19 of the best secret categories on Netflix and how to find them

netflix categories

Netflix has an insane amount of content, but it's not always easy to find what you want.

The categories Netflix gives you access to are broad, which is made more frustrating by the knowledge that Netflix splits movies and TV shows into incredibly specific micro-categories.

Luckily, it's pretty easy to access those ultra-specific categories. All are tagged with a number — for example, "Epics" is category No. 52858. And once you have that code, to get a comprehensive list all you do is type it into your address bar after the word "genre," like this: http://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/52858.

Screen Shot 2016 01 12 at 9.48.54 AM

We decided to look through the list of secret Netflix genres to find you 19 of the most interesting ones. The ones we chose are a mixture of awesome, random, and just plain weird.

James Gandolfini was originally supposed to be in HBO's most acclaimed new show 'The Night Of'

The Night Of James Gandolfini

Three years after his death, James Gandolfini's passion project premiered, and it's thriving.

"The Night Of" is an eight-part miniseries that airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on HBO. It currently has a 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The series was previously titled "Criminal Justice" and is based on a BBC series of that same name. It follows Naz (Riz Ahmed), a straight-laced Pakistani-American student who finds himself in the middle of a murder case after his one-night fling with a strange woman ends in her brutal death.

Gandolfini was in an unaired pilot of the show in 2013. He played Jack Stone, the lawyer who represents Naz. Around May 2013, HBO gave the series the greenlight, according to The New York Times. But the actor's life was cut short when he died of a sudden heart attack in a Rome hotel in June 2013. He was 51.

Robert De Niro had signed on to replace Gandolfini but backed out due to scheduling conflicts, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Then John Turturro was offered the starring role. Turturro knew Gandolfini, who starred in his passion project, 2005's "Romance & Cigarettes." (Watch the "Sopranos" star sing "A Man Without Love" in the film.)

"I was friends with him," Turturro told The New York Times. "I went to his wedding. I went to his funeral."

After Turturro wrote to Gandolfini's widow, he signed on, reassured that Gandolfini had only a minor appearance in the unaired pilot so there wasn't much to "erase," Turturro told The Times.

"[Gandolfini] very much wanted to do it and I wanted him to do it," Steven Zaillian, who is a cocreator of the series, told The Hollywood Reporter. "But as much as I would have loved to have done it with Jim, this has really become [Turturro's] part. They're both great actors."

While Turturro has gotten rave reviews of his performance, Gandolfini's name is still in the credits, listed as an executive producer.

The new 'Ben-Hur' has the most dismal box office opening of any blockbuster this summer

Ben Hur Paramount Pictures

It looks like that faith-based audience, which in the past has brought profits to many Christian-focused titles over the years (or at least made them break even), did not come through for Paramount's $100-million-budgeted retelling of "Ben-Hur."

The swords-and-sandals epic that follows a Jewish prince's journey for revenge (and in this rendition of the Lew Wallace novel, with much larger Jesus subplot), took in a measly $11.4 million, according to Variety.

For comparison, Paramount's last religious-focused project, 2014's "Noah," opened with $43.7 million and went on to make $362.6 million worldwide.

Though "Ben-Hur" director Timur Bekmambetov ("Wanted," "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter") delivered some above-average action sequences, it wasn't enough, as the movie's 29% rating on Rotten Tomatoes kept audiences away.

With little competition, "Suicide Squad" was able to win the weekend box office for a third straight week. Its $20.7 million take gives the movie a domestic total of $262 million to date.

In second place was another holdover, the R-rated animated comedy "Sausage Party," which took in $15.3 million. (Only a 55% drop in sales from their opening weekend last week.)

In third was the Jonah Hill/Miles Teller-starring new release "War Dogs," with $14.3 million.

WWE legend Mick Foley reveals what Vince McMahon is really like

MICK FOLEY 1Tonight, WWE returns to Barclays Center in Brooklyn for Summerslam, one of the company's biggest pay-per-view events of the year.

Following the broadcast of Summerslam, the WWE Network will debut the premiere episode of the reality series "Holy Foley," starring WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley.

Foley recently took over as the general manager of "Monday Night Raw," which airs weekly on USA. He regularly appears on the show, where one of his main roles is deciding on which performers will square off against each other during the show.

In a phone interview with Foley, I asked him what it's like to work with WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, who still oversees almost every creative decision that goes into what ends up on TV.

"I've always told him and always felt that he's on the level of US Presidents," Foley said of McMahon.

