'Breaking Bad' star Aaron Paul paid his bills for 2 years with this extremely bizarre ad

Aaron Paul revealed that he lived off the payments from one commercial for nearly two years.

On Tuesday's "Conan," the former "Breaking Bad" star who played Jesse Pinkman said that he did a lot of commercials early in his career in order to pay the bills. But one commercial floated Paul for a long while.

"One of the earliest [commercials] you did that made a big change for you, because you got paid, was an ad for Juicy Fruit gum," host Conan O'Brien said.

"Yes, that paid all my bills for almost two years," Paul said.

He then explained how he managed to make so much money on a single commercial, and how it also served as motivation to take his career to the next level.

"It was one commercial, but it had no dialogue in it. So they were able to sell the commercial to multiple countries. And so, I would get residuals every 13 weeks. When they stopped playing that commercial, it was such a loud reality check. 'Oh my God, I need to get a job,'" the actor, who's now on Hulu's "The Path," said.

The Juicy Fruit commercial, it should be noted, is very strange. There's some mind control happening in a clinical setting, then clothes go flying — all over gum.

"It is a weird ad," O'Brien said.

"Yeah, my pants fly off," Paul replied.

These are the worst-reviewed actors and actresses of all time

deuce bigalow rob schneider

Some actors are just bad at choosing movies, or in some cases have fallen out of touch with their fan bases. At least, that’s how critics feel.

To show just how badly critics score certain actors and actresses, Vox put together a ranking of the all-time worst.

The data comes from Metacritic, which aggregates reviews from major outlets and gives movies a score of 0-100.

According to the data, the top 5 worst actors on the planet are:

1. Rob Schneider
2. Adam Sandler
3. Ashton Kutcher
4. Kevin James
5. Taylor Lautner

And the top 5 worst actresses are:

1. Jennifer Love Hewitt
2. Jessica Alba
3. Katherine Heigl
4. Denise Richards
5. Alicia Silverstone

A few takeaways from the list: On the actor side, Sandler’s decline in box-office hits since his peak in the 1990s has hurt his friends like Schneider and James, who are in the top five with him.

And on both the actor and actress side, the names here star heavily in action movies or romantic comedies, which often aren’t praised by critics.

So, if you looked at lifetime box office, the actors would rank a little better.

Katy Perry is expected to buy a Catholic convent against nuns' wishes for $14.5 million

katy perryIt looks like Katy Perry is finally free to buy a Catholic convent in California.

Los Angeles' Catholic archbishop had hoped to sell the multimillion-dollar property to the pop star, but nuns objected, leading to a legal dispute.

But Perry's attorney said the judge in the case has indicated that she'll side with the archbishop, BuzzFeed reports.

“Subject to our receiving the written order, we are very pleased with the judge’s description of her ruling this morning, which indicates that we won the real property issues, clearing the way for our client to buy the property at issue,” the attorney, Eric Rowen, told BuzzFeed News.

Nuns had wanted to sell the convent to a local businesswoman for a hotel and restaurant project for $15.5 million, arguing the property had been bequeathed to them. But the archbishop said only the Church had the right to sell, and a judge voided the sale.

The Church plans to sell the eight-acre property to Perry for $14.5 million.

A lot of today's biggest blockbusters rely heavily on CGI, such as "The Jungle Book," which created an entire rainforest out of thin air. That's why it's refreshing to the see that the upcoming "Captain America: Civil War" uses so many practical effects.

"Captain America: Civil War" comes to theaters on May 6th.

Sony is making an animated movie about emoji, and some smartphone apps will be integrated into the plot.

During Sony's CinemaCon presentation Tuesday, Sony Pictures Animation president Kristine Belson said real-world apps would be incorporated into the film, according to TheWrap.

For example, characters will "navigate boats on an actual stream to represent music streaming."

According to TheWrap, a studio insider said Spotify is the music-streaming service included in the film, though no representatives from Sony or Spotify immediately responded to TheWrap's request for comment.

Other apps have not been confirmed, but concept art for the film included Facebook.

Belson described the plot during CinemaCon: “Inside your phone, there’s a secret world — and we enter through the text app where we discover Emoji Valley, where the industrious emoji live and work.” They'll eventually make it to a home screen, “the world of the wallpaper,” and discover new app worlds.

The film is scheduled for release in 2017.

There have been several stories about the “gifts” Jared Leto sent to his “Suicide Squad” costars and his behavior on the set. But this one might be the nastiest.

