'Breaking Bad' Actor Bryan Cranston Did An Awesome AMA On Reddit

Bryan Cranston Breaking Bad Reddit AMA Twitter

"Breaking Bad" actor Bryan Cranston did an Ask Me Anything (AMA) on Reddit yesterday.

The actor's hit AMC series rolls out its final eight episodes starting in August.

We've compiled some of the best things we learned.

If you get a chance, read through it. Many of his responses are pretty hilarious.

Cranston voiced a villain on popular '90s kid show, "Power Rangers." And the blue Ranger is named after him.

"I did voice work for the Power Rangers years and years ago. Someone once told me they named the blue Power Ranger after me, his last name was Cranston. I found out years later that was true."

Here's a clip of him voicing a villain below:

He plans to do a Samuel L. Jackson monologue in the future for charity.

Last month, Samuel L. Jackson offered to read any dialogue if fans donated a total of $150,000 to the Alzheimer's Association. The result ended up in him reciting a fan favorite monologue from "Breaking Bad." (Here's the original.)

"I did see Sammy's monologue and I'm going to be making one of my own from one of his monologues at some point to help with the Alzheimer's research and finding the cure. I sympathize with him because my mother also had Alzheimer's and it's a horrible disease but he found a very interesting way to bring attention to it."

Cranston often pulls pranks on co-star Aaron Paul while filming "Breaking Bad."

"There was one episode when where someone was giving us a problem and I told him to take care of it and he didn't know specifically what I meant by it. I said "I need you to take care of it" and I reached into my waistband and pulled out a gun and put it on the counter. He understood the message. Then during the scene where I said "I need you to take care of it" I reached into my waistband and pulled out a dildo."

You can watch the video here.

Cranston is involved with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).

"John Walsh introduced me to the charity many years ago and I just gravitated to it because my daughter was 6-years-old at the time and I felt compelled to actively get involved."

He doesn't regret turning down any role.

"Not yet anyway. But there have been plenty the other way."

If Cranston wasn't an actor, he may be a policeman.

"Now? I don't know. But I thought about being a police man when I was younger. I was pretty close to becoming one too but in college I took some acting classes and I found that the girls were much prettier there than in police science."

Afterward, Cranston compiled a video of his five favorite moments from the AMA.

Check it out below:

Kathy Griffin

While most celebrities tweeted a brief "RIP" after the sad passing of James Gandolfini Wednesday, comedian Kathy Griffin posted a video to her nearly 1.8 million followers in which she recalls her "James Gandolfini moment."

After spotting the actor in a hotel lobby, Griffin reluctantly approached him.

"James Gandolfini has this vibe about him, I call it the James Gandolfini ring of fire," she joked during the past stand-up gig. "And it's kind of like he is Tony Soprano. And no one was going up to him because there's just something about him that seems to say 'Don't come up to me.'"

The meeting went well since Gandolfini's "possee" wanted to meet Griffin. But then she had to go and later make it awkward at the Emmys.

Watch her recall the funny encounters below:

Kid Rock Compares Justin Bieber To One-Hit Wonder Vanilla Ice, Says He's Set For Downfall

Kid Rock gave an icy review of teenie bopper and future astronaut Justin Bieber during a radio interview Wednesday with Howard Stern.

"Tell me if this is wrong," Rock said to Stern, "Justin Bieber is 100%  like watching Vanilla Ice all over again."

Stern quickly pointed out that Vanilla Ice is a one-hit wonder, explaining that his Grammy-nominated "Ice Ice Baby" became the first hip-hop track to top the Billboard charts, before Ice fizzled into irrelevancy.

A trucker-hat-wearing Rock replied, "Well as soon as Bieber has a hit, he'll be like Vanilla Ice then."

Rock, who made similarly disdainful remarks about rising stars on "American Idol" on Stern's show last fall, slammed the Biebs for not caring more.

“The kid’s young, he’s got some money, he’s got the world in his hands, it’s just kind of sad to see him go down this trajectory,” Rock continued. “It’s going to be a very long ride down. We all know the story. I kind of feel for the kid, to be honest with you.”

Every College Grad Should Hear Wendy Williams' Story About Struggling To Make It Big

Wendy Williams is better known for her larger-than-life radio personality and, as of late, her popular daytime talk show, "The Wendy Williams Show."

