the walking dead season 6 keyart

San Diego Comic-Con is this week!

From July 9-12, over 130,000 fans will head out to the San Diego Convention Center dressed as their favorite pop culture icons, to get exclusive swag, indulge in pop-up exhibits, and for the chance to rub elbows with the stars of some of their favorite movies and TV shows.

Now in its 48th year, one of the biggest draws is getting into one of the two main venues, Hall H and Ballroom 20, where panels for some of the most-anticipated movies and TV shows take place.

Big announcements are expected from Warner Bros., 20th Century Fox, "The Walking Dead" crew, and more over the next few days.

Business Insider will be on the ground to take in the entire scene.

What can you expect to hear from SDCC 2015?

Here are the biggest panels we're excited to see.

Some new footage of "Sherlock"

When: Thursday 7/9, 3:45 PM PST

It's been well over a year since the third season of "Sherlock" aired.

If you've been impatiently and anxiously awaiting the fourth season to return in 2016, the panel should hopefully deliver some footage of what to expect along with some long-awaited answers after the cliffhanger season 3 finale.

Did we miss you "Sherlock"? You bet.

The "Game of Thrones" panel

When: Friday 7/10, 2:30 PM PST

Is Jon Snow alive or isn't he?

Surely, we won't get any answers to the season five ending; however, the cast and crew will probably divulge on some behind-the-scenes stories and give hints at what's in store for season six.

Maybe we'll even get an update on when the next book, "The Winds of Winter," is coming out.

The "Hannibal" panel

When: Saturday 7/11, 5 PM PST

The critically acclaimed NBC series was recently canceled. Netflix and Amazon have both turned it down for a fourth season

With hopes for the show's future dwindling, this could be one final hurrah for Fannibals to unite. Who knows, maybe there  even find out if their beloved show will live on for a fourth season elsewhere.

At the least, there will probably be some fond memories shared by the cast and creator Bryan Fuller.

The comedy duo directing the Han Solo 'Star Wars' movie are killing it in Hollywood right now

Tuesday afternoon news broke that the second "Star Wars" spinoff movie will focus around a young Han Solo.

The news was confirmed with a post on StarWars.com.

More interesting than the news of the film, which will be released May 2018, is the team who will be directing it.

If you're not familiar with the pair, you should be.

We've talked about the dynamic duo a bit before

Just about everything they touch turns to box-office and comedy gold.

Here's a quick list of the projects they've directed in the past:

"21 Jump Street"
"
22 Jump Street"
"Cloudy with a Chance
of Meatballs"
"The LEGO Movie"

What do all of these films have in common? They were break out successes with low costs but high gross intakes.

Here are three of their films:

chris miller phil lord box office

2014's "22 Jump Street" continued the trend grossing $331.3 million on an estimated $50 million budget. Miller and Lord are producing another sequel to that franchise.

As for "The LEGO Movie," while the two won't be back in the director's seat for the direct sequel, they will be producing not one, not two, but three "LEGO" movie followups ("The LEGO Batman Movie," "Ninjago," and "The LEGO Movie Sequel").

They're also the minds behind Fox's popular fall comedy "The Last Man on Earth."

Lord and Miller are basically the team everyone wants to be working with in Hollywood right now, so it's little surprise they were tapped for one of the six announced "Star Wars"-related films.

Plus, working with Lucasfilm will be a bit like return to old roots.

THR reports Miller was once an intern at Lucasfilm who wore a Stormtrooper costume for a special edition of one of the "Star Wars" films.

It sounds like the two will be right at home.

French comic books are coming to America, and they look fantastic

Curse of the Wendigo #1

San Diego Comic-Con's proper name is Comic-Con International: San-Diego, but most of what makes headlines is strictly domestic.

This is unfortunate, as there are hundreds of amazing comics that come from publishers all over the world — many of which have a presence at the annual convention.

Still, it's hard to get excited about things that are hard to find, and when you don't have the reach of Marvel or DC, it's easy to get lost in the noise.

But one French publisher is boldly jumping out into the fray. On the Monday before Comic-Con, noted French comics publisher Delcourt Group announced a partnership with digital comics retailer Comixology to make more than 150 French titles available in English.

