Office Sex Version 2

From K Street to Pennsylvania Avenue, relationships between the power elite of Washington, D.C. are largely defined by a pervasive underground sex culture, says one reporter.

In a new Bloggingheads interview, GQ contributing editor Marc Ambinder has the inside scoop: "There is an enormous amount of — we could call it cohabitation — among the, sort of, I don’t know if you want to call them 10 to 15,000 people who make up the power elite in D.C., but that is to say, they're sleeping with each other."

According to Ambinder, this "power elite" includes members of Congress, congressional staff, lobbyists, journalists, and yes  Secret Service Agents. To illustrate how commonplace this "cohabitation" is, Ambinder estimates that one-third of all married congressmen who have been on the Hill for over six years have had an affair.

While Ambinder couldn't pinpoint the exact reason behind the frequency of the coupling, he did propose one explanation: "You have these enormously powerful people with extremely hard jobs keeping the same hours and being in close proximity to one another and having really nothing else to do but each other at various points."
