Here's why Arnold Schwarzenegger loves using Reddit

Arnold Schwarzenegger

At 67, actor Arnold Schwarzenegger is better at social media than you are.

As the means of being a huge star in Hollywood has changed, Schwarzenegger has adapted better than most by embracing the power of the web and smartphones. He uses his Snapchat account to sometimes hilarious effect, displaying his knowledge of both bodybuilding and emojis.

On Instagram you can see Schwarzenegger riding bikes with a familiar cyborg:

There's also a bizarre music video in which the actor, dressed up as the Terminator, tells fans not to mess with his selfie stick:

Schwarzenegger is also an avid Redditor, and he used the platform to organize an advanced screening of "Terminator Genisys" in New York last Wednesday, for which he showed up in person for a Q&A and selfie session.

terminator genisysDuring the Q&A, a fan asked Schwarzenegger about his use of Reddit, and he had nothing but praise for the platform, which he said he thought "the world of."

It seems to have made his life a lot easier.

"Well, as you know, I communicate quite frequently," Schwarzenegger told the crowd at the Regal in Times Square. "And I love to listen to the reactions and everything like that, and I think this is a great form of communicating, and to me, this is a way where I don't really need the press. Because up until technology like that was available, you always had to hold a press conference in order to communicate to my fans, whatever it may be."

Schwarzenegger is more than just an actor. He is a politician and philanthropist. And Reddit is great for all of these things.

"If I want to do a fundraiser for after-school programs or if I ran for office, or, you know, I have a movie coming out, or if I want to hold a screening, or I just want to ask a single question, all of this is now possible without having a press conference," Schwarzenegger said.

Arnold SchwarzeneggerSchwarzenegger posts many videos to Reddit. A recent one, called "Arnold Schwarzenegger's Guide to Blowing Sh-- Up" got over 1.3 million views on YouTube. All the money for it went to After-School All-Stars (ASAS).

Schwarzenegger emphasized how Reddit had strengthened his ties with his fans. Besides promoting the actor's many projects, Reddit allows for instant feedback. For Schwarzenegger, it is a way to get notes from someone other than a studio executive.

"I can get feedback right away from you guys. That's so wonderful about it," Schwarzenegger said. "It is unfiltered, it's just pure. And some people don't like it. May I remind you that some people don't like it because people don't like to hear the truth. I like to hear the truth because according to that, I can make certain changes because I like to hear the truth from the people rather than what the press's interpretation of the truth is which you all know, sometimes is a little distorted."

"Terminator Genisys" hits theaters Wednesday.

JK Rowling is frantically trying to debunk a rumor about her new Harry Potter play

jk rowling not a prequel

J.K. Rowling announced on Friday that she was extending the wizarding universe with a new play that would be a part of the official canon — “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.”

The author shared her news with her 4.84 million Twitter followers and racked up an impressive 43,000 favorites and 35,000 retweets at the time of this post.

“I will tell a new story, which is the result of a collaboration between writer Jack Thorne, director John Tiffany, and myself,” Rowling tweeted.

“I don’t want to say too much more, because I don’t want to spoil what I know will be a real treat for fans,” she continued. “However, I can say that it is not a prequel!”

But a day before Rowling broke the news officially, The Daily Mail reporter Baz Bamigboye wrote about the play and said that it would focus on Harry’s parents and the events that happened before they were killed by Lord Voldemort"

CNBC World and The Independent also reported that the “Cursed Child” production would be a prequel. Rowling quickly shut them down on Twitter.

Then, because her followers kept wondering what the new “prequel” would be about, Rowling decided she really needed to drive the point home that the “Cursed Child” play was not a prequel.

A tweet storm from the author ensued:

Though we still have no idea what the play will be about — Harry Potter’s career as an Auror? Another prophecy involving The Boy Who Lived? — one thing’s for sure: The “Cursed Child” is a sequel.

The long-delayed 'Top Gun' sequel is definitely happening with Tom Cruise

Top Gun

With the huge success of "Jurassic World" and "Mad Max: Fury Road" as well as the upcoming release of "Terminator Genisys" the multiplexes are starting to look like a blast from the past.

The reign of 1980s and 1990s films over 2015 isn't likely to end anytime soon.

29 years after "Top Gun" was released in 1986 and turned Tom Cruise into a movie star, a sequel has been long in the works. Now, fans of the military action thriller will soon be able to see Cruise as Maverick one more time.

According to The Daily Mail, Skydance CEO David Ellison confirmed a sequel script as well as the return of Cruise at a press junket in Berlin.

"Justin Marks is writing the screenplay right now," Ellison confirmed. "He has a phenomenal take to really update that world for what fighter pilots in the Navy has turned into today."

Details are scarce on the plot and whether or not Kelly McGillis will return alongside Cruise. All that is known is that the sequel will be set in the modern day and be a commentary on today's military, rather than a repeat of the original.

top gun 3"It is very much a world we live in today where it’s drone technology and fifth generation fighters … It’s really exploring the end of an era of dogfighting and fighter pilots and what that culture is today." Ellison added.

