Lady Gaga Has Turned Her Instagram Selfies Into Ads For A Japanese Beauty Brand

Lady Gaga Shiseido

Lady Gaga has taken 50 selfies that have acted as the centerpiece for the Japanese beauty brand Shiseido's ad campaign during one of Japan's busiest shopping periods.

The pop star, infamous for her Instagram selfies, has become the face — and the photographer — of Shiseido’s 2015 New Year’s campaign, according to WWD.

A Lady Gaga Shiseido ad appeared in numerous Japanese national and regional newspapers over the New Year's period. Forty-six of the photos were published on New Year's Day, with the remaining four pushed out Friday.

The fan site Gaga Media has compiled a list of most of the images that appeared in Japanese newspapers.

The ads are not set to appear outside of Japan, but the campaign has garnered worldwide attention thanks to Gaga's 4.8 million Instagram followers. Some of the ads that appeared in the newspapers (such as this one) were also posted on her Instagram account.

Making the activity all the more interesting is the fact that Gaga has failed to mention the selfies are part of a marketing push, or any affiliation with Shiseido. If anyone were to complain about the lack of signposting, Gaga and Shiseido could incur the wrath of advertising regulators.

In November, for example, a marketing push from the Mondelez cookie brand Oreo featuring popular YouTube stars taking part in a "licking race" was banned by the UK's Advertising Standards Authority because the YouTubers failed to clearly identify the videos were marketing communications.

Here are five more of Gaga's recent ad-worthy Instagram selfies:

cute droid star wars episode vii trailer

2015 could easily be the biggest year at the box office in years. It will definitely be one of the most exciting.

Not only are we getting new films in the "Star Wars" and "Avengers" franchises — two films that could easily top $1 billion at theaters — but there are plenty of sequels to films made popular in the '90s and earlier.

It will feel as if we're stepping into a giant time machine.

From comedies to sequels and spy thrillers, these are the movies we can't wait to see.

"Taken 3"

Release date: Friday

Why to see it: Just when you thought they couldn't take anyone else, Liam Neeson returns one last time as retired CIA agent Bryan Mills to show off his particular set of skills. Instead of taking down baddies this time, Mills will be on the run trying to clear his name for a murder he didn't commit.

Watch the trailer.

"American Sniper"

Wide release date: Jan. 16

Why to see it:Clint Eastwood's latest film stars Bradley Cooper as Chris Kyle, the deadliest sniper in US military history. Originally debuting last year, the movie received good reviews for Cooper's portrayal of the Navy Seal.

Watch the trailer.

"Red Army"

Release date: Jan. 23

Why to see it: Even if you're not into hockey or sports, it's hard to not be drawn into the documentary about the Soviet Union's Red Army hockey team. The film tells the story behind the politically driven team. So far, the film has received extremely positive reviews.

It is the same minimum-security prison camp that inspired the Netflix series "Orange Is the New Black."

Giudice, a married mother of four, left her Montville Township mansion shortly after midnight in the back seat of an SUV driven by her lawyer, James J. Leonard Jr., according to NJ Advance Media.

She surrendered just before 3 a.m., seven hours ahead of her scheduled intake, which was negotiated with prison officials during a series of phone calls on New Year's Eve.

"She was ready," her lawyer said in a statement. "Teresa is a very strong woman. She won't have any problems in there."

After Leonard dropped off his client, he told the press: "When we arrived at Danbury, everyone we encountered was extremely courteous and respectful."

Leonard also told ABC News, "I think she was anxious to get in, get this thing started, get it behind her, and get back to her family. Her four girls are her primary focus."

Teresa's daughter, Gia, is the only family member who has since spoken out:Screen Shot 2015 01 05 at 10.52.51 AMThe Bravo reality TV celebrity is serving time for bankruptcy and mortgage fraud. Director Christopher Nolan Doesn't Have A Cellphone Or Email Address

christopher nolan iphone

It's pretty difficult to imagine life without a cellphone or email nowadays, but director Christopher Nolan says he doesn't have either.

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the "Dark Knight Trilogy" director explains he doesn't see much use for the technology. When he started out in Hollywood, very few people had cellphones. He was used to people tapping him on the should and handing him a phone if necessary.

Nolan says he just doesn't find email helpful.

