Jeremy Lin Doesn't Think It Is Fair That Fans Are Booing Kim Kardashian's Ex-Husband

$

Jeremy Lin Kris Humphries

Jeremy Lin is not only loved by fans everywhere, but apparently he is also quickly becoming a favorite of opposing players in the NBA. And following last night's game, Rachel Nichols of ESPN got a glimpse of why that is happening.

Shortly after the New York Knicks lost to the New Jersey Nets, Lin stopped Kris Humphries to talk about his marriage to Kim Kardashian, sorta... From Rachel Nichols on ESPN:

"Lin showed why he has become so well-liked around the league in such a short time. He stopped Nets forward Kris Humphries in a hallway after the game. He told Humphries how good a player he thinks he is. And how he doesn't think it's fair that every time Humphries touches the ball, he gets booed by fans upset about his off-court love life. 'Now that,' Humphries said 'is a good dude.' "

Keep in mind that this was a game in which Lin did not play particularly well and was dominated by Nets point guard Deron Williams. And one of Lin's first thoughts after the game was to try to cheer up one of his opponents.

Good dude indeed.

Now if Lin can just get Williams to stop being so jealous.

Whitney Houston's Family Plans To Sell Funeral Footage

alicia-keys-funeral-whitney-houston

If you missed out on Whitney Houston's "home going" in Newark, N.J. this past Saturday, you'll have another chance to view the near four-hour-long ceremony—but only on certain networks or websites.

Three days after the elaborate services, featuring performances by Alicia Keys and Stevie Wonder and a 17-minute speech by "The Bodyguard" co-star, Kevin Costner, the Houston family announced they will be selling funeral footage.

According to the Hollywood Scoop, all media outlets were told to pull their footage within 24 hours, as proceeds from sales will "help maximize the estate for the benefit of Bobbi Kristina."

The rep confirmed the family has "agreed to license footage to several media outlets" charging "customary fees." No word on the identity of those select lucky outlets. But we know for sure that TMZ is not among the few

However, even if Houston was near bankruptcy during her last days, it's doubtful Bobbi Kristina, the main beneficiary of her mother's estate, would be heading to the poor house anytime soon.

Houston's estate is actually expected to see a boost, much like after other artists' passings, such as Jimi Hendrix and John Lennon.

Although, Houston's estate isn't expected to make as much as Michael Jackson's, which has earned over $170 million since the pop star's death. Forbes writer, Zack O'Malley Greenburg, reported that even if Houston's music sells half as well as Jackson's, royalties should add, at the least, an estimated $10 million to her estate.

Since Houston's death, MTV has reported one million album sales and nearly another million (887,000) in digital downloads.

The singer's "Whitney: The Greatest Hits" album has already sold 64,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan, in the U.S. as of February 12 alone. That's not a number that is going to go down very quickly.

"Sparkle," Houston's last film due out this summer, in which she starred and produced, is already projected to do well at the box office, despite the film's quality.

Plus, there's always money to be made from future book deals or film projects on the singer's life.

Conan O'Brien Made A Cameo On 'How I Met Your Mother' Last Night

conan-o'brien-himym

If you were watching "How I Met Your Mother" last night, you may have seen a familiar face near the end of the episode.

Yes, that was Conan O'Brien—looking like the Fonz with his leather coat—near the door way of MacLaren's Pub.

If you turned away, you were sure to miss O'Brien's nearly six-second cameo.

What's the deal with featuring the talk show host as an extra in the background? Surely, the show could afford to have him on for longer, as it has already seen A-list guest stars such as Katie Holmes, Jennifer Lopez and Britney Spears.

O'Brien revealed on his show that he won the walk-on role at an auction last year. In fact, the star outbid himself for the bit. Afterward, the writers offered to write him into an episode, but O'Brien felt it would be funnier to stay in the background of the bar.