The "Top Gun" sequel has been in the works for a long time. Last year, it was announced Tom Cruise would reprise his role as Maverick. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer revealed the late "Top Gun" director Tony Scott was the one who came up with the premise.

Still, Scott's classic lives on.

"There is an amazing role for Maverick in the movie, and there is no Top Gun without Maverick, and it is going to be Maverick playing Maverick." Ellison told The Daily Mail.

Why Stormtroopers look different in 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'

StormtroopersWe've known for a few months now what the brand new Stormtroopers would look like in J.J. Abrams' "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" - both thanks to concept art and trailer footage - but a question that has remained is exactly why the classic uniform got an upgrade.

Now it seems we have an official answer, and it comes down to the fact that they are part of a newly-developing faction of the destroyed Empire that trying to get a strangle-hold on the universe.

Stormtrooper Flamethrower

This new bit of info comes courtesy of a reporter over at IGN, who has posted an interesting photo on his personal Twitter account. The image shows off the packaging of a brand new Stormtrooper action figure modeled after the soldiers featured in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," and provides a backstory to where they came from:

Most of this description is the basic history of the Stormtrooper, from their origins in the Clone Wars to their time as the army of Emperor Palpatine, but it's the last two sentences that are really key:

Yet the tyranny of Imperial rule sparked rebellion, and the Stormtrooper legions were scattered in the aftermath of the Empire's fall. Now, the rise of the First Order ushers in the next chapter in the Stormtrooper's legacy as a new era of ruthless brutality begins.

It was during Star Wars Celebration back in April that we first learned about The First Order, but this new description both provides new details on their existence and an explanation as to why their Stormtroopers have a different look than those that served under the Empire.

As the action figure packaging notes, it makes sense that the uniforms would look slightly similar - as they have come to represent a certain amount of power in the Star Wars universe - but they're also clearly their own new thing.

This same idea is applicable to The First Order's logo - as seen in the last "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" trailer - as well:

There are still many secrets left to be unlocked about the villains of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," but all of our questions will be answered when the movie hits theaters on December 18th.

NBC fires Donald Trump after he calls Mexicans rapists and drug runners

NBC is dumping Donald Trump.

In a press release on Monday, NBC said it was severing business ties with the real-estate mogul and GOP presidential candidate Trump because of statements in which he called Mexican immigrants rapists and drug runners.

"Due to recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBCUniversal is ending its relationship with Mr. Trump," NBC said in the statement.

NBC said it was dropping Trump's Miss USA and Miss Universe beauty pageants, and it indicated that Trump would no longer host "The Apprentice."

The decision comes after Trump doubled down on statements from his presidential announcement speech in which he described Mexican immigrants as rapists and drug runners.

"When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best; they're not sending you," Trump said in his announcement speech. "They're sending people that have lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems with us. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people."

Trump responded quickly at an appearance in Chicago, and he hinted that he was the one who ended the relationship.

"They didn't want me to run because they wanted me to do 'The Celebrity Apprentice,'" Trump told reporters.

"They were not happy," Trump said.

"I think as far as ending the relationship, I have to do that, because my view on immigration is much different than the people at NBC," Trump said.

Trump also fired back in a statement distributed by his office, in which he called NBC "weak" and questioning their support of anchor Brian Williams.

"If NBC is so weak and so foolish to not understand the serious illegal immigration problem in the United States, coupled with the horrendous and unfair trade deals we are making with Mexico, then their contract violating closure of Miss Universe/Miss USA will be determined in court," Trump said in the statement provided by his office. "Furthermore, they will stand behind lying Brian Williams, but won’t stand behind people that tell it like it is, as unpleasant as that may be.”

Donald Trump Miss Universe Olivia CulpoNBC isn't the only network to sever ties with Trump.

Last week, Univision called Trump's comments "insulting" and announced that it would no longer carry the Miss USA pageant.

After Univision's announcement last week, Trump slammed the television company. The real-estate mogul banned network executives from his Miami golf course and said he would pursue a breach-of-contract lawsuit. He also publically declared that he rejected an apology from Univision executive Alberto Ciurana.

"Alberto Ciurana issued an apology to me late last night," Trump said. "Apology not accepted. I call for his resignation."

One of Trump's 2016 rivals appeared amused at the news.

When New York Times reporter Jason Horowitz told Jeb Bush about NBC's decision, the former Florida governor reportedly chuckled and took a shot at Trump's dubious self-reported fortune.

'Arkham Knight' is absolutely fun, but sometimes it forgets it's a Batman game

batman arkham knight

A lot of times, "Batman: Arkham Knight" feels like two entirely different video games rolled up into one. They are both very good video games, but I'm not sure that they belong together.

The first game is very much the sequel to the previous "Arkham" games that was promised. You play as the Batman, gliding, stalking, and fighting your way across Gotham city with nifty gadgets and super-cool martial arts. You are a master of stealth and fear, picking off foes one at a time or recklessly diving in and methodically incapacitating entire mobs of armed goons.