But in a candid interview with The Wall Street Journal's Lee Hawkins, Williams lets her hair down and opens up about what it took to break through the glass ceiling in talk radio.

Williams, a New Jersey native, was so desperate for a shot at getting on air after graduating college that she lived out of her car and worked for less than $4/hour at her first job, a tiny radio station in the Virgin Islands.

"I was very poor, but I was happy," Williams said. "I've never been motivated by money. I'm motivated by quality of life."

Less than a year later, she landed a gig at a D.C. station, where she worked weekdays. She spent weekends commuting to Queens, N.Y. for another radio job. Even though she knew family and friends in the city, she skipped visits in favor of sleeping out of her car, preferring to avoid anyone who was un-supportive of her goal.

"I would sleep in my Subaru," she said. "I would sleep at every rest stop between New York and Washington, D.C. to block out the noise of people telling me I couldn't do it."

james gandolfini

James Gandolfini's improbable rise to fame at the age of 38 came after years of struggle.

The actor, who died Wednesday at 51 of an apparent heart attack, broke through as an actor after years of hardship. Just how much he lived on the edge was clear from a pre-fame 1988 New York Times piece in which the then-26-year-old "Jim" Gandolfini discussed his peripatetic lifestyle.

Also read: James Gandolfini, 'Sopranos' Star, Dead at 51

Entitled "The Apartment Gypsies of Manhattan," the piece by Lisa W. Foderaro looked at the challenges of living in the city on a shoestring budget.

The future Tony Soprano told Foderaro that in his first four years living in New York City, he never signed a lease and never lived in any one place for more than 10 months at a time. Among the neighborhoods he briefly called home were Hoboken, N.J.; Astoria, Queens; and Park Slope, Brooklyn.

''Moving, to me, is no big deal,''Gandolfini says. ''I have a system down. I throw everything in plastic garbage bags and can be situated in my new place in minutes. Without my name on a lease, I'm in and out. I have no responsibilities.''

Foderaro notes that Gandolfini's "calling is the theater," but writes that he makes ends meet thanks to bartending and construction jobs.

"I was saddened by the news [of his death] but that article was written so long ago," Foderaro told TheWrap via email. "I'm afraid I don't have anything to add."

Abercrombie & Fitch pulled a t-shirt mocking musician Taylor Swift after fans swarmed the retailer with complaints.

The shirt in question read "#more boyfriends than t.s.," a jab at Swift's tumultuous love life.

Sapna Maheshwari at Buzzfeed points out that the retailer's hotline now says that the shirts have been pulled from shelves.

Ardent fans started a Change.org petition asking the shirt be removed, though it only has 81 signatures.

"Take away "#More boyfriends than t.s." t-shirt because it's hurtful to Taylor Swift and Swifties everywhere!" the petition reads.

Taylor Swift fans refer to themselves as "Swifties."

The brand also faced the public outcry about its refusal to carry sizes for large women, a policy that came to light after a Business Insider story last month.

James Gandolfini was on a "guy's trip" in Italy to attend the The Taormina Film Festival with his 13-year-old son, Michael, when the 51-year-old actor's life was sadly cut short Wednesday.

New details are beginning to emerge about how the star died and according to NBC News, "Gandolfini suffered a suspected heart attack in the bathroom of his hotel room at about 10 p.m. local time (4 p.m. ET)."

It was Gandolfini's teenage son who found his father collapsed in the bathroom of their hotel room and called hotel staff for help.

Hotel staff then called an ambulance, which arrived when Gandolfini was still alive but the "Sopranos" actor was declared dead 40 minutes after being admitted to the hospital.

Michael Kobold, who used to live with Gandolfini and called himself a family spokesman, talked to reporters Thursday outside the hotel and confirmed that hotel workers called an ambulance and first aid was administered on Gandolfini before he was transported to the hospital.

“Our prayers and condolences go to Mr Gandolfini's family and firends," Kobold continued. "We ask you all to respect the family's privacy at this difficult time.”

Tom Richardson, Gandolfini’s assistant, told The Hollywood Reporter"The family had a marvelous day together, and when he returned to the hotel Jimmy [Gandolfini] went to the bathroom and that is when something happened."

Gandolfini and his wife, Deborah, who were married in 2008, have a daughter, Liliana, born last year, HBO said in a statement. Michael is the teenage son of the actor and his former wife, Marcy.

