Quentin Tarantino thinks this young Hollywood starlet could become one of the greatest actresses of all-time

Quentin Tarantino Vivien Killilea

If there's one thing writer/director Quentin Tarantino prides himself on, it's casting the right actor to the right role.

And for his latest movie, "The Hateful Eight," the Oscar-winner considered the highest-paid actress in the world, Jennifer Lawrence, to play the female heroine Daisy in the movie.

“When I was looking for [the character] Daisy, I could have seen Jennifer Lawrence doing a good job with the role,” Tarantino told New York Magazine. “I’m a very big fan of hers. I think she could end up being another little Bette Davis if she keeps on going the way she’s going."

jennifer lawrenceTarantino comparing Lawrence to Davis, one of the greatest actresses of all time (two-time Oscar winner and known for starring in classics like "All About Eve" and "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?"), is quite a compliment. But there was a big reason why the director didn’t go any further on his idea to cast Lawrence.

“Daisy should be a little older,” said Tarantino. “She should fit in with the guys.”

The “guys” he’s referring to are the bounty hunters who are all snowed in with Daisy at a saloon during a blizzard in “The Hateful Eight.” They include veteran actors Kurt Russell, Samuel L. Jackson, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern, Walton Goggins, and Demian Bichir.

Tarantino cast Jennifer Jason Leigh (“Fast Times at Ridgemont High,” “The Anniversary Party”).

“Jennifer Jason Leigh came in and was really good,” Tarantino said. “She went for a couple of things that other people just kind of playacted. She had to act like she got shot, and she just screamed bloody murder. I kept remembering Jennifer’s bloodcurdling scream. If it had happened in a house, somebody would have called the cops.”

Jennifer Jason Leigh The Hateful Eight Andrew CooperYou can't really question Tarantino's choice as his casting track record is impeccable; even casting actors that Hollywood has long thrown aside.

His most famous instance was casting John Travolta in "Pulp Fiction," which gave the actor’s career a full 180. Following his impressive performance, Travolta went on to becoming a bankable lead actor through the rest of the 1990s.

The casting of Leigh isn’t comparable to Travolta’s. Leigh has been working consistently in movies and TV her whole career.

But it's obvious Tarantino toils over finding the right actors for his characters, regardless of their status in the business.

“I actually think my characters are going to be one of my biggest legacies after I’m done,” he told New York Magazine. “So I have no obligation whatsoever other than to just cast it right.”

“The Hateful Eight” will open in theaters on Christmas Day and in wide release on January 8.

A New York City food writer is waging war against Instagram star 'The Fat Jew'

the fat jew

Days after an apologetic interview with Vulture, Josh "The Fat Jewish" Ostrovsky (aka "The Fat Jew") is under fire again.

But the shots aren't coming from Internet meme creators whose work has appeared uncredited on his wildly popular (and lucrative) Instagram account.

This time, the heat is coming from someone who actually plays with fire, a respected test kitchen cook.

Kenji López-Alt, the managing culinary director of the website Serious Eats, posted a message on Facebook yesterday, saying that himself and his publication had withdrawn from the New York City Wine & Food Festival's "Late-Night Ramen Party" (Oct. 17) because Ostrovsky had suddenly been added as its host.

Since the post went up, four restaurants (Jin Ramen, Ivan Ramen, Yuji Ramen, Mu Ramen) and one artisan noodle maker (Sun Ramen) have reportedly backed out of the event.

In the Facebook statement, López-Alt says he found out that Ostrovsky would be hosting the event (which López-Alt and his team had been organizing for months) on the Internet.

Here's an excerpt from his Facebook post

"I opened up the event's official website and saw not the event we'd been planning, but The Fat Jew's ramen party. His face, his name, all listed above ours, despite the fact that we were neither consulted nor alerted to his involvement in the event.

The Fat Jew is the antithesis of everything I represent in the media world ... He is a plagiarist, a thief, a misogynist, and absolutely the wrong choice of co-host for a food event, or really any respectable event."

López-Alt went on to link to articles about Ostrovsky's "plagiarist" Instagram account, as well as a video showing his alleged sexual harassment of an internIn his interview with Vulture, Ostrovky said that he's working to retroactively attribute all of his social media posts featuring memes or creative works that aren't his own.