"I don't think he understands that other human beings need to sleep. I've been told at 3, 3:30 in the morning, Mr. McMahon will give a call and (say) 'hey, pal' and have an idea ... His work ethic is unparalleled, and I think we all learn from his example."

When so much of the creative direction of such a large company depends on the opinion of one man, it might be intimidating for a performer new to the roster to attempt to get face time with the extremely busy chairman. I asked Foley if this is true, and if McMahon's door is indeed open to employees who want some one-on-one time with the boss.

"He is an intimidating presence. He's a larger-than-life superhero in some sense. But it's really important for everyone to have some type of relationship with him," Foley said. "He wants you to knock on his door and ask for some of his time. He wants to set up appointments. He wants to know how you feel about things.

"I tell people the most important move they can make is not in the ring. It's taking the time to get to know Mr. McMahon."

Is this a new, slimmer PlayStation 4?

PlayStation 4 Slim Neo (leak)

If you ask us, it looks an awful lot like the real thing. Here's a shot of the undercarriage, which has the characteristic PlayStation gamepad symbols:

PlayStation 4 Neo Slim (leak)

In case you didn't know, Sony's just a few weeks short of announcing a brand new PlayStation 4— the so-called PlayStation 4 "Neo." Sony's acknowledged its existence in a single interview with the Financial Times, calling the system a "high-end" PlayStation 4. Leaks detailed the system as slightly more powerful than the current PlayStation 4, enabling it to output higher-resolution 4K games (the successor to high-definition).

Notably, this doesn't seem to be the "Neo" system, but another console altogether that Sony's never talked about. Sony has a history of shrinking each generation of its PlayStation game consoles over time (the PlayStation 2 came in three different versions, for instance), so there's certainly precedent. Microsoft just released a slimmer version of its Xbox One console, dubbed the "Xbox One S." This could be the PlayStation 4 equivalent of that.

Here's a look at the slimmer PlayStation 4 system stacked on top of the original PlayStation 4, care of one Twitter user who claims to have purchased the system:

Where the system you see above is showing up, however, is perhaps the strangest thing of all: an eBay-owned classifieds site called Gumtree that operates in Britan.

One gentleman on Twitter apparently bought the system and is already using it at home:

There's even a current Gumtree listing for another system, though the one where the image above came from has apparently been removed. What in the world is going on? That's a great question. It looks like at least a handful of the new PlayStation 4 consoles are available in the UK. Sony representatives didn't respond to request for comment as of publishing (it's Sunday, in fairness).

Snowden trailer final

As we say goodbye to a summer-movie season full of slumps, it's time to get into the more serious fall titles that will bring powerful performances and, perhaps, some Oscar gold.

This fall includes anticipated movies like the all-star cast in the reboot of "The Magnificent Seven," Oliver Stone's "Snowden," and Tom Hanks playing the Miracle on the Hudson pilot in the Clint Eastwood movie "Sully."

There are also smaller films that should have your attention like the Sundance hit "The Birth of a Nation" and the powerful "The Light Between Oceans."

Here are 26 movies coming out in the coming months that you should not miss.

"The Light Between Oceans" - September 2

Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander prove they are two of the top actors working today as they play a couple whose lives crumble after rescuing a baby adrift in a rowboat. Based on the M.L. Stedman novel of the same name, the movie is a visually stunning look at sacrifice.

"Max Rose" - September 2

This is Jerry Lewis' first leading movie role since Martin Scorsese's "The King of Comedy" in the 80s. The now-90-year-old legend delivers an emotionally charged dramatic performance as a jazz musician who struggles with the death of his wife and the possibility that she was unfaithful to him.

"Morgan" - September 2

In this thriller Kate Mara ("Fantastic Four") plays a risk-management consultant who has to determine whether to terminate an artificial being who was created in a lab.

This all but confirms the new PlayStation 4 is real

There's a new, slimmer PlayStation 4 game console. Sony hasn't announced it, or even acknowledged that it exists.

That said, at least one person in the United Kingdom already has one.

PlayStation 4 Slim

Wait, what? Really!

Over the weekend, British classifieds site Gumtree had multiple listings (since removed) for a new, unannounced video game console: the PlayStation 4 Slim. One eagle-eyed gentleman bid on and purchased a console from the listings, and the console you see here is the result:

PlayStation 4 Slim Neo (leak)

For reference, here's what that new PS4 looks like compared to the current PlayStation 4, which is directly below it in this tweet:

Still, even with photos of a very legit-looking game console, people online were divided over whether the console was real. Eurogamer confirmed the veracity of the PlayStation 4 Slim in a video, where the console is shown booting up — the folks at Eurogamer straight-up visited the guy who bought it.