Check out his mini-cameo below with his HIMYM casting reveal afterward:

Comcast, the country's largest cable company, announced Tuesday it will carry new channels from Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Robert Rodriguez, and Spanish language TV veteran Constantino “Said” Schwarz.

The four channels were selected by the nation's largest cable company after it promised to carry more minority-owned channels as it sought federal approval for its majority acquisition of NBCUniversal. After reviewing more than 100 proposals, the company opted to air channels by some of the best-known people in entertainment as they seek to give voice to often-underrepresented audiences.

Also read: Sean Combs Plans New Music Channel -- Revolt

Johnson's channel, Aspire, was created with GMC TV and will focus on programming that celebrates "the successes, achievements and accomplishments of the African-American community and create new opportunities for the next generation of African-American visionaries." The channel, which will debut this summer, fits into a similar niche as broadcast network Bounce TV, which launched last year.

Combs' Revolt will be a live music and news station inspired by the pace of social media. It is expected to debut next year.

"Revolt will be live, like all great moments in television history," Combs said in a statement. "Revolt will also be immediate, like today’s social networks. We know it was a highly competitive process and we want to thank Comcast for this opportunity to truly change television with Revolt."

Rodriguez's El Rey, which he proposed with FactoryMade Ventures executives John Fogelman and Cristina Patwa, will be an "action-packed, general entertainment network in English for Latino and general audiences," according to Comcast. It will prominently feature Hispanic producers, celebrities and public figures, and is expected to launch by January 2014.

The first channel expected to launch is Schwarz' BabyFirst Americas. The network targeting infants, young children and their parents emphasizes verbal, math and motor skills. It is expected to air by this April.

Here's the release:

PHILADELPHIA, PA – February 21, 2012 – Comcast Corporation (Nasdaq: CMCSA, CMCSK), one of the world’s leading media, entertainment and communications companies, today announced it has selected four new minority-owned independent networks to be broadly distributed on Comcast Cable systems between April 2012 and January 2014. After a thorough evaluation of more than 100 proposals, Comcast selected four networks ― two of which are majority African-American owned and two that are majority American Hispanic owned and operated and programmed in English.

"We are thrilled to work with such talented individuals to launch these new networks that will bring exciting and fresh content to consumers,” said David L. Cohen, Executive Vice President, Comcast Corporation. “Comcast is committed to delivering programming that reflects the interests of our customers, and we look forward to integrating these great networks into our rich programming line-up.”

African-American Category:

Aspire: Spearheaded by Entrepreneur and NBA Hall of Famer Earvin “Magic” Johnson, in partnership with GMC TV, Aspire is dedicated to delivering enlightening, entertaining and positive programming to African-Americans families, including movies, documentaries, short films, music, comedy, visual and performing arts, and faith and inspirational programs.

Aspire will celebrate the successes, achievements and accomplishments of the African-American community and create new opportunities for the next generation of African-American visionaries. The network will launch by summer 2012.

“Aspire will be a network that encourages and challenges African-Americans to reach for their dreams and will appeal to all generations. Aspire will celebrate our heritage, our groundbreaking achievements and the fearless talent that has shaped American culture. I’m most excited about Aspire creating opportunities for the new voices, new visions and the next generation of storytellers,” said Earvin “Magic” Johnson.

REVOLT: Proposed by superstar and entrepreneur Sean “Diddy” Combs and MTV veteran Andy Schuon, this network is designed to have programming inspired by music and pop culture, including music videos, live performances, music news, and interviews and will incorporate social media interaction for music artists and fans. The network has entered into an agreement to launch in 2013.

“REVOLT is the first channel created entirely from the ground up in this new era of social media” said Sean “Diddy” Combs. “We’re building this platform for artists to reach an extraordinary number of people in a completely different way. REVOLT will be live, like all great moments in television history. REVOLT will also be immediate, like today’s social networks. We know it was a highly competitive process and we want to thank Comcast for this opportunity to truly change television with REVOLT.”

