Striking 'Fashion Police' Writers Release Video Bashing Joan Rivers

Joan Rivers

Fashion critic and comedian Joan Rivers has doled out the harshest of criticisms from her pedestal on the red carpet and behind the desk of her E! Network show, "Fashion Police."

She can dish it, but can she take it?

"Fashion Police" writers released a 3-minute video message, titled "Dear Joan: Can We Talk?", bashing her decision not to support their battle to join the Writers Guild.

Writers filed a claim with state labor officials in April, citing unfair pay and unpaid overtime, and have been on strike since. If upheld, the claim could grant them more than $1 million in back wages.

Around the same time, the writers expressed an interest in organizing and joining The Writers Guild of America West, which would assist them in bargaining for health insurance, a pension plan, and fair pay consistent with industry standards.

fashion police joan rivers strikeThe network is allegedly stalling by demanding a National Labor Relations Board election be held first.

When the writers sat Rivers down to discuss, she shut them out immediately.

"She was completely not receptive to it, none of the producers were receptive to it," writer Bryan Cook said. "We were essentially told if we tried to unionize, we would lose our jobs."

The network issued this statement in response:

"Joan Rivers has been and remains emphatically supportive of the writers. Her company does not produce Fashion Police nor set the compensation of E! Networks Productions’ writers. The personal attacks on Joan are grossly unfair and inaccurate."

One writer, the only female to appear in the video, got choked up talking about her disappointment in her comedic hero.

"It was so upsetting to me to find out that this person who had meant so much to me, I meant so little to her," Eliza Skinner said.

Vogue's Anna Wintour Wants Hillary Clinton To Run For President In 2016

Anna WintourLITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — It's not quite "Project Pantsuit," but it's not far off.

Hillary Rodham Clinton on Monday honored fashion designer Oscar de la Renta, the man responsible for a teal silk pantsuit she wore when she was sworn in as a senator.

The two previously shared the stage last month in New York when Clinton, a self-professed pantsuit aficionado, presented de la Renta with the Council of Fashion Designers of America's highest honor and joked about a fictional "Project Runway" spinoff, "Project Pantsuit."

They met again Monday evening in Little Rock, where some of de la Renta's work — including the teal pantsuit — is on display at the William J. Clinton Presidential Center.

Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, thanked de la Renta for his work and his friendship as they feted him at a temporary exhibit called "Oscar de la Renta: American Icon," which opened in May and runs through Dec. 1.

"I was not asked to open this relatively brief ceremony because I am the most expert person on this stage in the field of high fashion," the former president said in the company of de la Renta and Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour.

Wintour, meanwhile, praised de la Renta and his work with first ladies and Clinton for her work over the years, most recently as secretary of state.

"She always looked entirely appropriate wherever she was and nearly always in Oscar," Wintour said.

Wintour drew applause from the crowd when she mentioned the former first lady as a potential presidential candidate in 2016.

"It's anyone's guess what the next chapter will be for this extraordinary woman," Wintour said. "I can only hope that all of you here in Little Rock will be celebrating her come November 2016."

Clinton didn't discuss her future or poke fun at her penchant for pantsuits on Monday.

Instead, she thanked de la Renta, whom she has called a "dear friend."

"Oscar has really treated first ladies such as myself and Nancy Reagan and Laura Bush with such great support," she said. "And sometimes, as Chelsea knows, he's even dressed our daughters."

That was evidenced at the de la Renta exhibit, where Clinton's daughter's garb was displayed near her teal pantsuit.

That pantsuit, which hardly needs a placard identifying who wore it, stands near a red, cashmere outfit Laura Bush wore in 2008 and a beige ensemble Nancy Reagan donned a decade earlier.

Visitors also see reproductions of a couple of de la Renta dresses Clinton has worn over the years, but the pantsuit stands out.

The signage surrounding her pantsuit, much like her new Twitter biography, plays on the prominent pantsuits she's worn.

Clinton calls herself a "pantsuit aficionado" on Twitter. However, the wording on a placard at the exhibit — much like the exhibit itself — is a bit more highbrow.

"Pantsuits designed by Oscar de la Renta are perhaps Hillary Clinton's most famous sartorial statement," a sign says.

