Facebook used Coldplay's Page to tout its new Timeline-oriented update to Pages.
Coldplay isn't one of CEO Mark Zuckerberg's favorite bands, if his fan page is any guide. So it's a mystery why this group was chosen to illustrate the new product.
Coldplay is, of course, hugely popular with marketers and ad agencies—its catchy, earnest, important-sounding but inoffensive ditties have scored many a commercial, most recently for Chipotle.
Facebook chose nine other brands as examples of how the new Pages can be good for advertisers. Those brands are: Chevrolet Volt, The Amazing Spider-Man, Verizon Wireless, Nike, Chevy Sonic, The Vow, Burberry, Starbucks and American Express.
The latter company also won Facebook's ad awards.
(Scroll down for a screengrab of the announcement, featuring a big product placement for Starbucks.)
AND FINALLY: Toldya! Regular readers of BI Advertising first learned of the launch of Timeline for brands back on Jan. 27. You're welcome!
