Actress Tori Spelling has filed a lawsuit against the Japanese restaurant Benihana after claiming she was seriously burned at one of its locations.

According to The Wrap, the suit claims the former "Beverly Hills 90210" star slipped and fell on one of the establishment's grills, sustaining "deep second- and third-degree burn injuries requiring hospitalization and surgery."

She was at the company's Los Angeles location (specifically in Encino).

According to court papers obtained by The Wrap, Spelling is seeking damages that "exceed $25,000" for hospital and medical expenses and loss of earning capacity.

Here's what a Benihana grill looks like.

Donald Trump: 'Kanye West — I love him'

Real-estate developer Donald Trump doubled down on his recent praise for Kanye West during a Thursday press conference in which he declared he wouldn't launch a third-party 2016 presidential run.

While taking questions on a wide range of topics, the Republican businessman declared that he has nothing but "love" for the sometimes-controversial rapper.

"I'll never say bad [things] about him. You know why? Because he loves Trump. He loves Trump. He goes around saying, 'Trump is my all-time hero.' He says it to everybody. So Kanye West — I love him," Trump said.

West questionably declared his plans to run for president in 2020 during Sunday's MTV VMA awards. Trump suggested that he might have to compete against West during his reelection campaign.

"Now maybe in a few years I'll have to run against him. I don't know. So I'll take that [praise] back," he joked.

Trump frequently blasts media figures and his Republican rivals on the campaign trail, but he said Thursday that he's a "counterpuncher."

Accordingly, Trump said he wouldn't say anything nasty about West since the rapper has been praising him.

"He's been so nice to me," he said. "I only hit people when they hit me — only. And Kanye West has been so great. I would never say bad [things] about him."

Enormous, cloud-like sheep are an evolutionary nightmare

Talk about a close shave!

Earlier today, a sheep named Chris got a much-needed shear that, in all probability, saved his life.

Chris is a merino sheep, which is a special breed of sheep that are famous for producing some of the softest, finest wool in the world. And they never stop making it.

That's where Chris got into trouble: He got lost in the wild years ago and his wool never stopped growing. So when shearers finally removed it, they collected a record-shattering 89 pounds worth of the fluffy stuff.

Unlike wild sheep, who shed most of their wool every year, merino sheep don't periodically lose their hair. They just keep growing more wool, which is exactly what sheep farmers want.

In the 13th and 14th centuries, Spanish sheep herders let their local sheep breed with English sheep. The result was the merino — a sheep that doesn't even qualify as a freak of nature because Mother Nature would never make such an animal. They are an evolutionary nightmare that humans made.

That's because these sheep cannot shed wool on their own, a vital survival trait for sheep in the wild. Merino sheep need humans to shear their wool for them. These sheep can produce between 10 to 40 pounds of wool each year. From the looks of him, Chris had not been sheared for at least several years:

australia sheep

While that's not a problem for the many merino sheep on farms around the world, sheep like Chris who get lost in the wild are in big trouble.

If a hiker had not spotted Chris, he would have continued growing more and more wool, which eventually could have become infected and even prevented him from going to the bathroom, Tammy Ven Dange of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals told the Canberra Times.

Chris isn't the first merino to get lost and grow mind-boggling amounts of wool. In 2004, a sheep named Shrek was found after living in a New Zealand cave for six straight years. He was carrying an extra load of 60 pounds of wool, which, although a considerable amount, still doesn't compare to Chris's 89-pound coat.

Chris took 45 minutes to shear — about 90 times longer than the 30-second shear your average merino gets each year. It was a long and arduous operation, but Chris looks all the better for it and looks like a pretty happy camper:

Why cord cutters ditch pay-TV

unnamed

Digital streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video are not the main reason broadband users are ditching pay-TV packages, according to Ericsson ConsumerLab's annual TV & Media report. The report reveals that almost half of broadband household users globally are cutting the cord because they are fed up with shelling out high prices for pay-TV packages. The report highlights what cord cutters value when paying for subscriptions and reaffirms the ways cable companies can draw TV defectors back in.

