Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen are in an empire state of mind.

The power couple joins a slew of celebrities, including Taylor Swift, Jennifer Lawrence, and Bradley Cooper, who all have residences in Manhattan's chic Tribeca neighborhood.

Page Six reports that the New England Patriots QB and his supermodel wife are in the process of purchasing a $20 million apartment overlooking the Hudson River. The couple is reportedly in contract to buy a 5,000-square-foot apartment inside 70 Vestry, a luxurious new building designed by Robert A.M. Stern.

According to Page Six, the apartment includes five bedrooms and a spacious terrace, and its high elevation offers fantastic views of the city. And while the couple currently resides at an apartment in One Madison in the Flatiron District, they will likely move out in 2018, when 70 Vestry is completed.

A spokesperson for 70 Vestry declined to comment.

Odds are Tom and Gisele were attracted to this very private entry. The cobblestone driveway is a rare find in the city, and there's no better way to make a grand entrance.

Inside the 14-story building, the couple can make use of the 82-foot lap pool and cycling, yoga, and pilates studios. There's also a squash court, sauna, and steam room.

70 Vestry will feature 47 units, although it's not clear which one the couple has selected. Sources told Page Six the apartment is on a high floor.

Fans seriously want to shut down Rotten Tomatoes for 'unfair' reviews of 'Suicide Squad'

Will Smith Suicide Squad

With a current rating of 33% on Rotten Tomatoes, "Suicide Squad" looks like it won't be the rebound DC Comics and Warner Bros. were hoping for following the reaction to their last superhero movie, "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."

And though it's likely the movie will have a huge opening this weekend that breaks the record for biggest August opening ever (currently held by "Guardians of the Galaxy" with $94.3 million), some fans still don't want the negativity from critics infecting their experience.

A petition to shut down the review aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes has been created on Change.org. While the petition creator acknowledges that it has no power to actually shut down the site, over 11,000 supporters have signed it as of Wednesday morning. And many of them are quite earnest in their effort.

The petition states:

"We need this site to be shut down because It's Critics always give The DC Extended Universe movies unjust Bad Reviews, Like

1- Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice 2016

2- Suicide Squad 2016

and that Affects people's opinion even if it's a really great movies"

Comments taking the mission to heart include:

“Thanks for starting this campaign, we are with you…”

“Is there a way to completely shut them ????”

"they give unfair reviews all the time, bias at most times"

fantastic beasts

While the release of its "Suicide Squad" gets some negative critical reaction, Warner Bros. is eagerly moving to conversation to its future franchise.

The studio announced that the sequel to "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," the Harry Potter spin-off movie that is out November 18 this year, will hit theaters on November 16, 2018, according to CNN.

The sequel is not yet titled, and while you may think it's odd to announce a release date for a sequel when the first movie isn't out yet, that is the way things are in the current studio environment.

Original Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling wrote the screenplay for "Fantastic Beasts" and will do the same for the next movie.

"Fantastic Beasts," starring Oscar-winning English actor Eddie Redmayne as a wizarding writer, is a prequel of sorts to the Harry Potter series.

The original Harry Potter movies brought in about $8 billion at the global box office for WB, so you can see why the studio is eager to get more out of them.

The making of 'Suicide Squad' was even more chaotic than anyone realized

suicide squad

The making of "Suicide Squad" was as unfocused and disjointed as the movie turned out to be.

In a behind-the-scenes look at the production, The Hollywood Reporter reveals that major decisions about the tone and structure were made by the movie's studio Warner Bros. in response to the negative reaction to WB's previous superhero movie, "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."

This included the studio hiring the company Trailer Park, which was behind the popular "Suicide Squad" trailers, to cut a version of the full movie while director David Ayer was cutting his own version.

"Kevin was really pissed about damage to the brand," a source told THR, referring to Warner Bros. chief Kevin Tsujihara's response to negative "Batman v Superman" press.

In May, Ayer's more "somber version," as THR calls it, and the studio's "lighter" version were screened to test audiences in Northern California. The studio's version with more characters introduced earlier in the movie and dazzling graphics won out, though Ayer was cooperative with the process, according to THR.

