Kirk Cameron Tells Piers Morgan That Homosexuality Is 'Destructive' To Society

Kirk Cameron

Former "Growing Pains" teen heartthrob Kirk Cameron had a lot to say about gay marriage on "Piers Morgan Tonight."

Friday night, the actor and evangelist sat down with Piers Morgan and talked about his views on homosexuality amidst talk of the upcoming election.

Cameron was very clear that he felt homosexuality was not only sinful but "unnatural" and "ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization."

But those types of comments don't go without backlash for long.

On Saturday, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (or GLAAD) issued a statement saying Cameron was "out of step" with the many Americans and that the actor sounded "even more dated than his 1980s TV character."

Celebrities and the Twitterverse also spoke out against the anti-gay remarks.

"Late Late Show" host Craig Ferguson said, "Rush makes me ashamed to be a middleaged white man and Kirk Cameron makes me ashamed to be a failed actor" and "Will and Grace" star Debra Messing tweeted about Piers Morgan "I want to thank Piers Morgan for his response to what he wud say to HIS child if (s)he came out: "Great, as long as you're happy."

After the interview, Morgan spoke with TMZ about the firestorm against the actor. The CNN host said he  thought Cameron was "brave" for saying what he believed in- even though it seemed in the interview that Morgan didn't agree with the comments.

Check out Cameron's remarks below.

Here's What Happens When JWoww Wants To Join Your Gym

This is Jenni "JWoww" Farley's handwritten note to the management of a Jersey City gym she just joined (see below). Punctuation is not her strong point, apparently.

The Jersey Shore gang have received a mixed reception in Jersey City, the shooting location for their new season, with some bars refusing to allow Snooki, The Situation et al. permission to film on their premises. But Jenni "JWoww" Farley isn't letting that get in the way of her gym-tan-laundry routine.

She recently showed up at Synergy, a gym on Newark Avenue, only to find no one at reception. So she left this note on the desk and began her workout regardless. (Our spies at Synergy tell us she likes to work out on weekday mornings.)

Synergy is an interesting choice for Jwoww: It's the least glamorous gym in the neighborhood. Brick Haus is nearer to her Mercer Street digs, and it's less crowded. Club H is further away but that's where all the cool kids go. Could price have been the deciding factor? Synergy is the cheapest of the three to join.

Here's the note:

lorax thumb

Call it marketing genius to plan the release of a Dr. Seuss film around the anniversary of the author's widely publicized birthday this past weekend.

Whether it was the casting of Taylor Swift coupled with Zac Efron, the Betty White cameo or the successful marketing campaign, the film about a tiny woodland creature, "The Lorax," did huge at the box office this weekend—becoming the second-best animated film debut that wasn't a sequel. (The first was "The Simpsons Movie.")

Other than that, it was still a solid box office weekend with the third-largest weekend of the year.

Nic Cage's "Ghost Rider" manages to ride out the week in the top ten, Jennifer Aniston's box-office bomb "Wanderlust" dropped out along with Amanda Seyfried's less-than-thrilling "Gone."

And, one film finally makes its first appearance into the top ten after a 15-week run in theaters.

(via BoxOfficeMojo)

10. After winning best picture at the Oscars, "The Artist" made its first top ten appearance this weekend. With a spike in ticket sales for the past fortnight, the film saw a 34 percent rise in box office intake raking in $3.9 million this weekend.

9. Nicolas Cage's "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance" stays alive despite dropping three spots this week earning $4.7 million at the box office.

8. Reese Witherspoons' romantic comedy "This Means War" moves down one spot this weekend earning $5.6 million.

ALLSTATE'S LIMBAUGH NIGHTMARE: Facebook Post On 'Women's History Month' Wrongly Linked To 'Slut' Scandal

rush limbaugh facebook

A simple Facebook post about Women's History Month turned into a nightmare for AllState today as the company was wrongly linked to Rush Limbaugh.

AllState was forced to deny it advertised on Rush Limbaugh's show after it was included in a list of sponsors on ToppleBush.com.

  • UPDATE: AllState just told us that its ad agency had made a mistake, and some ads did air on Limbaugh's show, but the company has had a policy from the get-go to not be in that media.

Without a definitive list of Limbaugh's advertisers, ToppleBush became the go-to place for current advertiser brand names. Its list appears to be wrong, however. (We made the same mistake, too.)

Advertisers have been rushing for the exits after Limbaugh called a Georgetown University student a "slut" because she supported health insurance coverage for contraception.

The problem is that before AllState could get its denial out, the angry masses showed up on the company's Facebook page. There they found this unfortunate Wall post:

(Scroll down.)