Via THR:

Well, I’ve never used email because I don’t find it would help me with anything I’m doing. I just couldn’t be bothered about it. As far as the cellphone goes, it’s like that whole thing about "in New York City, you’re never more than two feet from a rat" — I’m never two feet from a cellphone. I mean, we’ll be on a scout with 10 people and all of them have phones, so it’s very easy to get in touch with me when people need to. When I started in this business, not many people had cellphones, I didn’t have one, I never bothered to get one and I’ve been very fortunate to be working continuously, so there’s always someone around me who can tap me on the shoulder and hand me a phone if they need to. I actually really like not having one because it gives me time to think. You know, when you have a smartphone and you have 10 minutes to spare, you go on it and you start looking at stuff.

Nolan previously told The New York Times he doesn't have an email address. Instead, his assistant, Andy Thompson handles correspondences and Nolan reads printed out emails.

Netflix Will Offer A Special Seal Of Approval For TVs

Netflix made an interesting announcement at LG's Consumer Electronics Show 2015 press conference Monday.

The video-streaming company announced a special seal of approval that it will award TVs capable of streaming Netflix easily.

The plan is scant on details at this time, but the seal of approval is part of the streaming company's "Recommended TV Program," which is designed to help users find a TV that will play nicely with Netflix.Netflix TV

The program will identify TVs that offer "better performance, easier menu navigation, and new features that improve the experience for Internet TV services,’’" said Neil Hunt, chief product officer at Netflix, in a press release

So far, we only know that a TV that receives a Netflix Recommended TV logo will have features such as "turning the TV on instantly, faster app launch, and faster resume of video playback," though Netflix also says that "other performance criteria also expected to be announced this spring."

Netflix also announced that it will stream in HDR (high dynamic range) on LG's newly announced TVs. Netflix didn't reveal exactly what HDR streaming will look like, but we're guessing it means a higher-fidelity stream of some kind.

The Victoria's Secret Angels help the brand sell billions

The young models who work for Victoria's Secret teen line PINK are likely to become the future spokeswomen for the business.

PINK is Victoria's Secret clothing, sleepwear, and intimates line that is targeted toward teenagers and college students. The merchandise offers a fun, fresh, and flirty take on VS's signature sexy apparel.

Sara Sampaio, 23, serves as PINK's spokesmodel. This Portuguese model has been the voice and face of PINK since 2013, and she appeared in the 2014 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

Elsa Hosk, 26, has been walking the Victoria's Secret runway since 2011, but the Swedish model has been critical to PINK this year. She appeared with Rachel Hilbert and Iggy Azalea at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas for the PINK Nation Crazy for Campus Bash, and she separately promoted the PINK Wear Everywhere Bra.

Rachel Hilbert, 19, might already be a well-known Victoria's Secret model, but given her status as one of the faces of PINK, she's likely to become even bigger. This year, she teamed up with fellow Victoria's Secret model Elsa Hosk and Iggy Azalea for the PINK Nation Crazy for Campus Bash.

Fox Has $5.5 Billion Record-Breaking Year At Box Office

dawn of planet of apes

It was a huge year for 20th Century Fox.

Deadline reports that the studio had a record-breaking year, earning more than $5.5 billion globally at the box office, which is remarkable considering 2014 was particularly dismal for movie attendance. In fact, it was the worst year at the box office in 19 years.

However, Fox produced several of the highest-grossing films this year, including "X-Men: Days of Future Past," "Dawn of The Planet of The Apes," and "Rio 2." Below are the studio's top ten performing movies of 2014 (via Box Office Mojo):

1. "X-Men: Days of Future Past": $746 million
2. "Dawn of The Planet of The Apes": $708.3 million
3. "How To Train Your Dragon": $618.9 million
4. "Rio 2": $498.8 million
5. "Gone Girl": $362.3 million
6. "The Maze Runner": $339.8 million
7. "The Fault In Our Stars": $304.2 million
8. "Mr. Peabody & Sherman."$272.9 million
9. "Penguins Of Madagascar": $270.7 million
10. "Exodus: Gods & Kings": $202.8 million

In North American box offices alone, Fox grossed $1.79 billion, making it the studio's best performing year ever.

Comparatively, Deadline reports that Disney came in second at the box office this year, with a $1.6 billion domestic gross, thanks to its mega-hit "Guardians of The Galaxy" and spillover from 2013's "Frozen." Warner Brothers, which was the leading studio in 2013, came behind Disney, with a $1.54 billion domestic gross. Despite the end-of-year hacking nightmares, Sony was the fourth best-performing studio this year, followed by Universal, Paramount, and Lionsgate, respectively. Lionsgate was responsible for "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1," but Fox's success this year proves that it takes several smash hits to break records.

