NBC's search for Donald Trump's 'Celebrity Apprentice' replacement is underway

The search to replace Donald Trump as host of "Celebrity Apprentice" is still underway at NBC.

The network is sticking to its decision to cut ties with the Republican presidential candidate after he said some controversial statements about Mexican immigrants.

With a return date still to be decided, NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt discussed the hunt for a new host during Thursday's Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills, according to Variety.

“We're obviously looking for a host of that show that will make noise and will be a big personality," Greenblatt said. "There are a few people out there that fit that bill."

Greenblatt said the show will probably return in the 2016-2017 season.

robert greenblatt donald trump nbc tcaIt's also unlikely any of Trump's children would be involved with the show going forward.

Before Trump's immigration comments, NBC had renewed "Celebrity Apprentice" in February for an eighth season, a 15th season if you count the entire "Apprentice" run. Last season, in which on-air personality Leeza Gibbons triumphed, "Celebrity Apprentice" averaged 7.6 million viewers— its best run since 2012.

It's not the ideal scenario, as the only other time "The Apprentice" was hosted by someone other than Trump, 2005's "The Apprentice: Martha Stewart," it premiered to just 7.1 million viewers or half of Trump's "Apprentice" viewership at the time.

Although the network said it was "ending its relationship" with Trump back in June, Greenblatt seemed to backpedal a bit on that statement.

“I don’t think somebody who is running for President and might possibly be the next leader of the free world should be banned from activity with NBC,” he said, then adding, “At the moment, we’re sort of separated.”

But as far as Trump's return to “Celebrity Apprentice," Greenblatt sounded resolute.

“I’m going to end this with two words,” he said. “Absolutely not.”

Update 4:26 p.m. ET: Trump took to his Twitter account to respond to Greenblatt's statements.

It comes as no surprise that a hotel owned by a professional tennis player is home to one of the world's most scenic tennis courts. But on top of that personal touch, the 19th-century brick mansion is also a stone's throw from where the tennis great grew up: In fact, his family used to go there for special occasions when he was younger, and both Andy and his brother got married on its grounds.

Its 34 acres, in stereotypical Scottish fashion, include a loch, as well as an herb and vegetable garden and a croquet lawn, and the hotel offers classes in falconry and archery.

The CW wants to turn the tear-jerker movie 'The Notebook' into its next hit TV series

The CW is hoping to turn Nicholas Sparks' best-selling novel "The Notebook" and the movie it inspired into a scripted TV series.

The president of The CW, Mark Pedowitz, elaborated on the hypothetical show at the Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills Tuesday morning, according to Entertainment Weekly.

The TV show will be based off of the 2004 tear-jerker movie starring Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling. It will follow the pair's relationship overtime with all its ups and downs and it will touch on the societal issues of the times (the book was based in the 1940s).

Gosling and McAdams may not be back to star in it, but if the show gets picked up by the network Nicholas Sparks himself would be executive producer.

And actually, it may be good to have a fresh cast instead of Gosling and McAdams on set. Apparently, there were some chemistry issues with the duo when the 2004 movie was being filmed. The pair spent a chunk of time screaming at each other in a trailer trying to work out their differences, so they could be cordial on set.

Amy Schumer explains why all her skirts in 'Trainwreck' were uncomfortably short

If you feared seeing more than you wanted of Amy Schumer in "Trainwreck" due to her short skirts and dresses, then mission accomplished on their part (and you weren't alone).

"The costume designer, Lisa Evans, on this movie, it was her idea to make everything just a little too short, just slightly, just so you’re uncomfortable," Schumer told Melbourne's KIIS 101.

Just don't mistake the high hemlines for "skanky." Schumer isn't having that, which the aforementioned KIIS 101 interviewers found out.

amy schumer trainwreck walk of shame

Evans, the costume designer, also took issue with Schumer's character being reduced to being "skanky."

"Her character is a girl that, on occasion, gets dressed up in an overly sexy way and on occasion gets dressed up in a really sweet way and a lot of things in between," she told The Huffington Post.

After all, there was some really grounded reasoning to show so much of Schumer's leg.

"She doesn't realize what she's doing," Evans described. "She's kind of throwing it together and has skewed her personal and professional lives together. She stays out too late and she has 10 minutes to get dressed and she runs to the office, and maybe it's a skirt that she would normally wear out to a bar or to a club, but instead she's wearing it to work with a blazer -- the lines were blurred."

