Justin Bieber Apologizes To His Fans In A Facebook Video

Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber reached out to his fans in a Facebook video on Thursday, saying he's "not who he was pretending to be."

The video came after Bieber appeared on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," where Bieber was visibly on edge.

"I was really nervous," said Bieber. "And I think I was nervous because I was afraid of what people are thinking about me right now."

Bieber admitted to acting arrogant and conceited in the past but seemed to want to turn the page on that behavior.

The pop star said growing up in the entertainment industry had been tough on him and claimed his public persona was a cover-up for who he really is.

"I just want to make the best impression on people and be kind, and loving, and gentle and soft  and although people can call me a softie — that's how my mom raised me."

Bieber's video has been viewed over 3 million times since he posted it.

Here's the full clip:

Stunning Photos Show Why California Has The Best Movie Theaters In The World

unnamed

There's nothing like going to see a movie. The whole experience — from picking what to see and grabbing snacks to getting the best seats, not to mention watching the movie — is a treat.

From massive multiplexes, 3-D movies, and IMAX cinemas, going to the movies has become a high-tech operation, but it wasn't always so.

From the late 1910s until the 1940s, a boom time for Hollywood and the movie industry, hundreds of beautiful and ornate "movie palaces" opened in metropolitan areas across the US. These theaters were palaces, featuring massive screening rooms with lavish and baroque architectural elements.

Most of these theaters have since closed and been demolished. But in California, some of these gorgeous spaces still exist and continue to show films to eager viewers hoping to take a step back in time.

Photographer Franck Bohbot has traveled to California from his native France to document these stunning California movie theaters in their glory. He has shared a selection of images here with us, and you can check out more on his website.

The Castro Theatre, in San Francisco, was built in 1922 and is a historical landmark. The theater has 800 seats downstairs and 600 in the balcony.

Hollywood's famous Chinese Theatre, now known as the TLC Chinese Theater, was built in 1926 and designed to look like a Chinese palace. Its entrance features now famous cement bricks, which bear the signatures and handprints of Hollywood stars.

Built by Sid Grauman, who constructed the Chinese Theater, Los Angeles' Egyptian Theater opened its doors in 1922 and hosted the first movie premiere, for "Robin Hood," later that year. Much of the theater was designed in an Egyptian Revival style, most likely because of the public interest in the excavation of King Tut's tomb about the same time.

Actor Ed Burns Is Obsessed With Taking Pictures Of His Model Wife Christy Turlington

In 2000, 32-year-old actor Ed Burns met 31-year-old supermodel Christy Turlington at a party in the Hamptons. By the end of the year, the twosome were engaged.

After a brief split in 2002, the couple reunited and tied the knot in 2003 when Turlington was 25 weeks pregnant with the couple's first daughter, Grace. In 2006, they welcomed son Finn.

Since the nuptials, the pair have been pretty obsessed with each other.

Well, mainly Burns with Turlington, but can you blame the guy? Not only is Turlington a top model who can command seven figures from a single client, but she's smart, too. Turlington graduated cum laude from NYU in 1999 after studying Comparative Religion and Eastern Philosophy. Today, she heads Every Mother Counts, which provides health education, medicine, and emergency care in poor countries.

Burns, no slouch himself, knows he's a lucky guy, and the actor/director's admiration for his wife can be traced back in 12 year of photos that we gladly pored over.

In April 2003, on the verge of their impending June wedding, Burns snapped photos of his fiancé on the red carpet during the "Confidence" premiere in Los Angeles. But don't worry, he made sure to wear the camera strap in case of getting bumped by any fans or paparazzi!

Ed Burns Christy Turlington 2At the movie's after party, Burns showed off his results to Turlington:

Pepsi Tells Us Why A Super Bowl Ad Should Never Just Be A One-Off

0

katy perry super bowl

Pepsi-owner PepsiCo is spending a huge amount of its budget on the Super Bowl this year.