Here are some key takeaways from the report:

  • Viewers find traditional TV packages too expensive. 47% of global respondents got rid of their pay-TV packages because they needed to save money. And 33% of respondents said they did not watch enough TV to justify the cost of a package.
  • Viewers want to choose what they want to watch, when they want to watch. 16% of respondents said that they were frustrated they couldn't customize their pay-TV packages to pay only for programming they actively watch.
  • A surprisingly small number of viewers ditched pay-TV packages because they subscribed to a video streaming service. Only 11% of respondents said they cut the cord because they were already paying for internet streaming services like Netflix and Amazon, suggesting that lower prices or à la carte programming options would likely keep many viewers paying for traditional TV packages.

Hillary Clinton hits Donald Trump for saying Kareem Abdul-Jabbar doesn't 'have a clue about life'

AP_599926871872

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gave a rare televised interview on Friday during which, among other things, she addressed Donald Trump's attacks against one of her aides, Huma Abedin.

Clinton said she didn't mind the Republican front-runner's attacks against herself but was bothered by the Trump saying Abedin could not be trusted with classified material when she worked at the State Department.

"Well, he's attacked so many people, including my close aide and myself and many other people. I can take that. I mean, that's just par for the course," she said.

Clinton quickly pivoted to other media figures Trump has trashed.

"I do regret that he's going after so many people, many of them by name — from great basketball players to people who expressed different opinions from him," she said.

Clinton's reference to "great basketball players" was likely a jab at Trump for insulting NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who this week wrote a Washington Post column critical of the real-estate mogul's campaign.

Trump responded to Abdul-Jabbar as he often does: with handwritten scathing commentary sent directly to the author.

"Now I know why the press always treated you so badly — they couldn’t stand you. The fact is that you don’t have a clue about life and what has to be done to make America great again! Best wishes," Trump wrote to Abdul-Jabbar, who published the response.

Clinton, still speaking vaguely, called Trump's various attacks an "unfortunate development," and also criticized the Republican businessman for using harsh rhetoric against illegal immigration and "women broadcasters." This was likely a reference to Fox News host Megyn Kelly, with whom Trump has passionately feuded, but could also include other television journalists.

"I think it's an unfortunate development in American politics that his campaign is all about who he's against, whether it's immigrants, or women broadcasters, or aides of other candidates," she said.

"He is the candidate of being against," Clinton added. "The vision that I have for America is how we come together."

MARK CUBAN: Mavericks fans love that Donald Trump 'is shaking things up'

Real-estate magnate Donald Trump's presidential campaign announced on Friday that it scheduled a major rally in two weeks at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

This is the same venue that in which the NBA's Dallas Mavericks play their home games. So Business Insider reached out to the basketball team's owner, Mark Cuban, to find out if would be attending.

The outspoken investor said he would be filming another episode of "Shark Tank" at the same time. However, he predicted Trump would bring down the house at his home arena.

"I can't be there," Cuban wrote through his Cyber Dust social media app. "But I have no doubt he will kill it in Texas."

Cuban frequently weighs on Trump's presidential campaign on Cyber Dust, once even praising it as "probably the best thing to happen to politics in a long long time."

He has also opined at length about how there's one word that sums up Trump — "killer" — and speculated on how he would respond if Trump, a fellow billionaire, asked him to be his vice president.

Cuban told Business Insider on Friday that much of the feedback he has received from Mavericks fans has been pro-Trump. Cuban suggested that Republican businessman's brashness and drive has some natural appeal in Texas.

"People aren't concerned with his policies at this point. They think ... they will evolve," Cuban wrote. "They love that he is shaking things up. There is nothing more Texan than being confident and entrepreneurial. That's the sense I get."

Aretha Franklin sues to stop a documentary on her from being shown at a major film festival

Aretha Franklin Rob Kim Getty

In a complaint filed in the US District Court in Colorado, legendary singer Aretha Franklin is seeking to stop the Telluride Film Festival from screening the documentary "Amazing Grace" on Friday.

According to Variety, Franklin contends that the documentary, which is culled from concert footage shot in 1972 by the late actor/director Sydney Pollack, "was taken with the express understanding that it would not be used commercially without agreement and consent by Ms. Franklin."