Schumer said the character reminds her of herself as a college sophomore a decade ago.

"I was in a lot of pain," Schumer, 34, told the radio station. "I was spreading myself too thin. I was drinking a lot and then I just realized how destructive it was."

Ariel Winter, 17, has grown up in the public eye. When she was 11, she was cast as Alex Dunphy on ABC's "Modern Family." At the time, she looked like an ordinary pre-teen:

But a few years later, she matured and suddenly looked much older than her age. "I was 15 years old with [size] F [breasts], Winter told Glamour's Jessica Radloff. "How do you navigate that?"

"I remember being in my sister's wedding and being so flat and thinking, 'I just wish I could grow boobs!' And then overnight I did,” Winter said in the interview. "But then they kept growing and growing and growing, and it didn't seem like they were going to stop."

Winter says her new image attracted a lot of unwanted attention from the media.  Instead of focusing on her career, press outlets started commenting on her outfits and chest size.

"It made me feel really uncomfortable because as women in the industry, we are totally over sexualized and treated like objects.

As women in the industry, we are totally over sexualized and treated like objects

Every article that has to do with me on a red carpet always had to do with ‘Ariel Winter’s Crazy Cleavage!’ Or ‘Ariel Winter Shows Huge Boobs At An Event!’ That’s all people would recognize me by, not, “Oh, she does great work on 'Modern Family.'"

Even though she appeared confident on the red carpet, Winter says finding good-fitting clothes was always a struggle, her image kept her from being cast in age-appropriate roles, and she felt self-conscious.

"I'm an actress, [acting confident is] what we do,” she told the magazine. "But on the inside, I wasn't feeling so happy."

In June, Winter decided to do something about her body image and got breast reduction surgery.

Now that Winter has gone down a few sizes, she says she feels like she looks the way she was always "supposed to." And she hopes her decision will influence other young girls with similar confidence issues.

"It’s something that I did to better my life and better my health and I think that that can benefit a lot of young girls," she tells Glamour. "I have felt more happy with myself than I ever have."

training day movie cbs

The 2001 cop drama "Training Day," starring Denzel Washington as a crooked LA cop and Ethan Hawke as his rookie partner is one step closer to coming to television.

CBS has ordered a pilot from "Training Day” director Antoine Fuqua and producer Jerry Bruckheimer, Variety reported.

Fuqua will executive produce and direct the pilot. The series would take place 15 years after the events in the movie, set in the LAPD with the rookie cop being black and the veteran corrupt cop being white.

The movie followed a day in the life of Jake Holt (Hawke) as he goes through a training course with a rogue narcotics officer (Washington). Written by David Ayer (director of "Suicide Squad"), Washington’s performance led to a Best Actor Oscar win.

Fuqua’s latest movie, “Southpaw,” recently opened in theaters. His next movie, a remake of “The Magnificent Seven,” will be released in September 2016.

CBS has already adapted two movies for TV: "Rush Hour" and "Limitless."

Here’s the ’Straight Outta Compton’ casting call that everybody thought was racist

$

Straight Outta Compton 2 Jaimie Trueblood.JPG

Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, and Eazy-E — that's who most people reflect on when they think about 1980s rap group, N.W.A.

Many feel that "Straight Outta Compton," the film documenting the group's rise, got the casting just about right.

Ice Cube is played by his son, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Dr. Dre is played by Corey Hawkins, and Eazy-E is played by Jason Mitchell.

But one casting call for the film posted in July last year raised some eyebrows because many thought it to be incredibly racist.

At the time, Sande Alessi Casting posted the notice on several social media platforms in search of different types of women to be extras in the film.

In the post, the company classified the girls they were looking for into four categories: A, B, C, and D girls.

The "A-Girls," according to the company, are "the hottest of the hottest," and could be "black, white, Asian, Hispanic, Mid-Eastern, or mixed race too."

But then, the company got particularly specific about the types of girls it was looking for.

"B-Girls," as the company described them, were "Fine girls, long natural hair, really nice bodies. Small waists, nice hips." Skin color was limited to "light-skinned ... Beyonce is a prototype here."

Further down the list, the casting call got even more selective.

"C-Girls" were described as "African American girls, light-to-medium skin tone with a weave."

"D-Girls" were to be "African American girls. Poor, not in good shape. Medium-to-dark skin tone."