Across the exhibit, flowers decorate a handful of the designer's evening gowns. Another array of dresses pay homage to the Dominican-born designer's time in Spain. A mannequin wearing a black-and-white polka dot mermaid dress pauses as if frozen while dancing flamenco, her arms snaking through the air.

"What I saw in Spain colored the way I have looked at clothes ever since," de la Renta says in a quote displayed on the wall.

The former first ladies' outfits don't look quite like they walked off the streets of Seville, but they're still clearly de la Renta — a designer who has built relationships with a number of women in the White House.

"Oscar has been a dear friend to me, and many other first ladies. His designs are truly beautiful and exemplify American style," Laura Bush said in a quote near the red suit she wore five years ago for the White House Holiday Press Preview.

While some of the film may have appeared to be shot in location in New York, the only minimal filming took place in Sydney, Australia.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck Is Leaving 'The View' And Heading To Fox News

Elisabeth Hasselbeck

Fox News announced Tuesday evening that it would shake up both its morning and afternoon lineups, adding "The View" co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck to co-host "Fox & Friends."

Hasselbeck will replace current "Fox & Friends" co-host Gretchen Carlson, who will anchor a one-hour daytime program beginning this fall.

"Elisabeth’s warm and engaging personality made her a star on 'The View,'" Fox News chairman and CEO Roger Ailes said in a statement.

"She has proveto be an excellent conversationalist, and I am certain she will make a great addition to our already successful morning franchise."

Hasselbeck, who has co-anchored "The View" since 2003, said in a statement that it was an "honor" to move to Fox News.

Hasselbeck has been the lone conservative voice on "The View" for some time, and she often clashed with her more liberal co-hosts. One of them, Barbara Walters, wished Hasselbeck well in a statement released by Fox.

"We have had 10 wonderful years with Elisabeth and she will now be swimming in new waters," she said. "We will miss her and wish her everything good."

In a statement, ABC added, "She stood behind her political views even if they were not the most popular opinions at the table, never shying away from voicing a difficult question."

It wasn't immediately clear where Carlson would fit in the daytime schedule. Last week, however, the network announced that former daytime host Megyn Kelly would move to a primetime slot when she returns from maternity leave

Carlson said she was "excited" to advance her career.

Why The Rolling Stones Keep Touring Despite Being Ancient Zillionaires

$
0
0

mick jagger rolling stonesThe Rolling Stones play the last the last of their current tour — and possibly their career — next week in London's Hyde Park.

Their last few shows England shows have drawn rave reviews, and the returns on their earlier shows have been strong.

But others have called it "the night of the living dead" tour, for reasons that are perhaps evident.

And the Rolling Stones are already of the wealthiest bands in the world. Their last tour grossed more than half a billion dollars. Mick Jagger is said to be worth more than $300 million, Keith Richards just a bit less.

So why do these guys keep going on tour?

There are three reasons.

First, digitized music is now virtually worthless. Prof. Peter Tschmuck, a professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna who runs a blog about the economics of the music business, told me the return on investment from selling a digital copy of a song is 12% compared with about 36% for CDs — and that's before that revenue is carved up to various title holders.

Professor Jeff Dorenfeld, a lecturer on music business at Berklee College, told us songs have been losing value for more than a decade.

There's very little money made from recorded music anymore. Apple — iTunes is mostly a singles market, Spotify, that kind of service doesn't pay high royalties, radio is not as big as it used to be. So all those revenues are not where they were, and haven't been for the last 15 years.

Second — and luckily in response to item 1 — touring now generates lots of money. And it's especially  lucrative to be the Rolling Stones. Their last three tours combined will likely have grossed about $1 billion (the mid-2000s "Licks" tour did +$300 million, and the current one is expected to do could do more than $100 million for a much more limited set of dates). The average ticket price is $370. Bruce Springsteen is only $93.29.

When asked recently by the Guardian's Casper Llewellyn Smith about whether he regrets bassist's Bill Wyman leaving the band in 1993, Charlie Watts cracked,"I think he missed out on a very lucrative period in our existence."

rolling stonesMoney is money, Dorenfeld says, noting that bands as big as the Stones command supremely high margins on splits with concert promoters and bookers because of the guaranteed interest they draw.