It has a raft of ads and marketing activity planned for the big game across its portfolio of brands. Not least: Pepsi sponsoring the huge half-time show, which will feature Katy Perry and Lenny Kravitz. (We’ve listed everything we know so far about PepsiCo’s Super Bowl plans at the end of this article.)

Many other brands have started teasing their ad campaigns over the past few weeks as excitement builds toward kick-off on February 1. But PepsiCo says its Super Bowl campaign is the culmination of a season’s worth of activity.

We spoke over the phone with the chief marketing officer of Frito-Lay Ram Krishnan (which is promoting Doritos during the game) and Pepsi’s chief marketing officer for North American beverages Simon Lowden (who is also responsible for the Mountain Dew ads running ahead of the game) about why brands that just dip in and out of the Super Bowl or buy ads as a one-off are missing the real attraction of the big game.

PepsiCo is three years into a 10-year deal with the NFL (but its relationship stretches back 31 years) and this year will mark the fourth time Pepsi has sponsored the half time show (you might remember Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers from last year’s game.) Many of its brands are now intertwined with the NFL: Gatorade has been the official sports drink of the league since 1983 and Doritos has been running its “Crash the Super Bowl” since 2006.

Krishnan told us: “If you spend $3.5 million or $4.5 million on a Super Bowl spot, if you don’t have consumer engagement throughout the whole season, I’m not sure that pays off. The Super Bowl is the big day, but [for us] it’s the culmination of a whole year of effort.”

Lowden added: “There are 185 million domestic fans for football. The great thing about the NFL is that every game is like the FA Cup Final. Every game matters.”

So for PepsiCo brands, Super Bowl activity really starts way back in September. That’s when Doritos relaunched its long-running “Crash the Super Bowl” competition in which it asks consumers to send in their entries for their videos to be made into the brand’s big game ad, for example. The competition received about 4,900 entries, and the finalists’ videos — which can be viewed on a dedicated website — have racked up more than 3.2 billion impressions.

Here's one of the entrants bidding for a Super Bowl ad slot (and a $1 million prize):

Meanwhile, Pepsi’s Super Bowl-related activity has achieved 1 billion impressions since the end of November, Lowden says, although that has been helped by some TV teasers.

But even with the season-long rhetoric in mind, PepsiCo has still forked out a considerable amount on the game itself: The half time show doesn’t come cheap, it has purchased several of those coveted $4.5 million 30-second slots, and that’s not to mention the second-screen paid activity it has planned with Facebook and Twitter. Clearly there’s something about the Super Bowl itself that PepsiCo thinks will pay off?

Lowden tells us: “What we know is we have a 70% year on year increase in better in-store programs with [retailers]. Snacks and beverages together. These are on-shelf displays that we would not get without the NFL program. That’s part of how we measure success.”

Basically, on and around the big game, PepsiCo’s massive marketing program drives traffic into stores. Retailers love this and offer up more shelf space and coveted end-of-aisle slots. PepsiCo sells more products. It’s a perfect circle. But it’s something that can only come out of its brand’s already-strong associations with the NFL — something many brand advertisers simply don’t and likely never will have so long as PepsiCo continues its relationship with the league.

Lowden adds: “The NFL would say their best partner, without a doubt, is PepsiCo. We are three years into a 10-year deal. With that comes enormous trust and planning: We started planning Super Bowl 50 in San Francisco a year ago. We plan together and become part of the brand team.”

With that comes access to shared data about what motivates people to watch games and buy related snacks and drinks. And that’s something that only comes with a relationship, not a one-off punt.

PepsiCo is prepping its “biggest activation ever” during the Super Bowl this year. Here’s what it has planned:

Pepsi

Sponsoring the half-time show starring Katy Perry and Lenny Kravitz, plus a lead-in commercial.

Viewers can even "shop" the half time show, buying the items that appear on screen via platforms like Twitter thanks to a partnership with ShopTV.

