Let's take a minute to talk about how crazy it is that 'Power Rangers' even exists

power rangers

Twenty years ago this week, "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie" premiered in theaters across America. For boys and girls of a certain age, this was a very big deal. "Power Rangers" was huge, premiering in 1993 and immediately making headlines like "The Mighty Nielson Power Rangers" thanks to its overnight success.

Of course, those news stories would also berate the series for "silly, non-menacing, obviously fake monsters, cheesy production, low-tech special effects and sometimes hokey stories." But it was a hit, because it was all about teens who beat up monsters and pilot giant dinosaur-shaped robots, two things every kid wants to do the second they get out of school (which was, by design, when the series aired).

Power Ranger Zords

But when you consider how it was made, it's absolutely crazy that the "Power Rangers" TV series succeeded to spawn a franchise that's still going strong to this very day, with roughly 20 iterations on the classic formula so far. Or that enough people in charge of various companies saw it and said "Yes, this is a great idea, let's do it! Teenagers with attitude!"

In case you aren't someone who compulsively googles the history of children's television shows, what makes "Power Rangers" an unlikely success story isn't that its premise is absurd (it totally is) but that its production was.

Essentially, what we call "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" was in fact two separate productions. The meat of "Power Rangers" comes from Japanese Super Sentai series — shows about color-coordinated superhero teams using martial arts to take on rubber monsters. What "Power Rangers" did was take footage from these Super Sentai shows, film completely new footage with an American cast and crew, and splice them together to make a half-hour action series for children.

The costumed fight scenes and giant robot confrontations were almost always dubbed Japanese footage, while the "Saved By the Bell" style high school cheesiness was used to weld a crude story arc to each episode and season.

It was the kid's TV equivalent of Frankenstein's Monster, given life by a mad TV executive to become something big enough to spawn a Hollywood movie.

And what a movie.

"Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie" is, objectively, terrible. It has terrible acting, terrible special effects, terrible writing and terrible music on its soundtrack.

But "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie" is also kind of amazing. Just look at this making-of featurette!

Look at those goofy bird monsters!

Power Rangers goofy bird monstersThose goofy ooze monsters!

Power Rangers goofy ooze monstersThe awful CGI that looks like "Beast Wars" in a miniature city! How excited Jason David Frank (the White Ranger) is to talk about anything! And They Might Be Giants was on the soundtrack!

On its twentieth anniversary, I probably will not watch "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie." But I will definitely think about it a lot. Take a moment to think about it with me.

Lol.

The "Magic Mike" sequel was a huge disappointment at the box office opening weekend

Women were not out in full force for "Magic Mike" this weekend.

The sequel to the surprise 2012 hit, was not as big as analysts thought it would be over the holiday weekend.

The film opened to $11.6 million over the three-day weekend. Over the five-day weekend "Magic Mike XXL" brought in $26.7 million.

2012's "Magic Mike" made $39 million opening weekend on a $7 million budget.

Estimates for "Magic Mike" had it making between $45 million and $48 million over the five-day weekend.

Why didn't it perform as well?

Honestly, the sequel just wasn't as good.

"Magic Mike XXL," starts off on a pretty contrived premise. It gives a flimsy reason to explain the absence of some core characters from the first film in order to put the rest of the original crew back together.

From there, the film just turns into a male-bonding road trip to a stripper convention with multiple pit stops along the way. These act as excuses to show scantily-clad men dancing on women and ripping their shirts off. For some reason Michael Strahan is among those men in his own extended cameo. (Seriously, he gets about five minutes of screen time to himself where he's just doing his thing.)

Naturally, this is all expected from a film that is made to make women weak in the knees. However, it all feels too formulaic.

Some of the stops along the way make sense, others, not so much: a beach (Check), a club (Double check), a mansion overrun with male strippers operated by Jada Pinkett Smith's character (Sure, why not?), and a home filled with middle-aged women (Um. What?).

jada pinkett smith channing tatumThe best parts of the film included Tatum showing off his elaborate dance skills and ab-tastic body (and one scene from Joe Manganiello at a rest stop). The sequel would have benefitted from having him dance the entire film, but we've already seen him in "Step Up."

It looks like bad word of mouth got around about the sequel.

