I crashed the insane 'Star Wars' fan concert at Comic-Con — here's what happened

Since "Star Wars" arrived in theaters in 1977, music has been at the core of the franchise.

Growing up in a family of diehard fans, I learned "The Imperial March" along with nursery rhymes.

So when I learned that at the end of the "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" panel at San Diego Comic-Con, director J.J. Abrams invited all 6,500 fans in attendance at Hall H to a free, secret "Star Wars" concert— I knew I had to get in.

I did. And it blew away my expectations.

There was no way I was going to get into Hall H for the "Star Wars" panel. People camp outside day and night to snag a seat. But I happened to be sitting nearby the exit while the panel took place, and watched a dozen Stormtroopers marching toward it. It seemed odd.

Just as the panel let out, I got a text from my colleague Kirsten, advising me to look out for a parade of Hall H attendees. Twitter was aflutter.

We quickly pieced together that the crowd was headed to the waterfront for a surprise "Star Wars" concert featuring the San Diego Symphony. I raced alongside the roped-off line.

The 11 biggest box-office bombs of 2015 so far

mortdecai johnny depp

Thanks to the huge box-office grosses that movies are having so far this year — including record-breaking takes for “Furious 7" and “Jurassic World” — we may be headed for one of the highest-earning movie years of all time.

But as we hit the halfway point of 2015, we have to address the titles that did not do well.

From “Mortdecai” to “Aloha,” here are 11 of the biggest bombs so far this year.

11. "Tomorrowland" (Disney)

Estimated Budget: $190 million
Worldwide Gross: $202.9 million
Opening Weekend: $33 million

Though this adaptation of the futuristic section of the Disney amusement park did hit No. 1 at the box office its opening weekend, the film's make-the-world-a-better-place vibe and long-winded storyline didn't motivate audiences — especially in the US. Though the George Clooney-starrer made $111.9 worldwide, it took in just $91 million domestically.

(Source: Box Office Mojo)

10. "Chappie" (Sony)

Estimated Budget: $49 million
Worldwide Gross: $102 million
Opening Weekend: $13.3 million

Many were excited for the latest movie from director Neil Blomkamp, as he was returning to his South African roots, where he found major success with his debut feature film, "District 9." But those hopes were dashed when the reviews came out and ripped into the movie, which follows a robot that has signs of artificial intelligence. (The film has a 31% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.)

(Source: Box Office Mojo)

9. "Jupiter Ascending" (Warner Bros.)

Estimated Budget: $176 million
Worldwide Gross: $181.8 million
Opening Weekend: $18.3 million

With production delays pushing the movie from a summer 2014 release date to an opening in January, "Jupiter Ascending" was behind the eight ball very early on. And things didn't get any better for the latest sci-fi thriller from the makers of "The Matrix," Andy and Lana Wachowski, when the film had a surprise screening at the Sundance Film Festival with very few positives coming out of it. General US audiences would end up feeling the same way. However, the film found more takers overseas.

The shocking backstory behind the Bill Cosby rape allegations that just blew up again

0
0

Bill Cosby

Some of Bill Cosby's longtime supporters began to turn on him in recent days after shocking new evidence seemed to bolster women's claims that he drugged and raped them.

That evidence came in the form of a 2005 deposition from Cosby himself that was just made publicIn that deposition, Cosby answered "yes" to the following question:

"When you got the Quaaludes [a type of sedative] was it in your mind that you were going to use these Quaaludes for young women that you wanted to have sex with?"

Cosby gave the deposition in a civil suit brought by Andrea Constand, a former Temple University employee who claimed the comedian gave her Quaaludes in order to sexually assault her. The revelation from his deposition spurred his onetime supporter, singer Jill Scott, to tweet that she was "completely disgusted."

Bill CosbyAfter she filed her lawsuit that produced the deposition, Constand claimed that she could produce more than a dozen other women with similar stories. But that suit was settled in 2006, and Cosby's wholesome reputation remained intact — until last year.

That's when another comedian, Hannibal Buress, suggested Cosby was a hypocrite for telling African-Americans how to behave.

"Pull your pants up, black people! I was on TV in the '80s. I can talk down to you 'cause I had a successful sitcom," Buress said, sarcastically. He continued, imitating Cosby, "'I don't curse on stage."

"Well, yeah, you're a rapist," Buress said to the audience.

The taped set went viral, spurring more women to come forward. The renewed attention ultimately led the Associated Press to compel the release of the damning court deposition from 2005.

Cosby has maintained his innocence even as more and more women come forward to accuse him of rape.

phylicia rushed bill cosbyWe reached out to a longtime spokesman for Cosby, David Brokaw, to give him an opportunity to comment on the deposition. We will update this post if we hear back.

The accusations have common threads, painting a picture of a man who allegedly used his power and influence in the entertainment industry to seek out vulnerable young women and lure them in with the promise of mentorship.