Marcy reportedly flew to Italy immediately after the news to be by her son's side.

The Italian film festival Gandolfini was in town to attend, meanwhile, turned the ceremony where the actor was set to receive an award into a tribute instead.

For the record, "Holly The ASL Translator" came in at number 4, right behind the Wu-Tang Clan's actual performance and ahead of Bjork's crazy needle headdress.

'Mostly-Vegan' Actress Stars In Carl's Jr.'s Sexy Chicken Salad Ad

Carl's Jr. has extended its almost not-suitable-for-work, sexy burger commercials to the salad eating demographic.

The commercial is called "Forget You're Eating Salad," and it begs the question: did it make its star Jenny McCarthy — who's joining Kate Upton and Heidi Klum in the Carl's Jr. ad eye candy hall of fame — forget that she was eating chicken?

In 2009, McCarthy made a big announcement that she had decided to go vegan, but she is now the face of Carl's Jr.'s cranberry apple walnut grilled chicken salad.

Although she admitted to drinking milkshakes in the February 2013 issue of Shape magazine, which would be a no-no to a strictly vegan diet, she is still seen as an icon in the vegan community.

She's featured as a vegan celebrity. This tweet appeared less than a month ago:vegan jenny mccarthy twitter

Kayla Lostica from 72andSunny, the agency that created the spot, told BI in an email that, "Jenny does practice a mostly-vegan diet, but isn't too strict about it. I guess the grilled chicken was too good for her to resist!"

In a behind-the-scenes video of the commercial, McCarthy explained why she chose to represent the dish.

"What seals the deal for me is having the different textures in my salad," McCarthy said. "The crunch of the nut, and the sugary of the fruit, and the little juices of the apple that spices it up."

Although there's no talk of the chicken there, 72andSunny creative director Mick DiMaria assured viewers that she loves all the ingredients.

"She digs that fork in grabs almost all 10 ingredients in almost one bite," DiMaria said.

McCarthy ends up liking the salad so much, that she ends up eating it with her hands.

"They said I ate the most that anyone has ever eaten," McCarthy said.

See the behind-the-scenes look at the ad below:

The full version of the spot will air June 21.

Facebook Billionaire Sean Parker And Wife Say They've Received Death Threats Following Their Elaborate Wedding

Sean Parker and his wife's elaborate, multi-million dollar wedding was extensively covered in the press, and now the couple is suffering backlash. He and Alexandra Lenas had to cancel their honeymoon to manage the situation.

Parker maintains that the press was unfair in its coverage and butchered some of the facts, such as how much the couple actually spent on the Redwood affair ($4.5 million instead of $10 million, and most of it was spent restoring the forest grounds). Guests who attended said the wedding was beautiful and tastefully done.

Parker tells CNET that the online bullying has gotten out of hand. "There are crazy people on Facebook typing death threats...psychopaths are hunting me."

In an email to The Guardian, Parker describes some of the cruel reactions from people who believe the lavish wedding harmed the environment:

My wife and I should be happy right now, elated to have been married. Instead we are being spat upon by complete strangers while walking together on the street, cursed at by a waiter in a restaurant who had read bogus media reports about our wedding, and told by complete strangers that we should get our divorce papers ready since our marriage clearly isn't going to last.

…Trying to correct every misconception about me would be a losing battle and I would drive myself crazy trying to do it. This situation is different because it relates to one of the most personal and private of moments in life – my wedding. The ceremony was spiritual, intimate, and private – really only intended for our friends and family. We did not want this media spectacle because we felt it would compromise the very essence of what we were trying to communicate.

A Children's Cover Of 'Thrift Shop' Replaces Curse Words With Hilarious Lyrics

thrift shop macklemore

You've never heard Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' "Thrift Shop" quite like this before.

Kidz Bop, which offers kid-friendly alternatives to popular songs atop the Billboard charts, decided to do an unexpected cover of the popular song for its 24th CD.

In hindsight, it would be difficult to make a kid-friendly version of "Thrift Shop." It's filled with profanity. However, Kidz Bop succeeded and the song is a hit — just not with the right demographic.

The cover is getting ridiculed on both Twitter and Reddit for its many lyrical alterations.

Here are some of the most profound. The original lyrics can be found here.