Paid-for Twitter Amplify and Facebook activity to promote the second-screen experience throughout the show.

Outdoor advertising all over the Phoenix area, where the game is being played — including mysterious crop circles. Lowden told us Pepsi is playing on the theme of the desert and we should think "Close Encounters of the Third Kind."

On January 18 the brand held a concert with a performance form Nico & Vinz as part of a “Hype Your Hometown” competition.

Doritos

Two “Crash the Super Bowl” ads.

Mountain Dew

11 ads during the Super Bowl pre-game show to showcase two new “KICKSTART” flavors.

Tostidos

The official chip and dip sponsor of the NFL is hosting a Super Bowl party experience from January 28 to February 1 in downtown Phoenix.

And that's not to mention all the in-store and on-pack activity across many more of PepsiCo's brands.

Jay Z Is Buying One Of Spotify's Biggest Rivals For $56 Million

Jay Z

Jay Z is close to acquiring the company behind WiMP, one of Spotify's biggest streaming rivals, for $56 million, the Financial Times reports.

WiMP is hugely popular in Scandinavian countries. It is a rival to Spotify and offers a similar music-streaming service. The company behind WiMP also runs Tidal, a Norwegian version of the service.

Project Panther Bidco, a company owned by Jay Z, offered $56 million for the company, Aspiro, which is based in Sweden.

Reuters is reporting that Aspiro's main shareholder has already accepted Jay Z's offer, virtually sealing the deal.

Jay Z isn't the first rapper to get involved with streaming sites. Dr. Dre is a cofounder of Beats Music, the headphones and music-streaming company that Apple acquired for $3 billion in May.

Here's a statement from Jay Z about the acquisition offer:

Panther believes that the recent developments in the entertainment industry, with the migration to music and media streaming, offers great potential for increased entertainment consumption and an opportunity for artists to further promote their music. Panther's strategic ambition revolves around global expansion and up-scaling of Aspiro's platform, technology and services.

Streaming services like WiMP and Spotify dominate the music market in Norway. Piracy has fallen to record lows in the country, and the music industry is thanking legal streaming sites for the steep decline in file sharing.

Rap Mogul 'Suge' Knight Has Been Arrested For Allegedly Running Over 2 Pedestrians In LA

Rap mogul Marion

Notorious rap mogul Marion "Suge" Knight has reportedly been arrested over his involvement in a hit-and-run that left one man dead and another person in the hospital in Los Angeles, ABC7 News reports.

He is reportedly being held on $2 million bail.

The cofounder of Death Row Records ran over two bystanders as he tried to flee a fight on a film set in the city of Compton in southern Los Angeles, Knight's attorney James Blatt told Entertainment Weekly.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Ryan Rouzan told AFP there was a fatal traffic collision at 2:55 p.m. PT (22:55 GMT), leaving one man dead and another person in the hospital.

Rouzan could not immediately confirm reports Knight was involved.

The celebrity news website TMZ reported that witnesses said Knight was involved in a film shoot featuring rappers Ice Cube and Dr. Dre.

Ice Cube posted a picture on his Instagram account earlier Thursday saying that he was filming a commercial in Compton.

A fight broke out between Knight and two men, TMZ said, and Knight was trying to drive away as the incident occurred.

Knight cofounded Death Row Records along with hip-hop music king Dr. Dre in the early 1990s.

The label helped launch stars such as Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur before it collapsed in 1996 when Knight was jailed for parole violations.

Knight was jailed after he violated a 1992 probation order by beating up a gang rival in the desert gambling city of Las Vegas.

He landed up in jail again, this time for 10 months, in 2003 after allegedly getting into a fight outside a Hollywood nightclub.

Knight was shot six times at a music awards party last year.