Some have said they felt discouraged from going public because of Cosby's fame, power, and reputation as "America's dad."

While Cosby has never been criminally charged with sexual assault, these accusations have hurt his career recently. Deadline Hollywood reported on July 8 that Cosby's agency, Creative Artists Agency, had quietly dumped him late last year

In recent days, two TV networks have yanked reruns of "The Cosby Show," and Disney took down a statue of the comedian at Hollywood Studios. This is a story that isn't going away, particularly since a woman recently came forward to accuse Cosby of assaulting her in 2008.

That's the first case for which the statute of limitations hasn't run out — meaning Cosby could still face criminal charges, CNN reported.

More than 40 women have accused Cosby of assaulting them, according to USA Today. Here's an overview of some of the more high-profile women who have made allegations against Cosby, who turns 78 on Sunday.

Andrea Constand

Andrea Constand

Constand alleges that Cosby sexually assaulted her in his Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, home in 2004.

She went to police with the allegations, but the district attorney ruled there wasn't enough evidence to charge Cosby. The district attorney on the case told the Daily Mail that at the time, he thought Cosby was probably guilty, and he wanted to arrest him, but he didn't have sufficient proof of the alleged assault.

There wasn't any physical evidence for the case because Constand waited a year before going to police.

Constand is the only woman who has ever pressed charges against Cosby, according to the Daily Mail. After police declined to charge him, she filed a civil suit and lined up 13 other women as supporting witnesses who had stories about Cosby similar to hers. She settled the lawsuit in 2006 for an undisclosed amount.

Constand, now 42, used to work for the women's basketball program at Temple University, Cosby's alma mater. She said she met Cosby in 2002 and saw him as a mentor. He invited her for dinners at his house, she told the Daily Mail.

She claimed in court documents that in 2004, she went to Cosby's house for a visit at his request. He reportedly told her that he wanted to help her pursue a new career. When Constand talked about being stressed, he allegedly gave her three blue pills that he said were an "herbal medication" to help her relax.

Constand said she then began to feel shaky, weak, and dizzy. She said she told Cosby she wasn't feeling well, and he led her to a sofa where he laid her down. Constand was allegedly so impaired that she couldn't walk on her own.

She said Cosby then positioned himself behind her on the sofa and began touching her inappropriately. He then allegedly sexually assaulted her. Constand claimed she was barely conscious throughout the alleged attack.

Constand woke up at about 4 a.m. with her clothes and underwear in disarray, according to the lawsuit. Cosby allegedly greeted her in his bathrobe before she left his house.

Tamara Green

Tamara GreenGreen, a lawyer who lives in California, was the only named supporting witness in Constand's suit.

When Green heard the district attorney thought Constand's story was weak and that she didn't come forward quickly enough, she decided to step forward and tell her story.

She claimed Cosby assaulted her in the 1970s. Green told Newsweek she met Cosby through a friend when she was 19 years old and modeling in Los Angeles.

Green said she met Cosby for a business lunch one day while she had the flu. He allegedly gave her pills he said were cold medicine.

Green told the "Today" show in 2005 she was "face down on the table of the restaurant" about 30 minutes after taking the pills. Cosby allegedly offered to take her home. Once they were at Green's apartment, he allegedly undressed her and assaulted her in her bed.

Eventually, Green said, she started throwing things. Cosby left her apartment after leaving two $100 bills on her coffee table, according to Green.

She never reported the alleged assault to the police because, as she said in the Newsweek interview, "it never works out [for the victim], unless you’re bleeding and there’s DNA and an eyewitness. I was 19 and he was the king of the world ... Nobody would've believed me."

Green told the news magazine that coming forward with the allegations essentially ended her career as a lawyer.

Barbara Bowman

Barbara Bowman

Bowman, another witness in Constand's lawsuit, came forward and identified herself in 2006 in interviews with Philadelphia news outletsShe more recently wrote an op-ed in The Washington Post in light of the viral comedy video that called Cosby a rapist.

Bowman said she met Cosby in 1985 when she was a 17-year-old aspiring actress. He became a father figure and mentor to her, she said.

She claimed Cosby drugged and raped her several times during the two years they knew each other. Bowman told the Daily Mail that he flew her all over the country and invited her to attend events with him to "see if [she] was worth mentoring and grooming" for an acting career.

Bowman said in the Daily Mail interview that Cosby brainwashed her and befriended her mother to gain her trust. He eventually started giving her drugs and raping her, Bowman alleged. She said she continued to see him because he was a useful mentor while she was trying to build a career in the entertainment industry.

One time, Bowman said, she had one glass of wine at Cosby's house and then came to a while later slumped over a toilet throwing up while wearing a man's T-shirt. She told the Daily Mail that he was wearing a robe as he was helping her after she regained consciousness.

