Michael Peña’s scene-stealing performance in ‘Ant-Man’ wouldn’t be possible if it wasn’t for this person

Ant Man Michael Pena

Actor Michael Peña is best known for his dramatic work, which has recently included gripping performances alongside Brad Pitt in “Fury” and partnering with Jake Gyllenhaal as cops patrolling South Central L.A. in “End of Watch.

But starring as Luis in “Ant-Man,” Peña delivers a scene-stealing performance playing Ant-Man’s side kick who has a knack for telling drawn out stories and having a positive attitude on just about anything.

That last trait helped the Luis character evolve from just a character that would take up space for a few scenes to becoming one of its most memorable in the movie.

“I don’t think my part was even that big in the beginning,” Peña told Business Insider. “I just wanted to be in a Marvel movie. But then a couple of scenes happened and then suddenly I was put in a couple of more and the role expanded. I’m really grateful.”

In the movie, when Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) gets out of prison Luis is there to pick him up and gives him a place to stay as he tries to leave his life of crime as a burglar. It doesn’t help that Luis is also a career-criminal and fills Lang’s mind with jobs they can do now that he’s out.

Ant Man Michael Pena2 finalBut what really makes his performance stand out is the happy-go-lucky personality Peña gave Luis, which was inspired by a friend he knew back in his hometown of Chicago named Pablo.

“He has this attitude which I always found funny,” said Peña. “He could be complaining about the worst things ever and he’s always got a smile on his face. He’s the guy that when you say, ‘Buddy, what did you do this week?’ He’s like, ‘Oh, I went to jail,’ but with a smile.”

Peña believes it’s the personality he gave Luis inspired by his buddy that caused the role to evolve into being Ant-Man’s most trusted ally.

And the actor hopes to play him again.

Though Peña said he hasn’t been told of a sequel yet, he has signed a three-picture deal with Marvel. Stating that’s what the studio does so if there are sequels there’s no contract negotiations for future movies.

“It’s a crazy character and it’s fun to do so I would love to do a couple more movies with the guy,” Peña said.

Here’s a little taste of the Luis character:

TV's best kept secret just released season 2

Meet Netflix's "BoJack Horseman," an animated comedy which brought surprising emotional stakes to a show about talking animals. Season 2 just rolled out to subscribers on Friday, July 17. And for some reason, nobody seems to know about this show.

Hopefully that will change.

"BoJack Horseman" was the best show of 2014. I stand by that claim, and believe that "BoJack" could even take that spot again in a very crowded field of contenders.

At the end of last season, burned out 1990s sitcom star BoJack Horseman (Will Arnett) overcame a series of obstacles and disappointments and finally landed his dream role as Secretariat. Season one went to some incredibly dark places, but depending on how Bojack handles his comeback, this season could actually be uplifting.

Returning from last year's all-star voice cast is Aaron Paul (Todd), Alison Brie (Diane), Paul F. Tompkins (Mr. Peanutbutter), and Amy Sedaris (Princess Carolyn). This season also adds Lisa Kudrow as the voice of BoJack's new girlfriend. The trailer also teases a reunion between Bojack and his long estranged mother.

"Bojack Horseman" is back and I won't be surprised if it's better than ever.

Here's how 'BoJack Horseman' landed an amazing cameo in season 2

BoJack Horseman

Warning: This article contains spoilers for the fourth episode of season two of "BoJack Horseman."

Netflix's original animated series "BoJack Horseman" has landed some huge names to lend voices to the show. During its short run, it has gotten Oscar-winning actor J.K. Simmons to play a tortoise and Naomi Watts to play herself.

In the fourth episode of season two, entitled "After the Party," it landed its biggest star to date.

In the episode, Mr. Peanutbutter (Paul F. Tompkins) throws his wife Diane (Alison Brie) a surprise party, despite the fact that she hates both surprises and parties. The party is immediately ruined after they get into a big fight.