New York's Grub Street reports that more than half of the event's tickets ($150 each) had been sold prior to Ostrovsky's involvement. All net proceeds of the event benefit Food Bank For New York City and the No Kid Hungry campaign.

Writes López-Alt, "I'm 100% certain [the event] will be sold out, thus the charities will still be receiving as much support as if we'd stayed or not."

Model and soon-to-be cookbook author Chrissy Teigen was the original host of the event, but she canceled for reasons unknown and Ostrovky took her place.

Business Insider contacted Ostrovsky, López-Alt, and the New York City Wine & Food Festival for a comment. We'll update this story if we hear from any of the parties involved.

'Burning Man: The Musical' might happen, and it's about a young entrepreneur's adventure after he takes mushrooms in the desert

Burning Man musical

Burning Man — the annual week-long counterculture festival that attracts techies, raving hipsters, strange art, and burning effigies — has evolved to become one of Silicon Valley's go-to social networking spots.

Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk, and Jeff Bezos have made pilgrimages to the Nevada desert and lived lavishly in VIP supertents that boast WiFi, pool tables, and top notch chefs.

And just when you thought things couldn't get more bizarre, a team of people are trying to honor that intersection of festival goers and techies by creating Burning Man: The Musical

The plot is about Joe, a young entrepreneur portrayed by Travis Kent, who hopes to become a multimillionaire. He jumps at a chance to make this a reality by crashing one of the elite Burning Man campsites. He eats a few magic mushrooms before venturing into the desert and adventure ensues.

Matt Werner, a technical writer at Google, created an Indiegogo campaign to raise $20,000 from the rest of the world so that the musical can become reality. The team behind the musical is a mixed bag of veteran "Burners" (people who have attended Burning Man), writers, singers, and a crew complete with producers and directors.

The crew is releasing little chunks of songs here and there throughout the course of the Indigogo campaign.

The production's opening number shows Burners prancing around in costume, juxtaposed against the suit-and-tie self-starters of a Silicon Valley office. You can watch it here

NBC's Matt Lauer to Donald Trump: Do you have a 'schoolyard crush' on Megyn Kelly?

Screen Shot 2015 08 26 at 7.19.37 AM

"Today" show host Matt Lauer asked Donald Trump on Wednesday if he secretly has a "crush" on the journalist he has attacked the most: Fox News' Megyn Kelly.

"It starts to sound a little bit — and take this the right way, Donald — like you're a guy with a schoolyard crush. Where we're in elementary school or junior-high school, guys often say the meanest things about the girls they like the most," Lauer said.

Trump, a real-estate magnate and GOP presidential candidate, insisted that was not the case.

"Trust me, Matt. There is no crush. That I can tell you," he replied.

Trump has repeatedly gone out of his way to criticize Kelly since she moderated the first prime-time debate of the presidential race. Kelly asked Trump a series of questions he later described as unfair, including one about derogatory comments he has made toward women.

Most recently, Trump leveled a number of broadsides against Kelly on Monday night, after she just returned from a vacation. Among other things, Trump declared that "The Kelly File" show was better without her and shared a message on Twitter that called her a "bimbo."

But Trump denied to Lauer that Kelly has somehow bothered him to an extreme level.

"You tweet a few tweets — or retweets, in this case — that's not getting under your skin. I personally am not a fan. I don't think she does a good job. I don't think she's a very good professional. And I think, frankly, the show's better without her. But that's up to them, and they can do whatever they want," he said.

He nevertheless continued to blast her supposedly biased moderation of the debate.

"During the debate, she asked me questions that were totally inappropriate. Other people asked nice questions about jobs, about God, about other things," he said. "And she hits me with questions that were totally inappropriate. A lot of people said that."

Screen Shot 2015 08 26 at 7.52.39 AM

After Trump's tweets on Monday, Fox News appeared to end the previous ceasefire it struck with the real-estate developer. That truce was brokered on August 10, when Fox News Chairman and CEO Roger Ailes reached out to Trump following a particularly controversial comment he made about Kelly that was widely interpreted as a sexist reference to menstruation.

At the time, both sides indicated that they had buried the hatchet. However, with the latest salvo, it seems the feud is back on.

"Donald Trump's surprise and unprovoked attack on Megyn Kelly during her show last night is as unacceptable as it is disturbing," Ailes said in a Tuesday statement. "Megyn Kelly represents the very best of American journalism, and all of us at Fox News Channel reject the crude and irresponsible attempts to suggest otherwise."