Kidz Bop: "I'm so pumped about some clothes from the thrift shop."

Original: "I'm so pumped about some s--- from the thrift shop."

Kidz Bop: "Fifty dollars for a T-shirt — that's just silly overpriced."

Original: "Fifty dollars for a T-shirt — that's just some ignorant b---- (s---).

Kidz Bop: "Ice on the fringe, it's so so frosty. The people like, 'Hey, the guy on the marquee."

Original: Ice on the fringe, it's so d--- frosty that people like, "D---! That's a cold a-- honkey."

Kidz Bop: "Probably should have washed this, smells like my baseball cleats."

Original: "Probably shoulda washed this, smells like R. Kelly's sheets."

Kidz Bop: "Walk up to the club, I'm like 'What up? I got a hit song.'" (Some on Twitter and Reddit have noticed variations on this lyric.)

Original: This one's NSFW.

The original "I'm gonna pop some tags" was considered too racy as well.

Kidz Bop changes the ubiquitous line to "I'm gonna rock some tags."

Now, instead of taking off tags before wearing clothes, kids are being told it's cool to steal.

Cable Is Becoming A Safehouse For Canceled Network Comedies Like 'Futurama'

Futurama

In a world where TV shows can garner massive cult followings, where their franchise lives well beyond the show itself and the fans are genuinely ‘die-hards,’ you might think the risk of hiatus isn’t there.

You might think that if a show manages to pull in millions of viewers then it’s sitting pretty.

You’d be wrong.

All of that still isn’t enough for network television; they’re obsessed with ratings and if a show doesn’t satisfy its targets then it’s living on borrowed time. Just think of Body of Proof, which enjoyed a total of 7.4 million viewers for the season finale but still suffered the cut. Shows on networks don’t need to be anything but massive seat fillers, crowd pleasers.

Somewhere along the way, a show that’s worried about ratings will lose its artistic beauty as it’s forced to focus on survival rather than entertainment.

futuramaBut cable can serve as a safe house for shows killed on one of the big five networks. It can provide a place for the shows that were treated unfairly, for the shows that didn’t get to where they wanted to go creatively because they didn’t get the right number of eyeballs to look at them.

Futurama had a bumpier transition to cable than others. Originally on Fox’s comedy block in 1999, it was canceled in 2003. In 2006, Comedy Central acquired the rights and created a series of new movies and in 2010, decided to bring it back to full series, which débuted last night.

The simple fact is that network television is a tougher market to succeed in because they’re more reliant on advertising revenues. Not only do you need millions of viewers to tune in every week, you also need to churn out as many as 24 episodes a year. The two demands place an immense stress on even the most talented of writing staffs.

The complicated jigsaw puzzle of network programming isn’t new; shows have been jumping from network to network since the days of Leave it to Beaver and Get Smart. However, finding new life on cable is a growing trend–if not in actuality, then hypothetically, thanks to the blogosphere and Internet. There are comment sections that exist purely for viewers to muse over which network shows would perform best on cable channels.

Among the most notable moves was Cougar Town, shifting from ABC to TBS in early 2013. Compared to ABC’s demand for high ratings, its performance on TBS was robust enough for it to be considered an accomplished transition. Despite its strong promotional campaign, the show’s numbers dipped slightly on TBS, but not enough to hamper its perceived success.

futurama

Not all shows can be resurrected on cable, though. This past season, ABC’s Happy Endings was clearly going to get the chop, and when it did, all eyes were on USA Network – would they pick it up? Would TBS? It’s starting to become a ‘well if a network cancels it, it’d be perfect on this cable station’ situation. Unfortunately, USA passed on the show, as did its parent network, NBC.

Networks, particularly NBC, have fallen on hard times recently. As Josef Adalian say’s in his Vulture article, “many smart… executives have tried to cure the Peacock patient over the last decade, and so far, they’ve all failed.”

In 2008, the cop drama Southland premiered and like so many dramas that came before it, ratings were low and the audience wasn’t there. It was canceled after the first season. Enter TNT: a cable channel that knows its audience and swooped in to save the drama. Southland went on to air for four more seasons, enjoying steady growth in ratings and viewers throughout that time.

Networks can still house some fantastic comedy - 30 Rock, The Simpsons, Parks & Recreation, How I Met Your Motherhowever, cable offers a reprieve from the cut-throat world of trying to launch a comedy on a network. With a larger offering for a more diverse demographic, viewers can definitely find a show that appeals to them on their cable stations, more so than on a network.

