'Orange Is The New Black' breakout star Ruby Rose defines what it means to be 'gender fluid'

Australian model/actress Ruby Rose has become the breakout star of the recently released third season of Netflix's "Orange Is The New Black."

orange is the new black ruby rose netflixIt seems like everyone is talking about the 29-year-old androgynous beauty who plays mysterious new inmate Stella Carlin, who has eyes for Piper (Taylor Schilling).

orange is the new black ruby rose netflix 2In real life, Rose identifies as "gender fluid." She is currently engaged to Roald Dahl's granddaughter, designer Phoebe Dahl.
Ruby Rose Phoebe DahlRose has long been vocal about the rigidity of gender roles and recently defined being "gender fluid" to Elle magazine:

"Gender fluidity is not really feeling like you're at one end of the spectrum or the other. For the most part, I definitely don't identify as any gender. I'm not a guy; I don't really feel like a woman, but obviously I was born one. So, I'm somewhere in the middle, which – in my perfect imagination – is like having the best of both sexes."

She further explained: "I have a lot of characteristics that would normally be present in a guy and then less that would be present in a woman."

Ruby Rose"But then sometimes I'll put on a skirt – like today," Rose told Elle earlier this month.

Ruby Rose
Rose says that it's a choice she makes daily, "not having to succumb to whatever society – whether it's work or family or friends or whoever – makes you feel like you're supposed to be because of how you were born."

The "OITNB" actress says she especially identified with one particular scene this season:

There's a line in OITNB where Stella is making fun of Piper, saying like "Ugh. Women – can't live with them, can't live without them." Piper's like, "What? You don't consider yourself to be a woman?" Stella says, "I do, but that's only because my options are limited." It's a very small line, but what I really read from that is that she is a woman – obviously, she's in a female prison – but if she had it her way, she probably wouldn't be. But, what's her option? To transition to a guy and then be in a men's prison would be incredibly dangerous.

"The takeaway," she says, "is that only you know who you were born to be, and you need to be free to be that person."

Ruby Rose tattoos knuckles just loveOn the heels of Caitlyn Jenner's Vanity Fair debut, Rose tells Elle, "I'm just proud to be alive during this massive shift in the world."

"Between 'Orange' with Laverne, the show 'Transparent,' and Caitlyn Jenner, obviously we're in the middle of something enormous – a transgender movement."

White students explain what white privilege means to them in new MTV documentary

mtv white people preview

Have you ever wondered how white people really feel about how other races are treated versus how they're treated by others? Here's your chance.

In an effort to understand how races really perceive one another, MTV and Jose Antonio Vargas partnered to create the documentary "White People."

Vargas is the founder of Define American, which uses media to create conversations surrounding race, and he is the founding editor of #EmergingUS, a coming digital magazine in partnership with the Los Angeles Times that plans to cover race, immigration, and identity, as well as white Americans as they are becoming a racial minority.

In "White People," Vargas travels across the US to tell the story of five white youths of different backgrounds. Along the way, he also has conversations about race with young people at schools and community centers.

In an enlightening preview from the documentary, Vargas interviews a class about what white privilege means to them.

"You kind of get this feeling as you grow up that things belong to you," one female student answered.

"I can walk to a convenience store and back without getting hassled by the police," a male student added.

Another male student, pictured above, said: "I won't have to deal with the prejudices that someone who's Asian, someone who's black, someone who's Hispanic, has to deal with. That's my privilege as a white person. It's [expletive], but it's true."

Watch the preview below:

"White People" premieres Wednesday, July 22, at 8 p.m. on MTV.

Marvel just announced a revamped 'Doctor Strange' comic ahead of the Benedict Cumberbatch movie

'Doctor Strange' #1

We've known that Marvel has had plans for a "Doctor Strange" film for almost a year, but the character soon to be played by Benedict Cumberbatch has not had a comic of his own for almost five years now. This fall, that finally changes: Marvel has announced a brand-new comic series starring Stephen Strange, Sorceror Supreme, and it's putting some serious talent behind the wheel.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the new comic, simply called "Doctor Strange," will be written by Jason Aaron with art by Chris Bachalo, and will redefine the character as more of a superhero. As of late, Marvel's Sorceror Supreme has been relegated to a supporting role, called upon in books like "New Avengers" to plumb the dark and disturbing depths of magic to aid other heroes against threats they can't understand. Aaron and Bachalo aim to change that and make him more of an "active, hands-on hero," complete with an arsenal of weapons and a more grounded focus.