The posting was removed from all social media shortly after it was posted. The casting company told Jet Magazine last July that the categorization of the girls "is not by any means a ranking of A is better than B." Adding, "We obviously don’t want to leave anything up that’s offensive to people."

The company later said it would use a different method to cast women as extras.

As the film's release date nears, posts from last July — when the casting call was originally published — have re-surfaced on social media:

Universal Pictures, the company that produced the film, slammed the offensive casting call in a statement: "The filmmakers did not approve and do not condone the information in this casting notice," they said. "We regret and sincerely apologize for being in any way associated with the offensive descriptions it contained."

Business Insider has reached out to Universal Pictures for comment on how the casting process was changed.

"Straight Outta Compton" is not the first film to be called out for questionably racist casting. But this instance raises questions about where the line is drawn with regard to casting practices.

A casting call for "The Hobbit" in 2010 was panned for requiring potential applicants to have "light skin tones." The casting agent was fired.

Here's a transcipt of the entire "Straight Outta Compton" casting call, via Gawker.

"Straight Outta Compton" releases in theaters Friday, August 14.

A physicist blew the controversy behind this iconic American photo wide open again:

Legendary_kiss_V–J_day_in_Times_Square_Alfred_Eisenstaedt (1)

For 67 years, the identity of the two kissers in one of America's most celebrated photos — the "V-J Day in Times Square" or simply "The Kiss" — remained a complete mystery.

The photo was taken by Life Magazine photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt in Times Square in New York City on August 14, 1945 — a day that Americans will forever remember as the "Victory over Japan Day" when Japan surrendered, putting an end to World War II.

In 2012 the book "The Kissing Sailor: The Mystery Behind the Photo that Ended World War II" identified that sailor as George Mendonsa and the nurse as Greta Friedman.

Mendonsa and Friedman's story of how the iconic kiss happened was announced to the world, and the decades-long controversy was finally put to rest.

At least, until now.

The controversy has been blown wide-open once again because Mendonsa and Friedman's story couldn't have happened at the time they said it did, according to Texas State physicist Donald Olsen and his two colleagues, Russell Doescher, an astrophysicist at Texas State, and Steven D. Kawaler, an astrophysicist at Iowa State University.

The three scientists pointed out a flaw in the story when they sought to answer another question about this iconic photo that few people think to ask: What time of day Eisenstaedt took the photo.

Olsen scrutinized the length and angle of the various shadows of people and buildings in the photo to help him get an idea of the time of day. He also built scale models of some of the buildings in Time Square back in 1945 based from measurements he found in old maps and blueprints of the square, as well as aerial photos to determine the time, once and for all.

But what ultimately clinched it was the length of the shadow on a clock in the photo. The shadow, Olsen realized, was generated by a sign above the clock. By calculating the distance between the clock and sign, he determined the location of the sun in the sky, which then gave him the time of day.

The KissAfter four years working on this project, Olsen and the team announced beyond any doubt that the famous kiss happened at 5:51 p.m. According to Wired, you can read a report of their findings in the upcoming August issue of Sky and Telescope Magazine.

The problem is that Mendonsa and Friedman’s story place their kiss at around 2:00 p.m. Mendonsa said that the kiss happened shortly after he left a movie at 1:05 p.m. and Friedman said that she was on a late lunch break.

While the two purported kissers might just be misremembering the time of day — after all it happened nearly 70 years ago — Olsen's study brings their story and subsequent claims of being the famous sailor and nurse into question.

Although he’s solved the time of day, Olsen told Wired that he still hasn’t a clue as to the identity of the people in the photo. That mystery is one that will have to remain unsolved, for now.

Everything there is to know about the Han Solo 'Star Wars' stand-alone movie

han solo 1

Though the next "Star Wars" movie, "The Force Awakens," doesn't open until December 18, there's been no shortage of news about the saga.

One of the most exciting announcements was that an upcoming "Star Wars" anthology film would focus on a young Han Solo.

Entertainment Weekly reported Thursday some new details about the project. Here's a breakdown of everything we know so far about the standalone movie on one of the galaxy's most lovable scoundrels.