Franklin is seeking a court order to prevent Telluride from showing the movie on Friday.

This is not the first time Franklin has tried to prevent the concert footage from being shown.

In 2011, the singer sued "Amazing Grace" producer Alan Elliott and, as stated in the current complaint, the "lawsuit was resolved after Elliott agreed not to release the film."

Another "Amazing Grace" producer, Joe Boyd, told the Detroit Free-Press that "we are operating under the existing contract between Aretha Franklin and Warner Bros., which has governed the use of footage from this session in the past."

"Amazing Grace" is a behind-the-scenes look at Franklin's best-selling album "Amazing Grace," which consists of the two days of gospel performances she did at the New Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Watts, Los Angeles, in January 1972.

The film has been a passion project of Elliott's since the 2008 death of Pollack, who always hoped the film would one day be released.

The Telluride Film Festival is one of the main destinations for films that want to be considered for awards season.

"Amazing Grace" is scheduled to screen at the Toronto International Film Festival next week.

Burning Man Costumes

Burning Man 2015 officially started on Sunday.

Even as photos of this year's festival have started trickling onto social media, many are still baffled by what exactly goes on at the week-long event.

Two years ago, I went to Burning Man for the first time.

While I had attended manydifferentfestivalspreviously, Burning Man was unlike anything I had ever seen.

Burning Man, as the website proclaims, is "an annual art event and temporary community based on radical self expression and self-reliance in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada."

The year I attended, so did more than 61,000 other people, many of them in the tech industry. This year, more than 70,000 people are expected — myself included.

While many people go for the full seven days, I previously did only four, so my experience may have been different from that of others. But the beauty of Burning Man is that all attendees can have whatever kind of experience they want.

For me, I loved biking around during the hot desert days looking at all of the beautiful art installations constructed in the middle of nowhere and taking advantage of strangers' generosity by way of wine tastings, zip lines, and fried chicken.

For others, the festival comes alive at night. As the sun goes down, the lights of Black Rock City come up and the pulse of the music keeps people awake until well into the following day.

Since most people who haven't been to Burning Man seem to be confused by what it actually is, here are some photos that sum up my trip two years ago. After a hiatus last year, I'll be heading back to the Burn in a few days, so check Business Insider for full coverage.

MORE: Here's why 68-year-old Susan Sarandon loves going to Burning Man

It all started with this: a cheap leopard suitcase I purchased on the streets of New York City. Everything you bring to Burning Man is at risk of getting seriously dirty or of disappearing. I felt OK sacrificing this.

I packed it full with costumes, sunscreen, sunglasses, flashlights, food, and other items on the official checklist. Everything is in plastic bags to keep it clean from the impending desert dust.

Upon arrival in Reno, Nevada, the closest airport, I hit a Walmart to grab last-minute necessities such as jugs of water. Walmart was clearly prepared for all of the "Burners" driving from Reno.

And tech writer Nellie Bowles even spotted the Oscar winner helping out on the playa during the first day of the week-long festival:

But Sarandon is no stranger to Burning Man.

The actress first went to the festival two years ago. After the experience, she spoke to The Daily Beast about why she loved it:

It’s fabulous. I went all around on a Segway and a bicycle, which was great, and even though people sometimes recognized me and said, 'Oh, it’s so cool you’re here!' it wasn’t like walking the streets of New York. The art was amazing. You’ll find fantastical stuff like four-story women, and when the light comes up, a half-naked woman with a parasol. Despite the fact that there was more of a police presence there, it was a lot of fun and I’d definitely go back.

Sarandon had to opt out of the festival last year because her daughter was due to give birth at any moment. "I don’t think I’d feel very free to indulge if I was waiting for a message to see if she’s gone into labor," she explained.

But when Sarandon is free of responsibility, she told the Beast she definitely lets loose and experiments with drugs:

Well, it’s pretty psychedelic to begin with. But, yeah, I’m not new to the idea of mushrooms. I don’t really like chemical things, really... But I’ve done Ayahuasca [psychedelic tea] and I’ve done mushrooms and things like that. But I like those drugs in the outdoors — I’m not a city-tripper. My attitude about marijuana or anything is, 'Don’t be stoned if you have to pretend you’re not,' so I’d never do drugs if I was taking care of my kids. I like doing it in the Grand Canyon, or in the woods. It does remind you of your space in the universe—your place in the universe—and reframe things for you. I think you can have some very profound experiences.

