormed' [like the old uniforms] as those all broke and cracked. These new ones are much more heavy-duty, but they are redesigned, too, they’re not the same stormtroopers." Kaplan added.

star wars chrome stormtrooper episode vii

While director J.J. Abrams wanted to hold on to the "uniqueness" of the stormtroopers, he also realized that it would be odd to "have the same stormtroopers this much later when Leia and Han are so much older."

"The Force Awakens" will take place 30 years after the events of "Return of the Jedi," which came out in 1983.

Instead of drastically changing the way the stormtroopers look, they decided to make their outfits a little simpler. Or, as Kaplan puts it, he thought: "what would Apple do?"

Like with a lot of new Apple products, Abrams wanted the stormtroopers to still look the same "at a glance" but also "different enough to kind of wow people and get them excited about the new design."

There were some other looks that Kaplan wanted to alter as well. He recalls being confused by the look of the warring factions.

"...The uniform colors kind of overlapped—both [the rebels and the Empire] had some khakis and olive, and I kind of thought, Now I’m in a position to do something about this." Kaplan said.

To remedy this problem, he gave The Empire "very cold blacks and grays and metallics and teal blues." Meanwhile, The Rebels are given a warmer look of "khakis and olives and some oranges."

Even the looks of classic characters such as Leia, Luke, and Han, who will return for "The Force Awakens," weren't completely sacred. However, Kaplan realizes that there is a line he must walk between preserving what the characters always were, and making necessary changes.

chewbacca harrison ford the force awakens"A lot of it had to do with what was right for the story and the action, but a lot of it was also, you know, people have a way of dressing." Kaplain said. "I wouldn’t really be doing my job if I thought, Hey, let’s redesign this character totally and put them in colors they’ve never worn. It just wouldn’t make any sense. But you also want new, interesting things to look at. You want enough change to be there."

You'll have to wait until the end of the year to see the new looks. "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" will be in theaters December 18, 2015.

Bill Murray Christmas

Bill Murray may be more myth than man at this point.

He has been known to crash random events, such as bachelor parties. Dozens of stories have been shared online, and many of them sound almost too good to be true.

Now, Murray will be getting his own Netflix Christmas special, simply titled "A Very Murray Christmas."

"A Very Murray Christmas" reunites the actor with Sofia Coppola, who last directed him in "Lost in Translation," which earned Murray the first Oscar nomination of his career.

This first teaser doesn't show much. All that can be seen is Murray, wearing a pair of reindeer antlers, staring gloomily out a window at a vast cityscape.

It has a very similar look and feel to "Lost in Translation" and the film's many memorable shots of Tokyo.

The special sells itself on Murray alone, despite the fact it will apparently include appearances from the likes of George Clooney, Miley Cyrus, Amy Poehler, and Maya Rudolph as well.

"A Very Bill Murray Christmas" will be released on Netflix this December. Check out the teaser below:

top new tv shows on social media

CBS's "Supergirl" is the most-talked about new show of the upcoming season on social media, but Fox has the most shows in the Top 10 than any other broadcast network.

That's what we learned when Business Insider partnered with Prime Visibility, a digital marketing agency with the tools to measure social media mentions, to figure out which shows people are talking about most on Twitter and Facebook over the past seven days.

It's no surprise that shows based on previous franchises took the Top 4 spots. "Supergirl" was followed by The CW's "Arrow"-"Flash" spinoff "DC's Legends of Tomorrow," ABC's revival of "The Muppets," and the return of Fox's "The X-Files."

Interestingly, ABC is getting a lot of social media chatter around its upcoming FBI drama "Quantico." It's the highest-ranked original series in fifth place.

NBC may be on to something, too, with its upcoming variety show revival, "Best Time Ever With Neil Patrick Harris." It placed No. 6.

Although Fox had more shows in the Top 10 than any other network, "Supergirl" still beats their combined total of social mentions.

Here are the Top 10 shows on social media, according to Prime Visibility:

1.) "Supergirl" (CBS) — 33,270

2.)"DC's Legends of Tomorrow" (The CW) — 18,754

3.)"The Muppets" (ABC) — 9,207

4.) "The X-Files" (Fox) — 8,431

5.)"Quantico" (ABC) — 7,666

6.)"Best Time Ever With Neil Patrick Harris" (NBC) — 7,641

7.)"Limitless" (CBS) — 5,693

8.)"Scream Queens" (Fox) — 5,568

9.)"Rosewood" (Fox) — 4,417

10.)"Lucifer" (Fox) — 4,230

Some of the heroes of the Marvel universe have a lot of blood on their hands.