But Trump said on Wednesday that he still holds Ailes in high regard.

"I respect Roger Ailes. He can do whatever he wants," he told Lauer. "I don't care."

Bruce Willis may have been fired from Woody Allen's latest movie

Bruce Willis has dropped out of Woody Allen's latest movie, according to Deadline. And it may not have been his choice.

The film, which is untitled, stars an ensemble cast including Blake Lively, Kristen Stewart ("Twilight"), and Jesse Eisenberg ("The Social Network").

According to the Deadline story, Willis had to bow out because of a scheduling conflict. He has plans to star in a coming Broadway adaptation of Stephen King's classic novel "Misery."

But the same day that news broke, photos surfaced of Willis on the set of Allen's movie in Beverly Hills, California.

Now some have questioned whether Willis' exit really was due to a scheduling conflict. Actor availability is often worked out before cameras start rolling, and The Wrap's Jeff Sneider tweeted that Willis was actually fired.

This is not the first time Allen has let an actor go during production. Allen has been known to recast in the middle of shooting. As The Playlist points out:

Christopher Walken and Sam Shepard both were filmed playing the role of Peter in 'September' before ultimately being replaced by Sam Waterston. Michael Keaton was replaced by Jeff Daniels after ten days of shooting 'The Purple Rose Of Cairo.' Juliette Lewis replaced Emily Lloyd in 'Husbands and Wives' after some footage was shot.

And there have been stories for years about how difficult Willis is to work with. Director Kevin Smith was so fed up with Willis' behavior he went public, dedicating a chapter in his memoir, "Tough Sh-t," about how awful it was to work with Willis on the film "Cop Out."

"He turned out to be the unhappiest, most bitter, and meanest emo-bitch I've ever met at any job I've held down," Smith wrote. "And mind you, I've worked at Domino's Pizza."

Willis was also cut from "The Expendables 3" after a contract dispute. This led the franchise's star, Sylvester Stallone, to tweet this:

Regardless of why Willis left, Allen is recasting and production on the movie will not be delayed, according to Deadline.

Willis' reps told Business Insider that the Deadline story is accurate and have no further comment.

Drake is about to release America's next big hit — here's why it's going to skyrocket

$

Drake

Drake is no stranger to going big.

This past February, the Toronto-based rapper tied the Beatles for the most records simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 — 14 of them — 10 of which were from one album.

That number put Drake's grand total at 85 hits, placing him 5th of all time.

Since then, he's done nothing but win.

His most recent project became the first million-selling album of 2015, he won the rap battle of the year, and has a radio station playing only his music.

Now the stage is set for Drake to go even bigger.

Last month, while in the midst of a beef with rapper Meek Mill, Drake released a song called "Hotline Bling" on Apple Music's Beats 1 radio.

The song — which has only had minimal exposure via SoundCloud, streaming services, and iTunes — has already climbed to the No. 34 spot on Billboard's Hot 100 in less than a month. It moved up 23 spots just last week.

Now there are reports that Drake plans to make a radio push for the song, a move that would no doubt catapult "Hotline Bling" to the top of the charts in short order — especially since mainstream radio listeners most likely haven't heard it yet.

The song has all the ingredients of a smash radio hit. Its catchy beat and lyrics set it up for great success. And, of course, Drake's stock is up at the moment, so that amplifies just about any move the artist makes.

What's more, the song sounds like the "old" Drake. Unlike material the rapper has released recently, "Hotline Bling" is a relaxed tune; a minimalist, mid-tempo track that features just singing, much like Drake's hit 2013 single, "Hold On We're Going Home."

Though there has yet to be a radio release, "Hotline Bling" has gotten tons of love on Twitter:

Though there is no official word about when the song will hit the radio, it was recently removed from SoundCloud, which makes the jump seem fairly imminent. There's also no official word whether or not "Hotline Bling" will be part of Drake's upcoming album, "Views From The 6." But, perhaps that speaks to just how good he actually is.

'She was the most radiant woman I ever met': Boyfriend of reporter killed during broadcast posts touching tribute

Two television journalists were fatally shot during a live television interview in Virginia Wednesday morning, according to the journalists' station, WDBJ7.

WDBJ7, in Roanoke, Virginia, said reporter Alison Parker, 24, and cameraman Adam Ward, 27, died in the attack.