In a statement announcing the news, Comixology CEO David Steinberger called it "the beginning of the 'French Invasion' of comics in the English-language market."

While time will tell if Steinberger's on to something or not, French comics have begun to slowly penetrate American pop culture over the past few years — critically acclaimed movies like "Blue is the Warmest Color" and "Snowpiercer" are both based on French comics, and graphic novels like "Beautiful Darkness" and "Last Man" have received overwhelmingpraise by the US comics press after being translated to English.

snowpiercer chris evans axe battleIt also helps when some of these French titles, like "The Curse of the Wendigo" (one of Delcourt's debut titles on Comixology) feature talent already well-known in America — like artist Charlie Adlard of "The Walking Dead" fame, who collaborated on the title with writer Mathieu Missoffe.

"It was difficult to do it in a subtle way," Delcourt CEO Guy Delcourt told Business Insider, laughing about the sudden blitz of titles on Comixology. "Either you do it or you don't. We have such a big well of comics which are unknown to the American public, so it's a pleasure to dig into it, and hopefully to have people realize how diverse and thrilling a lot of them are."

Delcourt is a 29-year veteran of the French comics industry, and has visited the crowded floors of San Diego Comic-Con many times in the past, mostly looking for English-language comics to publish in his home country. Delcourt's company is the French publisher for comics ranging from "Star Wars" to "Hellboy," with some Japanese manga thrown in for good measure.Guy Delcourt.JPGWhen asked about what makes French comics special, Delcourt gives a simple answer: They're all personal.

"We don't have a main genre, like superheroes in the States, and we are very creator-oriented, so what probably makes them special is that each of them stems from the personality of the writers and artists," Delcourt told BI. "Also, the way they're created is probably — it's the least industrial thing you can imagine, I would say. Compared to comics or manga made in the studio way. It's very rare in France to have a penciller and an inker — usually the artist does it all most of the time, the color, too. So he or she would take one year to do fifty pages ... they try to make it as powerful and rich as possible. Not putting down American comics, I love them — but it's not the same approach."

It's this more intimate approach to comics that Delcourt hopes will resonate in the US and the rest of the English-speaking world. Choosing a digital partner like Comixology is certainly an excellent first step, since its the easiest way to reach new readers who aren't prone to wander into a comics shop — where the French comics format (called bandes dessinées) runs into another set of more logistical problems since they are larger than US comics and don't really fit standard comic racks.

"We know that it is not something that will happen overnight," says Delcourt. "We have a solid program for two years, and it will probably take more time. And I don't believe that French comics will work as a whole, because they are individual stories and have strong personalities. I don't see them as a global thing, like manga. Hopefully a few of them will work and will make people want to read more. And also, hopefully they will be read by professionals in the film industry. If some American films were created based on French comics, it would certainly be helpful, and it certainly is one of our indirect goals."

As for which title he has the highest hopes for, Delcourt mentions "Come Prima" by the cartoonist Alfred."I love the idea that you can have this story that is really heartfelt — it comes from his family, two brothers on a trip to Italy because their father has died," says Delcourt. "It is a road trip, something with feelings and emotions but it is also a very simple, straightforward story. So this is quite touching, and the artwork for me is also, for me, artistic, but also simple, very accessible. I do hope that it will reach quite a few people."

"All in all," says Delcourt, "I think [French comics] gives readers a different flavor — although the American audience will find things with which they are familiar: Horror, thrillers, supernatural stories, sci-fi, fantasy, etc — but done in a different way. What I hope is that this different way will make them special and interesting."

Judd Apatow blasts Bill Cosby: 'I absolutely would like to see him in jail'

Director and producer Judd Apatow has been one of the more prominent critics of Bill Cosby during the on-going claims of sexual assault against the 77-year-old comedian.

On Monday, Apatow took to Twitter to denounce Cosby again after an article from the Associated Press revealed documents from a 2005 deposition wherein Cosby admitted to obtaining Quaaludes with the intention of "giving them to young women he wanted to have sex with."

