The actress who plays Barb on 'Stranger Things' says she didn't think anyone would care about her

Warning: Spoilers below if you haven't watched the first season of Netflix's "Stranger Things."

Barb has become a huge breakout character for fans of Netflix's "Stranger Things," which caught the actress who played her by surprise.

What's not surprising? Actress Shannon Purser had her first television interview on Thursday's episode of Netflix talk show "Chelsea." That's called synergy.

On "Stranger Things," Barb was Nancy's (Natalia Dyer) best friend. She accompanied Nancy on a secret night out with school bad boy Steve (Joe Keery), and then ended up becoming a victim of the show's monster.

"It was absolutely amazing," Purser said of the role, which was her first acting job ever. "It was totally unexpected. I had a great time with the kids, and with everybody, and on the show. And suddenly it blew up. People were tweeting about Barb. I didn't think anybody would care and they did. It was awesome."

Chelsea then joked, "We came up with a new hashtag: #BarbLivesMatter."

It's unclear whether Barb will return from the dead for the second season of "Stranger Things." But Purser has already landed a new gig on The CW's upcoming live-action drama based on the "Archie" comic books, "Riverdale."

So don't worry, Barb won't be leaving TV one way or another.

Watch the preview of Purser on "Chelsea" below:

Meet the 13-year-old dancing sensation who stunned people at the big Apple event

maddie ziegler sia apple

Pint-sized dancing queen Maddie Ziegler blew away attendees at Apple's splashy media event in San Francisco on Wednesday. The 13-year-old performed alongside singer Sia.

Ziegler entered the limelight on Lifestyle's hit TV series "Dance Moms," but is perhaps best known as Sia's alter-ego performing in not one, but five of her music videos.

The latest, "The Greatest," shows the young dancer-turned-actress leading a crew of 48 children in wild choreography. The video ends with the entire crowd lying on the floor.

Its haunting imagery has led critics to label it a tribute to the mass shooting that claimed 49 lives at an Orlando gay nightclub in June.

At the end of the Apple event, Tim Cook announced a special performance by Sia, who stood almost entirely motionless at the edge of the stage. Ziegler, joined at first by a flock of dancers dressed in matching flesh-colored leotards, lept and writhed as Sia sang.

Not a lot of help from Sia here.

sia apple 1

The pair performed "The Greatest" and "Chandelier."

Ziegler is no stranger to the spotlight. She accompanied Sia— in matching platinum wigs, no less — on the Grammys red carpet in 2015. She also starred in an advertising campaign for Capezio dancewear that went viral and appeared on the show "Pretty Little Liars."

Most recently, Ziegler launched a luxury "athleisure" line called Maddie. It's available online and in Nordstrom stores starting in October.

Apple may have given the rising star her biggest platform yet, however. People in attendance at the event and interested techies watching from their offices were glued to Ziegler's dancing.

Others cracked jokes at Apple's expense.

She later got to see the new products up-close, accompanied by Cook himself.

Humorously enough, Apple may have a new spokeswoman in Ziegler.

According to The Daily Mail, the Pittsburgh native received an Apple Watch for her 13th birthday last year. Here's hoping she upgrades to a Series 2 device next month.

'Super Mario Run' forced Nintendo's other mobile games out of 2016

A brand-new mobile version of Super Mario was unveiled during Apple's presentation on Wednesday, but that exciting news came at the cost of pushing back Nintendo's other mobile games.

Previously, it was announced that mobile versions of "Animal Crossing" and "Fire Emblem" would be coming to mobile platforms this year to sit alongside Nintendo's other mobile app, "Miitomo."

Now, however, it seems that the development of "Super Mario Run" pushed back the release date for "Animal Crossing" and "Fire Emblem" to early 2017.

Speaking to IGN, Nintendo said the following regarding the delay of its mobile versions of "Animal Crossing" and "Fire Emblem":

"Based on a variety of factors, we felt it was most appropriate for Super Mario Run to launch ahead of these other two apps. Our Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem titles for mobile will launch before the end of our fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2017."

It's a bummer that mobile versions of "Animal Crossing" and "Fire Emblem" are coming a bit later than originally planned, but the impending release of "Super Mario Run" is probably the best possible thing that could have caused it. "Super Mario Run" will be available later this year on iOS first and will be coming to Android later.

