The New Batmobile Makes A Mockery Of Batman's No Gun Rule

$

Earlier this week, “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice” director Zack Snyder revealed our first good look at the new Batmobile that Ben Affleck’s Dark Knight will ride around.

The car has received a lot of positive feedback looking like a mix between a few previous iterations of the Batmobile including Christopher Nolan’s Tumbler, the classic shape of the model used in the 1989 film, and the tank version used in Frank Miller’s 1986 “The Dark Knight Returns" series.

Some Batfans may have noticed that the car that violates the Caped Crusader’s  “no guns” rule, which he follows since his parents were gunned down and murdered in an alleyway while he was young.

batmobile batman v superman

Whatever happened to guns being "the weapon of the enemy?"

batman no guns

Of course, when the character first appeared in the comics, this wasn’t always the case. Early versions of Batman show him with a gun, before his character was really established.

Batman Is A Killer, Yo

However, the Caped Crusader is known for his detective skills and ability to fight crime without resulting to bullets. There are countless times we’ve seen versions of the Bat break guns so it’s weird to see his latest vehicle with added artillery.

So what’s the deal? Is Batman going to start killing? Is Zack Snyder giving us a very different version of the Dark Knight?

Not necessarily.

It’s not the first time the Batmobile has some added muscle to his car.

Tim Burton's 1989 batmobile had two machine guns mounted on the vehicle.

And while Burton's version of the film may have seen Batman use guns on both his car and Batwing plane to take down some of Gotham's underworld including the Joker, added machinery to the Dark Knight's vehicle has mostly been for non-lethal use.

The vehicle featured in the Emmy-winning "Batman: The Animated Series" featured a missile rack. The more military-style Tumbler in Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight" trilogy also had a missile launcher and a dual-barreled cannon but weren’t used to harm individuals.

the dark knight rises

The latest design for the Batmobile in the next Batman video game, "Arkham Knight," shows off a slew of guns which are meant to be non-violent: immobilizer missiles, a Vulcan gun, a 60mm cannon, and a riot suppressor gun with rubber bullets.

batman batmobile arkham knight

The guns on the newest Batmobile shouldn't come as a surprise.

When Snyder first announced the new "Batman V Superman" film he introduced it by having "Man of Steel" actor Harry Lennix read a passage from classic Batman graphic novel "The Dark Knight Returns.

The comic shows an older Batman come out of retirement and reprise his role as the Dark Knight. While Snyder has previously said he will not be adapting the four-part graphic novel, it's clear he's drawing some inspiration from the story which features Batman going up against Superman.

The Batmobile featured in the graphic novel was designed as a giant tank that also had missiles, rocket launchers, and 200 RPM tranquilizer-firing machine gunsThe vehicle was introduced as something that could only be damaged from something from another planet (hint, hint: Superman). batmobile the dark knight returns

Again, here's the new Batmobile.batmobile batman v superman

We have yet to see how the guns on the new batmobile will be used. What do you think of the new look?

Cara Delevingne is one of the world's most in-demand models, and her personal style and silly persona is what makes her so likable. This Chanel look was a Cannes Film Festival favorite.

The Best Part Of 'Destiny' Lets You Spontaneously Interact With Gamers From All Over The World

destiny hunter

After playing highly-anticipated video game “Destiny” for nearly a week, it’s clear there’s one standout feature about the futuristic shooter from Activision and Bungie.

It’s not the story line (missions are great with different levels of difficulty to play, but they get a bit repetitive after a while), and while the game is really pretty to look at, it’s not the graphics.

Instead, it’s the public events developer Bungie has added to the game.

Here's How A Public Event Works

public event invite destinyAt any given point while wandering around futuristic versions of the Earth, Moon, Venus, and Mars to hunt down aliens who have taken over the universe, you're given the opportunity to participate in an event mini-game.

These are impossible to miss.

All of a sudden, the sky goes dark and a timer pops up on your screen giving you a time limit to drop whatever you're doing to rush over to a destination to see what's going on.

In this case, we were given 59 seconds.

destiny event gameplay

If you make it to the area in the allotted time, you can choose to play a mini mission which will give you the chance to gain experience points to upgrade your character in the game and/or rewards in the form of money, weapons, or new armor among other things.

destiny eventdestiny join public event

What's cool is that you're not the only person seeing the timer on your screen. Anyone else who is also playing the same map as you is also given the opportunity to join in a timed mission. That means that you can either play with friends, or if you're going it solo, completely random people who could be anywhere in the world.

The More The Merrier

destiny public event gameplayPublic events are meant to be challenging. They can range from protecting a satellite that crashes from the sky to killing enemy targets in various locations.

No matter the task, you'll always be swarmed by a bunch of aliens trying to take you out so you'll want a group of people to come over and join.

And they usually do. For this event on the moon, three others came over and joined me.

