Like Kanye West (says of himself), actor/singer/designer Justin Timberlake has been known as a trendsetter in the music world.

But the cover art for his latest single "Tunnel Vision" is leaving fans scratching their heads.

The art in question features Timberlake's face in the shape of a woman's silhouette.

But in order to make his face fit the shape of the female body, his nose is turned into a breast. The result is that it looks like Timberlake has a strange growth on his nose.

Judge for yourself below:

"Tunnel Vision" is the third single off Timberlake's comeback album "The 20/20 Experience," following "Suit & Tie" and "Mirrors."

STEVEN SPIELBERG: The Movie Industry Is About To Implode

$

spock star trek into darknessSteven Spielberg and George Lucas made some startling comments at USC yesterday, David Cohen of Variety reports.

The two movie moguls said the movie industry is about to implode.

What's happening, Spielberg and Lucas said, is that Hollywood is betting ever more heavily on a handful of massive-budget general-interest blockbusters each year, while losing the regular movie-going audience to the Internet and TV.

And soon, Spielberg predicted, some of these humongous bets will blow up, demolishing the industry:

“They’re  going for the gold,” said Lucas of the studios. “But that isn’t going to work forever. And as a result they’re getting narrower and narrower in their focus. People are going to get tired of it. They’re not going to know how to do anything else.”

Spielberg noted that because so many forms of entertainment are competing for attention, [the studios] would rather spend $250 million on a single film than make several personal, quirky projects.

“There’s eventually going to be a big meltdown,” Spielberg said. “There’s going to be an implosion where three or four or maybe even a half-dozen of these mega-budgeted movies go crashing into the ground and that’s going to change the paradigm again.”

Lucas predicts that the movie-theater industry will soon evolve into something like Broadway, where huge blockbuster movies are shown for long periods on huge screens and tickets cost fantastic amounts of money:

Lucas predicted that after that meltdown, “You’re going to end up with fewer theaters, bigger theaters with a lot of nice things. Going to the movies will cost 50 bucks or 100 or 150 bucks, like what Broadway costs today, or a football game. It’ll be an expensive thing. … (The movies) will sit in the theaters for a year, like a Broadway show does. That will be called the ‘movie’ business.”

“There’ll be big movies on a big screen, and it’ll cost them a lot of money. Everything else will be on a small screen. It’s almost that way now. ‘Lincoln’ and ‘Red Tails’ barely got into theaters. You’re talking about Steven Spielberg and George Lucas can’t get their movies into theaters.”

So that's the future of the movie industry, according to two of the most successful directors and producers in history.

But don't go crying for Hollywood. There's still plenty of money in making movies and series for smaller screens. And the proliferation of on-demand services over the Internet is making these movies and series easier to see than ever.

And don't go crying for consumers, either. The quicker the traditional movie industry breaks down, the quicker you'll be able to see the movies you want to watch be available on your own personal screens--instead of having to schlep to a dirty cramped theater, paying through the nose, and then having an obstructed or sideways view.

HGTV fans are outraged over the home design channel's latest decorating tip of spicing up dining room decor by using an American flag as a tablecloth. Even after the company issued a Facebook apology, consumers are still raging.

Consumers flooded the network's Facebook page with negative comments after reading HGTV's suggestion to "Drape a large American flag over the table as a bright and festive table runner. Use a nylon flag so spills can be easily wiped off and the flag can later be hung with pride on a flag pole.”

People were stunned.

And disgusted.

Maybe HGTV just didn't get flag etiquette.

Is HGTV just "stupid?"

Either way, people were not having it.

So HGTV did what companies need to do in times of a social media crisis. It issued a Facebook apology post.

Others that did are demanding more. Namely, punishment. HGTV hasn't said whether any staff were disciplined:

Kanye West Went On Another Rant Comparing Himself To Steve Jobs Last Night

Kanye West Art Basel SwitzerlandOne may think Kanye West would want to refrain from speaking publicly for a few hours after his ridiculous New York Times interview Wednesday in which he likened himself to “the Michael Jordan of music” and “the downtown Steve Jobs.”

But as he stated in that interview, Kanye doesn't have regrets and thus, kept on talking during a secret listening party in anticipation of his new album “Yeezus” Wednesday night at the design fair during the annual Art Basel Fair in Basel, Switzerland.

The Daily Beast's Isabel Wilkinson was among the “throngs of well-dressed art collectors and dealers, socialites, and fashion folk” in the audience and has excerpted West's “lengthy introduction to the session.”