Take a look at the box-office intake per day for "Magic Mike XXL" over the weekend:

Wednesday: $9.3 million
Thursday: $5.7 million
Friday: $6.3 million
Saturday: $2.5 million
Sunday: $2.8 million

The film started out incredibly strong Wednesday before nosediving on Friday and plummeting to under $3 million on both Saturday and Sunday.

Luckily for Warner Bros. the sequel only cost an estimated $14.8 million to produce.

The other big film of the weekend, "Terminator Genisys," didn't have a huge weekend either.

"Jurassic Park" took the weekend once again with an added $30.9 million to add to its over $1.3 billion haul worldwide.

Folks in the Windy City who use services like Netflix and Spotify are going to be paying more than the rest of the country thanks to a new city tax.

Netflix new designThe Chicago Tribune has reported that the city has expanded its 9% city amusement tax to include streaming subscribers.

The tax is currently applied to the purchase of tickets to sporting events and concerts.

Netflix has confirmed that the tax will added to their subscription cost by September 1.

According to the Tribune story, the city will bring in an estimated $12 million each year and is a recent example of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel attempting to help the city’s budget woes through existing taxes.

The tax will apply to all paid subscriptions for streamed digital music, rented movies, and TV shows.

A Redditor ordered a Frozen-themed cake, but received something that looked like an alien instead

Redditors are having a good laugh over a cake that was supposed to look like a Disney Princess but instead resembled an alien who fell asleep in a tanning bed.

A Reddit user, OfficialBigHead, posted this photo yesterday.

Elsa Cake Frozen Alien

On the left, the photo shows the cake design that a family ordered for their young daughter's birthday party. The design in modeled after Elsa, the leading lady from Disney's 2013, Frozen. On the right, it shows the terrifying cake they received.

The post is captioned, "The cake that was ordered and the cake that arrived." It has already attracted over two thousand comments.

The instructions for how to make the Elsa cake were designed by a New York based company called McGreevy Cakes. The photograph on the left comes from McGreevy Cakes' website, though the actual cake was baked by an "unnamed baker," according to the Daily Mail.

Whatever the circumstances behind its creation, the cake that arrived seems better suited for an E.T.-themed party than a Disney Princess celebration.

6 must see acts at this year's Pitchfork Music Festival

pitchfork crowd 2014

You'd think it would be easy for Pitchfork Music Festival to get lost in shuffle.

Between Lollapalooza, North Coast and the increasingly nostalgia-fueled Riot Fest (not to mention popular street fests like Do Division and Wicker Park Fest), Chicago's festival scene is only getting more crowded by the year.

Over the past decade, Pitchfork Festival has built up quite the institution in Chicago's Union Park, curating exquisite lineups with the perfect balance of big-name headliners and dozens of indie darlings you've never heard of.

Pitchfork celebrates its 10th year in Chicago this summer, and this year's lineup certainly one of the best in the festival's history.

ChanceTheRapperThe headliner slots include local favorites Wilco and Chance the Rapper as well as the recently revived Sleater Kinney.

Run The Jewels, Future Islands, Chvrches and The New Pornographers also sit towards the top of the lineup.

While we couldn't be more excited about these sure-to-be epic sets, here are 6 lesser known acts that can't be missed.

Mr. Twin Sister (2:50 PM Saturday at Blue Stage)

mr twin sister pitchfork

Mr. Twin Sister's sound is ethereal, dreamlike and infinitely danceable. Their songs are heavily electronic but also feature beautiful instrumental work — the strings are most prominent and add another layer to their delicate dynamic. Their set should not be missed.

Mac DeMarco (5:30 PM Friday at Red Stage)

MacDeMarco

There's nobody on the scene right now quite like Canadian multi-instrumentalist Mac DeMarco. Some say he's filling the void left by experimental rock group Ween, and his jangly hooks, goofy demeanor and ability to crush in a live setting only further back this up. If psychedelic absurdity is your thing, don't miss him.

Viet Cong (1:45 PM Sunday at Red Stage)

vietcong pitchfork

Heavy, noisy and decidedly lo-fi, Canada's Viet Cong (featuring two members of now defunct Calgary band Women) are injecting some much needed life into the "art rock" scene. Their riffs are labyrinthine, euphoric and have that distinct "recorded in a garage" feel while somehow staying super catchy.