What Makes These Events So Great?

destiny event gameplayI've mentioned this from my time playing the Beta preview of the game back in July, but it's this camaraderie of random strangers to achieve the same goal that makes the game so much fun to play. You have each other backs. If one player's in danger, someone else comes in to save you. If a player gets killed, another one can instantly revive you so you can continue on fighting the good fight.

destiny event gameplayOn top of that, it's the complete spontaneity.

While some in-game events are pre-planned by the developers telling players when to log in and play on their consoles, the public events don't occur all of the time making them special in their own right.

The events may introduce two people who will want to play together again at a later time or everyone may just part ways afterward and return to whatever they were doing before. Either way, it provides the opportunity to meet and unite gamers.

While making the game, Bungie has said they are setting out to create a game that brings people together, and these event games are one way they're doing just that.

Pete Davidson"Saturday Night Live" is entering its 40th season this year, but the cast is just getting younger.

The NBC show's official Twitter announced today that 20-year-old comedian Pete Davidson will be joining the show as a featured player.

Davidson, who is currently based in Brooklyn, started doing stand up when he was just 16-years-old and will be the first SNL cast member to be born in the 1990s.

After being discovered by Nick Cannon, he had roles on “Wild ‘N Out” and MTV's “Guy Code,” guest starred on “Brooklyn Nine-Nine," and performed stand-up on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!" in April.

“I just dropped out of college,” Davidson joked on Kimmel. “That’s my big move this year.”

Instead, Davidson's big move will be becoming one of the youngest SNL cast-members ever. "Anthony Michael Hall was 17 and Robert Downey, Jr. was 20 when they joined the show for a single season in 1985," The Wrap reports. "Eddie Murphy was 19 when he began his four season run in 1980."

After SNL fired three cast members last season, Davidson is currently the only new featured player to be added to the roster.

The new season premieres Sept. 27 on NBC with host Chris Pratt.

Here's Why ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Director Gave Out Play-Doh To Cast Members On Set

Director James Gunn had a lot of fun on set with the "Guardians of the Galaxy" crew.

Not only did he play '70s music on set for the cast, it turns out he also rewarded cast members with Play-Doh for doing "an amazing job" on set.

Gunn has been sharing photos from the film's set every day on social media. Last week, Gunn shared a photo of himself with actor Spencer Wilding who played the guard that stole Star-Lord's cassette player. Wilding is seen with a small package of Play-Doh given to him by the director.

james gunn playdoh

"I would keep a pile of little Play-Doh containers onset and if someone did an especially amazing job that day - whether it was an actor, a grip, a stunt man, or a PA (production assistant) - they'd get a canister of Play-Doh," Gunn wrote in a lengthy post. "I probably only gave about 40 containers out over the entire shoot - on an 85 day schedule with a crew of a couple hundred, that isn't much."

Gunn said he decided to choose Play-Doh because he loves its smell.

"Opening a new container and smelling it puts me in a creative, child-like place. And who doesn't love playing with Play-Doh," wrote Gunn.

He added that Spencer received the reward for acting out a scene that got cut from the final film in which he danced through the prison with the Sony Walkman.

The scene will be on the Blu-Ray for the film when it comes out, according to Gunn.

That could be a while since the film is still going strong at theaters. "Guardians of the Galaxy" has become the first film this year to cross $300 million at the domestic box office.

Martha Stewart Disses Gwyneth Paltrow, Sheryl Sandberg, And 'Orange Is The New Black'

martha stewart Martha Stewart didn't hold much back in a new interview with Net-a-Porter’s Porter magazine.

The domestic diva took the opportunity to take a few digs at some famous faces (via PageSix):

On Gwyneth Paltrow, who started lifestyle blog, Goop:

“She just needs to be quiet. She’s a movie star. If she were confident in her acting, she wouldn’t be trying to be Martha Stewart."

Stewart wouldn't comment on actress Blake Lively's new lifestyle blog Preserve, but her senior vice president, Kevin Sharkey, said:

“I don’t get the sense she’s credible. She’s enthusiastic, but she’s not credible.”

Stewart did, however, speak openly about Sheryl Sandberg's "Lean In" philosophy:

“Too much time is spent . . . Isn’t ‘leaning in’ spending a lot of time? . . . I think being entrepreneurial is something women should strive for, rather than working up the corporate ladder.”

The 73-year-old, who served five months in jail in 2004, also panned Taylor Schilling's acting in Netflix's prison dramedy, "Orange Is The New Black."

"They could have done that so much better. That girl” — referring to Taylor Schilling— “is not good enough, the lead actress,” Stewart grumps. “I met the real Piper [Kerman]. She was in prison either the same time or after me, and I talked to her about it.”

