Seth MacFarlane Slams Boston Bombings 'Family Guy' Conspiracy Theory

family guy boston bombings

"Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane took to Twitter on Tuesday to condemn an edited clip that suggests Fox's animated comedy predicted Monday's Boston Marathon bombings a month before they occurred.

"The edited 'Family Guy' clip currently circulating is abhorrent. The event was a crime and a tragedy, and my thoughts are with the victims," MacFarlane fumed on Twitter.

The creator was responding to an edited video that has sparked one of the more bizarre conspiracy theories since the Beantown bombings.

One version of the edited clip fuses two scenes from the March 17 "Family Guy" episode "Turban Cowboy." The first portion of the clip depicts "Family Guy" patriarch Peter Griffin, preparing to tell Bob Costas how he won the Boston marathon.

The edited clip then shows Griffin and friends at local boozery the Drunken Clam. After Griffin dials his cell phone, an explosion occurs off-camera. He re-dials, at which point a second explosion occurs, followed by screaming.

Also read: Obama Calls Boston Bombings 'Terrorism' in Second Briefing (Video)

In the actual, unedited episode, Griffin tells Costas that he won the marathon by completing it with his car, with a cutaway to him plowing through the racers. The explosion scene ties back to the main plot of the episode, in which he inadvertently befriends a group of terrorists intent on blowing up a bridge in the "Family Guy" setting of Quahog, Rhode Island.

Poor taste right in line with the "Family Guy" tradition? Yes. A prediction of the Boston marathon bombings? Not even close -- unless you squint really hard and are already prone to paranoid delusions.

However, that didn't stop conspiracy-obsessed website Infowars from running a story Tuesday titled, "'Family Guy' Episode Predicted Boston Marathon  Attack."

"The image of Peter killing the Boston Marathon runners even shows blood and missing limbs, a chilling reminder of the very real scenes of carnage we saw yesterday," wrote Infowars editor/writer Paul Joseph Watson.

Also read: Boston Bombings: 'Man on Roof' Spawns Conspiracy Theories

To his (partial) credit, Watson noted, "It is important to note that the video shows two clips from different points of the show edited together, but they are from the same episode."

The video embedded in the Infowars story has been removed due to "a violation of YouTube's policy against spam, scams, and commercially deceptive content." Watson's description sounds identical to the video below, also posted on YouTube:

This isn't the only conspiracy theory to develop following Monday's deadly attacks. A photo of a man standing on a roof sparked a frenzy of Twitter speculation Tuesday, which was reported on by such outlets as the New York Daily News and ABC News.

'Pitch Perfect' And 'Snow White And The Huntsman' Are Both Getting Sequels

A Photo Recap Of Muse's Awesome Concert Last Night In NYC

Muse played at Madison Square Garden Monday night to a relatively packed house. The Boston Marathon Bombings might have had something to do with a little bit lower attendance than would be expected, but it was still a great crowd and a thoroughly amazing performance.

At one point lead singer Matthew Bellamy called out "This is for Boston!" and played the  National Anthem.

We took in the show from the East Floor level and thoroughly enjoyed the impressive stage display and effects. The giant inverted and mechanized moving pyramid TV was especially impressive.

The band was tight and in good form, riffing between new songs like "Madness" and old favorites like "Knights of Cydonia" with ease. Fans of both old and new albums should enjoy the mix played. They stayed true to their classics while calling out some of the better tracks from their new album.

So without further delay, here's our trip to the show.

Hollywood Produces Violent Movies Because It's 'Cool'

$

django unchained jamie foxx

The analysis comes from NATO’s John Fithian after he was asked at a press meeting why Hollywood produces so many R-rated films — despite the evidence he presented this morning showing that family friendly films typically fare better at the box office.

“It’s cool to be Quentin Tarrentino,” he says.

While lauding the the First Amendment, giving filmmakers the right to produce what they will, he says that there’s “often a little bit of a difference between the movie making philosophy and the exhibition philosophy” about what sells.