"We wanted a Doctor Strange who was always having to work for what he gets, and to show that when he shows up and uses his powers, it’s not like Captain America throwing his shield or Thor throwing his hammer," writer Jason Aaron told EW. "Strange has to worry about repercussions that those other heroes don’t have to worry about, because he’s a Sorcerer Supreme."

With a new film just shy of a year away, chances are the new "Doctor Strange" series will redefine the character in a way that will be more in line with how he will be portrayed in the movie. There's a bit of a precedent for this: Marvel's 2015 "Ant-Man" relaunch by Nick Spencer and Ramon Rosanos, while very good, was an almost entirely different take on its eponymous hero. That series took Scott Lang, the current Ant-Man — who had just undergone a moving and emotional arc following the death of a child — and turned him into down-on-his-luck underdog who tries to do right by his ex-wife and kid but often comes up short.

Similarly, the new action-heavy "Doctor Strange" will likely pivot the character from his traditional cerebral, ponderous, and trippy trajectory to something more palatable and exciting to help get new readers excited about the character. Longtime comics readers, however, will likely be excited by the creators working on the book.

Marvel has an all-star team in Aaron and Bachalo — over the last few years, Jason Aaron has become Marvel's go-to writer for some of its biggest titles, like this year's big "Star Wars" series. Similarly, Chris Bachalo is one of the most recognizable and talented artists on the Marvel roster, and his distinctive style has helped define the publisher's "X-Men" titles for the better part of a decade. It's a big, attention-grabbing move — kind of like casting Benedict Cumberbatch

Head over to EW for the full interview with Jason Aaron and series editor Nick Lowe, along with a first look at Chris Bachalo's artwork.

Here's why Louis C.K. and Lorne Michaels fought over an 'SNL' monologue

Louis c.k. SNL

In an interview featured in Judd Apatow's new book, "Sick in the Head," comedian Louis C.K. revealed that he had an intense disagreement with "Saturday Night Live" showrunner Lorne Michaels when hosting the show for the second time in 2014.

Relaying the story to Apatow, C.K. explained that he was very displeased when Michaels wanted to cut down his 12 minute rehearsal monologue — which C.K. had "obsessed" over and crafted at open mic nights — to eight minutes.

While C.K. was adamant that all 12 minutes stay in, Michaels disagreed, saying "It was good, but there was a lot of air in it, a lot of stopping and starting. I know there are cuts in there."

"My face turned red," C.K. said. "I was angry. I was like, "Well, I don't know. I thought [the set] was pretty good. And f--- you.'"

lorne michaelsMichaels responded by showing him the rehearsal tape, and that's when C.K. realized that the routine wasn't as tight as he thought it was.

"My point was to prove how great it was," C.K. said. "And I watched it and I was like, God damn, it's not that good. Tons of air. And a lot of stopping and starting. I had a whole fart thing. A whole thing about farting on a baby that f---ing killed, and [Michaels] was like, 'You're winning without it. I wouldn't do it.' So I realized the farting on babies was stupid and it's going to ruin the monologue."

The monologue that finally made it on to the live show was eight minutes of Louis C.K. at his best — featuring dark and hilarious material on third world hunger, feminism, and religion.

Despite their heated disagreement, C.K. expressed his respect for Michaels — "He's so smart, but he scared me. And I needed to go in scared" — and ultimately, C.K. returned to host for a third time this year with an even more controversial monologue, which dipped into off-color comments on child molestation and racism.

Ryan Gosling is furious with Costco

Ryan Gosling is attacking Costco for alleged animal abuse at one of its egg suppliers.

Gosling wrote a letter to Costco CEO Craig Jelinek regarding the alleged mistreatment, which was recorded in an undercover video released earlier this month.

"Video footage revealed abhorrent cruelty including rows upon rows of birds confined in filth-laden cages with the mummified corpses of their cage-mates — eating, sleeping, defecating, and laying eggs on top of dead birds— and hens’ wings, legs, and necks trapped in the corroded wires of their battery cages," Gosling writes. "It is appalling that Costco has been selling these eggs with deceptive labeling on cartons featuring graphics of birds living out in a green pasture."

We reached out to Costco for comment and will update when we hear back.

The retailer has previously defended the supplier — Hillandale Farms of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania — that is depicted in the video.

