Channing Tatum And Mila Kunis Try To Save The World In 'Jupiter Ascending' Trailer

mila kunis jupiter ascending

A new trailer for summer movie "Jupiter Ascending" is out. The sci-fi flick is the next adventure from the Wachowskis — the creators of "The Matrix" trilogy.

Mila Kunis plays Jupiter a janitor who is secretly royalty, but doesn't know it. Only after she's kidnapped and Caine (Channing Tatum) comes to save her from being hunted does she find out her real identity and gets swept away from Earth.

Here's the official plot synopsis:

"Jupiter Jones (Kunis) was born under a night sky, with signs predicting that she was destined for great things. Now grown, Jupiter dreams of the stars but wakes up to the cold reality of a job cleaning other people’s houses and an endless run of bad breaks. Only when Caine (Tatum), a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, arrives on Earth to track her down does Jupiter begin to glimpse the fate that has been waiting for her all along—her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos."

The trailer is filled with gorgeous backdrops of a futuristic planet. It definitely looks different from any other sci-fi film we've seen in a while.

"Jupiter Ascending" will be released July 18.

L’Wren Scott Leaves Entire $9 Million Estate To Mick Jagger, Mysteriously Leaves Out Family

L'Wren Scott Mick Jagger

Just a day after L'Wren Scott was laid to rest in Los Angeles, the mystery behind her death deepens.

While many reports have speculated the fashion designer took her life due to mounting financial problems with her high-end clothing company, Scott's will reveals she still had a $9 million fortune.

PageSix uncovered Scott's will, which was last updated in Beverly Hills on May 23, 2013, and states that everything be left to Mick Jagger, whom she had been dating since 2001.

“I give all my jewelry, clothing, household furniture and furnishings, personal automobiles and other tangible articles of a personal nature … to Michael Philip Jagger,” Scott’s will says, according to court papers reviewed by The Post Wednesday.

Scott, who was adopted by a Utah family as a baby, clearly stated that her family members receive nothing. While she hadn't spoken to her older sister in six years, Scott's older brother was interestingly also cut out of the will despite being named co-head of her company just last year.

“Except if otherwise provided in this will, I have intentionally omitted to provide herein for any of my heirs living at the date of my death,” stated the designer, whose parents are both deceased.

In New York state, legal heirs include spouses and living relatives.

Despite the snub, Scott's family spoke at her funeral and her ashes were divided between both her relatives and Mick Jagger.

“She was cremated and I have some of her ashes,” said her brother, Randall Bambrough. “Some of those ashes, they will be buried near our parents here in Utah. And there will be a ceremony, date to be determined, in Utah for all family members who will have an opportunity to see their friends and others.”

As of yesterday, Bambrough wasn't aware of the will.

“I haven’t heard anything at all about a will, other than there’s supposedly one out there,” Bambrough told The Daily News.

Here's What's At Stake In Gwyneth Paltrow And Chris Martin's Multimillion-Dollar Divorce

$

Gwyneth Paltrow Chris Martin

Gwyneth Paltrow, 41, and Chris Martin, 37, announced their split Tuesday on her website, Goop, in a civilized blog post titled "Conscious Uncoupling."

The couple have two children.

After 10 years, the Oscar-winning actress and Coldplay frontman have amassed quite an empire  but what exactly is at stake if the two proceed with the divorce?

E! Online estimates that Paltrow and Martin are worth $140 million each, making their combined fortune a whopping $280 million. But reports of their wealth vary widely, with Britain's Sunday Times pegging their combined net worth at nearly $120 million in 2012.

In 2013, Paltrow and Martin both appeared on Forbes magazine's list of the 100 highest-earning celebrities. Paltrow landed at No. 71 with $10 million and Coldplay came in at No. 14 with $64 million.

So where's all the dough coming from? Let's break it down.