MPAA’s Chris Dodd says that they aren’t that far apart.

For the major studios he represents “less than 50% of our product is R-rated.” Still, he noted that the cost of producing a G-rated film “can be higher than an R-rated movie.”

But he didn’t bite when asked whether films are too violent. "Our job isn’t to be movie critics,” he says.

The execs added that they didn’t think that Hollywood has become too focused on making movies for overseas markets vs domestic. “Movies that are made overseas work domestically too,” Fithian says. “Our companies operate across national lines” notably since China’s Wanda Group bought AMC Entertainment and Cinemark has become a major exhibitor in Latin America.

Dodd noted that Fox’s Life of Pi is from “a Canadian author, a Taiwanese director, and Indian actors supported by an American studio.”

In response to another question, he said that he has not spoken to Chinese officials about their recent decisions to yank showings of Tarrantino’s Django Unchained.

Will Ferrell Has A Fantastic NYC Loft [PHOTOS]

will ferrell

Actor and screenwriter Will Ferrell is not generally thought of as a model of sophistication, given his onscreen personas. After all, this is the man who, during his seven-year stint on Saturday Night Live, delighted viewers as a clueless cheerleader, a chronically head-bopping nightclubber, and a cowbell virtuoso.

Since leaving the program in 2002, Ferrell has made a specialty of playing terminally adolescent characters in a long list of blockbuster movies, from a middle-aged frat brother in Old School to a man-child raised by Santa’s helpers in Elf.

Click here to go inside Will Ferrell's loft >>

That rollicking body of work—which includes cofounding the websitefunnyordie.com and writing his Tony Award–nominated one-man show You’re Welcome America: A Final Night with George W Bush—garnered him the Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize for American Humor in 2011.

But Ferrell’s goofball genius has an urbane flip side. Consider, for instance, the Manhattan pied-à-terre he shares with his Swedish wife, Viveca Paulin-Ferrell—an auctioneer at Los Angeles Modern Auctions—and their three children. Located downtown in a converted Victorian-era printing factory, the nearly 2,800-square-foot loft exudes contemporary refinement, with sleek surfaces and mindfully preserved architectural details serving as a backdrop for 20th-century art and furniture.

Not that the home was always so pristine. When the L.A.–based couple bought the apartment in 2010, the place was in major need of an overhaul. “It was very dark and heavy,” says interior designer Shawn Henderson, whose expertise the pair enlisted even before closing on the property. (Ferrell and his wife had met him through a mutual friend.) Despite the apartment’s obvious flaws—generic cherry built-ins, drab slate wall tiles, glass partitions—everyone saw its potential. “We love history and anything with a good story and good bones,” Paulin-Ferrell says, adding that “it was exciting to think the floors were once covered in ink.” Explains Henderson, “The main task was to brighten up the place as much as possible.”

With that in mind the designer oversaw a dramatic renovation, enhancing the interiors with natural materials and custom finishes. He also replaced the outdated baths and completely redid the kitchen, where fossilized-granite counters and a mottled zinc backsplash now complement satin-finish lacquer cabinetry. The loft’s existing maple floors were whitewashed, a treatment that lends a softly neutral, somewhat Nordic touch.

In many former industrial spaces, structural elements can prove cumbersome, awkwardly interrupting a broad expanse or necessitating clumsy room configurations. Here, Henderson deftly incorporated the original details, such as the exposed-brick arches and the cast-iron columns, one of which helps break up the vast living room, giving the area a more human scale.

For furnishings, the decorator drew largely on the couple’s enviable collection of 1940s and ’50s American and Scandinavian design, much of which Paulin-Ferrell acquired through her work. “Scandinavian design is really moving in its simplicity,” says the auctioneer, who also serves on the board of trustees at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. “Even the parts you don’t see, like the underside of a table or a chair, are thoughtfully conceived.”