Throughout the episode, it's hinted that Paul McCartney is hiding inside a giant birthday cake.

BoJack Horseman

Throughout the entire episode a potential McCartney appearance is teased, but you don't think much of it.

BoJack Horseman

Then in the episode's final moments, long after the party ended, McCartney actually bursts out of the cake, but no no one's around to see or know he was there.

BoJack Horseman

He has a few quick lines.

"Surprise!" McCartney sings.

"Hello? Anybody? This is Paul McCartney. I came all this way to jump out of a cake? Honest. With a new suit on. Aye-yai-yai," he says before the episode ends.

It might be hard to believe, but as revealed in the credits, that is, indeed, former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney:

Screen Shot 2015 07 17 at 12.27.28 PM

"BoJack" creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg was so uncertain McCartney would actually lend his voice to the show, that he had a backup cameo of sorts planned.

BoJack Horseman

"A lot of our celebrities who kind of play themselves ... we don't really know who its gonna be," Bob-Waksberg told Business Insider. "It's kind of an 'insert celebrity here' situation. Someone's gonna be in that cake and jump out. We talked like 'Who's the celebrity gonna be' and at first we had Kevin Bigley who did a lot of voices on our show. He kind of did an impression of Michael Bublé which is really funny. And then we got this email from Linda [Lamontagne] our casting director saying 'Hey, I think we can get this guy [Paul McCartney].' And I was like, 'No way! I don't believe you! We're sticking with the Michael Bublé impression.'"

While Bob-Waksberg had his doubts about whether or not McCartney would actually come on the show, casting director Linda Lamontagne used the word "tenacity" when describing how she eventually got McCartney to appear on the show.

"It's the material ... it's the script ... the scripts are so good on this show that they [McCartney's company] did respond." Lamontagne told Business Insider. "It took a little bit and we sort of had to wait it out for when we could get him and we were fortunate to be able to record him when he was in New York."

It was a cameo so surprising that even Bob-Waksberg didn't know it was going to happen until the last second.

Paul McCartney

"I was driving to work one day and I stopped for a smoothie and I was waiting for my smoothie and I got a call from Noel Bright, our executive producer, who said, 'Hey, did you get that email this morning?' And I said, 'No, what email?' And he said 'Yeah, he's [McCartney's] recording today. He's calling in in five minutes. You need to get over here.' And so I ran out of the smoothie place, got into my car and raced to the studio." recalled Bob-Waksberg.

Bob-Waksberg eventually made it to the office on time to record McCartney (he describes the musical legend as "a real sweetheart").

Typically, "Bojack Horseman" is made in Los Angeles. When they use voices of actors who live in other cities, they will typically go to a studio in whatever city they live in and Bob-Waksberg will direct them over the phone. However, they bent the rules a bit for McCartney.

"With him, because he's such a big star, we actually sent a guy with a microphone to his house. That's some real special treatment." said Bob-Waksberg.

Season two of "BoJack Horseman" begins streaming on Netflix on July 17.

Huffington Post refuses to cover the Donald Trump 'clownshow' in its politics section

donald trump

The Huffington Post will no longer cover Donald Trump's presidential campaign in its politics section. In a post published on the site Friday, Huffington Post Washington bureau chief Ryan Grim and editorial director Danny Shea said they would be moving all coverage of Trump, who has starred in multiple reality-television shows, to the entertainment section.

"Our reason is simple: Trump's campaign is a sideshow," they wrote. "We won't take the bait. If you are interested in what The Donald has to say, you'll find it next to our stories on the Kardashians and The Bachelorette."

The post was subsequently shared on Twitter by Arianna Huffington, the site's cofounder and editor-in-chief.

This decision comes even though The Huffington Post's own poll-tracker shows Trump leading the Republican primary field.

In a conversation with Business Insider over Twitter direct messages, Grim explained the rationale behind the decision, described how coverage of Trump would look going forward, and addressed potential criticism of the decision.