The last incident happened in Atlantic City, she said. She wrote in the Post op-ed that she fought him when he tried to pin her to his bed, and he called her a "baby" and sent her home.

Beth Ferrier

Ferrier met Cosby in 1984 while she was working as a young model in New York, according to Philadelphia Magazine. She was another unnamed witness in the Constand lawsuit.

She came forward with her story in the Philadelphia Daily News in 2005 after the suit was filed but before it was settled.

Her relationship with Cosby started as a consensual affair, she told the Daily News. She said in 2005 the affair lasted about six months, but she told People magazine in 2006 that it was an on-and-off affair that lasted several years. Ferrier claimed that at one point after they decided to end the affair, Cosby drugged and assaulted her when she went to see him perform in Denver.

Cosby allegedly gave Ferrier her "favorite coffee" that he made to relax her. After she drank it, she said, she started to feel woozy. She allegedly woke up in the back seat of her car several hours later with her clothes disheveled.

When she confronted him at his hotel later, he allegedly told her she had too much to drink.

Ferrier told People magazine in 2006 that she had recently lost her father when she met Cosby and was "very vulnerable." Cosby was a mentor and father figure to her, she said.

Joan Tarshis

Joan Tarshis

Earlier this month, Hollywood Elsewhere published accusations from Tarshis, a former actress who said Cosby raped her in 1969. She decided to come forward after seeing renewed media attention on the Cosby allegations.

Tarshis was 19 years old when she flew to Los Angeles to work on a monologue. Friends she was staying with reportedly knew Cosby. She said she met Cosby at a lunch and he took a liking to her.

Cosby reportedly asked Tarshis to work on some material with him one day, and he gave her a drink. Tarshis claimed that she vaguely remembers being undressed by Cosby and telling him she had an infection so that he wouldn't have sex with her. He allegedly still sexually assaulted her.

Tarshis told Hollywood Elsewhere about one other incident that allegedly occurred in a hotel room when he invited her to an event. She said she went because she was too ashamed to tell her mother what had happened and turn down the invitation.

She never went to police with the allegations. Tarshis told Philadelphia Magazine: "What could I say? I was 19 years old. I felt, 'He's Bill Cosby. He'll lawyer himself up. I don't have a lawyer. It's going to be he said, she said, and they'll look at me like I'm crazy.' ... My reputation would have been ruined."

Tarshis also pointed out that at the time the assault allegedly happened, no other women had come forward with similar accusations.

Janice Dickinson

Janice Dickinson

Dickinson, a supermodel and TV personality, is so far the most high-profile woman to publicly come forward and accuse Cosby of sexual assault.

She told Entertainment Tonight last year the alleged assault happened in 1982. Dickinson said she met Cosby at the request of her agent, who was trying to get her booked on "The Cosby Show."

Dickinson later landed in rehab for drug and alcohol abuse. She said Cosby called her while she was there, and then after she got out, he invited her to visit him while he was performing in Lake Tahoe. He allegedly told her he wanted to offer her a job and help her develop a singing career.

Dickinson claimed that after she had dinner with Cosby in Lake Tahoe, she had a glass of wine and a pill that Cosby gave her in her room.

She said the last thing she remembers before she passed out was seeing Cosby take off his patchwork robe and get on top of her.

She told ET that she never went to police about the alleged assault because she was "embarrassed and ashamed" and "was afraid of being labeled a whore or a slut and trying to sleep my way to the top of a career that never took place."

Dickinson has previously alluded to her issues with Cosby, but hadn't publicly accused him of sexual assault before last year. She told ET that she wanted to write about the assault in her 2002 autobiography, but was pressured by Cosby and his lawyers to remove the details of the incident.

She said the alleged assault is one of the "biggest resentments" of her life.

Therese Serignese

Therese Serignese

Serignese, a nurse in Florida, came forward last year and identified herself as another of the 13 witnesses in Constand's suit. She claimed Cosby raped her 38 years ago in Las Vegas.

Serignese told The Huffington Post that she met Cosby in 1976 when she was 19 years old.

She was in Las Vegas visiting her mother and Cosby was in town to perform at the Hilton, she told WPTV News. She said she ran into him at the hotel's gift shop while she was there with her sister looking at jewelry. He reportedly came up to her, put his arm around her, and invited her to come see his show later.

Backstage after the show, Cosby allegedly gave Serignese two white pills. She said the next thing she remembers is Cosby raping her in a bathroom.

She kept in touch with him intermittently throughout the next 20 years, she told HuffPo. There was reportedly one more sexual encounter in 1985.

Serignese also alleges that Cosby put her up in a Hilton penthouse for three weeks after the alleged rape in Las Vegas and then sent her money in 1996 after she got into a car accident.

She said she was initially reluctant to report the alleged assault because she thought no one would believe her, but she eventually came forward after hearing about Constand's allegations.