While promoting the film at CinemaCon, the Oscar-winning actor told E! another example of the gifts he presented cast and crew, just as a way of getting them ready for how twisted his Joker was going to be.

“Don’t forget the anal beads and used condoms,” Leto told E! correspondent Marc Malkin, referring to the gifts.

When asked who he gave used condoms to, Leto said, “everyone.”

"I did a lot of things to create a dynamic to create an element of surprise, a spontaneity and to really break down any kind of walls that may be there," he said of the outrageous items he gifted. "The Joker is somebody who doesn't really respect things like personal space or boundaries."

When Will Smith was asked about the used condoms by Malkin, Smith’s response was, “That's when you know Jared has gone full Joker.”

We will finally see Leto as the Joker August 5, when “Suicide Squad” opens in theaters.

Musician Ringo Starr said on Wednesday he was canceling a performance planned for June in Cary, North Carolina, in protest of a state law decried as discriminatory against the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community.

"I'm sorry to disappoint my fans in the area, but we need to take a stand against this hatred," the former drummer for The Beatles said in a statement. "Spread peace and love."

Ringo Starr is joining other musicians who are canceling their performances in states with anti-LGBT laws. Bruce Springsteen recently refused to do a show in North Carolina because of the same law, and Canadian rocker Bryan Adams is skipping a date in Mississippi to protest its new law allowing religious groups and some private businesses to refuse service to gay couples.

The Grinch is coming back to the big screen.

During Universal's presentation at CinemaCon on Wednesday, the studio announced Benedict Cumberbatch ("Sherlock," "Star Trek Into Darkness") as the voice of the cruel character in the animated "The Grinch," a remake of the animated classic "How the Grinch Stole Christmas."

Illumination Entertainment CEO Chris Meledandri said Cumberbatch's voice exudes "comedic wickedness while embodying vulnerability," making him ideal for the latest adaptation of the Dr. Seuss story.

The movie, from Universal and Illumination Entertainment, is scheduled to hit theaters November 10, 2017, and will be directed by veteran animator Peter Candeland.

Cumberbatch is playing the titular character in Marvel's "Doctor Strange," out November 4, 2016.

'Bill & Ted' star confirms a third movie is finally happening — and it's coming soon

bill and ted orion pictures

For years, Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter have teased another movie in their “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure” series. Now according to Winter, who played Bill S. Preston in the movies, a third “Bill & Ted” is imminent.

“We’re working on the film every day at the moment in terms of the pre-prep-type work, so it’s an active project,” he recently told Forbes.

That sounds very similar to what we’ve heard in the past. But when asked if the production is looking at a start date this year, Winter answered, “Hopefully.” Though he noted it might possibly be next year.

To go on record that the sequel is nearing a start date is a very good sign.

In 1989, “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure,” which followed two friends embarking on a time-travel expedition to ace their high school history presentation, quickly became part of the popular lexicon with its dumb surfer talk and air-guitar celebrations. It was followed with the equally entertaining 1991 sequel “Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey,” in which the characters manage to reach both heaven and hell.

Since then, fans have wanted more, but Reeves, obviously, went on to become a huge movie star, and Winter found success behind the camera as a director and producer.

Winter confirmed that Reeves is still onboard for the third film, and also said that “we have a script, we have a director, we have a studio — we’re just trying to nail down a start date.”

So get ready Wild Stallions fans: More “Bill & Ted” fun is coming.

Seth Meyers: Donald Trump 'has only himself to blame' for failing to get Republican delegates

$

seth meyers donald trump delegates late night nbc

Donald Trump is accusing the Republican Party of fixing the election with its nominating system of delegates. But "Late Night" host Seth Meyers thinks Trump shouldn't be pointing fingers.

"Getting those delegates requires a strong organization on the ground," Meyers explained. "And so far, Trump has been very, very bad at this."

Trump is railing about Colorado Republicans' decision to cancel a typical presidential preference poll in favor of selecting delegates through caucuses. These delegates then cast their votes at the national party convention. In recent contests, Trump earned one delegate in North Dakota and zero delegates in Colorado.

"So Trump and his supporters are angry about the delegates, but Trump has only himself to blame," the host said. "His organization has proved incompetent when it comes to recruiting delegates, and he clearly lacks a basic understanding of the rules."