The warehouse club said its inspections "confirmed for us that Hillandale is behaving appropriately," according to a statement provided to CBS News

However, Costco added that "Hillandale has identified some areas in which it believes it can improve, including process improvement and more training for its employees."

Gosling says Costco should "go completely cage-free for its eggs."

"You’re already eliminating cages for veal calves and pigs – don’t you feel that chickens also deserve the same mercy?" he writes.

John Oliver just took on one of the biggest, most disturbing problems of the internet

John Oliver - Internet Harassment

One of the things that makes John Oliver's "Last Week Tonight" great is the way that it sheds light on terrible problems that are extremely easy to ignore if you aren't directly affected by them. This week, Oliver finally took on one of the biggest: Online harassment, particularly of women.

One of the worst aspects of the internet can be the way it can magnify the worst aspects of interacting with others. Oliver took the time recently to explore the frighteningly specific threats of violence women get online and how the legal system deals with it.

Oliver illustrates this with clips of women describing the very graphic and violent threats they've received online for what they say have no reason.

"[This] can potentially affect any woman who makes the mistake of having a thought in her mind, and then vocalizing it online," Oliver said.

Oliver goes on to speak about how this is compounded by the fact that law enforcement is ill-equipped to handle death threats online — and often don't even know what Twitter is. "That's a problem," said Oliver, "because the police cannot investigate a crime if they genuinely don't understand the medium in which it happened."

And there's plenty more to unpack.

You can watch the whole segment here:

What Oliver explored on this week's "Last Week Tonight" has been brought up by women for a very long time — this 2007 Columbia Journalism Review article about a female tech blogger receiving death threats is still timely today. However, beginning with a Pacific Standard feature by writer Amanda Hess that ran in January of 2014 (one that Oliver cites in his piece), the discussion surrounding online harassment of women has started to gain more traction.

Pixar’s imaginative ‘Inside Out’ was so powerful that it changed the way I understand my own emotions

inside out pixar

How do you make a grown man cry? Show them a Pixar movie, of course.

“Inside Out,” a fantastic return to form for America’s greatest animation studio, is a painstakingly made, high-stakes epic taking place inside of a brain.

This is “Inception” for kids. Although, “Inside Out” is not exactly for kids.

“Inside Out” is not the best Pixar film, but it is certainly among their most ambitious, and the kind of confidently unconventional storytelling that takes years to slowly build up.

inside out pixar

Because they are usually bringing toys, robots, and fish to life, Pixar can sometimes have a human problem, in which the animated people are (purposely) more cartoonish than the rats and ants they provide a voice to. Well, it turns out they’ve finally found a way to give animated people another dimension: by personifying their emotions.

inside out joy

“Inside Out” takes place inside the brain of Riley (Kaitlyn Dias), a young girl who moves with her family from Minnesota to San Francisco, as her father (Kyle MacLachlan) is starting a new job. The move completely throws Riley off her emotional balance. Her brain is constantly fought over by different emotions personified within her — Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Disgust (Mindy Kaling), Fear (Bill Hader), and Anger (Lewis Black).

Like Andy with Woody in "Toy Story," Riley seems to be outgrowing her oldest friend Joy, the very first emotion she ever experienced.

The corresponding voice to each emotion is so perfectly cast. Poehler brings the same optimism she brought to Leslie Knope on "Parks and Recreation" to Joy while Kaling brings some "Mindy Project" sass to Disgust. Fans of "The Office," meanwhile, will be happy to hear the voice of beloved background character Phyllis as Sadness. She is the true emotional core of this very emotional film.

inside out disney

This is the kind of movie that takes depression, loneliness, and loss and turns them into a swashbuckling adventure. It is a wonderful outlet of providing both escape and understanding of many conflicting emotions.

“Inside Out” will be great for kids who might not understand why they are so angry and confused all of the time. It will also be great for adults, who have been angry for a long time and don’t understand why. “Inside Out” might seem more mature than its target audience, but this film was truly made for everybody. It bridges the gap between old and young like most summer blockbusters don’t even bother to do anymore.

And what a beautiful looking, imaginative, and original film this is.

inside out

In the film, little orbs represent different memories, some happy and some sad, but they never distinguish between what is good and what is bad. Each part of the brain, from dreams to the subconscious, is represented in a way that I have never seen before in any movie. There is one particular scene where you’ll feel like you’re watching a Salvador Dali painting come to life. It is perhaps Pixar’s most astonishing visual feat.