Hispanic Category:

El Rey: Proposed by legendary Hollywood director Robert Rodriguez and FactoryMade Ventures executives John Fogelman and Cristina Patwa, this network is designed to be an action-packed, general entertainment network in English for Latino and general audiences that includes a mix of reality, scripted and animated series, movies, documentaries, news, music, comedy, and sports programming. The El Rey network will include programming that features Hispanic producers, celebrities and public figures. The network has entered into an agreement to launch by January 2014.

"This partnership with Comcast signals an important moment for the Latino community in this country – we are passionate about creating a wildly entertaining destination that we can be proud of by appealing to both Latino and mass market audiences," said Robert Rodriguez and CEO of FactoryMade Ventures John Fogelman. "We engineered El Rey to address a burgeoning opportunity to deliver unique, high-quality and compelling content to a hard-to-reach demographic and are excited to bring more opportunities to generations of talent, storytellers and dreamers through this special partnership.”

BabyFirst Americas: Proposed by Spanish language television veteran Constantino “Said” Schwarz, this network is designed for infants, very young children, and their parents, and emphasizes the importance of early development of verbal, math and motor skills. The network has entered into an agreement to launch by April 2012.

“We are thrilled to partner with Comcast and commend them for recognizing the importance of quality education for young children,” remarked Constantino “Said” Schwarz, CEO and Chairman BabyFirst Americas.

“BabyFirst Americas aims to bring the essential academic building blocks for Kindergarten readiness into the home, making it accessible for families all across the U.S.”

Comcast made a series of voluntary public interest commitments in connection with the NBCUniversal transaction, one of which is to launch 10 new independently owned and operated networks over the next eight years. Of the 10 networks, four will be majority African-American owned, two will be majority American Latino owned, two will be operated by American Latino programmers, and two will provide additional independent programming. Ultimately, each of the 10 networks will be added on select Comcast systems as part of the digital basic tier of service.

Michelle Williams

Our hearts went out to her as a wife dealing with her husband's secret relationship in Ang Lee's "Brokeback Mountain," and five years later, she blew us away in another broken relationship alongside Hollywood heartthrob Ryan Gosling in "Blue Valentine."

From supporting actress to lead star, Michelle Williams earned Oscar nominations for both films. And the buxom blonde is on a hot streak with another nomination this year for her depiction of Marilyn Monroe in "My Week with Marilyn."

Sure, Williams has some steep competition alongside six-time Oscar-nominated Glenn Close and 17-time Oscar-nominated Meryl Streep, Viola Davis ("The Help") and newcomer Rooney Mara ("The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo"); however, with her third nomination in six years, it's about time Ms. Williams saw some Oscar love.

Take a look back at 10 roles that make her worthy of a win. We bet you don't recall them all.

"Dick" (1999): $6,262,878

Williams meets President Nixon after ditching a White House tour with Kirsten Dunst in this political satire.

"A Thousand Acres" (1997): $7,936,780

Williams was featured in this adaptation of Shakespeare's "King Lear" starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Jessica Lange

"Lassie" (1994): $9,979,683

Yes, that's Williams who played Matt Turner's friend April Porter in the '90s remake of the popular TV series.

The 9 Biggest Oscar Ad Controversies Of All Time

$
0
0

Melissa Leo

America is currently enmeshed in two campaigns: one for the presidential election and the other for the winners of the 2012 Oscars. And with every campaign comes controversy.

With actors releasing desperate, and often inappropriate, self-promotional ads (like Melissa Leo, pictured) and the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences enforcing intricate commercial rules, much of the Oscar drama has nothing to do with presenter flops and acceptance-speech F-bombs.

The Oscars show only contains 30 minutes of ads, with each half-minute spot going for $1.7 million, and so the academy has a very strict set of rules for advertisers. For example, actors who are nominated for awards can't appear in certain commercial breaks for fear of creating the appearance of impartiality (even though the academy has voted for the winners long before the broadcast).

