cruise saw jigsaw

Torture-porn aficionados and cruise-lovers of the world unite: Carnival Cruises has joined forces Twisted Pictures to create the SAW at Sea Cruise, because apparently there's a market for that.

If you aren't the kind of person who would enjoy being trapped on a ship with the kind of people who would be able to participate in the "SAW Tattoo Contest," never fear.

After some research, Business Insider found that there are enough themed cruises for everybody.

SAW at Sea Cruise

The SAW franchise really doesn't know when to stop.

For five glorious nights in August, the Carnival Glory will travel from New York to "the most beautiful points in Canada," all the while mingling with some of the SAW stars and participating SAW tattoo contests. Because who doesn't have tattoos of torture porn?

Prices range from $695 to $1,695.

Barge To Hell

For those who don't survive the SAW cruise, take a ride on the Barge to Hell.

The heavy metal-themed trip, full of 2,000 headbangers and Icelandic hard core bands, sets sail this December and is a 4-night round trip from Miami to the Bahamas and back.

According tithe website it's the "world's most extreme metal cruise," and we believe it.

Richard Simmons' Cruise to Lose

But wait, not all of the themed cruises are dark.

In the past, gold lamé wearing fitness guru Richard Simmons has been known to hold weight-loss themed cruises.

Television's Highest Paid Celebrity Judges

Britney Spears will own the highest pay check of any reality celebrity judge on television. The singer agreed to a $15 million dollar contract to perform and the "X-Factor."

However, Spears isn't the only one the networks offer big bucks. Howard Stern will earn nearly $15 million while on "America's Got Talent" this summer and "The Voice" gang sing all the way to the bank on million dollar pay rolls.

Jennifer Lopez comes close with her "American Idol" paycheck. Comrade Steven Tyler reportedly earns millions as well, however, not nearly enough as Lopez.

RANKING: Here Is The Most Popular 'James Bond' Actor

sean-connery-james-bond

The James Bond franchise turns 50 this year. To celebrate, the Castro Theatre in San Francisco, California is holding a Bond marathon featuring eight of 007's best films this weekend.

Ahead of the upcoming film, "Skyfall," this November, PeekYou has figured out the Web's favorite James Bond.

The site, which launched in 2006, aggregates scores—called PeekScores—defining everyone's popularity on the Web from Obama to, well, yourself.

According to Michael Hussey, CEO of PeekYou, the score does not reflect influence, like Klout. Rather the algorithm used calculates each Bond's digital footprint across the Web delivering a score from 1 to 10.

Hussey says the site assesses 20 factors across the Web including popularity on social media sites, such as LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook, and numbers of news articles and blog posts.

While few people attain a perfect score of ten, all the Bond men fair above eight. See if your favorite Bond actor is the most popular on the Web.

6. GEORGE LAZENBY (PeekScore: 8.13)

5. TIMOTHY DALTON (PeekScore: 8.39)

4. ROGER MOORE (PeekScore: 8.96)

Here's How Google's Founders Can Mine Asteroids And Become Trillionaires...

$

columbus-landing

Last week, it was reported that Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin and others are investing in a new company called "Planetary Resources" that wants to mine asteroids.

The company's founder, Peter Diamandis, has apparently been dreaming of mining asteroids since he was a kid. Like others, he thinks the resources in space will create the world's first trillionaire.

But, engineering challenges aside, how exactly can you mine asteroids?

Specifically, what gives you the right to mine asteroids?

Doesn't somebody own asteroids? Wouldn't you have to acquire the mining rights from someone?

According to a panel I attended last winter at the DLD conference in Munich, the answer is no.

Legal scholars apparently disagree about how laws pertaining to ownership apply to space, but the prevailing view is apparently this:

If you go plant a flag on an asteroid before anyone else does, it's yours.

So asteroid mining, at least in the early years, may be all about getting there first and planting flags.

Of course, as soon as Planetary Resources holds its big press conference this week, countries and lawyers the world around will probably begin gearing up for a big legal fight over who owns space.

And that will be amusing to watch.

space travel artBecause the concept that any tiny life-form or group of life forms on one tiny planet in one tiny corner of the universe can "own" the universe is so ridiculous and arrogant that it's basically farce.

But don't forget that there's precedent for the flag-planting theory.