Together she and Henderson took inventory of the family’s California home, the designer recalls, “sizing everything up and figuring out what would work in the apartment. It was a real collaboration.” Arranged in front of a minimalist fireplace in the living room are armchairs and ottomans by Hans J. Wegner and Milo Baughman as well as contemporary boulderlike seating by Smarin. Those playful mounds are magnets for the clients’ three young sons—Magnus, age eight, Mattias, six, and Axel, three—and were among Henderson’s new purchases for the residence. Other eye-catching furnishings include modernist sculptures by woodworker Mario Dal Fabbro, whimsical Tejo Remy milk-bottle light fixtures (suspended above a Paul T. Frankl dining table), and a group of graceful walnut counter stools for the open kitchen.

People are always piled up along there,” Henderson says of the kitchen counter, which is a favorite gathering spot not only for the Ferrells’ immediate brood but also for the extended family members who use the apartment. “There are kids everywhere, all the time,” the designer adds. “The idea is, the more the merrier.”

Cheerful accents abound in the home, and the art especially strikes an upbeat tone. Among the array of contemporary works the actor and his wife have accumulated are many brightly colored prints, including depictions of flowers by Donald Sultan, an interior by Roy Lichtenstein, and numerals by Robert Indiana. There’s also an Alexander Calder–inspired weaving splashed with swirling abstract forms in the master bedroom. Echoing the schoolhouse palette of those pieces are nearly a dozen Eames side chairs that artisan Tanya Aguiñiga resurfaced in blue felt and two beds upholstered in a vibrant orange fabric.

“Even though there are these great pops of color, the apartment feels very balanced, very soothing,” Henderson says. And isn’t that, in the end, exactly what a busy Hollywood star would want?

Russell Crowe Sends Superman To Earth In New 'Man of Steel' Trailer

This is the trailer we've been waiting to debut.

After releasing a creepy teaser Sunday, Warner Bros. has revealed the second full-length "Man of Steel" trailer.

Director Zack Snyder ("300") will bring Superman back to the big screen this summer as he's trying to find his place in the world among a wary government, worried citizens, and an angry enemy in General Zod.

Starring Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Russell Crowe, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, and Michael Shannon, the film comes to theaters June 14.

Check it out below:

Unlike past films, we won't see anyone chasing the Man of Steel (Cavill) down with Kryptonite.

Christopher Nolan, who brought us the "Dark Knight" trilogy," helped deliver the screenplay for the film.

And, if we know anything about Nolan, it's that he's all about making superheroes relatable as opposed to cartoonish—look no further than the villain selection for every Batman film (no Mr. Freeze or Poison Ivy in sight).

Instead, danger comes in the form of General Zod (Shannon), a former military general from Superman's home planet of Krypton.

For those unfamilar with the comics, (mini-spoiler) Krypton gets destroyed. Zod, working to establish a "New Kypton," looks to take over Earth.

Now, that you've watched the trailer, here are a few things we learned:

Superman's home planet of Krypton appears to be under war.

For anyone who knows the story, his father, Jor-El (Crowe) sends him off to Earth moments before the planet gets destroyed.

Like Bruce Wayne, Clark Kent finds himself in a dark cave doing some soul searching (except we doubt he'll find any bats and set up a secret lair).

Superman has a dog.

There's a plane crash.

When "Iron Man 3" hits theaters in Japan it will be offered in 4-D

4-D effects make the audience "feel" the effects of the film in addition to viewing them.

The 4-D technology comes from South Korean company CJ Group which manages Asia's largest theater chain.

Theaters featuring the capability can include anything ranging from seat motion and vibration to jets or air and water, mist, strobe lighting, smoke, aromas, and bubbles.

Check out all of the effects here.

4-D isn't new to film.

4d movie effects bubbles"Avatar" was the first film to screen in 4-D in Seoul, South Korea back in 2009.

4-D has been utilized in theaters across South America, Peru, Thailand, and Mexico.

The Los Angeles Times reported last summer that CJ Group will be working to incorporate this into 200 US theaters in the next five years.

The technology takes anywhere from 16-20 days to program the effects into a movie.