Microsoft's cheapest new Xbox can do something that Sony's expensive new PlayStation 4 can't

The brand new PlayStation 4 Pro is capable of powering games in glorious 4K, the successor to high-definition. That expensive new 4K TV you bought is about to get a lot more useful!

samsung 110 inch ultra hd 4k tv

Unfortunately, the PlayStation 4 Pro's ability to play 4K games and stream 4K movies doesn't translate to Blu-ray playback. A Sony representative confirmed to Business Insider that the PlayStation 4 Pro does not support 4K Blu-ray playback.

That might not be such a big deal if ultra-high-definition weren't part of the selling point of the new PS4 Pro. The console costs $400 ($100 more than a standard PlayStation 4) and it's touted as the most powerful of Sony's three versions of the console.

Even more bizarre, Microsoft's $300 Xbox One S is capable of playing 4K Blu-ray discs, as well as streaming films in 4K.

It's not clear why the PlayStation 4 Pro wouldn't be capable of playing Blu-ray discs, but it's the kind of unfortunate oversight that looks bad on paper if you're the average person trying to decide which console to buy.

Sony's new, $400 PlayStation Pro launches on November 10; another new PlayStation 4, the Slim, launches in September for $299.

Apple Mario

Nintendo's resident mastermind Shigeru Miyamoto took the stage at Wednesday's Apple iPhone 7 launch event to make the surprise announcement of Super Mario Run— finally bringing Nintendo's flagship video game character to smartphones.

And Nintendo investors are loving it. When the markets closed, Nintendo shares were up 28.79% to $36.32. The market has long awaited Nintendo's entrance into smartphone gaming, as sales of the company's own console hardware have sagged.

And unlike the smash hit Pokémon Go, Nintendo actually developed Super Mario Run in-house, which should make investors feel even better. Earlier this year, when investors realized that Nintendo couldn't fully capitalize on the Pokémon Go phenomenon, shares in the company collapsed.

That said, Pokémon Go developer Niantic announced that the game is coming to the Apple Watch, making Nintendo look good by association.

Niantic, the company that makes Pokémon Go, announced some amazing numbers at the Apple event Wednesday.

John Hanke, CEO of Niantic, said at Apple's iPhone event that players have covered a whopping 4.6 billion kilometers since the game's July 6 release.

For reference, the distance from the sun to Neptune is just under 4.5 billion kilometers. Neptune is the eighth —and farthest — planet from the sun

It took NASA probe Voyager 2 12 years to cover that distance. Pokémon Go players did it in two months.

Kanye West confirms he's making an album with Drake

In a new Vogue profile, Kanye West confirmed rumors that he and Drake are working on a new collaborative album.

"We're just working on music, working on a bunch of music together, just having fun going into the studio," West said. "We're working on an album, so there's some exciting things coming up soon."

Though West declined to reveal a release date for the project, this is the first solid confirmation from West or Drake that the album is indeed in the works.

In early August, West teased the project when he asked the crowd at Drake's OVO Festival in Toronto, "Is y'all ready for this album?" — though he provided no further clarification.

Later that month, the hype surrounding the album intensified when a billboard in Los Angeles featured Drake's OVO label logo beside West's G.O.O.D. Music logo.

Drake previously discussed the project in April on his OVO Sound Radio station, saying, "We had plans, we were supposed to do a mixtape together, album together, so maybe we'll get that done."

Now it looks like their plans are finally coming to fruition. Even if Kanye is keeping it all a little vague.

Apple Music rolls out Spotify-inspired playlists (AAPL)

Apple MusicThis story was delivered to BI Intelligence "Digital Media Briefing" subscribers. To learn more and subscribe, please click here.

Apple Music has launched two new playlist features that closely resemble Spotify’s popular “Discovery Weekly” playlist, TechCrunch reports

They are designed to retain existing Apple Music users, and encourage free trialists to convert to a full subscription.

Both are housed in the “For You” section of the Music app, which displays songs and artists in accordance with users’ likes and listening history. The “My New Music Mix” playlist is updated every Friday with new songs, and the “My Favorite Mix” playlist is updated everyWednesday. The latter playlist is made up of songs that the user has already liked in addition to new content. Users can subscribe to either playlist and set them to update automatically.

