Jennifer Lawrence, Ariana Grande, and Kate Upton were among a handful of celebrities whose nude photos were leaked late Sunday afternoon following  what appears to be a large-scale hack.

The photos first appeared on a 4Chan thread (very NSFW). So far, only Lawrence's publicist Bryna Rifkin has confirmed, in an official statement to Buzzfeed, that the photos were of her client:

This is a flagrant violation of privacy. The authorities have been contacted and will prosecute anyone who posts the stolen photos of Jennifer Lawrence.

The leaked photos were apparently obtained via a massive hack of Apple's iCloud. They were then posted on 4chan by users offering more explicit material in exchange for bitcoin payments.

"The hacker on 4chan is also claiming to have explicit videos of Lawrence, and claims to have over 60 nude selfies of the Oscar-winning actress," Buzzfeed reported Sunday.

A master list of all of the celebrities whose phones were apparently obtained is circulating the internet.

It includes Cara Delevingne, Kim Kardashian, and Mary-Kate Olsen.

The Hacker Who Allegedly Leaked Nude Photos Of Kate Upton And Other Celebrities Says The Stunt Took 'Several Months' To Pull Off

A hacker who says they are responsible for uncovering nude photos of more than 100 celebrities including Jennifer Lawrence and Kate Upton says the mobile hit job was plotted by multiple people and took months to pull off.

Daily Mail's James Nye found the alleged hacker's comment on an anonIB thread early Monday. In the comment, the hacker thanked the community for its support. This person also said they were on the run, and that they'd be moving to a new location where they'd continue to post about the hacked photos and videos. The FBI has launched an investigation into the hacking and Apple has patched up a security flaw in iCloud that could have enabled the hacker(s) to access the celebrities' private photos. Apple has not officially commented on how the security breach happened but says it is "actively investigating" the situation and that it takes its users' privacy "very seriously."

"Guys, just to let you know I didn't do this by myself," the alleged lead hacker wrote. "There are several other people who were in on it and I needed to count on to make this happened. This is  the result of several months of long and hard work by all involved. We appreciate your donations and applaud your excitement. I will soon be moving to another location from which I will continue to post."

I Went To Burning Man And It Was Even Crazier Than I Expected

Burning Man CostumesLast year, I went to Burning Man for the first time.

Despite having attended many different festivalspreviously, Burning Man was unlike anything I have ever seen.

Burning Man, as the website proclaims, is "an annual art event and temporary community based on radical self expression and self-reliance in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada."

Last year, over 61,000 people attended, many of them in the tech industry.

While most people go for the full seven days, I only did four, so my experience may have been different from others. But the beauty of Burning Man is that everyone can have whatever kind of experience they want.

Check out my trip last year here >

For me, I loved biking around during the hot desert days looking at all of the beautiful art installations constructed in the middle of nowhere and taking advantage of strangers' generosity by way of wine tastings, zip lines and fried chicken.

For others, the festival comes alive at night. As the sun goes down, the lights of Black Rock City come up and the pulse of the music keeps people awake until well into the following day.

Since most people who haven't been to Burning Man seem to be confused by what it actually is, here are some photos that sum up my trip last year.

It all started with this: a cheap, leopard suitcase I purchased on the streets of NYC. Everything you bring to Burning Man you risk getting seriously dirty or losing. I felt okay sacrificing this.

I packed it full with costumes, sunscreen, sunglasses, flashlights, food, and other items on the official checklist. Everything is in plastic bags to keep it clean from the impending desert dust.

Upon arrival in Reno, the closest airport, I hit a Walmart to grab last-minute necessities such as jugs of water. Walmart was clearly prepared for all of the "Burners" driving from Reno.

Piers Morgan

After over two years as host of "Piers Morgan Live" on CNN, Piers Morgan has officially left the building.

“I was offered a new 2-year deal by CNN boss Jeff Zucker to host 40 big interview ‘specials,'” Morgan revealed to his 4.3 million Twitter followers on Tuesday. “But after considerable thought, I decided not to accept it – and to try pastures new.”

Jeff Zucker

Morgan began anchoring the network’s 9 p.m. slot in January of 2011, replacing “Larry King Live."

In February, rumors began swirling that Morgan's time at the news network was coming to a close after the show's plummeting ratings and Chelsea Handler called him a "terrible interviewer."

CNN anchors were subsequently fighting "Hunger Games"-style for his time slot.

