Michelle and Malia Obama were both photographed wearing J. Crew during the inaugural festivities yesterday.
The First Lady wore a jeweled belt, while her daughter wore a plum coat.
The First Family are often photographed wearing J. Crew, an affordable brand that makes them appear more approachable.
But the public won't be able to replicate the Obama ladies' looks because J. Crew is retiring them, creative director Jenna Lyonstold the Today Show.
"(Michelle Obama's) belt was actually a sash. She fashioned it into a belt around the coat,” Lyons said. “We won’t rerun that. She did her own thing to that, and out of respect, we’ll let her have her that moment.”
Malia's coat color will also be retired, Lyons said.
"The lady day coat that Malia was wearing has been in our line for years, and we’ll continue that, but we’ll retire the color,” said J.Crew’s creative director, Jenna Lyons. “We won’t do the color again, just out of respect for the first family.”
Lyons also told Women's Wear Daily that J. Crew's sales weren't impacted by whether the Obamas wear it.
“I think it’s difficult to equate it into dollars,” Lyons said when asked about if the brand would see an increase in sales.