Launching personalized playlists plays into Apple’s strategy in several ways:

  • Improving user experience to boost retention. Curated playlists can be a huge value add to the user experience. It means that users can listen and discover music at their leisure, without having to actively search for the new content. Reducing the effort needed to enjoy a novel listening experience can encourage repeat usage for Apple Music. If new users become sufficiently addicted to this feature, it could compel them to sign on to a full subscription once their trial expires.
  • Opening a new monetization opportunity. Introducing these playlists paves the way for brands to jump on board, should Apple be inclined to monetize its music app with ads. Sponsored playlists are one of Spotify’s most attractive ad products because of the large audience that each playlist has. On the other hand, sponsored playlists barely disrupt the user’s listening experience, since they largely consist only of a brand or logo in the playlist title.

The $35 Pokémon Go gadget that automatically catches Pokémon for you finally comes out next week

pokemon go plus

On September 16th, Niantic will finally release the Pokémon Go Plus — a $35 accessory, promised since the game's launch in July, that will make it much easier to catch Pokémon even when your phone is in your pocket.

Here's Niantic's explanation for how the Pokémon Go Plus will work, per a blog post:

As you pass by a PokéStop, Pokémon GO Plus will vibrate and light up and alert you to the location. You’ll even be able to collect new items just by clicking the Pokémon GO Plus. If there’s nearby Pokémon hiding in your area you’ll be alerted with lights and vibrations; catch the Pokémon with a button on Pokémon GO Plus and then continue on your way (later, you can check your Journal to see which Pokémon you’ve just caught).

It sounds pretty cool. But it may face an uphill struggle: While Pokémon Go has been downloaded over 500 million times, plenty of players have moved on following a quiet period without major new features or updates to the game. Still, the device has been backordered since it was first announced, amid the original phenomenon.

pokemon go plus

Furthermore, the die-hard Pokémon Go community has dug into the game's files, and found that the Pokémon Go Plus seems to only work if the game is open on your phone. So even if your phone is in your pocket, the Pokémon Go app might still have to be on the screen for the Pokémon Go Plus to work its magic.

Meanwhile, the Pokémon Go community is still awaiting a promised "Buddy Pokémon" feature update that would make it easier and more fun to take a single Pokémon and raise it to be stronger — simplifying one of the game's most annoying quirks.

Still, it's a nice alternative to being glued to your screen all the time while you're on a Pokémon hunt. To a similar end, Niantic also announced that similar functionality as the Pokémon Go Plus is now available as an app on the Apple Watch.

Here's everything we know about the new PlayStation 4 Pro

PlayStation Pro

At Wednesday's PlayStation event in New York, Sony finally, officially, showed off the PlayStation 4 Pro.

The console, which is set to launch this November at $399, is a serious upgrade to the original PS4 in terms of horsepower.

Here's everything you need to know about the PlayStation 4 Pro:

The PlayStation 4 Neo is a pretty big jump in power, but it's not a brand new console

The PlayStation 4 Pro is slightly different internally from the current PS4. It's not a gigantic jump in power, but it is a notable lift. Here's the full rundown, care of leaked specs:

—Support for 4K resolution and high dynamic range (or HDR) on TVs that support them.

—More graphics processing power so traditional and virtual reality games can look and perform better.

—A 1TB hard drive.

Going forward, games will look better on Neo, but there will be no Neo-exclusive games

Every PlayStation 4 game is going to work on every PlayStation 4 console. How each game works depends on which console you have.

Going forward, developers will be expected to build games for "base" PS4 consoles as well as Pro consoles. You won't have to buy separate versions of each game; it will automatically switch depending on which kind of console you play it on.

The Pro versions of games should look and perform better than their base counterparts, but it will be different from game to game.

The PlayStation 4 Neo is not the same as the PlayStation 4 Slim

You may have noticed that Sony also announced another new device, the PlayStation 4 Slim. This is not the same as the PlayStation 4 Pro.

The Slim is a smaller version of the original PS4. The same thing happened to the PS2 and PS3 a few years after those consoles came out. It will not have the same leap in horsepower as the Neo.

Here's what a showrunner — the top job in TV — actually does

$

joffrey game of thrones

Even a casual TV fan has seen the word "showrunner" thrown around. But what does it really mean and what is a showrunner in charge of?

When it comes to the making of a TV show, the showrunner is the top of the food chain.