Beverly Johnson

Beverly JohnsonIn December another high-profile woman came out to accuse Bill Cosby of drugging her: Beverly Johnson, the first black model to appear on the cover of Vogue.

Writing in Vanity Fair, Johnson said Cosby drugged her in his home in the mid-'80s when she'd gone there to read lines for a part on "The Cosby Show." Here's what she said happened when Cosby gave her a cappuccino:

I knew by the second sip of the drink Cosby had given me that I’d been drugged — and drugged good ... My head became woozy, my speech became slurred, and the room began to spin nonstop.

She said she began shouting at Cosby, prompting this response:

I recall his seething anger at my tirade and then him grabbing me by my left arm hard and yanking all 110 pounds of me down a bunch of stairs as my high heels clicked and clacked on every step. I feared my neck was going to break with the force he was using to pull me down those stairs.

While she didn't allege that Cosby raped her, she did allege that Cosby physically assaulted her.

Chloe Goins

Chloe Goins Cosby accuser

In January, a 25-year-old woman named Chloe Goins told the Los Angeles Police Department that Cosby had assaulted her at the Playboy Mansion when she was 18, according to CNN.

While few details of her case have been revealed, it's notable because the alleged assault took place in 2008. California has a 10-year statute of limitations on rape cases, making the case the first that could lead to criminal charges, according to her lawyer, Spencer Kuvin.

"She was drugged. She doesn't know what happened, she blacked out and woke up finding Mr. Cosby over her as she was in a state of complete undress," he said, according to CNN.

"I don't want to go into details about what he was doing, and I don't believe any of these cameras can actually publish what he was doing," Kuvin told reporters.

Lili Bernard and Sammie Mays

Gloria Allred In May, celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred held a press conference to announce that two more women were accusing Cosby of assaulting them: writer Sammie Mays and Lili Bernard, who guest-starred on "The Cosby Show."

Mays claimed Cosby drugged her in the late '80s when she was writing about a convention in New Orleans that Cosby attended, according to USA Today. She believes he raped her while she was unconscious.

Bernard says Cosby drugged, raped, and threatened her in the studio of the "Cosby Show" in 1992. She said she still has panic attacks.

"I stand here to take back my power and to confront the fear that has paralyzed me for so many years," Bernard reportedly said during the press conference with Allred.

While Bernard tried to have criminal charges against Cosby filed in New Jersey, a prosecutor there ultimately decided not to file any

Others who came forward

Angela Leslie, a former model and actress, claimed in a New York Daily News report published in November that Cosby assaulted her in a hotel room more than two decades ago. She said she met him in 1990 after she sent him a letter and photo hoping to land a role in his movie "Ghost Dad."

Cosby reportedly then invited her to the set of his show. She said the alleged assault happened in a hotel suite in 1992 when Cosby asked her to audition for him. Leslie said he gave her a drink and told her to act like she was intoxicated. She didn't drink what Cosby gave her, but after she came out of the bathroom, Cosby was reportedly lying in bed with his clothes off. Leslie alleges that Cosby took her hand and had her fondle him while he was in bed.

Carla Ferrigno, who is married to the actor Lou Ferrigno, has come forward and said that she experienced an unwanted sexual advance from Cosby at a party in 1967 when she was just a teenager. She was reportedly working as a Playboy bunny in Los Angeles when she was invited to Cosby's house. At one point in the evening, Ferrigno was alone with Cosby playing pool, she said. He then forcefully grabbed her and kissed her, she claimed.

She said: "I had never been treated so roughly and he pulled me hard to him so hard. And then kissed me so hard, right in the mouth. No one has ever been that physically violent with me. I was stunned. I was frozen. I took all my body strength and used both of my arms to stop him and push him away from me. He was so forceful."

Kristina Ruehli, a New Hampshire woman who says she was one of the unnamed witnesses in the Constand suit, told Philadelphia Magazine that Cosby drugged and tried to sexually assault her in 1965 when she was 22 years old. She said she met Cosby while she was working as a secretary at a talent agency in Beverly Hills. He reportedly invited her to a party at his home one night, but when she arrived, no one else was there. Cosby allegedly gave her two drinks, and after that everything became "foggy," she claimed. She eventually wound up in one of the bedrooms in the house. Cosby then allegedly tried to force Ruehli to perform oral sex on him. She said she pushed him away, ran into a bathroom, and started throwing up. When she came out of the bathroom, Cosby was reportedly gone, and she left his house.

Renita Chaney Hill, a Pittsburgh woman, told KDKA News that she had a four-year-long relationship with Cosby in the 1980s. She said she believes he drugged and likely raped her when she would go visit him. She was 15 years old when she met him. Hill told KDKA Cosby would fly her to various cities and she would visit him at his hotel room at night. He would allegedly insist that she drink even though he knew she was underage.

