Actress Ashley Judd announced on Twitter Wednesday that she has decided not to run in Kentucky's 2014 Senate race, ending speculation that the film star would make a Democratic bid to replace Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Democrats are likely breathing a sigh of relief at the news. Although Judd's potential switch to politics has gotten considerable buzz in recent weeks, national and state Democratic leaders have privately suggested that she would have sunk the party's already-slim chances of winning in deep-red Kentucky.
