THEN & NOW: The cast of 'Jurassic Park' 22 years later

jurassic parkWhen "Jurassic Park" came out in 1993, it was a groundbreaking marvel. It revolutionized CGI while telling a compelling story.

With the next installment, "Jurassic World," out in theaters, now seemed like as good a time as any to see where everybody from the original is today.

The actors and actresses who helped bring the original classic to life have found success long after escaping the clutches of the Velociraptors.

THEN: In perhaps the biggest role of his career, Sam Neill played leading paleontologist Dr. Alan Grant, who gets invited to the dinosaur-filled island home to Jurassic Park.

NOW: Neill reprised his role in "Jurassic Park III" and has appeared in TV series including "The Tudors." He now plays Inspector Chester Campbell in the British gangster drama "Peaky Blinders," which is preparing for its third season.

"Peaky Blinders" airs on BBC Two and can be seen on Netflix.

THEN: Laura Dern played paleobotanist Dr. Ellie Sattler, who accompanies Dr. Grant on his trip to Jurassic Park.

Amy Schumer

Comedian Amy Schumer made one working college student's day this week when she left him a $500 tip on her $49 bill at Peter's Clam Bar on Long Island.

Schumer had an "engaging, animated conversation with her server, Ryan," reports Page Sixduring which the server mentioned that he was "a college student working two jobs to fund his education."

At the end of the meal, Schumer left the 1,020% tip for her waiter.

As for why she's so generous, Schumer explained to E! News on Monday"I waited tables for a long time, so when a waiter is sweet and does a good job I like to leave a really big tip. I can't believe it's a news story but hey everybody should tip a lot, that job is hard."

She continued, "I left a chick $600 on a $100 tab. She was a great bartender in Boston at the Mandarin Oriental. I feel crazy lucky I'm in a position to do that."

For the first time a movie will accept Bitcoin for ticket purchases

Dope1 final

Dope,” the Sundance Film Festival hit that will open in theaters this Friday, will be the first movie to accept digital currency to pay for tickets.

According to The Wrap, beginning Monday, the film’s distributor, Open Road Films, will allow Bitcoin users to buy tickets on MovieTickets.com at more than 900 theaters in the U.S.

The payment platform, GoCoin, will make the process transaction similar to a credit-card purchase.

The film, directed by Rick Famuyiwa, follows Malcolm (Shameik Moore), a geek living in Los Angeles’ Inglewood section who loves 90s hip-hop and has a large knowledge about modern technology.

Malcolm actually uses BitCoin in the movie when he and his friends are in a jam and even tells his mother early on in the film, “I just read that money as we know it is dead. Soon the world is only going to buy and sell products using Bitcoins.”

“Bitcoin is an integral part of ‘Dope’ and we could not be more excited to bring this unique new opportunity to moviegoers,” said Open Road Chief Marketing Officer Jason Cassidy in a statement.

Though you can do more with Bitcoin these day like use it to buy Microsoft apps and products, it’s still a service that's on the fringe, as hacker Alex McGeorge points out in The Wrap story.

“I don’t know that I could convince my grandma to use Bitcoin,” he said. “It seems mostly like a young person’s game.”

And in an age where smaller movies like "Dope" (budgeted in the neighborhood of $1 million) have to compete against Goliaths like “Jurassic World,” that’s exactly who Open Road Films hopes will find this appealing.

Check out the trailer for "Dope" below.

'Jurassic World' has a ton of hit and miss ideas — but it's a wild ride

Jurassic World

“Jurassic World” gives you exactly what you asked for and maybe a little more.

Oh, you want to watch a giant, freakish, unidentified dinosaur eat people? You’ve got it. You want deep nostalgic feelings for one of the best blockbusters of all time? Here, take these night vision goggles.

However, if you were hoping for a neat, streamlined story, you might want to look elsewhere.

“Jurassic World” is the first sequel to “Jurassic Park,” Spielberg’s 1993 classic, that doesn't feel ashamed of the fact that it is a sequel to “Jurassic Park.” In fact, the events of the film completely ignore everything from "The Lost World," and "Jurassic Park III," and act as a direct sequel to the first movie. It is the best sequel in the series so far, but maybe that isn’t saying a lot. Of course, it takes on a lot of the formula of its predecessors, but it actually does have some new things to say.