Hill claimed she would wake up the next day and not remember anything, despite not having that much to drink. She said that during one incident, right before she passed out, she remembers him kissing and touching her.

Linda Traitz, a woman who met Cosby in 1969 when she was waiting tables for a restaurant he coowned in West Hollywood, came forward to accuse Cosby of sexual assault in an interview with The Washington Post. She said Cosby chatted her up one day at the restaurant and offered her a ride home.

But instead of going home, Cosby drove to the beach and took out a briefcase that had "assorted sections in it, with pills and tablets in it, different colors arranged and assorted into compartments," she told The Post. She said she told Cosby that she didn't want any of the pills, but he reportedly kept insisting. He then allegedly lunged at her and grabbed her chest. When she ran out of the car and onto the beach, he allegedly pursued her and offered to take her home.

Victoria Valentino, a former Playboy bunny, told The Post that she met Cosby in 1970. Another Playboy bunny knew Cosby and introduced him to Valentino, who reportedly met him for dinner with a friend one night following their initial meeting. Cosby reportedly offered Valentino and her friend red pills at the end of dinner. She said she then began slurring her words and "couldn't function."

Cosby then reportedly drove the pair to an apartment under the pretense of showing them memorabilia from his popular "I Spy" show. It was there that he allegedly assaulted Valentino. She said she never went to the police because "in those days, it was always the rape victim who wound up being victimized."

Shawn Brown, the only woman Cosby admitted to sleeping with, told the Daily Mail in November that he also drugged her and raped her

Judy Huth filed a lawsuit in December claiming Cosby sexually assaulted her at the Playboy Mansion when she was 15 years old.

Helen Gumpel, who appeared on a single episode of "The Cosby Show," came forward in February and said Cosby made lewd advances toward her 1977, according to the Associated Press

Sunni Welles and Margie Shapiro claimed in March that Cosby sexually assaulted them in the '60s and 70's when they were teenagers, according to Reuters.

Autumn Burns, Marcella Tate, and Janice Baker-Kinney, who are all represented by Gloria Allred, came forward in April to claim they'd been raped by Cosby in the '70s and early '80s

"All this time, and for many, many years, I felt this was my fault," Kinney said, according to USA Today. "I took the pills from him ... I never thought of it as rape ... I still felt like I was solely to blame."

We’re finally going to know what Obi-Wan Kenobi was doing before the original ‘Star Wars’

Star Wars ObiWan1

Many fans of “Star Wars” have always been curious what Obi-Wan Kenobi did all that time between “Revenge of the Sith” and “A New Hope.” Finally a new comic book from Marvel will bring some clarity.

Following “Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith,” we found Obi-Wan Kenobi (played by Ewan McGregor) heading out alone after bringing twins Luke and Leia to safety from their father Anakin Skywalker — who by then had become Darth Vader.

The original film in the sage, “Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope,” shows “Ben” Kenobi (played by Alec Guinness) as an elder Jedi living in seclusion on Tatooine until he’s thrust back into the Rebel cause after crossing paths with the adult Luke.

Kenobi dies by the hands of Vader in “A New Hope” and that looks to be where the comic book "Star Wars #7" begins (available July 8).

According to the book’s description on the Marvel site, Skywalker comes across Kenobi’s journals after returning to his home world of Tatooine following the events that occur in "A New Hope." The writings he uncovers are his master’s experience on the planet during “a time when injustice reigned.”

star wars darth vader obi wan kenobi

From the synopsis:

“As villainous scum runs rampant over the blistering sands, only a Jedi Master stands any hope of liberating the planet from the grasp of gangs, thieves and thugs. But would Ben risk everything to do what was right? Even if it meant revealing himself to those searching for his whereabouts?”

Here are some pages Marvel has previewed:

This shows Kenobi living an isolated existence on Tatooine.

And here it looks like he's come across a young Luke Skywalker (perhaps keeping tabs on him?).

Star Wars 7 Comics2

For the last year Marvel has been releasing a "Star Wars" series of comics that gives us insight into what happened to the main characters in the original trilogy following “Return of the Jedi.” #7 is a special one-off tale in the series focused solely on Kenobi.

Read up because all these tales may be of importance leading to the release of the next chapter in “Star Wars” lore, “The Force Awakens,” opening Dec. 18.

'Terminator Genisys' studied 'dash cam videos of real car crashes' to create this crazy Golden Gate Bridge sequence

terminator bus final

Warning: Spoilers ahead

Like the previous films in the "Terminator" franchise, “Terminator Genisys” isn’t stingy with its insane action sequences.

And one in particular goes out of its way to dazzle you as its filled with car crashes, a demolished school bus, and Arnold Schwarzenegger going through a windshield.

The scene happens in the middle of “Genisys,” when an evil John Connor (Jason Clarke) chases after the Terminator (Schwarzenegger), Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke), and Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) through San Francisco.