This slideshow looks at the Academy Awards' ridiculous history of controversial ads.

1961: Chill Wills

In 1961, actor Chill Wills was up for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Alamo. Chills' publicist Bow-Wow (yes, actually called Bow-Wow) took out an extreme Oscars ad blitz for his client like Hollywood had never seen.

One of his ads listed every member of the academy in alphabetical order, reading: "Win, lose or draw, you're all my cousins and I love you all."

Groucho Marx responded with another ad: "Dear Mr. Chill Wills: I am delighted to be your cousin but I voted for Sal Mineo." (Mineo had starred in Exodus).

Unable to take a hint, Bow-Wow put out another ad featuring the entire Alamo cast that read, "We of the 'Alamo' cast are praying harder -- than the real Texans prayed for their lives in the Alamo -- for Chill Wills to win the Oscar as best supporting actor. Cousin Chill's acting was great. Your Alamo cousins."

While Variety didn't' run that ad, they did run a response from director John Wayne saying that the cast and crew had absolutely no knowledge that the ad had been created, but that he was sure that Wills' "intentions are not as bad as his taste."

1985: The Color Purple

In 1985,The Color Purple best supporting actress nominee took out an ad that read:

Dear God, My name is Margaret Avery. I knows dat I been blessed by Alice Walker, Steven Spielberg, and Quincy Jones, who gave me the part of "Shug" Avery in The Color Purple. Now I is up for one of the nominations fo’ Best Supporting Actress alongst with some fine, talented ladies that I is proud to be in the company of. Well, God, I guess the time has come fo’ the Academy’s voters to decide whether I is one of the Best Supporting Actresses this year or not! Either way, thank you, LORD, for the opportunity. Your little daughter, Margaret Avery

She told People Magazine that the ad cost her "a kitchen stove," $1,160.

According to Deadline, Avery was criticized for writing the ad in a stereotypical dialect that wasn't even used by the character she portrayed in the film.

Avery lost to Anjelica Huston for Prizzi's Honor.

1986: The Best Song Debacle

In 1986, Coca-Cola planned to run an ad during the Oscars that featured the song "Ghostbusters," which had been nominated for Best Original Song that evening.

To keep things fair (even though members of the academy had already submitted their votes), the academy told Coke that it would only be allowed to run the spot if they created four other commercials featuring "Let's Hear It For The Boy," I Just Called to Say I Love You," "Footloose," and "Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)"—the four other nominees.

Coke declined.

BLAST FROM THE PAST: In 1981, The N.Y. Times Wasn't Sure Advertisers Would Be Interested In Cable TV

Jeff Simmermon, the director of digital communication for Time Warner Cable, gave us a blast from the past on Twitter today: He linked to a 1981 report from The New York Times on the state of cable, a story written when broadcast TV bestrode the earth like an invincible colossus and America was still being introduced to the idea that you didn't need rabbit ears to watch Monday Night Football.

The story is a gem, in hindsight. It begins:

MAJOR advertisers and agencies are slowly beginning to test cable television as an advertising medium. How fast the medium grows will depend on how quickly cable operators and advertisers develop the new technology's place in the advertising spectrum. It also remains to be seen what other advertising media will be hurt by cable's growth. Because of the basic similarity, one might expect that commercial broadcast television would be the most likely to suffer. But Roger Rice, president of the Television Bureau of Advertising, said he is not worried.

History is about to turn full circle on Time Warner. The company lost 129,000 subscribers last quarter; many of those losses came because people are cutting the cord and watching video online.

Now who's not worried?

Here's the Times story (below):

Its main character – the manor – is a real castle in Berkshire that functions pretty much like the fictional household of the aristocratic Crawley family depicted in the show.

The Highclere Castle, where the series is filmed, is not a museum.

It is the breathtaking home of Lord and Lady Carnarvon. Their furniture and art is also featured throughout the series. The Carnarvons also enjoy a large household staff that maintains the castle in impeccable shape just like the staff of Downton Abbey does.

