NFL Player Asks Madonna For A Kiss During An Interview, Gets Rejected

Madonna Gerald McCoy

Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive lineman Gerald McCoy got an opportunity to ask Madonna a question during her press conference but seemed more interested in getting a kiss from the aging pop star. But this week's Super Bowl halftime act wasn't having it (via TBO.com)...

McCoy, working as a reporter for OCNN – Chad Ochocinco's network – showed a lack of fear that would impress Bucs fans during the music legend's Super Bowl news conference Thursday in Indianapolis...The back-and-forth began when a bold McCoy, sitting among hundreds of media members, told Madonna, "I'm only 23, but I love you"...She jokingly replied, "I have love for 23-year-olds," but begged, "Please don't ask a stupid question"...McCoy then popped the big one: "So I'm assuming no kiss after this?"...Shaking her head, Madonna replied, "No."

Oh man, there is so much to love about this: 1) "Like A Virgin" was released in 1984, and McCoy wasn't born until 1988; and 2) the Ochocinco News Network is a real thing. Who knew?

Kodak's Bankruptcy Leaves Oscar Theater Searching For A New Sponsor

kodak theatre

Kodak’s bankruptcy has left studios out millions and the landlord for the Oscar theater in the market for a new sponsor.

Since the Academy Awards moved to the Kodak Theater at Hollywood & Highland a decade ago, the 131-year-old company’s name has been synonymous with the Academy Awards.

That could soon change. On Wednesday, the 131-year company asked a U.S. bankruptcy court judge to allow it to get out of its $75 million naming rights deal with the real estate company behind the complex.

If Kodak gets approval to withdraw its sponsorship, CIM Group, the developer of the mall, is free to seek another corporate sponsor. But the motion picture academy's board of governors can veto the choice.

Tom Sherak, the Academy’s president, stressed that making the deal for a new sponsor is up to CIM.

“Let's say they brought in Dell, we probably wouldn't disapprove that," Sherak told TheWrap. "We don't approve, but if it was something that didn't work, we'd disapprove.”

Kodak says that given its recent financial headaches, it can no longer justify the more than  $4 million it pays in fees for those naming rights.

“Kodak is proud of its important role in the Entertainment industry, and our long standing relationship with film makers,” Christopher Veronda, a spokesman for Kodak, said in a statement to TheWrap. “Our motion today reflects our commitment to ensure that we are maximizing value for our entertainment customers, creditors and other stakeholders.”

Also read: Academy Exercises Kodak Theater Escape Clause

The filing states that Kodak pays a significant annual amount for, among other things, the naming rights related to the Kodak. “The Debtors have evaluated the Contract in consultation with their professional advisors and determined that any benefit related to these rights likely does not exceed or equal the Debtors’ costs associated with the Contract,” it states.

The Academy's Board of Governors is weighing a move to a new venue, but if it does not, it can nix potential sponsors.

Also read: The Oscars Have a Sloppy, Silly Week

In December, the Academy exercised an option in its 20-year deal with the owner of the Kodak that allows it to consider other venues before deciding whether to recommit to the Kodak for the final 10 years of its contract. If it does not find another location, it can always stay at the the theater.

Regardless of what happens with the Oscars, if other corporate christenings are any indication, CIM might even be able to make more money on the naming rights.

For example, Citigroup paid $400 million over 20 years in 2009 to have its name emblazoned above the Mets Stadium in Queens, N.Y. Likewise, Staples shelled out $116 million over the same time frame for rights to the arena where the NBA's Lakers and Clippers play in Los Angeles.

Not that finding a replacement for Kodak will necessarily be easy.

CIM has been trying for years to sell the naming rights to the entire Hollywood & Highland complex and has yet to find a buyer. The company did find half a dozen potential sponsors in 2010, but is still continuing to search, according to a report in the Los Angeles Business Journal.

As for Kodak, its Chapter 11 filing has left a number of major entertainment companies with tens of millions of dollars in unpaid bills.

Indeed, the list of Kodak’s unsecured creditors reads like a who’s who of media and technology giants. Kodak owes $16.7 million to Sony, $14.2 million to Warner Bros., $9.3 million to NBC Universal, $6.8 million to Paramount, $4.2 million to Disney, $3 million to Amazon and $12 million to Nokia, according to bankruptcy filings.

Steve Pond and Pamela Chelin contributed to this report.