Grace Helbig

Grace Helbig is getting her own primetime show on the E! network, The New York Times reports.

Helbig, who is a comedian and vlogger based in LA, is one of the first YouTube-made celebs making the jump to a major network for her own show.

Tentatively named “The Grace Helbig Project,” the series will make its debut sometime in April 2015.

So you may be wondering...who?

Helbig, 29, first started vlogging on YouTube in 2008, narrating NSFW parodies of fairy tales on an animated web series called "Bedtime Stories" for a YouTube channel called "My Damn Channel."

From there, she launched her own channel — "Daily Grace" — in October of 2010 after vlogging Daily Grace videos exclusively for "My Damn Channel."

Grace Helbig

Fast forward to 2015. Helbig has millions of subscribers and has appeared in "a series of Lowe's television commercials, co-producing and starring in the feature film Camp Takota," according to her Wikipedia page.

To get a sense of Helbig, take a look at the video below, or take a look at her channel.

“Congratulations to E! for giving an internet-obsessed introvert a talk show. I’m looking forward to working with humans," Helbig said in a statement regarding her new show.

21 Things 'Back To The Future 2' Got Wrong About 2015

hover board back to the future 2If there's one movie you should rewatch this year, it's "Back to the Future 2."

Director Robert Zemeckis' 1989 film sends Marty McFly and Doc Brown to the year 2015.

Did the film get it right? Not exactly.

While it predicted Skype calls and virtual-reality headsets, the film got plenty wrong — including hoverboards.

However, Zemeckis mentions in a featurette for the film he didn't plan to get the future right, explaining he was not a fan of seeing it depicted in movies.

We may have electric cars, but we're still a little while away from ones that fly.

We're getting there, though.

2015 may be fond of superheroes on the big screen, but we're not dressing like them just yet.

We've come close, but we're still waiting around for an actual working model of a hoverboard. It didn't help that Zemeckis tricked fans into thinking the toy was real in a behind-the-scenes featurette for the film.

How The Greatest Insult Barbara Corcoran Ever Received Inspired Her To Become Hugely Successful

$

barbara corcoran

Barbara Corcoran never dreamed of being an entrepreneur as a kid.

She graduated college in 1971 with a degree in education, but a couple of years later her then-boyfriend Ramone Simone, who worked in real estate, suggested they start a real-estate business together. The Corcoran Group began in 1973, and though she and Simone went their separate ways and split the business, she sold her half for $66 million to NRT Incorporated in 2001.

In 2009 Corcoran joined the cast of ABC's "Shark Tank," a show that became not only a surprise hit, but her full-time job. As she looks back at her life, she finds she has had "two great role models."

Simone was the person who inspired Corcoran to be her own boss, a concept that was foreign to her, a New Jersey native who grew up in a neighborhood in which nearly all the men took factory jobs.

"And so I never saw anyone who worked for themselves," she tells Business Insider. "But Ramone Simone did, and he had a big fancy car, and he had nice suits on, and he laughed, and it seemed like he had endless money. It was like, 'Whoa, this is easy!' So when he said, 'You'd be great in real estate. Why don't you start a real estate firm?' [I was like] 'Yeah, OK!'"

Corcoran borrowed $1,000 and took to the real-estate business, eventually becoming a high-profile member of the industry in New York City.

And while Simone began as an inspiring model of success for Corcoran, his negativity would become an equally powerful influence when their relationship turned sour.

In the early 1980s, Simone left Corcoran to marry her secretary. After they reluctantly split the company, Corcoran says, Simone told her as he walked out the door, "You'll never succeed without me."

"He'd never said anything mean to me, but he was so angry we chopped up the business," she says. "But that was the 'advice' that got me through the thick and thin, mostly because it slammed me in my gut, and I didn't want to let him have the satisfaction of seeing me go down. That's what I always leaned on when things were bad. I'd be like, 'Damn, I'm not gonna let him see me [like this].'"

Corcoran's other role model came from a purely positive place: her mother, a longtime housewife.

"[I]n my household — which had two bedrooms, 10 kids, and one bath — you would have recognized her as a phenomenal businesswoman," Corcoran says. "She was just super organized, definitely in charge, had everybody doing what she wanted, motivated everybody. She was just in charge. And so her house was her business."

Corcoran says that even though her mom never actually made a corporate deal or managed employees, her resolve and success in raising a huge family left a lasting impression.

As Corcoran got older, she says, she may have looked to her Simone as an example of what a successful businessperson looked like, but her mom "kept proving to be the best role model for business."