Allstate

The post triggered dozens of angry responses from people who wrongly believed AllState was a Limbaugh advertiser and didn't see the contradiction in financially supporting a man who calls women sluts. Here's one:

Shiori Fiedler What is the significance of Women's History month to Allstate, when your still advertising on Rush Limbaugh's program? Do you not consider this hypocritical?

We asked ToppleBush for comment. We'll update this post when we get a response.

Smith makes his triumphant return with yet another "Men in Black" film. This time in May.

In this venture, Smith's Agent J finds out that his grumpy old partner Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) has been erased from the present. Now, J must travel back in time to the 1960s to team up with a younger K (Josh Brolin) to find out secrets that even the universe does not know.

Smith does his best Danny Glover a la "Lethal Weapon" impression ("I'm getting to old for this...") while Brolin pulls off an awesome Tommy Lee Jones voice.

Rush Limbaugh Says He's 'Fine' With His Advertisers Dropping Like Flies

Rush Limbaugh

Rush Limbaugh opened his show Monday by addressing the exodus of radio advertisers after he called a Georgetown University law student a "slut" and "prostitute" on his show, and he seemed almost completely unfazed by their loss.

Less than an hour after AOL officially became the eighth company to pull its ads from Limbaugh's radio show, the conservative host cracked a joke:

I was watching the media on Saturday, and I said, "You know what? I gotta call myself and cancel and suspend the Two If By Tea advertising."  [Two If By Tea is Limbaugh's tea company.] So I called myself to cancel the advertising. I got a busy signal so I couldn't cancel my own company's advertising.  So Two If By Tea remains a sponsor of the Rush Limbaugh program and the Excellence in Broadcasting Network.

Limbaugh continued his broadcast in typical, pontificating fashion, stating:

The left, folks -- the media -- are giddy that some advertisers have said they're leaving the program. And I'm sorry to see 'em go. They have profited handsomely from you.

While the conservative host said that the advertisers' disaffiliation was a "shame," at the end of the day he just doesn't care.

"Those advertisers who no longer want your business, fine," Limbaugh continued. "We'll replace them. It's simple, really. "

To hammer in the us vs. them/money-is-no object point, Limbaugh explained that he already rejects millions of dollars of advertising a year: specifically calling out General Motors after the company had accepted government bailouts.

"This show is about you," he said, "not advertisers."

Past talk show hosts haven't weathered the storm of sponsor abandonment.

  • Glenn Beck's Fox News Channel show was cancelled when he lost most of his advertisers after he called the president a racist.
  • London's News of the World tabloid was shuttered after it became public that its reporters had hacked the voicemail of a murdered schoolgirl.
  • Bill Maher was kicked off ABC after Sears, FedEx, and Roebuck & Co. pulled advertising after the "Politically Correct" host made insensitive remarks about 9/11 just six days after the attack. (Maher was quickly moved to HBO).
  • Motel6 and General Motors' OnStar pulled sponsorship from Dr. Laura Schlesinger's radio show after she used a racial epithet when speaking with a black woman on the air. The radio host moved to Sirius XM radio as soon as her contract was up.
  • NBC and CBS suspended Don Imus' broadcast six days after he called Rutgers University's female basketball players "nappy-headed hos." GM, Sprint Nextel Corp., and American Express (to name a few) had all pulled their sponsorship from his show.

It is unclear whether Limbaugh's advertisers have fully abandoned Limbaugh's show, however, or if they have merely stepped back temporarily until the storm has passed.

Ad Age uses Lowe's disaffiliation with "American Muslim" as an example of advertisers temporarily going to the sidelines:

When Lowe's announced late last year that it was withdrawing its ad dollars from TLC's "American Muslim," it might have seemed like a death knell for the show -- except for one thing. Lowe's didn't withdraw its ad dollars from TLC, or any of the other cable outlets owned by Discovery Communications.

Still, based on Limbaugh's "who needs 'em" rant, it doesn't seem like he'd take any of his old sponsors back.

Kim KardashianKim Kardashian and Kris Humphries earned a reported $17.9 million for their August wedding in Montecito, which was later televised in a two-part special called "Kim's Fairytale Wedding" on E! Entertainment.

But just 72 days later, on October 31, the fairytale was over and the estranged couple were left with $100,000 in wedding gifts.

And now, four months later, Kardashian is finally doing something about all of the wedding swag she received for her big day.

TMZ obtained this note Kardashian sent to wedding guests who had given the TV star gifts.

