As “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” continues to dominate the box office, with a $1.7 billion worldwide gross at the moment, the excitement for what will go down in the next chapter, “Episode VIII,” is building. But meanwhile, the sequel doesn’t open until 2017.

The plot and even a title are still locked away at Disney, but one of the film's stars has read the script and has a few thoughts.

John Boyega, who plays Finn in the franchise, told British Vogue that “Episode VIII” is “much darker” and that Finn will be more physically active.

“My part in the next film will be much more physical so I might be in the gym a bit more,” Boyega said.

If you follow Boyega on Instagram, you may notice he’s already kicking up his workouts a notch:

So expect the franchise getting darker and Boyega looking more buff in “Episode VIII.”

Aaron Paul is conflicted in the teaser trailer for Hulu's "The Path."

Written and created by Jessica Goldeberg, the series centers on a family that's part of the fictional Meyerist Movement, a cult-like group in upstate New York.

Paul, known best for his role in "Breaking Bad," stars as a husband who is struggling to deal with his life in the cult. The show also features Michelle Monaghan as Paul's wife and Hugh Dancy as the creepy cult leader.

And for fans of "Breaking Bad," there's certainly no shortage of intensity in the clip for his new show.

The 10-episode series, produced by "Parenthood's" Jason Katmis, premieres March 30 on Hulu.

CBS officially cancels 'Mike & Molly' and an executive calls it a 'challenging' decision

mike and molly cbs

"Mike & Molly" is officially airing its sixth and final season.

The official word arrived during Tuesday's Television Critics Association press tour when CBS Entertainment President Glenn Geller addressed the show's future.

“These decisions are really challenging,” Geller told a room of reporters. “I have tremendous respect for Chuck Lorre, Al Higgins, Melissa McCarthy, and Billy Gardell, and the entire cast. I can confirm that 'Mike and Molly' is canceled.”

Geller said the final season, which is currently airing, will consist of 13 episodes.

As Business Insider previously reported, the stars of the CBS comedy broke the news via social media in December.

"I was shocked and heartbroken when @CBS canceled #MikeAndMolly," star McCarthy wrote on Twitter. "I would have shot this show for 50 more years. I'll miss my 2nd family."

McCarthy's costars Gardell (who plays Mike) and Rondi Reed (who plays Mike's mother, Peggy) also posted the news on their Twitter and Facebook, respectively.

Reed said that the production companies behind the show, Warner Bros. Television and Chuck Lorre's Bonanza Productions, have been unable to find a new home for the show.

"Mike & Molly" did see an 11% reduction in the advertiser-coveted 18- to 49-year-old audience in season five year-over-year. That may be enough for the network to cancel the show, since CBS is trying to bring over younger viewers. McCarthy's likely high salary would work against the show here, as well. Otherwise, its total audience stayed pretty stable with 8.4 million viewers.

McCarthy's career has exploded in the last few years. Without the show, her schedule opens up to do more movies like the hit "Spy" and upcoming all-female "Ghostbusters."

The comedy show, which centers on two people who meet in a Chicago Overeaters Anonymous group and fall in love, has won two Emmys, including Best Actress for McCarthy in 2011, and Cinematography earlier this year.

It's currently airing Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m.

Charlie Rose has landed the first television interview with Sean Penn since Rolling Stone published the actor's story about his secret meeting with Mexican drug cartel leader El Chapo.

The "CBS This Morning" host made the announcement during Tuesday's Television Critics Association press tour in Los Angeles. The host said he had met with Penn on Monday night.

“We are planning to do an interview about his experience and what happened to him and I look forward to that, as soon as all the things can be worked out,” Rose said. “We’ll be able to sit down and I have a thousand questions for Sean. It’s a remarkable story.”

When asked for more information about what he would discuss with Penn, Rose said only that he didn't want to comment ahead of the interview. He also said that he didn't discuss the topic at length with Penn, as the actor asked him to save it for the show.

Penn made headlines, and faced a lot of criticism, over the weekend for a Rolling Stone story detailing his secret meeting with Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzman last year. That face-to-face would later help authorities capture Guzman.