Today, the 49-year-old announced what has been months in the making:

Morgan was formerly editor of Britain’s “News of the World” and “Daily Mirror” and also a judge on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.”

He has not yet announced his next move.

The 10 Highest-Grossing Summer Movies Of 2014

guardians of the galaxy

"Guardians of the Galaxy" is now officially the highest-grossing movie at the domestic box office for the year, and until the next "Hunger Games" sequel is out in November, it will most likely stay in that position.

The quirky action comedy, the latest in a string of hits from Marvel Studios and Disney, has now made more than $550 million worldwide after topping the box office for several weekends in a row. It still has yet to open in China.

While "Guardians" was certainly huge, it wasn't the biggest film of the summer. Now that the season is unofficially over, here are the biggest movies of the season. We've broken each film down by both its international and domestic revenues. Unsurprisingly, all but two films on the list have made more money overseas.

A few take aways:

  • Comedies were bigger at home than overseas.
  • The overall summer box office was down 15% due to a lack of notable big hits.
  • Fox dominated the summer with three very different sequels: superhero film "X-Men: Days of Future Past," "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes," and comedy "22 Jump Street."
  • Paramount was the only studio to have a movie hit $1 billion this year.
  • Though "Guardians" was huge at home, "22 Jump Street" had the best domestic revenue share stateside.
  • Universal Pictures doesn't break the top ten. It's highest-grossing movie of the year so far has been sci-fi flick "Lucy" starring Scarlett Johansson as a superhero ($270.2 million worldwide).

New 'Walking Dead' Poster Hints At A Very Grim Season 5 Story Line

the walking dead season 5 art

Warning: There are spoilers ahead if you do not read "The Walking Dead" comic.

AMC released the first poster for "The Walking Dead" season 5 Tuesday and it looks like we finally have confirmation on where the new season will be heading.

First, let's take a look at the poster.

It shows Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) out of the railroad car he was left in at the end of season 4 (we knew that couldn't keep him locked up for long) and ready to go on the attack.

the walking dead season 5

If you don't read the comics, you probably don't want to read anymore.

What's telling here are the words, "Hunt or be Hunted," offering up a HUGE hint at what's in store in the new season.

One of the most popular story lines from the comics which occurs pretty early on is called, "Fear the Hunters."the walking dead fear the hunters

The five-part comic follows a group of survivors, aptly named "the hunters," who have turned to cannibalism. (With resources running low in the aftermath of the apocalypse you have to imagine someone has resorted to hunting the undead.)

Ever since the introduction of Terminus, a supposed safe haven for survivors, popped up in season 4 of the series, fans have been quick to speculate that this place is merely a trap for Rick and his crew and that the Terminus clan are actually a version of the comic's hunters.

terminus the walking dead season 4

This wouldn't be a surprise since cannibalism has touched upon in every realm of "The Walking Dead" except for the TV series. A version of the hunter family also appears in season one of "The Walking Dead" video game by Telltale Games.

"The Walking Dead" creator Robert Kirkman recently told Entertainment Weekly that season 5 will follow a story line from the comics very closely.

"There's a very popular, familiar story line in the comic books that happened immediately following the exodus of the prison, and it is entirely possible that we will be touching in some way on that very popular story line," said Kirkman.

That Hunter storyline is the only big glaring omission from the comics so far the series has skipped over.

If you've been watching the show closely, there have been a few hints that the group who has taken Rick and his gang hostage are feasting on more than woodland critters.

At the end of season 4, we see Rick, Michonne, and the gang running through Terminus.  In that time, they pass through that creepy candlelight vigil to the deceased. Could it be to those who have given their lives at Terminus?

daryl terminus the walking dead

In one of the newest teasers for the show's return, we see what looks like a person strapped to a table while another man hovers above him doing ... something. It doesn't look pretty.

the walking dead season 5 torture

The most telling hint though may come from an image AMC released at the end of season four and since is nowhere to be found on the network's press site. Here we see Rick and Michonne going up against chained zombies while walking through what look like piles of human remains at Terminus. We first mentioned this image when showing off some behind-the-scenes images to close out the season.

the walking dead bones

Kirkman has reiterated to EW that the majority of viewers' questions will be answered by minute two or three of the season premiere. Of course, it will also open up a series of further questions to ponder.

The new season of "The Walking Dead" premieres October 12 on AMC.