PlayStation 4 Slim

That video has since been taken down, but the image above is a still from it. Eurogamer cites "legal advice" for having removed the video; no other explanation is given.

For its part, Sony has yet to reveal the console. Sony has, however, spoken of another upcoming PlayStation 4 console. In case you didn't know, Sony's just a few weeks short of announcing a brand new PlayStation 4 — the so-called PlayStation 4 "Neo." Sony's acknowledged its existence in a single interview with the Financial Times, calling the system a "high-end" PlayStation 4. Leaks detailed the system as slightly more powerful than the current PlayStation 4, enabling it to output higher-resolution 4K games (the successor to high-definition).

Notably, this leaked PS4 doesn't seem to be the "Neo" system, but another console altogether that Sony's never talked about.

For now, we can't be sure — Sony's staying mum.

Investigators found the drug that killed Prince in counterfeit pills in his home — and it's part of a much bigger problem with painkillers

FILE - In this May 19, 2013 file photo, Prince performs at the Billboard Music Awards at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Several pills taken from Prince's estate in Paisley Park after his death were counterfeit drugs that actually contained fentanyl,a synthetic opioid 50 times more powerful than heroin, an official close to the investigation said Sunday, Aug. 21, 2016. (Photo by Chris Pizzello/Invision/AP, File)

Fentanyl, the drug that tragically killed musical genius Prince, is an opioid painkiller that's 50 times stronger than pure heroin.

The drug is legal and can be prescribed by a doctor for a variety of conditions — most often to treat severe pain.

Prince did not have a prescription for any such drugs in the year before he died, according to the Associated Press.

But while Prince's cause of death was originally listed simply as "self-administered fentanyl," new information from investigators is complicating that picture.

On August 21, investigators told the AP that one source of the fentanyl they found in Prince's body may have been fake pain pills which contained fentanyl but were labeled as something else.

The investigators told the AP they discovered two dozen pills in an Aleve bottle in Prince's home that had been labeled "Watson 385," a stamp used to ID pills that contain a mix of two other pain-relieving medications: hydrocodone (another powerful opioid painkiller) and acetaminophen (the active ingredient in Tylenol). When they tested the pills, at least one came up positive for fentanyl.

Counterfeit painkillers: A growing and deadly problem

Since fentanyl is so much stronger than hydrocodone, it ostensibly requires far less to deliver the same effect. As a result, counterfeit drug makers often swap whatever they're claiming to sell for fentanyl. The problem has worsened in recent years as deaths from drug overdoses related to painkillers continues to skyrocket. In July, the DEA released a report warning of counterfeit fentanyl pills disguised as common prescription drugs like Norco (hydrocodone), Percocet (oxycodone), and Xanax (alprazolam).

Still, fentanyl belongs to the larger class of drugs that includes these prescription drugs. And regardless of their individual strength, all of these drugs work by capitalizing on our body's natural pain-relief system, which — in high enough doses — can result in a surging sense of euphoria. Since 1999, overdose deaths involving opioid painkillers have quadrupled. In 2014 alone, more than 14,000 people died from overdoses involving the drugs.

Tests on Prince before his death didn't show any fentanyl in his system, suggesting that he wasn't a long-time fentanyl user and instead probably took the fatal dose sometime in the 24 hours before his death, the AP official said.

NBC's Olympics had a 'nightmare' drop in ratings — here's how it could fix the problem

Rio Olympics Closing Ceremony

The festive Rio Olympics closing ceremony failed to lift the games' generally sagging ratings and showed that NBC could probably stand to change its game plan for the future.

According to Deadline, the audience for Sunday night's event was down from the closing ceremonies of both the London 2012 and Beijing 2008 Summer Games. In early metered market numbers, Rio's closer earned an 11.7 rating, 31% lower than London 2012's.

NBCUniversal CEO Steve Burke previously said a 20% drop in ratings for the Olympics would be a "nightmare," as Bloomberg reported. That seems to have more than come true.

Further ratings information, including total viewership, will be available later Monday.

Suffice it to say, these games weren't quite the gold standard that NBC was expecting. That has led many to wonder whether the Olympics broadcast needs a fresh approach.