This is just the latest example of a blockbuster movie that seemed to have a lack of focus.

david ayer suicide squad warner brosAyer only had six weeks to write the script in order to stay on production schedule for the planned release date. And there were reshoots to give the movie the more fun tone that couldn't be accomplished by the Trailer Park edit.

"Suicide Squad" star Jai Courtney told Business Insider that the reshoot stories were overblown, however.

"The rumors around us having to inject levity into it and all this s---," Courtney said. "It was silly because the movie already had all that."

Though he did admit that the ending was redone.

"We were just doing stuff with Enchantress," he said. "We did things that introduced stuff earlier that they wanted to get rid of basically. Changing her ability to engage with the squad, they enhanced that interaction. It was normal. It was strengthening the ending. The original [ending] we shot was dope, it was just adding to it, not doing an alternative."

Reshoots are fairly common on large-budget films, but regardless of what was added after principal photography, it looked to have taken a toll on Ayer. He was directing his first tentpole. In June, he fired his longtime agent at CAA, though the agency won him back a day later.

"He was under a lot — a lot — of pressure," a source told THR.

Ayer has stayed positive in public. He took part in the film's press junket and responded to the negative reviews with these tweets:

Stephen Colbert savagely attacks Donald Trump for his latest gaffes

colbert trump

In a searing, eight-minute monologue on Tuesday night's "Late Show," Stephen Colbert ripped into Donald Trump for his most recent series of public gaffes — the combination of which has reportedly left his campaign on the verge of imploding

Colbert started the show by criticizing Trump's response to the resignation of Fox News Chairman and CEO Roger Ailes, following claims of sexual harrasment from more than 10 of his female employees.

"When asked how he would feel if his daughter, Ivanka, were sexual harrassed," Colbert pointed out, "Trump said, 'I would like to think she would find another career or find another company if that was the case.'"

The "Late Show" host alluded to the fact that Ivanka wouldn't be the victim of sexual assault since she's always worked for her father. Then, pushing his criticism further, Colbert cut to a clip of Trump from 2006, with the current Republican presidential nominee saying, "If Ivanka weren't my daughter, perhaps I'd be dating her."

Over the course of the monologue, Colbert joked about a number of Trump's other recent missteps — including his boasting about receiving a Purple Heart from a veteran while Trump himself avoided the Vietnam War draft, his tweeting a picture of eating KFC with silverware on an airplane, and finally, his decision to kick a crying baby out of one of his rallies

"Get out of here, you crying baby!" Colbert mocked Trump. "If that crying baby wants to stay here, it needs to act like an adult. Because when we adults listen to Trump, we weep silently."

'Gilmore Girls' fans think there's a major clue that someone's having a baby

Gilmore Girls

There might be a third generation of "Gilmore Girls" when the show comes back on Netflix this fall.

The official Instagram account for the show posted a photograph of an alluring pile of Pop-Tarts, which also featured heavily in the first trailer for the revival, but what really got fans attention was the inclusion of an apple, because it might be hinting that somebody is going to get pregnant.

"Gilmore Girls" established that the only time Lorelai Gilmore craves apples is when she's pregnant. She was craving them back when she was pregnant with Rory, and got freaked out that she might have gotten pregnant with Luke's child when she started to hunger for the fruit while waiting for Sookie to give birth. That ended up being a false alarm, but apples are so strongly tied to pregnancy in the show that it's fair to assume the people running the Instagram account knew what they were doing.

Pop-Tart appetizers to hold us over 'till the pizza comes. And one apple.

A photo posted by @gilmoregirls on Aug 2, 2016 at 11:31am PDT on

There was a pregnancy hint in the first trailer too. Lorelai was wearing a shirt that said "I'm with human," which certainly seems a lot more meaningful now that we have this second piece of baby evidence.

Screen_Shot_2016 08 03_at_10_35_01_AM

The Netflix revival is going to span an entire year, which is plenty of time to show a pregnancy come to term. Perhaps Lorelai will have a second child, or maybe Rory will get pregnant, giving Emily Gilmore a great-granddaughter. Or — gasp! — could there be a Gilmore guy!?

We'll find out when "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life" drops on November 25.

Gilmore Girls cameos

"Gilmore Girls" launched a lot of careers.