When Europeans started sailing ships around the globe ~500 years ago and "discovering" land, no one "owned" any lands they encountered (least of all, in their view, the people who lived there)... until they planted their flags. And then, in their view, they owned the land--at least until someone else bought it from them or conquered them and took it.

And the same will probably be true of the space race.

So get your flags and spaceships ready...

Don't recognize this woman? That's odd. If you've watched any primetime TV in the last year you've probably seen her. She appears every night in the commercial of a major beer brand.

Looks can be deceptive, of course. In advertising, perception is reality, as they say. To get an idea of just how effective makeup, hair and wardrobe design can be in TV spots, take this quiz and see if you can match the model to the commercial.

(Hat tip to Who Is That Hot Ad Girl.)

Q. Which tech brand does this model advertise?

A. Amazon's Kindle. It's Anna Zeilinski, actress, model and pro-cheerleader.

Q. Which phone company does this model advertise?

MAD MEN RECAP: This Is Sterling Cooper On Drugs

$
0
0

jane roger mad men

In this week's episode of "Mad Men," characters discussed the virtues of truth versus goodness, falsity, orange sherbet, submission, the Holocaust, and OH MY GOD YOU GUYS, THE ROOM IS A KALEIDOSCOPE OF COLORS AND CLASSICAL MUSIC AND I THINK THAT MY LEFT HAND JUST GREW A SIXTH, PURPLE FINGER.

That's right scotch lovers, episode six, titled "Far Away Places," truly embraced the sixties and was all about Roger in the sky with diamonds. Lucy in the sky with Mad Men? Whatever. Roger dropped acid, and the results were glorious.

Matt Weiner's experimentation with flashbacks and disjointed time sequences drew viewers into a confusing world in which the main characters struggled with gaining and losing control of their relationships and surroundings. Immediate gut reactions include:

  • Everything is better when Roger Sterling speaks. Particularly while on drugs.
  • No, Don. Megan does not like orange sherbet. Betty, on the other hand, would have been all over it. (Bring back January Jones!)
  • Peggy is not a little girl, and she will prove it by channeling her inner eighth grader and give a guy a hand job in a movie theater.
  • Ginsberg was born in a concentration camp. Things just got really real.

But that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Roger takes LSD at a dinner party and listens to the Beach Boys.

Roger is forced to attend a dinner party with Jane, who is dressed as a Cleopatra/Princess Leia alien hybrid, which is being thrown by a pseudo-intellectual psychiatrist to the stars (and as it later turns out, Jane).

Breaking from painful talk of truth being "good because it's always real," the pretension-fest gets interesting when the oldies decide to "turn on" and drop acid.

"I told you we were supposed to take LSD with them, you were supposed to clear your schedule," Jane whines to Roger. "You really are never listening to me."

She then gives the kiss-of-death endorsement that "it will be good for us." and Roger jumps down the rabbit hole.

"And you say I never take you anywhere."

"Well, Dr. Leary, I find your product boring."

Incredible things happen when Roger drops acid:

  • Bottles of Stoli sing Russian music when opened
  • Harmonica noises come out of cigarettes when puffed
  • People start crawling on the floor
  • Bert Cooper's head begins to appear on dollar bills
  • The Silver Fox gets a two-toned (young versus old) hairdo
  • Already golden lines shine even brighter

At the end of the day, the couple goes home, puts on pink bathtowel turbans, and finds out that one drop of acid is cheaper than any marriage counselor. It's over and has been for a long time—Roger is even shocked that Jane never cheated on him.

Now that Roger's unencumbered, can he make a family with Joan and Kevin?

"I have an announcement to make, it's going to be a beautiful day."

Peggy smokes dope and gets frisky in the movie theater.

Peggy is having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. After Abe calls her out for objectifying him as her sex object, he tells her to "have a shitty day." Peggy then gives such a bad pitch to Heinz that she gets thrown off the account.

The cure? Skip out on work, go to a movie, eat some popcorn, smoke some pot, and then give a stranger a hand job in the crowded theater. Pulling a "Pretty Woman," Peggy refuses to kiss.

When Peggy and Dawn had their sleepover two episodes ago, Peggy noted that in order to be successful in her field, she had to channel masculinity and wasn't sure that she could do it. Peggy was forceful in the pitch meeting, and while it may have worked for Don, both the Heinz executive and Bert saw her as a "little girl" who got out of control.

