AOL is launching what appears to be an online version of CNN.

As part of the process, the company is holding open auditions for anchors.

Today's "casting call" began at 5am.

By 7am, AOL CEO Tim Armstrong happily tweeted, more than 700 people had showed up:

AOL anchor auditions

In a fun twist, AOL is streaming the anchor auditions on AOL.com

If you spend a few minutes watching some of them, you will come to the same realization that you likely came to when you first watched some of the dozens of online "TV shows" that newspapers have launched in the past several years: That looking and sounding great on TV is harder than it looks!

But out of 700+ auditioners, AOL seems likely to find at least a couple of budding Christiane Amanpours and Diane Sawyers for its CNN killer.

Here's one young hopeful superimposed on a green-screen of the Great Wall of China. Could she be the one?

aol anchor quest

Anyway, if you've ever dreamed of talking to a camera all day, get down to 770 Broadway!

Here's the blog post the company published announcing the auditions:

Starting tomorrow, AOL will be rolling out live programming on AOL.com...and we want you to be front and center!

AOL is holding open auditions for people who are destined to inform and entertain the world and do it in their own unique way,

We want the most talented and passionate news, sports, weather, entertainment, and Internet-y storytellers in the world to help us launch AOL Live this summer. If you have dreamed of being on-air, live in front of millions of people, AOL could make your wish come true.

Auditions start at 5 a.m. this Thursday and Friday at AOL headquarters in New York. Come one, come all to 770 Broadway in Manhattan.

Want to stand out and make a huge impact? Here's the trick:
  • Dress for success: We want people to be stylish, interesting, and appealing. We want sports people to be sporty, music fans to sing, business types who can show us the money, weather people to be warm and sunny. If you are into the world of marketing, get pumped to read ad copy. You get the idea.
  • Bring Passion: We only hire passionate people who love what they do. If you are passionate about news, prove it.
  • Stand out: We aren't going to tell you how. You know what to do. Can you prove that you are better than any anchor on TV today?

And guess what? You aren't just showcasing your skills for a bunch of executives in suits (actually we don't wear suits at AOL). Your best stuff will be streamed LIVE on AOL.com. Soon, our viewers will have a chance to weigh in and tell us which anchor we should choose.

AOL is a fun, fast-paced environment where passion rules. We want fresh faces to join our team. Spread the word. Bring some friends. Bring your family. We'll see you bright and early on Thursday and Friday morning. We'll provide the bagels and coffee. You bring the talent.

Here are the details:

  • Thursday, June 27 and Friday, June 28
  • 5AM Casting Call opens
  • 10AM Casting Call closes
  • Props encouraged!
  • Please bring a headshot and resume
  • AOL viewers will help decide if you make it as our next AOL Live anchor!
  • *Please note: must be 18 and older to try out.

Pippa Middleton Diageo has denied it has any commercial agreement with Pippa Middleton to promote its Pimms drink. The drinks company, when approached by the Daily Mail over Middleton’s frequent mentions of the product in her magazine columns, while she has been spotted and pictured on several occasions in public drinking the product, denied that she was being paid to promote the product.

“Diageo has not paid Pippa Middleton to plug Pimm’s, though we are happy she seems to like the product,” a spokesperson for Diageo stated.

According to the Daily Express, in this week’s article for the Spectator, where Middleton is writing a ‘Wimbledon Diary’ Middleton wrote: ‘I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy a Pimm’s or three when I’m watching a game’, adding: ‘Only pints will do, frankly, since half the glass is ice anyway.” She continued to elaborate: “I try to smuggle mine under my chair and sip it when the cameras aren’t on me. “Oversized sunglasses help the disguise and mean I can nod off unnoticed after one too many Pimm’s in the sun.” Middleton’s spokesperson has yet to comment on any potential commercial deal.

Alec Baldwin went off the rails late Thursday after a Daily Mail reporter accused his pregnant 32-year-old wife, Hilaria Baldwin, of Tweeting upbeat messages about shopping and fruit smoothies during James Gandolfini's funeral.

Baldwin — who has been known to express his emotions on Twitter (remember when a stewardess asked him to shut off his phone in the middle of his game of Words with Friends?) — took to the social media platform to shred the reporter apart.