The film will premiere in Nagoya, Japan on April 26 in the new format. "Iron Man 3" will be released in the U.S. May 3.

In her softest baby voice, singer Ciara slammed Rihanna in a recent interview by saying "I don’t know what her problem is. I think she’s nuts right now. Like, whatever’s going on, because for me, it doesn’t make any sense.”

In 2011, the two singers publicly fought after Ciara said she ran into Rihanna at a party and she “wasn’t the nicest.”

Rihanna responded on Twitter, snapping, “My bad Ci, did I forget to tip you?”

When asked about the past feud during her most recent interview with Wild 94.9 radio, Ciara added, “I don’t have beef with anybody, but I’m not going to be disrespected either. I wish her well.”

"I don't get it, but I wish her positivity," Ciara added, referring to either the feud or Ri's rekindled romance with Chris Brown.

Meanwhile, Rihanna canceled her most recent tour stop in Houston due to "illness" and has been on-and-off with Chris Brown for all of 2013.

An Exclusive Look On Set Of 'The Amazing Spider-Man' Sequel In NYC

The sequel to "The Amazing Spider-Man" has been filming in New York City the past few days.

Earlier this week, Jamie Foxx was seen walking around in blue makeup as villain Electro. Last night, Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield were filming a romantic scene in Union Square.

The two play couple Gwen Stacy and Peter Parker in the film and are also a couple in real life.

If you're trying to spot filming for the production, it's not simple.

Crew members are telling curious passersby the movie being shot is called "London Calling"; however, anyone following the film will know that's simply the production name for the "Spider-Man" sequel.

The next film in the "Spider-Man" franchise will hit theaters next summer.

Here are some of photos from yesterday:

The crew was setting up to film on the South end of Union Square between 14th and 16th streets off of Broadway.

A small section was gated off near the subway entrance. Crew were stringing trees with what appeared to be Christmas lights. This was around 1:30 p.m.

Farther down, two men were working on a cool chalk mural of a skyscraper scene.

If you look closely, there was a smaller model the two were working off of to render the drawing:

A lone Gelato cart stood by itself near the end of the set.

Bonus points if you notice the piece of cardboard has the fake production title, "London Calling"!

By 6:00 p.m. filming still wasn't underway. The Gelato stand was moved and the mural was complete and blocked off with yellow tape.

The scene depicted an entire fake market, loosely replicating the one that takes place in Union Square come winter.

The stars didn't come out until really late.

There was a big crowd turnout for the shoot.

Stephen Colbert opened up his show last night with a rousing monologue touting the people of Boston's strength and generosity in the wake of an attack that left three dead and more than one hundred wounded.

First, Colbert praised the endurance of the people of Boston. "Whoever did this obviously didn't know s— about the people of Boston [...] Boston was founded by the pilgrims, a people so tough, they had to buckle their goddamn hats on."

Then Colbert highlighted the generosity of several of the marathon runners, who went on to donate blood right after finishing a 26 mile race.

"Here's what I know," he closed, "These maniacs may have tried to make life bad for the people of Boston, but all they can ever do is show how good those people are."

Garth Brooks's Ex-Partner Suing Him For Being 'Paranoid' And 'Deceitful'

$

garth brooks

Country singer Garth Brooks is being sued by his ex-partner for $425,000.

In a lawsuit filed this week in Los Angeles, Brooks' former production partner, Lisa Sanderson, claims she is owed compensation for work with the singer and that he ruined potential movie and television deals costing them millions.

According to the complaint, Sanderson left her employer to begin working for Brooks in '94 under the promise she would split all producer fees paid to his new entertainment company, Red Strokes, in connection with film and TV projects developed and produced 50-50.

In addition, Sanderson claims Brooks promised she would receive $250,000 bonus for "her loyalty and years of service" to him and the Red Strokes in the event the entertainment company ceased operation.

Sanderson says she worked with Brooks for 20 years helping the country music singer gain work on both television and film.