In true Kanye form, the rapper greeted his anxious listeners by again comparing himself to Steve Jobs:

Maybe it would be cool to play my album tonight, as it comes out on the 18th of June … I feel almost like Steve Jobs giving one of those addresses right now.”

Wilkinson writes that Kanye continued with “a meandering but thoughtful speech clearly intended to connect him to the art world and this art-loving audience.”

Here are some of Kanye's most ridiculous gems from his latest rant:

  1. “[I hate YouTube because] the player is so ugly, and it’s presented in such a terrible manner. I want everything I do to be presented in an art context.”
  2.  I have been in art school since I was 5 years old. I got scholarships to three art schools — and I dropped out because ... when I looked at my work, I just felt that I would never be one of the great visual artists of the world. I just felt like I would end up like — and this is no knock to anybody that does this — but I felt like I would end up working at an ad agency or something like that.
  3. “It’s very similar to the way Warhol would appropriate a Campbell’s Soup can is the way I would sonically appropriate a Ray Charles sample or a Michael Jackson sample.”
  4. “Right now it’s a fight against the separation and constant dumbing-down of culture, and I’m standing in the middle of it.”
  5. “So when I used to go to fashion shows with my boys and we’d be eight deep, it was almost like a civil rights, like a sit-in. They wouldn’t even let us in.”
  6. “I fight in my position of being a very commercial celebrity boyfriend, I fight to push culture forward every chance I get.”
  7. “I only frown because paparazzi ask me dumba-- s--- all the time, and I think about changing the world.”

West went on to play “songs from his new album off his laptop, engaging only once in an a capella version of the song 'New Slaves,'” reports The Beast. “He danced rhythmically — at times, as if he were alone in his own studio ... The first track was a collaboration with Daft Punk. He also played 'Black Skinheads' and several other tracks that had the crowd practically trampling each other.”

Wilkinson shared  a few more exclusive photos with us from last night's listening party:

eva green 300 rise of an empire

The first trailer for "300: Rise of an Empire" — the long-awaited sequel to the 2006 epic — is here.

This time Noam Murro steps in as director as Zack Snyder takes to producer and writer. Snyder has his hands full with the "Man of Steel" franchise at Warner Bros.

Murro doesn't have a lot of credits to his name with his last film being 2008's "Smart People."

The film stars Eva Green ("Casino Royale") as Persian Queen Artemisia going to war with the Greeks led by general Themistocles (Sullivan Stapleton).

The first trailer is full of ships, explosions, sword fights, arrows, and plenty of death, but no outright scene that has us screaming "madness."

"300: Rise of an Empire" comes to theaters next March.

New York Will Likely Ban Underage Models In Fashion Shoots Featuring Nudity

ondria hardin

New York state legislators are on track to pass a law before Fashion Week in September regulating work conditions for under-age models.

The new rules would ban nudity on sets, and require models be allowed to eat, according to Women's E-News:

If it passes, all New York Fashion Week shows and local magazine shoots there would require such things as chaperones on set, tutors on set, consent forms for nudity, no 16-plus-hour days and access to food.

The new law will be a culture shock in the fashion world, which has a long troubling history of using underage girls in nude or inappropriately sexual photo shoots.

Vogue, for instance, has repeatedly used the 15-year-old Ondria Hardin in shoots despite promising not use girls under 16 as models. Prada used Hardin in a "sexy" ad when she was just 13.

The fashion business has voluntary guidelines banning the use of under-16s on runways, but models and agents have been known to lie about girls' ages to get work. And 87% of models have been subjected to a surprise request for nudity during a photo session.

The law's sponsors have proposed a fine of $1,000 per violation.

Superman's Fortress of Solitude Would Cost $800 Trillion

$

superman christopher reeve

This week, Superman makes his way back to the big screen in Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel”, a much needed reboot of the Superman story for the big screen. If you’re a frequent reader of the Movoto blog, you’ll know we were champing at the bit to find a way to tie the film into real estate. Thankfully we have a Superman expert on the team: yours truly.

There are many things that have fascinated me about the Superman mythos, but one that always stuck out in my mind was the Fortress of Solitude. My younger self imagined the massive structure as Superman’s giant playhouse. Now that I’m older, part of me still thinks of it as such. Because of this, I thought it was fitting to write one of our fictional evaluations on the Fortress of Solitude. After suiting up in my best Kryptonian armor, I set out to battle the Man of Steel’s house of crystal.