“I feel so sorry for all of them in prison. The system lets them down. It’s hideous. And I’m sorry I have not had the time or the real inclination to help, but right now, there is a huge movement against the penal system.”

Tim Cook wasn't counting on the backlash Apple caused when it pushed U2's latest album to every iTunes user last week.

In the final segment of his interview with Charlie Rose, which was clearly recorded before Apple had to save face by creating a page for customers to remove the U2 album, Cook said he thought most people would dig the free tunes.

"I think the vast majority of [customers] are going to love the music," Cook said, according to a transcript of the interview. "Some may not love it. I hope they all do. But it was more about our customers. And so, it felt great to participate in something that's music history, one of the largest album releases ever."

According to Peter Kafka of Re/code, only about 2 million people downloaded the U2 album, a tiny percentage of Apple's 800 million iTunes users.

The final segment of Cook's interview with Rose airs Monday night on PBS. You should be able to find it on Hulu later this week.

CBS decided not to run a planned intro song by Rihanna on last week's "Thursday Night Football" game in the wake of the Ray Rice fiasco, and the artist is not happy about it.

The song, "Run This Town," was supposed to run before every TNF game accompanied by a game-specific voiceover by Don Cheadle. It's basically CBS's answer to "Are You Ready For Some Football?"

Rihanna was the victim of domestic abuse by her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown. CBS Sports chairman Sean McManus told SI's Richard Deitsch that the intro was cut to achieve the "appropriate tone and coverage."

28. Claire Danes: $3 million

27. Amy Poehler: $3.25 million

Season: 7

Reported Salary: $250,000 / episode

Episodes this season: 13

For the show's final season, Poehler gets a reported $50,000-per episode raise, but that's probably because the show was only given a 13-episode order. Unfortunately, this fall show won't return until midseason.

26. Kerry Washington: $3 million

Minecraft Golden City

Microsoft announced on Monday that it was purchasing the company behind the game "Minecraft" for $2.5 billion.

"Minecraft" is a huge, open-world sandbox game, which was released for the PC in 2009. (You can learn more about what it is and how to play here.) Since then, it's been released on other platforms, and as of February 2014, it has sold over 14 million copies on the PC, and 35 million across all the other platforms.

Building in "Minecraft" is easy. You get tools, like shovels and axes, to chop down trees and cut through stone. And without a time limit or a place to go, some players have taken their creative freedom to the next level.

The attention to detail in the Taj Mahal is insane, from the water in the front, to the bushes surrounding the palace.

You can watch a time-lapse video of how they did it here

And, if you're feeling crafty, here's a download so you can build it yourself

It took this player two weeks to build the beautiful Notre Dame Cathedral. He says that he didn't mine for the items himself — he kind of cheated — because otherwise it would've taken him way longer.

'Gotham' Executive Producer Explains How They Decide Which Villains To Put In The Show

$

gotham jada pinkett smithFox's most-anticipated new show of the fall season is definitely Batman prequel series, "Gotham."

The show will serve as an origin story telling not only how the billionaire Bruce Wayne eventually becomes the Dark Knight, but also how his most compelling foes transformed into some of the Caped Crusader's most dangerous villains.

Fox has already revealed a few of the characters from Batman's Rogue's Gallery who will appear on the show: Selina Kyle (the future Catwoman), Edward Nygma (the future Riddler), and Oswald Cobblepot (the future Penguin).

So far, there hasn't been any mention of Batman's biggest future nemesis on the show, the Joker, but that could change.

During a recent media conference call with "Gotham" executive producer and writer Bruno Heller ("The Mentalist") explained there's no limit to the potential villains who could appear on the show in the future.

"The simple answer is: No. We're ready to go with any of them [Batman's villains]," said Heller.

riddler penguin gotham

"We haven't excluded anyone from the mix potentially, but generally what we're looking at is characters where there is some drama or a story behind how they got to be the way they are," added Heller. "We're looking for characters who live in the real world of Gotham as opposed to the even more super real world of Metropolis if you like. It's not about super powers, it's about super will, if you like. We veer towards those characters who are interesting as people, rather than interesting for their particular power or their particular gimmick or their costume."

Heller hinted you may not see every favorite on screen. Some are just simply harder to adapt.

"There are certainly characters that would be very difficult to put on the screen. That crocodile guy is a tough one — although we may go there," Heller explained.

The "crocodile guy" he refers to is Killer Croc, a man born with a condition that caused him to slowly transform into a crocodile. (For those not familiar with Batman mythology it sounds a bit silly.)

Here's how the character appeared in the Emmy winning "Batman: The Animated Series."killer croc batman the animated series

It's also interesting that he dropped the Metropolis. While that could certainly mean nothing, could we be seeing a young Clark Kent wandering around, too?

"Gotham" premieres on Fox Monday, Sept. 22 at 9 p.m.

Watch a trailer for the series below.