Navigating the world one dish at a time, leather jacket-clad traveler and TV personality Anthony Bourdain has become somewhat of a poster-child for finding authentic eating experiences abroad.

On an episode of his travel show No Reservations, the foodie visited Hong Kong, a culinary hub teeming with traditional and non-traditional dishes.

"In Hong Kong you don't take the tour bus to find good food," Bourdain said. "You don't need to know where you're going, you just press start."

Hong Kong is made up of a set of islands in the South China Sea.

Over 7 million people live in an area that's just a quarter the size of New York City.

Bourdain began his visit to Hong Kong at the Four Seasons Clay Pot Restaurant on Temple Street in Kowloon, where he met up with Josh Tse, a Hong Kong based food blogger.

Film producer Megan Ellison, the daughter of billionaire tech mogul Larry Ellison, has purchased a $2.8 million apartment at the Police Building in Lower Manhattan, according to On-Line Residential.

Ellison, whose production and distribution company Annapurna Pictures, produced director Kathryn Bigelow’s Oscar-nominated epic “Zero Dark Thirty,” bought the penthouse at the former New York Police Department headquarters at 240 Centre Street in a deal that closed two weeks ago.

The Corcoran Group’s Tom Cooper and Elizabeth LaGrua represented Ellison in the deal, while brothers Pini Azulay and Arik Azulay of the newly-created boutique real estate firm the Azulay Group represented the California-based seller. The brothers were at real estate firm NOVO when the deal closed.

Pini Azulay told The Real Deal that Ellison had viewed the property only once before submitting an offer just one hour later by phone. The property had come on the market five days earlier with a $2.9 million price tag. Ellison, also based in California, will use the property as a pied-à-terre when she is in town.

“She knew what she was looking for,” Pini Azulay said. “She was looking for something very unique and you’re not going to find any other apartment like this in New York.”

Cooper and LaGrua declined to comment.

Indeed, the apartment, formerly the radio room of the police headquarters, which dates back to 1907, has some interesting features, including a partially domed ceiling supported by exposed steel arches. The 1,750-square-foot spread has one bedroom and one bathroom, according to the listing.

Ellison’s father is the CEO of software company Oracle and is one of the richest men in the world, according to recent reports.

The Most Jaw-Dropping Scenes In Miley Cyrus' Racy New Music Video

Miley Cyrus Video doll swimming pool

Yesterday, Miley Cyrus debuted her latest music video for her new single "We Can't Stop."

It's a catchy tune and we actually kind of like it, but the Diane Martel-directed, 3-minute video is a pretty big departure for Cyrus, a former Disney star.

There is no trace of "Hannah Montana" here, just a rebellious 20-year-old twerking, skinny dipping and grinding her groove thing all over the place in a teeny tiny leotard.

Cyrus' latest spiked-hair look isn't anything new to the over 12 million people who follow her photos on Twitter, but her latest music video isn't just racy for a Disney star  it's surprising for any 20-year-old.

The video is introduced with Miley cutting off an ankle monitor.

She then puts in her grill.

This guy eats a sandwich stuffed with dollar bills.

North. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have named their child North

North West.

"According to the birth certificate from Cedars-Sinai hospital," reports TMZ.

Why? Because why not that's why. When your lives revolve around being famous for being famous and being the center of attention, that's going to carry over to your baby's name.

We're not really surprised by this, even though there was speculation that little North West's name might have followed in the Kardashian tradition and started with the letter "K"

Alas, that was not to be and there is a good lifetime of puns to be made. Lets just get a few of them out of the way now shall we.

If little North ever launches her own fragrance, she can call it "North, by North West."

The reboot of the classic Hitchcock movie "North By North West" is rumored to be starring North West.

Ad nauseam.

Better get used to it folks, because this isn't going to go away anytime soon.

EXPERT: Michael Jackson Was The Only Person Ever To Go 60 Days Without 'Real Sleep'

$

Michael Jackson

On Thursday a sleep expert testified that Michael Jackson is the only human he's ever heard of to go two months without Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep, Alan Duke of CNN reports.

REM sleep is vital to keep the brain and body alive.