Todd Terje (7:45 PM Sunday at Blue Stage)

ToddTerje pitchfork

Todd Terje may be huge on the Scandinavian dance scene, but he's still relatively unknown in the states, but hopefully this summer's festival circuit changes that. Terje put out one of the best albums of last year, and despite the fact that a lot of these sounds are hard to reproduce live, hearing these tunes in a huge crowd is sure to be magic.  Terje has been performing with a full live band, so hopefully he's not just up there pressing keys on a laptop.

Panda Bear (6:25 PM Friday at Green Stage)

PandaBear pitchfork

Animal Collective fans rejoice — you can pretty much guarantee co-founder Noah Lennox's alter-ego Panda Bear is going to show the Pitchfork crowd a good time. Panda Bear is like Animal Collective's fun, dancier cousin, and fans of the indie-rock band as well as general EDM hounds will surely enjoy his set.

Jamie XX (5:15 PM Sunday at Red Stage)

jamie xx pitchfork

British producer Jamie xx is best known as a member of The xx, the indie pop group whose 2009 debut sat atop many 'best of' lists that year. He also remixed the words of the late, great Gil-Scott Heron to much critical acclaim.  Jamie xx just released his first solo album In Colour, and it's already being hailed as one of the best of the year. His set will be a far cry from the low-key, atmospheric tones of The xx and more of a bass-heavy, feel-good time.

Three day passes and Saturday tickets have sold out, but you can purchase tickets for Friday and Sunday here.

'Minecraft' is one of the most popular games on the planet. Microsoft spent $2.5 billion on it back in September and it has millions of fans.

This is our first new 'Minecraft' game, and it is quite a departure from what fans know, here is what Telltale games says about the new iteration of its game:

Minecraft: Story Mode is an adventure game, by Telltale Games, set in a Minecraft world. It is a five-part episodic series that will take you to the Nether, the Farlands, the End, and beyond! You will drive how the story flows through the decisions you make: what you say to people (and how you say it), and what you choose to do in moments of thrilling action.

Players will control protagonist Jesse throughout the season, as portrayed by actor Patton Oswalt. Jesse and his group of friends revere the legendary Order of the Stone; four adventurers who slayed an Ender Dragon. The Order is the very best at what they do: Warrior, Redstone Engineer, Griefer, and Architect. While at EnderCon, Jesse and his friends discover that something is wrong... something dreadful. Terror is unleashed, and they must set out on a journey to find The Order of the Stone if they are to save their world from oblivion.

Available to download soon for PC, Mac, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, compatible iOS devices, and Android.

PAUL MCCARTNEY: I was frustrated that John Lennon became ‘The Beatles’ after his death

John Lennon has been dead for 35 years, but that hasn't stopped his former Beatles bandmate Paul McCartney from talking about the dead singer and rehashing some of the same issues that tore the band apart back in 1970.

In a new interview with Esquire, McCartney opened up about Lennon's assassination and revealed that he initially resented how popular culture wanted to present Lennon as the main voice of The Beatles following his death.

"When John got shot, aside from the pure horror of it, the lingering thing was, 'OK, well, now John's a martyr. A JFK,'" McCartney said. "I started to get frustrated because people started to say, 'Well, he was the Beatles.' And me, George and Ringo would go, 'Er, hang on. It's only a year ago we were all equal-ish.'"

He continued: "Now the fact that he’s now martyred has elevated [Lennon] to a James Dean, and beyond. So whilst I didn’t mind that – I agreed with it – I understood that now there was going to be revisionism. It was going to be: John was the one."

Yoko Ono John LennonThe 73-year-old singer discussed how Yoko Ono, Lennon's widow, exacerbated the revisionism of Beatles history by saying "strange things" about Paul's place in the band.

"Yoko would appear in the press," McCartney said, "and I’d read it, and it said [comedy Yoko accent], 'Paul did nothing! All he did was book the studio...' Like, 'F--- you, darling! Hang on! All I did was book the f---ing studio?”

In the interview, McCartney also brought up the disputes he had with Lennon over whose name would be first in their songwriting credits, though they eventually settled on the famous "Lennon/McCartney" moniker.

"[Lennon] said, ‘OK, what we’ll do is we’ll alternate it: Lennon and McCartney, McCartney and Lennon.’ Well, that didn’t happen. And I didn’t mind," McCartney said.

But in the case of songs like "Yesterday," which Paul wrote himself and "which John actually had nothing to do with," McCartney wished the credit had gone to "McCartney/Lennon."

"The original artwork had 'Yesterday' by John Lennon and Paul McCartney and a photo of John above it," McCartney said. "And I went, 'Argh, Come on, lads.'"