Sometimes you do detective stuff.

In the second game, you play as the Batmobile (sometimes quite literally — Batman doesn't even have to be in the thing to drive it). You are a lord of horsepower and property damage, plowing through pillars and trees and taking on platoons of tanks with missile swarms and a giant 60mm cannon.  Sometimes you race through death traps and solve puzzles with a giant tow cable.

batman batmobile arkham knightOccasionally, these games intersect — like when, as Batman, you're pinned down by a small army that thinks they have you dead to rights, only to run scrambling in fear when you call in your personal tank to back you up. Those are nice moments.

"Batman: Arkham Knight" is the grand finale to a trilogy of games that began with 2009's "Batman: Arkham Asylum" and 2011's "Batman: Arkham City." (There's also a 2013 prequel, "Batman: Arkham Origins" set in the same universe. It's referenced, but not terribly important). They're excellent games that really nail the feeling of being Batman, set in a world that's a pretty terrific mashup of the various ways the hero and his world have been depicted over the past 75 years. If you like Batman, chances are you will love the "Arkham" games. If you're new to the character, they're one of the best introductions to him outside of "Batman: The Animated Series."

How much you enjoy "Arkham Knight," however, will depend on how much you like the Batmobile.

Make no mistake: The Batmobile is really fun, and developer Rocksteady Games work very hard to make it as deep and complex as every other part of the game, complete with upgradable powers, puzzles, and challenges designed specifically for it.

It's just that it is the one thing in the game that feels the least like Batman, and the game requires you to spend nearly half of your time in it. It's an excuse for a game to pit you against an army and fire endless amounts of lethal weaponry, with the hand-wavey justification that the tanks you blow up are "unmanned drones" and the men you shoot (almost every character in the game is a man, you can count the women on one hand) are taken out with "nonlethal" ammunition.

On the one hand, this is all preposterous. On the other hand, shooting things is a fun, popular activity to have in a video game, and the narrative justification is there for those who want to enjoy it and still feel like they're adhering to Batman's code.

There's really only one other potential trouble spot in "Arkham Knight," and that's its role as the conclusion of a trilogy. It's story, while quite good, isn't without faults (we'll discuss those in a spoiler-heavy post) — but it also expects you to know the events of  "Arkham Asylum" and "Arkham City." It also expects you to be pretty familiar with how those games worked. There are tutorials, but if you aren't already familiar with the set of gadgets returning from the previous games then you might be left in the dark until you find a mission that requires (and teaches) you to use them.

If you're an "Arkham" vet, though, you'll be right at home. The formula is pretty much the same, just bigger. Scarecrow has teamed up with the mysterious Arkham Knight to blanket Gotham with fear gas, and you'll use a mix of stealth, puzzle-solving, and fisticuffs to stop him.

There are a few tweaks to the formula: Boss fights aren't really a thing anymore, mostly relegated to a couple extra-challenging Batmobile encounters. You'll also have a few opportunities to team up with a few of Batman's allies with a fun new tag-team "Dual-play" fight system.

batman arkham knight There are also other villains on the loose in Gotham, and the majority of the game's side-missions involve tracking them down and putting an end to their plans. The majority of these side missions are fantastic and worth doing (although you'll have to complete most of them in order to get the game's actual ending, and all of them if you want the "full" ending. It's kind of crazy, since that includes solving all of the Riddler's 256 puzzles).

"Batman: Arkham Knight" is a good video game, but it's also a textbook example of how sequels feel compelled to top what came before by getting bigger and going wider. That's admirable, but sometimes it doesn't work, resulting in a game that it is at odds with itself, introducing exciting new things that are really fun but are fundamentally opposed to the world and character they've established.

It's almost like the developers, in their efforts to give us a better video game, forgot to give us a better Batman game.

guardians of the galaxy

We're still about two years away from the 2017 release of "Guardians of the Galaxy 2," but it looks like one of the first big bits of information about the film has just come out: the title.

Earlier today, Collider reported that Marvel President Kevin Feige let it slip during the "Ant-Man" press junket the "Guardians of the Galaxy" sequel would be called "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2."

James Gunn took to Twitter to confirm that yes, Feige had accidently let the title slip:

In case that sounded a little sarcastic, Gunn posted a much longer, more sincere answer on Facebook:

"Yes, the official title of the sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Kevin Feige recently let the title slip while doing Ant-Man press, which I'm really happy about because God knows I've let more than one thing slip accidentally while chattering away on this FB page.

Also, hats off to some intrepid fans who figured out the title a couple of days after I posted the cover page. More than one person guessed "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" - I wanted so badly to give you props at the time, but knew I had to wait.

For Kevin to mess up. Haha.

PS ANT-MAN PREMIERE TONIGHT AND I AM STOKED!"

Yes, the official title of the sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.Kevin Feige...