Stars Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel both went on to other successful projects ("Parenthood" and "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants," respectively) and became notable names. Jared Padalecki is still starring on the long-running, cult hit "Supernatural."

Liza Weil has a successful partnership with Shonda Rhimes, appearing in every Shondaland show. Any good WB viewer would have already recognized Danny Strong from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," but now the actor is known for cocreating "Empire."

And, of course, there's Melissa McCarthy, one of the biggest names in comedy now.

Before they made it big on their own, dozens of other famous names could also be seen on the hit WB/CW show that will soon be revived on Netflix. The parts were small but look big now.

Check out these 20 famous actors, from Jon Hamm to Seth MacFarlane, who appeared on "Gilmore Girls" before they broke out.

Jon Hamm: Season 3, Episode 5

Before he was Don Draper, Hamm played Peyton Sanders, a man Lorelai (Graham) meets at an auction (she eventually gets his number). Unfortunately, his charms didn’t work as well on “Gilmore Girls” as they did on “Mad Men.”

Krysten Ritter: Season 7

Before she was “Jessica Jones” and the “B---- in Apartment 23,” Ritter was just Lucy, Rory’s (Bledel) friend from Yale. Ritter showed promise in this role — more so than in her “Veronica Mars” stint the year before — but her character was bogged down in a weird storyline about her boyfriend keeping his non-relationship with Rory a secret.

Danny Pudi: Season 6, Episodes 13 and 14; Season 7, Episodes 6 and 7

The “Community” star is fairly well-known now, but back in 2006, he was Raj, a contributor for The Yale Daily News who gifted Rory a giant blue pencil on her last day as editor.

The creator of PokéVision says Niantic is ignoring the wishes of 'Pokémon GO' players

"Pokémon GO" recently received a big update, and players are not happy.

Along with the removal of the long-broken "Nearby" menu that was supposed to show players how far they were from specific Pokémon, Niantic Labs — the creators of "Pokémon GO" — sent a number of cease and desist letters to third-party sites like PokeVision that helped alleviate this problem.

Essentially, these sites intercepted the game's data to display exactly where Pokémon were located on a map, creating a more detailed version of what the "Nearby" menu was supposed to do from the get-go.

grand army plaza pokevision pokemon go

So, did Niantic do the right thing by shutting down sites like PokéVision? According to Yang Liu, the creator of PokéVision, the answer is "probably not." In fact, Liu says by shutting down PokéVision, Niantic is ignoring the needs of its players.

Liu wrote an open letter to Niantic on Medium, some of which we've excerpted below (emphasis ours):

"Could it just be possible that the tracker — no matter if Pokevision made it, or Niantic made it, is something that players desperately NEED — not want, but NEED — in order to play the game? Could it be possible that this is the very core fundamental feature that drives most players? I understand that there are some that want to walk around and stumble on a random Pokemon — to each their own. But, [50 million] unique users and [11 million] daily and the ratings on your App (with no significant change in itself) are big indicators of this desire. Are customers always right? Especially if over half of them are looking for an outside fix just so they can enjoy something they love? People are naturally inquisitive, and in this case, they just want to play more and more, so they sought out something that helps them do so."

John Hanke, the CEO of Niantic, has expressed his disdain for these third-party sites, saying that it "takes some fun" out of the game. But Liu thinks Hanke is missing the point.

Pokemon GO (arrows)

"We made Pokevision not to 'cheat,'" writes Liu. "We made it so that we can have a temporary relief to the in-game tracker that we were told was broken."

Later, he continues, "Half of the player base of ['Pokémon GO'] stopped by — and they didn’t do so to 'cheat.' The game was simply too unbearable to play in its current state for many (note: many, not all). The main attraction wasn’t that they got to have an advantage with Pokevision, the main attraction was that it allowed them to play ['Pokémon GO'] more. This is what everyone wants — to play ['Pokémon GO'] more."

In a statement released on Niantic's Facebook page regarding changes to much-needed features, it said, "We have read your posts and emails and we hear the frustration from folks in places where we haven’t launched yet, and from those of you who miss these features. We want you to know that we have been working crazy hours to keep the game running as we continue to launch globally."

Pokemon GO launch Japan

No specific time period was given as to when players can expect the "Nearby" menu to be fixed, but in terms of whether sites like PokéVision will come back, players are probably out of luck. Liu's entire letter is worth a read, but it's clear that he feels burned by the way Niantic has treated him and the "Pokémon GO" community at large.