And in the digital age, McCartney feels even more slighted by the "Lennon/McCartney" handle than he did before.

"You know how on your iPad there's never enough room? So it's kind of important who comes first," McCartney said. "Late at night I was in a hotel room looking online and I happened to see this music book, which has got all the songs in it, and it was 'Hey Jude' by 'John Lennon and...' and the space ran out."

We’re finally going to know what Obi-Wan Kenobi was doing before the original ‘Star Wars’

Star Wars ObiWan1

Many fans of “Star Wars” have always been curious what Obi-Wan Kenobi did all that time between “Revenge of the Sith” and “A New Hope.” Finally a new comic book from Marvel will bring some clarity.

Following “Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith,” we found Obi-Wan Kenobi (played by Ewan McGregor) heading out alone after bringing twins Luke and Leia to safety from their father Anakin Skywalker — who by then had become Darth Vader.

The original film in the sage, “Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope,” shows “Ben” Kenobi (played by Alec Guinness) as an elder Jedi living in seclusion on Tatooine until he’s thrust back into the Rebel cause after crossing paths with the adult Luke.

Kenobi dies by the hands of Vader in “A New Hope” and that looks to be where the comic book "Star Wars #7" begins (available July 8).

According to the book’s description on the Marvel site, Skywalker comes across Kenobi’s journals after returning to his home world of Tatooine following the events that occur in "A New Hope." The writings he uncovers are his master’s experience on the planet during “a time when injustice reigned.”

star wars darth vader obi wan kenobi

From the synopsis:

“As villainous scum runs rampant over the blistering sands, only a Jedi Master stands any hope of liberating the planet from the grasp of gangs, thieves and thugs. But would Ben risk everything to do what was right? Even if it meant revealing himself to those searching for his whereabouts?”

Here are some pages Marvel has previewed:

This shows Kenobi living an isolated existence on Tatooine.

America is over Arnold Schwarzenegger's movies

"Terminator Genisys" got off to a rough start at the box office opening weekend

After the five-day holiday weekend, the film grossed $44.2 million domestically at theaters, marking one of the lowest openings for the "Terminator" franchise.

While poor reviews for "Genisys" didn't help, the failure of "Genisys" to take off state side could be rooted in something else.

Schwarzenegger is not a big star domestically anymore.

Here are the box-office opening weekends for Schwarzenegger's last five films. We're leaving "Maggie" off of here since it was a limited release in 79 theaters.

MovieRelease dateOpening WeekendEstimated budget
"The Expendables 2"8/17/12$28.6 million$100 million
"The Last Stand"1/18/13$6.3 million$45 million
"Escape Plan"10/18/13$9.9 million$50 million
"Sabotage"3/28/14$5.3 millionn/a
"The Expendables 3"8/15/14$15.9 million$90 million

And here are the worldwide grosses for them, broken down by domestic vs. international gross.

While the numbers for Schwarzenegger's movies are low state side, "Sabotage" aside, they pick up overseas.

MovieWorldwide GrossDomestic GrossInternational Gross
"The Expendables 2"$305.4 million$85 million$220.4 million

"The Expendables 3"$206.2 million$39.3 million$166.9 million

The 67-year-old actor is just a bigger foreign action star.

So it's not a huge surprise Paramount Pictures, which released the film, did a lot of marketing for "Terminator Genisys" overseas in countries including Brazil, Germany, Australia, and France.

arnold schwarzenegger terminator While "Genisys" has made $44 million domestically, the film has already made double that ($85.5 million) internationally.

A Series of Unfortunate Events

In 2004, a big screen adaptation of the extremely popular book series Lemony Snicket's "A Series of Unfortunate Events" received a lukewarm reception and squashed any chances of a sequel.

However, Netflix, which has a habit of picking up cancelled properties, greenlit a TV series based on the series

Very little details are known about the series so far. It remains a guessing game as to whom will get the honor of playing Count Olaf.

A Series of Unfortunate EventsEarly Monday morning, after a long vacation weekend, a teaser trailer was released claiming it was for the Netflix series and almost immediately went viral. The trailer has now been viewed almost 787,000 times.

Series of Unfortunate Events Netflix

There was only one problem with this trailer: It is a fake. We first got suspicious after seeing the trailer was uploaded by a user named Eleanora Poe (the editor-in-chief of a newspaper seen in the books), rather than the official Netflix account. A Netflix representative later told Business Insider the teaser "was not released from Netflix and is not anything official."