Jon Stewart the interview

After a holiday break, Jon Stewart returned to "The Daily Show" Monday night to tackle the recent controversy surrounding "The Interview."

"Seth Rogen and James Franco's film 'The Interview' opened to one particularly nasty review," Stewart explained, referring to the Sony hackers who threatened to attack cinemas showing the film. It is widely believed that the hackers operated under the direction of the North Korean government.

Stewart continued: "Listen, North Korea, you can mess with a lot of things: our postal system, our water supply, but when you start f---ing with out holiday releases — the precious cinematic delights we partake in to avoid having to talk to our families — you’ve stepped on a landmine."

The show then ran news clips about the sanctions the US slapped on North Korea in response.

"I just want to interrupt very quickly," Stewart chimed in. "So in all the sanctions we’ve had on North Korea, North Korea’s KGB and their arms dealers were still allowed to use our banking system? Not that, on average, they didn’t make our banking system less evil."

Following the Sony hack, President Obama put North Korea back on the United States' list of states that sponsor terrorism. In response, Stewart joked: "You made the list, buddy. That goes on your permanent record. Good luck, Kim Jong Un, getting into Oberlin's premed program now."

Stewart continued, "If we're sending a message to North Korea a message about this Sony hack, we have to make Kim Jong Un quake in his very tiny but expensive boots."

"But I guess our anger is no surprise. These hackers violated our privacyThey read our emails. What kind of a country does that?" Stewart said sarcastically before showing news clips about Edward Snowden's revelation that the National Security Agency can read emails, chats, and personal conversations.

"Well at least when we spy on us, we have the decency to not leak mean sh-- about Angelina Jolie," Stewart concluded. "Monsters!"

Why Barbara Corcoran Has A Framed Photo Of Every 'Shark Tank' Entrepreneur She Works With

"Shark Tank" investor Barbara Corcoran has a wall in her office that is filled with almost 30 picture frames, most of them turned backwards.

The photos facing her are portraits of her favorite entrepreneurs that she's invested in, their smiling faces constant reminders that they're deserving of her time and energy. The other ones... well, she's not so excited about them.

"[T]he minute I realize they're not a great entrepreneur, I flip the frame over," Corcoran tells Business Insider. "I keep the frame on the wall, but this way every time I look up, it's my symbol: Don't spend any time on this. I put all my focus on my good ones."

She came up with this unique management system when she realized that "Shark Tank," which she joined in its first season in 2009, had become her full-time job. Although she made her fortune in the New York real estate business, Corcoran now spends her time working out deals with entrepreneurs on the set and helping manage the companies she invests in.

Over six seasons, she estimates she's made deals with about 26 entrepreneurs. As soon as she closes a deal, she has them send a photo of themselves, which she then sticks into a frame.

Corcoran gives each entrepreneur four months to hit goals they agree on, and if they don't meet them, she flips their picture around. She says that when she first started this system a few seasons ago, she gave each entrepreneur six months to make an impression, but she's now thinking four months is too lenient.

As we spoke with her, she was looking at the wall.

"Let me see. Yeah, there are exactly nine," Corcoran says, referring to those face-up. "Nine are up right now, and I'm sure I'll flip a couple over in the next couple months and be back to seven," she adds, laughing.

A Photographer Traveled The US To Uncover The Weird World Of Conventioneers

We all have interests and hobbies from which we derive pleasure, fulfillment, and identity.

Some take these interests to the next level, attending conventions all over the US (and around the world) to meet and discuss their passions with like-minded individuals. From politics to comics, and even websites, people love to form communities, both literal and metaphorical, around their shared interests.

Photographer Yvette Marie Dostatni was drawn to these kinships, and traveling the US to document different conventions, from the banal to the bizarre. Her series, "The Conventioneers," is a testament to the relationships found in these groups.

"We live in a country that is unique because of not only our character, but our characters," Dostatni told Business Insider.

Dostatni shared some pictures and stories from the series with us here, but you can see more on her website. If you're feeling generous, donate to her Kickstarter campaign.

Dostatni says she stumbled upon a love for photographing conventions by accident when she was photographing a dog show at McCormick Place in Chicago.

"I saw a gaggle of nuns riding down an escalator surrounded by hordes of tough looking bikers. I decided to follow the nuns instead, and ended up at the Cycle World International [convention]," she says. "After that, I was hooked. I have been photographing conventions and conventioneers ever since."

Since then, Dostatni has seen a lot of interesting things, she says, like the Players Ball seen below, a convention for self-proclaimed pimps and their female admirers.
