'SNL' host Ronda Rousey made sure these mean girls would never bully the new girl again

snl ronda rousey love struck nbc

NBC's "Saturday Night Live" made good use of host Ronda Rousey's MMA fighting skills in a scene we've seen go down in some form in high school movies over and over, but this time with a new kick-ass ending.

Rousey played the school's new girl, who was invited on a date with the school's clueless BMOC Chad, played by Beck Bennett. Everything is so romantic, until Rousey eats her soup and discovers it's strangely crunchy.

It turns out the whole date was a high-production trick engineered by Chad's girlfriend (Vanessa Bayer, giving us full-on "Cruel Intentions'" Sarah Michelle Gellar).

"We played a trick on you, idiot," Bayer informs Rousey. "Did you really think that my boyfriend, the most popular guy at South Jaffrey High, would ask the weird, new girl on a date? Wake up."

But as Bayer continues her very lengthy mean girls speech, Rousey doesn't use any words. She uses punches and kicks.

The best TVs you should consider buying this year

samsung tv 4k uhd

There's never been a better time to buy a TV.

Whether you're looking to spruce up a dorm room, home entertainment center, or try out the world of 4K or 3D, there's a set for everyone.

But because there's so many categories of TV out now, it can be tough to choose the best option that fits your needs. To help you make up your mind, we've compiled a collection of the best TVs based on multiple factors, whether you're looking to save money, try 4K for the first time, or you're simply looking to buy the best of the best.

The best basic HDTV that won't break the bank

There's something to be said about keeping it simple. While it's not loaded with extras, that's the point. For a very aggressive price, this Insignia TV features a 1080p resolution (full HD), a 50" screen, and plenty of inputs for video game consoles or set-top boxes.

Price: $349

The best option for a small room or dorm.

If you've got a small room, say dorm room sized, this TV has you covered, and one of the lowest prices around. While it's only 720p, at this size that won't make a lot of difference. This set is meant to be more utilitarian than anything else, and its size and price certainly fit that bill.

Price: $149

The best budget 4K TV

If you're interested in seeing what all the 4K hype is all about, but aren't ready to jump in with both feet, Vizio has you covered. At a respectable 43" the price of this TV given its resolution is unmatched.

Price: $549

Bill O'Reilly confronts Donald Trump on his $100,000 Clinton Foundation contribution

bill o'reilly donald trump

In an interview that aired Tuesday, Fox News host Bill O'Reilly directly asked Donald Trump how he could attack Hillary Clinton's family foundation while having been a major donor.

"Some of your opponents have said, 'Look, Donald Trump gave $100,000 to this Clinton Foundation.' And you say?" O'Reilly said.

Trump portrayed himself as a businessman who would give to anybody to help his bottom line.

"Over the years I've been called a great businessman," Trump said. "They just said in one of the articles that I'm a world-class businessman."

"I got along with Democrats and liberals and Republicans and conservatives," he added. "And they called me. And they loved me. And if they wanted to have dinner, they'd call me. And whatever I wanted, I got. I mean, that's part of being a successful businessman."

O'Reilly suggested that Trump's donations might not have been completely above board.

"So you bribed them?" the Fox host asked with a smile as he and Trump talked over each other. "You bribed them? As a businessman, you bribed them. You bribed them."

O'Reilly pointed out that one potential issue in the 2016 general election was the Clinton Foundation. Some Republicans have accused former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the Democratic presidential front-runner, of trading government favors for contributions, though Clinton fiercely denies that suggestion.

"You gave $100,000 to the Clinton Foundation," O'Reilly said. "Now she's in trouble ... So if you're the Republican nominee, how can you attack her on that when she'll turn around and say, 'You gave me $100,000 to do what I did.'"

Trump dismissed the idea that he would have any trouble criticizing Clinton on the topic. He also said he thought the Clinton Foundation had less overhead at the time he contributed to it.