Any Comcast customer currently paying for Netflix may want to rethink their subscription. According to a press release, the media giant is unveiling a new video-on-demand (VOD) service, Xfinity Streampix, this week to rival with the online competitor, Netflix.

XFinity customers currently have access to a wide variety of programs online. Essentially, any channel you pay for is available at your fingertips through your Comcast account online, giving video-streaming site Hulu a run for its money as well.

Since Xfinity already houses a pretty extensive library for Comcast customers, the addition of Streampix will bolster their selection with additional content from Disney-ABC, NBCUniversal, Sony Pictures and Warner Bros.

The best part of the unveil is that customers who already subscribe to Xfinity's triple-play package will reap the benefits of Streampix gratis. If you already use the Xfinity site, you the only change you should notice are more shows available.

If you never knew you could stream shows online with your Comcast account in the first place, now may be the time to pay attention, since you can gain full access to complete seasons of shows no longer on air including "Lost," "Heroes" and "Married…with Children."

In the next year, the Streampix service will become ubiquitous, offered on both the Xbox 360 and Android devices.

Comcast subscribers without triple-play will be able to purchase the VOD service for an additional $4.99 per month.

News of Xfinity Streampix comes after Netflix reported it made a deal with The Weinstein Company to stream some of their recent content including "The Artist," "Coriolanus" and Madonna's "W.E." before premium TV and cable channels.

Kate Upton Laughs Off Remarks That Victoria's Secret Would 'Never Use' Her In Their Runway Show

Kate Upton

Looks like we weren't the only ones questioning Kate Upton's worthiness of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition cover.

Sophia Neophitou, editor of 10 magazine and a creative force behind the much-hyped Victoria's Secret runway show, recently told The New York Times:

[Kate Upton is] too obvious…She's like a Page 3 girl. She's like a footballer's wife, with the too-blonde hair and that kind of face that anyone with enough money can go out and buy.

Ouch.

And despite Upton having appeared in print ads for Victoria's Secret, Neophitou added  "we would never use" Upton for the December lingerie show, the most widely-viewed runway show in the world.

But Upton wasn't too hurt by the comments, recently telling "Access Hollywood" host Billy Bush, "Gisele's a football player's wife. Gisele's in that category so I'm good."

The buxom blonde added, "Im doing fine in my career, I don't need to walk down their runway so it's all good. She can think that and I can think whatever I want about her."

A freelance producer for the CBS reality show "The Amazing Race" has been found dead in Uganda after reportedly being poisoned, Meaghan Murphy of Fox News reports.

A source told the news site that Jeff Rice and another producer, who survived, were poisoned after refusing to give into the demands of "local thugs."

According to Fox News

Rice was not currently working on “The Amazing Race,” but he had worked on Season 20, which premiered on CBS on Sunday. Rice had also worked on Animal Planet's "Whale Wars" and the South African version of "The Biggest Loser," along with several other series and television movies.

CBS had no comment and the show's production company, Jerry Bruckheimer Films, said it was not aware of the incident, according to the original report.

Madonna-Affleck-Eastwood-Actor-Directors

With the Academy Awards less than a week away, we decided to take a look at famous actors who have tried their hand at directing.

Among this year's Oscar nominated slew, George ClooneyGary Oldman, and Kenneth Branagh have all directed feature films. Even Jean Dujardin and Octavia Spencer have attempted a behind-the-camera role with TV show episodes and short films.

While none of these stars are nominated for directing this year (though Clooney was in the running with "The Ides of March"), here's a look at actors who can work it behind the camera as well as they do in front ... And those who can't.

BEST: Clint Eastwood

The grandaddy of all actors-turned-directors, this famous movie cowboy has dominated the camera since 1971.

The most famous films out of the bunch would be 1992's "Unforgiven" and 2004's "Million Dollar Baby." Both raked in over $100 million domestically and garnered Best Director Oscars for the movie veteran.