Recruiting delegates is important for two reasons. First, a candidate needs to get the required 1,237 delegate majority to be guaranteed the party nomination. And second, if no candidate gets to that threshold, then the process moves to a second vote (or contested convention). In that vote, delegates who were pledged to a candidate start becoming free to switch their votes. And that could mean the end of Trump's chances for president.

Meyers acknowledges that the rules are tricky, but he says Trump should be able to easily understand them. He then played a collection of clips of Trump explaining how intelligent he is.

"And yet in spite of his very good brain, Trump's campaign has made some of the dumbest mistakes possible in its delegate recruiting efforts," the host said. "For example, the state of Washington hasn't held its primary yet, but the campaign still needs to recruit people to serve as delegates there."

But the Trump campaign's Washington state campaign has been riddled with mistakes, including sending out an email looking for delegates that actually went to people in Washington, DC.

Still, there's one part of the complicated GOP delegate process at which Trump could excel, according to Meyers.

"Paying people off," he offered. "Because as it turns out, according to the rules, buying delegates might not be illegal. That's how crazy a contested convention could get."

In the competition for the coveted role of young Han Solo in the upcoming standalone movie about one of the most popular characters in the “Star Wars” universe, Alden Ehrenreich is the new frontrunner, according to Deadline

For months, reports have come out of the casting with fresh-faced names like Jack Reynor (“Transformers: Age of Extinction”) and Taron Egerton (“The Kingsman”) among the contenders.

But Ehrenreich is the one impressing directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (of “The Lego Movie” and “21 Jump Street” fame), sources with knowledge of the casting told Deadline.

hail caesar universalEhrenreich, 26, is quickly becoming a known commodity in Hollywood. He had a scene-stealing performance as good ol’ boy actor Hobie Doyle in the Coen brothers’ latest movie, “Hail, Caesar!” and he’ll next be in Warren Beatty’s untitled Howard Hughes project coming out later this year.

The Han Solo movie is scheduled to be released by Disney on May 25, 2018.

Disney and Ehrenreich’s reps would not comment regarding the casting process, according to Deadline.

Peter Jackson says the next big revolution in movie viewing 'is going to happen'

Peter Jackson Jonathan Leibson Getty

Peter Jackson doubled down on his backing of Sean Parker’s controversial Screening Room service — which plans to let consumers rent movies still in theaters from their homes for $50 — on Wednesday while at the launch party of Parker’s recently announced Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy.

“It is something that I believe in and something that is going to happen. It’s inevitable,” Jackson told The Hollywood Reporter of Screening Room and its model. “What we are trying to do is not make it scary and make everyone a winner in such a way that there is no fear involved and everyone comes out of it with a positive result.”

Jackson said that, at the moment, he’s investing more time than money in Screening Room, “helping with security advice,” a reference to Screening Room’s anti-piracy technology.

The Oscar-winning director also admitted that news of Screening Room was leaked, and the company has been playing catch-up to explain itself.

Sean Parker“We weren’t ready to roll it out as we were still working on it,” he told THR. “When people actually get to see it and view the presentation and hear what the security measures are, they will understand it a bit more.”

Some have speculated that Screening Room will present informally at CinemaCon in Las Vegas this week (it is not part of the official schedule).

Sean Parker and co. would have to be very convincing if they do present there. At CinemaCon, several studio heads have spoken out against Screening Room, including Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara.

“We are not going to let a third party of middlemen come between us,” Tsujihara said to a crowd of theater owners. “There are new technologies that could help our business. We’ll explore them with you together. We know the status quo is not an option, but we will meet the challenges before us as we always have.”

Taylor Swift says this might be her next business venture after music

taylor swift vogue cover

Taylor Swift is ready to relax and try her hand at some new ventures.

The 26-year-old singer announced in October that she would be taking a break from recording and touring following the conclusion of her 1989 World Tour.

In a new cover story for Vogue, the artist discussed her future plans, which may include a fashion line.

"Theoretically, yes," she said about the potential for her own fashion line. "But I would want it to be something that was relatable and accessible and everyday. I don't see it being couture. I would want it to be reflective of my style. And a lot of things I wear are not highly expensive."

Swift is cochairing the 2016 Met Gala, whose theme this year is "Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology."

Her style has evolved over the years, and she told Vogue, "I can look back at an old photo and tell you roughly what year it's from. Going through different phases is one of my favorite things about fashion. I love how it can mark the passage of time. It's similar to my songs in that way — it all helps identify where I was at in different points of my life."