The small and limited setting of the brain gives this film the highest stakes imaginable.

No, this isn’t about saving the universe or even just the world. No dinosaurs reek havoc on an island and nobody has to launch a missile through a wormhole in outer space. This is simply about a child learning how to wrestle with their emotions. And in that, it feels like every moment counts and every little mistake will lead to tremendous “Back to the Future” like consequences.

Inside Out

I sat and watched this film, and by the end, I felt overwhelmingly sad. Tears flowed, and a pile of napkins from the snack bar came to the rescue. I was charmed and entertained by “Inside Out” just as I expected to be. Then, something strange happened. This film, which, again, is like “Inception” with less complicated rules, plants an idea in the head of every viewer.

After the film ended, I went home, as a 23-year-old adult, and realized that maybe I don't understand my own emotions as well as I thought. Suddenly, all I could think about was a personified Joy and a personified Sadness wandering around the deepest parts of my brain. It is as if Pixar is trying to rewire our brains.

“Inside Out” gives a whole new meaning to the phrase “it made me feel like a kid again.” Kids have no idea what they are doing. It turns out that adults don’t either. So let’s all shut up, sit in the dark, and enjoy Pixar’s latest masterpiece together.

Critical favorite 'Hannibal' canceled after three seasons by NBC

Hannibal Lecter's reign of terror is over at NBC.

The network and executive producer Bryan Fuller announced on Monday that the series will not be renewed for a fourth season. The series will finish its Season 3 run on Thursdays at 10 p.m.

“NBC has allowed us to craft a television series that no other broadcast network would have dared, and kept us on the air for three seasons despite Cancellation Bear Chow ratings and images that would have shredded the eyeballs of lesser Standards & Practices enforcers," Fuller said in a statement. "[Entertainment president] Jen Salke and her team have been fantastic partners and creatively supportive beyond measure. 'Hannibal' is finishing his last course at NBC’s table this summer, but a hungry cannibal can always dine again. And personally, I look forward to my next meal with NBC.”

NBC added: "We have been tremendously proud of ‘Hannibal’ over its three seasons. Bryan and his team of writers and producers, as well as our incredible actors, have brought a visual palette of storytelling that has been second to none in all of television — broadcast or cable. We thank Gaumont and everyone involved in the show for their tireless efforts that have made ‘Hannibal’ an incredible experience for audiences around the world.”

silence of the lambsWhile "Hannibal" has never been a ratings barn burner for NBC, it has been a critical favorite. Its airings during the late-spring/summer when ratings needs are lower also allowed the network to give it a break.

The series returned on June 4 and over its three subsequent episodes has only averaged 1.98 million viewers and a very low .57 rating in the advertiser-coveted 18-49-year-old demographic, according to Nielsen.

Taking place before the events of 1991 film "Silence of the Lambs," "Hannibal" was based on characters from the Thomas Harris novel, "Red Dragon."

"Hannibal"starred Hugh Dancy as FBI Special Agent Will Graham, a crime scene investigator with a special understanding of murderers and psychopaths, and Mad Mikkelsen as Lecter, a forensic psychiatrist with a hunger for human flesh who will become Graham's biggest challenge.

The number of viewers that Comedy Central gets on YouTube versus regular TV is staggering

We like to be on our personal devices more than we like to watch TV.

A New York Times Magazine article, “Comedy Central in the Post-TV Era,” takes a closer look at the network and the man behind its recent string of hit shows, Kent Alterman, president of content and original programming at the cable network.

While the article examines the way Comedy Central cultivates talent and is always developing new shows that will hit the ever-changing comedy zeitgeist, one striking section in the piece was the revelation of how out of date the Nielsen ratings system is.

Neilsen is the industry standard in audience measurement of a show. And when it comes to setting advertising prices for shows, the numbers generated by Neilsen set those figures.

GettyImages 476656234 However, as Alterman explained, the system Comedy Central and many others are held to is not holding up with today's viewing habits.

He said:

“What we sell is called C3 ratings: how many people watched a show in the first three days, without fast-forwarding through the commercials.”

That rating is so out of date that, according to the Times piece, even Viacom’s chief executive (Comedy Central is under the Viacom umbrella), Philippe Dauman, voiced his frustration about Neilsen to a conference call of reporters last November, in which he said the service had “not caught up to the marketplace.”

The stats* of how we watch Comedy Central’s most popular shows are staggering:

The Oscar-winning composer behind Titanic hit “My Heart Will Go On”, James Horner, is missing, feared dead, after a plane registered in his name was found crashed and burning near Santa Barbara, California.