Despite this, it is hard not to admire the craft and detail that went into this trailer.

This fanmade trailer is filled with references to the books.

The cast of 'Suicide Squad' has an on-set therapist for when things get too real

suicide squad

Inhabiting the mind of a supervillain can take its toll on an actor or actress, as we tragically saw in the aftermath of Heath Ledger's iconic Joker role in 2008's "The Dark Knight."

Perhaps that's why the new superhero film "Suicide Squad" — which features a number of heavy, violent performances, including a new Joker played by Jared Leto— finds director David Ayer taking no chances with the mental health of his villainous cast.

In an interview with E! News, Adam Beach, the actor playing Slipknot in "Suicide Squad," discussed how Ayer brought a "therapist" on the set to ensure that the actors can get deep enough in their characters without losing it altogether.

"David Ayer is about realism," Beach explained. "So if your character is tormented, he wants you to torment yourself. He wants the real thing."

suicide squadStill, for the sake of his all-star cast — which includes Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Leto — Ayer keeps the "therapist," who Beach says is really a "life coach," around the set to ensure that the actors' internal torment doesn't go too far.

"There's a friend of [Ayer's] that's very unique in making sure we have our ground," Beach said. "Us actors explore very fine thin lines going to the dark side and he wants to make sure we finish a movie and don't disappear somewhere and then don't show up for work."

Despite Ayer's somewhat cautionary approach, Jared Leto has reportedly gone all out with his Joker character both on and off set — ominously sending a live rat to Margot Robbie, bullets to Will Smith, and a "dead hog" to the cast.

This weekend, though, we did see a glimpse of lightheartedness peak through the chaotic set when Margot Robbie posted a photo of a birthday cake the crew made for her, featuring frosting-styled original comics of her Harley Quinn character.

If you don't follow comics, what makes this a big deal is Ellis' contribution. Warren Ellis is the writer behind countless original series like "Transmetropolitan" and "Planetary," as well as numerous superhero books where he often completely revamps characters to tremendous success (the "Iron Man" movies, in particular, owe a massive debt to Ellis' work). Ellis has many strengths as a comic writer, but spies and sci-fi are his calling cards — one would be hard-pressed to find a better marquee writer to take on Bond in the mainstream comics industry.

He's also British, which is a plus when it comes to Bond stories.

Here's the official description:

"James Bond returns to London after a mission of vengeance in Helsinki, to take up the workload of a fallen 00 agent... but something evil is moving through the back streets of the city, and sinister plans are being laid for Bond in Berlin."

James Bond 007 comic coverWhile "James Bond 007" will be set in the present (and feature a Bond that's different from the cinematic ones), Dynamite Entertainment has plans for the entire Bond mythos. In an interview with Comic Book Resources, Dynamite Senior Editor Jason Rybandt details the publishers plans for even more Bond comics, including adaptations of Ian Fleming's novels and a series of prequels set before "Casino Royale."

"James Bond 007" #1 is scheduled to launch in November.

Miss Universe fires back at Donald Trump after he called her a 'hypocrite' for keeping her crown

Miss Universe, paulina vegaMiss Universe 2014 Paulina Vega, a Colombian native, fired back at Donald Trump again on Monday after he called the beauty queen a "hypocrite."

Vega told Latina Magazine that his reaction is "comical." (emphasis ours)

"The most comical is using the word: hypocrisy. But I think what I’m doing is the least hypocrite thing I can do by using my voice clearly. By not renouncing my crown has nothing to do with what I do or what I don’t do. I have a legally binding contract and legal relationship with the organization and it’s not so easy for me, like the artists have done, to renounce and say, 'No. I’m not working for you anymore.' I have a contract of 1 year. So it's a much more complicated situation, but we have to understand that Trump is a very polemic person. I’m going to keep going forward and refuse his comments to affect me. Miss Universe the organization and I are much more than what that man says on Twitter."