"It’s a weird amalgam of a creative job and a management job that I’m sure exists in other industries, but I haven’t yet come across the equivalent of it yet. It’s pretty bizarre, I think," Remi Aubuchon, a veteran producer and the showrunner for Playstation Network's recently canceled "Powers," told Business Insider.

"Being a showrunner is basically like babysitting versus parenting," Bravo's "Odd Mom Out" co-showrunner Julie Rottenberg told us, "because suddenly the baby is yours, you can’t just leave at six o’clock when it’s time. And you’re pretty much responsible for every aspect of the show."

Most showrunners start out as writers, and she thinks it's a bit of a miracle that anyone fits the job description.

"I find it amazing that writers, who are often not well-suited for managerial roles, are the people who wind up running things," Rottenberg said. "I feel like if you find someone who’s a great writer, and then is also really great at managing people, it feels amazing to me that that happens as often as it does, because they’re really two very different parts of your brain."

Business Insider talked to several TV showrunners to shed some light on the "bizarre" but essential roles they play in the job:

Showrunners are in charge of making the most of a budget.

"A lot of the showrunner’s job is figuring out how to balance the amount of money that you have, the time that you have with which to do it, and try to get the best product that you can out of what you’ve got available," Aubuchon said. "I think if everybody had $10 million an episode, it probably would be a no-brainer, but that’s not how it works that I know of anywhere. If it does, let me know."

A showrunner has to make sure everyone feels valuable.

"A great showrunner isn’t a dictator, they’re curators," said Martin Gero, the showrunner for NBC's hit drama "Blindspot." "You’re working with all these creative people, you don’t want to be like, ‘Here’s what I want. You’ll do exactly what I say.’ You want it to be a collective, but at the end of the day, somebody’s got to have the final word, and the showrunner’s the final word."

Rottenberg agrees: "You have to both be a very clear and strong leader, but also very open to people’s ideas and making people feel that they’re a part of the process because they are. This is such a collaborative medium, where everyone I think looks better and does better work when they feel invested in the finished product."

A showrunner protects the show's creative vision.

"A showrunner has to advocate for the creative aspect of the show, and that’s harder than it looks sometimes especially when I have to sign the budget every week," Aubuchon told us. "And I have to be responsible and conscious, and 'Powers' is a really great example... There’s lots of elements to that show that could really jack up the cost of the show. And the tendency, especially in the production world, is to want to simplify and go for the easiest and less expensive version of that, and my job is to actually say, ‘No, no, no, I want it to be like this and we need to figure out a way to make it happen.'"

"Odd Mom Out" co-showrunner Elisa Zuritsky, who has known her partner Rottenberg since they were both in elementary school, said, "The toughest balancing act I think as a showrunner is knowing what you want and having a clear sense of the show you want to put out there while still allowing for other voices to change your perception or make it better, ultimately. It’s one of the most collaborative jobs, I think, a person could have."

Kids watch services like Netflix 15 times as much as they play outdoors

Stranger Things Stand By Me

Playing outside is often thought of as a staple of a kid's fantasy world, facilitating battles with dragons and encounters with far-off lands.

But nowadays, children's time is dominated by screens, particularly streaming video services like Netflix.

Last week, we took a look at data from Exstreamist that showed the average child between ages 2 and 18 streams about 1.8 hours a day of content from Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, and other online services.

That's a whopping 650 hours a year.

After our article, the team at CordCutting.com decided to put that number in perspective. They looked at data from the National Wildlife Federation, which said that, excluding structured activities, American kids spend an average of only four to seven minutes playing outdoors per day (2010).

The 108 minutes per day kids spend watching services like Netflix is 15 to 27 times that.

It's good to note that this stat doesn't include structured time outdoors, such as time spent playing on a sports team. But it does capture something about how the driver of children's imaginations probably isn't outdoor play time, but rather, the screen.

Here's a chart from CordCutting.com:

You can now play your Pandora or Spotify from your Uber driver's sound system

$

Pandora Uber riders can now play Pandora radio stations through Uber’s iPhone app, the companies announced Thursday.

In June, Uber rolled out the ability for its drivers to add Pandora to their app, along with a 6-month ad-free trial. Pandora’s Nick Marcantonio told Business Insider that “hundreds of thousands” of drivers have enabled the feature so far, and they have played over 4 million hours of Pandora music.

“The adoption has been really strong [on the driver side],” Uber’s Holly Ormseth said, echoing the sentiment.

