Amy Schumer poses naked for new Pirelli calendar celebrating 'distinguished women'

Amy Schumer stripped down for the 43rd Pirelli calendar, but she's one of few women who did.

The Pirelli calendar, published by the tire company, usually features scantily-clad models, but this year, the company announced a departure from its usual themes to honor 13 distinguished women “of outstanding professional, social, cultural, sporting, and artistic accomplishment.”

Legendary photographer Annie Leibovitz shot the photos of the women — including Amy Schumer, Serena Williams, Ava DuVernay, Patti Smith, Kathleen Kennedy, and Yoko Ono — and said that the idea was to have "straightforward" photos.

"When Pirelli approached me, they said they wanted to make a departure from the past. They suggested the idea of photographing distinguished women," she said in a statement. "I wanted the pictures to show the women exactly as they are, with no pretense."

Though a majority of the women are fully-clothed, Williams and Schumer both stripped down to their underwear.

"The Amy Schumer portrait added some fun," Leibovitz said. "It’s as if she didn’t get the memo saying that she could keep her clothes on.”

Schumer posted the photo on Instagram with the caption: "Beautiful, gross, strong, thin, fat, pretty, ugly, sexy, disgusting, flawless, woman. Thank you Annie Leibovitz!"

The complete calendar will be unveiled tonight in London.

Pirates are starting to post a bunch of Netflix's ultra-high-definition videos online (NFLX)

jessica jones marvel netflix review 2A flood of leaked ultra-high-definition (4K) videos from Netflix and Amazon Prime has begun to make its way onto the internet, according to TorrentFreak.

Back in August, it seemed that pirates had finally cracked the 4K copy protection on Netflix when a copy of the the first episode of "Breaking Bad" emerged. But since then, no significant 4K releases had surfaced until a few days ago, when a slew of titles began to pop up, according to TorrentFreak.

TorrentFreak's sources have confirmed that this represents a significant breakthrough.

“Many groups started releasing 4K rips recently and they are working perfectly. I expect that 4K resolution releases will become more popular now,” a source within the community told TorrentFreak.

4K streaming titles have been available for quite some time on sites like Netflix and Amazon, but prior to August they had been thought safe from pirates. In fact, many had believed it was currently “impossible” to break High-Bandwidth Digital Copy Protection (HDCP).

One title that has been leaked is Netflix's new Marvel series "Jessica Jones." The media info for one of the Jessica Jones leaks says the bitrate is 32.5 Mbps, and one should bear in mind that it could be difficult to watch this episode on the average computer today.

Netflix told TorrentFreak that they were investigating the leak of the "Breaking Bad" episode back in August, and would try to prevent similar breaches in the future. “Piracy is a global problem,” a Netflix spokesperson said. “We, like others content providers, are actively working on ways to protect content featured on our site.” They have not yet commented on this new set of leaks.

We have reached out to Netflix for comment.

George Lucas hasn't looked at the internet in 15 years — this is why

It seems fandom's obsession with “Star Wars” forced George Lucas off the web.

In a lengthy new Washington Post profile of the creator of the “Star Wars” saga, Lucas said that since 2000, he’s avoided the internet and all its trappings like Facebook, Twitter, even email.

A large part of this has to do with the constant ridicule he’s received since making the “Star Wars” prequels from 1999-2005. Though they were huge box-office draws, most fans thought they couldn’t hold a candle to the original trilogy.

Lucas told Vanity Fair back in June:

“It was fine before the internet... But now... it’s gotten very vicious and very personal. You just say, ‘Why do I need to do this?’”

In the Post story, Lucas also chimed in on the decades-long debated question: Did Han Solo shoot first in the Mos Eisley cantina?

Since “A New Hope” came out in 1977, many have argued about if it was Solo or Greedo, one of Jabba the Hut’s henchmen searching for Solo, who shot first in their famous faceoff.

That can now be put to rest by Lucas' answer.

“I was thinking mythologically — should he be a cowboy, should he be John Wayne? And I said, ‘Yeah, he should be John Wayne.’ And when you’re John Wayne, you don’t shoot people [first] — you let them have the first shot. It’s a mythological reality that we hope our society pays attention to," he said.