Here's What 'American Sniper' Chris Kyle's Relationship With His Wife Was Really Like

Clint Eastwood's "American Sniper" is currently breaking box-office records and garnering critical acclaim with six Oscar nominations, but many are questioning the accuracy of the film, based on former Navy Seal Chris Kyle's best-selling memoir of the same title.

While some argue Kyle  who died in 2013after being shot by a former Marine suffering from PTSD  may have embellished battle scenes, his wife assures their relationship was just as special and loving in real life as it appeared on-screen.

Bradley Cooper and Sienna Miller played Chris and Taya Kyle in "American Sniper":

taya kyleTaya Kyle told People magazine earlier this month: "I was madly in love with him and still am."

Taya, now 40, adds: "I miss him so much. I loved being in his arms. I loved holding his hand. But what I miss most about Chris is the feeling when he was in the room. He just changed the feeling whenever he walked in. I missed him even when he was just gone from the room."

Taya Kyle american sniper premiereBut as it's shown in the film, the couple's relationship went through a few rough patches as Chris spent long stretches away from his wife and two young children while serving four tours in Iraq.

In 2009, after an ultimatum from Taya, Chris quit the military to make his wife and children his priority.

"My relationship with him, from the beginning, was just very real. Very real, deep, passionate love. We went through some really hard times, but we found our way back to each other every time," a choked up Taya told Fox News in December.  "I'll never have anything like that again, and I'm okay with that because it was special and it deserves to be set in a different category."

Taya also clarified the truth behind a few key scenes between herself and Kyle in the film (WARNING: SPOILERS):

1. In the movie, Taya and Kyle meet in a bar. The two take shots and Taya gets so drunk that she ends up getting sick. Kyle holds her hair back as she vomits.

Taya tells Fox News the story is unfortunately pretty close to the truth: "Yes, although I will say it wasn't shots, I think I was drinking scotch on the rocks. And then yes I did vomit, and then yes he did hold my hair back."

2. In the movie, the Kyles' wedding was interrupted by news that the U.S. would go to war following 9/11.

In reality, the couple decided to get married because Chris was about to be deployed and had only a few days of leave amid military training.

When a firefight breaks out, Chris drops his phone to shoot and Taya is left on the line to hear the entire ordeal, not knowing if her husband is dead or alive.

According to Slate, "Kyle once dropped his phone during a firefight and she was forced to hear the whole thing — but not when she was revealing the sex of her baby, as in the film."

According to his memoir, Chris told Taya he wouldn’t re-enlist because their marriage was nearing divorce.

According to Slate: "This is not in Kyle's memoir, for obvious reasons, but screenwriter Jason Hall writes in an addendum to the new edition of the book that Taya told him she had this conversation with Kyle a month before his death."

american sniper bradley cooper sienna millerWhen Chris was killed, he had been in the process of adapting his best selling memoir into the film that it became. At the time, Bradley Cooper was attached to produce and star as Chris, who wished to have Eastwood direct the movie.

Taya Kyle Bradley CooperWhen Eastwood eventually signed on after Chris' death, Taya tells People magazine the 84-year-old director "was a little choked up. He said, 'I just want you to know that your story has my heart.'"

"I feel like they all have this huge heart for Chris," Taya added. "I really feel like they truly love him and understand him."

When Taya first met actress Sienna Miller  who would be playing her in the film  she says after just a few sentences, "I was like, 'This is good.' We just connected. It's been a tremendous blessing."

"They spent a lot of time absorbing the details and getting them right in the movie," Taya told  Fox News. "Chris would be far too humble to say any of his good qualities, he was very self deprecating in his humor, and for me to have the ability to tell them what I loved was a beautiful thing."

Through tears, Taya told Fox that she still feels her husband's presence every day:

I do in a lot of ways feel like I still have that relationship, and it still grows because of what I learn and what I experience, and how I can more deeply appreciate what he was going through and I wish that had know more at the time, as people often do. But I also know that he knows the best I could and he was doing the best he could.