Variety co-editor-in-chief Andrew Wallenstein suggested that NBC highlight this year's big Olympic stars after the games so viewers can really bond themselves to the athletes, rather than having their recognition fall off after the games. He also said the network should highlight the training and competitions in between the Olympic Games more.

"That longer lead time not only creates more entry points for fans to get hooked on the Olympics, it better establishes the incredible stakes involved in athletes who train and compete for the entirety of their lives to get that one shot at a medal," Wallenstein wrote.

Live TV ratings are also down across the board, however, because of delayed-viewing platforms like DVR, online, and streaming apps.

And as Business Insider's Nathan McAlone pointed out previously, there is a silver lining.

"NBC has had about 24% more people who streamed the Rio Olympics through NBC's app and website than streamed the London Games over the same period," he wrote.

Halle Berry Kidnap 3

Halle Berry is not a mom you want to mess with in the trailer for her latest movie.

The first look at Berry's latest kidnapping thriller, aptly named "Kidnap," is now out via an exclusive to USA Today.

Berry plays Karla McCoy, a mother who will stop at nothing to rescue her son after he is kidnapped at a park. Instead of filing a report and waiting, Berry's character takes action and enters into what looks like an epic car chase that will at one point see her driving backwards on a highway.

"Being a parent, I understood this in a very visceral way. I play an ordinary mom forced to act in extraordinary ways," Berry told USA Today. "I got to put in a little of what Halle Berry would do in this situation. That was fun."

Berry actually drove during the chase scenes as a stunt driver controlled the maneuvers from a roof pod. So those petrified expressions are real.

"Driving backward in highway traffic, that was a first for me," Berry told USA Today. "That looking-back visual of cars speeding toward you at 80 miles per hour, your heart leaves your body."

This is the first lead film role Berry has done since 2013's "The Call," which was coincidentally also a thriller about Berry trying to help rescue a kidnapped teen.

"You took the wrong kid," Berry says in the trailer before she ferociously attacks the likely kidnapper with a shovel.

Katie Couric once took a $1 million cut in her salary to save other people's jobs

Katie Couric

During tough financial times, you'll want Katie Couric in your corner.

According to the New York Post, a new book about mega-agency CAA, "Powerhouse: The Untold Story of Hollywood’s Creative Artists Agency," reveals that the veteran newswoman took a $1 million pay cut while she was at CBS in order to save other employees' jobs.

Couric, who hosted the CBS Evening News from 2006 to 2011, didn't want the voluntary salary cut publicized or acknowledged publicly or privately.

The cut, however, went directly toward saving positions that would've otherwise been terminated.

The revelation was recounted by agent Alan Berger. Here's a look at the passage, as per the New York Post:

“In the third year of Katie’s tenure . . . upcoming budget cuts would involve significant layoffs . . . from senior-level producers to young associate producers — all key contributors to the production of the daily newscast.”

“Katie decided . . . to take matters into her own hands” and “voluntarily, and quietly, agreed to cut her CBS salary by over $1 million, creating a savings to preserve the jobs of her associates on the broadcast.”

At the time, she reportedly made $15 million a year for the anchor position.

Couric is currently the Global News Anchor for Yahoo. She reportedly earns $10 million a year at the media company.

Ian McKellan could have made $1.5 million if only he had agreed to officiate Sean Parker's "Lord of the Rings" themed wedding — dressed as Gandalf.

According to a new interview with The Daily Mail, Ian McKellan, who plays Gandalf in the LOTR movies, was offered the massive sum to officiate the Napster founder and Facebook billionaire's over-the-top wedding to singer-songwriter Alexandra Lenas in 2013. He almost agreed until he was told he's have to go dressed as Gandalf.

"So I said, 'I am sorry, Gandalf doesn’t do weddings,'" McKellan told The Daily Mail.

Parker's extraordinarily lavish wedding made headlines at the time, since he reportedly spent $4.5 million to create a magical world at a campsite in Big Sur, California, complete with goats, a pen of bunnies, a pony, a feast laid on top of white fur and a 9-foot-tall wedding cake. Guests were provided with Tolkien-style "modern and whimsical" costumes made especially for the ceremony by Academy Award-winning designer Ngila Dickson.

Parker faced backlash after the event, since he installed temporary structures in an ecologically sensitive area without obtaining the correct permits from the California Coastal Commission. He later agreed to a $2.5 million settlement with the commission.