"Yes, that's us passing judgment, but I'd argue it's still objective, as he is objectively a clownshow," Grim said of Trump.

According to Grim, Trump will still be included in the site's polls of the 2016 field. Grim said those polls with Trump would still appear in the politics section, "as will be his impact on the field, the immigration debate, and politics generally."

Business Insider also asked Grim whether the decision to move Trump coverage to entertainment was effectively "having it both ways." In other words, The Huffington Post is getting attention and credit for ignoring Trump while still getting traffic from stories about his White House bid on the entertainment section.

"Yes, though we have always been a mix of high and low," Grim said. "All this says is that we're properly classifying him as low."

With Trump leading in some polls, Business Insider also asked Grim how The Huffington Post would handle a Trump victory.

"He will not," Grim said of Trump's chances of becoming the Republican nominee. "I'm as likely to get it as he is. He's only where he is because of the big field. When the field winnows, he fades."

Trump and his team did not respond to requests for comment on this story.

50 Cent

On Thursday, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson released to a federal court a list of his creditors.

According to The Wrap, the rapper/actor owes his creditors exactly $28,478,920.75.

His biggest unpaid creditor is Sleek Audio, based out of Florida. The company won an $18.4 million judgment against Jackson after it said he stole its design, according to The Wrap.

Creditors are also after Jackson to pay $5 million to Lastonia Leviston, a Florida woman who sued 50 after accusing him of putting her private sex tape on the internet and doctoring it.

Page Six lists other debts — $137,880 to Bentley Financial Services for a car lease, an American Express card bill of $64,909.04, and $5,245.66 to a Park Avenue stylist.

Jackson filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Monday.

In May, Forbes estimated Jackson’s net worth at $155 million, ranking him No. 4 on its list of wealthiest hip-hop artists.

marty mcfly, back to the future, delorian

It's 2015 and the flying cars, auto-adjusting clothing, and inexpensive hover boards we saw in "Back to the Future" are still naught but a distant dream.

But that's okay. Universal Studios is bringing the film trilogy back to the theaters (see what I did there) on October 21, 2015 — the exact date Marty McFly travels to in the second film.

back to the future date

Since the only thing better about imagining the future is being nostalgic about it, Universal Home Entertainment also announced that they'll be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the classic films by rereleasing them in several new collections— the most expensive ones will even come with a light-up flux capacitor package and the DVD debut of "Back to the Future: The Complete Animated Series."

Remember that?

Marvel will soon release an insane $250 movie box set — Here's what you get

ant man antony

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) — the series of interlocking superhero films that began with "Iron Man" in 2008 — is an ambitious plan broken down into three phases. The first phase ended with "Marvel's The Avengers" in 2012, and this week's release of "Ant-Man" officially marks the end of "Phase Two." Phase Three of the MCU is expected to conclude in 2019 with a two-part "Avengers" film.

To celebrate the close of Phase Two, Marvel is putting together a limited edition Blu-ray box set with all of the Phase Two movies, plus a host of extra goodies, just as it did for all the Phase One films.

Here's everything you get in Marvel's next big box set, which is currently an Amazon exclusive:

  • "Iron Man 3" — Available in Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, and a digital copy
  • "Thor: The Dark World" — Available in Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, and a digital copy
  • "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" — Available in Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, and a digital copy
  • "Guardians Of The Galaxy" — Available in Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, and a digital copy
  • "Avengers: Age of Ultron" — Available in Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, and a digital copy
  • "Ant-Man" — Available in Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, and a digital copy
  • A top-secret bonus disc!
  • More goodies, including "collectible, specially designed disc holders and exclusive Marvel memorabilia"

marvel box setThere's no information yet about the product's release date, or what the final box set will actually look like. However, the Amazon listing includes the above image, which might give us a hint: It shows an alien metal orb, the same ball that appeared in "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Avengers: Age of Ultron" that contained one of the six "Infinity Stones," which will be eventually be wielded by the evil mad titan Thanos in Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Considering Marvel lists "specially designed disc holders," you can expect the final box set to appear something like the image above.