We started our lives and we went through war, child birth, happiness, joking through the hard times, and he really changed me into somebody much, much better, and I'm so grateful to him. I carry him with me, I feel him with me all the time and that's a pretty special thing."

Taya, meanwhile, has founded the Chris Kyle Frog Foundation to help enrich the relationships of military and first responders' families.

Even though Chris was killed almost two years, Taya told People, "He had so much energy in life. There are some people who probably go to heaven and chill and just check in once in a while, but Chris is probably like, 'I'm watching my people!'"

"I will miss him every single day of my life."

maisie williams game of thrones

Maisie Williams is known for playing Arya Stark on HBO's "Game of Thrones."

During a Reddit AMA on Fri., Jan. 30, the 17-year-old actress provided fans with ample information — even if she couldn't give away any spoilers for season 5. (But you can watch the leaked trailer here!).

Here are seven great things we learned about Maisie:

1. She didn't realize "Game of Thrones" was big until Season 3.
Maisie explains: "At the season 3 premiere, we went to the Chinese Theater in Los Angeles, and stepping out of the car, with hundreds of people screaming my name, is when I realized that this show completely changed my life. It was very, very daunting - I found it quite scary - but it happened gradually, so I had time to get used to it."

2. Rory McCann (The Hound) is similar to his character... sort of.
arya hound game of thrones season 4Fans loved the Hound and Arya's wandering duo in Season 4. Williams joked, "Rory is quite similar to The Hound before breakfast, in that, if he hasn't eaten, he's kind of grumpy! haha! But I love 'im regardless."

The two do a have a real-life rapport, too. "We are very close friends. I saw him when I was at the SAG awards at the week-end, and it was really nice to see him again, and I hope that's not the last I see of him," says Maisie.

3. She might be playing Ellie in the film adaptation of the popular apocalyptic videogame "The Last Of Us."
ellie last of usShe wrote, "THE LAST OF US movie is in very early days. I have spoken to powerful people who are getting THE LAST OF US on its feet. And I'm hopeful that I can play Ellie in the future, but we'll all have to wait and see."

4. If she could play anyone on Game of Thrones, it would be Cersei.
cersei game of thrones"I would love to play... Cersei," she wrote. "because she's badass."

5. Here's who she thinks should sit on the Iron Throne.
bronn game of thrones"Ehm - I think... Bronn (Tyrion's left hand man) would do a really good job?" Why? "Cuz he's funny!"

6. She would like to keep acting after "Game of Thrones" ends.
Game of Thrones, Comic Con Panel"After 'Game of Thrones,' I'd love to continue in television, and I'd love to move on to movies as well." She wrote. "I don't really know what I want to do? But I think that's quite cool, because I'm only 17 and I don't have to decide yet. But definitely staying in performing."

7. She hasn't read the books.
"...And I didn't read them before I got the role," she wrote. "I do want to read them but I'm going to wait until the season is finished. But I can't wait to see what really happens to Arya! Yes!"

8. This viral scene happened because she was watching funny videos on her phone.

When asked if there was every a time that she couldn't stop laughing on set, she replied, "The one time was in series 3, episode 8 [note: this was actually in season 4], when I was supposed to laugh anyway - when Arya cracked up laughing at the news of her dead aunt - and I was watching funny videos on my phone, so I giggled endlessly, and they liked it, and so did the audience."

9.SEASON 5 TEASER ALERT! Arya will get emotional in season 5.
She said, "There's actually a scene in the coming season... which was my most difficult scene to film. And I think fans are going to be really excited about it. More emotional than we've seen Arya in previous seasons."

Fans will definitely appreciate that, since we have watched Arya develop from an innocent girl to a hardened fighter and killer. What's in store for her next?

Season 5 of "Game of Thrones" premieres on Sun., Apr. 12 at 9 p.m.