Posted by James Gunn on Monday, June 29, 2015

While that title might sound a little anti-climactic, it is actually a clever reference to the first film's hugely memorable soundtrack. While "Guardians of the Galaxy" had "Awesome Mix Vol. 1," the sequel promises "Awesome Mix Vol. 2." The first film's soundtrack hit number one on the Billboard 200 last summer.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" hits theaters in 2017.

Spending $500 on a game console that first launched over 30 years ago is a little crazy, but one company is betting on exactly that. Analogue Interactive created a ridiculously high-quality re-creation of the original Nintendo Entertainment System – the original Nintendo – and is selling the unit in a variety of colors.

Not only is the system carved from a single block of aluminum, but it uses all original NES parts.

Better yet, it runs all your old games, as well as games that only run on the Japanese version of the NES (the Famicom). Even better than that? It "upscales" the resolution of old games to work on modern televisions, making them look better than ever.

MORE ON THE ANALOGUE NT: An interview with Analogue Interactive owner Christopher Taber

The Analogue Nt, as it's known, makes classics like "Super Mario Bros. 3" – from 1990 – as gorgeous as possible by using an array of output methods.

The console plays every original NES game, as well as their Japanese equivalents ("Famicom" games).

More than just games, the Analogue Nt works with both original NES and Famicom gamepads too!

The final episode of 'Top Gear' with Jeremy Clarkson was a ratings disappointment

Jeremy Clarkson BBC

It's official. The "Top Gear" that became a global media phenomenon is over.

Over the weekend, the BBC aired the final episode of the car show featuring the hosting trio of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May.

Unfortunately, the episode's 5.3 million viewers was much lower than originally anticipated, The Hollywood Reporter's Alex Ritman reported.

In fact, according to the Daily Mail's Imogen Calderwood, the episode was expected to draw 8.4 million viewers — the highest-rated in single show history.

The actual viewership for the episode was the lowest of show's 22nd season.

Prior to airing on Sunday, Jeremy Clarkson sent out a tweet accusing the BBC of downplaying the episode.

"Strange that BBC News is talking down the last Top Gear tonight," Clarkson tweeted. "Do they not want big ratings for some reason?"

Sunday's final episode is comprised of previously unseen footage shot before Clarkson was dismissed from the BBC in March.

The 75-minute long episode featured two films that was originally destined for season 22 of "Top Gear" Although, Clarkson returned to the show for voice over work, only Hammond and May were tasked with the hosting duties.

But in true "Top Gear" fashion, Clarkson's presence — or lack thereof — was addressed in the form of a large elephant figure in the room.

Also missing from the episode was the show's signature studio audience, who would frequently interact with the show's hosts.

After the episode aired, Clarkson, thanked the show's fans on twitter and lamented the unfortunate way his tenure came to an end.

So what's next for the hosting trio?

Last week, Jeremy Clarkson confirmed to the Sunday Times that he — along with his cohosts — will return to TV with a new car show.

Though the publication reported that an announcement is expected in a matter of weeks, the exact network on which the show will air has yet to be confirmed.

Sources told the Daily Mirror's Nigel Pauley, however, that the ex-"Top Gear" trio — along with former showrunner Andy Wilman — were "very close" to a deal with Netflix.

Top Gear BBCIn recent months, the foursome has held meetings with numerous potential suitors including the British broadcaster ITV. But Netflix seems to have come out on top.

Netflix, the American online media-streaming service, is home to such award-winning original programming as "House of Cards" and "Orange is the New Black."

According to the Sunday Times, the new Clarkson-fronted car show will probably debut sometime after next March.

The 22nd season of "Top Gear" ended abruptly in March after only seven of the nine planned episodes had aired because of the suspension and subsequent dismissal of Clarkson.

Top Gear James May Richard HammondHammond and May followed Clarkson out the door by voluntarily declining to renew their respective BBC contracts, which expired in April. Wilman — longtime executive producer and close friend of Clarkson — also left the BBC after the host's dismissal.

The network's decision to part ways with the polarizing TV personality came after an internal BBC inquiry found Clarkson had punched a "Top Gear" producer when he failed to obtain a hot steak dinner after a long day of filming.

The fracas with the producer came after a controversy-filled 2014 for Clarkson, who was mired in scandal stemming from accusations of racist, sexist, and culturally insensitive comments.

Prior to his dismissal, Clarkson had spent nearly three decades with the BBC as a host on "Top Gear" and is credited with being the driving force behind the show's explosive international success.

Jeremy Clarkson Top GearIn June, the BBC introduced radio DJ Chris Evans as the new front man for "Top Gear." As a result, the 23rd season of the "Top Gear" will most likely feature a lineup of all-new hosts and be the first to not feature Jeremy Clarkson since 2000. Clarkson made his first appearance on "Top Gear" in 1988 and presided over the show's transformation from an automotive news magazine to its current entertainment-centric format.

With more than 350 million weekly viewers, "Top Gear" set the Guinness World Record as the most watched factual TV program in the world. In addition to the UK show, the "Top Gear" brand includes numerous international spinoffs, a live stadium tour, merchandising, a successful magazine, and a website.