Here's a look inside the house from 'Silence of the Lambs' that no one wants to buy

If you live in a house that's featured in a popular movie, you expect people will come by taking pictures, and some may be itching to buy it if it goes on the market.

Who wouldn't be proud to live in the house from "A Christmas Story" or "Home Alone"?

But sometimes it's not a selling point, like when you're living in the house that was serial killer Buffalo Bill's torture compound in "The Silence of the Lambs."

Scott and Barbara Lloyd have lived in the Fayette, Pennsylvania, house since 1976 and allowed the movie to use their property, but the retired couple have decided to sell it and downsize.

The house was the second-most clicked listing on Realtor.com in 2015, but that hasn't led to many offers. That could be because it's the "Buffalo Bill house," Pittsburgh is an hour away, or it's a four-bedroom house with only one bathroom. Whatever the case, the house was originally listed at $300,000 in August, but has been dropped to $249,900.

That could be a steal, depending on your point of view. Let's take a look inside:

The house is a three-story Victorian, and no, it doesn't have a torture pit in the basement. That portion of the movie was shot on a soundstage.

Why 'The Revenant' is a lot closer to winning a Best Picture Oscar — but it's an uphill battle

the revenant DF 02339R_rgb final

The Golden Globes are always a bit unpredictable compared to the Oscars. That was no different on Sunday when “The Revenant” shocked many by taking home the biggest prize, for best dramatic film.

Many awards pundits thought “Spotlight” would walk away with the trophy, but it was a surprising shutout that night. “The Revenant” director Alejandro González Iñárritu also beat out “Spotlight” director Tom McCarthy, and the latter film (still a favorite in the Academy Awards) didn't even get a single acting nomination.

Those wins, along with Leonardo DiCaprio's Best Actor Globe, added up to a sweeping victory for the gritty survival movie.

Leonardo DiCaprio holds his award for Best Actor, Motion Picture, Drama, for So what does that mean for Oscar night, which is on February 28?

When the Academy nominations are announced Thursday, you can expect both “The Revenant” and “Spotlight” in the Best Picture category, but it sounds like “The Revenant” hasn’t moved any closer to being the odds-on favorite to win the award.

“I don’t think it would be accurate to call ‘The Revenant’ a Best Picture frontrunner, since there’s no overlap between the Globes and Oscar voting bases,” Vanity Fair digital director Michael Hogan said.

The voting bodies of the two groups are vastly different in size. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which votes on the Globes, is around 90 members; the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which votes on the Oscars, is around 7,000, and includes actors (the largest contingent) along with many others who work in the industry.

And looking back on Globes history, as Flavorwire did recently, Globes and Oscar Best Picture winners are the same only 50 percent of the time.

spotlight 1 final“I do think [The Revenant] is in the hunt now,” said Hogan, pointing out that the film's impressive box office last weekend, almost overtaking “The Force Awakens” as the weekend's No. 1, is a push in the right direction. “I think 'Spotlight''s momentum has stalled considerably, but it certainly can’t be counted out.”

A big tell for how the Best Picture category will shake out comes from yet another awards show: the SAGs, or Screen Actors Guild Awards.

The movie that wins the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast has gone on to win Oscar’s Best Picture seven out of the last 10 years. The SAG Awards air on January 30.

This year’s nominees are “Spotlight,” “The Big Short,” “Beasts of No Nation,” “Straight Outta Compton,” and “Trumbo.”

That's right: “The Revenant” isn’t nominated, which only builds the drama.

Here's how 'The Office' star John Krasinski got in shape to play a Navy SEAL

$

John Krasinski is best-known for playing the goofy Jim Halpert for nine seasons on NBC's "The Office." Now, he's making a huge career leap by starring in Michael Bay's highly anticipated "13 Hours."

In "13 Hours," Krasinski plays a Navy SEAL who must defend an American diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya.

This is Krasinski's first role in an action movie, and in order to look the part he had to go through a vigorous workout routine. Krasinski worked with Jason Walsh, a personal trainer who has also worked with Ben Affleck, Jessica Biel, and Krasinski's wife Emily Blunt, whom he trained prior to "Edge of Tomorrow."