Chris Martin

Chris Martin, The Voice"Chris Martin is clearly the bigger earner in the relationship," Dorothy Pomerantz, L.A. bureau chief for Forbes, told E! News"With musicians like Coldplay it depends on touring, which is where they make the big money. So every year these guys go out on tour, they will sell out giant arenas and will make tons of money. It doesn't really come from the album sales. It comes from the touring."

Indeed, Martin has admitted that Coldplay owns only a piece of its publishing rights, while the band's Universal Music label owns its catalogue.

Martin discussed the matter with Howard Stern in a 2011 interview"No, we don't own hardly any of it … You'll have to talk to my manager, but we don't own it for at least 20 years or something.

"We own quite a lot of the publishing but we don't own much of the recording," he said. "That's why people always think bands are a lot richer than they are because they never remember that bit."

Martin doesn't have to worry, though. He told Stern that the four members split their earnings "20-20-20-40," with the largest share going to him as the lead singer-songwriter.

That breakdown fares well for Martin, whose band sold more than 60 million albums worldwide and whose last 2012 "Mylo Xyloto" concert tour grossed more than $170 million, according to The New York Times.

Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth PaltrowAccording to Bloomberg Businessweek, Paltrow's films have grossed more than $3.9 billion worldwide. "Iron Man" accounts for $1.2 billion of that.

"When you are in a movie like 'Iron Man,' even if you are not the star and it makes so much money you get some of that back end," says Forbes' Dorothy Pomerantz. "She is not getting Robert Downey Jr. money but she gets a taste of it. She gets money from Goop, from her cookbooks, and from her TV work ... She has money coming from several different sources now, because she really is a brand and when you put it all together, it is around $10 million."

In addition to Paltrow's 150,000 Goop subscribers and her newest cookbook, 2013's "It's All Good," debuting at No. 1 on The New York Times best-seller list, the 41-year-old has lucrative endorsement deals.

People magazine reported that Paltrow's portfolio includes Max Factor's Modern Icon campaign ($4.9 million), Boss perfume ($1.9 million), and Estée Lauder ($8.2 million).

In 2008, the year she became a face of Estée Lauder and the first "Iron Man" came out, Forbes estimated she made $25 million.

Real Estate:

gwyneth paltrow buys los angeles $10.45 million home featured in veranda magazineThe couple's real-estate portfolio has five properties around the world — a "home they bought in 2012 in L.A.'s Brentwood neighborhood, a Manhattan apartment, a Hamptons estate and a mansion in London's upscale Belsize Park neighborhood, which they bought from Kate Winslet in 2004. Additionally, they purchased the property next door and combined the two into a single large estate," according to People.

Earlier this month, the Los Angeles Times said the couple paid $14 million for a Malibu home, which will now reportedly be used as Martin's "bachelor pad."

The couple likely have a prenuptial agreement, but if not, California  the state in which they were married  is a community property state, meaning marital property is divided in half in the event of a divorce.

Here's How Much It Would Actually Cost To Be Captain America

$

Captain America, money

Being Captain America isn't easy, or apparently cheap.

According to Movieclips, the real-life cost of being the Star-Spangled Man would be somewhere around $54,609,201.60.

When adjusting variable costs for inflation  considering that Cap was frozen for 70 years  the number grows to $54,977,922.05.

That's the total for super-serum, three various red-white-and blue outfits, and his 12 lbs. vibranium shield — which at 10 grand a gram, comes out to $54,431,100 alone.

Here are the various prices that make up America's first Avenger:

The project that created Captain America (Project: Rebirth) cost $30,000 in the '40s when counting in lab equipment, serum, technicians, and research.Captain America, Project Rebith

Captain America's uniform (belts, boots, helmet, etc.) costs around $1,000, but since there's three of them the price is $3,720.

Captain America Outfit

The bike that Cap is driving around in "Captain America: The Winter Solider" is the 2014 Harley-Davidson 750 which has a retail price of $7,500.

Captain America Harley

Captain America's super-solider metabolism is four times the average human meaning he eats four times as much. That would make Steve Rogers' annual grocery bill $25,772.