After news of their deaths broke, Parker's boyfriend, WDBJ evening co-anchor Chris Hurst, 28, took to social media to reveal the couple's secret relationship and post a touching tribute to his serious girlfriend of nine months.

We didn't share this publicly, but Alison Parker and I were very much in love. We just moved in together. I am numb. We were together almost nine months. It was the best nine months of our lives. We wanted to get married. We just celebrated her 24th birthday. She was the most radiant woman I ever met. And for some reason she loved me back. She loved her family, her parents and her brother. I am comforted by everyone at WDBJ7. We are a family. She worked with Adam every day. They were a team. I am heartbroken for his fiancee. She is our morning show producer. This is unconscionable. But I WILL share her story because it is one full of life, dreams, love and amazing journalism. She just finished working on an incredible special on child abuse and it was fantastic. We will get through this and there will be justice. Your thoughts and prayers mean the world to me.

Kimberly McBroom, anchorwoman of WDBJ7's "Mornin'" newscast, said during Wednesday morning's broadcast: "We've lost two members of our family. [Others have] lost a daughter, a son, a fiancé."

Ward was engaged to WDBJ producer Melissa Ott, and the two were planning to leave the Roanoke area in the near future.

Officials have identified the gunman as a disgruntled former WDBJ employee, Vester Lee Flanagan, who went by the name Bryce Williams at the TV station. Disturbing videos of the attack were posted to social-media accounts linked to Flanagan, whom the police said they found with a life-threatening gunshot wound after they confronted him on the highway.

Last updated (1:40 p.m.): With more information on the suspect in the shooting.

still of kirsten dunst in bring it on

It was 15 years ago this week that we first realized we weren't living in a democracy. We are living in a cheerocracy, though sometimes it can feel like a cheertatorship.

That's just one of the many gifts "Bring It On" gave the world when it premiered in theaters on August 25, 2000.

"Bring It On" once again proved to a increasingly cynical young generation that winning wasn't everything and finding a girl who could do gymnastics was. And in the end, we can all be friends -- even with the cheer team from the financially challenged part of town.

The movie would go on to make about $90 million in worldwide box office -- not too shabby for a film made for $10 million. Even better, it would become a cult classic, spawn four TV series, and cemented its stars' careers.

What are the stars up to 15 years later? Let's find out.

The bizarre way Kate Winslet landed the lead female role in the new Steve Jobs movie (AAPL)

Kate-Winslet

Kate Winslet is set to play Joanna Hoffman — one of Apple's earliest employees who was known for standing up to Steve Jobs — in the new movie about the legendary Apple cofounder's life.

The movie, which includes a star-studded cast that features Michael Fassbender as Steve Jobs and Seth Rogen as Steve Wozniak, is set to debut on Oct. 9.

In a recent interview with Vulture, Winslet explained how she landed the role. The actress was interested in the role as soon as she heard about the film from her hair-and-makeup artist, who was set to work on the movie after she had finished working with Winslet on "The Dressmaker." The fact that the film was written by Andrew Sorkin was enough to draw Winslet in, but she was also intrigued by the movie's three-act format.

Winslet decided to move on the opportunity right away, but there was one hurdle: she looks nothing like Hoffman, the Polish-Armenian immigrant that served as the only marketing person on the original Mac team for more than a year.

So, to audition for the role, she sent her husband out to purchase dark brown wigs in varying lengths. She took photos of herself in the wigs and sent them over to Scott Rudin, the film's producer.

Here's how she described the process to Vulture:

So I put a wig on my head and scrubbed my face of all makeup. I took one photograph of myself, and, lucky me, I have an email address of one Mr. Scott Rudin, and I just sent him the photo with no subject. Soon there’s this call saying, okay, okay, can Danny come and meet with Kate in Australia? And I’m like, “Holy f--k, what have I started?” They sent me the script, and immediately I thought, This is amazing, I really want to play this part. I had the meeting with Danny, and I just said, “This is how I would play this part, this is who I believe that she is,” and he said, “I want you to play this part.” So then cut to three and a half weeks later, I’m in a rehearsal room in San Francisco. We rehearsed each act like a play and then filmed it in order from start to finish.

An insane 'Game of Thrones' theory just resurfaced and fans are losing their minds

$
0
0

Jon Snow

Warning: this post contains spoilers for "Game of Thrones," including speculation of future events.