Only the pilot was aboard the plane when it crashed. It is not confirmed whether Horner, 61 years-old and a keen aviator, was the pilot

Fire officials say they found the wrecked plane about 2 miles west of Highway 33 in Southern California. Officials discovered the tail section of Horner's two-seater S312 Tucano MK1 single engine turoprop plane, according to Mashable.

One of Horner's attorneys Jay Cooper told The Daily Mail that the plane was one of several owned by Horner. He also noted that "if [Horner] wasn't in it, he would have called."

In an interview with KNBC-LA, Cooper said, "We haven't heard from James ... We don't know where he was headed...He flies a lot and is an experienced pilot."

His agency has not commented on the crash and his lawyer told Mashable no one has heard from Horner since the crash was reported around 9.30am local time.

Horner is best known for his work on James Cameron's "Titanic," for which he won Oscars for best original dramatic score and best original song for "My Heart Will Go On." Horner also composed the scores for "Braveheart," "Glory," "Avatar," "Legends of the Fall," and "A Beautiful Mind."

jurassic world"Jurassic World" has done the unthinkable.

Not only does the film hold the record for highest-grossing opening weekend, but, for a second week in a row, the fourth film in the "Jurassic Park" franchise brought in over $100 million at the box office, making it the second movie ever, after 2012's "Avengers," to accomplish that feat.

It's also now the fastest film to hit $1 billion in just 13 days.

Previously, that record belonged to "Furious 7," another Universal film, which broke the record in 17 days.

The "Fast and Furious" sequel has made over $1.5 billion at the box office to date.

Back in February, the studio's "Fifty Shades of Grey" adaptation had the best-opening weekend at the box office for that month and one of the largest openings for an R-rated film. It has now made over $569 million worldwide on an estimated $40 million budget.

While all three films grossly outperformed analyst expectations, Marvel Studios' "Avengers" sequel crossed the billion-dollar number in 24 days.

If you asked anyone last year, their predictions for the biggest films of the year would have been a no-brainer: The "Avengers" sequel in May followed by the next "Star Wars" installment come December.

Disney was easily set to dominate the box office with those two films alone.

Early projections for "Star Wars" sit between $1.75 billion and $3 billion. Anything over $2.7 billion would give it the all-time box office record, topping 2009's "Avatar."

chewbacca harrison ford the force awakensUniversal sure isn't making it easy.

Don't forget the studio is also responsible for the "Pitch Perfect" sequel which had a big $69 million opening. A third film has already been announced with stars Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson set to return.

And, with another big film out in July in a "Despicable Me" spinoff, "Minions," Universal may very well have its third billion-dollar movie on its way. "Despicable Me 2" made over $970 million during its 2013 run at theaters.

minion movie"Minions," which will focus on the lovable yellow servant to the "Despicable Me" villain Gru, is in theaters July 10.

An ex-NFL player who made $13 million and retired at age 26 is now a writer for HBO's 'Ballers'

Rashard Mendenhall

In 2014 former Pittsburgh Steelers and Arizona Cardinals running back Rashard Mendenhall retired at age 26, walking away from millions in potential earnings. While Mendenhall may no longer be playing, he's still drawing on his NFL experience as a part of his new job.

Since retiring Mendenhall, who made more than $13.8 million during his six-year career, joined the Writers Guild of America and worked as a writer on the first season of HBO's "Ballers," which aired its series premiere last Sunday.

"Ballers" is about an ex-NFL player who transitions to life as an agent. It stars Dwayne The Rock Johnson, and has been widely compared to "Entourage."

While a former NFL player seamlessly transitioning from football to screenwriting may come as a surprise, Mendenhall told USA Today's Lindsay H. Jones he knew this is what he always wanted to do once his career ended:

"I've always known I wanted to write. It was always a passion of mine — it was peace, a getaway. It was also, even while I was playing, it was kind of an artist mentality. You have a day job, but the art that you're working on is what you really want to do. ...I knew that when I was done playing, that's what I was going to do. It was kind of always a thing behind [football], I just didn't know what to what extent in television or see how it was going to shape up."