Krasinski's training regimen was brutal.

In an interview with Men's Health, Krasinski said that he was doing two-a-day workouts, five times a week. One particularly painful workout involved him dragging sleds around — a kind of workout that NFL players typically do.

Today, Krasinski is in the best shape of his life.

"My body fat was, I believe, 25%," Krasinski told Jimmy Kimmel on "Jimmy Kimmel Live." "And then by the time I did the movie my body fat was 9%."

You can see the transformed Jim Halpert in "13 Hours" on January 15th.

People magazine reports that Charlie Sheen has revealed he's no longer taking his HIV medication.

"I'm been off my meds for about a week now," Sheen said in a pre-taped segment for "The Dr. Oz Show" airing today, according to People.

The actor is reportedly off his meds in order to seek alternative treatment from a physician who Dr. Mehmet Oz says is not licensed to practice in the US. Sheen has not said what the new treatment entails.

"Am I risking my life? Sure," Sheen said in the segment. "So what? I was born dead. That part of it doesn't phase me at all."

When Sheen first revealed that he was HIV positive on the "Today" show last year, his levels of the virus were "undetectable." Now, Sheen says, his levels have gone up to the point that they are detectable.

Charlie Sheen says his levels of HIV are now detectable after going off meds

Charlie Sheen claims to Dr. Oz that he's currently off his HIV medication, and as a result his levels of the virus have gone up.

When Sheen first made the announcement that he's HIV-positive in November, his doctor said his levels of the virus were "undetectable," meaning they were low enough that they could not be found in tests.

But in a pre-taped segment on Dr. Oz's show airing Tuesday, Sheen says he's off antiretroviral drugs and seeking alternative treatment for his condition. Consequently, his HIV levels have gone up, and they're now detectable.

"I'm a little off my game because right before I walked out here, I got some results I was disappointed about," the actor told Oz in the segment, according to People. "I had been non-detectable, non-detectable and checking the blood every week and then found out the numbers are back up."

Dr. Oz appeared on FOX 5 today to talk about the segment with Sheen and his decision.

"Charlie found an alternative medicine healer. Someone in Mexico," Dr. Oz said. "Charlie, unbeknownst to me, went off his medications. He thinks he was cured."

A doctor who’s not licensed to practice medicine in the US but is now treating Charlie Sheen’s HIV reportedly injected himself with the actor's blood

charlie sheen

Actor Charlie Sheen, who went on NBC's "Today" show last November to confirm rumors that he was HIV-positive, now claims he is no longer taking his HIV medications and is seeking alernative treatment in Mexico, People magazine is reporting.

According to People, the actor announced on "The Dr. Oz Show" that he had been off his meds for a week and was getting treatment from a physician named Sam Chachoua, who is not licensed to practice medicine in the US, according to the show's host Mehmet Oz.

Chachoua reportedly told Oz he was so confident in his treatment that he had injected himself with some of Sheen's blood — probably not a good idea considering that HIV is spread by direct contact with blood and certain other bodily fluids.

"I drew some blood from him and I injected myself with it and I said, 'Charlie, if I don't know what I'm doing, then we're both in trouble now aren't we?'" Chachoua reportedly told Oz by phone.

Sheen's diagnosis

The National Enquirer tabloid first reported in November that Sheen had contracted the virus and that some of his sexual partners weren't aware. But Sheen maintains that he told all his partners of his HIV status, adding that many threatened to blackmail him for a sum totaling "into the millions."

At the time Sheen appeared on the Today Show last November, his physician Robert Huizenga, an assistant professor of clinical medicine at UCLA, said Sheen had been put on a cocktail of strong antiviral drugs, and that the HIV was undetectable in his blood.

The actor had achieved what is known in the medical community as viral suppression by taking a three-drug cocktail known as antiretroviral therapy, or ART. This is not a cure, it just means the virus has been reduced to an undetectable level in the body, where it is unable to multiply and wipe out the immune system.