They're getting more than 60% is my guess (of a show's gross revenues). If the show made $3 million, that's $1.8 million, not counting merch — you walk away with that also. They're unique —  all the ones like them are unique — the deals are much tighter because the revenue from everything else is much greater.

An additional consideration — perhaps not for the band, but for anyone who would think the Stones are wasting everyone's time and perhaps risking ridicule — is that while the band is just the four current members, "Rolling Stones, Inc." likely employs more than a dozen people full time and hundreds while on the road. rolling stones texasSetting up stages, even for arena tours like the current one, are massive operations that Dorenfeld says can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars a night. "They're a major corporation on the road — they're a company," he says. "They do pay well, many have benefits and healthcare."

This final point was probably first ever articulated in 1995 by Larry Mullen Jr. of U2, the band that basically invented blow-out multi-sensory  rock n' roll tours, in Bill Flanagan's "At The End Of The World":

The biggest responsibility out of all this is the fact that you employ a lot of people and you are responsible for them, responsible for making sure they're taken care of. People's livelihoods are depending on you. I don't like that responsibility too much, but that comes with the territory.

Of course, one does not go on tour merely to keep your entourage happy. But it's part of the equation.

Asking  why the Stones "need" to go on tour leaves out the question of "wanting" to go on tour. They're still ostensibly artists, after all. Here's what Jagger said in an interview with Chicago Tribune rock critic Greg Kot in April:

Everyone had a really good time in the five shows before Christmas (in London, New Jersey and New York). We wanted to see how the band was playing, how people were reacting. We didn’t get too much moaning or complaining.

Given all of the above, that seems to be a fairly low hurdle to surmount.

This Grand Theft Auto V Gameplay Ad Has Been Seen 6 Million Times in Just 24 Hours [The Brief]

This ad for Grand Theft Auto Vhas been watched 6 million times in just 24 hours. The new version of the Rockstar game is back in Southern California. It launches Sept. 17.

Adtech is in a bubble poised for collapse, according to Jack Marshall at Digiday. Key quote: “People think ad tech is hot, but in reality, there’s been carnage in the market,” said Sundeep Chanana, a digital media specialist with investment bank Waller Capital. “For every AppNexus, there are literally 35 or 40 unprofitable companies out there bleeding cash that just can’t raise more money or find a buyer. A lot of those guys will disappear, or you’ll see them gobbled up for prices far below expectations.”

Ad agencies give Marissa Mayer's Yahoo mixed reviews. Yahoo's sales people seem rejuvenated and refocused, source say.

Twitter is already selling promoted trends inventory for the 2014 World Cup.

Mobile advertising revenue jumped from $5.3 billion in 2011 to $8.9 billion last year, according to a new report from the IAB and IHS, AdExchanger reports

Rupert Murdoch will testify again to the U.K.'s parliament, this time to explain remarks he was recorded making about phone hacking and bribing police officers.

Surf brand Roxy has irritated viewers with a teaser ad that asks people to guess who its new endorsement star is. The problem is that the ad focuses heavily on surfer Stephanie Gilmore's naked body, and hardly at all on her other achievements.

WPP's Mindshare has tapped former Digitas North America CEO Colin Kinsella as its new CEO/North America, Ad Age reports. Kinsella succeeds Antony Young, who will move into global business development. After the Digitas-LBi merger, Kinsella was replaced by Tony Weisman as CEO of Digitas North America.

PETA's bloody new ads show people who wear animal skins at the scene of the slaughter they cause.

Kia and its in-house ad agency Innocean have made two ads that are getting attention because the spokescharacters in them are incredibly annoying. Both characters address the camera as they walk confidently through their worlds, proclaiming zen-nonsense aphorisms such as, "I'm a woman of my time, on time, behind time." (Kia and Innocean have been going through a bit of a tone-deaf period, recently.)

Campbell Ewald has changed its name. It will now be Lowe Campbell Ewald.

A shocking video from earlier this year has surfaced of Justin Bieber peeing into a New York City night club restaurant's mop bucket instead of making it to the bathroom.

"That's the coolest spot to piss, you'll forever remember that," a friend of Bieber's can be heard telling a supposed club employee in the background. "You're not gonna remember him pissin' in the restroom. Everybody does that."

The 19-year-old pop star then takes what looks like Windex and sprays a picture of Bill Clinton on the wall, stating, “F--- Bill Clinton.”

Bieber and his friends — who were leaving the club through the kitchen when he decided to take a bathroom break — then start to laugh and yell "We’re the wild kids!"

Watch the disgusting video obtained by TMZ below:

Bieber has yet to respond to the TMZ video but did post one of his own "4thefans." If there's any left after his latest childish stunt.

How An Old Dustin Hoffman Video Exploded On The Internet This Week

$

dustin Hoffman

Yesterday, Dustin Hoffman took over the Internet. He was on every news outlet from Business Insider, The Huffington Post and Upworthy to The Washington Post, Hollywood Reporter and NBC.

It's surprising because Hoffman isn't exactly A-list Hollywood anymore. He also hasn't done anything new or noteworthy.

The reason he went viral yesterday is because of a 30-year-old movie he starred in, "Tootsie," and a post-interview he did with the American Film Institute (AFI). AFI posted the clip on YouTube on December 17, 2012.

So why did the clip finally explode only yesterday?

We traced it back. It all starts one month ago, on a tiny Tumblr blog ...

One month ago, a Tumblr called "ABoysBestFriendIsHisMother" did what it often does: It broke out a movie into a series of gifs overwritten with text. He's done it for "Batman" and even "13 Going on 30." But last month, he decided to do it with Dustin Hoffman and his old 1982 movie, "Tootsie."

The video he took the GIFs from was posted by AFI on December 17, 2012. Yesterday afternoon it had 670,000 views. This morning it has nearly 3 million.

If you haven't watched the clip, you can watch it below. Basically, Dustin Hoffman says he was mean to unattractive women prior to his role in Tootsie. When he realized he couldn't be transformed into an attractive woman, he cried and realized he had been superficial and cruel to others.

Here's The Naked 'Project Runway' Billboard That Was Banned In LA

Heidi Klum may be Queen in the land of Lifetime's "Project Runway," but the city of Los Angeles has ruled that the supermodel's billboard promos for the show's upcoming 12th season be banned.

"The photo was set to run on billboards, posters, websites, bus shelters and in magazines, but the nude bodies were just a little too risque for the public in L.A.," reports TooFab. "So a version with underwear will run in its place. "

New York, however, is more open to the ads. The racy promo will appear on billboards and in print magazines throughout the city.

Check out the ad below and judge for yourselves:

But it's not the first racy promo for the fashion-design competition reality show.

For season nine, Klum — who is both host and executive producer of the show — posed for a poster wearing nothing but a snipped-off tie and strategically placed pair of scissors.

For season 10, she appeared in lingerie and heels while lounging atop hundreds of pairs of scissors.

But Klum's latest racy ad isn't the only time Lifetime has had to yank risqué show promos.

"The Client List" star, Jennifer Love Hewitt, revealed on "Conan" in May that she had to tone down the show's billboards for the second season. The first season promos featured a full-body shot of the actress in lingerie, while the second season artwork featured her cut off at the chest.

"It was a bit of a scandal with the first billboards," she admitted.

"They changed the billboard strategy," noted Conan, showing the difference in the below photos.

How Steve Jobs, Rupert Murdoch and Stephen King Worked To Fix Ebook Prices (AAPL)

$

steve jobs book

The federal court ruling describing how Apple fixed prices in the ebook market reads like a thriller: Steve Jobs was seriously ill in 2009, and his SVP in charge of books, Eddy Cue, raced all over New York to sign up five major publishers into a pricing agreement before he died.

At the same time, Apple was about to launch the iPad in 2010, and Cue and Jobs wanted all the publishers on board with the iPad's iBookstore before the launch event.

Cue played hardball with the publishers, and they got their wish — Hachette, HarperCollins, MacMillan, Penguin, and Simon & Schuster all signed on with Apple, and book prices went up by as much as 50% virtually overnight, even though Amazon controlled 90% of the market.

What is startling about the ruling is how overt the cooperation was between the publishers and Apple. The publishing CEOs literally held regular dinners to discuss how they could rid themselves of Amazon's dominance of the market, and CEO Jeff Bezos' insistence that all ebook be sold at a mere $9.99.

And then there's the star power. In addition to Apple's Jobs and Cue, Rupert and James Murdoch, and authors Stephen King and Sarah Palin all had cameo roles.

Here's how it happened, according to today's ruling.

This is the takeaway: Apple orchestrated the whole thing.

The backstory: In 2009, Apple had no ebook reader and Amazon dominated 90% of the market.

Publishers HATED Amazon's low-price policies.

7 Reasons You Won't Want To Take The Kids To See 'The Lone Ranger'

$

armie hammer lone ranger

"The Lone Ranger" wasn't as terrible as all of the critics made it out to be

Thefinal half hour of the film was actually pretty enjoyable

However, there was one thing about the movie that would leave parents uncomfortable if they brought along the little ones.

The amount of violence in the film is distasteful — something surprising for a Disney flick.

Granted, "The Lone Ranger" is far from a bloodfest — there's barely any bloodshed to be seen spilled on screen. Instead, some of the more gruesome bits are inferred through sounds, silhouettes, and reflections.

We get the film isn't necessarily meant for kids with a PG-13 rating.  However, historically the main target audience for "The Lone Ranger" has been those of all ages.

And since an aged Tonto is recounting this story to a young boy — far younger than 13 — we assume the tale is safe for younger moviegoers.

Not so much.

Strewn with violent deaths, oddly placed killer bunnies, and pornography references, "The Lone Ranger" isn't a film to take a child to see.

In a film that was otherwise silly every few minutes, it didn't make much sense to include jarring dark moments. It appeared the film couldn't decide whether to be serious or funny.

Word about thefilm's violencegot out quickly in early reviews. Knowing the film wasn't completely kid-friendly most likely costDisney a lot of money opening weekendand probably deterred some families during the holiday weekend to see big box-office win "Despicable Me 2" instead.

William Fichtner's bloody fingers.

One of the first scenes we see in the film is of William Fichtner's villainous Butch Cavendish unscrew a nail with bloody fingernails.

Normally we're not squeamish, but something bloody and raw this early on in a Disney flick is unsettling.

Two gross-out scenes.

Here's where the distasteful factor enters.

There's nothing appealing about seeing a grown man urinate into a bucket near the start of a Disney movie.

Later on, the film zones in on a defecating horse. There was no added value to show Armie Hammer get dragged through animal feces.

It was just vile. Not funny.

The notorious heart-eating scene.

You've probably heard this one by now.

Early on in the movie, Cavendish puts an end to John Reid's (Hammer) brother and then cuts his heart out.

You would think that would be enough, but Cavendish then goes and eats it!

You don't see it on screen. Instead the audience hears the slosh as Cavendish digs in. We also see it reflected in Hammer's eye as he lay partially unconscious next to his deceased brother.

Hulbert, a longtime "Scrubs" fan, got in touch with actor Zach Braff through his recent Kickstarter project and put him to work in a video helping him with an engagement video.

"Sorry, you caught me listening to one of my favorite songs by my good friend Matt," Braff says in the video that was posted yesterday and already has over 90,000 hits.

"Man, he can really rock out. He asked me to help him with a little question he'd like to ask you, Janice," Braff continues. "He knows ... that he never became the rock star that he promised he would become ... But he's hoping you can overlook that. And he's like you to please consider being his wife."

Even Matt and Janice's friends, family and pets get in on the act, urging her to "Say yes!" with handmade signs.

"I wanted to show her that not only do I love her but that she's loved by all our friends and family too," Hulbert wrote in the about section of his YouTube page. Amy Poehler is having a love affair with "Game of Thrones."

Last year, "Parks and Recreation" co-creator Michael Schur tweeted, "FWIW, I'm pretty sure the cast and writers would be up for a 100% cross-over season with Game of Thrones, if they were into it."

Superfan Poehler responded to the call.

In a recent interview with Time Out New York, she assigned the "Parks and Recreation" cast some new roles in "Game of Thrones."

She's confident they would be able to pull off the swap.