  1. The directors behind the "21 Jump Street" films and "The Lego Movie," Phil Lord and Chris Miller, have signed on to direct the film.
  2. The movie will be released May 25, 2018.
  3. EW got a sense from Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy that the film will include a lot of familiar faces including Solo's wingman Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian, Jabba the Hutt, and even Greedo.
  4. Lawrence Kasdan, screenwriter for "The Empire Strikes Back," "Return of the Jedi," "The Force Awakens," as well as "Raiders of the Lost Ark" is writing the screenplay.
  5. No actor has been hired yet to play Solo. In fact, according to the EW story, "they aren't even close in that department."
  6. According to Kennedy, the Solo stand-alone will likely focus on him at the age of "the high teens, low 20s."
  7. It's possible we'll also see Solo's wife. From the movies we believe that at the end of "Return of the Jedi" Solo and Princess Leia are an item, but it turns out from the current comic books Marvel is releasing on events that happened between "A New Hope" and "The Empire Strikes Back," Sana Solo, Han's wife, shows up to her husband's surprise.

chewbacca harrison ford the force awakens

Disney is set to reveal its anticipated line of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" toys next month in stores on September 4.

The toys have supposedly been under lock and key for months in preparation of keeping them hidden from the public eye until next month, but it looks like some retailers may have spoiled parts of the big reveal.

Photos of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" action figures began appearing online Thursday. Star Wars site Jedi Temple Archives appears to have stumbled upon the first figures, which may have been sold at a Walmart.

Some of the toys were seen on eBay, selling for a high price of $99.99. Their retail price is set at a reported $9.99.

Here are the ones we've seen on eBay:

A Kylo Ren action figure complete with his three-pronged lightsaber.

And a closer look at that character description:

It reads: "A trained warrior desperate to escape his past, Finn is plunged into adventure as his conscience drives him down a heroic, but dangerous, path." So, is Finn trying to escape his past as a stormtrooper?

Other toys are popping up on eBay from seller 1000thghost.

This one's cool. The new Flametroopers:

Most curious are two figurines of Darth Vader and a young Luke Skywalker. It should be noted that the packaging for both toys does not include "The Force Awakens" on it.

The biggest reveal was a toy for a new character called Contable Zuvio.

“Compton” will be in wide release today at over 2,700 theaters and will likely be number one at the box office this weekend with estimates having the movie earning a weekend total of between $40 million and $50 million.

Mike Rowe was almost named the host of 'The Daily Show' twice

mike rowe cnn

It's always fun to hear the might-have-beens when it comes to "The Daily Show."

Everyone from Louis C.K. to Amy Schumer were reportedly offered Jon Stewart's hosting chair following his announcement that he was leaving the show. The choice went to up-and-coming comedian Trevor Noah.

But one of the most outside-the-box hosting choices has now been revealed. Mike Rowe was almost made "The Daily Show" host on two separate occasions.

The wise-cracking blue-collar everyman from "Dirty Jobs" and now CNN's "Somebody's Gotta Do It" stated his missed opportunities on his website Thursday after being asked how he deals with rejection.

Rowe posted a picture of himself crying while holding up a reaction letter from "The Daily Show." He called it "one of the nicest rejection letters I’ve ever received, but it was nevertheless devastating, because I knew then with certainty that this was my 'dream job.'"

According to Rowe's post, he was also considered 17 years ago as the first-ever host of "The Daily Show" leading up to its premiere.

"Comedy Central spent a year looking for the right host. The audition process was extensive, and when the dust settled, it came down to two – Craig Kilborn and me. The job went to Craig, and I was crushed."

Kilborn was a popular anchor on ESPN's "SportsCenter" before becoming "The Daily Show" host. He left "The Daily Show" in 1999 and went to CBS to host "The Late Late Show."

When looking for Kilborn's replacement, Comedy Central came calling again to Rowe.

"Craig split, and the network called me back," Rowe wrote in his post. "I went in for another audition. This time, I wasn’t going to let it get away. I did the very best job I could, and all modesty aside, I killed it. Afterwards, I was told by the producers and writers that I was about to become the new host of The Daily Show, unless – by some miracle – Comedy Central were to suddenly cough up the kind of money that could entice a proven entity like Dennis Miller or Jon Stewart. Of course, we all now which way the mop flopped, and I was once again, devastated."

Rowe wrote the second rejection was "a critical step in a long series of failures that got me to the sewer," referring to getting the "Dirty Jobs" show, which turned him into a star host.

But just imagine how "The Daily Show" would have turned out with Rowe at the helm.