This is also obvious when looking at how Lucas changed the scene when he did his special edition. Here’s a comparison of it next to the original:

solo greedo

So there you have it, Greedo shot first. Don’t bother emailing George your thoughts.

The 'Seinfeld' cast recorded these awesome birthday wishes for a terminally ill fan

"Seinfeld" superfan Jim Calder died on November 7, a few days shy of his birthday.

Wanting to give his terminally ill father an early birthday gift, Jim's son, James, decided to put together a video of birthday wishes. But besides asking friends and family to wish his father a happy birthday, James got a little more ambitious and decided to reach out to the cast of "Seinfeld."

They were more than happy to participate, and more than a dozen cast members such as Wayne Knight (Newman), Patrick Warburton (David Putty), and Larry Thomas (The Soup Nazi) sent Jim personalized birthday messages, which the younger Calder then compiled on his YouTube page.

Of the four main cast members, Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Elaine) and Michael Richards (Kramer) wished Calder a happy birthday. Richards even reached out with a personal phone call.

"I'm so thrilled and happy to hear how much you've enjoyed 'Seinfeld' along with your family; that's a great joy, so thank you for that," Louis-Dreyfus said in her video. "You have a wonderful son who clearly adores you, so, congratulations on that; you did that very well. And, third, I just wanted to say happy birthday. I hope it's a great one, and I'm wishing you the very best. Have fun."

You can now make donations to the American Cancer Society in Jim Calder's name

Parents are complaining that Pixar's new movie scares the crap out of their kids

"The Good Dinosaur," Pixar's latest movie, was the highest-grossing new release this past weekend, and has won critical praise.

However, parents are taking issue with the film.

Parents are complaining that the movie, marketed as an animated film for kids, is not at all suitable for young children. One parent even wrote that it shouldn't be watched by anyone under the age of 15.

The movie is about a dinosaur that befriends a human boy. While its cute, wide-eyed characters are child-friendly, parents argue that the plot is not.

"Children were crying and leaving the theater. My little one asked me to never see it again," one parent wrote on CommonSenseMedia.com, a site that allows parents to rate activities for children.

Parents are angry about scenes depicting death, vicious dinosaur attacks, and emotionally harrowing events.

"My husband's sleeve was soaked from my 10-year-old's tears, the 2-year-old was terrified, and I could hear the 5- and 8-year-old crying throughout the movie," another parent wrote on the rating site.

"The Good Dinosaur" is not the first Pixar film to deal with death. The movie "Up," released in 2009, was also criticized for its surprisingly dark opening.

Here's how to play the game that's so addictive it's destroying people's sleep cycles

1010!

A few weeks ago, my colleague Jim Edwards wrote about a mobile phone game I'd never heard of before called 1010!.

The mobile phone app from Gram Games, Edwards wrote, "is so addictive it will ruin your life and make your friends hate you."

Instead of taking this as the warning it so clearly was, I was intrigued, and immediately downloaded the game myself.

Weeks later, I'm hopelessly addicted to 1010!. I play it on the subway. I play it in the elevator and when I'm waiting in line to pick up my lunch down the street. It's the same kind of can't-put-it-down addictive feeling you may have gotten when you started playing 2048 or Candy Crush for the first time.

Here's how you play:

SEE ALSO: I Played The Kim Kardashian iPhone Game, And Now I Finally Get It

This is 1010!. You can download it in the App Store. The game was created last year by Gram Games, a Turkish game developer. Almost immediately, it started going viral in Asia.

Here's the homescreen, where you're shown your high score. Power users get ridiculously high scores on 1010! — some past 100,000 points — but if you're playing for the first time, you might not crack 500 points. Don't get too discouraged.

You might initially mistake 1010! for Tetris because the game board looks similar. You're also shown shapes that are similar to those in Tetris. But unlike Tetris, where you're forced to fit falling shapes into complete lines to make them disappear, you control the pace of this game. In 1010! you're shown 3 pieces at a time, and you fit them into the big grid. The goal is to create complete columns and rows. You get points for every complete column or row you create, and after you complete each line, it disappears.

J.J. Abrams says Adam Driver's 'wonderful ferocity' and yelling made him the perfect 'Star Wars' villain Kylo Ren

kylo ren adam driver

To get into his villainous character Kylo Ren in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," Adam Driver would yell before shooting, sometimes resulting in sound guys turning their microphones down.