Though there's no official date for the box set, we imagine the launch will coincide with the DVD release of "Ant-Man" later this year. We've reached out to Marvel for more information and we'll update the post if we hear back.

In the meantime, you can still buy the box set for Phase One of Marvel's Cinematic Universe on Amazon, which includes "Iron Man," "The Incredible Hulk," "Iron Man 2," "Thor," "Captain America: The First Avenger," and "Marvel's The Avengers," plus a host of other Marvel memorabilia and a briefcase that contains another one of the six Infinity Stones. That box set also included a bonus disc, which offered Marvel featurettes, deleted and extended scenes from each film, and an exclusive look at Phase Two of Marvel's Cinematic Universe.

Disney is telling everyone it had nothing to do with the racy Amy Schumer 'Star Wars' cover for GQ

Provocative comedian Amy Schumer got a bunch of attention for dressing like Pricess Leia from "Star Wars" in a racy cover shoot for GQ magazine.

Disney, which owns Star Wars, doesn't seem to be thrilled with that attention.

After people on Twitter were crying out that Disney let this happen, the official Star Wars account scrambled to say it thought the cover was inappropriate.

It doesn't look like it's going to amount to much, but the company is trying to distance itself from the GQ shoot. Starting Thursday night, the official "Star Wars" Twitter account sent a series of tweets stating it was not involved in the shoot.

What did Schumer do to deserve being called inappropriate by Lucasfilm and Disney?

The "Inside Amy Schumer" star, whose movie "Trainwreck" opened on Friday, was adorned in a replica of Princess Leia's skin-showing slave costume and naked in bed with classic "Star Wars" robots/companions C-3PO and R2-D2.

A GQ representative didn't immediately respond to Business Insider's request for comment on LucasFilm and Disney's disapproval.

Pitbull to Donald Trump: 'Watch out for El Chapo!'

Pitbull

Pitbull had a heavy-handed warning for Donald Trump on Thursday night: "Watch out for El Chapo!"

The multi-platinum award winning artist got political delivering that message as he accepted an award at Premios Juventud presented by Univision — the nation's largest Spanish-speaking television network that led the charge against Trump by refusing to air this year's Miss USA pageant.

The infamous Mexican drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman escaped from prison last week for the second time. Pitbull's message seemed to stem from Trump reportedly reaching out to law enforcement after an unverified Twitter account claiming to be El Chapo threatened to harm him.

Pitbull began his acceptance speech by thanking Trump for being kind to him personally, but then directly addressed the real-estate mogul's comments about immigrants.

"I want to tell him, look, I'm not a politician, I'm a musician, but most of all I'm Latino," he said.

The artist then called out Hillary Clinton and Marco Rubio directly to "ponte las pilas," which roughly correlates to, "Step it up" — because, as Pitbull said, "Donald Trump cannot be president!"

Donald TrumpEarlier Thursday in an interview with Fusion, Pitbull was asked if he would stay at Trump's hotels. He said he would not.

"Due to the fact of what has been said, I wouldn't be able to,” he said. “For the simple fact that you’re speaking about a culture that I ride, I die for. And this culture is the only reason I’m having this conversation right now."

All this comes while Trump is surging in Republican primary polls. A Fox News poll Thursday showed Trump leading the way with 18 % of the vote.

50 Cent's bankruptcy will not get him out of his $5 million sex tape lawsuit

A federal judge in Connecticut has ruled that a lawsuit over a sex tape can proceed against rapper 50 Cent, despite his bankruptcy filing.

A New York jury awarded Lastonia Leviston $5 million last week after determining the rapper, whose real name is Curtis Jackson III, didn't have her permission when he posted online a sexually explicit video she made with her boyfriend.