DirecTV has been ordered to stop trashing cable TV in its ads — but even the ad regulator admits the Rob Lowe spots 'are very funny' (DTV, CMCSA)

$

0

The US ad regulator has told digital TV provider DirecTV to stop trashing cable in its ads.

Actor Rob Lowe and a number of his alter-egos have appeared in a series of humorous ads over the past few months, claiming DirecTV is superior to cable in terms of service wait times, signal reliability, picture and sound quality, and that it has better sports programming.

Back in April, Comcast complained about the ads to the National Advertising Division, a regulatory unit that investigates controversial ads. The NAD recommended the spots be discontinued because DirecTV did not submit substantiation for its "superior" claims in the investigation, and that disclosures in the ads themselves about the company's customer-satisfaction ranking, sports-programming charges, and picture quality were "inadequate."

At the time, DirecTV said it was planning to replace the ads anyway with spots showing Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition cover model Hannah Davis and a singing, talking horse.

Nevertheless, a five-member panel of the National Advertising Review Board (NARB) — the appellate unit of the US advertising industry's self-regulatory system — reviewed the NAD's decision. The verdict was published on Friday.

The panel noted that the Rob Lowe commercials "are very funny," but added that "depending on the context, even humorous advertisements can convey messages that require substantiation by the advertiser."

In summary, the NARB decided:

The panel agreed with the NAD that the ad conveyed a message that DirecTV is "superior to cable."

The panel agreed with the NAD that DirecTV's claim about "up to 1080" should be modified to include a disclosure that this is limited only to programming where the resolution is available

The panel did not agree with the NAD's findings that DirecTV's "Scrawny Arms Rob Lowe" commercial reasonably implied all sports programming was available in the service's $19.99/month introductory bundle. The NARB recommended DirecTV make a clearer disclosure.

The panel agreed DirecTV had appropriate substantiation for its "#1 in customer satisfaction over all cable TV providers claim" but recommended it more prominently disclose the source of the information.

DirecTV did not agree with all aspects of the decision, but said in a statement: "DirecTV is a strong believer in the self-regulatory process and will take the NARB’s recommendations into consideration when making these claims in the future."

However, DirecTV added that it "continues to believe that consumers do not perceive comparative superiority claims in the Rob Lowe advertisements. Whether from news accounts or social media, it is clear that consumers appreciate and understand the central role that humor and exaggeration play in the Rob Lowe advertisements."

The Force Awakens' villain, Kylo Ren

With only about four months left before "Star Wars" makes it's grand return to cinemas with "The Force Awakens," we're finally starting to get a sense of what the film will be about.

In addition to tantalizing details about all sorts of things — including villain Kylo Ren— Lucasfilm released a number of new images via Entertainment Weekly Thursday.

Since then, the studio has released high-resolution versions of the images on the Star Wars Facebook page for fans to obsessively pour over.

Let's take a look at them.

John Boyega plays Finn, a Stormtrooper on the run following what looks like a disastrous escape.

J.J. Abrams gives direction to Daisy Ridley, who plays a character named Rey, on the desert world of Jakku.

girl reading

Your 20s are a time for figuring out who you are and what you want from life.

While the only way to learn is to survive the inevitable cycle of successes and failures, it is always useful to have some guidance along the way.

To help you out, we've selected some of our favorite books that likely never made your high school or college reading lists.

It's an eclectic selection that focuses on topics like identity, how you see the world, and laying the foundation for a fulfilling career.

Here's what we think you should read before you turn 30.

'Meditations' by Marcus Aurelius

As you become an adult, you realize that there will never be a time in your life where everything is just as you hoped it would be.

"Meditations" is a collection of personal writings on maintaining mental toughness from the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius, who ruled from 161 to 180 AD and became remembered as one of the great "philosopher kings."

As Gregory Hays notes in the introduction to his excellent translation, Marcus wrote his musings on resilience and leadership in a "dark and stressful period" in the last decade of his life.

The emperor's version of Stoic philosophy has remained relevant for 1,800 years because it offers timeless advice for gaining control of one's emotions and progressing past all obstacles in one's path.

'The Myth of Sisyphus: And Other Essays' by Albert Camus

We all have a reason to get out of bed in the morning, and we start to question that reason after entering the real world.

As "The Stranger" author Albert Camus sees it, all people find themselves in an irrational world struggling to find meaning for their lives where there is none.