The three are trying to evade John while driving a large school bus (it’s a long story).

They all end up on the Golden Gate Bridge, leading to a showdown that won’t go well for anyone traveling on the bridge. With Sarah behind the wheel of the bus, she swerves in all lanes of traffic, hitting cars as she tries to shake John off the bus.

The Terminator and Reese are in the back of the bus trying to locate where John is, leading to John throwing the Terminator off the bus; inevitably ending up head-first into a cop car’s windshield.

terminator arnold windshieldJohn soon makes the bus inoperable by first disabling the brakes and then causing it to flip into the air and crash on the bridge. It then rolls to the edge of the bridge, hanging perilously over the side as Sarah and Reese are still inside.

Before the bus falls off the bridge, the Terminator is able to pull Sarah and Reese to safety.

terminator jumpThe sequence was first shot on set in New Orleans where the production team built a 500-foot long piece of the Golden Gate Bridge.

The shoot did some practical stunts, including car crashes and the school bus rolling. But, like many action movies, the magic happened in post production when visual effects house, Double Negative, got their hands on it.

Oscar-winning VFX supervisor Pete Bebb of Double Negative had 30 people working on the sequence, which took months to complete following early test screenings in which Bebb got word that more had to be done to the scene.

“I think the scene started off originally as a relatively shorter sequence with less action,” Bebb told Business Insider. “It turned out they wanted to flesh it out and have more crashes and cars turning over.”

To create more chaos on the bridge and the feel that the audience is right there with the characters, Bebb and his team went to YouTube for inspiration.

“We didn’t want to refer to other movies, so we just collected hundreds of clips from YouTube of dash cam videos of real car crashes,” he said. “It sounds dark, but it gave the sequence a little more.”

They were also responsible for making that 500-foot set of the bridge look like the real thing. That meant digitally increasing the speed of the bus and cars, giving more detail to what they shot on set (like the rolling bus) as well as extending the bridge digitally.

terminator rolling busHowever, one of the biggest challenges Bebb and his team had to take on was making sure their CG work matched what was filmed in New Orleans.

Bebb said their work isn’t just in front of computer screens. During production they went out to San Francisco and filmed every inch of the Golden Gate Bride to then use as background plates — the visuals they will put in back of the graphics they create.

But tweaking was needed to make what they shot look identical to what production did.

“Trying to attain day-lit vehicles is not as straight forward as people think,” said Bebb. “The New Orleans sky was very bright while in San Francisco it was a bit darker. So it was a pretty big challenge to make it all match.”

terminator bridgeBebb, who won an Oscar for the visual effects in “Inception,” has learned that in his line of work plans always change, so he believes the best way to succeed is to anticipate the bosses wanting more.

“I think there's a preconception that it's computers so it's easy to fix but it's not,” he said. “There's alway the line on set [to the VFX department], ‘You guys can fix that, right?’ Yes, we can, but it's a huge amount of work. Here's what actors in the 'Game of Thrones' cast looked like in their awesome audition tapes

"Game of Thrones" fans are used to seeing the polished versions of their favorite characters, but during Friday's panel at Comic-Con, their humble beginnings were revealed.

This audition reel shows original footage of Gwendoline Christie (Brienne Tarth), Pedro Pascal (Oberyn Martell), Natalie Dorner (Margaery Tyrell), and many more. The video cleverly splices together the dialogue from the tapes with the final scenes from aired episodes.

One of the clips sheds a bit of humor on a generally dark character. Catrice van Houten, auditioning for Melisandre — the red priestess fond of burning people alive — stumbled a line before laughing and saying, "I f*cked up.

For others, like Gwendoline Christie, it's apparent why they were given the part. Christie was auditioning for Brienne of Tarth, a large and unfeminine highborn lady who chooses a life of vengeance and fighting.

Christie gives off the perfect vibe in this tape — confident, bitter, and ready to fight. You can tell from this production still below that she carried that same energy into her final performances.

There's tons and tons more in here, as well.

The Batmobile got a bit of a makeover at San Diego Comic-Con this week, courtesy of Hot Wheels.

At the Mattel booth, the brand brought its iconic 1969 Twin Mill, called "one of the most recognizable and popular Hot Wheels casting for generations," to life. Its black and blue wrapping and logos make it the perfect vehicle to cart around the dynamic duo in the upcoming "Man of Steel" sequel, "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."

The movie doesn't premiere until spring 2016, and neither does Mattel's toy version of the car — though a prototype drew crowds.

Let's take a closer look at the life-sized, driveable car.

For reference, here's what an original Twin Mill car by Hot Wheels looks like.

Harrison Ford on young 'Star Wars' cast members: 'Life as they knew it is no longer possible'

harrison ford sdcc 2015Harrison Ford says the young actors in the new "Star Wars" movie need to prepare themselves for both the light and dark sides of fame.