The jury was to consider punitive damages Monday, but Jackson filed for bankruptcy that day in Connecticut, temporarily stalling Leviston's lawsuit.

Her lawyer alleged Jackson filed for bankruptcy to evade testifying in the New York case.

A lawyer for Jackson didn't immediately return a message seeking comment on the judge's ruling Friday.

Leviston's attorney, Philip Freidin, tells The Hartford Courant he's pleased the New York case will be resuming Monday.

TRUMP: Bill Cosby looks 'guilty as hell' and 'I've never liked him'

Real-estate developer Donald Trump recently said that he thinks embattled comedian Bill Cosby looks "guilty as hell" as he faces sexual misconduct accusations from a myriad of women.

Trump, a Republican presidential candidate, weighed in on the Cosby scandal in a radio interview with 77 WABC in New York that will air Sunday.

The host asked him if thought Cosby should lose his Presidential Medal of Freedom. Trump said he would try if he were president.

"I think you could take it away," Trump said. "I don't know if you could take a medal away or not. It's not the most important thing but I would say if you can, take it away."

Trump also stressed that he was never a fan of the "highly overrated" Cosby.

"I've never been a fan of Bill Cosby. I've never liked him. I've known him; I've never liked him. I think he was a highly overrated guy — both in talent and in many other ways. And who would think that this would have happened?" Trump asked.

Trump pointed to a development earlier this month where the AP revealed that Cosby "admitted in a 2005 deposition that he obtained Quaaludes with the intent of giving them to young women he wanted to have sex with."

"All of a sudden, last week, with the court case, where it was unveiled that he actually did this horrible thing. So I don't know. I've never been a fan," Trump said. "I think he's guilty as hell. I mean, he's looking guilty. And that last week's event was very bad for him where they had the sealed documents unsealed."

President Barack Obama was also asked about Cosby's presidential medal earlier this week. Obama said there's no precedent for revoking the award, which was bestowed upon Cosby by former President George W. Bush.

Cosby, who has maintained his innocence, has not been charged with a crime.

Donald Trump just took his feud with the Huffington Post to the next level

RTX1GZCO

Donald Trump's campaign dismissed the Huffington Post as a "glorified blog" in a statement on Friday evening.

Trump's attack on the website came after the Huffington Post announced it would cover Trump's presidential campaign on its entertainment page rather than in its politics section. Huffington Post Washington bureau chief Ryan Grim also dismissed Trump as "a clownshow" in an interview about the decision with Business Insider.

"The only clown show in this scenario is the Huffington Post pretending to be a legitimate news source," the Trump campaign statement said.

Though the statement was titled "Donald J. Trump Response To Huffington Post," a Trump spokeswoman said it was attributable to his campaign. The statement pointed to the fact Trump has previously criticized the Huffington Post on Twitter.

"If you read previously written Tweets, Mr. Trump has never been a fan of Arianna Huffington or the money-losing Huffington Post," the statement said.

Indeed, in one 2012 tweet, Trump launched a series of personal attacks on the site's co-founder and editor in chief, Arianna Huffington, that referenced her 1997 divorce from a former congressman who later announced he was gay:

The Trump campaign's statement also touted his positioning in a series of polls and vowed he would win the first two presidential primaries.

"Mr. Trump is number one in the unimportant Huffington Post poll, along with all other recently released polls including Reuters, FOX, USA Today/Suffolk University and The Economist. Mr. Trump is in first place in Nevada, where he is also number one, by a wide margin, with Hispanics. He is number one in North Carolina and expects to win Iowa and New Hampshire," the statement said.

In his interview with Business Insider, Grim said Trump is only performing well in the polls "because of the big field" in the Republican primary.

The Trump campaign's statement also boasted his controversial recent comments about Mexican immigrants "singlehandedly raised the issue of illegal immigration and started a national conversation about what has turned out to be one of the most important topics of this election cycle."