Many athletes have a hard time transitioning to their new lives once their retire, but Mendenhall wrote in a blog post for The Huffington Post that hasn't been the case for him:

"I wasn't supposed to walk away from the NFL, but I did. I wasn't supposed to be writing television, but I am. I'm supposed to be lost after football. I'm not. I've reinvented myself. This is my first transformation. I'm supposed to be broke right now, or maybe the statistics say five years from now. Either way, I'm not even close. I'm not supposed to be anything but a football player. But really, I'm just a guy who used to play football. There's a reason I'm doing this."

Mendenhall is a part of a trend of under-30 players retiring in their primes. Jake Locker, Chris Borland, Anthony Smith, Patrick Willis, Anthony Davis, and Jason Worilds all retired this offseason. He told Jones he hopes to keep working on "Ballers" in the second season.

The PC version of 'Batman: Arkham Knight' sounds like a disaster

"Batman: Arkham Knight" is easily the most anticipated game of the summer, the grand finale to Rocksteady Games' critically-acclaimed "Arkham" trilogy of games. Early buzz surrounding the game was exceptionally good, and plenty of people are looking forward to playing it — unfortunately, the PC version of the game appears to be something of a disaster.

According to variousnewsoutlets the PC version of "Arkham Knight" has run into a number of performance issues, including frequent crashing and a stuttering frame rate. These issues have led to purchasers of the PC version of the game to leave a number of bad reviews on the "Arkham Knight" Steam page, as well as the prerequisite angry and frustrated tweets.

It's worth noting that review copies for the PC version were not provided ahead of the game's release. Many review copies weren't even being handed out until launch day.

"Arkham Knight" developer Rocksteady Games acknowledged the issues in a brief post on the "Arkham Knight" forums, while the game's PC requirements were quickly updated to help mitigate the issues — although that particular change may be a day late and a dollar short for many who have already bought the game.

While there is no official reason for the "Arkham Knight" PC woes, a Game Informer report suggests that it may be due to outsourced development on the PC version of the game.

24 people who became highly successful after age 40

vera wang

For the more neurotic among us, a birthday can be a reminder of how another year has passed and our loftiest aspirations have faded farther into the distance.

There are plenty of examples, however, of successful people across many industries who prove that you don't need to have it all figured out by the time you turn 30.

We'll take a look at some of them, from renowned fashion designer Vera Wang, who didn't design her first dress until she was 40, to writer Harry Bernstein, who authored countless rejected books before getting his first hit at age 96.

Get inspired by those who show it's never too late.

Stan Lee created his first hit comic, "The Fantastic Four," just shy of his 39th birthday in 1961. In the next few years, he created the legendary Marvel Universe, whose characters like Spider-Man and the X-Men became American cultural icons.

Donald Fisher was 40 and had no experience in retail when he and his wife, Doris, opened the first Gap store in San Francisco in 1969. The Gap's clothes quickly became fashionable, and today it's one of the world's largest clothing chains.

Vera Wang was a figure skater and journalist before entering the fashion industry at age 40. Today she's one of the world's premier women's designers.

Teens on Facebook are begging their moms to stop posting bizarre cartoon memes that make no sense

Moms have been dominating Facebook since about 2013, and oftentimes, the results are unintentionally hilarious.

But there's one Facebook mom craze that teens have had enough of: minion memes.

Minions are cartoon characters that originated in the 2010 film "Despicable Me," plus a sequel in 2013, and the upcoming "Minions," which hits theaters July 10.

They're also absurdly popular online.

As Brian Feldman pointed out at The Awl, minions are perfect for meme-ification because, similar to emoji, "they're yellow, they run the emotional spectrum, they function as a malleable shorthand for almost indescribable feelings." Check out this Pinterest search for "minion" if you need proof.

According to teens on Twitter and Tumblr, moms are the minion memes' biggest fans.

People are reposting minion memes with captions like, "STOP THIS NOW!"

The memes consist of cutesy, mischievous slogans accompanied by minions.

Some of them are pretty hard to parse.

Apparently, having your mom post one of these minion memes on Facebook is embarrassing.

On Tumblr, the minion-loving Facebook mom has become a direct descendant of "Facebook wine mom," another Tumblr trope.

Entire Tumblr blogs are devoted to mocking the minion meme craze.

There's backlash on Tumblr, with some users saying that the ironic minion memes are just as bad as the earnest ones.

The mom-minion obsession is also active in the offline world.

Teachers are using minion memes in PowerPoint presentations.

Minion DIY projects are popping up, too.

But there is one silver lining. The minion meme obsession might be bringing some moms and kids together...

... But only if the moms aren't into minions.