Dr. Conrad Murray gave Jackson infusions of Propofol, an anesthetic used during surgery, to treat the superstar's insomnia for 60 straight days before the 50-year-old died of an overdose of the drug on June 25, 2009.

Sleep expert Dr. Charles Czeisler, a Harvard Medical School sleep expert testifying at the wrongful death trial of concert promoter AEG Live, explained that Propofol offers no REM sleep, despite leaving the patient feeling refreshed as if they had experienced genuine sleep.

Czeisler — a sleep consultant to NASA, the CIA, and the Rolling Stones — said no one had ever undergone such a treatment.

He added that the lack of REM sleep may have soon killed The King of Pop anyway, noting that lab rats die after five weeks of getting no REM sleep.

"It would be like eating some sort of cellulose pellets instead of dinner," Czeisler said. "Your stomach would be full and you would not be hungry, but it would be zero calories and not fulfill any of your nutrition needs."

Jackson, the most successful entertainer of all time, was preparing for an epic concert run.

Czeisler told the court that people who are deprived of REM sleep for long periods become paranoid, anxiety-filled, depressed, unable to learn, distracted, sloppy.

He added that they lose their balance and appetite, their physical reflexes get 10 times slower, and their emotional responses 10 times stronger.

Duke notes that those symptoms are very similar to "descriptions of Jackson in his last weeks as described in e-mails from show producers and testimony by witnesses in the trial."

5 Hit Movies Critics Thought Would Flop At Theaters

$
0
0

world war z brad pitt

The highly anticipated premiere of Brad Pitt’s "World War Z" is just a few days away, but critics have been salivating for months about what a disaster it will be — long before anyone had seen any footage.

Hardly the first film with advance reports of onset complications, bloated budgets, and release delays, "World War Z" is only the latest victim of the Hollywood press’ eagerness to deem movies dead in the water before they’ve had the chance to set sail.

Yet World "War Z" is sitting with a very healthy 80% Fresh rating on RottenTomatoes.com, with critics from "Variety" to "The Hollywood Reporter" reporting that the film is “surprisingly smart” and an “immersive apocalyptic spectacle.” From a purely filmmaking point of view, the film is already a success.

For every "Heaven’s Gate" and "Cutthroat Island," which bankrupted United Artists and Carolco Pictures respectively, there are a slew of classic films that refused to believe their hype, or lack thereof. We take a look at five of our favorite would-be disasters.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961)

Grumblings began early on when Truman Capote screeched to anyone who would listen that “Paramount double-crossed me in every way and cast Audrey!”

After Capote’s first pick, Marilyn Monroe, declined the part, Hepburn came on board with one condition—a director switch from then unknown John Frankenheimer to Blake Edwards, signaling another potential red flag. (Ultimately it’s Edwards who has been credited with turning the perfectly lovely story into a genre-defining classic.)

Fortunately, one seriously considered change was never made: when a Paramount exec insisted on cutting “Moon River” at the last minute, Hepburn—for whose limited range Henry Mancini had written the tune—reportedly fumed, “Over my dead body!”

Cleopatra (1963)

While it was an indisputably difficult set—during the two-year production, Elizabeth Taylor fell ill enough to require a tracheotomy and shut down filming for several months, her very public affair with costar Richard Burton turned the $44 million shoot into even more of a circus, and a swift backlash encircled the set almost before the cameras began rolling — "Cleopatra" is not the financial or critical disaster it’s historically made out to be.

Ranked the 38th-highest grossing movie of all time, with appropriate adjustments for inflation, it’s made more money than any of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" or Lord of the Rings" movies — not to mention four Academy Awards.

Star Wars (1977)

The odyssey that was getting George Lucas’ saga to screen is almost as epic as the series itself, but what’s perhaps most compelling is how its cast and the crew openly psyched themselves out before "Star Wars" was ever released.

Alec Guinness said it was his idea to kill his character off so that he “wouldn’t have to carry on saying these rubbish lines,” the crew repeatedly expressed concerns that the film felt too much like a bad kiddie flick, and Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford were visibly unenthusiastic in promotional interviews.

But what was most potentially damaging? Lucas was so worried about what his box-office returns might be that he ran off to Hawaii on opening weekend with Steven Spielberg. Instead of attending the premiere, the two sat on the beach and conceived "Raiders of the Lost Ark."

Probably not a bad call.