This "wonderful ferocity" made him "perfect" for the role, director J.J. Abrams revealed during a Sirius XM Town Hall recording with People and Entertainment Weekly editorial director Jess Cagle after being asked which actor was more like their character.

“Adam Driver, there are times when he’s so hard on himself as an actor,” Abrams said. Driver would have to rile himself up as mental preparation.

In a 2014 cover story for GQ, Driver (also from "Girls," "Lincoln," and "Inside Llewyn Davis") is described as having "equal amounts of twitchy intensity and feral grace," applying both his military background and Julliard training to the roles he takes on.

Abrams added that all of the actors, both old and new, "all brought themselves in an incredible way to each of the characters."

The full Sirius XM Town Hall with Abrams will premiere December 14 at 6 p.m. ET on EW Radio Sirius XM 105.

Here's how to find out if your Netflix was hacked — and fix it (NFLX)

$
0

netflix piper orange is the new black season 3Netflix lets multiple people use an account at the same time, and this feature is great when it allows you to mooch off a friend’s account without inconveniencing them.

But one problem with this policy is that it has inadvertently created a black market for “access” to stolen Netflix accounts.

A recent report by McAfee Labs revealed you can buy access to Netflix accounts in “Dark Web” marketplaces, which can only be accessed using a special internet browser called TOR that hides your IP address.

Hackers in these marketplaces are selling lifetime access to Netflix accounts for as little as $0.50. While some of these accounts are likely ones purchased with stolen credit card information, others used hacked login information, Raj Samani, the CTO of Intel Security, told Tech Insider.

And sometimes hackers don't even sell the stolen accounts, but rather, just dump the login credentials on the internet for people to use.

Motherboard writer Rachel Pick came face-to-face with this phenomenon recently when she noticed weird movies and TV shows showing up in her “Recently Watched” section on Netflix. At first, she says she thought it was just a glitch in Netflix, but after reading about the black market for stolen Netflix accounts, she decided to check if hers had been hacked.

The tool she used was haveibeenpwned.com, which gives you a rough idea of whether your personal information has been leaked onto the internet. Pick found that her family’s login info had appeared on Pastebin, a site for dumping plaintext files, in a document with the title “BunchaNetflixAccounts.” The information from 2,400 other users had also been compromised.

While haveibeenpwned.com worked for Pick, it’s not always effective for finding out if you've been hacked, especially if your login is being sold on the "Dark Web."

Luckily there's an easy measure you can take if you think there might even be the possibility you've been hacked. Netflix has a feature that allows you to force all users who are logged into your account to log out. This means everyone with the username and passwords saved gets temporarily booted. Once you've done that, just change your password to keep them out permanently. This also works if you get too many "friends of friends" clogging up your account.

Here is how you do it.

Go to the account page and select "Sign out of all devices."

sign out of all devices step 2 1

You then will be prompted to confirm.

sign out of all devices

After that, all that's left is changing your password so they can't log back in (bear in mind the signing out can take up to eight hours to take effect).

Rambo may make the crossover to television.

Fox just ordered a script for a series revolving around Rambo's son titled "Rambo: New Blood," a Fox representative told Business Insider. The news was reported first by Deadline.

Sylvester Stallone, 69, is attached as an executive producer on the project and it's possible he will reprise the Rambo role he played in the four movies of the film franchise.

Produced by eOne Television in partnership with Millennium Films, the one-hour drama will pay homage to the original “Rambo” films and will explore the complex relationship between Rambo and his son, J.R., an ex-Navy SEAL.

Jeb Stuart, whose many writing credits include the movies "Die Hard" and "The Fugitive," will write the script and executive produce. Original "Rambo" producer Avi Lerner will also serve as an executive producer, with eOne's executive vice president of global production, Carrie Stein, overseeing the project.

Based on the David Morrell novel "First Blood," the four Rambo movies released between 1982 and 2008 collectively earned about $728 million in worldwide box office.

This fall, Fox debuted "Minority Report," based on the Tom Cruise movie. It failed to find an audience and the network ended the series after 10 episodes.