This teen broke into the set of 'Orange Is the New Black' and staged an amazing photo shoot

While some people might dream about breaking out of prison, Samantha Gardella, 19, dreamt of breaking in — so she did.

The Monroe, New York, teenager was able to walk right onto the set of "Orange Is the New Black," the Netflix show that centers around a women's prison in upstate New York, last week.

Amazingly, no one tried to stop Gardella from wandering the premises and nothing was locked, so getting onto set was as easy as driving there, she told Business Insider.

The Tumblr devotee and photography lover didn't stop at walking around the set. She also created a photo series combining screen grabs from the show aligned with the real-life set.

"Orange Is the New Black" uses the abandoned Rockland Children's Psychiatric Center as a stand-in for a fictional women's prison: Litchfield Correctional Facility. The show's exteriors are shot there, while its interiors are mostly shot on a set in Queens.

Gardella posted photos of her unofficial set tour to her Tumblr on Saturday, and as of 3 p.m. Monday, the photos had accumulated over 88,255 notes.

In this shot, Gardella is holding a picture of fictional Litchfield Correction Officer Scott O'Neill exactly where he stands in a scene from the season two finale.

Gardella, who enjoys photography in her free time, only recently realized how close she lived to the set of her favorite show.

"When I found out they filmed 25 minutes away from my house, I immediately thought it would be a great opportunity for me to go there and take pictures," Gardella told Business Insider 0f the OITNB photo series.

Here's one of Gardella's pictures featuring Litchfield inmate Mei Chang in season three.

Once she found the location, getting onto the premises was easy, she says.

"Since it's abandoned, there is really no security," Gardella said. "There were no crew members there that day and weirdly, everything was completely unlocked."

In this image, Gardella recreates a mother-daughter moment between the characters Aleida and Dayanara Diaz from the show's third season.

ointb

To produce the images, Gardella watched each season of OINTB and carefully screen-shotted all the outdoor scenes. When she got to the set, she wandered the property until she found each location.

She snapped the creative images by holding her iPhone 4S in the hand that is not visible in her photos.

In the below picture you can see several OINTB cast members wandering the Litchfield yard. Even the clouds match almost perfectly.

Gardella's inspiration for her Tumblr photos came came from the social media platform. She got the idea after seeing a similar-style photo that a user had taken on the set of AMC's "The Walking Dead," she told Business Insider.

This photo features a screen shot from season two in the the garden of the notorious Litchfield cook, Galina "Red" Reznikov.

ointb

Gardella considers herself to be a big OINTB fan and cites Poussey Washington and Tasha "Taystee" Jefferson as her favorite characters.

"I watch 'Orange Is The New Black' because it shows criminals being human," Gardella said. "And we see what they were like before they were in prison. Getting the back stories of the inmates is one of the best parts of the series."

For this picture, Gardella used a screen grab with four Litchfield inmates, including Marisol "Flaca" Gonzales and Dayanara "Daya" Diaz, who are on the far right of the image.

Gardella also shot a video tour of "Litchfield." Check it out below.

Why the new Terminator movie had to come out this year

terminator genisys young terminator

Usually, you hear horror stories about movies that took an incredibly long time to make it from development to the big screen.

But that wasn't the case for "Terminator Genisys" which was rushed into production in a race against the copyright clock. If it didn't come out this year, then there might not have been thoughts of a new "Terminator" movie.

The "Terminator" franchise has bounced from studio to studio since the original was released in 1984. Director James Cameron originally sold the rights to the film for $1 to producer Gale Anne Hurd. The stipulation of this agreement was that Cameron would be allowed to direct "The Terminator."

At the time, Cameron was a young, untested director. His only previous directing credit was "Pirahna Part Two: The Spawning." If he didn't sell the rights, then he might not have gotten the chance to bring his own idea to life.

Cameron recently said he regrets his decision to sell the rights.

“I wish I hadn’t sold the rights for one dollar,” Cameron told the Toronto Sun in 2009. “If I had a little time machine and I could only send back something the length of a tweet, it’d be — ‘Don’t sell.’ ”

James Cameron TerminatorOrion Pictures and Hemdale Pictures first owned the rights to 1984's "The Terminator. Since then, the rights have bounced around to TriStar ("Terminator 2: Judgment Day"), and Warner Brothers ("Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines" and "Terminator Salvation").

Siblings Megan (Annapurna Pictures) and David (Skydance Productions) Ellison picked up the rights for the "Terminator" franchise back in 2013 after an intense bidding war which included Lionsgate and Sony.

However, in 2019, Cameron will finally regain ownership of the franchise he created, regardless of whether or not any new films are made between now and then. New changes in copyright law now work in Cameron's favor.

According to Deadline, changes in the law means that copyright reversion now occurs after 35 years. "The Terminator" was released in 1984. Therefore, 2019 is the year that Cameron would get it back.

terminator genisysThis gives the Ellisons only four years to flesh out a trilogy. Normally, sequels aren't announced until after it has been proven whether or not a film is a hit. In the case of "Terminator Genisys," this was the plan all along.