Buckle in "Game of Thrones" fans, there's a new fan theory circulating online, and this one might throw you for a loop.

It starts with an older theory, one that claims Ned Stark is not Jon Snow's real father. Known as R + L = J, the conjecture states Jon is the love-child of Prince Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, Ned's sister. Book readers began discussing this idea online as far back as 2006, as evidenced from this thread. The evidence for this is aplenty, as you can see in many postsaround the web. If this reveal (which would mean that Jon is heir to the Iron Throne and Daenerys Targaryen's nephew) isn't enough to blow your mind, now there's a new twist:

Jon may have had a twin.

On Tuesday, Redditor ghostchief posted a season six opening scene prediction, which outlined a dramatic scene with Ned Stark rushing to the bedside of his sister painfully giving birth to Jon:

A baby's cry rings out as the septa raises a boy and walks him over to the man and woman.
The dialogue swells and clarifies to her voice, "Promise me, Ned."
Her eyes slowly close.
Ned begins to sob.
He raises his head to sound another high pitch noise coming from the foot of the bed.
A baby girl

The baby boy in the sequence would be Jon, who Lyanna asks Ned to protect before dying from birthing complications. But the twist is the "baby girl" — who is she? The thread does not help much with identifying who Jon's twin is. However, theories that align with this idea have been in circulation for a few years.

Meera Reed, one of the companions who has been helping Bran Stark on his journey north, might be this baby girl.

Meera Reed HBO Game of thrones

This 2012 post to "A Forum of Ice and Fire" elaborates on the idea: "What if Ned had Howland take Meera back to Greywater Watch to raise Meera as his own and Ned took Jon back to Winterfell to raise because bringing two bastards back would seem suspicious?"

Confused? Let's back up a bit.

In the first book, "A Game of Thrones," Ned Stark has a flashback to a scene known as the "Tower of Joy." Years ago in Westeros, a war was started when the prince, Rhaegar Targaryen, allegedly kidnapped and raped Lyanna Stark — sister of Ned Stark and the promised wife to Robert Baratheon.

The Starks and Baratheons teamed up with other houses to fight and defeat the ruling Targaryen family, killing Rhaegar in the process. After the war ended, Ned went to rescue his sister from the Tower of Joy where she had been living. His only companion on the rescue mission was a man named Howland Reed.

It is widely believed that Lyanna not only went willingly with Rhaegar, but that she was pregnant with his child (or as the topical theory suggests, children). Jon and Meera.

In Ned's flashback, he recalls Lyanna in a "bed of blood" which many take to mean that something went wrong during labor. She dies, but not before begging Ned to promise her something. If Lyanna did produce Targaryen babies, they would be in imminent danger from Robert Baratheon and the other enemies of the Targaryen family.

So it makes sense that Ned would lie, claiming Jon as his own in order to protect him. If there was a twin, she would have undoubtedly been handed over to his only trusted friend present — Howland Reed.

Meera was introduced to readers (and viewers) as Howland Reed's daughter. As noted in Bill Bradley's Huffington Post report on this theory, Meera and Jon Snow look very similar on the show.

Meera Reed Jon Snow Game of Thrones

The resemblance is due mostly to their dark, curly hair and penchant for wearing fur, but the similarity is there for those that want to believe this theory.

The evidence goes beyond just looks, though. One of the posts from a few years back summed up support for Meera's uncovered identity, comparing her to the other Stark children:

Meera was born in the same year as Robb and Jon, and we know nothing whatsoever about her mother...Meera's physical description is very similar to Lyanna's and Arya's. She's slim and flat-chested, attractive without being traditionally beautiful...The odds of Lyanna dying in childbirth seem more likely if she had twins.

Not everyone is on board with this idea though. Lots of "it's too Star Wars" comments have been made, alluding to the Luke and Leia secret-twin twist that came in the iconic series. More than one Redditor referred to the theory as "solid tinfoil," dismissing the idea as creative but too outlandish to be true.

But others are convinced. According to the Huffington Post's poll, 78% of viewers agree that it's might be true.

No matter where you stand, all "Game of Thrones" fans can agree that this is a fun possibility.