22 years after the dream of John Hammond was squashed by some renegade Velociraptors, a new dinosaur theme park has opened. This time, it is called Jurassic World, and it's built on the foundation of Jurassic Park on Isla Nublar. If horror movies have taught the world one lesson, its that you should never build your house on an Indian burial ground.

jurassic worldThe park is now run by the uptight Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) who is worried about profits and investors even as attendance for Jurassic World is spiking. While the original park resembled a wildlife reserve, Jurassic World looks more like SeaWorld (especially with all the talk of keeping animals isolated in captivity), complete with a Stegosaurus petting zoo, unbearably long lines, and a Starbucks.

For a giant popcorn movie, “Jurassic World” is surprisingly self-aware and even thoughtful.

Jurassic World Indominus Rex

The story centers mostly around the creation of Indominus Rex, a hybrid dinosaur made up of the DNA of T. rex and several other undisclosed creatures. Indominus is created because, according to Claire, people are bored by regular old dinosaurs now. They have been around in this world long enough that they are just like any other animal. Thus, Jurassic World needs something new and scary, just like the “Jurassic Park” franchise needed a fresh new voice.

Clearly, Claire is wrong. We weren't bored by dinosaurs; we were bored by bad storytelling. And that misunderstanding is probably why a lot of people end up getting eaten.

As a summer blockbuster, “Jurassic World” works well as escapist fun, and the blinding nostalgia of the past certainly helps. It’ll be impossible not to cheer as a few recognizable dinosaurs from the past are reintroduced.

But it doesn’t just reintroduce some old elements for the sake of striking a cheap emotional cord.

jurassic worldIt might only be a minor spoiler to say that there is a scene where the latest kids running from dinosaurs (Nick Robinson and Ty Simpkins) stumble into some recognizable items.

The “Jurassic Park” series is a strange, inconsistent franchise, in that it is always abandoning characters and locations in exchange for more dinosaurs. The biggest strength of “Jurassic World” is its focus on world-building. You really get the sense that this expansive theme park is actually a nightmare in disguise. It is more than enough to kick off the next few “Jurassic” sequels which will definitely happen now.

The dinosaurs of “Jurassic World” feel like the most fully fleshed out characters here. While the trained Velociraptors go against all rules of science, it is a good twist. It feels like “Terminator 2,” in which Arnold Schwarzenegger's Terminator goes from bad guy to good guy.

Jurassic World VelociraptorPerhaps what “Jurassic World” could have used more of is better human characters. Bryce Dallas Howard does her best with a fairly bland character. Meanwhile, a divorce subplot is inexplicably added in and then completely dropped, just one of the many open threads that are never closed in the film.

However, Chris Pratt is great as Owen, the navy seal and friend of the Velociraptors. Pratt plays Owen like a mix of Indiana Jones and Crocodile Dundee. Pratt is not the lead actor here, but that doesn't stop him from stealing every scene he is in. I suspect that had “World” gone into development after “Guardians of the Galaxy” came out, Pratt would have gotten a lot more screen time.

Also great in the necessary role of comic relief is Jake Johnson as Lowery, who seems to be taking Samuel L. Jackson's old job. You might know Johnson as Nick Miller in "New Girl," and also for his role in "Jurassic World" director Colin Trevorrow's first feature "Safety Not Guaranteed."

But sometimes, the character who provides comic relief is never allowed to be more than that.

Lowery comes to work in a Jurassic Park shirt that came from the original park that he found on eBay. His co-worker (Lauren Lapkus) reminds him that this is in poor taste because "people died there."

Jurassic World

This meta moment is crucial.

“Jurassic World” really wants to be the next “Jurassic Park,” but there is a key difference. While “Jurassic Park” played off our love of dinosaurs, “Jurassic World” plays off our love of “Jurassic Park.”

It gets that, and that is why it tries to spoon-feed both the nostalgia and the new stuff that a sequel should provide. Director Colin Trevorrow ("Safety Not Guaranteed") doesn’t have Spielberg’s gift for build-up, but he definitely learned a lot from him. While the blood dripping from the tree was a great visual effect, it would have been nice if they waited a little bit longer to introduce Indominus.

You have to give Trevorrow a lot of credit for taking on “Jurassic World”: This was a film meant to attract a huge audience that could have easily made a lot of people angry if done incorrectly. After all, “Jurassic World” was in development hell for 10 years.

Jake Johnson Jurassic World

In doing so, he made a mainstream movie packed with weird ideas. This is a big dinosaur picture that also decides to bring in the military and condemn SeaWorld. It doesn’t always work, but you admire how much he throws at the wall.