Susan Sarandon Goldie HawnSarandon isn't the only Hollywood celebrity to attend Burning Man. Last year, Will Smith was spotted performing a choreographed dance on a Segway in the middle of the desert.

The director of 'Going Clear' says Scientologists have been coming after him 'pretty hard'

Alex Gibney

As director Alex Gibney prepares for the release of his latest movie, “Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine,” it’s hard to pass up a chance to talk to the Oscar winner about his other recent film, the HBO Scientology documentary “Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief.

At a recent screening of his Steve Jobs doc, Business Insider spoke with Gibney and asked him if he’s dealt with the same harassment by members of the Church of Scientology that former members of the church shown in the film say they have received.

“They’ve come after the people in the film much harder than I,” Gibney told Business Insider. “But they’ve come after me pretty hard and it’s a strange thing to be vilified 24/7. There is a set of danger around that and I have to be concerned.”

Since Gibney premiered “Going Clear” at the Sundance Film Festival in January, Scientology has done everything from running a full-page ad in The New York Times in an attempt to discredit him to even using social media to run anti-Gibney videos.

Here’s one example:

At the time of the film’s release, Gibney told Business Insider there was a simple motivation behind the church doing this: “They are playing a PR game with [their members] to say, ‘Look at these evil people who are attacking us. Look how valiantly we are trying to defend our organization.’”

goingclear01Like “Going Clear,” “Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine” is not a flattering piece.

Along with chronicling the successes that made Jobs an icon before his untimely death in 2011, the film also delves into his denial that he was the father of his daughter Lisa (which was later proven by a paternity test) and his unflattering treatment of his employees, including Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak before they created the company.

But Gibney sees neither as attack films.

steve jobs documentary final“They are about human psychology,” he tells us. “They are really about power and abuses of power.”

However, exposing the darker side of things comes with a price.

Gibney told Business Insider that he’s not just received pushback from Scientology but from Apple as well. Neither the company nor Jobs’ widow, Laurene, would cooperate with the making of the movie.

However, with Scientology he says he has to be “cautious.”

“The Scientology people are tough, what they try to do is they try to play with your head and destabilize you.”

When asked if there have been instances where he’s had to deal with Scientology members outside of the world of internet trolls, Gibney would only say, “You know that the cyber sometimes become physical.”

In an email to Business Insider, a spokesperson for Scientology calls Gibney's accusations, "another publicity stunt by Gibney’s PR machine to manufacture interest in his grossly inaccurate and fictional film."

"The Church of Scientology has been very public and very transparent in its response to Gibney’s 'documentary,'” the email went on to say. "Our Freedom Magazine website has published videos and white papers exposing the fraud Alex Gibney is perpetrating on his audiences, as well as all the material he ran from because it totally undercut his film. Please watchto see how he avoided the Church for two years."

The email also stated: "Because Mr. Gibney remained anything but objective, the Church has compiled the unvarnished truth in the form of video footage, court documents, publicly available records and testimonials by pertinent individuals who represent Scientology, and were intentionally ignored by Mr. Gibney and HBO.It concluded: "Under the guidance of the leader of the religion, Scientology has expanded faster in the last 10 years than in its previous 50 and is the fastest-growing religion of the 21st century."

Apple has not responded to Business Insider's request for comment.

'Fear the Walking Dead' fans aren't happy about the amount of black deaths

fear the walking dead calvin

AMC's "Fear the Walking Dead" turned up the action for its second episode on Sunday, but as the body count increased so did some questions as to the race of the show's first casualties.

More and more people became infected by the mysterious disease that was making people act zombie-like. And the show's primary family experienced it for themselves when Nick's (Frank Dillane) friend and drug dealer Calvin (Keith Powers) became infected and Nick and his parents barely escaped without being bitten.

fear the walking dead mattOn Sunday, we learned that Alicia's (Alycia Debnam-Carey) boyfriend had become infected. And despite her desire to take care of him, her parents convinced her to leave him. The power had gone out in parts of the city and there was a growing unease among the citizens.