Captain America, food

All those punching bags Cap destroys in "The Avengers": $600

Captain America, punching bags

However, Captain America makes some money also. If he bought a typical amount of war bonds back during World War II, he would have $3,600. Also his S.H.I.E.L.D. salary is most likely around $100,000 a year.

A Microbrewery Just Made A 'Walking Dead'-Inspired Beer With Real Brains

Dock Street Walker Beer

The folks at Philadelphia's Dock Street Brewing Co. are such big fans of AMC's "The Walking Dead" they decided to brew a radical new beer with smoked goat brains in honor of the zombie show.

In addition to this unusual ingredient, the new brew, an American Pale Stout they're calling Dock Street Walker, will also incorporate wheat, oats, flaked barley, and organic cranberries, and will clock in at 7.2% ABV.

According to the brewery's press release, they used goat brains to infuse a subtle, smoky flavor into the beer while the cranberries provide tartness and a pale redness reminiscent of blood.

Dock Street wouldn't be the first brewery to use disturbing ingredients in a beer. In 2012 Denver’s Wynkoop Brewing Company brewed a Rocky Mountain Oyster Stout using, you guessed it, Rocky Mountain oysters. More and more craft and microbreweries are pushing the envelope when it comes to creating new brews partly because they can, and partly because craft beer drinkers are developing ever more adventurous palates.

Naturally, Dock Street plans to release of Dock Street Walker at the brewery on March 30 — during their screening of "The Walking Dead" season finale.

Billionaire James Packer And Producer Brett Ratner Are Betting On Hollywood Being 'So Similar' To The Casino Business

Brett Ratner Jackie Chan Chris Tucker

After the massive success of "Gravity," director/producer Brett Ratner will rake in $40 million from the film thanks to his new production company, RatPac Entertainment, with Australian billionaire James Packer.

In September, Ratner  who directed the "Rush Hour" franchise  closed a $450 million financing deal with Warner Bros. to fund up to 75 upcoming films. "Gravity” was the first title covered by the new, four-year partnership.

While Ratner remains behind-the-scenes in the new deal and won't have any creative control, it's a move he has said he "fully supports."

For Australian billionaire James Packer  a former polo player who inherited a $5 billion fortune when his father, businessman Kerry Packer, died in 2005  the new venture into Hollywood isn't that different from his casino business.

“The casino business and the movie business are so similar,” Ratner tells Forbes in a new interview. “What you’re selling is an experience. You’re selling adrenaline.”

James Packer ForbesWhile Packer’s worldwide casino business remains his primary focus  and the reason his fortune is up by nearly $2 billion in two years (in no small part thanks to booming business in Macau— RatPac, formed in December 2012, is "not just a rich man’s dabble in a glamorous industry," as Forbes states.

Packer's Melco Crown company already dabbles in the entertainment industry, holding "a 60% stake in a third Macau casino project, the $2 billion Studio City on the Cotai Strip, due to open in mid-2015 with a movies theme (and with obvious potential tie-ins to Packer and Brett Ratner’s RatPac Entertainment)," reports Forbes.

After the success of "Gravity," RatPac is now expanding into television, book publishing, and documentaries — specifically in China, India, and other parts of Asia.

“The thing that was at the center of our thinking all along is the rise of China,” says Packer, who is reportedly dating model Miranda Kerr. “I think ten years from now a bunch of studios will say, ‘Why didn’t we do more in China?’”

Next up, RatPac will publish the new book from author Ben Mezrich, who also wrote "Bringing Down the House" and "The Accidental Billionaires" on the founding of Facebook.

While RatPac's early success has hardly been accidental, Ratner does say their financing of films could top $1 billion, if things continue to go well.

Here's The Story About Noah And The Ark That They Don't Teach Children In Sunday School

$
0
0

noah ark animals

Noah is arguably the first hero to those who observe Judeo-Christian traditions.

When the descendants of Adam and Eve slid down that slippery slope of wickedness, God found favor in Noah.