“Jurassic World,” tries to show that sometimes, it's okay not to give in to all of your audience’s demands. When you do that, you end up with a flesh-eating Frankenstein dinosaur.

Overall, one of the points of sequels is to introduce an old story to a new audience. If "Jurassic World" is somebody's first introduction to "Jurassic Park," then it's not a terrible place to start.

The next 'Mass Effect' game is a gorgeous space western

"Mass Effect: Andromeda"

Forget about "Star Wars," and "Star Trek" and, hell, even "Starship Troopers." The greatest space opera of the modern era is a video game trilogy: "Mass Effect." And the company that makes it just announced the next entry in the series – "Mass Effect: Andromeda" is heading to game consoles in "holiday 2016."

In "Mass Effect," you play a ship commander of your choosing. Male? Female? Good? Bad? These are all your choices. The series is all about shaping your own hero (or villain) and interacting with the incredible, dangerous, and intricate world. It's a game about politics, and camaraderie, and deciding when you've heard enough and it's time to make your guns do the talking.

And the next entry is apparently a Western. At least that's what we're taking away from the first teaser trailer, shown Monday afternoon in Los Angeles during the annual E3 video game trade show. Take a look for yourself:

Pretty impressive, no? That's what EA's Bioware studio – the game's creator – is calling a "visual target." In human terms, that means the final product will not look as good as this trailer. But it will look similarly impressive no doubt – the "Mass Effect" series is known for its lush visuals and detailed environments.

Though it'll be at least another year before we get to play "Andromeda," those interested in checking out the original trilogy could do so on the Xbox One using the just-announced backwards compatibility. Simply slip the original trilogy (on Xbox 360) into your Xbox One and you're able to jump right in.

The 'Jurassic World' director had a perfect, simple response to the film's massive box-office dominance this weekend

"Jurassic World" broke several box-office records opening weekend.

Not only did it beat the all-time opening weekend for the month of June at the box office, the fourth installment of the "Jurassic Park" franchise smashed the highest-opening weekend record and had the biggest debut for a movie ever worldwide.

That's incredible if you know "Jurassic World" was an incredibly difficult monster to bring to screen.

The film was sitting in what's referred to as "development" hell for a good decade due to multiple delays and script rewrites.

The estimated $150 million budget was split between Universal Pictures and Legendary.

Reviews were kept under embargo until right before the film's release. (Typically, when that occurs, it's not looking too good for the movie.)

While all of the film's reviews certainly aren't glowing, the film is undeniably a crowd pleaser. (The numbers don't lie.)

The film's director, Colin Trevorrow, was previously known for directing just ONE film — indie darling “Safety Not Guaranteed” starring Aubrey Plaza as a reporter who follows around a man who believes he has built a time machine.

That film had a reported $750,000 budget

Going from that to a potential blockbuster with a budget in the millions can be quite daunting a task.

And you know what?

Trevorrow succeeded.

He more than succeeded.

After the initial box office numbers rolled in Sunday, Trevorrow tweeted out a simple thank you to the fans who made the records possible.

Trevorrow has already said he won't be returning to direct any "Jurassic World" sequel, but he doesn't need to. He's already going out on top, solidifying a place for himself in the record books.

This deleted scene from 'Back to the Future' shows Doc discovering Playboy magazine

Back to the future doc playboy

For fans of the "Back to the Future" franchise, a lost scene from the 1985 film might taint your image of the "genuinely likable" Dr. Emmet "Doc" Brown (Christopher Lloyd).

In the deleted scene, Michael J. Fox's Marty McFly brings the 1955 version of Doc a suitcase filled with Doc's personal belongings from 1985.

Sifting through the suitcase with an incredulous look, Doc is initially amazed to find that people in the '80s have personal hair dyers and still use cotton underwear ("I thought for sure we'd all be wearing disposable paper garments by 1985," he says.)

Back to the future gif 1

Doc then reaches back into the suitcase, opens a Playboy magazine to the centerfold and says, with a wide-eyed stare, "Suddenly the future's looking a whole lot better."

back to the future gif 2

As Huffington Post points out, though, the first issue of Playboy was actually released in 1953, two years before the deleted scene takes place, so it's a bit unlikely that it would have taken Doc another 30 years to discover the magazine.

Nonetheless, it's not hard to imagine why the scene got cut. It's incredibly slow-paced and entirely out of character for the genial genius that Christopher Lloyd plays throughout the film series.