Baldwin has since deleted his entire Twitter account, but Daily Mail captured screen grabs before the Tweets were taken down.

But then the attack got personal and Baldwin repeatedly threatened reporter George Stark with violence.

The Daily Mail has since changed the story's byline to MailOnline Reporter and written a flattering item on Baldwin and his wife.

But Hilaria, who has been vocal on her own Twitter account, says she wants a real apology.

After Thursday's report against her came out, Hilaria explained:

A rep for Baldwin and Thomas says there’s a simple explanation for all of the confusion.

“She didn’t have her phone with her during the service and she didn’t tweet anything til they had left,” a rep for teh couple tells Gossip Cop, explaining, “They were there for a couple of hours, she is 7 1/2 months pregnant and left because she needed some water.”

The spokesperson goes on to note, “She retweeted people who had tweeted at those times,” accounting for the timestamps on the messages.

This Is Your Chance To Buy James Bond's Actual, Working Submarine Car

james bond 007 submarine car lotus esprit

James Bond's Lotus Esprit may not be as beautiful or iconic as the Aston Martin DB5, but it is the most outlandish ride 007 ever drove. That's because it doubled as a submarine.

The car used in the movie actually functioned underwater.

And now it's for sale.

RM Auctions is putting the Esprit Series 1, which starred in the 1977 Bond flick "The Spy Who Loved Me," on the block in London, September 8-9.

The Lotus has never been offered for sale, and spent much of its life forgotten in a Long Island storage unit. In 1989, a couple bought the unit without knowing its contents, only to find one of the coolest cars in movie history.

The auction house has not yet listed an expected sale price, but the last iconic Bond car it put under the hammer, the DB5 driven by Sean Connery in "Goldfinger" and "Thunderball," sold in 2010 for £2.9 million ($4.4 million).

The submarine car was known as "Wet Nellie" during filming, and was built for more than $100,00 (approximately $500,000 today) from the shell of the Lotus Esprit.

Here Are All The Easter Eggs In 'Monsters University'

Disney and Pixar's big prequel to 2001's "Monsters Inc." came out last weekend.

"Monsters University" had a great opening weekend debuting to $82 million

While most were excited to see the duo of Mike and Sulley (Billy Crystal and John Goodman) reunited on screen together during their college days, others were probably more excited with the thrills of the hidden gems in any Pixar flick.

Pixar is notorious for hiding a few iconic symbols in each of its films along with a hint at its next movie.

Disney publicly released a few of these little Easter Eggs along with high resolution photos.

Check them out below along with a few others we've compiled from around the Web and with our own eagle eyes.

Did you spot these while seeing the film?

The Pizza Planet Truck

The famous "Toy Story" truck appears in nearly every Pixar film. In "Monsters University" it pops up outside the JOX fraternity house in its driveway.

The Luxo Ball

The ball from Pixar's first computer animated short film "Luxo Jr" in 1986 appears in graffiti on the wall behind two characters, Claire Wheeler and Brock Pearson, while they're introduced during the Scare Games' first challenge.

A113

A113 is a former classroom of Pixar minds John Lasseter, Brad Bird, Pete Docter, and Andrew Stanton at California Institute of the Arts. The code has popped up on everything from a license plate in the "Toy Story" series to a freight train in "Cars." In "Monsters U," the number shows up on the door to the School of Scaring classroom.

Here are a few others ...

Little Mikey

In "Monsters Inc," Mike shows Boo his monster doll, little Mikey. You can see him sitting on a shelf in his dorm room and in his bed.

The Winds of Change

One of villain Randall's best lines in "Monsters Inc" is about the winds of change. In the prequel, the chameleon has a poster with the same phrase in his room. Bonus if you noticed that underneath the picture it says, "Shh, do you hear that?"

Monsters University Winds of Change

The Good Dinosaur

Pay attention to the dinosaur toys seen on the floor throughout the movie. During the last event of the Scare Games, there's a dinosaur that looks just like the one in concept art for Pixar's next film.

"The Good Dinosaur" director Bob Peterson even hinted on Twitter to "follow the toys."

In "Monsters Inc." Pixar teased Finding Nemo in similar fashion by placing a Nemo doll in the little girl Boo's room.

Here's original concept artwork for the next movie:

Check out some of the dinosaurs spotted in "Monsters University" here.