From Genesis, chapter six (New Revised Standard Version):

5 The Lord saw that the wickedness of humankind was great in the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of their hearts was only evil continually. 6And the Lord was sorry that he had made humankind on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. 7So the Lord said, ‘I will blot out from the earth the human beings I have created—people together with animals and creeping things and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.’ 8But Noah found favour in the sight of the Lord.

Most people know what happened next. God told Noah that he planned to destroy everyone on earth. He then gave Noah instructions on how to build an ark, told him to fill it with his family and a pair of every animal on the planet, and then made it rain for 40 days and 40 nights.

"And the waters swelled for one hundred fifty days ... At the end of one hundred fifty days the waters had abated; and in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat."

Everyone and everything come out of the ark, Noah builds an alter and sacrifices some animals, and God makes a rainbow.

Here's Where It Gets Weird

From Genesis, chapter nine:

20 Noah, a man of the soil, was the first to plant a vineyard. 21He drank some of the wine and became drunk, and he lay uncovered in his tent.

This is a detail that most children from Christian homes won't remember from Sunday school.

It gets weirder.

22And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brothers outside. 23Then Shem and Japheth took a garment, laid it on both their shoulders, and walked backwards and covered the nakedness of their father; their faces were turned away, and they did not see their father’s nakedness. 24When Noah awoke from his wine and knew what his youngest son had done to him, 25he said,
‘Cursed be Canaan;
lowest of slaves shall he be to his brothers.’
26He also said,
‘Blessed by the Lord my God be Shem;
and let Canaan be his slave.
27 May God make space for* Japheth,
   and let him live in the tents of Shem;
and let Canaan be his slave.’

This is truly one of the oddest stories in the Bible. There are obviously a lot of details that have been excluded.

The New Oxford Annotated Bible offers some annotations based on hundreds of years of scholarly research.

22-23: Some have speculated that Ham had sex with his father, since nakedness refers to incestuous behavior in Lev. 20.17. Nevertheless, a more common expression for sexual intercourse in Leviticus is "uncover nakedness" (e.g., 18.6, 20.18) or "lie with" (e.g., 20.11-12). Moreover, the description of Ham's brothers' contrasting behavior in v. 23 (their faces were turned away) makes clear that the problem with Ham's behavior was that he did not look away.

The annotations note that passing out naked was not uncommon in the old days.

In the ancient Near East, sons were expected to protect the honor of their father through caring for him when he was drunk (with no negative judgment being attached to getting drunk). Ham here does the opposite, both looking upon his father naked and telling his brothers about it. Such behavior is an example of the same kind of breakdown of family relationships that was seen in ch 3 (see 3.8-13, 16-19n.) and ch 4 (see 4.1-15n.).

Volumes have been written about this. But we'll leave it at that.

Anyway, Darren Aronofsky's "Noah" opens today.

Many are calling for the cancellation of "The Colbert Report" after a tweet mocking Asian stereotypes was posted Thursday from the @ColbertReport account to its over 1 million followers.

The tweet in question  which has since been deleted  is below:

Stephen Colbert tweet

The tweet was in reference to a bit from Colbert’s Comedy Central show on Wednesday in which he mocked the Washington Redskins’ latest attempt at PR damage control in partnering with a charity for Native Americans.

Since the post, the hashtag #CancelColbert has gone viral.

Some were outraged:

Others argued that people just don't understand Colbert's character or the show's tone:

Late last night, Colbert jokingly tried to ease the online tensions over the tweet he didn't write. And the show was forced to do damage control:

“I do the show in character — and he’s an idiot,” Colbert once said during an interview. “He’s willfully ignorant of everything we’re going to talk about. Disabuse me of my ignorance. Don’t let me put words in your mouth.”

University Of Iowa Rejects 'Girls' Request To Film On Campus Despite Major Story Line

Here's how we left Lena Dunham's "Hannah Horvath" character in the season 3 finale of HBO's "Girls."

Girls lena dunham hannah horvath holding iowa acceptance letter

In the final scene, we saw Hannah smiling as she clutched her acceptance letter to the prestigious MFA program at the University of Iowa.