Marvel Iron Man Riri Williams

In July, Marvel announced that Tony Stark is retiring as Iron Man, and now the superhero name itself is also being laid to rest.

Riri Williams, the black female 15-year-old MIT student who is replacing Stark as the character, will be calling herself Ironheart when her series debuts in November, according to Wired's interview with the writer, Brian Michael Bendis.

Williams will take over in "Invincible Iron Man #1," a new volume of the current Iron Man Marvel Comics series.

Williams and Stark have actually met in the current series.

The new name Ironheart has a lot of thought behind it.

"Iron Woman seemed old-fashioned to some," Bendis told Wired. “Iron Maiden looked like a legal nightmare."

Finally, it was Marvel's chief creative officer Joe Quesada who coined the ultimate name.

"Ironheart... speaks not only to the soul of the character but to the Iron Man franchise as a whole," Bendis told Wired. "Tony first put on the armor to save his heart. Riri puts it on for different reasons altogether but still heart-related. When people see her story, you’ll be amazed at how simple and brilliant Joe’s suggestion was."

Fans are outraged at the newest 'Metal Gear' game — here's why

$

0

Last week, the first trailer for "Metal Gear Survive," a new entry in the long-beloved "Metal Gear" video game series, hit the web. Coming off the rave reviews of the series' previous game, "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain," you'd think fans of the series would be ecstatic to jump back into the "Metal Gear" world.

That's decidedly not what's happening.

Instead, the trailer for "Metal Gear Survive" is triggering outrage amongst its dedicated fanbase, because it's just the latest in a string of events that "Metal Gear" fans perceive to be the gross mishandling of one of gaming's most iconic franchises.

Bad blood

The majority of this outrage stems from the tumultuous relationship between the series' auteur, Hideo Kojima, and Konami, the company that publishes "Metal Gear" games as well as other video game classics like "Castlevania" and "Silent Hill."

metal gear solid 5In the time leading up to the release of "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" in September 2015, it was clear that something was amiss between Kojima and Konami. In March of that year, references to Kojima's production company were removed from promotional materials for "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain," and someone within the company claimed Kojima would be leaving Konami after the game was released.

In 2014, Konami released a short demo for horror game called "PT," which was eventually revealed to be a reboot of the iconic "Silent Hill" series, a project Kojima was working on with filmmaker Guillermo del Toro and "Walking Dead" actor Norman Reedus. The demo was met with near-universal acclaim, but just a few weeks after the aforementioned report of Kojima's departure from Konami surfaced, "Silent Hills" was officially cancelled.

Additionally, it was reported that Konami barred Kojima from attending the 2015 Game Awards, where "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" garnered five nominations and two awards, including Best Action/Adventure Game.

Really, Kojima's departure from Konami is a symptom of Konami's pivot away from big-budget console games in general. Instead, it's focusing on making Pachinko machines — which are popular Japanese arcade/gambling devices similar to slot machines — and on cheaper mobile games.

"Metal Gear Survive"

Metal Gear SurviveThat brings us back to the recent reveal of "Metal Gear Survive," Konami's first "Metal Gear" game developed without Kojima. The multiplayer-only game will be sold for $30 instead of the $60 price tag usually associated with console games, leading many fans to believe it will be a cheap cash grab rather than a sequel worthy of the "Metal Gear" name.

Essentially, hardcore fans realize that what makes the "Metal Gear" series so special is Kojima's unique artistic vision, not the Konami brand. Fans are loyal to Kojima, not "Metal Gear" in and of itself.

In response to the negative reaction to "Metal Gear Survive," Robert Allan Peer, online community manager for Konami, has been engaging with fans over Twitter. He understands the backlash, saying "Metal Gear Survive" needs to "prove itself for sure."

Peer seems to think that as more of "Metal Gear Survive" is revealed, more fans will come to embrace it, but many remain unsympathetic to a post-Kojima-era Konami.

Amongst those closed off to Konami's latest offering might be Norman Reedus himself. After the reveal of Kojima's current project — called "Death Stranding," in which Reedus stars— he posted a photoshopped image of Kojima drinking from a mug emblazoned with the text, "Konami tears."

It's a terrible time to buy a new PlayStation 4

If you're thinking about buying a new PlayStation 4 this week, don't.

Despite Sony having already moved over 40 million PlayStation 4 game consoles, the Japanese hardware maker is hoping you're ready for at least one of two new PlayStation 4 consoles currently in production.