What did I find out? By my estimates, the Superman’s colossal fortress would be worth more than $813 trillion. Yes, you read that correctly. If that piece of green Kryptonite didn’t scare you away, keep reading to figure out how I did it.

The Tools of Novelty Real Estate

Returning readers know this part by now. It’s like a superhero origin story, even. To write a fictional evaluation, I usually need a property’s size, location, and comparable properties. Only this time I tried something new. Think of this as my own novelty real estate reboot. Instead of my standard three criteria, I needed to know two things:

  • What the Fortress of Solitude is made of
  • The Fortress of Solitude’s size

With these two pieces of information I was able to come up with an estimate for the value of the Fortress of Solitude. I should note, however, that the price doesn’t include all the multitude of zany rooms that have appeared in the Fortress. (Who has a replica of their office in their crash pad?)

But before I get to the heart of the matter, you’ll need a brief history lesson. I promise no fanboys were hurt in the making of this abridged history.

Fortress of Solitude: Better Than a Couch Fort

fortress of solitude superman

As the name suggests, the Fortress of Solitude is a place for Superman to go in order to be alone (well, and also do scientific work). I like to think of it as Superman’s man cave—except on a massive scale. It also might be his bachelor pad; I can think of at least one female reporter who’d go gaga for a tour.

Like a list of Superman’s powers, the Fortress of Solitude has changed a lot since it was first introduced. Superman’s sort-of safe house (it has been broken into a number times) was first called the Secret Citadel. This version, introduced in Superman #17, was built into a mountain on the outskirts of Metropolis. A couple of years later, the Secret Citadel had morphed into a freestanding castle located in a “polar waste.” The first time that the Fortress is explicitly discussed is in Action Comics #241 in which, through the power of forgetfulness, it is once again located in a mountain near Metropolis.

I should also note something about the name itself. The name “Fortress of Solitude” originally appeared in Doc Savage pulps. In fact, an argument can be made that Superman’s creators essentially ripped off the idea. Old Doc’s Fortress was located in the Arctic and acted as a retreat for the mysterious man.

When it came time to make a decision for which version of the Fortress to use, I decided to go with the one located in the Arctic. I thought this version was the most well known. With this out of the way, I needed to find what material comprised the Fortress.

What is the Fortress of Solitude Made Of?

smallville fortress of solitude

Most—but not all—versions of the Fortress of Solitude are constructed out of a Kryptonian crystalline material known a sunstone. Since there are no Kryptonian crystals in the real world, I needed to pick a substance as a stand-in. Some common crystals are: diamonds, salt, and snowflakes.

I can tell you right now that Superman doesn’t have a citadel made from salt or snowflakes.

I’ve never purchased an engagement ring, but based on the sheer amount of stuff you need to know before you buy a diamond, I might never get engaged. In other words, without Kryptonian diamonds handy, I went with the kind that is actually found on Earth.

How Big Is the Fortress of Solitude?

christopher reeve superman

To figure out the Fortress of Solitude’s size, I first found Supe’s height and used this to calculate the dimensions of ice-cold crib. According the DC Comics Wiki, Superman is 6’3”. Once I knew his height, I found an image of him standing in front of the Fortress of Solitude and was able to estimate its height. I estimated that the Fortress of Solitude is roughly 7,065,000 cubic feet with a surface area of 141,300 square feet. (Talk about a fortress! Even Superman probably gets lost in this thing. His voice has to echo forever.)

To come up with this number, I made a number of guesses. As I mentioned earlier, depending on what version of the Fortress of Solitude we are talking about, the size would be vastly different. I chose the newest iteration of the Fortress of Solitude, which is dome-like.

Using Superman’s height, I was able to estimate the dimensions of the dome. Essentially, I found the volume of a sphere and then cut it in half. The same goes for the surface area of the structure.

How Much Is A Crystal Palace Worth?
 fortress of solitude smallville

The answer to this question is basically a crap load. I’m joking some here, but this is where things get really bonkers—not that a flying man in tights living in a crystal palace isn’t bonkers. I wanted to know how much diamond it would take to build Superman’s digs. This turned out to be more difficult than I imagined. To come up with my figure, I found the size of the world’s largest uncut diamond.

The Cullinan Diamond, discovered in 1905, is the largest diamond on record. It came in at 4 inches by 2.5 inches by 2.12 inches.

How does this help me figure out the cost of Superman’s shiny super-shack?