David Letterman kept his assistants after 'Late Show': 'I can no longer operate a telephone'

David Letterman is living a much simpler life after saying goodbye to his late-night show last month. But that doesn't mean that getting accustomed to normal life has been a smooth transition.

The former host gave his first post-retirement interview to his local magazine, Indianapolis Monthly

In the interview, he revealed that two of his assistants have stayed on with him for good reason.

"As it turns out, after all these years of having someone make my calls for me, I can no longer operate a telephone," he revealed to the magazine, after explaining that when he first started doing late-night his manager insisted Letterman get an assistant to answer his phones.

That's not the only thing that takes getting used to for the 68-year-old comedian.

"I don’t know what to do with my hair, either," he said. "But I’ll never wear makeup again, so that’s no problem."

Kim Kardashian lettermanThat said, Letterman is nothing if not self-reflective. He knows what he sounds like and welcomes the ribbing.

"It’s stunning what you find out about yourself when everything you’ve done for 33 years changes," he said. "It’s like ice melting out from under you. I know that regular, responsible people probably hear me whining like this and think, 'Oh, brother.' But I’m trying to rehabilitate myself, so keep me in your thoughts and prayers."

On the bright side, he does seem to keep track of life around town and gets to spend more time with his 11-year-old son, something he had said he wanted to do more of after retirement.

"I love fishing with my son, " he said. "Any kind of trout fishing where you can stand in the river is just delightful. I don’t know what I’m doing, but I can stand in the river. I’m pretty good at that. And isn’t that 90 percent of it?"

The Xbox One just got the largest game library of any platform

$

Xbox 360 on Xbox One

Remember the Xbox 360? Maybe you're still using one! It's arguably the best game console ever made, and almost certainly the best game console that Microsoft's ever made. The Xbox 360 dominated sales and endeared game fans the world over in the last generation of game consoles, easily convincing consumers to "Jump In" to Xbox 360 over Sony's PlayStation 3.

Microsoft announced on Monday morning that the entire Xbox 360 game library is getting support on Xbox One. Put more simply: your old Xbox 360 games are about to start running on your Xbox One. That's a lot of games!

So many games, in fact, that it puts the Xbox One game library in the top position against the likes of Sony's PlayStation 4 (in terms of sheer numbers, anyway). It means games like "Mass Effect" and "Red Dead Redemption" are going to be available on the Xbox One, and that's truly exciting.

It's part of Microsoft's ongoing initiative to make all your games available wherever you want to play them. Should you wish to play your Xbox 360 games on a Windows 10 computer, for instance, that's now possible too – like Xbox One games, your 360 library will be available to stream to your Windows 10-powered PC through the Xbox One.

Is the process a bit convoluted? Perhaps, but it's a lot better than the solution Sony's offering: no backwards compatability whatsoever. If you've got a large PlayStation 3 library that you want to bring over to the PlayStation 4, you're skunked.

And since the Xbox One is running a software-based version of your old game console, all the other bells and whistles will still work: stuff like online multiplayer, or downloadable content, and whatever else. All of that stuff should still work, despite the fact that you're on a totally different game console. Not bad!

There are, of course, some limitations. Microsoft is still in the approval process for a lot of games; the company has to ask game publishers if it's okay to make their games available. And the program isn't available just yet on every Xbox One: if you're part of the console's "Preview Program," you can try out a short list of supported titles starting today. For the rest of us, Microsoft's promising support for "over 100 titles" by this fall; "hundreds more" are promised to be added each month.

Pixar continues to top itself with nearly every new film it makes.

Their latest, "Inside Out," doesn't open until Friday, but it is already sitting at an impressive 100% on Rotten Tomatoes from 35 straight reviews.

inside out rotten tomatoes
Before general audiences were able to see a single frame of it, "Mad Max: Fury Road" also briefly sat at 100% this summer. It was dethroned a few days later, but at 98%, it isn't doing too bad, either.

Hype has been slowly yet strongly building for "Inside Out" ever since footage first debuted. Rave reviews came out when it screened at Cannes back in May. The script brought stars Mindy Kaling and Amy Poehler to tears.

