Fox News anchor Shep Smith basically summed up the Republican primary this afternoon, offering a hilarious critique of Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney, and the bizarre alternate universe that they appear to be living in.

After reading a statement from Romney that referred to the Gingrichs as "friends," Smith gave this response:

"Politics is weird. And creepy. And now I know lacks even the loosest attachment to anything like reality."

Watch the clip below.

Smith's remarks concluded an epic diatribe against Gingrich, after the former House Speaker announced he is suspending his campaign with a bizarre and characteristically ponderous speech that lasted for a full 23 minutes and included lines like "I am not totally certain I will get to the moon colony."

"Wow. I'm exhausted," Smith said when Gingrich finished. "I feel like I've been transported from another world. What just happened?"

“I remember, so before he announced for the presidency I saw him in the green room right back over here,” Smith said later. “He said, ‘Shep, I’m going to have the biggest online event ever. I’m going to announce this in multiple cities all across the country.’ I’m like, I thought then he was delusional and now I’m sure.”