A recently-released infographic put together by the folks over at the UK-based Morph Costumes ranks a number of Marvel characters by their body counts. It features characters both heroic and villainous, as well-known as Iron Man and obscure as Vulcan.

While some of the characters on the list are no surprise, there are a few listed that you wouldn't expect—and since some of their most notable victims are mentioned, mild spoiler warning if you plan on diving into Marvel comics in the near future.

Either way, try not to feel too bad about all the people these characters killed. In the superhero comics, dead people usually get better.

How the abysmal 'Game of War' featuring Kate Upton makes so much money

$
0
0

kate upton bathtub game of warIt's not hard to tell from the ubiquitous ads for "Game of War: Fire Age," featuring a scantily clad Kate Upton, that it is one of the worst variety of mobile games. If you had any doubt, just read Matt Johnston's walkthrough about how painful it is to gather resources endlessly just to unlock ways to gather more resources without ever engaging in anything close to war.

Despite being painful to play, however, this crappy game is incredibly profitable — as of this writing, it is the number two top grossing app on the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.

Why are players putting money into "Game of War?" Because the entire game is built around digging hooks into players, getting them invested in its infinite loops and convoluted systems, and then charging money for the ability to stay invested. If you really want to compete, you'll pay in.

That sentiment is echoed in comments on the piece Matt wrote. "Without spending $$$ , building and researching can take months," wrote commenter JoeBroady.

I've been playing the game every day for three weeks now; this is the case with every system in the game. For example:

"Game of War: Fire Age"

See all those "speed up" buttons next to the blue arrows? Those enable you to speed up the time to complete a given task in the game. In order to speed up tasks, you must use a one-time use item in the game. When you run out of those items – and you will run out of them quickly – your option is to buy more.

That system is consistent across the board.

Want to train up troops faster or research faster or attack a nearby monster faster? You can! All you have to do is cough up some cash. Your cash converts to in-game "Gold," which enables you to buy speed-ups or to skip the waiting time you'd normally have to endure to build / upgrade your home base.

After the game loads, the very first screen you'll always see is a "BUY GOLD" advertisement (the in-game currency that costs real world money). They come in a variety of flavors, from the mundane to the holiday-themed:

"Game of War: Fire Age" advertisements

Garish as this may be, it's the basest level of pushing "Game of War" does for your money. It's the game's many, many systems for "questing" and base building – combined with the online multiplayer aspect – that make "Game of War" such a moneymaker.

The long and short is this: if you want to compete, you have to buy in. As one commenter put it:

The difference between the big spenders and everyone else is huge. Not just 2, 3 or even 10 times more powerful, but a hundred or two hundred times more powerful. This makes it boring and pointless for everyone except the "whales."

And this is how "Game of War" makes so much money. Like other free-to-play successes before it, such as "FarmVille" and "Evony," there is a hard ceiling on your ability to compete unless you dish out real money, and lots of it. You've gotta be a "whale."

The "whales" referenced above are a group commonly associated with free-to-play games. These are the folks spending large amounts of money in order to significantly advance their game. These are the "Rich Kids of Instagram" of gaming, the oil magnates who don't mind dropping a few thousand dollars to fuel their addiction. These are the people who fund the development and maintenance of free games like "Game of War," and they represent 1-3% of players.

Free-to-play? Maybe. But certainly not free to win.

'Mad Men's' meticulous creator chose the soundtrack before he even wrote it — and it made a huge impact on the show

$

Matthew Weiner Jon HammOne word that could best describe "Mad Men" creator Matthew Weiner is "obsessive."

Throughout the entire run of "Mad Men," he made sure to get all the period details right and went as far as to model a kitchen after the year 1957 instead of 1960 in order to ensure continuity.

Outside of the sets, costumes, and cigarettes one of the most memorable features on all of "Mad Men" is the music. Weiner handpicked many of the songs used throughout the series by hand.

The most surprising part, though, is that he was planning the show's soundtrack years before he even knew what "Mad Men" would become.

A plaque displayed at the "Mad Men" exhibit at the Museum of the Moving Image reads: “I chose most of the non-scored music on the series. I was open to suggestions and in many key moments they have worked well for the show."

"But I have a very personal relationship with music and am a delusional person to the degree that before the show existed, I kept a file in my iTunes of all the songs that could go one day in the show. Over seven years I used most of them–in fact many stories were actually constructed to serve specific songs.” Weiner added.

At the exhibit, you can hear some of Weiner's explanations for why he chose certain songs to accompany certain episodes.