Now riders will be able to tap into the sound system of any driver that has his or her music system connected to the Uber app. This feature will sit beside Uber’s ability to let riders who have Spotify Premium play music in a similar way, though it will extend to both free and paying Pandora customers. Spotify has been available for awhile in your Uber, but the program was on temporary hiatus. It's back now, and both Pandora and Spotify are supported.

Here’s how it will work. If you request a ride from a driver that has music turned on, a little window will pop up and show you what music is playing currently. You can then select whatever Pandora station you want, or Spotify track, and it will start playing as soon as you step into the car.

This seems like a potential recipe for social disaster. Maybe you and your driver don’t share the same taste in bad pop music. But Ormseth says that, in the time Pandora has been available for drivers, they have consistently asked to let riders have control of the music. She does admit they were a bit worried about it at first, however.

But at the end of the day, it’s a customer service business, and that won out in feedback, she said.

As a rider, to work the feature, you must have a Pandora account, either free or paid. You can’t simply control the driver’s Pandora account, since Pandora didn’t want you messing with your driver’s personalization, Marcantonio explains. The best case scenario for Pandora is likely to get the service back on the radar of users who are pretty inactive.

For Uber, the move isn't about favoring Pandora or Spotify, but rather about integrating more and more services into its platform. Ormseth says that Uber wants to provide as many entertainment options as possible for riders. Right now that means Spotify Premium and Pandora, but in the future one could imagine Netflix on a TV in the back of your self-driving Uber.

Currently, the music functionality is only available for the iOS app, but Android will be coming soon.

The biggest news at Apple's big iPhone event wasn't from Apple (AAPL)

$
0
0

Apple's iPhone announcement events are an annual celebration of America's most profitable company.

They've become a sort of tech tradition in the past few years, with an expectation of a mid-September event with a new iPhone launching soon after. Such is the case with the iPhone 7.

Apple iPhone 7 keynote

Each year, that tradition feels a bit more staid, a bit more forced.

But this year, Apple had a secret up its sleeve that was even more exciting than a new iPhone:

super mario run icon

For years people have speculated about if and when Nintendo's most iconic game character would head to Apple's ubiquitous devices; for so many years, in fact, that people have stopped wondering.

Nintendo's made plain over and over that a move to mobile could mean the devaluing of its extremely valuable intellectual properties: Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong, and other gaming classics. Nintendo is basically the Disney of video games.

super mario run

"In the digital world, content has the tendency to lose value, and especially on smart devices, we recognize that it is challenging to maintain the value of our content," late Nintendo president Satoru Iwata told Time Magazine in 2015. "It is because of this recognition that we have maintained our careful stance."

That was a softening of the company's previous stance. Nintendo isn't "late" to the mobile game market as much as it has tried to ignore the world of mobile gaming altogether.

Which is why it's such a huge deal when the original creator of Super Mario, Shigeru Miyamoto, was introduced by Tim Cook on Apple's stage on Wednesday. It was, by far, the biggest news out of Apple's big event. And it didn't even concern Apple, really.

Apple Mario

AirPods are fine and all, but they're just an evolution of the same Apple earphones you've been using since you bought an iPod. And hey, a new, shinier-than-ever iPhone is nice, but, well, it's another iPhone. Wasn't there a new one of those last year?

In the case of Nintendo's news — that the father of Super Mario is leading production on "Super Mario Run," the first mobile game starring Super Mario— it's the beginning of a tectonic shift for the world's most important video game company.

Look no further than financial markets for an idea of the impact that Nintendo's news had compared with that of Apple's:

Nintendo stock vs Apple Stock

Nintendo's stock got a huge bounce based on the news, putting the Japanese game maker's stock back near "Pokémon Go" mania-levels.

And this is all before "Super Mario Run" even arrives on the App Store. The game arrives on iOS this December, by the way, but there's a way to get notified as soon as it's available.

This is why you should (or shouldn't) buy the newest PlayStation 4 instead of waiting for November's souped-up model (SNE)

PlayStation 4 Pro

The worst-kept secret in video games is now official: Sony is launching not one, but two, new PlayStation 4 consoles this year, just in time for the holiday shopping season.

The first, merely dubbed the PlayStation 4, is the new baseline model. It's really just the same PlayStation 4 that's been on the market since 2013, but smaller and sleeker. It'll sell for $299 starting on September 15.