Meanwhile, Nick was suffering from intense withdrawal. In an effort to help her son, Madison (Kim Dickenswent to the school to find medication to help him. While there, she discovers that Principal Artie has become full-on zombie. And in order to save herself (and a student, who himself was stocking up on goods from the school), Madison had to bash the principal's head in.

One thing that viewers and TV critics realized was that the three victims were all black. Plus, all of this occurred against a backdrop that wreaked of comparisons to Ferguson -- first responders were being attacked by the infected and police were resorting to gunning down unarmed citizens who wouldn't back down.

Viewers expressed some outrage over the show's number of black deaths:

"Fear the Walking Dead" showrunner and co-creator Dave Erickson said that race was never a factor when deciding who would die.

"When we were writing the pilot, it wasn't something that came up in conversations in the room or with the network," Erickson told The Hollywood Reporter. "Ultimately, it came down to when we were casting those parts, we didn't know who was going to live, who would die or how those stories would arc out or not arc out. For us, it was about casting that felt reflective of the community and getting the best actor and that was the final determining factor."

Fear the Walking Dead principal artie

When THR asked if there was some discussion about the race of the actors once those casualties were decided and the casting completed, the showrunner said no.

"For that episode, it was about how it would reflect on the characters themselves and how things would play out over the course of the season," he said. "I realize it's clearly become an issue and it's something we are mindful of. But ultimately it's trying to tell the story the best way we can and cast the best people we can."

The film would go on to win Razzie awards for Worst Picture, Worst Actress, Worst Director, and Worst Supporting Actor, Donald Trump.

In one incredible line of dialogue during Trump's cameo, he tells Bo Derek: "Be assured Mrs.Scott, that in this room there are knives sharp enough to cut you to the bone and hearts cold enough to eat yours as hors d'oeuvres."

Michael Shannon says the viral 'Batman v Superman' story about him wearing flippers as General Zod was just a joke

Turns out it’s hard to know when Michael Shannon is joking.

Earlier this month the actor told a reporter for Vulture that he is starring in the upcoming movie “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” reprising his role as General Zod from the 2013 film “Man of Steel.”

He then went on to tell a funny story about an incident that happened on set.

“I was in my costume, and I couldn’t use my fingers because in the sequel I have flippers instead of hands,” he told the reporter. “So I had these wax flippers on my fingers, and I couldn’t open the door, and I could hear Zack [Snyder, the director] being like, 'Where’s Shannon? Where the f—k is he?' and the whole crew was standing around. I was like, knocking on the door with my flippers, 'Let me out of here!'”

The story went viral across the internet, with many sites coming up with theories as to why General Zod would now suddenly have flippers.

But when talking to Business Insider on Monday Shannon came clean: the story was a joke.

“That was me just having a laugh,” Shannon told BI while doing press for his new movie “99 Homes.

“I mean, honestly, the whole situation is kind of absurd because you’re not supposed to talk about it. They [the studio] tell you, 'Don’t talk about it,' and people keep asking you about it."

Shannon says he made up the story to entertain himself, because it can get boring when reporters ask the same questions over and over again.

"Every once in a while to amuse myself I say something ridiculous and it’s amazing how it takes off," he said. "I guess people are that desperate to get some glimpse into — I mean, can’t you just wait for the movie to come out? Isn’t it more fun that way? I don’t understand this thing about knowing everything about a movie before going to see it.”

Shannon said he wasn’t surprised that his fake story took off. “I have a very dry sense of humor,” he continued. “I deliver this information in a very matter-of-fact way. But Zod has flippers? Are you kipping me? Why would Zod have flippers? That’s Aquaman or something.”

So, it sounds like there will be no flippers for Zod in “Batman v Superman” after all.

Unless, he’s just having fun with another reporter…

In a very slow Labor Day holiday weekend at the multiplex, it's faith-based film "War Room" that finally drops N.W.A. biopic "Straight Outta Compton" from its box office perch.