Here are excerpts of recordings from the Museum of the Moving Image in which Weiner discusses some of the many highlights from the "Mad Men" soundtrack:

"A Beautiful Mine" (RJD2), Opening Credits Song

Mad Men Opening Credits

Inspiration can strike anywhere at any time. Weiner first heard "A Beautiful Mine" on the radio and thought it perfectly matched the now famous falling man in the show's opening credits.

"The theme song, 'A Beautiful Mine,' was something I heard on NPR...on 'Marketplace' as transitional music right as we were making the title sequence, and I loved that it had this sort of falling sound to it." Weiner said.

"Don't Think Twice, It's All Right" (Bob Dylan), "The Wheel" (season 1, episode 13)

Mad Men Don Draper

"Mad Men" season finales usually contained some of the show's best musical moments.

Weiner felt that the end of season one, in which Don chooses work over family, was the best time to play a Bob Dylan tune.

"At the time, I didn't know if there was gonna be another season of the show," Weiner said, "And it was important for me to not only use Bob Dylan, because I love the idea of the central premise of the show that someone like Don, who lived in that world and dressed like that and had that job was going to be listening to this music...I also just love the words to this song because it's a moment of Don in deep regret about losing his family..."

"The Infanta" (The Decemberists), "Maidenform" (season 2, episode 6)

Mad Men Don Betty Jon Hamm January Jones

Matthew Weiner is very particular about the show's historical accuracy, and will go as far as getting rid of a dish if it isn't from the time period. The same usually applies for music, but every once in a while, he'll bend the rules for a tune that's not from the time period.

"...It's a very original sounding song with a great beat and incredible lyrics and what I loved about it is that it is a regal entrance of a princess and about her being adorned and about her being carried on elephants...and the rhythm of it was just this presentation of royalty and I liked it because it was an introduction of our female characters getting ready for the day with their underwear which was the story of the show about how you are seen by other people, and this presentation of woman as queen when they are basically sort of being judged in the most surface way through the rest of the episode." Weiner explained.

"Shahdoroba" (Roy Orbison), "Shut the Door. Have a Seat." (season 3, episode 13)

Mad Men Don Draper

Mad Men

This song played during a transitional moment at the end of season three. As Don and Betty's marriage comes to end, Don moves out on his own and starts a new agency.

"['Shahdoroba'] is a song that I've always wanted to use in the show and I had a list on my iPod of music that could be for the show even before the show existed," Weiner said, "And the thing about 'Shahdoroba' is, besides the fact that its talking about a time that's gone by, it emotionally captures this longing and adventure, it has this almost Egyptian sound to it that suggested a world that had disappeared."

"Stranger on the Shore" (Acker Bilk), "Meditations in an Emergency" (season 2, episode 13); "Favors" (season 6, episode 11)

Mad Men Betty Draper

A rarity for the show, Weiner actually used this song in two different episodes. He used this tune not just because it worked well with the scenes, but because it plays with our perception of the time period.

Mad Men Don Draper

While the likes of The Rolling Stones, The Who, and The Beatles are linked most to the 1960s, they are not necessarily what was playing on the radio.

"I wanted a piece of music that I thought would be being played because it was a hit at that time and that wouldn't distract from the mood," Weiner said, "It was also important to me that in the midst of this musical revolution that's going on as rock n roll is becoming more and more prominent, that there are two soundtracks going on. There are two parts of the culture that are competing, and this song is a throwback to a simpler time."

In 1962, when this episode takes place, "Stranger on the Shore" was Billboard's number one song of the year.

"You Only Live Twice" (Nancy Sinatra), "The Phantom" (season 5, episode 13)

Mad Men Don Draper Jon Hamm

"'You Only Live Twice,' by Nancy Sinatra, is from a James Bond film and was something that I had on my iPod because I had a collection of music that would go for this imaginary TV show that I had that I was always collecting." Weiner said. "And to me, it thematically summed up the story of someone who had two different lives and because this show was about this secret identity, and the words are very poetic..."

Things changed since Weiner first began planning for his theoretical TV series, and the song almost ended up in another part of the series.

Megan Draper acting Mad Men

"...for a time I was thinking about using it as the theme song for the show, or certainly for the ending of the first episode, but then I really wanted to tie it to the period. And by the time we got to season five, where it's featured heavily in the ending of the entire season, we really built that [final] sequence around this song." Weiner said.

You can hear Weiner's thoughts on many more of the songs from the series at the "Mad Men" exhibit at the Museum of the Moving Image. The exhibit runs through June 14.

Mike Huckabee stands by Duggar family despite molestation scandal

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) declared his support on Friday for the Duggar family, after revelations the eldest son of the reality television clan was investigated for inappropriately fondling young girls in 2002 and 2003.