Later that day, in an interview with Esquire magazine, Apatow elaborated on the issue and also called on the comedian's wife, Camille Cosby, and his former "Cosby Show" co-star Phylicia Rashad to speak out against Cosby and voice support for the many victims who have come forth.

“I don’t think there is anything new here,” Apatow said. “It is only new to people who didn’t believe an enormous amount of women who stated clearly that he drugged them. We shouldn’t need Bill Cosby to admit it to believe forty people who were victimized by him."

He continued: "I am sure there are many victims who have not come forward. Maybe now more people in show business and all around our country will stand up and tell the people he attacked that we support you and believe you. I also hope Camille Cosby and Phylicia Rashad will now stand with the victims and not with their attacker.”

phylicia rushed bill cosbyIn January, Phylicia Rashad defended Cosby in an interview with Showbiz411, stating that the public should not believe his accusers. “What you’re seeing is the destruction of a legacy. And I think it’s orchestrated," Rashad said.

Rashad would later clarify her comments in an interview with ABC News, where she still voiced her support of Cosby, stating "What has happened is declaration in the media of guilt, without proof."

Well, now that there's proof, Judd Apatow and Cosby's many accusers are hoping that enough evidence will mount in the coming months to put Cosby behind bars.

"This guy pulled it off in such a way that he's not accountable for it," Apatow said in another Esquire profile from earlier this year. "He's a serial rapist. Everyone knows this is true."

"I absolutely would like to see him in jail," Apatow added on Marc Maron's WTF Podcast in June. "That's where people who commit sexual assaults go."

Read these awesome thank-you notes sent to 'SNL' head Lorne Michaels by celebrities after he put them on the show

Lorne Michaels

For comedians, getting hired as a "Saturday Night Live" cast member can launch your career.

If you're an actor, musician, or politician, getting to host, or even just make a brief appearance, in an episode of "Saturday Night Live" can be a career highlight.

In exchange for a little bit of time on America's most famous sketch show, celebrities who appear on the show often send producer Lorne Michaels thank-you cards. Many of these cards can be seen on display at "Saturday Night Live: The Exhibition," which can be seen at 417 Fifth Avenue in New York City.

SNLThanksThe personal stationary on display often says a lot about what "SNL" means to many people. Here are a few of the best ones:

P. Diddy has a drawing of himself on his stationary.

SNL P Diddy

To Lorne,

Thank you for all of your help! God Bless, Puff Daddy 98

Sean "P. Diddy" Combs has been on "SNL" several times. His most recent appearance was in 2010, when he also did a sketch with Andy Samberg.

Oprah wrote a lengthy letter on simple stationary.

OprahThanks

Lorne,

Thank you for the opportunity to work with you and your inspired staff.

It was exhilarating! I'll never forget this experience or you.

I do love the way you walk into a room.

Sincerely,

Oprah

Oprah hosted "SNL" on April 12, 1986, with musical guest Joe Jackson. This was about two months after she was nominated for an Oscar for "The Color Purple."

Mayor Rudy Giuliani sent Lorne a personal note.

Rudy Thanks

Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani appeared multiple times on "Saturday Night Live," perhaps most memorably on the show's first taping following September 11.

Besides that serious moment, Giuliani was known for bringing a lot of humor to "SNL," having appeared on the show several times. He was not afraid to make himself look ridiculous. In one sketch, he boxed Will Ferrell, who was playing Attorney General Janet Reno.

The late Phil Hartman was grateful for "the opportunity to serve."

PhilHartmanThanks

Dear Lorne,

It was not without its blood, sweat, and tears; but the thrills and the glory remain prominent in my mind.

Thanks for the opportunity to serve.

Forever yours,

Phil

Hartman was a cast member from 1986 to 1994. During that time, he created such classic characters as Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer and did an uncanny Bill Clinton impression.

Jimmy Fallon thanked Lorne Michaels after his audition.

FallonThanks

Lorne,

I just wanted to say thank you for the opportunity to test for SNL. It was very exciting for me. I hope you have a great season.

Sincerely,

Jimmy Fallon

P.S. Happy Halloween!