While no official sequel has been announced yet, it is clear that there has been a plan for a trilogy from the get-go. When screenwriters Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier were writing "Genisys," they always viewed it as the start of a trilogy working alongside Skydance Production's David Ellison and CCO Dana Goldberg, according to new release "Terminator Genisys: Resetting the Future."

Gambling on a sequel before even knowing how well the predecessor does is risky, but this has led the crew behind the new "Terminator" trilogy to get more ambitious.

In an interview with /film, David Ellison cited "Lord of the Rings" and Star Wars" as two of his favorite trilogies, and he wants his "Terminator" trilogy to reach that level. So, he is taking a similar approach to it.

"...those two have one thing in common which was they were all written prior to shooting a frame of the first movie. They knew they were going to, so you weren’t having to figure it out as you go along." Ellison said.

"Terminator Genisys" hits theaters on July 1.

The new 'Star Wars' game is a love letter to 'Star Wars' superfans

Who doesn't want to take on Darth Vader's Imperial forces, carefully toppling a massive AT-AT walker as Storm Troopers scatter for their lives across the snow-covered hills of Hoth? Perhaps you're more of a Darth yourself, and the hippie dippy Rebel forces are the last distraction between you and inter-galactic dominance?

The upcoming "Star Wars Battlefront" wants to enable both of these fantasies – and many, many more. The game's developers at Electronic Arts-owned DICE in Stockholm, Sweden are going deep on fan service with "Battlefront," even taking the time to carefully capture all of the aging models of the original trilogy's most iconic components: the original Lightsaber, the Death Star, the X-Wing, and much more.

DICE general manager Patrick Bach talked through the process of re-creation for "Star Wars: Battlefront" with Business Insider, as seen in the video above. The game arrives this November on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

'South Park' creators predict their show will end with a 'fizzle' and a 'dud'

matt stone trey parker south park

Comedy Central's "South Park" is guaranteed to run for two more seasons thanks to a deal that secured the show through 2016. But that hasn't stopped the show's creators, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, from envisioning how their long-standing animated series will eventually conclude.

In an interview with IGN promoting their new video game, "South Park: The Fractured But Whole," Stone and Parker revealed how they see the series finale going down.

"I think it's going to end with a fizzle, for sure," Parker said, laughing. "I think it's just going to end with some dud, and we're gonna go, 'F--- this, man,' and walk away."

"Some sort of whimper," Stone added. "Either drop the mic, get sued, get thrown off television — something like that."

Stone and Parker also discussed how they've felt that the show, which concluded its 18th season last December, has always been on the precipice of a collapse that they somehow seem to consistently avoid.

"Yeah, we've thought that for 18 years," Parker said. "We're like, 'Okay, well, they're going to cancel us, for sure!' We've been waiting to get canceled for 18 f---ing years."

"We won't stop until we get canceled," Stone added. "We're renewing. They have to f---ing cancel us, goddammit!"

For now, before season 19 starts up in September, the guys are busy promoting their hilariously titled "South Park: The Fractured But Whole," a sequel to their 2014 video game "South Park: The Stick of Truth."

'Scream' producer reveals 3 things to expect from MTV's new reboot

scream premiere

MTV's "Scream" is just one of the dozens of movie adaptations making its way to the small screen.

For new, younger audiences, MTV's series may be the first experience with the franchise. Others may have grown up with the self-referential horror franchise. So, where does MTV's "Scream" sit on that spectrum?

"First off, it completely honors the franchise and fans of the franchise will love this and I think it also will bring a whole new group of fans to it," former MTV programming president, founder of production studio DiGa, and an executive producer on the "Scream" series, Tony DiSanto, tells Business Insider.

"You don’t have to have seen the films to jump right into this. It’s almost like the Christopher Nolan sort of reboot of 'Scream.'"

Making the "Scream" TV series has brought together several personal and career points for DiSanto: From working with one of the original producers of 1996's "Scream," Bob Weinstein, and returning to MTV with the project (where he also produces "Teen Wolf.")

On MTV's "Scream," a viral video begins to cause havoc for the teenagers of Lakewood. Those escalate into a murder and secrets begin to become uncovered.

Here are three things DiSanto told us to expect from the new "Scream" series:

bella thorne scream mtv Nina Patterson1.) This is a complete reboot.
DiSanto continued, "It’s starting over, but you’ll recognize the DNA of the original storylines but it’s not continuation. It’s not characters that reference anything that’s happened in the original franchise. It’s a completely fresh start."

scream 19962.) A reboot doesn't mean we won't see some old friends.
When we asked DiSanto if we'd get any cameos from the movies' stars, he didn't say no.

"I don’t want to give too much away but I think it’s safe to say that you’ll see some surprises along the way," he teased.

Scream Mask3.) The body count on Season 1 may not be as high as the movies.
"Our goal of this was to have a cast of characters, a scenario, a world that we’re living with them and not rebooting every season like Season 2 isn’t 'Scream 2,' DiSanto explained. "You’ve got to be living with these people for a longer period of time. People can’t just be cannon fodder. They need to be characters and people that you care about. So all of that was part of the development process of this and the creative challenge of taking the franchise and adapting it to TV."