According to the suit, she helped Brooks get a part on "Golden Girls" spinoff "Empty Nests" during one of its final years in '94 and placed Brooks' songs in motion pictures including "To Make You Feel My Love" in "Hope Floats."

Sanderson claims she never received any of her 50% share of the producer fee, and after May 2011, stopped receiving compensation from the Red Strokes, referring to the singer as a "paranoid, angry, deceitful and vindictive man who will turn against those closest to him on a dime."

According to Sanderson, Brooks "ruined every potential motion picture deal" that came to Red Strokes who had a development deal with Disney for live-action and animated films.

Here are a few of the movies Brooks allegedly passed on:

1. "Saving Private Ryan"

Brooks supposedly turned down a role as a sniper in the Steven Spielberg film because he "wanted to be the star" and didn't want to share the spotlight with Tom Hanks and Matt Damon and didn't believe anyone "would ever want to see that movie."

2. "Twister"

Spielberg then supposedly sent the script for the 1996 Oscar-nominated film Brooks' way, but he turned it down because he wouldn't be front and center saying "the star of the film was the tornado."

3. Disney's $1 billion "Alice in Wonderland"

Brooks was set to be a producer on the Tim Burton film alongside Sanderson and record a song for the soundtrack until he demanded to co-write the script with Linda Woolverton.

Sanderson is suing for breach of oral contract and fraud for unpaid salary, bonuses, and punitive damages for a total of $425,000.

Movie Theaters Want To Draw In Hispanic Audiences By Selling 'Takis'

TakisExhibitors are scrambling for ways to draw in ticket buyers with enticements including diversified concessions offerings, they tell me.

The more unique the snack product the better. So here’s one of the smartest new vendors to hit the CinemaCon floor in 2013: Barcel USA, purveyors of the popular Mexican corn chip snacks called Takis.

It’s Barcel’s first year pushing Takis to exhibitors but a rep says interest is high given the product’s popularity and brand recognition in the Hispanic market — the prime moviegoing segment that’s grown to account for 25% of all movies seen last year, according to Nielsen.

In his CinemaCon address Tuesday NATO’s John Fithian singled out the audience segment as “our best customers”. (Even outside the Hispanic demo Takis has some youth awareness thanks to this video that went viral last year.)

5 Huge Movie Roles Garth Brooks Allegedly Turned Down

$

garth brooks

Country singer Garth Brooks is being sued by his former partner for compensation she claims she's owed for work over the past 20 years.

His former partner, Lisa Sanderson, helped the singer get television roles and work in films.

However, you probably don't remember him in too many roles as he just appeared on "Golden Girls" spinoff  "Empty Nest" and served as executive producer on two TV movies.

However, that nearly wasn't the case. Brooks apparently had the opportunity to be in some big Hollywood blockbusters, but turned them down.

In a lawsuit filed, Sanderson, claims the singer "ruined every single film and television opportunity presented" to his company, Red Strokes.

Sanderson says the singer refused to work with award-winning actors, writers, and directors including Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks.

He also thought "he could do a better job writing the material himself."

"Saving Private Ryan" (1998)

Brooks turned down a role as a sniper in the Steven Spielberg film because he wasn't the star and didn't believe anyone wanted to see the film.

"Brooks refused to accept the role, indicating that he wanted to be the star and was unwilling to share the limelight with the rest of the ensemble cast ... Tom Hanks, Matt Damon, and Edward Burns."

(Source: Sanderson Complaint)

"Twister" (1996)

The singer passed on the role after being sent the script from Spielberg because, again, he didn't believe he was the star.

"Brooks also passed on that film, saying the star of the film was the tornado and Brooks wanted to be the star."

(Source: Sanderson Complaint)

A potential $30-$40 million project for Fox.

Long before "Nashville" hit ABC, Brooks reportedly pitched a show about a rockstar called "The Lamb."

Sanderson says Fox loved the idea, but it didn't move forward because he "refused to share his music publishing with Fox."