Why TV Chef Gordon Ramsay Paid His Father-In-Law $3 Million To Go Away

$

Gordon Ramsay

Gordon Ramsay, the British chef best-known for his TV series "Kitchen Nightmares," has called a reported $3 million truce with his father-in-law and former business partner, Chris Hutcheson, after he allegedly hacked into Ramsay's email account to swindle more than $2 million from the chef's business accounts.

Hutcheson used the money to finance a longstanding affair with a woman who is not Ramsay's mother-in-law. Ramsay's wife, Tana, who sided with her husband, has since severed ties with her father after finding out he kept a secret second family for over 30 years.

The drama has led to the dissolution of the family business. Hutcheson had a 30 percent stake in Gordon Ramsay Holdings.

While Ramsay is reportedly paying Hutcheson an estimated $3 million in order to end all civil litigation between the two, an exact settlement amount is not being disclosed.

A rep for Ramsay told the Daily Mail:

"Gordon Ramsay and Gordon Ramsay Holdings have reached a settlement with Chris Hutcheson and other members of the Hutcheson family.

The terms of the settlement are confidential but we can confirm that Chris Hutcheson is no longer a director or shareholder of Gordon Ramsay Holdings and all civil litigation and employment tribunal claims brought by each of the two parties and other family members have been withdrawn."

The feud blew up in 2010, when the chef fired his father-in-law, and then sued him, after a private investigator found he had been swindling money to support an extravagant double life with his mistress.

Hutcheson denied the accusations and responded with a libel suit, which prompted Ramsay to publish an explosive open letter to his mother-in-law in the London Standard, explaining the family's personal drama to the world.

A source revealed to the Mail, "Gordon has spent a fortune to get to this point—not just on lawyers but accountants and computer experts. He wanted to sever every tie with his father-in-law, but of course it's meant Tana has had to pay a very heavy price."

'American Idol' May Have A Secret Ratings Weapon—President Obama

Barack Obama Flag

Would you watch President Barack Obama sing again on television? "American Idol" bets you will.

Producer Nigel Lythgoe says he was so impressed with the president's rendition of Al Green's "Let's Stay Together" that he suggested the two perform a duet on the "Idol" stage.

Lythgoe extended his invitation on Twitter:

"@BarackObama we loved your vocal performance so much we'd love to invite you on to #AmericanIdol this Season for a duet with Al Green."

Although Lythogoe may be smitten with Obama's singing chops—as was the rest of the country—this may prove another plug to drive ratings.

"Idol" ratings have taken a dive this season, seeing its all-time lowest numbers in the past few weeks with a 17 percent drop in total viewership.

This is no surprise given the popularity of copycat shows "The Voice" and "The X Factor" as well as a series of hosts joining and leaving the cast (Ellen DeGeneres, Simon Cowell, Jennifer Lopez).

Despite the show gaining celebrity buzz by having Jim Carrey's daughter on board or premiering Madonna's new music video for "Give Me All Your Luvin'"—which she'll be performing for the first time during the Super Bowlnone of these efforts have helped much in the ratings.

Last night's episode gained a rating of 5.9 down 9 percent from last week's 6.5. This marks a 34 percent dip from one year ago when the show averaged a 9 (18-49) rating with 25 million viewers.

So far, Obama's viral video has garnered 4.9 million clicks—plenty of eyeballs Fox would love to gain.

Obama's party has yet to respond back to Lythgoe's suggestion.

If all else fails, he could always reach out to Mitt Romney.

Here's What Porn Stars Say About A New Law Forcing Them To Use Condoms

$

0

Porn Set

On January 17, the Los Angeles City Council approved a city ordinance that requires actors to wear condoms while they are working on adult movie sets.

While some call it protection, like, say, a hard hat for a construction worker, others in the 'biz say it's simply an annoyance.

“It’s more of a nuisance than anything else,” Steve Hirsch, founder and co-chairman of Vivid Entertainment, the company responsible for releasing sex tapes from the likes of Kim Kardashian, told Forbes.com.

But luckily for the porn industry, and big wigs like Hirsch, most of these film sets are in the San Fernando Valley—just out of LA county limits, which means they are unaffected by the recent ordinance.

"Ultimately, if the law is extended to make shooting porn in Los Angeles too difficult," Hirsch explained to the mag, “We’ll look for other areas that are more welcoming. And we’ll take the thousands of jobs we create along with us. If we leave the state, those dollars and the tax dollars will go along with us.”

Forbes contributor Susannah Breslin spoke with 12 "porn stars, sex writers and smut peddlers" to hear what they had to say about the new law and its impact on the billion dollar porn industry.