"When we closed Pokevision out of respect for your wishes, and at your requests — one of which came directly from you, John  —  we trusted you guys fully in allowing the community to grow," he writes. "I literally cannot express this more  —  we just want to play the game. We can handle the bugs every now and then, but please at least tell us you guys care."

The next 'Star Wars' movie has brought in a new director to handle reshoots

Rogue One Disney

The latest news from the next "Star Wars" movie is that there's a new person heading the reshoots.

Writer-director Tony Gilroy is taking a supervising role on "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" and overseeing the edit of the recently wrapped five-week reshoots, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Gilroy has written several "Bourne" movies and has directed "The Bourne Legacy" and "Michael Clayton." He was also an uncredited writer on "Rogue One."

According to the THR story, Gilroy and "Rogue One" director Gareth Edwards are collaborating on the edit, though one of the main reasons Gilroy was called on was to refine the ending of the film.

In late May, news broke that Disney executives were "not happy" with an early cut of the movie and ordered reshoots. Then a month later at Star Wars Celebration, Edwards tried to play down the reshoots, saying that they were always planned

However, what Edwards may not have planned was the entrance of someone else managing the reshoots.

This isn't the first time Gilroy has taken on this kind of role. He took over the reins on "The Bourne Identity" from director Doug Liman when he and producer Frank Marshall were feuding over the completion of the movie.

"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" opens in theaters December 16.

It's not often that you hear Will Smith speak out on political matters, but it looks like this election has changed that.

While promoting his new movie "Suicide Squad," he told News.com.au what he really thinks about Trump.

"For a man to be able to publicly refer to a woman as a fat pig, that makes me teary," Smith said. "And for people to applaud, that is absolutely f---ing insanity to me."

Smith wasn't through giving his thoughts about the presidential candidate, though:

"For me, deep down in my heart, I believe that America won't and we can't [elect Trump]. Of all the things he has said, and we could go through the laundry list, that [fat-pig comment] was the one that was such an absolute illustration of a darkness of his soul. I just cannot figure out how people can clap for that."

Smith went on to say that, with the social unrest in the world today, the next US president needs to be "level-headed."

"Because when people get scared, they lose their morality and that reptile mind takes over," he said. "It's the type of thing that you see in all forms of nature, but our leaders can't be that."

Pokémon Go players are in open revolt — but they haven't slowed down its smash-hit success

pokemon go

This past weekend, Pokémon Go developers Niantic made some big changes to their phenomenon of a smartphone game that left a lot of hardcore players in the cold.

Niantic totally disabled the game's already-broken Pokémon tracking feature, which it followed up by shutting down the unauthorized third-party cheating sites that millions of people were using to find their monsters.

In response, hardcore fans, largely organized on Reddit's Pokémon Go community, Twitter, and elsewhere, have staged an out-and-out rebellion against Niantic.

Some fans are asking for refunds for the money they've spent on the game— and getting them. More fans still leaving bad reviews for the game in an attempt to force changes from Niantic. At the time of writing, the current version of Pokémon Go has an average of 2 out of 5 stars on the Apple App Store.

But despite all the rage, data from app analytics firm Sensor Tower indicates that the game is as popular as before, if not more so. Overall, Sensor Tower indicates that the game has made $160 million in net revenue since launching on July 8th.

In fact, iPhone players of Pokémon Go actually sunk slightly more average time per day into the game from July 30th through August 1st, the same span over which the controversial changes were made, than they were in the week leading up to it.

Players spent 26 minutes and 5 seconds playing the game, up from 25 minutes and 40 seconds the week before, over that fateful weekend.

pokemon go usage after update

That's down considerably from the 33 minutes and 25 seconds players were spending on the game shortly after it launched, but it's expected that the post-release pop won't last forever. Also note that by Sensor Tower's reckoning, iOS users are still spending more time daily on Pokémon Go than they are on Facebook's iPhone app.

"None of this is to say that some diehard Pokémon GO users turned off by the removal of a key game mechanic haven’t stopped using the app, but the average user is not spending less time playing as a result of the changes," writes Sensor Tower in a blog post.