My basic assumption is the outside of the Fortress of Solitude is covered with diamonds. You and I both know that Supes doesn’t have a leaky roof. So, if the entire crystal dome that Superman calls home is made up of crystal segments that are the size of the Cullinan Diamond, it would take 2,034,721 of them to cover it.

If you mind is blown, it should be.

The estimated value of the Cullinan Diamond is $400 million. Do you even want to know how much that would be? Our course you do. Here’s the price tag: $813,888,400,000,000.

That’s more than 813 trillion dollars. It doesn’t even include the price of all his rooms and gadgets.

Superman might already be a good guy, but there’s one thing I’d really like him to do to be truly—flood the diamond market so I can afford that engagement ring.

Buy The Fortress of Solitude

Editor’s notes: Sunstone has many properties, the most famous of which is its ability to store information. I took this into account when I decided on what crystal to use in my evaluation. It turns out that, under the right circumstances, you can store information in fused quartz, which—as the name suggests—is quartz that is superheated into a glass-like substance. Once it is heated, however, it is no longer crystalline. Still, if you’d like to build the Fortress of Solitude out of quartz, one of the most abundant minerals on Earth, you’d expect to pay handsomely as well–$21,159,015, which is a very conservative estimate.

Rupert Murdoch Has Filed For Divorce From Wendi Deng

murdoch wendi dengNews Corp CEO Rupert Murdoch has filed for divorce from wife Wendi Deng.

Deadline Hollywood was the first to break the news, and News Corp has since confirmed it.

The decision to file for divorce happened "very quickly," Deadline reports. Rumors of marriage trouble have been circulating for months.

A source told Deadline in February that Deng "was snippy with [Murdoch] during Oscar weekend, and she’s really impatient with him these days.”

A News Corp spokeswoman told The New York Times that the "relationship between husband and wife has broken down irretrievably." The newspaper also reported that Deng was told about Murdoch's decision before the papers were filed.

Murdoch married Deng in 1999, weeks after he divorced former wife Anna Torv. Deng started at News Corp as an intern at Star TV. We have more information about her here.

The couple has two daughters, 11-year-old Grace and 9-year-old Chloe. Murdoch is 82 years old and Deng is 44. Deng is the chief of strategy for MySpace's operations in China, according to The Daily Beast.

Deng made headlines in 2011 when she slapped someone who accosted Murdoch during a hearing on the phone hacking scandal.

Rupert Murdoch just announced he is divorcing his wife Wendi Deng after 14 years of marriage.

The news made us think of that epic moment when Murdoch was testifying before a British Parliament committee about the News of the World phone hacking scandal when all of a sudden a man with a plate of shaving cream pie headed straight for the News Corp CEO.

Deng quickly intervened and forcefully attacked the man — swatting the pie out of his hands — before he could reach her husband.

The Telegraph's Jame Kirkup was in the room at the time and wrote of the incident:

"First, she swung a slap at her husband’s attacker. She followed up by picking up the plate and trying to strike him with it. And then she moved back to her husband. Sitting on the table before him, she started to clear the foam from his face, sometimes embracing him, holding his bald head in her arms."

No one can say she didn't have her husband's back. You go, Wendi.

The Crazy Story Of How Wendi Deng And Rupert Murdoch Got Together

$
0
0

rupert murdoch wendi deng

News Corp CEO Rupert Murdoch just filed to end his 14-year marriage to Wendi Deng, a woman 38 years his junior.

The pair met in 1997 in China, where Deng is from. She started as an intern at News Corp-owned Star TV, and caught Murdoch's eye during a staff meeting in Hong Kong when she asked an intelligent question and approached him after the meeting, according to New York Magazine.

After that, in 1998, Deng worked as Murdoch's interpreter when he was in Shanghai and Beijing, according to The Wall Street Journal.

By that summer, there were rumors circulating at Star TV that the two were having an affair. In May, Murdoch separated from his then-wife of 31 years, Anna Torv, who, according to New York Magazine, suspected that Murdoch "had a girlfriend."

Murdoch said he didn't start seeing Deng romantically until after he separated from Torv, but Torv insists that's a lie, according to New York Magazine.

In the fall of 1998, Murdoch informed top Star TV executives of his relationship with Deng. She then resigned from her job at Star TV and moved to New York with Murdoch.

Murdoch's divorce from Torv became final in June 1999 (it cost him $1.7 billion), and he married Deng on his yacht 17 days later.