First up, the PlayStation 4 Slim — a slimmer version of the same PlayStation 4 you already own. Sony's yet to announce this guy, but at least one gamer in the UK already has one

PlayStation 4 Slim Neo (leak)

An editor from Eurogamer even visited the gentleman who bought this one and confirmed it's legit; the console boots up like a standard PlayStation 4. And, in all ways except for looks, it seems to be exactly that: a standard PlayStation 4.

Sony's got a long history of shrinking its PlayStation consoles, from the original PlayStation through to the PlayStation 3. This would be the first form factor change for the PlayStation 4 since it launched back in 2013.

But that's not all!

There's yet another PlayStation 4 in the works, and it's more than just a new form factor. It's got a sweet codename — "Neo" — and it's capable of powering 4K gaming (the successor to high-definition gaming). This is the one that Sony officially announced (after months of leaks) in an interview this summer with The Financial Times.

Sony president Andrew House calls the "Neo" console a "high-end" PlayStation 4. Unlike the Slim, though, it's not intended as a replacement for the current PlayStation 4. "It is intended to sit alongside and complement the standard PS4. We will be selling both through the life cycle," House told The Financial Times.

In the context of what we know now, it looks like House means that the new "high-end" PlayStation 4 will be sold alongside the Slim (which will replace the original PlayStation 4 console). As history dictates, it's very likely that the PlayStation 4 Slim will cost the same as the current model PlayStation 4 that it's replacing: $349.

In the process, Sony's guaranteed to drop the price of the original PlayStation 4 — retailers will want the shelf space for the new slimmer PlayStation 4, to say nothing of the upcoming PlayStation VR headset launching this October. Regardless we'll learn a lot more very soon; even though Sony's not saying anything right now, the company has a New York City "PlayStation Meeting" event coming up in just a few weeks.

But in the meantime? If you're thinking about buying a new PlayStation 4 this week, don't.

stranger things actress shave head

Twelve-year-old actress Millie Bobby Brown has become famous thanks to playing Eleven, the girl with special powers on the hit Netflix show "Stranger Things."

But she had to let go of her long locks for the role.

Brown shaved her head, and of course it was filmed. She tweeted a video of the experience, set to the Beyoncé song "Pretty Hurts."

Though it was likely hard for her to do, it was certainly easier than anything Eleven has to go through while in the care of Dr. Martin Brenner on Netflix's gripping, satisfying, and very '80s-heavy series.

Check out the actress letting go of her hair below:

Half of them come from the 2016 Games in Rio, but the rest are from the Winter Games in Sochi two years ago and the 2012 Games in London.

Ranging from Adidas' Queen singalong with Great Britain to P&G's heart-wrenching "Thank You, Mom," here are the Olympic-themed ads that have been passed along the most.

Fans have come up with a mind-blowing theory about the monster in 'Stranger Things'

Warning: Major spoilers ahead if you have not finished the first season of "Stranger Things."

"Stranger Things" has cemented its cult status.

How? Now its fans are creating mind-blowing theories one can often find for shows such as "Game of Thrones."

Netflix's hit new sci-fi thriller debuted about one month ago but has left us with a lot of unanswered burning questions. For example, what is the origin of the monster and what happened to Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown)?

This one fan theory says those answers might be linked.

The show has already revealed that Eleven is the reason the monster, dubbed the Demogorgon from "Dungeons and Dragons," exists — it's the result of the torture placed on her due to Dr. Brenner's (Matthew Modine) experiments.

But what if their connection runs deeper? This theory points out a lot of interesting connections between Elle and the Demogorgon, which the theory suggests is actually a manifestation of all of her fear and terror and therefore a part of Elle herself.

Among its many references, "Stranger Things" mentions the "X-Men #134" comic, in which Jean Grey is overwhelmed by her dark side and transforms into the incredibly powerful and evil Phoenix. The Demogorgon could be the Phoenix to Elle's Jean Grey.

Most notably, the Demogorgon's Upside Down world and Elle's real-life world are mirror images just as they themselves are mirror images — shown most explicitly in their final confrontation when Elle raises her hand to the monster and it raises its own hand in return (see the photo above).

So if Elle is still alive and eating Eggo waffles, the Demogorgon might still be running around causing terror, too.

Netflix still hasn't officially renewed "Stranger Things" for season two, but we're pretty sure it's coming, along with the answer to whether the Eleven/monster theory holds any weight.