The week before the update, too, players opened the app about six times per day, which has remained unchanged.

It's hard to tell straight away what accounts for this little bump in usage. But, at a guess, it probably has something to do with the fact that Niantic has fixed many of the game's worst bugs while also making the server's far more reliable.

With those problems fixed and fine-tuned, the majority of players don't necessarily care as much about the finer aspects of playing Pokémon Go, so long as the game itself works as it should.

Clint Eastwood praises Donald Trump and slams political correctness: 'F---ing get over it'

Clint Eastwood

Clint Eastwood is tired of people being politically correct.

In a new cover story for Esquire, Eastwood said that Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is "onto something" because the candidate doesn't censor what's on his mind.

"Because secretly everybody's getting tired of political correctness, kissing up. That's the kiss-a-- generation we're in right now. We're really in a p---- generation," Eastwood said in the article. "Everybody's walking on eggshells. We see people accusing people of being racist and all kinds of stuff. When I grew up, those things weren't called racist."

Eastwood said that he thinks the "p---- generation" is "All these people that say, 'Oh, you can't do that, and you can't do this, and you can't say that.'"

Although Eastwood praised Trump, the actor clarified that it doesn't mean he endorses the Republican nominee.

"He's said a lot of dumb things. So have all of them. Both sides," Eastwood said. "But everybody — the press and everybody's going, 'Oh, well, that's racist,' and they're making a big hoodoo out of it. Just f---ing get over it. It's a sad time in history."

This guy quit his job to play Pokémon Go full time, and he has big plans for how to make money off it

$

IMG_5345.JPGYou might play Pokémon Go for fun, but for 24-year-old Benny Affonso, it’s a much, much more serious endeavor.

Affonso, who is one of the top players in Los Angeles at level 33 (as Asmoris), recently quit his job to play the game full time.

“I stay up till 5 AM playing at night,” Affonso tells Business Insider. “I need to go to every event.”

Events, and bringing people together, are a key of both what Affonso loves about Pokémon Go, and how it sees a financial path for himself in it.

“I’m extremely poor,” Affonso says. “I was a cashier [at a grocery store] before this.” Affonso also previously worked as a manager at a Burger King and as part-time painting instructor. He went to school for illustration.

But Affonso thinks Pokémon Go could be his ticket to making money. His plan is to be the equivalent of a club promoter, but for Pokémon Go. “It’s so simple!” he exclaims. He will use his status in the game to bring people to events, and businesses will pay him for that, he explains.

He scoffs at businesses that aren't working to lure in Pokémon Go players. “You are missing out on money,” he says.

Benny Affonso

Early on in Pokémon Go, players are prompted to join one of three color-coded teams — Team Mystic (Blue), Team Valor (Red), and the least popular of the three, Team Instinct (Yellow).

Those teams play into the competitive aspect of Pokémon Go. Players are fighting to take over "Gyms," specially-designated real-life locations. If your team is in control of the Gym, you can help reinforce it by placing your own Pokémon. But if a rival team owns that Gym, you can combine your forces with your teammates to take it down and stake your territory.

This gives Pokémon Go the potential for spontaneous, huge battles that people have to go to in person. Affonso points to an event last week at the Wiltern in Los Angeles, where players from the three Pokémon Go teams competed to see who could hold a "Gym" the longest.

Instinct, the team Affonso is a part of, won.

IMG_5319.JPG

The underdog

It’s no accident that Affonso has chosen Team Instinct, the underdog one, the least-popular.

“I’ve never been much of a mainstream person,” he says. “I’ve been an outcast my entire life ... I always go for the least valued." Affonso identifies with the oft-mocked yellow team. But it's not just that. He also loves the challenge of having to work harder to win, he says.

At the tournament in Los Angeles, he said he was giving out his advice to his team about how to work around the various software bugs that have plagued Pokémon Go. “That’s how we win,” he says. “Information.”

His day

Affonso spends most of his day roaming around playing Pokémon Go, chatting with other players. They often come up to him because he dresses up as a Pokémon trainer when he goes out.

“I’ve made so many friends,” he says. The social aspect of the game is what Affonso loves, and it's also where he sees his financial future. He doesn’t care about catching them all, like Brooklyn's Nick Johnson, who is currently on a sponsored trip around the world in pursuit of that dream.