Fallon always seems like the most polite guy in the room, so it is no surprise that he would write Lorne a personal thank you after his audition. During his audition, Fallon made Lorne laugh with his spot-on Adam Sandler impression. The very serious Lorne is typically known for keeping a straight face during auditions. Fallon later did the impression on the show during a Celebrity Jeopardy sketch.

This also might have been practice for the Thank You Notes segment that Fallon did on "Late Night" and still does on "The Tonight Show."

Michael Douglas says American actors are too ‘social media image conscious’

Michael Douglas

In the upcoming “Ant-Man,” Michael Douglas proves that at 70-years-old he can still play a convincing tough guy. But he can’t say the same for the contemporary male American actor.

In an interview with The Independent, Douglas said that actors in Britain and Australia are “taking many of the best American roles from them.”

“In Britain they take their training seriously while in the States we’re going through a sort of social media image conscious thing rather than formal training,” he told The Independent. “Many actors are getting caught up in this image thing which is going on to affect their range.”

And Douglas wasn’t done.

“With the Aussies, particularly with the males it’s the masculinity. In the US we have this relatively asexual or unisex area with sensitive young men and we don’t have many Channing Tatums or Chris Pratts, while the Aussies do. It’s a phenomena.”

Douglas knows a thing or two about playing characters with masculinity.

wall street greed michael douglasIn his hey-day of the late 1980s and early 1990s, he was known best for playing hard-nosed characters like the shrewd Wall Street trader Gordon Gekko in “Wall Street” and police detective Nick Curran in the sexually-charged “Basic Instinct.

Douglas' comments come on the heels of Dustin Hoffman’s criticism of Hollywood earlier this week in which he said he believes the current state of movies is “the worst that film has ever been.”

Paramount has struck a deal that could change theatrical releases forever

paramount logo large

Paramount Pictures is partnering with two leading theatrical distributors for an unprecedented theater/digital revenue sharing plan that could change the way we watch first-run releases.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Paramount, AMC Theaters and Cineplex Entertainment have struck a deal in which two of the studio’s upcoming low budget horrors, “Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension” and “Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse” will be available in theaters exclusively for only two weeks before going onto digital home release platforms.

Since the VCR-era of the 1980s, the standard for studios has been waiting 90 days after a movie debuts in theaters before the title is available on other platforms.

According to the agreement, The Wrap reports, AMC and Cineplex will receive a percentage of any of the studio’s revenue for the period titles are available digitally through the 90 days of the initial U.S. release.

The WSJ story also states, if the early release plan is successful for the two horror titles, Paramount will make the strategy standard for its future films, which include franchises like “Transformers,” “Mission: Impossible,” and “Star Trek.”

This is not the first time a studio has tried to shrink the theatrical release window.

In 2011, Universal planned to release “Tower Heist” on VOD to Comcast cable subscribers in two cities at a premium price two weeks after the film debuted in theaters. That was quickly canceled following overwhelming resistance from the National Association of Theater Owners.

Tower Heist“Movie-lovers want us to respond and meet their desires. Exhibitors want to keep their businesses strong. Filmmakers want us to put a premium on the theatrical experience and optimize consumer access to their creations. Our hope and intent is that this initiative offers a degree of innovation that benefits all parties,” Brad Grey, chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures, told The Wrap.

“Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension” opens in theaters October 23, while “Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse” comes out October 30.

Archie comics are hipper and sexier than ever before and it's great

$

Archie #1Most of us know Archie Andrews. The freckle-faced, red-headed teen from Riverdale has been a staple of grocery store checkout lines for generations, where people of all ages would enjoy (mostly) wholesome tales about Archie’s adventures with his pal Jughead and the love triangle with Betty Cooper and Veronica Lodge.

Recently, though, Archie Comics has gone through a phase of radical reinvention.

First there was Kevin Keller, the first openly gay character in the Archie-verse. Then came “Afterlife with Archie,” an ongoing series that features the entire Archie cast facing a legitimately scary zombie apocalypse. Then, in the pages of “Life with Archie,” an alternate-universe story featuring a grown-up, married Archie — who died at the series’ end. And then there’s that 60s-era horror comic starring Sabrina, the Teenage Witch.