Those who have seen it are comparing it to some of Pixar's best movies. The comparison may come with merit, as it stacks up well next to the Tomatometer of a few of Pixar's best films:

"Toy Story": 100%

"Toy Story 2": 100%

"Toy Story 3": 99%

"Finding Nemo": 99%

"UP": 98%

And here's how "Inside Out" ranks so far against some of this summer's biggest movies:

"Mad Max: Fury Road": 98%

"Avengers: Age of Ultron": 74%

"Jurassic World": 70%

Could "Inside Out" remain on top all summer?

"Inside Out" will be released in theaters Friday, June 19.

The texting version of 'Romeo & Juliet' is everything you ever imagined

Sony has been working on this Playstation game for 8 years — and the trailer is absolutely beautiful

Sony's got a secret up its sleeve for its massively popularly video game console, the PlayStation 4.

It's not an exclusive blockbuster franchise, and it's not a huge price drop: it's a weird cat with feathers. Seriously!

This is "The Last Guardian," a game that Sony's been making in-house in Japan for the past eight years. It was first announced in 2009 during the annual video game industry trade show. Back then, it looked like this:

Not terrible, right? The game was a looker even back then, and the basic staples are all there: a young boy, a bird-like cat creature, and their co-dependent, affectionate relationship. But it isn't just that (admittedly intriguing) stuff that's drawing in fans.

"The Last Guardian" is being created by a beloved creative director named Fumito Ueda. He's responsible for two previous PlayStation games that set the bar for creative, beautiful games: "Ico" and "Shadow of the Colossus." Here's a look at the HD re-release those two games got on the PlayStation 3, back in 2011:

Ueda is the real secret weapon, as his games are memorable, beautiful, and unique. What Sony's shown of "The Last Guardian" promises to be as good or better.

"The Last Guardian" is exclusive to Sony's PlayStation 4, and will (supposedly) arrive some time in 2016. What's another year after eight, right?

Pixar blew through its 'Inside Out' budget to create the biggest effect in the movie

inside out

While Pixar's "Inside Out" may not be the emotional powerhouse that its predecessors "Toy Story" and "Up" were, its animation is unlike anything you've seen before.

That's because the animation studio blew through its budget to do so.

The movie follows 11-year-old Riley, spirited and goofy, as her dad's new job in San Francisco uproots the family from the Midwest. Helping to navigate Riley through this change are her emotions: Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling), and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The anthropomorphic emotions live in Headquarters, the control center of Riley's mind, where they work together to advise her through everyday life.

Even in a technicolor dreamscape like the set of "Inside Out," the emotions manage to shine brightest. If you look at Joy, her clothes, teeth, and hair appear plain, however, her skin appears to shed twinkling particles of energy. She also appears to be glowing.

pixar inside out

When Anger is particularly angry, his skin prickles even more. This technique informs the viewer how the emotions are feeling.

inside out, anger prickle skin

The movie's co-director Ronnie del Carmen ("Up," "Ratatouille") told Business Insider in a recent interview at Pixar's Emeryville, California, campus that this bold style wasn't easy to produce.

"Having a character that is made of little particles that actually move around and lift up and disappear and not be distracting" was a tall order, he said. But, "these characters are uniquely their own. They're not toys, they're not made out of plastic or wood, they're emotions. So that's why they have that effervescent quality to them."

Ralph Egerton, the film's production designer, said the look didn't come cheap either. While the movie's production budget is unknown, similar Pixar films like "Up" and "Brave" cost $175 million and $185 million, respectively. Egerton told Cinemablend's Nick Romano:

"We worked on the idea of her [Joy] being effervescent or sparkly for champagne bubbles, for about eight months. And it got to the point where we couldn’t afford to do it. There was just no way. … None of the other characters had it, because we just couldn’t afford it. When John [Lasseter] saw it on Joy he said, 'That’s great. Put it on all the characters.' You could hear the core technical staff just hitting the ground, the budget falling through the roof. But it was all good. They found a way to make it work."

They certainly made it work. See for yourself when "Inside Out" arrives in theaters June 19.

Here's how Donald Trump's presidential run will affect 'Celebrity Apprentice'

donald trump apprentice

NBC is currently considering its options for "Celebrity Apprentice" on the heels of Donald Trump's announcement on Tuesday that he will be running for president.

Why?

"Once Donald Trump becomes an officially filed candidate, he will likely have to give up his TV show," Fordham University's professor of communication and media studies, Paul Levinson, explained to Business Insider. "In the past, the custom has been for Presidential candidates to leave their television shows when even seriously thinking about a run for office, as Mike Huckabee did on Fox News in January."