If Deng was a factor in Murdoch's divorce from Torv, it wouldn't be the first time she was accused of breaking up a marriage.

In its 2000 profile of Deng, The Wall Street Journal reported that she was previously married to Jake Cherry, a man 30 years her senior. He and his wife Joyce, who were from L.A., met Deng in China in 1987 when they were there for work. Deng was looking for someone to tutor her in English, and Joyce took on the job.

Joyce eventually moved back to L.A., while Jake stayed in China to finish a factory project, according to the Wall Street Journal profile. Deng reportedly told them she wanted to come to the U.S. for school, and needed sponsors. Jake and Joyce helped Deng get a student visa and allowed her to live with them while she got acclimated in L.A.

But Joyce eventually grew suspicious of Deng's relationship with Jake, according to the Wall Street Journal. She found "coquettish" photos Jake took of Deng in his Chinese hotel room, and Jake admitted that he had become infatuated with Deng.

The couple divorced, and Jake moved into an apartment with Deng. The two married in 1990, and the union lasted two years and seven months, enough time to get Deng a green card, the Wall Street Journal reported. The marriage might have, for all intents and purposes, been over long before the divorce became final — Jake claims that he told Deng to move out four months after they got married.

'Despicable Me 2' May Be The Best Film To Take Your Kids To This Summer

despicable me 2Disney and Pixar are releasing their big, anticipated "Monsters Inc." prequel next week.

However, it may be another 'quel' you want to take the kids out to this summer.

Audiences went crazy over the first screening of "Despicable Me 2" at the Annecy Animation Festival in France.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the showing received a standing ovation along with cheers after the film ended.

THR described just how enthusiastic people are about the return of Steve Carell as Gru and his adorable, though mischievous, yellow minions:

"The crowd was palpably delighted throughout the screening, even singing along to the songs in the closing scene, and the party atmosphere carried over into cheers and wild applause as the credits rolled."

Meanwhile, Disney and Pixar's "Monsters University" is receiving good early buzz.

However early reviews have noted Pixar may be losing its touch when it comes to sequels, and now prequels. (Plus, it sounds like it's just like "The Internship.")

Right now, BoxOffice.com is projecting "Monsters University" to open to $80 million with "Despicable Me 2" not far behind with $76 million.

It may be Illumination Entertainment's "Despicable Me" sequel that explodes during the Fourth of July holiday weekend as its social media buzz is surpassing that of previous comparable summer hits "Ice Age: Continental Drift" and "Toy Story 3."

"Despicable Me 2" opens in theaters July 3.

Here's What Happened The Last Time Rupert Murdoch Got Divorced

$
0
0

Murdochs

Divorce is nothing new for Rupert Murdoch, who is officially divorcing current wife Wendi Deng after 14 years.

His first divorce was from Patricia Booker, a former flight attendant from Melbourne. The pair were married for 11 years and had a daughter before their 1966 divorce, according to the International Business Times.

A year later, Murdoch married Anna Murdoch Mann (née Torv), a Scottish journalist with who he had three children.

He divorced Anna in 1999, weeks before his wedding to Wendi Deng, who he met when she was an intern at a television station owned by News Corp

Details are still sparse on Murdoch and Deng's separation. But the story of Murdoch's divorce from Torv  which cost him a reported $1.7 billion  could be instructive.

First, how the pair met: Torv was 18 years old and working for Murdoch's Sydney newspaper The Daily Telegraph when she had the opportunity to interview Murdoch. They fell for each other, according to Australian Women's Weekly, and the pair were married in 1967, shortly after Murdoch split from his first wife.

Murdoch and Torv appeared to have a good, solid marriage for 31 years. They had three children together, and Torv had a career as a novelist.

But, according to Steve Fishman in New York Magazine, Anna wanted Rupert to quit his job and retire with her, which Murdoch believed would kill him.

So in 1998 they agreed to an "amicable" separation, first reported by New York Post columnist Liz Smith. It was so amicable that Anna remained on New Corp's board.

However, Anna reportedly grew suspicious that Murdoch had a girlfriend. And while Murdoch insists that he did not become romantically involved with the bright and beautiful Wendi Deng until after their separation, the two married just 17 days after Torv and Murdoch's divorce was finalized.

Six months after their separation, Murdoch reportedly forced Torv off News Corp's board, according to Australian Women's Weekly. "Anna's support has been enormously helpful to me in what I must admit is a demanding and turbulent career," Murdoch said in the News Corp annual report.