"Likewise, Mr. Trump is the leader on issues such as the terrible United States trade deals, strengthening our military, taking care of our great Vets and the repeal and replacement of Obamacare," the statement said.

Stephen Colbert just released a genius 'choose your own adventure' game online and you can play it right now

Stephen Colbert browser game

Stephen Colbert and his team has just created something wonderful.

On the CBS website today you can play an in-browser, text-based "choose your own adventure" type video game that is so witty it seems like it was written by Colbert himself (maybe it was?).

"You are Stephen Colbert. Congratulations!" goes the opening screen. "You are wandering the office because your show doesn't start for two months and they won't let you drive go-karts inside anymore."

From there I rapidly found myself lost in a very Colbert-ian narrative that found me locked in the titular man-sized cabinet, kicking and biting at the walls. Soon, I found myself at this screen:

colbert screen one

Maybe I should have followed Colbert's prodding to explore deeper into the cabinet.

Business Insider editor Matt Johnston took that route and encountered centaurs, fantastic illustrations, and "Duke Nukem" references. (He's still playing and calling out quotes as I type this up.)

Colbert game screen 2

We don't want to spoil the rest of this silly, wonderful adventure so please do give it a shot.

Colbert's script plays out through a clever piece of open-source storytelling software called "Twine" embedded on the CBS website. You can play through Colbert's mad world here, or make a game of your own with the software.

Give it a shot. Trust us, it's worth it.

There’s a million little reasons to see Amy Schumer’s ‘Trainwreck’ — but there’s one thing that’s holding it back

$
0
0

Trainwreck

"Trainwreck" follows the pattern of recent Judd Apatow directed films that are good but maybe just a little too long for their own good and less like a coherent film and more like a series of hit-or-miss sketches.

Some of those sketches are great. There is one moment involving throwing up that is a tremendous feat in comedic timing, thanks to both the acting and directing. Meanwhile, the repeated use of Billy Joel's "Uptown Girl" is so memorable and catchy that I actually witnessed a group of people singing the song outside the theater.

The loose structure of "Trainwreck" worked well for "This Is 40," which simply told the complex story of a marriage. "Trainwreck" sometimes veers too far from the romantic comedy formula that it wishes to follow, and that can be an issue.

Most romantic comedies revolve around at least one person trying to find true love. Meanwhile, in the opening moments of “Trainwreck,” a child, who turns out to be the younger version of the lead, is told that “monogamy is not realistic.” The opening flashback provides the film with its darker context.

At first, “Trainwreck" isn’t about someone trying to find love, but rather someone who is trying to avoid it.

Trainwreck

If you watched the trailers for “Trainwreck,” you were probably expecting a much different film. In fact, much of the footage shown didn’t even make it into the final cut. But misleading advertising isn’t always a bad thing. Albeit, a romantic comedy put together by a lot of talented, funny people. But it has a surprisingly serious core that grounds it.

In “Trainwreck,” Amy Schumer plays Amy, a reporter for a men’s magazine, who is told by her boss (Tilda Swinton, once again showing that she can play literally any role) that she could be up for a big promotion. To prove her worth, Amy is assigned to write an article about sports doctor Aaron Conners (Bill Hader), despite the fact that she knows nothing about sports. When asked what her favorite team is, she answers "The Orlando Blooms."

Trainwreck

After a one night stand, the two of them, very quickly, find themselves falling in love. Once the two of them meet, the trouble for Amy is not falling in love, but rather staying in love.

Trainwreck

Most romantic comedies end with the beginning of a relationship, the moment where the couple realizes that they truly were meant to be together. Typically, that relationship begins at the end, in an airport terminal, a New Year’s Eve party, or on a bridge. What is so interesting about “Trainwreck” is that it doesn’t wait that long to start the relationship. We get to see what Aaron and Amy actually look like as a couple. And thus, we must stick around for some fights.