All of these recent moves aren’t notable because they’re crazy and outrageous, but because they’re crazy and outrageous and also really shockingly good comics.

And today, Archie’s hot streak continues with the much-ballyhooed reboot of the publisher’s flagship title, “Archie” #1, by Mark Waid and Fiona Staples.

If you’re not immersed in the comics world, it’s hard to stress how huge those names are, but  just look at the comic:

Archie2015_01 16

Archie. So hot right now.

The gorgeous art is by Fiona Staples, who works almost exclusively on “Saga” with writer Brian K. Vaughn, one of the best and most popular non-superhero comics you can read. Her updated takes on the entire Archie cast are wonderfully expressive and smartly fashionable.

Everyone is also really, really, ridiculously good looking. From Archie #1Writer Mark Waid is pretty much a storytelling genius who has spent much of the last thirty years writing classic stories about almost every superhero you can think of — most recently on the can’t-miss “Daredevil” with artist Chris Samnee. In short, this is a dream team, and they deliver.

“Archie” #1 is a fantastic read and a great introduction to Archie Andrews and his world (quite literally — much of the issue feature’s Archie breaking the fourth wall to introduce readers to everyone). It’s also further proof of how enduring the character is — really, Archie has always been a teen story where much of the comedy comes from giving its teenagers exactly what they want and gently making fun of them as they discover how things are always more complicated than they realize. It’s why the Betty/Veronica love triangle is such a cornerstone of the comics.

Speaking of Betty and Veronica, “Archie” is extremely clever in how it sets up that particular status quo. You’ll want to come back next month.

The first issue of the new “Archie” feels like the sort of teen sitcom that doesn’t get made anymore, a modern “Boy Meets World” but smarter, simpler, and hipper all at once. It’s effortlessly cool and charming, like a John Hughes movie without all the morose angst. It takes the classic Archie comics and makes them feel modern and relevant.

In short, it’s a perfect reboot that’s not just a great first Archie story, but a great first comic.

Have you ever been to Riverdale? It’s a nice place. I think I’ll stay a while.

The big twist in 'Terminator Genisys' was inspired by one of the most iconic Superman comics

$

terminator genisys john connor jason clarkeWarning: There are spoilers ahead if you haven't seen "Terminator Genisys"

The latest installment to the Terminator franchise, "Terminator Genisys," completely flips the franchise on its head.

John Connor, who has always been the last hope for humanity in a seemingly endless war against machines, has suddenly become the greatest weapon of AI system Skynet.

If the twist appeared to go against everything you believed in with "Terminator," the switch makes more sense if you think of it in an alternate universe.

We were surprised to learn that inspiration for that big twist came from one of the most critically-acclaimed Superman series.

During the press junket for the film, we asked screenwriters Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier about the choice to turn Connor into an upgraded model of the Terminator, the T-3000, and why Skynet would want Connor on their side.

"He’s [John] still a messiah — He’s just a messiah for someone else," Lussier told Business Insider.

"That’s the thing that’s interesting about John," added Kalogridis. "The gifts that he has are the gifts of the savior ... There’s a really great comic called Red Son, about Superman working for the Russians."

"Soviet union," Lussier interjected. "If you think of Skynet as an incredibly smart, uber smart … 'Hey there’s nobody smarter than me' Skynet. He’s gonna get tired of losing in the endless loop of time, because he gets to lose over and over again and kind of loops in on itself."

"In Skynet’s real case, those pesky humans, have this real ringer that always let’s them win," he added. "I can’t create my own ringer, so I’m going to steal theirs and make him mine."

For those unfamiliar with "Red Son," the three-part limited series released in 2003 asks, "What if Superman was raised in the Soviet Union?" This version of the Man of Steel fights for Stalin and socialism instead of truth and justice.

superman red son

When asking Kalogridis if "Red Son" served as inspiration for Connor's character she told us "absolutely."

The change to Connor's character in the film is so radical that initially many fans weren't sure what to think when the reveal for his character in the new film was given away in multiple trailers.

terminator genisys concept art john connor

However, Kalogridis and Lussier weren't worried about backlash for altering the character, especially since he exists in an alternate timeline, not a replacement timeline as Kalogridis puts it.