Frequently accused of disrespecting women, Beynon has worked as a model and a professional soccer player in the past. He's also an heir to an Australian tobacco fortune. But he's most famous for his notorious Instagram feed, where he posts photos of parties at his "Candyshop Mansion" as well as models in bikinis. He's accumulated 362,000 followers on the platform.

You might remember him from the time he "walked" his wife and her friend, pretending their bikini straps were leashes. Even Bilzerian himself questioned that stunt.

Both the Daily Mail and a German news site called Bild have the details on Beynon's reality show. Currently, not much is known, but the show's working title is "The Candyman Can." It's expected to shoot throughout Europe and in Australia. We've reached out to Beynon's camp for more details but have yet to hear back.

USA pushing 'Mr. Robot' finale because a scene is similar to this morning's journalist shooting

USA Network is pushing Wednesday's finale airing of "Mr. Robot," because of a scene that is similar to the tragic shooting deaths in Virginia.

A network representative issued the following statement to Business Insider:

"The previously filmed season finale of Mr. Robot contains a graphic scene similar in nature to today’s tragic events in Virginia. Out of respect to the victims, their families and colleagues, and our viewers, we are postponing tonight’s episode. Our thoughts go out to all those affected during this difficult time."

The season finale will air in its entirety next Wednesday, September 2 at 10 p.m. An encore of the penultimate episode of "Mr. Robot" will air Wednesday at 10 p.m. instead of the finale episode.

It's unclear how closely the scene is reminiscent of Wednesday morning's events, in which a gunman killed a reporter and her cameraman while airing a live interview.

WDBJ7, based in Roanoke, Virginia, said reporter Alison Parker, 24, and cameraman Adam Ward, 27, died in the attack.

The suspect in the shooting, Vester Lee Flanagan, who went by the name Bryce Williams on air, previously worked as a reporter at WDBJ-TV. Flanagan was fired and still held deep anger over the incident.

Flanagan, 41, shot himself as the police confronted him on the highway, according to police, and the Washington Post confirmed that he died at a hospital at 1:26 p.m.

On "Mr. Robot," Christian Slater's mysterious hacker character, "Mr. Robot," hopes to free Americans from the oppression of debt.

calvin harrisCalvin Harris has had a big year.

This spring he started dating pop star Taylor Swift, and for the third year in a row he's been ranked No. 1 among the world's top 10 highest-paid DJs, according to Forbes.

DJ salaries featured on the Forbes list are based on musical earnings and endorsements over the past 12 months.

Harris' tally is a staggering $66 million, which is actually the same figure as last year.

He beat the second highest-paid DJ, David Guetta, whose salary totaled $37 million, by over $25 million.

Back in 2013, Harris raked in a reported $46 million, so for the past two years he's maintained his $20 million leap.

The 31-year-old Scottish DJ dropped his chart-topping LP, “Motion,” last October and is the new face of Emporio Armani.

“The rise of dance music has been astronomical … I happened to be in the right place at the right time,” Harris said in his interview with Forbes.

Harris also beat Tiësto, whose $36 million income earned him third place.

As a duo, Swift and Harris have replaced Jay Z and Beyonce as music’s highest-earning couple this year. Together they bring in a total of $146 million, compared to Jay Z and Beyonce's $110.5 million.

71% of top music executives think Jay Z's streaming service Tidal will die within a year

jay zJay Z's music streaming service, Tidal, has had a rocky few months since he bought it for $56 million in March.

For Tidal, traction has been hard to come by. And now some 71% of top music executives have lost faith in the streaming service, saying they believe the company will fold in a year or less, Billboard reports.

The company’s valuation spiked to a reported $250 just a month after Jay Z acquired it, but his efforts to brand it as an artists’ platform seem to have largely failed to move the public.

An impressive roster of artists has joined Jay Z in supporting Tidal, including big names like Coldplay, Daft Punk, Alicia Keys, Calvin Harris, Madonna, Usher, and Rihanna. But having blockbuster artists on your side doesn’t mean you are friendly those who aren’t superstars — or can convince people that you are.

Adding to Jay Z’s woes has been the public’s seeming apathy toward Tidal’s original prime selling point: high-fidelity audio. The $20 per month subscription has been regarded as too expensive for many customers, and its (“normal”) $10 per month service faces heavy competition from Spotify and Apple Music.

Billboard anonymously polled more than 50 top music executives on their outlook on Tidal, and a devastating 71% thought the company would fail within a year. Another 17% thought it would survive for one to two years, and only 12% thought it would be part of the industry for the long haul.