Snapchat is launching its first web series, and it stars Steven Spielberg's daughter

Snapchat is releasing a new web series on its new Snap Channel, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The series, called "Literally Can't Even," will premiere Saturday. Snap Channel is part of Snapchat's new feature Discover, which the company unveiled earlier this week.

Discover allows Snapchat users to view pieces of news in the form of Snapchat Stories. After 24 hours, the stories self-destruct and new content replaces them. Snapchat's partners for Discovery include CNN, Vice, Comedy Central, National Geographic, and ESPN.

Written by Sasha Spielberg — the daughter of Steven Spielberg — and Emily Goldwyn, the daughter of film producer John Goldwyn, "Literally Can't Even" "stars the friends and writing partners as comedic versions of themselves — Spielberg recently single after a long relationship and Goldwyn embarking on a six-month cleanse — and follows them on a series of misadventures in Los Angeles," according to the Hollywood Reporter.

New episodes will be added every Saturday, but each episode will self-destruct after 24 hours, much like Snapchat Stories or the content available in the Discover feature. Episodes are five minutes or less and "often employ a split screen to pack each shot with details from the scene," according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Rylee Ebsen is director of the series and also serves as Snapchat's media production director. Ebsen told the Hollywood Reporter: "Snapchatters consume and create and we've always embraced that. When it came to Discover, we wanted to have a seat at the table. It felt weird to not have our own voice as well."

Former Wall Street intern Paige A. Jennings who quit her job this month to pursue a career as a porn star named "Veronica Vain" is shooting her first film this weekend.

ArrangementFinders.com — a dating website that connects attractive young women with rich men — announced that it has signed Jennings (Veronica Vain) to a six-figure business deal that includes her first film role.

Jennings, who declined to specify the exact figure she'll be paid, will be appearing in "Screwing Wall Street: The ArrangementFinders IPO."

She's scheduled to shoot her first scene on Sunday in Los Angeles with 39-year-old French porn star Manuel Ferrera. She told us that she's not nervous.

The 23-year-old Fordham University graduate worked as a part-time intern in Lazard Asset Management's alternative-investments marketing group in New York. Before she quit, she had posted nude selfies from inside the bathroom of Lazard's offices on her Twitter account. She told us that she still has no idea how the firm found out about the photos.

She told Business Insider that she's taking what she learned working in marketing on Wall Street and applying it to the adult film industry.

She called her new adult-film venture "revolutionary and disruptive." The movie will feature product placement for ArrangementFinders.com. Jennings believes this is how the adult film industry can start increasing its revenues.

"Nearly everyone watches porn. They might not admit it. Advertisers are not utilizing that channel to reach this massive audience."

She thinks there's a huge market for "sin products" such as non-traditional dating sites, lingerie, condoms and alcohol, etc. that mainstream marketing has rejected.

"So many people watch [porn]. If the industry sees those advertising dollars, you'll see growth."

Manuel Ferrara Since leaving Lazard for porn, Jennings said that her friends, mom and boyfriend have been supportive.

"My boyfriend is very supportive."

She didn't name her boyfriend, but said he's a "an Ivy League educated guy who works in New York" and is "super hot."

"He's not the type of guy you would think would date a porn star. He's a normal guy with an office job."

She also expects some of her former colleagues on Wall Street will watch her new film.

"Every time you'd walk down the aisle, it was eyes on me. You know how it is when you're a woman in business and you're in a tight pencil skirt," she said. "You could definitely feel men's eyes. You know when men are watching you. I definitely felt that when I worked on the floor."

Well, porn sites are blocked at banks. They'll have to watch from the privacy of their own homes.

The 'Shark Tank' investors agree that this is the worst pitch they've seen on the show

darrin johnson ionic ear

Remember when Bluetooth headsets were a convenient, socially acceptable way to answer your cellphone without having to take it out of your pocket?

Now, many cheap pairs of headphones come with built-in microphones that don't make you look like an idiot, but imagine if you could answer your calls without needing to fuss with any accessory. That's what drove Darrin Johnson to enter the "Shark Tank" in the pilot episode of the reality pitch show.