Stoya, Porn Star:

"Personally, outside of a long-term monogamous relationship where both partners have been tested, I’ve generally used condoms in my personal life. However, sex at home usually involves 7-15 minutes of penetration, whereas the penetrative sex part of a performance for an adult production usually requires 45-60 minutes to capture the necessary shots and angles. That extra half an hour or more can turn a mild irritation from the condom into a very painful experience, and cause abrasions that actually make transmission of an STI more likely in the event of condom failure.

Also; It’s my body. I decide what goes in and on it."

Stoya

Via "Porn And Condoms: How Will The New Law Impact The Industry?"

James Deen, Male Porn Star:

"I appreciate that people are trying to look out for my health and safety however, there is a lot of misinformation in that LA Times article.  Industry standards require performers to be tested a minimum of once a month and condoms are also an additional option on many sets.  I have been in the adult industry for 8 years and still have yet to contract any stds and the idea of someone accusing my industry of needing further regulation is very insulting."

James Deen

Via "Porn And Condoms: How Will The New Law Impact The Industry?"

Satine Phoenix, Retired Porn Star And Current Artist:

"It’s about time they passed this law....

When you are in porn you know that it is very likely that you will end up getting Chlamydia or Gonorrhea (I was lucky enough to not have gotten any STDs). Sure you can get rid of it with a pill and move on with your life but the lasting effects and the psychological effects are lasting. Condoms give you piece of mind. Its just safe sex. I always wore condoms outside of porn. Condoms in porn is a GOOD thing!"

Charlie Sheen Selma Blair

In his new comedy series for FX, Charlie Sheen plays a divorced, former baseball player with anger issues who winds up as an unconventional anger management therapist.

And now, Selma Blair has just been cast as Sheen's female lead as his therapist-slash-love interest. Shawnee Smith, most well known for her work in the "Saw" franchise, will play his ex-wife.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Blair's character, Kate, is described as "beautiful, if a bit neurotic. As his former team psychologist, she helped Sheen’s Charlie control his anger. Now, she is both his friend and his therapist with benefits."

In interviews at NATPE last week, Sheen raved about the possibility of working with Blair, who was one of two finalists for the role.

Production on the show is set to begin in mid-march and according to Deadline.com, could get an order of 90 episodes if the initial 10-episode run hits the ratings target.

While Blair's last TV endeavor on NBC's "Kath & Kim" alongside Molly Shannon ended after only one season, it sounds like the unpredictable actor and the funny new mom could make for a "winning" combination.

As long as Sheen stays off the tiger blood.

Portlandia's Kyle Maclachlan On Why He Went Into The Wine Business

$

0

kyle maclachlan

This article originally appeared at American Express OpenForum

Chances are you know Kyle Maclachlan more for his acting roles in such cult classics as “Twin Peaks,” “Blue Velvet,” “Sex and the City,” and now, “Portlandia.” But for oenophiles who look for niche boutique wines from emerging regions, Maclachlan’s small yet growing wine business called Pursued by Bear is attracting garnering some legitimate respect and attention.

Based in Walla Walla, Washington, within the Yakima Valley where Maclachlan grew up, the last few years of his great grape endeavor has allowed him to spend time back home with family, and truly cultivate his love for a nice bottle of wine.

I chatted with Maclachlan about his business and some of the lessons he’s learned when evolving what started out as a hobby into a more serious and potentially profitable small business.

There are other celebrities making wine, but not many are as serious about it as you...

I’m very hands-on with this business. I’m originally from Yakima and I spend a lot of time with Eric Dunham and the winemakers up there at their winery (Dunham Cellars). What we’re making is something I feel I have really contributed to the process with. I chose the barrels, for example. These were ones I was recommended by Napa Valley friends of mine. They are hard to find barrels, so that was a real contribution I was happy to make. It helped my wine and it helped the winery too.

How have you used your celebrity to help Pursued by Bear?

My celebrity has helped tremendously with promoting the wine. I have opportunities other winemakers don’t. My celebrity has helped open doors for sure, but to keep them open I need to have a good product and I need to be consistent in my contact with my buyers. Selling wine is a people business and fortunately, I like talking to people. I am also helping Washington wines have a face. I am very conscious of talking about Washington State and it’s wine country.

Beyond having a personal connection to Washington State, what do you find so attractive about Washington State for wine?

A lot of it was about family. I got to go home and spend time with my Dad before he passed away. While he was alive, I was able to include my Dad in the journey I was taking making wine. He loved it. Besides family, the largest factor was the cost of the grapes. It is much more expensive in Napa. I also really like Eric Dunham and his family. In fact, the entire winemaking team up in Walla Walla is great.