Here's why Affonso loves the game: “There’s this sense of discovery, beating the odds, making friends, leveling up to get stronger,” he says effervescently. “Real life just can’t emulate.”

But Affonso hopes his success in Pokémon Go can translate into real life — at least with regards to money. There will be players who make loads of cash off of the game, the leaders, he maintains.

He wants one of them to be him.

Clint Eastwood finally explains his infamous empty-chair speech and calls it 'silly'

Clint Eastwood RNC

It was one of the oddest moments in political convention history and of 2012 in general.

Clint Eastwood unforgettably spoke to an empty chair at the 2012 Republican National Convention. He was pretending as if it were President Obama.

The stunt — which was dubbed "Invisible Obama" and even has its own ongoing Twitter account— made people scratch their heads, wondering what was going on in the older actor's head. Roger Ebert tweeted that it made Eastwood come across as "sad" and "pathetic" and that it was "unworthy of him."

Now, Eastwood is acknowledging that the whole thing was "silly."

In a new interview with Esquire, Eastwood replied to a question about what troubles him most with, "We're not really … what troubles me is … I guess when I did that silly thing at the Republican convention, talking to the chair."

When the reporter said he didn't call the chair incident "silly," Eastwood continued:

"It was silly at the time, but I was standing backstage and I'm hearing everybody say the same thing: 'Oh, this guy's a great guy.' Great, he's a great guy. I've got to say something more. And so I'm listening to an old Neil Diamond thing and he's going, 'And no one heard at all / Not even the chair.' And I'm thinking, That's Obama. He doesn't go to work. He doesn't go down to Congress and make a deal. What the hell's he doing sitting in the White House? If I were in that job, I'd get down there and make a deal. Sure, Congress are lazy bastards, but so what? You're the top guy."

Eastwood then referred to his disappointment toward the modern era of political correctness.

Peter MacNicol will be back next season on "Veep" for another chance at an Emmy nomination, which was revoked from him this year.

The celebration around "Veep's" huge Emmy nominati0n haul for season five was dampened earlier this month when MacNicol's nom was revoked by the Television Academy.

Nominated for guest actor for playing Jonah's (Timothy Simons) short-tempered uncle, Jeff Kane, MacNicol was disqualified from the category because he appeared on 5 of the season's 10 episodes. According to the award rules, eligible guest actors can only appear on fewer than half of the season's episodes.

MacNicol's diqualifcation didn't sit well with "Veep" showrunner David Mandel.

"That was just sad," he recently told Business Insider while promoting the release of the HBO comedy's season-five digital HD release.

"Peter MacNicol was so good as Uncle Jeff," Mandel continued. "We thought we may be bringing him in for one episode, maybe two. And in a weird way, he was a victim of our love with him. We just kept adding him to stuff, then I guess the application process was before we were done editing shows. They didn’t necessarily check it. We didn’t check it. It made me sick to my stomach."

Mandel told Business Insider that McNicol's disqualifation from the Emmy category doesn't erase the actor's achievement on this past season of "Veep." And it also doesn't mean that Mandel can't bring him back for another stab at TV's big prize.

"It sucks that he doesn’t have the nomination," the producer said. "Hopefully, I take solace in the fact that people loved him enough to nominate him, despite how many episodes he’s in. And I look forward to bringing him back next season in less than five episodes to make sure he has a shot at it next year."

"Girls" guest star Peter Scolari ultimately replaced MacNicol in the Emmy competition. MacNicol previously won an Emmy in 2001 for "Ally McBeal," and has been nominated for the award four times.

The ex-showrunner for Netflix's 'The Get Down': It was 'one of the odder TV experiences'

"The Shield" creator Shawn Ryan says his time on Netflix's expensive hip-hop musical series from Baz Luhrmann, "The Get Down," was "one of the odder television experiences" he has had. But he also says there are no hard feelings surrounding his departure from the series.

Nearly two and a half years ago, Ryan was hired as the original showrunner on the ambitious project from Luhrmann, the noted director of "Moulin Rouge" and "The Great Gatsby." Ryan's time on the project was cut short when the director decided to move the production from Los Angeles to New York City.