"It's very easy. It's very easy," Trump said. "And I'll have to tell you this: In all fairness, I thought that money was being put to very good use. I assumed it was being put to — whether it's Haiti, or all of the different things that I heard about — I didn't know about the private airplane rides all over the place."

Trump added: "I got along with everybody, Bill. I got along with everybody."

According to the Clinton Foundation's website, Trump gave between $100,001 and $250,000 to the nonprofit. Trump told O'Reilly he would "love" to have his money back.

Chelsea Handler's new app will get you out of bad dates and awkward meetings

chelsea does

In an episode of her new Netflix documentary series, "Chelsea Does," comedian Chelsea Handler works through her frustrations around technology. She even helped create her own app, called Gotta Go.

Designed in partnership with app developer Yeti, Gotta Go has one simple function: to get you out of unwanted situations.

All you have to do is create an excuse (i.e. aliens are abducting me, my house was just burglarized), assign it to a phone contact who will be the one to fake-text or call you, attach an emoji so you can remember it later on, and set an alarm when you want the excuse to pop up.

When you're in that boring dinner later in the evening, you'll get the text you created earlier, or if you so choose, a phone call with a pre-recorded message from Handler.

Handler's initial conversations with Yeti began nearly a year ago. While Yeti did much of the app design, she arrived with ideas about what the app should look like. Originally, she wanted to make an app to get people out of bad dates. The concept soon evolved, according to Yeti president Tony Scherba.

"We wanted to pick a problem that she could really relate to, like getting out of sticky situations," he tells Tech Insider. "Getting out of awkward and bad dates was something Chelsea brought up, and we started thinking of other situations where people would want an eject button."

The app itself is uncluttered and easy to use. It has one function and does it well. I could imagine using it once in awhile, though probably not on an everyday basis.

Gotta Go

Later in the documentary episode, Handler pitches the app to VCs at Foundation Capital, a respected venture capital firm in the Bay Area.

"Chelsea's pitch was as entertaining and unique as you could imagine. It's not everyday that we get a Hollywood A-lister pitching an app to us," Paul Holland, a general partner at Foundation Capital, tells Tech Insider.

He had concerns about the "stickiness" of the app (that is, whether people would keep using it over time), but noted that the dating app space is a large and profitable one. Want to know whether Foundation Capital invested? You'll have to watch.

Regardless, if there's enough interest, Yeti plans to keep the app updated. "If people like it, we'll try to keep it going as long as possible," says Scherba.

mad men best tv shows main

If you've ever felt left out at a party when conversation inevitably turns to "this show you absolutely need to watch" — well, you've come to the right place.

Business Insider has rounded up the 20 most noteworthy shows of the last 15 years — the best of this bright generation in TV. They range from the most elite shows of the period, like "Six Feet Under" and "Mad Men," to shows that have become part of the pop-culture lexicon, like "Firefly" and "30 Rock."

And before you leave irate comments about snubs for "The Sopranos" or "The Walking Dead," allow us to explain our criteria for the list: We only looked at shows that premiered between 2001 ("Sopranos" debuted a couple years earlier) and 2015, and we only looked at shows that have concluded their runs (we're still waiting to see where these "Dead" shows go). If a show hasn't been officially canceled, like HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm," then it was also not included.

Here are the shows everyone should watch from the last 15 years:

SEE ALSO: The amount of TV shows in 2015 have reached a 'staggering' number

"Six Feet Under" (2001)

Before "True Blood" and "Banshee," producer Alan Ball took a sledgehammer to America's ideals with "Six Feet Under." It followed a dysfunctional California family that lives in and runs a funeral home.

The show would take us to unbelievably low places, with just an inkling of humor. And it introduced us to actors who would go on to other notable roles. Michael C. Hall went on to "Dexter." Peter Krause moved over to "Dirty Sexy Money" and "Parenthood. And Frances Conroy is currently staring on Hulu's "Casual."

"24" (2001)

Concept drama "24" starred Kiefer Sutherland as a federal agent tasked with stopping an assassination plot against the president. With strong writing and acting, the series became a huge hit, and later a cult show.