Last week, Vega distanced herself from Trump and his recent comments about Mexico and Latin America in a statement posted on Instagram in both Spanish and English. Here's an excerpt:

"I find Mr. Trump’s comments unjust and hurtful. As a Colombian and as Miss Universe, I want to show my support and validate the sentiments of the Latin community. The Miss Universe Organization works independently from its owners. For the past 64 years, they have created partnerships with great charity groups and have helped thousands of communities. Their legacy of uniting countries from around the world has been inspiring to many. If the Miss Universe Organization shared any anti-Latin sentiments or any type of racial biases, I wouldn’t be in this position today. I strongly believe that dividing and categorizing humankind only holds it back. Acknowledging and embracing the differences that exist across humanity is the first step in real and substantial development. We must strive together in order to improve the common good."

Trump, the co-owner of the Miss Universe Organization, responded on Twitter close to 5 a.m. ET on Sunday by calling Vega a "hypocrite" for keeping her crown.

Trump has come under fire lately for comments he made during his campaign launch as a GOP presidential hopeful. In his speech, he said that people coming to the US from Mexico are rapists and drug runners.

"When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending its best....They're sending people that have lots of problems....They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists...and some, I assume, are good people."

In the days that followed, Trump didn't back down from his comments either. He said that it's "not just Mexico" but that people could be coming from all over through the border.

As a result, NBC ended its business relationship with Trump. The hugely-popular, NBCUniversal/Trump-owned Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants, which are both viewed by millions, will no longer air on NBC.

In a statement, Trump called NBC "weak" and "foolish" and suggested that he'd take NBCUniversal to court over ending its contract with him.

Univision also said it wouldn't air the pageants because of Trump's "insulting" comments. Trump has since filed a $500 million lawsuit against Univision.

Another blow is that Mexico has also said that its delegate will not participate in the Miss Universe pageant.

What's more is the Miss Universe Organization appears to have made an attempt to also distance itself from Trump. In a statement, the pageant pointed out that it's an independently-run company that's had many owners over its 64-year history. Trump isn't the one running the show.

Even the Miss Universe Organization's president Paula Shugart pointed out that Trump has hardly spent any time with the titleholders.

"I think our reigning Miss Universe has been at events with him maybe three times in the last seven months," Shugart told Entertainment Weekly in a recent interview.

The organization also pointed out that this year's Miss USA class includes six Latinas (four of whom are of Mexican descent). The reigning Miss USA 2014, Nia Sanchez, is also of Mexican decent.

The organization added in its statement: "While world politics and other influences will undoubtedly play a role, the pageant will always seek to transcend controversy. It is unfortunate that recent events beyond our control have only served to negatively impact the women who participate in the pageant, our state directors, our sponsors and our fans."

Last week, little-known network ReelzChannel aid it would broadcast the Miss USA pageant on July 12.

The 12 best Easter eggs in 'Batman: Arkham Knight'

batman arkham knight lex corp

"Batman: Arkham Knight," like every game in the "Arkham" series, is packed to the gills with Easter eggs and sly references to other characters and events in Batman's world. They're probably one of the best aspects of the series.

However, where "Arkham Knight" differs from the rest is in the substance of all these nods and references. While previous games focused pretty squarely on the wider Batman mythos, "Knight" doubles down on the world outside of Batman, making lots of references to other DC Superheroes and a few other supervillains.

Of course, this isn't a comprehensive list — development studio Rocksteady Games once famously hid a secret so well in "Arkham Asylum" that they had to rat themselves out years later — but it gives a good feel about how other heroes might fit into the world of the "Arkham" games.

Some light spoilers ahead.

There's a great nod to the Emmy-winning "Batman: The Animated Series."

"The Ghost in Gray" posters scattered around Gotham reference the "Batman: The Animated Series" episode "Beware The Gray Ghost," in which it was revealed Bruce Wayne was inspired to become Batman by the fictional Gray Ghost (voiced by '60s Batman Adam West). Years later, the actor who portrayed Gray Ghost returns to the spotlight to team up with Batman and stop the Mad Bomber (voiced by "Batman: TAS" creator Bruce Timm).

It's pretty meta.

The origin of Clayface.

Clayface is a pretty important character in the "Arkham" games, with a fun cameo in "Arkham Asylum" before taking on a bigger role in "Arkham City."

This poster is before all that, though, when he was just a horror movie actor in the classic film "The Terror." His path to villainy would begin when his studio would decide to remake "The Terror" — without him.

The Black Canary has a side gig.

If you watch "Arrow" or "The Flash" on the CW, chances are you might know about the DC superhero Black Canary— she doesn't appear in "Arkham Knight," but this club is named after her — and it's apparently frequented by the poker-card themed villains of the Royal Flush Gang.