Based on several product listings on the online retailer Newegg, which have since been removed, IGN says the bestselling cross-platform adventure “Grand Theft Auto V” will hit the PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on Nov. 18.

gta_5_newegg

Rockstar Games, the developer behind the “Grand Theft Auto” franchise, had promised next-gen versions of “Grand Theft Auto V” for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One consoles back in July, but didn’t say when the remastered titles would arrive on those systems.

Rockstar said the new “Grand Theft Auto V” would take “full advantage” of the new consoles with “across-the-board graphical and technical improvements to deliver a stunning new level of detail, increased draw distances, finer texture details, denser traffic, and enhanced resolutions to bring new life to the cities, towns, deserts and oceans of Rockstar North’s epic reimagining of Southern California."

The enhanced features will also extend to the game’s online universe, “Grand Theft Auto Online,” which offers gamers a chance to customize and upgrade their own characters, compete and cooperate in various missions, or create their own content for other gamers to play.

There will also be plenty of new content, vehicles, weapons, properties, and player customizations available in the next-gen versions of “Grand Theft Auto V.”

Rockstar North has sold over 34 million copies of “Grand Theft Auto V,” which was the second-most expensive video game ever made, costing about $265 million to produce. The game, which generated about $800 million in its first day on the market, has seven Guinness World Records under its belt, including “best-selling action-adventure video game in 24 hours,” and numerous “Game of the Year” awards.

Facebook And Google 'Degrade Our Humanity,' Says 4chan Founder (FB, GOOG)

A couple years ago, 4chan founder Chris Poole gave a speech arguing that Facebook and Google "degrade our humanity."

He said this because Facebook and Google do not allow users to be anonymous.

Poole's argument was that by forcing users to go be their real names online, Facebook and Google force these users to live a single version of themselves online – the public-friendly version.

Poole believes people actually have many versions of themselves offline – one for the office, one for home, one for the family, one for strangers. He believes people should be able to live as richly online as they do offline.

Watch A Beautiful $266,000 Art Sculpture Burn To The Ground During Burning Man

On Friday, a giant sculpture of a man and woman titled "Embrace" was burned to the ground at Burning Man.

Made from 160,000 lbs of wood, "Embrace" is a 72-foot-tall wooden cathedral-like sculpture on the same scale as the Statue of Liberty.

Built by The Pier Group with help from a Kickstarter campaign that raised over $52,000, the giant sculpture is meant to be a "celebration of all our relationships." All in, "Embrace" took about $266,000 and tons of volunteers to create.

But the area where sunlight previously streamed through the eyes of the 26-foot head was replaced by fire on Friday as the structure was ceremoniously burned to the ground.

Burning Man GIF 2

It wasn't long before the entire statue was engulfed in flames.

Burning Man GIF 4

Here's a view from further away, showing how much distance was actually between the burning structure and the people on the playa.

Burning Man GIF 6

While many art sculptures are ignited at Burning Man, material must first be placed on a preapproved "burn platform," elevated from the playa surface for the land's protection.

As part of Burning Man's "Leave No Trace Policy," all remnants of the burn must be cleaned up and removed from the land at the end of the festival.

Watch the full video below (burn begins at 6:45).

When the "Embrace" Kickstarter first launched, lead artist Matthew Schultz explained: "We've already raised about $106,000, but we still need to raise another $160,000."

According to the "Embrace" website, it wasn't easy to raise the extra money:

"To make this whole operation happen we have independently raised funds, held fundraisers, used coordinators/volunteers, sold swag, operated a website, run advertising, created proposals, written grants, solicited transportation; engaged design, build team and lighting crews. In all, it has taken thousands of people-hours."

"Casa de Shenandoah," the Las Vegas home owned by singer Wayne Newton — a.k.a. Mr. Las Vegas — for more than 45 years, has been majorly discounted, according to real estate website Redfin

The 36-acre property was initially listed for $70 million in September 2013. The home was taken off the market and re-listed a month later for $48 million, and then finally discounted to $30 million on Tuesday.

The estate has eight separate homes, a huge garage, 37 stables, a tennis court, and even its own jumbo jet and terminal.

Even crazier, it once had a functioning zoo with Arabian horses, sloths, penguins, lemurs, and more than 100 birds. Newton moved in June 2013 after a legal battle over the future of the property, and the animals were relocated to wildlife centers.