Josh Duggar, the oldest of the family made famous by their TLC reality show "19 Kids & Counting," confirmed on Thursday he had acted "inexcusably" in the face of a report from In Touch Weekly revealing he was investigated by police in Springdale, Arkansas in 2006 for allegations he forcibly fondled five minors.

The parents of the Duggar family, Jim Bob and Michelle, endorsed Huckabee's 2016 presidential run earlier this month. On Friday, Huckabee penned a Facebook posting in response to the scandal.

"Josh’s actions when he was an underage teen are as he described them himself, 'inexcusable,' but that doesn’t mean 'unforgivable,'" Huckabee said.

Duggar, now 27, married with three children and the Executive Director of the conservative political group Family Research Council Action, said on Thursday that "as a young teenager, I acted inexcusably for which I am extremely sorry and deeply regret."

He subsequently resigned from his post at FRC Action.

Duggar's parents, Jim Bob and Michelle, also released a statement in light of the claims.

"When Josh was a young teenager, he made some very bad mistakes, and we were shocked. We had tried to teach him right from wrong. That dark and difficult time caused us to seek God like never before," they said.

In his note about the scandal, Huckabee called on critics to withhold judgement from the religious family.

"Those who have enjoyed revealing this long ago sins in order to discredit the Duggar family have actually revealed their own insensitive bloodthirst, for there was no consideration of the fact that the victims wanted this to be left in the past and ultimately a judge had the information on file destroyed—not to protect Josh, but the innocent victims. Janet and I love Jim Bob and Michelle and their entire family," he added.

Huckabee added that while others may flee from standing with the Arkansas family, he and his wife Janet want "to show up and stand up for our friends."

Read Mike Huckabee's full statement on Facebook about the Duggar family:

"Janet and I want to affirm our support for the Duggar family. Josh’s actions when he was an underage teen are as he described them himself, 'inexcusable,' but that doesn’t mean 'unforgivable.' He and his family dealt with it and were honest and open about it with the victims and the authorities. No purpose whatsoever is served by those who are now trying to discredit Josh or his family by sensationalizing the story. Good people make mistakes and do regrettable and even disgusting things. The reason that the law protects disclosure of many actions on the part of a minor is that the society has traditionally understood something that today’s blood-thirsty media does not understand—that being a minor means that one's judgement is not mature. No one needs to defend Josh’s actions as a teenager, but the fact that he confessed his sins to those he harmed, sought help, and has gone forward to live a responsible and circumspect life as an adult is testament to his family’s authenticity and humility. Those who have enjoyed revealing this long ago sins in order to discredit the Duggar family have actually revealed their own insensitive bloodthirst, for there was no consideration of the fact that the victims wanted this to be left in the past and ultimately a judge had the information on file destroyed—not to protect Josh, but the innocent victims. Janet and I love Jim Bob and Michelle and their entire family. They are no more perfect a family than any family, but their Christian witness is not marred in our eyes because following Christ is not a declaration of our perfection, but of HIS perfection. It is precisely because we are all sinners that we need His grace and His forgiveness. We have been blessed to receive God’s love and we would do no less than to extend our love and support for our friends. In fact, it is such times as this, when real friends show up and stand up. Today, Janet and I want to show up and stand up for our friends. Let others run from them. We will run to them with our support."

Why the iconic Walt Disney Pictures logo was changed for ‘Tomorrowland’

The Walt Disney Pictures' logo is one of the most iconic symbols in the world.

Synonymous with most of our childhoods, the silhouette of Sleeping Beauty’s castle has shown up before all Disney media properties since its 1985 animated feature “The Black Cauldron” (before then, a “Walt Disney Productions Presents” title card would appear).

But audiences who go to see Disney’s latest movie, “Tomorrowland,” will be greeted with a surprise.

In a rarity for the Mouse House, the iconic Disney logo was replaced by the skyline of the futuristic Tomorrowland.

The movie, which is an adaptation of the Disney park theme land of the same name, stars George Clooney and Britt Robertson (“The Longest Ride”) as imaginative dreamers who have visited the fantasy land and are determined to return.

tomorrowland4The Tomorrowland skyline can be seen in numerous shots in the movie, but according to the co-visual effects supervisor on the film, Eddie Pasquarello, the movie’s director, Brad Bird, wanted the audience to get the feel of the world immediately.

“Brad wanted to take you into the thing right away,” he told Business Insider. “[Changing the opening logo] actually came up in the middle of production. I remember Brad wanted to do it and we talked about how other films did it. I would argue none has been done this elaborate.”