His main message, however, is that just as the legend of Sisyphus tells of a god who was eternally punished by having to push a rock up a hill only to have it fall down each time he reached the peak, we should embrace the drive for meaning and lead happy, fulfilling lives with a clear-eyed view of the world.

'Crime and Punishment' by Fyodor Dostoyevsky

Regardless of your personal philosophy, there will be times when the world pushes against you and you wonder why it's worth trying to better yourself and help others.

Fyodor Dostoyevsky's novel is not only a gripping story, it's an argument against the nihilism that was popular among Russian intellectual circles in his time.

"Crime and Punishment" is the tale of a 23-year-old man named Raskolnikov who, acting on a nagging urge, murders two old women and then struggles with processing the act.

Dostoyevsky argues that rationalism taken to its extreme ignores the powerful bonds that connect humanity and give us responsibility over each other.

Filmmaker Steven Spielberg is in need of a bit more space while traversing the oceans.

He's selling his yacht, The Seven Seas, which he purchased for approximately $184 million, because the 282-foot vessel is just not enough boat for him, according to the Daily Mail.

"Steven didn’t realize how much he’d enjoy cruising the ocean. Now he’d like to spend more time exploring the seas, and bring a few friends along for the ride. So he’s upgrading to a bigger yacht," a friend of the director's told the Daily Mail.

Oceanco Seven SeasBuilt by Dutch shipbuilding company Oceanco, The Seven Seas is packed with amenities. An infinity pool, 15-foot glass movie screen, helicopter pad, gym, spa, and massage room are just a few of the luxuries that are reportedly onboard.

As for accommodations, there's one master suite, two VIP suites, two double bed cabins, and one cabin with a twin bed. In total, the yacht can sleep 12.

Spielberg is currently chartering out the massive yacht to the tune of $1.2 million a month — making it one of the most expensive charters in the world, the Daily Mail reports.

His new yacht will be a mere 18 feet bigger, reaching the coveted 300-foot threshold and costing a cool $250 million to build.

Hugely successful YouTube star and best-selling novelist John Green says he feels like 'a fraud'

YouTube Star John Green

There's this thing that really smart people do to themselves, where they convince themselves that they're not as good as their peers and that their success really comes down to luck and faking it.

This feeling is called Imposter's Syndrome. It's particularly rampant in the geek/hacker world, where intelligence of all kind is revered, genius coding is idolized, and famous genius coders have reputations for being insult-spewing dudes who don't suffer fools kindly (think: young Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg in the movie "The Social Network", or Linus Torvalds' famous rants).

Many tech professionals are working themselves into the ground, feeling that in order to keep up the facade of being smart and skilled, they need to worker longer and harder.

So, here's an interesting insight: Even some of the most successful people suffer from Impostor's Syndrome. Since we first reported on the rampage of Imposter Syndrome in the tech industry, we've noticed more brave souls going public about their own battle.

On Thursday during a Reddit AMA, another brave soul confessed: author and YouTube star John Green.

hank john greenGreen is the author of best-selling novels "Looking for Alaska," "Paper Towns" and "The Fault in Our Stars." ("The Fault" was beautifully written and filled with memorable lines like this one: "'As he read, I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, and then all at once.")

Green is also known for his mega popular vlogbrothers YouTube channel with his brother Hank, and his educational video channels Crash Course, and Mental Floss. All told, the Greens have a following of 10 million people across all their channels.

This guy has Imposter's Syndrome? Yup.

When a recent grad student asked him if he ever had writer's block and worried that he'd never write again, Green replied:

I mean I haven't published a novel for three and a half years, so....yeah.

I feel this way all the time. People often use the phrase "literally the worst" colloquially, but I have on countless occasions felt that I am literally the worst writer on Earth, and that I am a complete fraud. I feel like a fraud all the time, and I still don't feel like I know how to write a novel, and at this point I doubt I ever will.

The only way through it for me is to take pleasure in the process of writing, or to find value in it. Even when I suck. Even when there's no way anything I'm writing will ever see the light of day. The act of trying to write for an audience must feel valuable in and of itself, or else I am doomed.

As another Imposter's Syndrome sufferer once advised: The trick to making these terrifying feelings of insecurity go away, even temporarily, is to talk about it and discover you are not alone.

Which means if we're all really "faking" our way to success, maybe even greatness, how fake can we really be?