"If you put our cast in any other show — "Game of Thrones," "Mad Men" — we'd all be able to deliver," Poehler said. "Singing, dancing, drama, sex, documentary — all of it."

Bobbi Kristina  the daughter of Bobby Brown and the late Whitney Houston — is engaged.

After much speculation, the 20-year-old finally confirmed the news on her Facebook page that she is indeed set to wed 23-year-old Nick Gordon.

Gordon is a controversial character who is often referred to as the adopted son of Whitney Houston because he started living with the singer and her family over a decade ago.

The young couple's relationship blossomed from sibling-like ...

"I love sleeping with big brudder (: only person that helps my insomnia B!! Hah (:" Bobbi Kristina tweeted earlier this year.

... to romantic since Houston's death last year.

"Yes.. I'm MADLY in love with this phenomenal man. @Nickdgordon (:truly happier then ever:) xO" she posted on Instagram earlier this week, along with this photo.

And now, after previously admitting the engagement on their reality show, Bobbi Kristina is confirming to fans: "YES, we me nick are engaged,” she announced, going on to write, “I’m tired of hearing people say ‘eww [you're] engaged to your brother or if Whitney was still alive would we be together or would she approve of this.’”

She continued:

Let me clear up something, we aren't even real brother and sister nor is he my adoptive brother. My mom never adopted him. In fact, mommy was the one who even said that she knew that we were going to start dating. My mom knows me better than any of you. A lot of yall are saying that yall are only saying this all out of love. Which is bull because if that was so, all you would want is for me to be happy. People need to seriously stop judging my relationship. Pretty sure it's my own decision who I want to be with. Yes, my relationship may not be perfect. We will have rough patches, just like every other relationship. And we have had our rough patches. You may or may not agree with my relationship. You may or may not respect it. Judge me, go ahead. Your opinions are yours and mine are mine. It is my life and not yours. The decisions I make have nothing to do with you. Goodnight

Elisabeth Hasselbeck abruptly bid farewell to "The View" Wednesday morning after 10 years as co-host on the ABC daytime talk show.

The conservative Hasselbeck is heading to Fox to replace Gretchen Carlson as co-host on "Fox & Friends."

Through tears, Hasselbeck fawned over boss Barbara Walters, saying "I've had over 3,000 days working by your side. Over the course of a decade, I feel as though I have attended the Barbara Walters school of broadcast journalism."

"Because of all that you've given me," she continued. "I feel more than prepared and confident to move forward. I've worked with the best leader in the business and I couldn't ask for a better mentor."

Walters said Wednesday that Hasselbeck’s departure is “going to leave a big void at this table." Though Walters also said there are no immediate plans to fill that void, TMZ reports that Brooke Shields is in talks to replace her.

Lindsay Lohan Is More Talented Than Marilyn Monroe, Says Hollywood Director

lindsay lohan instagramDirector Paul Schrader found something redeeming — and quite like Marilyn Monroe — in the hot mess that is Lindsay Lohan.

The director wrote an essay for Film Comment about Lohan's organic on-screen believability, which he discovered while filming the indie thriller, "The Canyons," due in theaters in August.

Scrader said:

"I think Lohan has more natural acting talent than Monroe did, but, like Monroe, her weakness is her inability to fake it. She feels she must be experiencing an emotion in order to play it. This leads to all sorts of emotional turmoil, not to mention on-set delays and melodrama. It also leads, when the gods smile, to movie magic. Monroe had the same affliction. They live large, both in life and on screen. This is an essential part of what draws viewers to them."

Their magnetism is a product of their chaos, he explained.

"We sense that the actress is not performing, that we are watching life itself. We call them 'troubled,' 'tormented,' 'train wrecks' — but we can't turn away."

Lindsay Lohan court March 2013Schrader picked up on other ways the starlets are alike while reading James Goode's book, "The Making of the Misfits," a behind-the-scenes chronicle of the production of a 1961 drama starring Monroe.

"Tardiness, unpredictability, tantrums, absences, neediness, psychoframa — yes, all that, but something more," Schrader said, "that thing you can't take your eyes off of, that magic, that mystery."

He also pointed out what makes them different —namely the 50 years that separate them — and held the media partly responsible for Lohan's endless supply of crazy.