"It's too late for them. I mean, it's over. Life as they knew it is no longer possible," he said. "You've checked in for the biggest ride there ever was."

The 72-year-old actor appeared alongside fellow "Star Wars" veterans Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher at Comic-Con Friday for a presentation on the anticipated seventh installment in the space saga, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." Director JJ Abrams and new members of the "Star Wars" family, including Adam Driver, Gwendoline Christie, Domhnall Gleeson and Daisy Ridley, were also on hand.

Ford said he told Ridley, "Your life will change and you will get used to it."

"You will be by turns happy and delighted and employed, and then you'll wonder what the hell happened, every once in a while," he said. "... The natural state of an actor is to observe life around them. And now you have to figure out how to do that when all anybody is looking at is you."

"The Force Awakens" is set to hit theaters in December.

Here's the new 'Batman v Superman' trailer that just got a standing ovation at Comic-Con

Warner Bros. is delivering during its huge movie panel at San Diego Comic-Con, on Saturday.

After debuting new footage for movies "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." and Peter Pan adaptation "Pan," the studio floored the crowd in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con with footage from its upcoming DC cinematic universe, including next summer's DC villain movie, "Suicide Squad."

However, the biggest reveal was a new trailer for "Batman v Superman."

Fans are going nuts over it.

Apparently, it was so good that the audience stood up to give it the applause it deserved.

Before it had the chance to possibly leak online, Warner Bros. released it themselves.

Great move!

The new 'Batman v Superman' trailer hints at the Joker

0
0

If you've been following online rumors, word on the street is that Jared Leto's "Suicide Squad" Joker may cameo in next year's anticipated "Batman v Superman" movie.

Well, that's starting to look like less of a rumor!

The Clown Prince of Crime was hinted at in the new "Batman v Superman" trailer that debuted at Comic-Con Saturday.

First, check out the trailer here if you haven't seen it.

Okay.

Did you spot the reference?

Batfans will be quick to notice the costume on display belongs to a former Robin, Batman's sidekick.

The writing on the suit, "HAHAHA JoKe'S on you BATMAN," is left by Bats' nemesis The Joker.

If you know the history there, it's a dark story between the dynamic duo and the Joker. I'm not going to spoil it here in case it's something further movies will adapt.

Now, we certainly may not see the Joker in "Batman v Superman."

This may just be a nod to the jokester in this film. Even if we don't see him in some form (flashback or in the flesh) in "BvS," it looks like the DC Universe has some big plans in store for him.

We can't wait.

"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is in theaters March 25, 2016.

We finally know why Batman is going head-to-head with Superman

batman superman comic con 3

At Comic-Con on Saturday the Warner Bros. panel turned out to be one of the highlights of the day with its showing of an over three-minute trailer for “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

In fact, it got a rare standing ovation from the crowd.

Warner Bros. quickly put the trailer online, and, from the looks of it, we are given a very big clue to why the Caped Crusader is so upset with the Man of Steel.

In fact, it goes back to Zack Snyder’s previous Superman film, 2013’s “Man of Steel.

You may recall that in the conclusion of that movie Superman (played by Henry Cavill), in an attempt to defeat General Zod (Michael Shannon), almost obliterates Metropolis.

man of steel comic conWell, from the footage shown at Comic-Con, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) was there and was not pleased with what went down. Even running head-on into the rubble to save people.

It appears Wayne Tower was decimated in the fallout from Superman's big fight with Zod.

The new ‘Batman v Superman’ trailer gives us our first good look at the new Wonder Woman

Warner Bros. stunned fans Saturday at Comic-Con with a new trailer for "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."

The over three-minute video has a lot to unpack.

Batman and Superman aside, one of the most exciting parts of the trailer didn't have anything to do with either caped hero.

Instead, we finally got our first good look at Gal Gadot ("Fast and Furious" franchise) as Wonder Woman.

Fans have been clamoring for a big female superhero on screen and Wonder Woman is certainly the most recognizable (sorry Black Widow and Scarlet Witch).

How does she look?

Great.

The 'Suicide Squad' trailer fans went nuts over at Comic-Con has leaked online

0

Well, one for two isn’t bad.

While everyone is freaking out about the ‘Batman v Superman” trailer, many fans are freaking out about another trailer Warner Bros. debuted during its big movie panel which has since leaked online.

The trailer for next summer’s “Suicide Squad” movie wowed crowds at Comic-Con. The film, which revolves around a group of DC villains and anti-heroes, will be the first movie to feature a new actor taking on the iconic role of the Joker since the death of Heath Ledger.

Jared Leto will fill his shoes, and screaming fans were pleasantly surprised to see a tattooed Clown Prince of Crime on screen.