"Any time you take a narrative risk, artistically, I think that’s more interesting than not taking a risk. Whether fans will accept it or reject it, ultimately comes down in my mind to execution probably more than anything else," explains Kalogridis. "... Much like there would be no point to remaking the original “Terminator” because it’s about as close to perfect as I think you can get, and the second one is probably one of the greatest action films of all time and I think always will be …  without question. I think if you don’t do something that is a little risky than you don’t justify why you’re doing anything at all."

"Terminator Genisys" is currently in theaters.

In the movie, a teenager (Dylan Minnette) runs into the author R.L. Stine (Jack Black) and while reading through his "Goosebumps" manuscripts, accidently releases the evil horrors of his books. These popular movies are just seconds long when you only include the lines said by people of color

$

0

screenshot/"(500) Days Of Summer"

The movie "500 Days of Summer" runs 97 minutes. But if you edit it down to just the lines spoken by characters who aren't white, it only lasts 30 seconds.

writer named Dylan Marron has made it his mission to condense popular movies to show just how few people of color are featured on film. He's posting the results to his Tumblr, "EVERY SINGLE WORD," as spotted by The Guardian.

The Tumblr features popular movies, like "500 Days of Summer," reduced to only include the scenes where people of color speak.

The result: movies in under a minute.

Take a look at Marron's brief version of  "500 Days of Summer."

Several other movies have gotten the Marron treatment, too. Some of the worst offenders have no lines spoken by characters of color at all.

For example, take a look at this video excerpted from the 2014 musical film "Into the Woods." The 7-second clip opens with the final chorus of the movie's title song and then cuts directly to black.

“You’re asking me to believe that a giant is chasing you through the woods, but I can’t believe a person of color is in the woods?" Marron asked The Guardian.

The edits are even more startling when you consider films like 2014's "Noah" starring Russell Crowe. The biblical epic drew criticism for its complete lack of people of color in a story that is considered to have taken place in a region where white people, like Crowe, would have been the minority.

Marron's project also highlights the types of roles being played by people of color in major motion pictures.

The few lines in these films are not coming from main characters, but rather support roles, such as a secretary in "American Hustle," a physical therapist in "Black Swan," a bus driver in "500 Days of Summer" and a security guard in "Frances Ha."

Check out Marron's tumblr here

Don't blow through your data plan

Did you know you can adjust the quality of your Netflix stream?

If you're worried about using too much data when you watch something — maybe your internet provider has a bandwidth cap— go to the My Account page and select "Playback settings."

Beware — these changes make take up to 8 hours to take effect.

Clear your viewing history

Netflix used to make it really hard to remove programs you had watched from your viewing history, but now it's easy.

Under the My Account page, select "Viewing activity." From there, you can delete individual movies and TV episodes you've watched.

Now that embarrassing reality show won't show up in your suggestions.

It's Preview Day at San Diego Comic Con, a chance for the 130,000 self-proclaimed geeks in attendance to snag their badges and check out the interactive experiences set up outside the convention center.

With panels set to kick off at 10 a.m. Thursday morning, we're pretty surprised at the amount of set up that's still underway for the annual convention.

Still, after spending just an hour here, it's clear that the Con has taken over downtown San Diego.

Scroll below to see the attractions.

This is the San Diego Convention Center, located in the heart of the Gaslamp District. It's hosted San Diego Comic-Con since 1991.

Across the street is a maze of restaurants, shops, and hotels decked out for the five-day fandom extravaganza.

The trolleys bear advertisements for "Scream Queens," an upcoming horror-comedy anthology from the co-creators of "Glee" and "American Horror Story." The show will make its world premiere at the Con.

One of the biggest talent agencies in the world has dropped Bill Cosby

A publicist for Bill Cosby says Cosby is no longer represented by the Creative Artists Agency (CAA).

Deadline Hollywood reports Cosby was dropped from the roster "late last year" as multiple sexual abuse allegations began to mount against the legendary comedian.