Tidal has seen a string of high-profile departures since it was acquired. Andy Chen, the CEO who oversaw the acquisition, left a few weeks after it was sold, and his replacement, Peter Tonstad, only lasted until June. More recently, Tidal's US sales and marketing manager, David Solomon, and senior vice president of label and artist relations, Zena Burns, both quit. Burns left after just two months at the company.

Univision's CEO just ripped into Donald Trump

Donald Trump

Univision CEO Randy Falco just ripped into billionaire real estate mogul and presidential candidate Donald Trump, calling his behavior "beneath contempt."

Falco released the statement in response to an incident that occurred during a press conference on Tuesday between Trump and Univision news anchor Jorge Ramos.

During the conference, Ramos repeatedly attempted to question Trump's controversial plans for immigration reform, but was unceremoniously cut off and escorted out of the room.

Trump and Univision, the biggest Spanish-language network in the US, have been at odds for much of Trump's months-long presidential campaign.

Falco warned that Trump "is going to get tough questions from the press and has to answer them," and scolded the candidate for treating Ramos, a renowned news veteran, with "disregard for him and for the countless Hispanics whom Jorge seeks to represent through press questions that are at the heart of the First Amendment."

Trump and Falco have been at war ever since Trump's campaign announcement in June, during which he used unsavory language to describe Mexican immigrants. Since then, the network has bowed out of any further coverage of the Miss USA pageant, to which Trump responded with a lawsuit.

Though the Republican candidate has so far avoided any meaningful backlash over his controversial statements, his confrontation with Ramos Tuesday night was widely seen as a potentially damning mistake because Ramos, who works for both Fusion and Univision, has the ear of millions of Hispanic viewers.

Nielsen data cited by the Los Angeles Times show the news program, "Noticiero Univison," which Ramos has anchored since 1986, boasts 2 million viewers per night.

You can read Falco's full statement below:

The recent treatment that Jorge Ramos received at Mr. Trump’s press conference in Iowa is beneath contempt. As a Presidential candidate, Mr. Trump is going to get tough questions from the press and has to answer them. Jorge Ramos is one of the most professional, dedicated and respected journalists I have seen or worked with in my 40 years in media. He always asks hard questions of candidates and elected officials, regardless of party or issue. Mr. Trump demonstrated complete disregard for him and for the countless Hispanics whom Jorge seeks to represent through press questions that are at the heart of the First Amendment. I remain grateful for the first-rate journalistic work that Jorge and all of his news colleagues at Univision and Fusion do to bring all points of view to the 57 million Hispanics in this country.

50 Cent is putting his 50,000-square-foot palace back on the market

50 centRapper Curtis Jackson, a.k.a. "50 Cent," is putting his massive 50,000-square-foot home in Farmington, Connecticut back on the market, the Hartford Courant reported Wednesday.

50 Cent bought the property from boxer Mike Tyson in 2003.

The report comes more than a month after the hip-hop mogul filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

The mansion, which the "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" rapper has been trying to sell since 2007, boasts a jaw-dropping 21 bedrooms, 24 bathrooms — and costs him $72,000 per month to maintain.

The home also has a dance club inside, a helipad on top, a huge gym, massive pool, and basketball courts both inside and out.

The original 2007 listing priced the house at $18.5 million, but it dropped steadily over the next five years. According to the Courant, Jackson was trying to lease the property to raise money.

In May, Forbes listed 50 Cent's net worth at $155 million, but the July bankruptcy filing told a different story. The rapper apparently has $108,000 per month coming out of his pocket for expenses and lawsuits. He even tricked the world into believing he was way richer than he actually is, a fact he came clean about during his bankruptcy case.

The rapper currently owes $7 million to a woman named Lastonia Leviston who won the payment in court after 50 Cent released a sex tape of her to the public as payback to his nemesis, Rick Ross, who fathered a child with Leviston.

50 Cent also owes an $18 million court-ordered payment to Sleek Audio after a partnership to produce headphones failed. The filings total $25 million, the same amount 50 Cent claims in assets.

Business Insider did report, however, that the rapper has $10 million in cash and $500,000 in cars, as well as multiple endorsement deals and ongoing business ventures.

Take a tour of the luxurious mansion 50 Cent is selling here.