Besides being one of the sharpest comedic minds working today, Schumer is also a tremendous dramatic actress. She helps to provide the movie with some of the pathos that truly sets it apart. In a very rare case, Schumer was able to write her first feature film starring role. She has earned this level of control. Given that she was just nominated for an Emmy for "Inside Amy Schumer," it seems like she is having a pretty good week.

Trainwreck LeBron James.JPG

The supporting cast of "Trainwreck" is fantastic, and widely consists of the people who would normally perform with Schumer at 1:00 AM on a Thursday night at the Comedy Cellar. Colin Quinn, best known as an anchor on Weekend Update on "Saturday Night Live," steals every scene he is in as Schumer's mean but lovable father who is diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (this is based on Schumer's real dad). Meanwhile, comedian Mike Birbiglia spends most of the movie in the background, but he is hilarious even when he is just roller skating.

The movie's greatest blessing, and its greatest curse, is time. "Trainwreck" clocks in at 125 minutes, much longer than the average comedy.  This has become Judd Apatow's trademark following "Funny People" (153 minutes) and "This Is 40" (134 minutes). Just like those films, "Trainwreck" can be very hit-or-miss.

There is one long scene where Amy and her sister Kim (Brie Larson) clean out their father's house. Amy wants to keep whatever old stuff she can find, while Kim is ready to throw it all away. This scene is long, but it perfectly captures the dynamic between the two sisters. And while Lebron James is hilarious (just seeing him get worried about trying to split a lunch bill is delightful), some of his scenes could have been cut down and they still would have been funny.

Trainwreck

When "Trainwreck" does follow the rom-com formula, it feels like it is reinvigorating it.

Sometimes, you can make the movie everybody is expecting and still make it a little different. Whenever it feels like "Trainwreck" is achieving that, it is great. "Trainwreck" is sort of like the feature length version of watching a comedian work out material on stage at a comedy club. Sometimes it works, and sometimes they need to scribble something down in their notebook and fix it later.

DENVER (Reuters) - A stuffed teddy bear from the hit animated movie "Minions" is credited with breaking the fall of a 5-year-old Colorado girl who suffered only minor injuries after tumbling from a third-story apartment window, police said on Friday.

The child was playing in a bedroom when she accidentally fell backwards out of an open window, Colorado Springs police said in a statement.

"Fortunately, when the child fell out of the window she continued holding on to a stuffed Minion teddy bear that is believed to have cushioned her fall," the statement said.

The girl was transported to a local hospital where she was treated for a broken arm and released, police said.

Colorado Springs Police Lieutenant Catherine Buckley said it is the fifth incident since May of a child falling from an open window in the state's second-largest city.

"Thankfully none of the injuries have been serious, but people should make sure to have an adequate screen or some other way to block a child from open windows," she said.

"Minions" tells the adventures of Stuart, Kevin and Bob, three gibberish-speaking caveman characters. It is a prequel to the 2010 smash hit "Despicable Me."

The Universal Pictures film reaped $115.2 million at the box office last weekend, making it the second-largest opening ever for an animated movie in North America, according to the trade publication Variety. That record is held by "Shrek the Third's" $121.6 million kickoff in 2007.

The teddy bear incident is the second time toys from the movie have made headlines outside the theater.

Plastic versions of the quirky characters were introduced this month by McDonald's in its line of Happy Meals toys.

Some customers posted videos online to complain that the talking toys utter an obscenity when tapped on a hard surface to activate a voice recording.

The fast-food chain said in a statement that the allegations the toys say anything offensive or profane is untrue, and it has no plans to pull them from its restaurants.

Here's how 50 Cent spent his millions before filing for bankruptcy

50 cent money

On Monday, Curtis Jackson, better known as rapper 50 Cent, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection following a messy lawsuit in which he was forced to pay his rival Rick Ross' ex-girlfriend $5 million.