But it looks like "Girls" creator Lena Dunham may need to re-write next season's script, as UI just denied her request to film on-campus.

“After reviewing the script, I felt the storyline placed the city and university in an unfavorable light, and considering the potential for disruption, I made the decision to deny the request,” the University’s Vice President of Strategic Communication, Joe Brennan, told the Iowa City Press-Citizen. “I won’t share details as I don’t think it fair to reveal the plot in advance. I understand this is a popular show, but it’s my job to safeguard the reputation of the university.”

Added UI spokesman Tom Moore, "While we are pleased that the Iowa Writers' Workshop is receiving national attention and that our graduate is doing well in her career, our general practice is to not allow filming, due to potential disruption to campus."

The rejection is a blow to “Girls” staff writer Sarah Heyward, who is herself an alumna of the esteemed writing program.

But perhaps the "Girls" crew should have looped in the University from the get-go, as the Writers' Workshop director, Samantha Chang, revealed, ”It was a complete surprise to me that we would be part of the season cliffhanger.”

“Since we’re just now recruiting our new students for next fall, I am in the process of talking with a few of them about the issue of leaving New York (or San Francisco, or Seattle) and moving to the Midwest for two years,” she said. “When I heard that Hannah had been accepted to the program, I experienced a powerful imaginative flash into the head of this new prospective student with relocation issues.”

HOUSE OF THE DAY: Inside The $65 Million Bel-Air Estate Once Owned By Kenny Rogers

kenny rogers house of the day

A gorgeous Bel-Air estate formerly owned by country singer Kenny Rogers is on sale for $65 million.

The hillside mansion is technically still under construction after being enlarged from 9,359 square feet to a whopping 24,000 square feet, listing agent Mia Trudeau of Hilton & Hyland told the Wall Street Journal. The home is virtually complete, save for the new guest wing, which will add another two bedrooms and three bathrooms to the home.

Currently, the mansion has nine bedrooms and 14 bathrooms with a ballroom, a saltwater pool, a 12-seat home theater, and even a refrigerated wine room. With two acres of property, the estate also has a tennis court, gym with a sauna, and an outdoor glass elevator next to the pool.

Rogers purchased the home in the ‘70s, according to the WSJ. He added two lion statues to the main gate and renamed the property “Liongate.”

The current sellers of the home are a mystery, but Trudeau told the WSJ that “they are European and purchased the home for personal use,” adding that they put the mansion up for sale because they hadn’t spent enough time in Los Angeles.

The property is currently listed with Hilton & Hyland.

This is Liongate Estate, the 24,000-square-foot property that is currently on sale for $65 million. The home has a tennis court, saltwater swimming pool, and outdoor glass elevator.

They did this by looking at 150 brands' Facebook audiences, as well as the audiences of more than 800 broadcast and cable television shows.

Through a proprietary algorithm, 4C was able to determine which kinds of brands any given TV show's viewers were most likely to engage with on Facebook.

In what probably isn't much of a surprise, 4C found that people sports programming accounted for five of the 20 shows with audiences most likely to engage with alcohol brands.

CEO Of Public Company Grabs His Crotch, Gives The Middle Finger While Exiting Private Jet

Robert Sillerman is the 64-year-old CEO of SFX Entertainment, the newly public company that produces popular electronic dance music [EDM] festivals like Tomorrowland, Rock in Rio, and Electric Zoo.

But Sillerman acted anything but professional Tuesday when he landed in Miami for the Ultra music festival by flipping the bird and grabbing his crotch as he descended from a private jet. (Via Buzzfeed)

The images and video instantly went viral.

Buzzfeed graciously giffed one of the highlights.

Robert Sillerman GIF crotch grab

While some EDM fans thought it was funny, no one was laughing during SFX's earnings call on Thursday.