The picture to the right shows Peggy washing her "sins" off her hands, before getting back to work.

Two Films Finally Overpower 'Hunger Games'—Here's Your Box-Office Roundup

think-like-a-man

Not one, but two films overtook "The Hunger Games" to claim the number one and two spots at theaters this weekend.

"Think Like A Man," based on the book by Steve Harvey, brought in more than $30 million this weekend. As of Friday, the film was projected to make upwards of $20 million.

And women love Zac Efron. Fact.

Nicolas Sparks' romance "The Lucky One," performed well above expectations this weekend.

Disney's documentary "Chimpanzee" gains a cool $10 million—nearly as much as "John Carter" brought in during week two ($13.5 million).

"Marley," the documentary on Bob Marley that opened in theaters and on Facebook simultaneously, earned $260,000.

During week two, Guy Pearce's thriller "Lockout" has earned only $11 million total, slightly more than half its $20 million budget. The film, along with  "Wrath of the Titans" and "The Lorax" finally fall out of the top 10.

10. "Mirror Mirror" rounds up the top ten this week with $4.1 million this weekend. The film is faring much better overseas, earning a total of $64 million compared to $55 domestically.

9. Six weeks at theaters and "21 Jump Street" still manages to rake in $4.6 million at the box office. This brings the film's domestic gross to $127 million. Worldwide, the film has earned $166 million.

8. "Titanic 3D" earns another $5 million this weekend bringing the film's total gross to $52.8 million. Guess it was worth the $18 million budget this time around.

A year ago, Caine Monroy was just a pint-sized arcade fanatic whiling away his summer vacation at his dad's auto parts shop.

Then he decided to build his own version of the games he loved to play – completely out of cardboard.

A chance encounter drew national media attention and turned the 9-year-old kid from East L.A. into a household name.

It all started here, at his dad's L.A.-area used auto parts shop.

"He loves to see how things are built," says his dad, George. "So it was only natural for him to build his own arcade."

Caine built his first game – mini-basketball – using shipping boxes from the shop and a plastic goal he picked up at a pizzeria.

10 Exciting Details From Wall Street's Next Huge Film: The Wolf Of Wall Street

$

martin scorsese and leonardo dicaprio

Do you know how excited we are?  We're really, really excited!

That's because a movie adaptation of Jordan Belfort's best-selling memoir "The Wolf of Wall Street" is slated to start filming in New York this August.

It's the story of a penny stockbroker who ran a pump and dump firm called Stratton-Oakmont on Long Island. Think drugs, parties, and globe trotting during the good times. (They even did legitimate deals, like take Steve Madden public.)

But then there were the bad times. Stratton-Oakmont had a number of completely illegal dealings involving corruption at high levels of the corporate banking world, and even the mob. The bad times, as you can see, were really bad.

When all was said and done, Belfort had to spend 20 months in jail and his family and fortune were lost.

This true story took place in the 1990s in a boiler room type atmosphere of hungry young traders.

Long Island-based brokerage house Stratton-Oakmont had a short run. By 1998, founder Jordan Belfort was indicted for securities fraud and money laundering.

During the run, though, Belfort (a kid who used to hustle ice on Long Island beaches) hired young, hungry, hardworking employees, some of whom hadn't even graduated from high school. They were known as "Strattonites."

The "Strattonites" stuck to Belfort's cold call scripts, drove up the prices of stocks, and partied. Hard.

Source: CNBC

Source: 'Wolf of Wall Street'

Some of that partying included midget tossing.

That's right midget tossing. Not to mention the hookers, globe trotting, and eating at expensive New York City restaurants (that got destroyed)...

Source: 'Wolf of Wall Street'

And drugs, of course, Belfort ('The Wolf') and his crew did a lot of them.

In his autobiography, Belfort details doing a lot of hardcore drugs when he was at the top of his Wall Street game in the 90s.

Here's what he told CNBC's Jane Wells:

Belfort says at the height of his drug problem, he was taking 22 different medications: 20 quaaludes a day, balanced out by cocaine, the morphine, xanax, valium, etc. You name it, he abused it. I said to him, "Even if half of this is true (skeptical as always) how are you alive?" He says he was just really good about balancing it all out.

The Chicago native has since created over 350 products and holds 110 U.S. and international patents.