The singer also discussed her "short-term goals," which include learning how to "make a good drink" and CPR so she can "save somebody if they're drowning."

But for those worried about her drifting away from music, fear not.

"I'm always going to be writing songs," Swift said. "The thing is, with me, I could very well come up with three things in the next two weeks and then jump back into the studio, and all of a sudden the next record is started. That's an option, too."

Amazon is creating a new TV show based on Bob Dylan songs (AMZN)

bob dylan

Amazon is producing a new TV series based on the lyrics of Bob Dylan songs, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal's Hannah Karp on Thursday.

The report says Amazon, in partnership with Lions Gate Entertainment, has won the rights to use any of the themes and characters found in Dylan's more than 600 songs for its upcoming TV series called "Time Out of Mind," named after the artist's 1997 album.

The shows will be written and produced by Josh Wakely, an Australian director who's also in charge of Netflix's Beatles-inspired series, "Beat Bugs," the report said.

It's unclear what exactly the show will be about as details on the show's characters and plot remain unknown. The WSJ report says the plot and characters will draw inspiration from Dylan's songs, with two songs likely being featured in every episode.

Amazon's deal with Dylan is the latest in the company's efforts to boost its video offerings.

Amazon's original TV series "Transparent" and "Mozart in the Jungle" have won Golden Globe awards recently, while the e-commerce business was the biggest spender at this year's Sundance Film Festival. Amazon is also expanding its videos to non-Prime members, as it released its first-ever ad-supported, free original TV show in February.

Amazon offers free live-streaming video to its Amazon Prime members, and has quickly become the second largest for-pay video streaming servicebehind Netflix in the US.

Some analysts estimate Amazon is spending billions of dollars on its video and music contents. The goal is to draw more people to Prime, Amazon's annual membership service that's comprised of more loyal and higher-spending users.

Although we don't know what the Dylan song-inspired shows will entail, it'll likely have political and social themes. Dylan's songs are known to have a lot of social and political implications, often expressed through very surreal lyrics.

Here's a taste:

"Subterranean Homesick Blues"

Johnny’s in the basement
Mixing up the medicine
I’m on the pavement
Thinking about the government

"Hurricane", which was about the unjust imprisonment of boxer Rubin Carter and was the basis for the 1999 movie starring Denzel Washington

How can the life of such a man
Be in the palm of some fool’s hand?
To see him obviously framed
Couldn’t help but make me feel ashamed to live in a land
Where justice is a game

"Idiot Wind"

Idiot wind, blowing through the flowers on your tomb
Blowing through the curtains in your room
Idiot wind, blowing every time you move your teeth
You’re an idiot, babe
It’s a wonder that you still know how to breathe

RANKED: The 23 most awe-inspiring uses of CGI in movies

Jungle Book

Since the late 1970s, computer-generated imagery, or CGI, has become one of Hollywood's most indispensable tools — particularly in the kind of enormous, spectacle-driven franchise film on which the industry increasingly relies.

Today, CGI can be found in almost everything you see on the big screen. A great example is "The Jungle Book," out this weekend, a live-action retelling of the classic 1967 Disney animated feature. It features eye-popping, realistic CGI animals that "man-cub" Mowgli encounters deep in the jungle.

But before "Jungle Book," there were movies that changed the way the whole medium was understood and wielded with CGI, and expanded the kinds of stories Hollywood can tell.

Here we rank the 23 best movies ever to use CGI (limited to live-action, rather than animated, movies).

SEE ALSO: Here's what "Game of Thrones" stars look like in real life, from the new season premiere

23. “The Black Hole” (1979)

This dark sci-fi fantasy scared the pants off kids in the late '70s, who thought they were going to a typical family-friendly Disney movie. Instead, this look at a mad scientist in charge of a spacecraft heading straight to a black hole was not just a thriller, but displayed a lot of never-before-seen computer-generated sights.

22. “The Perfect Storm” (2000)

Wolfgang Petersen's adaptation of Sebastian Junger's book about the doomed voyage of commercial fishing vessel the "Andrea Gail" during the real-life Perfect Storm of 1991 follows the crew (played by, among others, George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg) as they find themselves taking on massive storm conditions. Thanks to CGI, we see what it would be like to battle monstrous waves.

21. “Pan’s Labyrinth” (2006)

Though there were many practical effects and costumes that made up the incredible fantasy world of this classic by Guillermo del Toro, the film also used CGI to heighten the unique setting explored by a young girl.