"Scream" premieres Tuesday at 10 p.m. on MTV.

How to watch Venus and Jupiter come together in a rare close encounter that won't happen again for nearly a decade

conjunction

There's a celestial event happening tonight that will be so bright even observers in dense, luminous cities, including New York City, will get to see it, so long as the skies remain clear of clouds.

The two brightest planets in the night sky — Venus and Jupiter — will appear to pass extremely close to one another on the evening of June 30. It'll be the closest they've been all year, and their apparent distance from one another will be so small that if you took the tip of your pinky finger and placed it over both planets, you would completely cover them!

This close encounter is called the Venus-Jupiter conjunction and it usually happens once a year. But this year's event is particularly special because of when it's taking place and how close the planets will appear to come together — close enough that they will almost seem to collide with each other.

To see this awesome event, all you have to do is go outside and look up in the right direction at the right time (no special equipment necessary):

"Look to the west-northwest as soon as it gets dark," Patrick Hartigan, an astronomer at Rice University explains on his website. "After about two hours for most latitudes the objects will become difficult to observe as they begin to set. They are bright. You might mistake them for airplanes."

Jupiter and Venus will be bright enough that you might even be able to see both of the planets during the twilight hour before it gets dark.

Throughout the entire month of June, Venus and Jupiter have been inching ever-closer in the night sky. Here's an animation showing their motion since June 20 and how close they'll be on the evening of June 30:

conjunctionVenus and Jupiter are not only the brightest planets, they're also the brightest objects — besides the Moon — that observers can spot at night. In fact, they're so bright they can even be seen from cities, unlike most stars and all other planets.

Of course, the planets are not actually going to collide. They only appear to do so because of their locations in the night sky. At the time of the conjunction, Venus will be 49 million miles from Earth while Jupiter will be more than 10 times farther, 564 million miles.

Although there's at least one Venus-Jupiter conjunction each year, not all of them are visible or nearly as spectacular as the one taking place tonight. That's because sometimes the conjunction happens during the day while other times it will be visible at night, but the two planets' closest approach will be farther apart. Here's an image of the conjunction of 2012 when the two planets weren't nearly as close as they'll be on June 30:

conjunctionThese differences all depend on the speed and orientation of Venus, Jupiter, and Earth as they orbit the sun. The next time the planets will align like this and we'll see a spectacular conjunction will be on March 1, 2023.

If you get any shots of the conjunction, send them with a description, your name, and location to our science team at science@businessinsider.com and we might feature them on our site.

Here's why George Takei says ‘Star Trek’ fans are 'totally accepting' of sexual orientation

George Takei"Star Trek" actor George Takei didn't come out until 2005, when he was 68-years-old.

At the time, he tells Variety in a new interview, "I was totally prepared for my career to recede when I spoke to the press for the first time" about his sexual orientation.

But, says the now 78-year-old, "What happened after that blew me away. I started getting more offers. My career blossomed. I got more guest shots as gay George Takei than ever."

Takei starred in the "Star Trek" TV series as "Sulu" from 1966-1969. He has also appeared in an animated "Star Trek" series, video games, and seven "Star Trek" movies. In 2015 alone, Takei will appear in six different TV and movie projects.

Takei believes his recent career boost is in part thanks to the accepting and loyal "Star Trek" fans.

He explains to Variety:

'Star Trek' fans totally accepted my sexual orientation. There are a great number of LGBT people across 'Star Trek' fandom. The show always appealed to people that were different — the geeks and the nerds, and the people who felt they were not quite a part of society, sometimes because they may have been gay or lesbian.

'Star Trek' is about acceptance and the strength of the Starship Enterprise is that it embraces diversity in all its forms.

Takei has been with his partner, Brad Takei, since 1987. After becoming the first same-sex couple to apply for a marriage license in West Hollywood, the two married in 2008.

On Friday, the Supreme Court ruled to legalize gay marriage nationwide. Since then, tons of celebrities have voiced their support of the decision.

A new app from rapper Tyler, the Creator is redefining communication between artists and fans

tyler the creator

Tyler, the Creator is primarily known as a musician, having sold half a million records in his career, including his newest, "Cherry Bomb."

But Tyler, real name Tyler Okonma, is not content to just rap or produce his own beats.

He also has his own clothing line, his own annual carnival and music festival in Los Angeles, his own show on Cartoon Network, and, until recently, a Los Angeles-based store with his Odd Future collective.

Now he wants all of his prolific output to be available on one platform. On April 8, Tyler released his Golf Media app, which gives users direct access to videos, photos, clothing, music, articles, tour dates, other events, and pretty much anything he likes, sidestepping the typical segmented avenues of distribution.

"We're cutting out the middleman of how businesses work and allowing people like myself to just get straight to the point of whatever we do," Tyler said of the app at a Code Media talk earlier this year. "I'm creating my own network."