The second new console, the PlayStation 4 Pro, is a powerhouse of a console, selling for a pricier $399 starting on November 10. Under the hood, the PS4 Pro sports all kinds of new graphical wizardry that will enable your games to look prettier — provided you have a TV that can really take full advantage.

It means you'll have lots of options if you're looking to get into the world of PlayStation 4. Here's why you should (or shouldn't) buy the slim PlayStation 4 instead of the PlayStation 4 Pro.

Don't sweat it too much

Seriously, don't stress out here: Sony has promised that PlayStation 4 Pro and all other iterations of the PlayStation 4 will share a games library.

That means it will play all your PS4 games, past, present, and future. All your PlayStation 4 controllers will still work with it, too. In fact, the new PS4 comes with an upgraded Dual Shock 4.0 controller, much like the one we have today, but with some subtle tweaks like a light bar on the front.

New PlayStation 4 controller

So no matter which PlayStation 4 you choose, you will absolutely not miss out on forthcoming PlayStation-exclusive blockbusters like "Horizon: Zero Dawn" or "The Last Guardian."

That said...

Lookin' good

Going by Sony's specs, the PlayStation 4 Pro definitely has the major edge in graphical horsepower.

What this means for you is that you'll be able to play (certain) games in glorious 4K/UltraHD resolution, the next huge step up from our modern and more common HD technologies. And in general, the PlayStation 4 Pro will be able to support yet more gorgeous graphical effects than we see on the modern PlayStation 4.

tomb raider sdr vs hdr

Thanks to a software update coming soon, Sony says all PS4 consoles past and present will support high-dynamic range, or HDR, a technology available on certain newer TVs for displaying super-vivid colors that Business Insider's own Antonio Villas-Boas thinks is actually better and more noticeable than UltraHD.

And both consoles will support PlayStation VR, Sony's forthcoming $399 virtual reality headset. Presumably, the PlayStation 4 Pro will run virtual reality games like "EVE: Valkyrie" more smoothly and at higher resolutions, but Sony didn't confirm that on stage this week.

But not everybody will be willing to drop the $500 or so for a quality 4K/HDR television, or $399 for the PlayStation VR. Without one or both of those things, the PlayStation 4 Pro is $100 extra for not a lot of return.

Which brings us to the next point...

Price is wrong

The new PS4 is clearly the value option here, priced at $299. Meanwhile, PlayStation 4 Pro is being positioned as the higher-end unit for the power gamer, starting at $399.

If it helps, you can think of the new PS4 as the iPhone SE of the PlayStation line: Powerful enough and cheap enough to be attractive to a lot of people, but not necessarily right on the cutting edge.

PlayStation 4 Slim (leak)

So, bottom line here is that if you really need that cutting-edge aspect, and you're already willing to invest heavily in the world of 4K and virtual reality, waiting for PlayStation 4 Pro in November is the thing to do. If you don't care about any of that stuff and just want to play the latest games for cheaper on the latest PlayStation available, you can't go wrong with the new, slim unit in September.

Microsoft is experiencing this kind of divide for itself, with a new Microsoft Xbox One S console that launched this past August, and a new beefed-up Project Scorpio slated to launch in the holiday of 2017. At least you won't have to wait that long to make a choice for your PlayStation 4.

Clinton, of course, continues to take fire for the FBI investigation of her use of a private email server, with continued leaked details, like an aide who destroyed a phone.

There's also evidence donors to the Clinton Foundations had special access to the State Department when Clinton was Secretary of State, but "there’s no evidence the State Department ever did any favors for them," Meyers said.

One foundation we've heard less about is the Trump Foundation. Meyers has an idea of why that is.

"It's not exactly clear what the Trump Foundation does," the host said. "The Clinton Foundations provides life-saving care to AIDS patients while the Trump Foundation once gave $250 to the Special Olympics and $100 to the March of Dimes. Did he think the name meant you could only give dimes?"

The irony is that, unlike Clinton, Trump has bragged about paying politicians to get what he wants. One thing the Trump Foundation definitely did was pay $25,000 to Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi’s campaign back in 2013, when Trump University was being looked at for a potential fraud investigation. Bondi's office ultimately decided not to puruse the investigation.

Meyers played a clip of Trump in the primaries talking about how he get what he wants from politicians as a businessman.