How J.J. Abrams got the creator of hit musical 'Hamilton' to write the new 'Star Wars' cantina song

$

cantinaLin-Manuel Miranda probably has enough on his plate, as his current musical “Hamilton” is a massive hit on Broadway, but director J.J. Abrams revealed on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Monday that Miranda also helped him with music for a specific scene in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

Abrams told Fallon that while he was seeing “Hamilton” with his son, Miranda came up to him during intermission (he was not performing that night) and jokingly said to Abrams, “If you need music for the cantina, I’ll write it.”

What Miranda didn’t know was that Abrams really did need music for the cantina scene he has in the movie, as the legendary composer on the film, John Williams, focused more on the film’s score.

“So I end up e-mailing Lin Miranda and I say, ‘I know you were kidding, but if you actually want to write this music, I’m actually working on something.’ And he said, ‘I’ll drop everything!’”

Abrams and Miranda sent back and forth music files, which included Miranda singing and playing instruments. A version of that collaboration between the two, Abrams said, is now in the movie.

Spotify just unseated Pandora to become the most popular music streaming app in the world

Spotify has knocked Pandora off the throne to become the most popular music streaming in the world, according to a new report from app analytics firm App Annie.

Spotify has come out on top in terms of revenue, active users, and downloads. And App Annie predicts Spotify will only widen the margin even further in the months to come.

This is not good news for Pandora, though the Oakland-based company maintained the top spot for most active users in the US (on iOS and Android).

Pandora's CEO Brian McAndrews recently implied that Spotify had an unsustainable business model, and was burning money in an attempt to build its user base. That strategy seems to be working for Spotify, at least in the short term. McAndrews elaborated on his position in an op-ed published today.

Pandora has seen recent stock troubles after $85.9 million loss last quarter seem to shake investor confidence.

“I was a refugee because of war, and now I have a voice in a time when war is the most invested thing on the planet," she told the Guardian in 2005.

"Borders" shows the arduous journey refugees take when fleeing their homes for safety. The artist directed the music video herself, which is part of the not-yet-released album, "Metadata."

The video is a graphic reminder of the everyday dangers refugees face while fleeing home.

Celebrities have to pay $30k for their own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

$
0
0

Every year, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce selects around 24 celebrities to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

But it's not as simple as that. First, someone has to nominate these celebrities — this could be anyone from a publicist to a wealthy fan. Next, they must obtain that celebrity's consent, as the nominee must sign a form stating that they want a star, and that they will attend the unveiling of it.

If a person's application gets accepted, whoever did the nominating needs to pony up: a star costs $30,000. The Chamber of Commerce claims that half the cost goes into building the star, while the other half is used for upkeep.

Perhaps this is why some of your favorite A-listers — like Julia Roberts, Clint Eastwood, Denzel Washington, and Al Pacino — don't have a star. Either they simply don't want one, or they don't want to spend the cash.

After British anthology series "Black Mirror" arrived to Netflix, it steadily found an American audience, and a rabid one at that. Even one of our greatest assets, Jon Hamm, deigned to star on its Christmas special last year.

Earning comparisons to "The Twilight Zone," "Black Mirror" explores the line between life and tech.

Netflix is producing the next season of "Black Mirror."

"Twin Peaks"

After a rocky start, Showtime is a bit behind on its revival of director David Lynch's "Twin Peaks." That's okay, because it gives you time to really soak in the show's two bizarre and twist-filled seasons before its 2017 launch date.

The two seasons are available now on Netflix.

"Gilmore Girls"

"Gilmore Girls" stars "Parenthood" actress Lauren Graham as Lorelai Gilmore, a young, single mother who's best friends with her daughter, Rory (Alexis Bledel). Daymond John explains why he hates splitting deals with other investors on 'Shark Tank'

$

daymond john

As the caliber of entrepreneurs and their companies appearing on "Shark Tank" has gone up with each new season, the investors have gotten more eager to fiercely compete for a deal.

Sometimes, though, the prospect of getting in on a potentially huge company is so appealing that the Sharks decide to split an investment.

Daymond John usually hates when that happens.

"I don't want to team up with any Shark at any given time, ever," he told LinkedIn executive editor Dan Roth in a recent interview.

The show is appealing to a certain type of entrepreneur because, while a traditional angel or venture capital deal may involve handing over a board seat or advisory role to the investor, a "Shark Tank" deal is essentially for a new business partner who typically takes a decent chunk of equity but promises to be as hands-on as necessary.