Many people who take their medication consistently can achieve viral suppression in three to six months, according to the US Department of Health and Human Services.

No longer undetectable

However, Sheen reportedly told Oz the virus has now returned to detectable levels.

"I'm a little off my game because right before I walked out here, I got some results I was disappointed about," he told Oz, according to People. "I had been non-detectable, non-detectable and checking the blood every week and then found out the numbers are back up."

Sheen said he does not recommend the alternative treatment he received to everyone.

His doctor, Huizenga, was also in the audience of "The Dr. Oz Show," and reportedly told Sheen, "It would just break my heart if you did anything where you threw that opportunity ... away and went back to where we were several decades ago."

As far as we know, Sheen does not have AIDS, a condition in which the virus has dramatically suppressed the immune system, leaving the patient susceptible to infections and rare types of cancer.

About 35 million people were living with HIV worldwide as of 2013, according to the World Health Organization, and about 1.5 million people died of AIDS-related illnesses that year. But thanks to antiretroviral drugs, the virus no longer has to be a death sentence for those like Sheen.

A 'hard 3 letters to absorb'

On the "Today" Show in November, Sheen said he did not know how he contracted the virus. He said he had unprotected sex with two people since he learned of the HIV diagnosis and that his doctor was monitoring both of them.

Sheen said he learned he had HIV four years ago, after suffering from extreme migraines and "sweating the bed." Thinking he might have a brain tumor, he was hospitalized. But after numerous tests, doctors confirmed he had HIV.

One of the reasons HIV can go long periods before being diagnosed is that its earliest symptoms can mirror those of the flu — many people experience a fever, muscle aches, sore throat, and swollen glands. The only way to know for sure whether you have HIV is to get tested.

"It's a hard three letters to absorb," the actor said. "It's a turning point in one's life."

At the time, Sheen said he was on a "triple cocktail" of HIV medications and took four pills a day. He added that since his diagnosis he had never missed taking his medication.

His doctor said, however, that there was still a very small chance that Sheen could pass the virus to sexual partners even if he continued his treatment and used protection.

CBS's 'Rush Hour' defends itself against accusations of racial stereotyping

rush hour racism cbs tca

The executive producer of CBS's "Rush Hour" found himself defending his show against accusations of racial stereotypes during Tuesday's Television Critics Association press tour in Los Angeles.

During CBS's panel for "Rush Hour," a reporter asked how the show intended to steer away from relying on racial stereotypes for comedy as it did on the pilot episode (and as the original films the show is based on have been accused of doing).

Producer Bill Lawrence, who previously produced "Cougar Town" and "Scrubs," accused the reporter of asking the question from a "negative angle" and went on the defensive.

"I have a track record," Lawrence responded. "I'm very proud of diversity on the writing staff. I'm very proud of the diversity on this show behind the cameras. I'm very proud of the diversity in the crew. And I want to say that also not in a defensive way because I think that if you are ever trying to prove yourself and say, like, 'We won,' you know, that's half of the battle is you realize you can always do better with that stuff."

Lawrence pointed out that while he thinks the "Rush Hour" pilot will pull viewers in, "shows change after the pilot."

He then named a couple of examples when the characters' relati0nship grows, "when we see how these two grew up, and how Aimee [Garcia's character] is a single mother."

Lawrence concluded, "I think it's a valid question, because were we repeat the pilot week in and week out, even though I do believe it's a great way in, I think the show would fail. And so I'm pretty proud of the trajectory it does, and I expect this show to be on next year because I'm pretty confident about it."

"Rush Hour" stars Justin Hires and John Foo in the roles made famous by Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan in the 1998 buddy-cop movie. The one-hour action comedy premieres Thursday, March 31 at 10 p.m. on CBS.

In August 2010, Kanye West introduced "GOOD Fridays" — a project in which he released one free song every Friday for four months.

It was a smart move. Constantly putting out new stuff kept Kanye at the center of the hip-hop conversation, and built hype for his next album. That album, "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy," turned out to be one of the best albums of the decade.

