On Thursday, Arianna Huffington announced the launch of the OWN channel on her site.
Huffington says, "Oprah was, in fact, made for the Internet."
Huffington and Oprah decided to team up last May to create the platform on The Huffington Post. This came after OWN slipped in ratings almost immediately after launching and then in May announced a 20 percent staff layoff.
Maybe a channel on The Huffington Post will be an effective platform for Oprah to reach her fans again.
Huffington is confident it is. She writes in her post that the partnership with OWN makes clear sense because Oprah always integrated her audience effortlessly when she was on television. By teaming with The Huffington Post, the network has opportunities for her fans to go online and use social media to connect.
One of Oprah's most anticipated shows, "Favorite Things" in which she selected her top gift selections for the holiday season, will live on through her new channel. It was the top story when the page launched yesterday.
Here is part of Arianna Huffington's statement on the partnership:
"And since engagement is deeply embedded in the DNA of HuffPost as well, I'm delighted that, starting today, we're partnering with the Oprah Winfrey Network to bring some of Oprah's best content to the HuffPost platform -- a platform that just received its 200,000,000th comment. On the new HuffPost OWN section, we'll be working to enlarge and deepen the conversation on, as Oprah puts it, living our best lives."