Pasquarello could be right.

Numerous films have done unique tweaks to the Disney logo over the decades. Here are a few examples:

"Inspector Gadget" (1999)

In the end credits of "Wreck-It-Ralph" (2012) the logo gets taken over by video game code.

2010’s "TRON: Legacy" replaced the castle with "The Grid," where the programs reside in the film.

Illegally leaked 'Supergirl' pilot is expected to reach 250,000 downloads in 24 hours

supergirl flying CBS

The pilot episode for CBS's "Supergirl" has gone up, up and away on the internet.

It leaked online late Thursday night and has already been downloaded more than 150,000 times.

As downloads aren't going as fast as expected, a realistic estimate is that it'll reach a quarter of a million downloads by Saturday morning, according to TorrentFreak.com.

Two torrent sites led the charge. LOL and DiMENSiON released the download originally, but the availability of the files is expected to increase as other torrent sites get their hands on them and media spreads the word about the leak.

LOL is apparently offering a smaller size download file while DiMENSiON's file is more than 15 times the size of LOL's and a quality that should work for HD viewing.

Apparently, the leaked video doesn't show the signs of being a screener, such as on-screen warning messages about sharing the screener, messages about who owns it, etc.

The leak arrives just a couple weeks after CBS officially announced it's going forward with the series and six months ahead of its November premiere date.

A CBS representative declined to comment for this article.

sansa and ramsayOnline piracy of TV and movies have plagued the industry for years. And as people have increasingly moved away from using cable and satellite TV services, it has become a popular way for cord-cutters to watch their favorite shows.

In 2014, HBO's "Game of Thrones" had the dubious honor of being the most-pirated TV show with about 48.4 million downloads that year.

As a result, many TV networks are exploring options that give cord-cutters a legal avenue to watch their programming. With "Game of Thrones" piracy as it is, it's no surprise that HBO has been a leader in the movement to offer its own standalone subscription streaming service. HBO Now launched in April.

And by the way, CBS has also launched its own streaming service called CBS All Access. Full seasons of CBS's already aired programming are available on the service. So, "Supergirl" is only available right now via illegal downloads.

FX Kurt Sutter Bastard Executioner series order 2

"Sons of Anarchy" creator Kurt Sutter is back in business at FX.

The cable channel announced on Friday that it has ordered 10 episodes of Sutter's drama, "The Bastard Executioner." Production will resume in Wales this summer with a fall premiere date set.

The series takes place in the late-Middle Ages and follows a warrior knight in King Edward I’s charge who is broken by the ravages of war and vows to lay down his sword. But when that violence finds him again, he is forced to return to battle.

“I love history. I love theology. I love blood," Sutter said in a statement. "It's been very satisfying weaving fact and fiction to create a new mythology that combines all these elements. And with this extraordinary cast -- Stephen Moyer, Katey Sagal and newcomer, Lee Jones -- this world explodes on screen. I love working with FX and [Fox 21 Television Studios]. They've been my family for 15 years. They not only tolerate me, they embrace my extremely disturbing storytelling sensibilities.”

sons of anarchy season 6Sutter will also appear on the new series alongside series regulars Flora Spencer-Longhurst, Sam Spruell, Darren Evans, Danny Sapani, Timothy V. Murphy, Sarah White, Sarah Sweeney, Elen Rhys, Ethan Griffiths and guest star Matthew Rhys.

Produced by Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions, "The Bastard Executioner" was created by Sutter who will be joined by Brian Grazer, Francie Calfo and Paris Barclay as the show's executive producers.

It isn't difficult to see why FX would be in a hurry to be back in business with Sutter after "Sons of Anarchy" ended its run last December. The gritty drama's final season was its most-watched and highest-rated, averaging 11.7 million total viewers and 7.5 million in the advertiser-coveted demographic of Adults, aged 18-49 years old.

Wet Hot American Summer Elizabeth Banks Paul RuddWhen "Wet Hot American Summer" was first released in 2001, it was a critically pannedbox office flop, grossing just $295.2 million during its entire theatrical run.

Fourteen years later, it is a cult classic that has launched many careers and is now getting its own TV series on Netflix entitled "Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp."

While the movie was set on the last day of camp during the summer of 1981, the show will be set on the first day of camp during that same summer.

Despite the fact that it has been known for a while that most of the original cast would be back, nobody had any idea exactly what they would look like.

Some of the big names include Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Amy Poehler, Christopher Meloni, Bradley Cooper, Molly Shannon, Janeane Garofalo, and David Hyde Pierce. David Wain returns as director.

Well, luckily, Netflix released the first stills of the show today.