He presented his Ionic Ear, a Bluetooth device that could be surgically implanted in the user's ear canal. It required a cotton swab-sized charger to be inserted every night.

In the past six seasons of "Shark Tank," no product has been so out of touch with what consumers needed or desired, and no presentation has been as awkward as Johnson's.

"That was the worst pitch," investor Barbara Corcoran tells Business Insider. Corcoran brought it up in a special retrospective segment on the series' 100th episode, and all of the investors agreed that it would be hard to top the Ionic Ear. (Johnson, a telecommunications engineer, did not respond to a request for comment.)

Here's a breakdown of the pitch.

Darrin Johnson wants $1 million for a 15% stake in his proposed company, Ionic Ear. Funding would go toward developing the product.

As Johnson explains his implantable technology, Daymond John looks dumbfounded. The device is "implanted" into some other device, right?

No, the device is surgically implanted into the neck, below the ear.

A 'Shark Tank' fan analyzed every episode to determine who gets the investors' money

Jishai Evers, a designer based in Amsterdam and Tel Aviv, spent three days going through six seasons of ABC's hit show "Shark Tank." He analyzed the results of 432 pitches to find out how the Sharks spent their money.

"I think the main takeaway is the fact that the bigger the team is, the higher your chances are to get an investment," Evers tells Business Insider.

Moreover, he was surprised to find that the Sharks have been equal opportunity investors. "White men are actually less likely to successfully pitch the Sharks, and minorities and women perform better than average."

Evers was also excited to find that women performed better than men as both single entrepreneurs and in teams. "I think Silicon Valley investors can learn a thing or two from the Sharks!" he says.

Evers created the below infographic from his data, which he originally published on his data visuals site dadaviz.

Dan Loeb played a crucial role in getting 'American Sniper' made, but missed his chance to make a profit

Daniel Dan Loeb

Not that billionaire Dan Loeb needs the money, but the hedge fund titan could be a bit richer today had he invested in the Clint Eastwood-directed "American Sniper" when given the chance.

Loeb was friendly with former Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, the subject of the Oscar nominated movie based on Kyle's best-selling memoir of the same title. Kyle was shot and killed in 2013 by a Marine veteran suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD.

Kyle Bass

According to BloombergLoeb was introduced to Chris Kyle years ago by J. Kyle Bass, a hedge fund manager and longtime friend of Loeb's who had allowed Kyle to live at his Texas ranch, where the famed sniper taught marksmanship.

Loeb and Bass helped Kyle in his transition to civilian life, according to Scott McEwen, a co-author of Kyle’s book with Jim DeFelice.

During a Barefoot Economic Summit, an investor conference Bass hosts at his Texas home, Kyle taught Loeb to shoot.

After the two became friendly, "Loeb encouraged Kyle to pursue a movie version of his 2012 book, 'American Sniper,'" Bloomberg reports. "Loeb also introduced Kyle to Peter Morgan, a prep-school friend of the hedge-fund manager who went on to produce the film. Loeb introduced the veteran to Hollywood agents, who helped him negotiate movie rights, as well."

But Loeb's help only went so far. The founder of Triple Point Capital declined an early offer to put $250,000 into "American Sniper," a source revealed to Bloomberg.

Loeb did, however, invest $25,000 in Kyle's Craft International LLC, a security-training business, but the company filed for bankruptcy-court protection last year, so he isn't seeing much a return.

Loeb, who declined comment to PageSix on his own marksmanship skills, responded in a statement to Bloomberg, saying: "Even though we lost our cash investment in Craft, we got paid back multiple times over by having the privilege to know Chris and helping out an American hero."

"American Sniper" is currently breaking box-office records by earning more than $264 million worldwide since its Dec. 25 release. The film was made for an estimated $58.8 million, meaning it will likely be hugely profitable for investors.