Torv formally resigned in person, and left the office to have lunch with a "charming" Wall Street financier named William Mann, her future husband.

Murdoch and Torv officially filed for divorce soon after. California, the couple's home state, is a community-property state, meaning Anna could have walked away with half of Murdoch's fortune, which was then valued at $7.8 billion, according to New York Magazine (Forbes estimates he's worth $11.2 billion today).

Still, Torv is rumored to have won $1.7 billion in assets, $110 million of which was in cash, according to ABC News. If that figure is accurate, it would have been the most expensive divorce of all time.

Both Murdoch and Torv quickly remarried after their divorce was finalized in 1999: Rupert to Wendi Deng 17 days later on a yacht, and Anna to William Mann six months later.

Torv kept quiet about the divorce for two years until 2001, when she opened up to Australian Women's Weekly about her divorce with Murdoch, saying he had ruined the marriage by his alleged affair with then-translator Deng. "I thought we had a wonderful, happy marriage," she confessed to writer David Leser.

"Obviously we didn't."

AL ROKER: 10 Things You Didn't Know About My Finances

Al Roker

Here at LearnVest, we don’t shy away from asking all those awkward and fascinating money questions. How much did that cost you? Do you have a big investment account? What’s a secret splurge you haven’t told anyone else about?

In our series, 10 Things You Don’t Know About My Finances, we get interesting people to reveal their funny, head-scratching, and refreshing approaches to finance.

For this installment, we sat down with Al Roker, beloved weather forecaster from NBC’s Today,  CEO of his own production and multimedia company, and lifelong New Yorker.

Read on to find out Roker’s first biggest splurge, his hoarding habits and what gives him a “perverse thrill” … don’t worry, it’s nothing you won’t want to try yourself.

1. I have huge jars of quarters that I’ve been collecting for over ten years. I used to collect them for tolls, parking meters, the laundromat, subway. Now everything’s becoming automated, so I still have jars and Ziploc bags of quarters everywhere. I keep some in my car, some in my briefcase. I have quarters everywhere.

2. My first big splurge was in 1976. I’d just gotten the weekday weather job in Syracuse, New York, when I was a junior in college. I bought a 1976 pencil yellow VW rabbit. I bought a standard because it was cheaper even though I didn’t know how to drive a standard. To me, having toilet paper is like having money in the bank.

3. I like to pay a little more for things that will last. Ten years ago I bought a pair of Allen Edmonds shoes. I still have them, because they refurbish them for free, and they’re the most comfortable shoes.

4. My Dad believed in paying with cash. For business expenses, you have to use a credit card, but I try to pay in cash whenever I can. I find it fascinating when people use their debit card for groceries.

5. I’m a big believer in hoarding staples. You should have at least two big things of toilet paper and paper towels. To me, having toilet paper is like having money in the bank … it doesn’t go bad, and you can always use it.

6. I splurge on food, on groceries. There’s that joke that Whole Foods is more like Whole Paycheck. But there’s a discernible difference. I would rather have a smaller amount of really good food than a lot of okay food. My favorite splurges are rack of lamb, Chilean sea bass and organic produce.

7. I like mass transit. I get a perverse thrill from taking the subway downtown for $2.50—and no one can bother me by calling my cell when I’m on the train. People come up and ask me, “Why are you taking the subway? Why don’t you take a cab?” I was taking the subway before some of them were even born!

8. You never know when your career is going into the toilet, so I’m always cognizant of how I was raised. I was a lower-middle class kid. My dad was a bus driver and worked his way up into management for the transit authority. I take a lot of pride in the fact that we drive a minivan, that we go to the early movie to get a better price.

9. If I have a weakness, it’s that I’m an early adopter of technology. I had a Sony Mavica digital camera, a Casio boss, which was a precursor to a PDA, and an Apple Newton, which was the earliest version of the iPad. When the iPad2 came out, I ordered online right away—I don’t like standing in lines.Online means I don’t have to stand in line.

10. Even though New York is expensive, I don’t plan on moving away. I love Chicago, Seattle and Portland, but this is where I grew up; I like it here. You can eat really well, you can do a lot for cheap or free in New York. My favorite inexpensive things to do in the city are taking the Roosevelt Island tram, and taking the subway out to Coney Island, out to the aquarium. Or just walking through Central Park—there’s always something to see. The other day I saw a guy running and juggling. The depressing thing was that he was running far faster than me.