In its second weekend in theaters, "War Room" tops the three-day weekend with an estimated $9.35 million. "Straight Outta Compton" took in an estimated $8.85 million to come in second, according to pro.boxoffice.com.

"War Room" is the latest project from brothers Alex (director) and Stephen (producer) Kendrick, whose Christian-focused titles have found box office success in the last decade with titles like "Courageous" and "Fireproof."

While the new release this weekend, "The Transporter Refueled," didn't fare so well. A reboot of the actioner without star Jason Statham debuted with an estimated $7.1 million over the three-day weekend. Setting an opening weekend low for the franchise.

And with this weekend being the official end of the summer movie season, the film has the dubious distinction of being the lowest opening weekend sequel of the summer.

There's a right and wrong way to consume this 'superfood' that Taylor Swift ate to lose 10 pounds

Some, including singer Taylor Swift, have said the wildly popular chia seed can help with weight loss.

Chia seeds are tiny, gray-black seeds that come from the beautiful chia flower, which is native to central and southern Mexico and Guatemala.

In these regions of the world, chia seeds are popular in nutrition drinks because they are loaded with fiber, protein, and some key B vitamins.

Just two tablespoons (or about 1 ounce) are packed with nutrients, including rough percentages of the average adult's daily allowance of the following:

  • 40% fiber, which helpswith digestion and can lower your risk of diabetes
  • 9% protein, which is essentialfor the growth and development of muscle
  • 17% calcium, which is importantin the formation of bones and teeth and helps with blood clotting
  • 12% iron, which is importantfor the transport of oxygen throughout the body

As of yet, there are no robust scientific studies to back up the idea that chia seeds can help with weight loss.

And be warned: There is a right and wrong way to eat them, especially if you have a disorder called dysphagia, which is characterized by difficulty swallowing.

Thirsty sponges

That's because of the way chia seeds behave in water: Once wet, they'll expand to many times the size they are when dry, and if they're in your stomach when they expand, they may make you feel fuller than you otherwise would.

Chia seeds are like a thirsty sponge when they come into contact with water. They can absorb anywhere from 12 to 27 times their weight in water. When that happens, the seeds can form a gel-like coating.

Check out the time-lapse GIF below to see how they expand over about 10 minutes after being immersed in a glass of water:

chia seedsThis behavior is also why they can be dangerous if eaten incorrectly, at least according to Rebecca Rawl, who specializes in stomach and intestine disorders at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, and who recently treated a man who'd become unable to swallow after ingesting the seeds.

When preparing chia seeds, it's common to add them to water, yogurt, salad dressing, or another liquid-based substance.

Some packages of the seeds also suggest they can be eaten raw. However, at least one recent report suggests that that could be dangerous, especially when washed down with a big glass of water.

chia seedsAlthough rare, consuming chia seeds this way can worsen swallowing problems in people who suffer from dysphagia, or difficulty swallowing.

Last year, a 39-year-old man reportedly had to seek medical treatment after swallowing a tablespoon of the dry seeds and washing them down with a glass of water.

Women's Health Magazine noted that the man had a history of dysphagia, and, after ingesting the chia seeds, his symptoms worsened significantly.

That's because, due to his preexisting condition, the seeds became stuck in his esophagus, or food pipe, on the way to his stomach and began expanding.

By the time he reached a treatment center, the seeds had blocked his throat, preventing him from swallowing.

"It was a gel of these seeds, the consistency was similar to Playdoh — not solid, but not a liquid," Rawl explained to for Common Health.

While this man's experience is the only recorded case where someone has suffered from eating chia seeds, there are an estimated 300,000 to 600,000 cases of people in the US alone who suffer from dysphagia each year. And 15% of the elderly reportedly suffer from it.

Though Rawl says it is not a good idea for anyone with this condition to consume chia seeds raw, there is a safe way to eat them:

"Patients with a history of [swallowing problems] ... should be cautioned that chia seeds should only be consumed when they have had the ability to fully expand in liquid prior to ingestion," Rawl told WebMD.

Now check out another mesmerizing time-lapse video on YouTube of chia seeds expanding:
