Call it marketing genius to plan the release of a Dr. Seuss film around the anniversary of the author's widely publicized birthday this past weekend.
Whether it was the casting of Taylor Swift coupled with Zac Efron, the Betty White cameo or the successful marketing campaign, the film about a tiny woodland creature, "The Lorax," did huge at the box office this weekend—becoming the second-best animated film debut that wasn't a sequel. (The first was "The Simpsons Movie.")
Other than that, it was still a solid box office weekend with the third-largest weekend of the year.
Nic Cage's "Ghost Rider" manages to ride out the week in the top ten, Jennifer Aniston's box-office bomb "Wanderlust" dropped out along with Amanda Seyfried's less-than-thrilling "Gone."
And, one film finally makes its first appearance into the top ten after a 15-week run in theaters.