Lastly, he gives the poor girl some credit:

"It's difficult to maintain self-discipline in a world of easy gratification," Schrader said of a celebrity environment that took shape post-Monroe. "It must be exhausting."

Rapper Lupe Fiasco's Most Controversial Statements And Lyrics

Lupe Fiasco Performance

Chicago-bred rapper Lupe Fiasco had both fans and education-reformers in a tizzy last week over his unorthodox speech to Chicago public school graduates.

He called their education one of the worst on Earth. As his stage surname suggests, Fiasco is no stranger to controversy.

Born Wasalu Muhammad Jaco, the "Kick, Push" artist has made some divisive comments in his day. Whether discussing war, religion, or the rap-game, Lupe doesn't hold back. His criticisms of President Obama and the overall political system in the U.S. have especially raised some eyebrows.

On "Lasers," Lupe's third studio album, he spits some heavy lyrics. The album's title looks like "Losers" with an anarchist symbol. Arguably one of the rapper's most controversial tracks, "Words I Never Said" lays down his feelings about 9/11 and the Middle-East in no uncertain terms.

"I really think the war on terror is a bunch of bulls---/

Just a poor excuse for you to use up all your bullets."

"Limbaugh is a racist. Glenn Beck is a racist/

Gaza strip was getting bombed Obama didn't say s---."

During StartUp RockOn's inauguration performance in January, Lupe played this outspoken track on repeat, refusing to deviate. Security eventually escorted him offstage.

Considering the event celebrated Obama's election to a second-term, he caught some flack for his behavior. But Lupe's anti-Obama attitude didn't appear out of nowhere. He's openly criticized government policies as early as 2011.

In an interview with CBS, Lupe called Obama "the biggest terrorist." He went on to say, "The root cause of terrorism is the stuff that the U.S. government allows to happen ... and it's easy for us because it's just some oil."

When he tried to defend his comments on Bill O'Reilly, a screaming match ensued. The sentiments echo "American Terrorist" from his 2006 release "Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor."

So disgusted with American political culture, Lupe even admits he doesn't vote — never has, never will. Again in 2011, this time on English DJ Tim Westwood's BBC radio show, Lupe said he didn't vote for Obama or any other president for that matter. “You vote for bombs lodged in the sides of schools that say 'Made in U.S.A.' he said. "American tax dollars paid for that."

Raised a black Muslim, Lupe's career also includes some defining moments regarding race and religion. In a 2011 Guardian article, Lupe calls religion "irrational." "It's built on nonsense," he said.

In 2010, Lupe covered Kanye's "Jesus Walks" with a Islam-twist, converting the tracks to "Muhammad Walks."

In the Quran they call him Isa/

Don't think Osama and Saddam is our leader/

We pray for peace, but the drama intrigues us.

Lupe doesn't discriminate though, rapping in "Words I Never Said" that the Israelis pushed the Palestinians too far. He doesn't forget Christianity either, commenting on priests' pedophilia in "Lamborghini Angels," a single from part one of "Food & Liquor II."

Most recently, Lupe decided to leave the rap-game entirely because of the antagonistic responses to a new single off "Food & Liquor II: Part 1."

The track, "B---- Bad," criticizes hip-hop's use of the word "b----" to describe desirable females, reasoning it confuses young girls and boys. Odd Future rapper Chief Keef then started a Twitter squabble, eventually claiming he was hacked.

According to the Huffington Post, Lupe told Baltimore's 92Q, "The murder rate in Chicago is skyrocketing and you see who's doing it and perpetrating it, they all look like Chief Keef."

The first trailer for Spike Lee's reboot of the cult thriller "Oldboy" is out.

Based on this brief 2:30 second preview, it appears that Lee preserves a lot of the cinematography that director Chan-Wook Park employed in the original film.

Without giving away any spoilers, "Oldboy" follows Joe Doucett (played by Josh Brolin) who is unexpectedly taken prisoner by an unidentified man. Twenty years later, he is released without any explanation.

And that's where the story gets really screwed up.

"Oldboy" is dark and deeply disturbing psycho-erotic thriller. Park's original film gained a cult following in the U.S., and it introduced much of America to the Korean revenge genre.

Check it out the trailer:
