The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences have announced that they are combining lead and supporting actor and actress categories for the miniseries/TV movie section of the Emmy awards, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The report states that the new categories will be called "outstanding actor in a miniseries or movie" and "outstanding actress in a miniseries or movie" and they will be expanded to six nominees a piece.

Until this past year, the categories had five nominees each.

This should raise some conflict among TV studios that will now have less of an opportunity to promote actors in their TV films and shows.

Popular series like "Downton Abbey" and critically acclaimed, made-for-TV films on HBO will likely be the most affected by the news.