"I worked for probably a year on 'The Get Down,'" Ryan told Business Insider at this week's Television Critics Association press tour. "And then when things moved to New York and things changed, I became very divorced from it. But there were no bad feelings. So there was nothing ugly, or dark, or insidious about it. I’m looking forward to the show coming out."

Set in the late 1970s, "The Get Down" tracks the emergence of hip-hop through the eyes of kids from New York City's South Bronx.

The Get Down NetflixRyan referred to his former role on the show as "insurance" for production company Sony Pictures Television and Netflix in the event that Lurhmann "flaked" or didn't want to continue on with it. Neither of those things happened.

In fact, Luhrmann decided to take on the showrunner role himself when creative differences led to a second showrunner in New York, Thomas Kelly ("Blue Bloods," "Copper"), leaving the production. In the end, and for a variety of other reasons, "The Get Down" ended up costing $120 million to produce — Netflix's most expensive original series to date.

If fans are looking for Ryan's touch on "The Get Down," which premieres the first half of its first season on August 12, the producer can't guarantee that any of his work (other than bringing on producers and writers Kelly, Seth Svi Rosenfeld, and Nelson George) will make it onscreen. He even had his name taken off the project's credits.

"I haven’t seen the full product," said Ryan, whose upcoming time-travel drama "Timeless" premieres this fall on NBC. "I can’t say I brought anything to 'The Get Down.' I chose to remove my name from the credits on the show just because I didn’t think it was fair to sort of put a Shawn Ryan brand on something that I didn’t have an influence on what the final product was. I was there at the beginning. I like to think that some of the stuff we worked on and created then has survived and made its way through, but it has become a whole new different thing and it’s Baz’s baby."

Here's the one joke Donald Trump banned from his Comedy Central Roast

donald trump

At Donald Trump's Comedy Central Roast in 2011, comics poked fun at the now Republican presidential nominee on a number of issues, including his hair, wife, family, sex life, and failed businesses.

But, according to Aaron Lee, a writer for the roast, there was only one topic that Trump made off-limits.

Lee posted on List a series of joke subjects that Trump "allowed" — ones that actually made it onto the program — with Trump's only objection being the one topic he explicitly held "sacred."

"The only thing we got from Trump was the request not to say he exaggerates his wealth," Lee wrote, adding that it's standard for Comedy Central Roast subjects to deem certain things off-limits.

Here's the full list of what made it on the roast and the one thing Trump forbade:

  • ALLOWED: Jokes about Trump's hair
  • ALLOWED: Jokes about Trump's wife Melania (and his two previous marriages)
  • ALLOWED: Jokes about Trump having sex with models
  • ALLOWED: Jokes about the failure of Trump Steaks, Trump Water, Trump Cologne, and other Trump products
  • ALLOWED: Jokes about Trump's failed casinos
  • ALLOWED: Jokes about how Trump only became successful thanks to his wealthy father
  • ALLOWED: Jokes about Trump's weight
  • ALLOWED: Jokes about Trump being attracted to his daughter Ivanka
  • NOT ALLOWED: Any joke that suggests Trump is not actually as wealthy as he claims to be

As Vulture points out, Trump allowed comedian Jeff Ross to say, "The Donald and I have a lot in common: We both live in New York, we both play golf, we both fantasize about his daughter."

But if Ross, Lisa Lampanelli, or Seth MacFarlane had joked about, say, Trump's tax returns? That's where our potential next president would have drawn the line.

'Suicide Squad' star Margot Robbie is blowing up — here's how the Aussie took over Hollywood

margot robbie

This is the year of Margot Robbie.

The Aussie actress first left jaws on the floor after her breakout performance opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in 2013's "The Wolf of Wall Street," but she's proved she has staying power.

The 26-year-old is dominating 2016 with roles in "The Legend of Tarzan" and the new "Suicide Squad" movie as the perfectly unhinged comic-book character Harley Quinn. While "Squad" itself is getting less-than-stellar reviews, Robbie is the clear star — critics and fans can't get enough of Quinn.

She's not slowing down any time soon, either. Here's how she became a Hollywood star:

As a teen, she made sandwiches at a Subway in Melbourne. Six months after Robbie landed her first major acting role, the company hired her for a commercial.