Each season took place over the span of 24 hours, which was a plot trick films and other TV shows would use and expand on. And while today we see many movie actors doing TV, Sutherland did so before it was popular.

"Alias" (2001)

Bradley Cooper has moved to leading-man status on the big screen, but just nine years ago, he played clueless best friend and possible love interest to Jennifer Garner's impossibly badass spy Sydney Bristow.

This series took the spy drama to whole new places, with a mix of mythology and science fiction thrown in. Plus, who can resist Jennifer Garner's head-to-toe undercover transformations?

Chris Rock is rewriting the Oscars show amid diversity uproar

Chris Rock won't do the script he planned to perform for this year's Oscars awards ceremony. In light of the uproar over diversity, he's rewriting the show with a new angle.

"Chris is hard at work. He and his writing staff locked themselves in a room,"Academy Awards producer Reginald Hudlin told "Entertainment Tonight" during the NAACP Image Awards luncheon on Saturday. "As things got a little provocative and exciting, he said, 'I'm throwing out the show I wrote and writing a new show.'"

Spike Lee mentioned Hudlin and Rock in his statement earlier this week, in which he said he wouldn't be attending this year's ceremony. He was soon followed by many other celebrities– including Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, and George Clooney – who expressed their anger that not one black actor was nominated for the second consecutive year.

In response, the Academy reiterated its intention to make diversity a priority, and is changing some rules to do so. According to Hudlin, the organization is also supportive of Rock's efforts to include the controversy in the show.

"You should expect [diversity jokes]," Hudlin told ET. "And, yes, the Academy is ready for him to do that. They're excited about him doing that. They know that's what we need. They know that's what the public wants, and we deliver what the people want."

The 88th Annual Academy Awards will air Sunday, February 28 at 8:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. PT on ABC.

40 year old virgin steve carrell

"The 40-Year-Old Virgin" almost didn't happen, but it was a good thing it did, because it helped launch the careers of Hollywood A-listers like Paul Rudd, Seth Rogen, and Steve Carell.

In a recent interview with Conan O'Brien, Carell revealed that the film he helped cowrite with Judd Apatow was almost sacked because Universal felt that Carell looked like a "serial killer" in early footage.

"We hadn't shot any dialogue," he said. "It was me riding my bike with a weird helmet, and it was me walking down the street and seeing suggestive posters and going eghh. And just that week compiled, they went, 'No, no, no, this is not a comedy.'"

But the shooting continued and Apatow's feature directorial debut became a comedic success, leading to "Knocked Up" and more.

Here's what the cast and filmmakers have been up to in the last decade, since "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" came out in 2005:

SEE ALSO: 11 must-see movies completely rejected by the Oscars

Steve Carell had appeared in a few comedies ("Bruce Almighty" and "Anchorman") before landing the lead role of the 40-year-old virgin, Andy, in Judd Apatow's directorial debut.

The film helped launch Carell to an award-winning career in comedic and dramatic roles. He played Michael Scott on "The Office" for seven seasons, a role that earned him six Golden Globe nominations (one win) and nine Emmy noms. He also earned an Oscar and a Golden Globe nom for his portrayal of convicted murderer John du Pont in "Foxcatcher" (2014). He can most recently be seen in "The Big Short," for which he earned another Golden Globe nom.

Before Paul Rudd played coworker and friend to Andy, he was best known as Cher's ex-stepbrother in "Clueless."

The newest trailer dropped this week and it looks like Harley's origin story will take up a large chunk of screen time — and Robbie has a delightfully unhinged presence.

Robbie also has two other films coming out this year: a live-action Tarzan remake, "The Legend of Tarzan," and comedy "Whisky Tango Foxtrot."

Now that music comes out on the weekend, and not always on every streaming service, it can be hard to know where to find the next great song. When Drake signed Majid Jordan to his OVO label, many wondered if the duo would find its place in the pop/R&B scene. Three years after sharing smash hit "Hold On, We're Going Home" with Drake, the group seems to have found it. "Every Step Every Way" has the potential to be another big hit. Majid Jordan's self-titled album is out February 5.