“I would like to thank you for your generous and thoughtful wedding gift.  It has taken me some time to pull everything together but I wanted to let you know that the money for every gift received by me at my wedding has been donated to the Dream Foundation.”

But that's not all, Kardashian doubled the $100,000 amount TMZ says she received in gifts and just donated $200,000 to The Dream Foundation, an organization that "enhances the quality of life for individuals and their families who are battling life-threatening illness."

One day a hefty donation to charity, the next a Twitpic in her bra—that's one way to get people to forget about the drama-filled, short-lived marriage that unfolded on national television.

Tom Cruise To Fly The New F-35 Joint Strike Fighter In 'Top Gun 2'

$

Hollywood is going back to "Top Gun" school with its upcoming sequel to the 1986 film, but hotshot pilot Maverick won't be flying any killer robot drones. Instead, Tom Cruise is set to return in the starring role as a test pilot for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter — a plane that could well be the last manned fighter aircraft made in the West.

The news slipped from the lips of the Lockheed Martin's F-35 program manager during a National Aeronautics Association luncheon last week, according to FlightGlobal's military aviation blog The DEW Line. If that plot decision shapes the final "Top Gun 2" film, the choice to feature a manned aircraft stands out in a time when U.S. military drone pilots can see far more action in a week than most fighter pilots see in months.

While Tom Cruise may jump into the seat of an F-35, entire squadrons of real U.S. military fighter pilots have already switched over from manned aircraft to remote-controlled drones such as the Predator or Reaper. Many of the best test pilots from the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School now graduate having extensive flight time with drones.

lockheed martin f-35 lightning fighter jetThe F-35C flew its first external weapons test mission at Edwards Air Force Base, Calif. on Feb. 16, 2012.  View full size image.

Maverick's own U.S. Navy has begun testing the sleek, futuristic X-47B drone that could take off from aircraft carriers as soon as 2013. That drone could end up flying alongside manned fighter jets such as the F-18 Super Hornet — the F-14 Tomcats flown by Maverick and Iceman in the original "Top Gun" retired from operational service in 2006.

The "Top Gun 2" choice of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter may also prove controversial based on the aircraft's own merits — both outside experts and government reports have cited years of delays and technical issues leading to an estimated lifetime cost of $1 trillion. When Foreign Policy recently asked 76 defense experts to list three programs that they would cut immediately from the U.S. defense budget, the most popular No. 1 choice was the F-35.

"We have had only one fighter jet shot down by an enemy fighter jet in the last 40 years," said one expert interviewed by Foreign Policy. "We simply don't need to spend over a trillion on a new fighter at this point."

Even military supporters who insist that the F-35 JSF is a necessary sixth-generation aircraft for the U.S. Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps admit that it may prove the last manned fighter aircraft for the U.S. and its allies. They include past Pentagon leaders such as Mike Mullen, a retired U.S. Navy admiral and the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

"There are those that see JSF as the last manned fighter — or fighter-bomber, or jet," Mullen said during a Senate Armed Service Committee testimony in 2009. "I'm one that's inclined to believe that."

"Top Gun 2" could still end up taking moviegoers on a wild cinematic ride when it comes out, and perhaps even showcase the challenges faced by human pilots in the era of robotic drones. But if the film merely echoes the original "Top Gun" parade of aerial combat and fighter jock culture, it risks losing itself in a Hollywood fantasy far removed from the futuristic reality of modern warfare.

But the Bieber decided that wasn't enough and has splurged on a $10.8 million Los Angeles mansion for himself, according to Zillow.

Jeffrey and Rochelle Mills of Mills Studio designed this house, which doesn't look like the other Mediterranean mansions in the area. This modern beauty is made of glass and steel boxes that appear to float about the pool.

There's 9,400 square feet of living space and five bedrooms in the home.

Justin's new home is nestled away in the Hollywood Hills.

We love the walkway up to the house.

He'd move in right away, but rumor has it Ashton Kutcher is currently renting the place for $50,000 a month.

These Board Games Are Being Made Into Hollywood Blockbusters

ouija-board-game-hasbro

There's a time and place for Ouija board games (marketing device inside "Paranormal Activity 3" and sleepovers of thirteen-year-old girls seem appropriate), but on the big screen seems a bit far-fetched.

Less than four days after revealing their new logo in front of Dr. Seuss' "The Lorax," Universal Pictures is once again signed on to bring the Ouija board film back to life, according to The Hollywood Reporter

The studio originally dropped the film back in August 2011 due to a budget over $100 million. (To put that into perspective, "Titanic" cost $200 million to make.)

The film is slated for a 2013 release and is being produced by Hasbro's Brian Goldner and Bennett Schneir along with Platinum Dunes' Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form. The only new addition comes from Jason Blum, the "Paranormal Activity" producer.

Now it's all coming together—Blum was able to make a blockbuster on a $15,000 budget. There's no word on this film's budget, but we're betting it's been chopped significantly.

Despite all this, we're still not sold on the appeal of a board game film, but if they could make a movie out of "Battleship"—no doubt using the high-status appeal of Rihanna and Brooklyn Decker—then we suppose anything's possible.

However, Ouija isn't the most unheard of board-game-to-film currently in the works.

We've compiled a list of games being produced into feature-length films in the near future that would probably be better left in the box.

Monopoly

People are actually excited about director Ridley Scott's adaptation of the popular real estate trading game to the big screen.

Scott bought on Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, the duo who wrote Stephen King's 1408 adaptation featuring Samuel L. Jackson

In an interview with Screenrant, the "Alien" and "Gladiator" director Scott suggested the film would be…funny.

“Completely. It’s a blood bath. It was really bad behavior. It’s [going to be] a comedy.”

There's no current date set for the film; only a projected 2014 release

Candy Land

From "Bedtime Stories" to bedtime games.

Adam Sandler is in talks to star and have his Happy Madison Production film company produce a movie based on the popular kid's board game.

As long as he doesn't play Lord Licorice, we're cool.

Release Date: 2013

Production Studio: Sony

Battleship

Channing Tatum, Alexander Skarsgård, Rihanna, Brooklyn Decker and Liam Neeson all headline this summer blockbuster about the Hasbro game.

However, we predict no amount of star power can save this ludicrous plot line that appears to merger "Independence Day" aliens with "Transformers" robots.

Release Date: May 18, 2012

Tagline: "The Battle for Earth Begins at Sea"

Studio: Universal Pictures

Estimated budget: $200 million

Barenaked Ladies Are Reviving 'Animal House'—On Broadway

Animal-House-Broadway-Musical

We've seen strippers, vampires, Mormons and more on the Broadway stage.

Now it's time for some frat guys in togas.

On the 30th anniversary of comedian John Belushi's death, Universal Pictures Stage Productions has announced that the 1978 comedy classic will be turned into a Broadway musical.

While the opening date, venue and cast have not yet been announced, there are still some exciting players in the making of this Broadway venture.

Casey Nicholaw, the critically acclaimed and Tony-winning director of South Park's "Book of Mormon" musical will helm the show as well as choreograph it, which we can only hope means the physical humor of "Animal House" will be retained as much as humanly possible.

Even more intriguing are the minds behind the music. Canadian alternative rockers The Barenaked Ladies are tackling the songs in the show. If they can come up with a 60s or 70s version of "One Week" the spirit of stereotypical frat boy will be captured.

And according to NBC's "Community," everyone loves The Barenaked Ladies—so the show should be a hit.

We just hope they incorporate some of this humor:

OOPS: Disney's First Black Princess Sells Watermelon Candy

black watermelon jezebel

Disney allowed its first black princess character to shill watermelon-flavored candy.

Their Disney Princess Dig 'n Dips Valentine card packets (think Fun Dip) shows a fair-skinned Sleeping Beauty smiling on the vanilla side and Princess Tiana peddling watermelon.

The watermelon trope has historically been used to identify African Americans in a pejorative way. According to David Pilgrim, curator of the Jim Crow Museum, "These images on postcards, sheet music, ashtrays, and souvenirs are visual expressions of the stereotype of Blacks as ignorant, mindless buffoons. Why worry about persistent patterns of institutional racism and racial economic and health disparities when you can just eat a watermelon?"

Disney has an unfortunate history with racial stereotypes, from the "Red Man" Indian chief in Peter Pan, to the Siamese cats in The Aristocats, to Disney's evolving portrayal of black characters as crows (Dumbo) to a monkey (The Jungle Book). The company has all but disowned 1946's The Song of the South due to its racist content.

When Disney first began working on The Princess and the Frog in 2009, critics scrutinized the company's production choices to make sure that it didn't perpetuate racially charged stereotypes. (Princess Tiana was the subject of unsourced internet rumors that she had been originally conceived as a chambermaid named Maddy, before her change of name and occupation, to a chef, according to The New York Times.)

It could be that the Dig 'n Dips packaging was pure coincidence. In Disney's "Fairies Dig-n-Dips Candy Packs" a Caucasian fairy sells the watermelon candy while the one black fairy sells the exotic "Tropical Fruit" flavor.