Therefore, when multiple Sharks get involved in a single deal, things can get complicated, John told Roth.

"First of all, those other Sharks, they all have egos, they all think that they know everything ... So teaming up with them, you have, 'Who's the chef, who's the cook?'" John said. "Also, it's a little confusing for the entrepreneur."

He does have an exception: "Instead of becoming a Shark, I can become a leech and get a free ride."

When he decides to split a deal, he is conceding the driver's seat, but will happily take a shot at making a profit for less work rather than losing the deal entirely.

He gave Roth an example: He and Mark Cuban are both very interested in a tech company. Cuban, the show's only billionaire, has had a long career in the tech sector and would not only help the entrepreneur with his wisdom but help John, as well. Rather than drive up the price of a deal, John can concede and say, "Hey Mark, come on, why don't you let me in, let me get a free ride on that tech mind of yours."

John told Roth that when he does decide to join a Shark in a deal, "I learn so much from them in their area of expertise."

But as he explained to Business Insider earlier this year, calling a truce with an investor is his last resort; it's not as fun, and it doesn't make him as much money.

"Think about this," he said, "if you ever beat another Shark, these are filthy rich people that not only do you get to embarrass on national television, but you're also making a profit at the same time."

Working with Jennifer Lawrence is as awesome as you'd think, according to 'Hunger Games' producer

Working with Jennifer Lawrence is just as fun as one would imagine, at least according to "Hunger Games" producer Nina Jacobson.

Jacobson answered a question about working with Lawrence on Quora, a Q&A site, and said that Lawrence isn't a method actor, so she doesn't stay in character between takes.

"She can (and does) go from being a total goofball one minute to delivering a jaw-dropping emotional performance the next," Jacobson said. "It's kind of a freak-of-nature thing to watch."

The producer also revealed that Lawrence often hangs out on set because she's close with her co-stars and likes to read.

Jacobson answered questions about what a movie producer does, plus whether it's harder to produce or direct as a woman (she says direct).

"Ultimately, mentorship plays such a big role in breaking directors that successful male directors tend to reach the helping hand to guys who remind them of themselves," she said. "We need more women directors so they can reach out to girls who remind them of themselves. We also need more men to be aware of that tendency so that they can reach out to women who remind them of their sisters or their daughters or who are just talented and don't remind them of anybody."

Matt Drudge is wrong, there is no 'rape' scene with Leonardo DiCaprio and a bear in his new movie

The Revenant

Earlier today, conservative pundit Matt Drudge reported on his site The Drudge Report that Leonardo DiCaprio's upcoming film, "The Revenant," features a graphic scene in which DiCaprio is raped by a wild bear.

But it turns out no such scene exists in the film, several sources who have seen "The Revenant" tell Business Insider.

Film critic Mark Dujsik also took to Twitter to say the scene isn't there:

And other film journalists have similarly said that Drudge's report is false, including Brian Abrams of Death and Taxes.

Over at Vulture, Kyle Buchanan says that while DiCaprio's character is viciously mauled by a bear, there is no raping involved.

Business Insider has asked the distributor, Fox, for comment.

UPDATE: Fox released the following statement saying there is "clearly no rape scene with a bear" in the film:

“As anyone who has seen the movie can attest, the bear in the film is a female who attacks Hugh Glass because she feels he might be threatening her cubs. There is clearly no rape scene with a bear.”

Taylor Swift gave a 12-year-old superfan who's losing her hearing the surprise of a lifetime

Upon receiving the news that she will eventually be deaf, a Taylor Swift superfan's first worry was that she might never hear her favorite singer's music again.

Jorja Hope, a 12-year-old from Australia, has an inner-ear condition that will eventually leave her deaf. The first thing she thought after getting the diagnosis was, "I won't be able to hear Taylor Swift sing," her mother told Australia's Today Show.

Last weekend, Hope's dreams came true when she got to meet Swift at her concert in Sydney. The surprise meeting came after Hope's sister started a Facebook campaign in order to get Hope meet her idol. Her story resulted in an outpouring of local support, and Hope got tickets to the show, as well as a limo ride there, provided free of charge from a local car service.

She told Today that Swift was just as nice in person as she imagined, only taller.