Notes From Celia

Celia is Mike's girlfriend from "Monsters Inc." According to Reddit user kaigenji you can spot some notes from her in Mike's locker.

The 25 Most Impressive Kids Graduating From High School This Year

$

William LeGateThey're barely 18 years old, but these high school students are doing more than most adults could ever hope to do in their lifetimes.

Their resumes will make your jaw drop: There's a scientist who built a nuclear reactor in his father's garage, a swimmer who won four Olympic gold medals, and a self-taught coder who runs his own app development company.

And more importantly, they prove that age really has no bearing on what people are able to accomplish.

Listed in alphabetical order, we found the 25 most impressive students graduating from high school this year.

Max Rosenberg contributed to this story.

Sabrina Brady created a drawing that was seen by millions of people on Google's home page.

High school: Sparta Senior High School, Sparta, Wisc.

What makes her impressive: Last month the Google home page depicted a touching doodle where a young girl embraces a man wearing a military uniform. The doodle was the heartfelt work of Sabrina Brady, recapturing the moment her father returned home from an 18-month deployment in Iraq when she was 10 years old. Brady won the prestigious Doodle 4 Google contest, as well as glory on the Google homepage, a $30,000 college scholarship, a Google Chromebook, and a $50,000 technology grant for her school.

Brady's drawing, titled "Coming Home," was chosen in a user vote among over 130,000 of entries from students in grades K through 12, who were instructed to draw the "best day ever," according to Google Technologist Daniel Sieberg in an interview on The TODAY Show.

Plans for next year: Brady will continue studying art at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) this fall.

Donald Chao started a non-profit that teaches people about the ecosystem.

High school: Newport High School, Bellevue, Wash.

What makes him impressive: Chao founded a non-profit organization in 2011 called the Ocean Acidification Education Project, which teaches people and organizations about their impact on marine ecosystems in the Puget Sound. The goal is that these people can then influence Washington state legislation to implement better, stricter methods of carbon dioxide emission reduction.

Chao also kick-started a program called Teach My Grandma, which "offers personalized, one-on-one, bilingual instruction at locations convenient for the client, whether that be at his or her retirement community or at a local Starbucks," he tells us. "We specialize in social media (i.e., Facebook and Skype), but can teach everything from computers/internet for beginners to Quickbooks."

He says he's also developing several other entrepreneurial projects, including a titanium dioxide-infused exterior paint used to neutralize greenhouse gases released by automobiles.

Chao speaks English, Mandarin, Spanish, Arabic, and Taiwanese Hokkien. He also taught himself how to pick locks, which is a hobby he enjoys doing as a puzzle, and also to help his friends. To be clear, Chao tells us, he only picks locks with permission from others.

Plans for next year: Chao plans to continue working on OAEP and Teach My Grandma as a freshman at the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business in the fall.

Conrad Farnsworth is the first person in Wyoming to build a nuclear fusion reactor.

High school: Newcastle High School, Newcastle, Wyo.

What makes him impressive:Conrad Farnsworth has managed to do something that all of 60 people, at most, have done: achieve nuclear fusion.

Farnsworth built a nuclear reactor in his father’s garage in order to enter a science fair. However, he was disqualified for supposedly competing in too many science fairs, and in the wrong order, according to the Star-Tribune.

“It’s frustrating having four years to get to a single point go down the drain... And it’s silly. It’s a science fair. Seriously, aren’t they supposed to be promoting science and not bureaucracy?” Farnsworth told the Star Tribune.

Regardless, Farnsworth can feel good knowing that he is the first person in Wyoming to build a nuclear fusion reactor.

Plans for next year: Farnsworth plans to attend the South Dakota School of Mines in the fall.

3 In 4 Americans Thought Kim And Kanye's Baby Name Was A Hoax

kanye west kim kardashian

According to an Ask.com survey, 75% of Americans thought the name North West was a hoax.

Until two weeks ago, Kim Kardashian had us fooled.

In March, when the reality star appeared on "The Tonight Show," Jay Leno asked if it were true that Kanye West was pushing for the name North for the couple's first child.

"That is not true. That is not one of the names on the list," Kardashian said.

After baby West was born a reported five weeks early, rumors and bets began to swirl about the possible name. Most people selected a range of "K" monikers given the Kardashian clan's tradition of sticking with "K" names.

Guesses ranged from "Khrist" to "Atlanta." Hip-hop site MediaTakeOut claimed at one point the baby's name was Kaidence Donda West.

However, when Kimye's baby name was finally revealed as North via a leaked birth certificate Twitter exploded

Ask.com reported that one quarter of adults believed Kardashian faked her July due date while nearly one in five think she induced labor to avoid gaining additional baby weight.

Kim isn't the only Kardashian sister whose baby name pick is getting attention. Kourtney's daughter Penelope swept nearly a third of the vote as favorite celebrity baby moniker.

Former Stasi Officer: The NSA Domestic Surveillance Program Would Have Been 'A Dream Come True' For East Germany

$

stasi

The National Security Agency's domestic surveillance capabilities would have been "a dream come true" for East Germany, a former lieutenant colonel in the defunct communist country's secret police told Matthew Schofield of McClatchy.

The Stasi was one of the most effective and repressive intelligence and secret police agencies in the world.

Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal called them "worse than the Gestapo," referring to the secret police of Nazi Germany.

“You know, for us, this would have been a dream come true,” Wolfgang Schmidt said. “So much information, on so many people.”

The comments echo those made NSA whistleblower William Binney Binney, who told documentarian Laura Poitras that the danger of the NSA's domestic dragnet is that "we fall into a totalitarian state. This is something the KGB, the Stasi or the Gestapo would have loved to have had."

Schmidt noted that the Stasi could only tap 40 phones at a time because of a lack of equipment and technology.

The 73-year-old also told McClatchy that the "only way to protect the people’s privacy is not to allow the government to collect their information in the first place.”

That echoes an argument made by the ACLU about the NSA's bulk collection of metadata.

The crucial constitutional moment, for Fourth Amendment purposes, is the moment the government seizes our information— not what it does with it afterwards," Patrick C. Toomey of the ACLU told Business Insider (emphasis ours)."That’s the case because putting a complete log of our communications in the government’s hands invites grave abuse and exposes us to invasions of privacy that cannot be justified, even retroactively. ... Our Constitution doesn’t permit the government to record our every phone call or communication now, without suspicion, and then ask questions later. That assertion flips the Fourth Amendment on its head.”

Schofield writes that Schmidt, who "headed one of the more infamous departments in the infamous Stasi, called himself appalled. The dark side to gathering such a broad, seemingly untargeted, amount of information is obvious," according to Schmidt.

“It is the height of naivete to think that once collected this information won’t be used,” he said. “This is the nature of secret government organizations."

So if you're having a discussion about whether or not Americans live in a surveillance state, show them this.

The Fallout Isn't Over Yet: Here's The Growing List Of Companies That Are Ditching Paula Deen

sears store

The fall of Paula Deen's cooking empire has been surprisingly swift — in one week's time, nearly a dozen companies that were affiliated with her brand have announced that they're distancing themselves from the former Food Network star.

On Friday, Kmart, Sears, and Walgreens became the latest companies to drop Deen, The Huffington Post reports. They're now "phasing out" all products associated with her brand.

Here's a running list of all the brands that have released statements distancing themselves from Deen so far:

  • Food Network
  • QVC
  • Smithfield Foods
  • Caesars Palace
  • Novo Nordisk
  • Walmart
  • Target
  • Home Depot
  • Kmart
  • Sears
  • Walgreens

Some of Deen's partners, including QVC and Novo Nordisk, have just suspended their relationship with Deen for the time being. Others, such as the Food Network, have dropped her altogether (the network announced that Deen's contract won't be renewed at the end of this month).

It's very possible that more brands could follow, but the fallout from Deen's racism scandal might be nearing an end. Some (albeit, smaller) companies she's partnered with are actually showing support for her.

UPDATE: J.C. Penney just announced that it's going to stop selling Paula Deen merchandise, bringing the total number of companies to distance themselves from Deen to 12.

While Jon Stewart is off directing "Rosewater" in the Middle East for 12 weeks this summer, "Daily Show" correspondent John Oliver has taken over his stateside hosting duties.