Doug Mitchelson, an analyst at Deutsche Bank, asked Sillerman on the call: “And lastly, Bob, I’m not even sort of sure how to ask this question…we understand that you’re something of a non-traditional CEO, but any comment you want to make on the gestures you were making? Was that to a specific person or to everybody as you came out of the plane yesterday? We’re just trying to make sure that you’re still sane.”

“Um, well — thank you for referring to me as a non-traditional CEO," Sillerman began, explaining: "That was a result of an internal, the culmination of an internal conversation and joke within the company, and while I certainly wasn’t crazy about the fact that it was tweeted out, it’s had a very interesting reaction from the uh, music community down here, (which) has fundamentally said, 'F--- yeah, we get it.'”

He continued: “But no, I was not trying to imitate Michael Jackson or Stephen Colbert talking to somebody about how much better the hot dogs were in New York. That was an internal thing. It’s fairly indicative, I think, of the way internally that we enjoy ourselves, and we’re willing to push the envelope, I guess is the best way to say it.”

It was at this point that SFX's shares started to fall, decreasing up to 20% to $5.70. They rose again by Thursday afternoon 11% to $6.81, reports Billboard.

For the record, Sillerman doesn't usually look quite as ridiculous while working his day job.

Don't Worry Oculus Fans, Facebook Is Assembling A Dream Team To Make Awesome Video Games (FB)

$

michael abrash

If you're still trying to get your head wrapped around Facebook's $2 billion acquisition of Oculus VR, here's another nugget to consider: Facebook just hired Michael Abrash, the man who was leading Valve's virtual reality effort. He's become the chief scientist at Oculus.

When Facebook announced the Oculus acquisition earlier this week, people wondered if Oculus could keep key people, particularly John Carmack, who is royalty in the gaming industry. Carmack created the super popular games Doom and Quake.

With the addition of Abrash, it's clear that people aren't bailing from Facebook. Quite the opposite. Oculus is assembling a "dream team" of virtual reality experts, as "aresant" on Hacker News put it:

"Ok, I am over being mad at Facebook. This is huge. Abrash has been the front facing member of Valve's efforts. ...  This is going to be like watching the 'Dream Team' come together in one place, and I'm guessing that this ends all speculation about whether or not Carmack sticks around under FB considering the collaborative history between these two."

Abrash and Carmack do have a long history as friends and colleagues. Carmack convinced Abrash to leave his job at Microsoft to work on Quake, back when Abrash was working on Microsoft's flagship product, Windows, Abrash says in a blog post.

In that same post, Abrash also writes why it's so great that Facebook bought Oculus:

... A lot of what it will take to make VR great is well understood at this point, so it's engineering, not research ... For example, there are half a dozen things that could be done to display panels that would make them better for VR ... that's not only expensive, it also requires time and patience – fully tapping the potential of VR will take decades.

... VR wouldn't become truly great until some company stepped up and invested the considerable capital to build the right hardware ...

That worry is now gone. Facebook's acquisition of Oculus means that VR is going to happen in all its glory."

And then Abrash envisions virtual reality becoming the new way everyone interacts with each other through their computers. He writes:

"... we're working on technology that will change not just computer gaming, but potentially how all of us interact with computers, information, and each other every day. I think it's going to be the biggest game-changer I've ever seen."

This echos what Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said when he explained why Facebook bought Oculus VR, that "This is really a new communication platform."

Gwyneth Paltrow

For once, perfectionist Gwyneth Paltrow had the public's sympathy this week when she announced that she and her Coldplay frontman-husband, Chris Martin, were separating after ten years and two children together.

But any twinge of compassion for the Oscar-winning actress-turned-GOOP lifestyle guru quickly vanished after the 41-year-old said it was harder for her to parent than for regular working moms who go into an office every day.

“It’s much harder for me,” Paltrow said in an E! News interview. "I think it’s different when you have an office job, because it’s routine and you can do all the stuff in the morning and then you come home in the evening. When you’re shooting a movie, they’re like, ‘We need you to go to Wisconsin for two weeks,’ and then you work 14 hours a day and that part of it is very difficult.”