Notable acting roles:
 -“A Fistful Of Dollars”
-“The Good, The Bad and The Ugly”
 -“Unforgiven”
 -“Million Dollar Baby”

Notable Films Directed:
 -"Unforgiven"- $101,157,447 (Best Director Oscar)
-"The Bridges of Madison County"- $71,516,617
 -"Space Cowboys"- $90,464,773
-"Mystic River"- $90,135,191 (Best Director Oscar Nomination)
-"Million Dollar Baby"- $100,492,203 (Best Director Oscar)
-“Letters From Iwo Jima”- (Best Director Oscar Nomination)
 -"Gran Torino"- $148,095,302

BEST: Jon Favreau

Although Jon Favreau has acted in more than 40 TV and film roles throughout his career ("Couples Retreat," The Break Up," "I Love You, Man") it is his directing that has garnered him the most success.

Out of the six films Favreau has directed, four of them have done big at the box-office.

And look out for Favreau in his films, he shows up now and again, a lá Hitchcock.

Notable Acting Roles:
 -“Iron Man”
 -“I Love You, Man”
 -“Swingers”

Notable Films Directed:
 -"Elf"- $173,398,518
 -"Iron Man"- $318,412,101
 -"Iron Man 2"- $312,433,331

BEST: Ben Affleck

Ben Affleck has gone from Oscar-winning writer in 1998 for "Good Will Hunting" to A-list actor in films such as "Armageddon," "Hollywoodland," and "Boiler Room."

While some flicks have been forgettable (cough, "Gigli") Affleck has remained a top Hollywood actor, and now director.

He shows signs of staying power in the director's chair: Affleck's first two directorial features did well both critically and at the box office.

Notable Acting Roles:
 -“Good Will Hunting”
 -"Armageddon"
 -“Pearl Harbor”
 -“Hollywoodland”

Notable Films Directed:
-"Gone Baby Gone"- $20,300,218 (National Board of Review- Best Debut Director)
 -"The Town"- $92,186,262

Bar RefaeliBar Rafaeli is baring all in the new black and white ads for her male and female underwear line, Under.Me.

The 26-year-old model took to the tennis court in nothing but a white barely-there ensemble and a tennis racket.

Although Rafaeli has modeled for lingerie lines in the past, this is the Victoria's Secret model's first collection of her own.

"The philosophy is that underwear should complement your body, not steal the show," Refaeli said in a statement. "It was appealing to me to do a line of underwear from the fabric I like with the basic, comfy design I always look for, as well as underwear that can actually be delivered to your door."

Refaeli follows in the footsteps of Elle Macpherson and Gisele Bundchen, who have both launched highly successful lines of intimates.

Just because you can't get a seat at the Oscars—we can't either—doesn't mean you can't get in on the action. After the winners are announced this Sunday, you can purchase your very own Academy Award.

Nate D. Sanders is auctioning off 15 used Oscar statuettes dating back to 1931. You know, in case you ever wanted to reenact Sally Field's famous award speech for your friends, display it on a shelf or whatever else you'd do with a used Oscar.

The going price may be steep—seriously, you'll be paying an arm and a leg. Orson Welles' 1941 "Best Screenplay" Oscar sold for $861,542 in Sanders' December auction. However, what's money when you can have a priceless piece of history?

We've rounded up all of the statuettes for sale, including their going rates with minimum bids starting at $1,000. Among the awards up for grab include the only Oscars awarded to "Citizen Kane" and "Wuthering Heights" with the former holding the current highest bid of $142,042.

Reuters reported the auction house expects to bring in an estimated $2 million off the statuettes. The auction is set for February 28th, two days after the Academy Awards.

So, break out your rainy day fund—and a few stashed piggy banks—and join the ranks of Adrien Brody, Jack Nicholson, Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep. You could be the proud owner of a used Oscar statuette.