CAA — which is the home to some of the world's most renowned actors, musicians and sports figures — represented Cosby since 2012. His release means he no longer has professional representation in Hollywood.

It's another setback for the 77-year-old embattled comedian. On Monday, details from a 2005 deposition surfaced, in which Cosby apparently admitted under oath that he used sedatives on young women he wanted to have sex with.

Since last year, dozens of women have emerged with sexual abuse allegations against. He has publicly denied the accusations.

Earlier this week, television networks Centric and Bounce — the last two networks still airing reruns of "The Cosby Show" — pulled the plug on the sitcom. Several of Cosby's business relationships have ended due to the scandal, and he resigned his trustee position with Temple University last year.

Walt Disney World removed a statue of Cosby from its theme park in Florida Tuesday night, the Associated Press reported.

The LAPD is currently investigating Cosby over the sexual abuse allegations.

Joker in GothamThere he is, you are almost definitely looking at the next Joker. Cameron Monaghan.

The Hollywood Reporter tipped us off Wednesday night to this menacing Instagram photo he posted below:

According to The Hollywood Reporter, fans had an inkling this was coming after Monaghan's creepy introduction on the show last season. They also note that Showrunner Bruno Heller told them the next season would have a ton of Joker in it, and tell the villain's back story.

As Comic Book Resources notes, right now Monaghan is being listed as playing a character named "Jerome." But that is likely to change with this news.

While it's not official confirmation, the writing is on the wall here, just look at that sinister-looking pale faced smile.

And if for whatever reason that doesn't convince you, just watch this clip of Monaghan in last season's 'Gotham.' Freaky stuff.

ESPN is ditching Keith Olbermann as network works to cut $100 million from the budget

Keith Olbermann is out at ESPN.

Fewer than two years after the television personality returned to the network, Olbermann will get the boot, again, as ESPN struggles to trim its budget.

The cost-cutting measures reportedly come from the top. ESPN's parent company, Disney, is looking to cut about $100 million from next year's budget and $250 million from 2017's budget, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

To that end, network executives had asked Olbermann to ditch his leased Times Square studio, where his program is produced for ESPN2, and either move to the network's headquarters in Bristol, Connecticut or to its studios in Los Angeles, THR reports.

That move could have saved the network tens of millions of dollars.

Finances aside, the network had also floated a challenging stipulation in contract talks with Olbermann. As a caveat to an extension of his 2-year deal, the network wanted him to stop offering commentary on his eponymous program, citing his handling of a handful of major NFL controversies last year.

Olbermann's departure ultimately comes down to "creative differences," according to one source cited by THR.

The 'Doctor Who' and 'Sherlock' showrunner totally wants to do a crossover of the two shows

Fans aren't the only ones who would love to see the Doctor and Sherlock on screen together.

"Doctor Who" and "Sherlock" showrunner, writer, and producer Steven Moffat would love to see a crossover between the two beloved characters happen, too.

During a press preview for the upcoming "LEGO Dimensions" video game, where Moffat and "Doctor Who" series stars Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman were present, the first bit of "Doctor Who" footage from the upcoming September release was shown.

The game allows players to interact with multiple characters from different franchise all in their respective worlds.

If that sounds confusing, it's not. In theory, Batman and Doctor Who, Gandalf ("Lord of the Rings"), and Scooby Doo could all team up in an adventure.

At the event, Moffat was asked if he'd like to see the Doctor team up with any other detectives, alluding to the BBC's "Sherlock."

"Seeing the 'Doctor Who' characters and Batman together, do you get any ideas about any other detectives you want the Doctor to meet maybe soon?" Moffatt was asked.

Instead of shying away, Moffat responded positively.

"Talk to all the rest, I'm fine with it," Moffat said. "My wife, [Mark] Gatiss, [Benedict] Cumberbatch, [Martin] Freeman — I'm fine with it ... I say yes. Yes to them!"

Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman of course star on the equally popular Sherlock Holmes series "Sherlock" on BBC.

Unfortunately no collaboration between the two series is currently in the works.

The ninth season of "Doctor Who" returns to BBC this fall.

"Sherlock" will return to TV in 2016.

Maybe one day the two worlds will collide on screen.