I also always like to support the underdog and in many ways, Washington is the underdog at the moment in the wine world. That will change as more people experience the quality and lower price point for really great wine being produced in Washington State. The state of Washington is so vast and I am really enjoying drawing from it. Here the wine is never flabby and it’s a real pleasure in the mouth. Drew Bledsoe (former NFL quarterback) has has a wonderful winemaker working with him is wine here too for Doubleback, which is exceptional.

This started out as a hobby for you but it seems to have really evolved into so much more.

This is tricky. I'm able to do this because I don't depend on the income from this project to live on. It's still a hobby. But this isn’t just a dilettante thing for me. I’m actively involved with expanding the business now. I’m looking at wine sources and other vineyards.

What do you know about making wine?

While I have been paying attention to all of this for years with Eric and Jeff as an observer, I also don’t pretend to know the chemistry. I am confident with the blending and tasting now, and understand varietals and about the contributions of different types of grapes and vineyards.

The best education I’ve gotten is simply through a lot of tasting. I try fruits from different parts of the vineyard and have really gotten familiar with them to be able to discern on my own. I lean heavily on Eric. I’m asking him: ‘What might this do in two or three years?’ ‘How does this contribute to a blend?’ We take beakers and test and mess around with percentages. The fun part has been seeing these wines from start to finish and really getting to say I worked on them and with the Dunhams.

Is making wine anything at all like making movies or TV shows?

It is actually. It’s slow and you do a lot of waiting. You have to wait and see if people will respond to it, and see what people will say about it. How they respond to it reflects how it does, if it’s to their liking, the whole talk about numbers. It is also a lot like golf where you have to prove yourself every year. Every Thursday everyone starts at zero. It’s like that with wine, you have to prove yourself every year. Ultimately, what I’m trying to do is make something that I like. If i’m happy with it for myself, then I can let the chips fall. I also do a small amount so  there isn’t a huge loss. It's not my livelihood and I can be cavalier about it.

Sounds like it is a lot more work than one might anticipate.

It’s a lot of work. A lot more than I thought. I am interested in the competition of the marketplace and to see if I can make wines that stand up on their own. It’s a lot of work. You will get your hands dirty, and that appeals to me. I just didn’t realize how significant and how involved I would be, but I like it.

What has been the greatest burden of the wine business for you?

The greatest burden is the travel, although I can't complain too much because most of the places that sell my wine are in cities that I like to travel to: New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Seattle, Portland, Houston and hopefully soon, to Chicago.

What have you learned about this business that other small business owners could glean from?

Having a knowledgeable partner who knows what they're doing and who I get along with well is essential. I've also learned that it takes a lot of time, more than I anticipated. I didn't really think it through that far when I started. It's something I've discovered on the journey. If it's a vanity project that you want to do, that's cool, you just need to find someone who can help make that happen. But if you think winemaking is something you might enjoy, the first thing I would suggest is to call it what it is: wine-selling, because that's what it ultimately comes down to.

Where do you hope to be in five years with Pursued by Bear?

I'm just now asking myself that question. We've released our fourth vintage of Pursued by Bear and this year we added a small release of a fantastic Syrah called Baby Bear, named in honor of my son who was born in 2008, the year we harvested. So I'm just now lifting my head up and looking forward and thinking about what I want the brand to be down the road. Obviously, I want to continue to improve the wine, the intensity, the flavors.

I like to think that I'll keep exploring the different sources of grapes, the different vineyards in Washington and subtly playing with the blend. The Syrah is exciting because I know some things that I want to try in the winemaking process to see what it will do, but I have no desire to expand production at this point, not until I have a better sense of what I want to do. I don’t have a real vision for the future for the brand or the wine other than tinkering with it. I  just want to spend more time learning about other growers and vineyard sites.

And what do you suggest pairing your wines with?

They’re great with red meat, a rib-eye steak, anything with a glaze, a cherry glaze with a slight sweetness to it is fantastic. These wines have the acid to really cut through the fattiness of a red meat.

Demi Moore

Demi Moore shed her famous, long, brunette locks for the chance to kick butt with the guys in the 1997 film "G.I. Jane" directed by Ridley Scott. The role was a huge switch from her previous work in "Striptease" or "Ghost, " but it garnered Demi a lot of attention for still managing to look so good with no hair.

Cameron Diaz

She didn't technically shave her head, but Cameron Diaz did don a bald cap for her heart-wrenching role in 2009's "My Sister's Keeper."