Oliver has been joking about Stewart's whereabouts ("hanging out in an underground bunker with Edward Snowden") since he took over on June 10, but Stewart Skyped in from his real shooting location Thursday night to say hello to viewers.

"I miss you guys like crazy cakes," Stewart said. "I love you guys. I can't wait to see you. This has been exciting and invigorating, but weird as hell."

As for whether he has been watching the "Daily Show" from abroad, Stewart admitted "I don't watch it all the time because it's too weird. It's like watching someone have sex with your wife's desk."

"You have a beautiful desk," Oliver deadpanned in response.

One noticeable change is that Stewart now has a scruffy grey beard.

"I didn't grow it," he joked. "When you get off the plane in the Middle East, they give it to you like the Hawaiians give you a lei."

Eminem Admits Prescription Drug Addiction: 'My Bottom Was Going To Be Death'

Eminem

Eminem is opening up about his drug addiction in the new documentary "How To Make Money Selling Drugs."

The 40-year-old rapper says he initially didn't think he had a problem because he was taking prescription pills prescribed to him by a doctor.

“When I took my first Vicodin, it was like this feeling of ‘Ahh.’ Like everything was not only mellow, but [I] didn’t feel any pain,” he recalls.

But after adding Xanax and Valium to the mix, things quickly began to unravel.

“I don’t know at what point exactly it started to be a problem. I just remember liking it more and more," he admits. "People tried to tell me that I had a problem.”

"I would say ‘Get that f------ person outta here,’” Eminem recounts in the film. “I can’t believe they said that sh-- to me. I’m not out there shooting heroin. I’m not f------ out there putting coke up my nose. I’m not smoking crack.”

Ultimately, Eminem was hospitalized and on the brink of death.

“Had I got to the hospital about two hours later, I would have died," he says. "My organs were shutting down. My liver, kidneys, everything. They were gonna have to put me on dialysis. They didn’t think I was gonna make it. My bottom was gonna be death.”

"I'm looking at my kids and [realizing] 'I need to be here for this,'" he says in the film.

After a relapse and eventual detox, Eminem finally got his habit under control.

“I had to regain motor skills, I had to regain talking skills. It’s been a learning process, I’m growing," reveals the rapper. "I couldn’t believe that anybody could be naturally happy without being on something. So I would say to anybody, ‘It does get better.’”

'Breaking Bad' Star Aaron Paul: 'Everyone Is Going To Be Very Happy' With The End Of The Show

jesse walt breaking bad

The final eight episodes of "Breaking Bad" begin airing this summer.

To prepare for the end, star Aaron Paul who plays Jesse Pinkman on the hit AMC series spoke with senior editor Rob Licuria of Gold Derby saying the finale met his expectations.

"We all had different hunches of how we thought it was going to end, and it surprised us all, but in a great way," said Paul. "I think everyone is going to be very happy. There's definitely going to be people that hate it just for the fact that the show is done."

Paul added, "It's so hard to end the show perfectly, but I really … honestly  … being a huge fan of the show as well … I think they did an amazing job."

During the 20-minute interview, Paul also recalled a few of his favorite episodes of the series including "Peekaboo" where Jesse plays the game with a half-dressed five-year-old boy. Jesse later leaves the youngster, a son of two drug addicts, on his front porch after calling 911.

jesse peekaboo breaking bad

His favorite scene is from season 4 episode 7 "Problem Dog" where Jesse recounts a story of killing a dog to his Narcotics Anonymous support group. Of course, the audience knows it's not really a dog that is weighing on the character's mind.

In one of the most emotional moments of the season, his character just loses it and breaks down about selling meth before storming out.

"It took us all day to shoot that scene," said Paul. "It was just such a brilliant piece of writing and it was just easy to do."

Here's the scene:

As for his relationship with co-star Bryan Cranston? Paul says he's pretty goofy on set. (That's not difficult to believe if you've seen the cast's gag reels.)

"There was definitely many, many, many tears when we had to say goodbye as our characters."

For any fan of the series, it's a good interview to sit through as Paul admits he believes "Breaking Bad" will be his greatest acting achievement.

"I've also come to the realization that this is the greatest thing that I will ever do, and I'm totally okay with that."

Paul said he's currently re-watching the entire series with his wife before its return.

"Breaking Bad" returns to AMC August 11.