The news came as a shock, especially considering the rapper was just ranked No. 4 on Forbes' May list of the wealthiest hip-hop artists thanks to his reported $155 million net worth. His massive 2007 deal with Vitamin Water alone awarded him between $60 million and $100 million.

50's lawyers have said the filing is simply to "reorganize his financial affairs as he addresses various professional liabilities," but in the meantime, we only want to live in a world in which 5o Cent is synonymous with his hit 2003 album, "Get Rich or Die Tryin'."

Curtis James Jackson III was born July 6, 1975, in Queens, New York, where he grew up dealing drugs. In 2000, he was struck by nine bullets during a shooting in his neighborhood.

After he released the compilation album "Guess Who's Back?" in 2002, the young rapper was discovered by Eminem and signed by Shady Records, Aftermath Entertainment, and Interscope Records as part of a $1 million deal.

With the help of Eminem and Dr. Dre — who produced his first label album in 2003, "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" — 50 Cent became one of the world's most successful rappers, selling more than 30 million albums worldwide.

Here's how Jeff Bezos chooses which Amazon shows to greenlight

Jeff Bezos

Amazon Studios is having a great year.

In January, it was the first streaming service to win a Golden Globe Award in the "Best Series" category, taking home the trophy for "Transparent," a dark comedy about a father who comes out as transgender.

jeffrey tambor transparentAdditionally, Amazon has signed a deal with Woody Allen for a full season of a 30-minute TV show to be streamed exclusively for Amazon Prime, and Ridley Scott is producing the original Nazi drama series, "The Man in the High Castle."

Jeff Bezos, Amazon.com founder and CEO, is heavily involved with Amazon Studios and which projects are greenlit.

Bezos is on the cover of the new issue of The Hollywood Reporter talking about his strategy for Amazon shows and how he decides what gets made.

"You can have the best technology, you can have the best business model, but if the storytelling isn't amazing, it won't matter," Bezos tells THR in an interview. "Nobody will watch. And then you won't sell more shoes."

Jeff Bezos The Hollywood ReporterWhen asked what he is looking for in an Amazon show, Bezos explained to THR:

Is this something we can imagine is someone's favorite show? One way you can think about TV is you can say, 'I want to make something that millions and millions of people are going to watch.' If that's your starting point, you paint yourself into a corner and you often end up with homogenized, uninteresting content. If you say, 'Let's hire the world's greatest storytellers. Let's encourage them to take risks,' then you're going to end up with a remarkable story, and remarkable stories always find an audience.

As for how many viewers account for Amazon's audience, the streaming site doesn't reveal viewership numbers and Bezos won't say.

"I don't think it's useful," he says. "I don't want our team obsessing over ratings. I want them obsessing over quality. If they can pull that off, we will have millions of happy viewers."

And despite his demanding position as Amazon CEO, Bezos still finds time to work with Amazon Studios on producing original shows.

"I'm involved very significantly when final decisions are made; so after the pilot process, when we sit down to review all the shows and figure out what to say yes to," he tells THR. "But I'm really a reverse-veto person. I would never say no to something the team wanted to do, but I might say yes to something the team didn't want to do. You want there to be multiple ways to get to 'yes' because you want to encourage risk-taking."

With Bezos located in Seattle, it can sometimes be tough for him to remain in constant contact with such an L.A.-based industry, but he makes it work with his team flying to Seattle specifically for greenlight meetings.

"We sit in a big conference room and we've all watched all the shows, and we've got all the data [from users who have watched the pilots and given feedback] in front of us," he explains of the process. "You absolutely have to be willing to make something that's going to be remarkable. You've got to take some risks."

Once the hard work is done and people tune in to Amazon's shows, it's time to sit back and wait for the accolades.

The first season of Amazon's hit "Transparent" won two Golden Globes in January, and a slew of other awards.

While Bezos isn't obsessed with bringing home awards, he does says, "I think they're important to the creators. The audience also likes it. Is it the only thing that matters? No, but it's very good validation of the quality of the work that the team is doing."