Now, more than five years later, GOOD Fridays are back, and will lead up to the release of Kanye's next album, "SWISH," on February 11th. 'Making a Murderer' subject Steven Avery files a new appeal to throw out his conviction

steven avery arrest 2 making a murderer netflix

Steven Avery has filed a new appeal to his murder conviction in Wisconsin.

The motion for appeal, made public Tuesday, cites the abuse of a search warrant and jury improprieties during Avery's trial, the Daily Beast reported.

Avery, whose trial and convictions are the subject of Netflix's popular "Making a Murderer," argues that a warrant that resulted in police turning up evidence of Teresa Halbach's murder was issued for one property, yet it was used to search multiple properties.

Additionally, he says that one member of the jury, referred to as Juror C.W., told the jury room that Avery was "f--king guilty," which the appeal states "deprived Avery of an impartial Jury trial."

The filing also points to the replacement of one juror, Richard Mahler, who was dismissed due to a family emergency after the jury had begun deliberations. However, in the trial covered by "Making a Murderer," Avery and his counsel decided to agree to a juror replacement in lieu of a mistrial.

Avery is currenlty serving a life sentence for the murder of Halbach. Previous appeals of his conviction were refused up to the state supreme court, and he's exhausted his ability to be assigned a court-appointed attorney.

The filing can be read at the Wisconsin Court of Appeals site.

'Deadpool' proves it won't be like other superhero movies with R rating for 'strong violence and nudity'

deadpool ryan reynolds teaser trailer

The buildup to the latest Marvel superhero movie, “Deadpool,” is a unique one. It's being marketed as not like any other superhero adaptation we've seen in some time. It's edgy, foul-mouthed, and violent, at least judging from trailers.

Now that’s been confirmed, as the film has received an R rating from the Motion Picture Association of America for “strong language and violence throughout, sexual content, and graphic nudity.”

20th Century Fox is going a different path than the popular Marvel movies that come out through Disney ("Deadpool" has been in development for over a decade, before Disney acquired Marvel Entertainment). Disney's superhero movies haven't edged past a PG-13 rating in order to increase their box-office potential.

We're going to find out on February 12 whether Fox's gamble that there's a big enough adult audience that wants a more mature superhero pays off.

The success or failure of "Deadpool" could also be important for "Suicide Squad," out in August. Though some believe “Squad” won’t try for an R rating, if “Deadpool” does incredible business, don't be surprised if Warner Bros. feels more comfortable with the DC Comics adaptation having an R.

“Deadpool” stars Ryan Reynolds as a former Special Forces operative turned mercenary who has accelerated healing powers and a lot of sarcasm to go around.

Check out the trailer here, and you can tell this isn’t going to be a Disney Marvel movie:

There’s one big way Netflix is actually spending less money on content in 2016 (NFLX)

Reed hastings flags

Netflix has said it will spend $5 billion on content in 2016, but there is one important way it will actually spend less, according to analysts at Merrill Lynch.

In a note on Tuesday, the analysts wrote that the price Netflix spends on content per subscriber will likely decline in 2016. Netflix recently completed the bulk of its international expansion plan, which put it in every major country in the world except for China.

Netflix’s international expansion has worked to push content costs per subscriber down, even as the total spending on content has ballooned, driven by factors like the company’s increased focus on original shows.

Here is a chart from Merrill Lynch that shows Netflix’s spending on content, in both absolute and per subscriber terms:
Screen Shot 2016 01 13 at 10.24.10 AM

One reason Netflix might be able to spend less per subscriber on content is because its shows and movies have international appeal.

Netflix’s CPO, Neil Hunt, tells Business Insider that the company believes the variations in show preferences within countries are greater than those between countries. This means that a show considered “niche” can still find audiences all over the world. If this is true, it suggests that Netflix’s international expansion can greatly improve the value for its users relative to cost.

Basically, Netflix will be able to wring more and more value from its shows. Hunt pointed to Narcos, which he said was a monster hit all over the world.

With Netflix’s international expansion complete, Merrill Lynch thinks Netflix will be able to cut costs per subscriber, while, if Hunt is correct, providing them the same (or better) value.