Also at that talk was Lloyd Braun, CEO of Whalerock Industries, who helped develop the app. "If all of a sudden there was no media, and we were going to start it today, in 2015, does anyone believe we'd have the archaic system that we have?" Braun said. "You wouldn't. You can connect directly to fans."

Tyler has a cult-like following, with 2.4 million followers on Twitter and 1.6 million more on Instagram. According to Tyler's manager, Christian Clancy, the app attracted more subscribers on its first day than Jay-Z's Tidal app.

Subscribers to the app also get access to exclusive events around the country. While on the tour for his new album, Tyler has been doing movie pop-ups in select theaters in certain cities, showing movies selected by him, inspired by his plan to one day own his own theater.

We recently attended one of these movie events in New York City and learned even more about how the app connects the iPhone to real life.

Golf Media Movie Event

A line had formed well before the event was scheduled to start, with some people arriving as early as 8 or 9 in the morning (according to one of the security guards) for the early-afternoon event. The line ended up being more than 150 people long, all of them subscribers to the app.

Eventually a couple of staff members came around and scanned unique barcodes within each person's app before giving out wristbands.

Golf Media Movie Event

Tyler was there to greet fans near the entrance to the theater with high fives, handshakes, and hugs. After about 15 minutes, he got on stage to give a brief introduction and to show a short trailer for the app.

For this event, Tyler chose the film "Zoolander," which, we have to say, still holds up very well 14 years later (which is probably good, considering a sequel is scheduled to be released next year).

Golf Media Movie Event

After the movie ended, a one-on-one interview with Tyler began. It was hosted and mediated by Shane Powers, who runs a radio program on the Golf Media app called "The Shane Show." The conversation between the two quickly turned into a Q&A session with the audience.

The session lasted an hour — Tyler was set to perform his concert a few hours after that. His app gave special access to the concert as well. If you had a wristband from the event, you were moved to a special line, where we got in the venue in a matter of five minutes. The app's benefits and potential are endless.

Tyler Show

For prolific and multi-talented artists such as Tyler, the Creator, with not only dedicated fan bases but also the ability to build their own world, this could be an interesting new realm to explore in the digital world. We look forward to seeing the future of platforms like this that allow for direct contact and distribution between artist and fans.

The triplex apartment, known as The Spencer Condominium, has four bedrooms and five bathrooms. The pre-war building even includes a private elevator that goes straight to the penthouse.

Rivers had relisted the apartment many times over the years, most recently in 2012.

Leighton Candler of Corcoran Group Real Estate handled the listing.

Here's the inspiring fan letter Steven Spielberg sent The Rock

Dwayne Johnson The rock

Former wrestler-turned-actor Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's career is on fire right now. His latest film "San Andreas" raked in over $441 million worldwide at the box office, he's starring on new HBO show "Ballers," and already has eight projects lined up through 2019.

But money and critical acclaim aside, Johnson said he recently experienced a moment in which he realized he had truly made it as an actor.

steven spielbergIn a new profile in Esquire magazine, Johnson says "About three weeks ago, I'm here at the house and I get a letter." It was from Steven Spielberg, and here's what the letter said:

"Been enjoying your movies over the years. Very entertaining. I feel like I've really gotten to know you over the years, most recently after watching you host 'Saturday Night Live.' Great job. You continue to go for it. Proud of your work and look forward to meeting you. Steven Spielberg."

In May, Johnson posted a photo of the letter from a far, and his reaction was priceless.

 on

He wrote in the post's caption:

Grinnin' now like a big ass kid... When I was 8yrs old I sat front row to see a sold out INDIANA JONES in its opening weekend in Charlotte, North Carolina. I walked out of that theater excited and wanted to be "Indy".. cool, funny, charming with the ladies and kickin' ass w/ a smile. But at 8yrs old I was also perfectly content playing w/ my Star Wars figures and sneaking off listening to Richard Pryor concerts. Throughout the years I've credited this man and his movies as being my greatest inspiration in becoming an actor and wanting to always make "his kind" of movies - entertaining, quality and above all else.. heart. Just receiving this personal letter from him and its not only made me incredibly humbled and grateful, but it's also brought me back to being that 8yr old boy again who not only loves movies, but I now get to make the movies I love and enjoy the impact they have on others. THANK YOU STEVEN SPIELBERG for these inspiring and motivating words in your letter and cheers to making sure I'm always listening to that little voice in my gut. #CoolestGiftEver #BigAss8yrOldKid #SpielbergInspired

When Esquire asked Johnson if he's ever gone wrong trusting his gut or instincts during his career, the former wrestler responded by quoting Spielberg:

I've never gone wrong trusting my gut. It was really the only thing that I had going into acting. I didn't have the background—Juilliard or performing-arts school or anything like that. You can get great people around you, smart minds and great resources, but it's still from here [points to heart].

Steven Spielberg has this great quote: "Moviemaking is always about noise. There's so many voices that you've gotta listen to. But you've always got to pay attention to the one voice that's in your gut that always tells you it's still not good enough."