“I think to have a regular job and be a mom is not as, of course there are challenges, but it’s not like being on set," she continued.

As any human can imagine, parents were outraged at the "Iron Man" actress' comments.

One particular working mom, Mackenzie Dawson, took such offense that she penned a sarcastic open letter to the multi-millionaire mom.

“'Thank God I don’t make millions filming one movie per year,' is what I say to myself pretty much every morning as I wait on a windy Metro-North platform, about to begin my 45-minute commute into the city," Dawson wrote in a piece for The New York Post.

Dawson, who recently had a baby boy, jokes that she and her friends are "always gabbing about how easy it is to balance work and home life. Whenever I meet with them at one of our weekly get-togethers — a breeze to schedule, because reliable baby sitters often roam my neighborhood in packs, holding up signs peddling their services — we have a competition to see who has it easier."

"Is it the female breadwinners who work around the clock to make sure their mortgages get paid, lying awake at night, wracked with anxiety over the idea of losing their jobs?" she questions. "Or is it the mothers who get mommy-tracked and denied promotions?"

Dawson continues to discuss how "easy" it is to find affordable child care, allowing her to come home from work "full of energy and ready to cook dinner using one of the recipes you post on your lifestyle Web site."

"So, Gwyneth, you’ve figured out the secret of working parents everywhere," she concludes. "Livin’ la vida desk job is a breeze compared to the 14-hour days of a film set. Fourteen hours? Who in New York — especially those in the finance, law and tech professions — could possibly work 14 whole hours?"

Reviews For Arnold Schwarzenegger's New Movie 'Sabotage' Are Terrible

arnold schwarzenegger sabotage

Arnold Schwarzenegger has a new movie out this weekend called "Sabotage" where he leads a DEA task force to take down a drug cartel.

According to reviews, the movie isn't sounding like a must-see.

The Open Road Films' release is currently sitting at 21% on film review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.

Predictions have "Sabotage" bombing with $7-8 million this weekend. The budget is estimated at $35 million.

Here are a few samples of what critics are saying:

Film.com:

“The film’s script is so bankrupt of ideas and lacking in common sense that I couldn’t even tell you if the movie wants us to hate them or not.”

RogerEbert.com:

"A story that focuses on DEA agents who are on the edge and which is so preposterous that no sane person could possibly celebrate it as anything other than inadvertent comedy. This could well be the single most implausible film playing at your multiplex this weekend and bear in mind, 'Mr. Peabody & Sherman' is still in release."

USA Today:

"Bloody, banal and boasting a surprisingly able clutch of stars who will soon be deleting this from their résumés, Sabotage is a 109-minute cadaver count. It's torture porn for the action set with no discernible message other than, perhaps, that friends who want to hack you and stuff your corpse in a fridge really aren't your friends."

NYT:

“Sabotage” isn’t any good, even if its jagged, jolting visual excesses and frenzied energy keep you awake, gasping and guffawing by turns. It does have one genuine surprise: the dependably watchable Olivia Williams, who shows up as Caroline, a detective who wears suits and no visible makeup and holds her ground amid the carnage and chaos as the movie’s only believably human being."

From the minority of good reviews:

NY Daily News

“With its overreliance on mood and underdeveloped plot, “Sabotage” is far too muddled to hold up to those films [“Hostel,” “Training Day,” and “End of Watch”]. But it does have a weird, boldly ugly edge that makes for unexpectedly compelling viewing.”

Film School Rejects:

“If your sole requirement for a “good” Schwarzenegger film is bullets, blood, and cigar smoke then head out to the theater now as this is the movie for you. If you require even a little bit more than that though I suggest waiting three months for the home video.”

Vulture

“It’s not exactly an original idea, but for part of its running time, Sabotage distinguishes itself by staying focused on the DEA team’s banter and chemistry rather than the action.”

If you’re heading to theaters this weekend, we’d stick with “Noah” or the wide release of Wes Anderson’s “The Grand Budapest Hotel.”