While Warner Bros. was quick to get most of the leaked versions down from YouTube, footage from the trailer is still popping up online. You almost wonder why Warner Bros. didn’t release both of its trailers online, rather than risk the chance of one of them leaking.

Check out the trailer below via MovieWeb.

We’re sure it won’t be up for long.

The studio surely isn't the luckiest when it comes to leaked footage.

At last year's Con, footage for the "Batman v Superman" film leaked quickly online and took a few days to get pulled down. The first official trailer for the film leaked online ahead of its planned release earlier this year at a fan event.

12 things we learned from the new 'Batman v Superman' trailer

0

batman superman comic con 2

The second "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" trailer debuted at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, and it was absolutely jam-packed.

Clocking in at nearly three and a half minutes, the trailer gives us our first look at the plot of the film alongside a plethora of Easter eggs and glimpses at what the wider DC Universe will look like in the movie.

Let's dive right in.

They're addressing one of fans' biggest issues with "Man of Steel."

A big problem a lot of fans had was the widespread destruction in the big finale to "Man of Steel." The movie sort of acted like it was no big deal. "Batman v Superman" looks like it's going to take this head on, revealing that Bruce Wayne was at the scene, and he's very, very angry.

We finally know Batman's big problem with Superman.

Now that we know Bruce was in Metropolis when it was nearly leveled, we learn the personal stake he has in it — one of his buildings was completely destroyed in the fight, and Wayne feels responsible for the people who died on his watch.

This Batman is kind of messed up.

Ben Affleck's portrayal of Batman is the angry, ruthless sort with none of the deep sadness that seemed to haunt Christian Bale. He also seems to take things a bit too far — it looks like he even brands criminals he apprehends!

Amazon wanted to save fan favorite 'Hannibal' from cancellation, but it wanted to rush the next season

During the “Hannibal” panel at Comic-Con Saturday afternoon, showrunner Bryan Fuller divulged that the recently cancelled NBC series could have had a second life on Amazon.

Amazon “would like to have done it,” Fuller said to a room full of Fannibals, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Fuller expressed that it wouldn’t have worked out though because the streaming platform wanted them to rush to put together the next season.

"[They] wanted to do it very quickly and I wanted to be able to get all the scripts in advance before we started shooting a fourth season and their desire to put it out immediately was impossible for us to do," said Fuller.

Netflix couldn't pick up the show due to Amazon's streaming deal for the series.

Fuller confirmed that during the panel.

However, there’s still hope for “Hannibal” to live on, fannibals, the affectionate name Hannibal fans refer to themselves as.

"We are still looking; we don't have a lot of answers and we're looking at the possibility of a feature," Fuller said, according to THR. "So we have Hugh and Mads, who are very committed to the show and would love to continue with the show. The way this season ends, we have the opportunity for a break and hopefully we'll be able to find a way to bring Mads and Hugh back to you."

The Muppets hilariously crashed the Comic-Con panel for their upcoming TV show

Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, and more beloved Muppets characters crashed the San Diego Comic-Con panel for their upcoming ABC sitcom, “The Muppets."

The audience was first treated to never-before-seen test footage that the creators pitched, which introduced the show’s hyper-meta concept.

The “mockumentary”-style show, à la “The Office," follows the gang behind-the-scenes of Miss Piggy’s late-night talk show, “Up Late with Miss Piggy.”

Everyone has their role: Kermit the Frog, executive producer; Fozzie Bear, on-air sidekick; the Swedish Chef, craft services. The Great Gonzo, Rizo the Rat, and Pepe the King Prawn staff the writers’ room. The cast list goes on, drawing from nearly 40 years of content spawned by Jim Henson’s genius.

Puppeteering legends Steve Whitmire, Eric Jacobson, Bill Barretta, and Dave Goelz brought their fuzzy friends to life after retrieving them from under the table about 20 minutes into the panel. From the moment America’s favorite crustacean, Pepe, emerged, the crowd went berserk.

In character and speaking off the cuff, Rizzo trolled Fozzie for his corny jokes. Gonzo contemplated the perils of online dating. Kermit and Miss Piggy partook in grating small-talk about the status of their love lives.

The panel gave a glimpse into the lives of the Muppets as we’ve rarely seen them before. It certainly set the stage for ABC’s reboot, which premieres September 22.

Bill Prady, co-creator of CBS’s Emmy-darling “The Big Bang Theory,” who cut his teeth as a production assistant at Jim Henson Productions, promised the audience it will touch on themes and topics over kids’ heads. In the style of “The Muppets Movie” and "Muppets Most Wanted," there will be jokes for every age of viewer.

And in keeping with the Muppets’ tradition, the team will forever be forced to decide between "doing things the way things should," Prady said, and doing things for the betterment of a friend.

As the puppeteers wrapped up, the audience treated them to a roaring standing ovation.

We can't wait to see the shenanigans unfold this fall.