He continued, "There's no hard law that requires candidates to do this, however. But NBC would likely insist that he give up 'The Apprentice' once he formally files as a candidate, and possibly even before then."

At the top of the list for the broadcast network is figuring out how to move forward with the show without its figurehead or see how long Trump's run actually lasts. In such case, they can move forward as necessary.

"We will re-evaluate Trump’s role as host of 'Celebrity Apprentice' should it become necessary, as we are committed to this franchise," NBC said in a statement to Business Insider.

NBC renewed "Celebrity Apprentice in February for an eighth season or a 15th season if you count the entire "Apprentice" run. Last season, in which on-air personality Leeza Gibbons triumphed, "Celebrity Apprentice" averaged 7.6 million viewers -- its best run since 2012.

While TMZ reported that NBC will simply put the show on hiatus until Trump becomes available again, that would be highly unusual.

nbc celebrity apprentice ivanka trump donaldDeadline, which reports that Trump's children will replace him on Season 15, seems the more likely scenario for NBC. Ivanka Trump, Donald Trump, Jr., and Eric Trump have alternately served as board members on the show for several seasons.

It's not the ideal scenario as the last time "Apprentice" was hosted by someone other Donald Trump, 2005's "The Apprentice: Martha Stewart," it premiered to just 7.1 million viewers or half Trump's "Apprentice" viewership at the time.

But, the chance that NBC will walk away from the show while Trump campaigns seems unlikely.

This isn't the first time NBC was faced with this dilemma. Trump had at a presidential run in 2012, but ultimately decided against it.

In the new Xbox One UI, Microsoft has merged everything about your friends and what's trending on Xbox Live into a single "Community" tab, which shows you what your friends are playing, popular games right now, and what some of the biggest gamers on Xbox Live are achieving at that very instant.

The most important change, however, is the addition of Cortana thanks to the support of Windows 10. Now, if you say "Hey Cortana," you can issue all of the typical voice commands like "Xbox record that," but you can also do much more, like see if people are online, and invite those people to Xbox Parties.

Cortana also understands complex commands, like if you only want to record the last minute or two of gameplay and immediately share it to your activity feed. Currently, those are all separate steps on Xbox One —they're not hard to do, but they take you out of the gaming experience. Here, you can issue voice commands with Cortana without ever leaving the action.

Here’s why Microsoft is putting an Xbox 360 inside the Xbox One

One of the biggest announcements out of this week's annual video game trade show, E3, came from Microsoft: the company's Xbox One game console is adding backwards compatibility. What does that jargon-centric announcement mean?

All your old Xbox 360 games, on disc and downloaded, are going to work on Xbox One. Pretty big news!

And it took a feat of engineering to make it happen. Microsoft's head of Xbox Phil Spencer took the reins of his current job just over one year ago. Spencer told Business Insider that one of the first things he did after taking the job was to speak with the engineering team about making backwards compatibility a reality.

"There's some real technical challenges to be had. We didn't know that it was gonna work," Spencer said. The issue is one of system architecture: the Xbox 360 was based on "PowerPC" architecture, while the Xbox One is based on "x86." The long and short is that the software underpinnings of each console is dramatically different, making it impossible to run the same games from console to console.

So, how to fix such an issue? Create a fake, software-based version of the Xbox 360 operating system that could be run on the Xbox One. "We are running the Xbox 360 operating system, and you can think of it like a virtual machine, on the Xbox one. The games that you're playing have to be wrapped as an Xbox One game," Spencer said.

Put simply: the Xbox One is getting an Xbox 360, through the magic of software. That's pretty incredible! A team at Microsoft took the physical Xbox 360 and created a virtual version of it through software alone. That's Moore's Law in action.

Beyond adding value to the Xbox One, the move is part of a bigger picture push from Spencer and co. toward making games available across a variety of different platforms – all within the Xbox and Windows ecosystem, of course.

Our long term vision is we want you to be able to play the games that you own where you want to play them, whether it's on an Oculus headset or on your TV. The ubiquitous flow of your content from screen to screen is pretty important to us in the long run.

Backwards compatibility is already available for a limited list of games to Xbox One owners who are in the console's "preview program," and will otherwise light up for everyone else some time this fall with at least 100 titles supported initially. Xbox is promising "hundreds" more titles each month, though don't expect your favorite Kinect games to get supported anytime soon – due to differences in how the new version of Kinect differs from the Xbox 360 version, those games simply won't work on Xbox One.