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis - "White Privilege II" (feat. Jamila Woods)

This one's a doozy. Macklemore is back to doing what he does best: making statements with his music. In a nine-minute fury, the rapper tackles everything from Black Lives Matter to Officer Darren Wilson's non-conviction. The song is a lot to take in, but it definitely gets its point across. It has been almost four years since Macklemore's last album, "The Heist," but look for him to come out swinging in 2016.

Kanye West - "No More Parties in LA" (feat. Kendrick Lamar)

It's honestly just good to have a stream of new Kanye West music on a regular basis. West and Lamar complement each other well, and the beat they rap over is insane, sampling several songs including West's own "New God Flow." "No More Parties in LA" is good, but it seems like the two rappers are just getting started.

How the revived 'X-Files' made that massive life-sized alien spaceship for its pricey premiere

x files ufo crash foxWarning: Spoilers for the first episode of the new "X-Files" below.

"The X-Files" creator Chris Carter wanted the show's revival to be more than just your standard return. He wanted it to be fresher, more contemporary, and bigger than it had been. The series accomplished that right off the bat by creating the largest prop it has ever made for the premiere episode. But that wasn't even the most expensive episode of the new season.

On Sunday, viewers got an eyeful when the series showed a UFO crash. Modeled after the iconic 1950s flying saucer, the scene showed viewers what really went down at Roswell. Led by Mark Freeborn of the art department, the ship took a team of painters, sculptors, and visual-effects pros to pull off.

According to Freeborn, the life-sized flying saucer was 50 feet in diameter.

x files flying saucer fox tv ag

The crashed-saucer scene serves a significant purpose for the series. It and its alien passenger found near the site set up a conspiracy that changes the mission of FBI agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson). The military is recreating alien technology with the goal of using it for a military takeover of the government. It uses all the privileges afforded by the Patriot Act, the NSA, and Homeland Security to monitor everyone's conversations and destroys anything and anyone in its path to overthrowing the government.

Fox's marketing department "crashed" a replica of the saucer into LA's The Grove shopping center on Friday.

With such a showpiece, how could episode one not be the most costly of the six-part return?

"Isn't that amazing? I would've thought it was the most expensive," an incredulous Carter told Business Insider.

the x files mulder scully child william foxIn fact, the most expensive episode of the new run is episode two, Carter revealed. Titled "Founder's Mutation," it centers on the results of testing on children — some born with horrible deformities, others with great powers — and will cause Mulder and Scully to wonder about the child they gave up for adoption, William.

How did it cost more than an episode that featured a life-sized UFO?

"It had the most locations, it used some of the most expensive equipment, and I think it had a large cast," Carter said about the episode.

Fans will be able to watch the explosive (and expensive) episode when it airs Monday at 8 p.m. on Fox.

13 Hours Dion Beebe Paramount

A man who accidentally shot a woman in a Washington state movie theater had the gun because he was afraid of mass shootings, according to police.

Dane Gallion, 29, was at a screening of Michael Bay's "13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi" on January 21, when his gun discharged, hitting a 40-year-old woman in the shoulder. She was in serious condition, but was in stable condition by Saturday.

In a statement released by police, Gallion said he had the gun because he was “concerned about recent mass shootings in public places,” so he kept the gun unholstered.

Gallion left the theater after the shooting, and according to a theater patron, "seemed like he was intoxicated."

After Gallion returned home, his father called 911, saying that his son was upset and claimed the gun had fallen out of his pocket and discharged.

Since then, Gallion's description of the event has changed.

Police say that Gallion told an arresting officer that someone reached for his crotch, so he accidentally fired the weapon. He later said at the station that someone had been bothering him before the gun accidentally went off.

His bail was set at $25,000 and he will appear in court for a second time Tuesday.

Ken Kratz, the prosecuting attorney in the trial of "Making a Murderer" subject Steven Avery, is writing a book.

The former district attorney of Calumet County, Wisconsin, told WBAY-TV that he has wanted to write the book since Netflix released "Making a Murderer" on December 18, “because the one voice forgotten to this point is Teresa Halbach.”

Halbach, a photographer, was murdered in 2005. She was allegedly last seen alive at the Avery family's property and auto salvage yard. Steven Avery is serving a life sentence for her murder.

Kratz said that he's “finally grateful to tell the whole story,” according to the Greenbay, Wisconsin, ABC affiliate.

That story, though, won't include an interview with Avery. Kratz attempted to visit Avery in jail to interview him for the book. In a letter to the convict, Kratz expressed disappointment that Avery decided to pass on his offer.

Avery's new attorney, Kathleen Zellner, shared Kratz's letter on Twitter. It was clear she didn't think much of the offer.

steven avery jury guilty making a murderer netlfix.PNG"Kratz letter to SA: Confess so I can write book & profit. This bloodsucking gives vampires a bad name," she wrote.

In the letter, Kratz referred to Avery's continued claim of innocence in the Halbach murder as "nonsense."

“Since I’m the only person who probably knows more about your case than anyone else, I hoped that you would choose me to tell your story to,” Kratz wrote. “Unfortunately, you only want to continue your nonsense about being set up. That’s too bad, because you had one opportunity to finally tell all the details, but now that will never happen.”

Avery is currently appealing for a new trial. As seen in "Making a Murderer," Kratz resigned from his post as Calumet County district attorney after it was discovered that he had been sending sexual text messages to former clients, several of whom were victims of assault and domestic abuse.

Late last week, Charlotte Rampling, a best actress nominee at this year's Oscars, made headlines for calling the #OscarsSoWhite controversy "racist to whites."

In a statement to CBS News' "Sunday Morning," Rampling said her comments "could have been misinterpreted."

"I simply meant to say that in an ideal world every performance will be given equal opportunities for consideration," she said. "I am very honored to be included in this year's wonderful group of nominated actors and actresses."

The "45 Years" actress made the original comments to France's Radio 1, which were then translated by the Guardian.

She also added that "diversity in our industry is an important issue that needs to be  addressed and she is "highly encouraged by the changes announced today by the Academy to diversify its membership."

After receiving criticism following a second consecutive year in which no minorities received acting nominations, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences released a new plan to double the amount of female and minority members in its organization by 2020.

The ultra-luxury condominium on the corner of West 61st St. and Central Park West has been home to a long list of bankers, celebrities, and assorted bold-faced names, including Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein and Sting.

Author Michael Gross, who published a history of the condo called "House of Outrageous Fortune" in 2014, calls it the world's most powerful address. Unlike many of New York's history-filled apartment buildings — especially its main rival across the park, 740 Park Avenue — 15 Central Park West is a relative newcomer.

Completed in 2008 by developers Arthur and William Lie Zeckendorf, it offers a ridiculous array of amenities to New York's moneyed elite, including an in-house chef, a lap pool, and a private screening room.

CBS's "The Big Bang Theory" star Kaley Cuoco shared the photo of her cast members with that of those present for the special.

"Ummmm NIGHT MADE," Cuoco wrote on Instagram. "Can’t breathe #friends meets #bbt @bigbangtheory_cbs I died and went to heaven."

Pictured, from left, are David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, Jim Parsons, Simon Helberg, Jennifer Aniston, Johnny Galecki, Courteney Cox, Cuoco, and Lisa Kudrow.

"Friends" star Matthew Perry wasn't able to make the event because he's currently working on a play in London. But he will appear in the special via a pre-taped segment, according to an NBC release.

Cast members from "Cheers," "Frasier," "Will & Grace," "Taxi," "Wings," "Mike & Molly," "Two and a Half Men," and "Crowded" also attended the shindig honoring Burrows, the prolific comedy director, as he helms his 1000th episode of TV with "Crowded."

The special will air Sunday, February 21, at 9 p.m. on NBC.