"I give to everybody," Trump said. "I gotta give to them. When I want something, I get it. When I call, they kiss my a--."

Director James Cameron has shed some light on the central plot of his upcoming four sequels to "Avatar," his 2009 blockbuster that grossed over 2.7 billion at the box office worldwide.

In an interview with Variety, Cameron explained that the four films will revolve around a "family saga" between the "Avatar" protagonists.

"The storyline in the sequels really follows Jake and Neytiri and their children," Cameron said. "It's more of a family saga about the struggle with the humans."

The current release schedule for the sequels is as follows: "Avatar 2" (Christmas 2018), "Avatar 3" (Christmas 2020), "Avatar 4" (Christmas 2022), and "Avatar 5" (Christmas 2023).

As Vulture points out, however, Cameron has repeatedly pushed back the first sequel, so the current schedule is tenative to say the least.

Cameron explained to Variety that he is prepared to push back the films again, in order to ensure the "cadence" of their releases.

"We haven't moved that target yet, but we will if we need to. The important thing for me is not when the first one comes out but the cadence of the release pattern," Cameron said. "If it's an annual appointment to show up at Christmas, I want to make sure that we're able to fulfill on that promise."

burning man

The legendary "Missed Connections" section on Craigslist is a beautiful mixture of absurdity, heartfelt longing, and wistfulness. And this is doubly true of those from Burning Man, the yearly festival in the middle of the desert whose very nature invites an intense nostalgia that keeps people coming back year after year.

And this year's Burning Man missed connections are delightful.

There are people who tossed pineapples back and forth, only to have their blue-wigged potential soul mate melt into the desert. And those who just wanted to join in on the "snail crossing endeavors."

"You said how chill I was with my west coast style..."

Read on for this year's amazing Burning Man missed connections, and some of our favorites from last year as well:

Note: If you've never read a "Missed Connections" post before, Craigslist users often use tags like "m4w" (man looking for woman') to alert people to their own gender and the gender of the person they're looking for. Please also note some of the listings contain obscenities.

'Tibetan Singing Bowls, Burning Man Temple - m4w'

"I gave you a Tibetan singing bowl session, you - girl from Palo Alto with beautiful eyes, at the Temple BM 2016 Saturday afernoon
You said I 'put you under'
I was distracted by so many things going on at the time and I could not remember your name, but you said you work with at risk youth and deliver energy healing in Palo Alto, you also mentioned you just bought your first bowl set. I just wanted to make friends."

'Burning Man: Freckled face beauty - m4w'

"We met near 8:00 & G and your rode on my handle bars all the way to the restrooms at E. We sat and talked while I made you smile, you said how chill I was with my west coast style. With freckles on your face and and my hair standing tall you gave me an address but I forgot to call. You kissed me once but I made you kiss me twice I was digging your body while my tattoos caught your eye. Hit me up when you get a chance I live in Denver now so I can be there in a flash."

'Burning Man: Rob w the voice from Boston via New Jersey via Greenpoint'

"You took care of me when I was sick and I never got to properly thank you.
Your voice drew me in, with funny, sweet stories about your travels and your Polish parents. Even though I got sick it was an amazing trip because it brought me to you. You saved me and I wanted to explore the playa and you - but I was too out of it to articulate my true intentions. You're nonjudgmental, kind, with an open mind and hot...well you know - you're a SMF. I'll be in San Francisco next month or if you're still traveling come to Seattle and crash with me. I may have what you've been looking for and there is plenty of Metal in town."

Yours truly,
Oddy

Drake can rest easy knowing police have recovered what was stolen from his bus.

Police arrested a suspect in the robbery of $3 million worth of jewels from a tour bus used by Drake and DJ Future the Prince, the Associated Press reports. And they found the stolen goods.

Police say they identified the suspect on security footage at the Talking Stick Resort Arena in downtown Phoenix, where Drake and Future the Prince were performing.

Travion King, 21, was booked on a burglary charge, and police learned that he had already been arrested for alleged tresspassing.

Police did not say who owned the jewelry, but confirmed it's not Drake's.

As the AP previously reported, Sgt. Vince Lewis said the theft occurred Tuesday night at the Talking Stick Resort Arena.

The investigation remains ongoing.

The "Hotline Bling" rapper and Future are in the middle of their "Summer Sixteen" concert tour.