Greiner is now a panelist alongside Mark Cuban on ABC's "Shark Tank," as well as host of her own QVC show "Clever & Unique Creations by Lori Greiner," which has been on the air for 11 years.

Greiner gave Business Insider a behind-the-scenes look at her 22-hour work day on-air at QVC.

My work day begins at 1am.

Signing in at the Studio Operations Desk.  It’s 1 a.m. and it’s going to be a marathon day! I have my Clever & Unique Creations Hour shows today on QVC. First one starts at 6 a.m.

It takes me and my team about three or four hours to set up before an hour-long show. I’m ready!

First stop, the set where I sell beauty products.

Here I am in the gorgeous beauty set talking with the floor manager about what our needs may be for the different items we are airing in the show.

He helps me review what sets I will need to show each different product in the show. Isn’t this set beautiful?

One of my most popular products I sell is the jewelry organizer.

Doing a little last minute makeup before the show. So great that the product I am selling is my Gold & Silver Safekeeper Mirrored Jewelry Cabinet.

As you can see it is a full length mirror with jewelry inside, and since it has a mirror I can check my hair, makeup and outfit right before the cameras go on right on set!

"The Hunger Games" finally lost its winning streak atop the box office this weekend. After spending four weeks at number one, the film lands 30th on the all-time chart for most consecutive weekends at the top spot.

One film blows all the others out of the water with a total of 15 consecutive weekends as the box office number one. Only one film has ever had 16 weeks at number one ... and it's not a James Cameron or Ridley Scott flick.

Can You Spot These Disastrous Photoshop FAILS?

It seems like every other week a new Photoshop ad disaster hits the blogosphere.

Sometimes the controversy lies in big-picture issues, like, is it ethical to remove all signs of life from an aging actress' face or digitally delete a model's rib cage?

Other times the problem is far more subtle. Like, some art director chopping off a model's hand or adding a second butt where her thighs should be.

There are epic Photoshop fails out there. Can you spot the disasters?

Whatever is wrong with this picture?

Oh, the second derriere.

13 Celebrities Who Have Played Themselves On-Screen

$
0
0

Ryan-Seacrest-Megan-Fox-Play-Themselves

It's not strange to have actors guest star as themselves in bit roles on television or in films.

Shows like "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "Extras" have given celebrities like Kate Winslet and Daniel Radcliffe opportunities to mock their more serious public personas.

And films do it too, with Chuck Norris playing a blink-and-you'll-miss-it part in "Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story" or Topher Grace really hamming it up in "Oceans' 11" and "Oceans' 12."

And former "Dawson Creek" star James Van Beek is currently trying to make it a weekly joke on the new series "Don't Trust The B– In Apartment 23."

The actor plays the titular B–'s friend who really milks his celebrity for all its worth. He even tries (successfully) to get girls by playing "I Don't Want To Wait" and wearing his iconic flannel shirts.

So far, the joke is working: the show has retained it's decent numbers from the pilot.

Now, here are 12 other celebrities who have made fun of themselves ... by playing themselves.

Paul Giamatti has a trouble with his soul.

Oscar nominee Paul Giamatti can't seem to separate the characters he plays with himself.

In the film "Cold Souls," the actor reads about "soul storage" and decides to lock away 95 percent of his soul so that he can properly play the main role in "Uncle Vanya".

And it only gets weirder from there.

Bruce Willis has a fit in "What Just Happened?" and plays a doting friend in "Oceans' 12."

Bruce Willis seems to be excellent at playing completely strange or jerk-y versions of himself.

In the comedy "What Just Happened?" Willis throws a temper tantrum about not being recognizable to the younger generation.

In "Oceans' 12" Willis shows up when Tess (Julia Roberts) decides to pose as a pregnant Julia Roberts to try and steal something for the Ocean gang. It's very surreal.

Check out Willis' rant in "What Just Happened?"

Neil Patrick Harris plays completely against type in the "Harold & Kumar" series.

Neil Patrick Harris is nothing like this in real life. We hope.

In "Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle," Harold (John Cho) and Kumar (Kal Penn) pick up a hitchhiker that happens to be "Doogie Howser MD" star Harris. They tell the actor about their plan to get White Castle burgers but Harris has something more extreme in mind.

Harris shows up in the next two "Harold and Kumar" movies again and this time, he makes jokes about being gay in real life.

Check out NPH in all his coked up, NSFW glory from the first "Harold and Kumar" film here.