The main house at Casa de Shenandoah is a two-story structure with three bedrooms, 6.5 bathrooms, and more than 9,000 square feet.

There's also a nice swimming pool in the backyard.

The entire property spans 36 acres, and has eight separate homes.

Game Developers Are Finally Stepping Up To Change Their Hate-Filled Industry

computers gamers cyber

The game industry has been in the spotlight for the past week, with several incidents of harassment and sexism making headlines. And now the game developer community has had enough.

Andreas Zecher, an indie game designer who works for Spaces of Play, has written an open letter to the gaming community on Medium.

"We believe that everyone, no matter what gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion or disability has the right to play games, criticize games and make games without getting harassed or threatened," the letter reads. "It is the diversity of our community that allows games to flourish."

It then says that if people see any form of harassment on places such as Twitter or Facebook, to report them on the respective sites. It also says people should take a public stand against any form of harassment.

More than 2,000 industry professionals have signed the open letter, including from big-name players, such as Ubisoft, Microsoft, Electronic Arts, and BioWare.

Signups for the letter have since been closed. "Writing and signing a letter is easy. Making change happen is hard," Zecher writes.

There's been backlash to the letter. Zecher tweeted that people have signed the petition using fake names, so that they can then claim the list of supporters has been padded.

And even gamers themselves have started their own petition on Change.org. "We are asking indie developers, AAA developers, and other folks to stop branding gamers as neckbearded, misogynistic, hatefueled, ignorant, homophobic, idiots," the petition reads.

As of this writing it has more than 3,000 signatures.

Zecher's open letter comes in the wake of several incidents involving harassment within the video game industry. Video game critic Anita Sarkeesian was forced to leave her house after she received a ton of threats following a video she did critiquing how women are portrayed in video games.

Game developer Zoe Quinn was harassed after a former boyfriend wrote a blog post about her, accusing her of having personal relationships with video game journalists. The gaming community exploded, alleging that her personal relationships advanced her career and that the game journalism industry is corrupt, and culminating in a trending #GamerGate hashtag on Twitter

Game developer Phil Fish came to Quinn's defense, which led to hackers taking down his studio's website, and posting his personal information online.

And a Sony Online Entertainment exec's plane was diverted after hackers tweeted a phony bomb threat to American Airlines.

And all this over video games.

The gaming industry landscape has changed. As have the people who are playing the games. The Entertainment Software Association reports that 48% of people who play video games are women. And more adult women are playing video games (36%) than boys 18 and younger (17%).

"Gamers are over. That's why they’re so mad," writes Leigh Alexander over on Gamasutra.

Joseph Bernstein at BuzzFeed writes, "[Video games] are becoming simply another medium — one with no inherent bias towards any group. In twenty years, it may sound as old-fashioned to call someone a 'gamer' as it is to call someone a 'moviegoer.' And we may well look back at these few weeks in 2014 as the moment when the medium finally separated from the limitations put on it from outside, and from within."

An open letter to end harassment is a good start. And an even better next step would be for the game developers and designers to continue the trend, and continue making more games that appeal to everyone.

One Huge Change In The 'Frozen' Story Line Helped Make It A Billion-Dollar Movie

frozen

It took Disney nearly 70 years to bring its most successful animated picture, "Frozen" to theaters.

Walt Disney tried adapting Hans Christian Andersen's "The Snow Queen" as early as the 1930s; however, he could never get the story quite right.

After the studio revisted the story in recent years, the resulting film was an instant hit in theaters making more than $1 billion to date.

But a new special on ABC, "“The Story of Frozen: Making a Disney Animated Classic,” reveals that one big change in the film could have cost the Mouse House its billion-dollar movie.

While the film revolves around two sisters, Queen Elsa and Princess Anna, early sketches show the two weren’t originally related. Anna was a peasant who asked an evil Snow Queen to freeze her broken heart.

Elsa's character looked completely different. She originally had light blue skin and short, spiky blue hair. She even had a coat made out of living weasels. elsa frozen sketches

anna elsa early sketch

"Elsa was going to be the complete antagonist," says director and screenwriter Jennifer Lee in the book "The Art of Frozen." "They kept calling her the 'villain.' But there came a point where we said, 'We can't use that word anymore.' You care about someone who's been forces to hide who they are. Elsa's not a villain, she just makes some bad choices because she's in a very difficult situation."

According to the ABC special, a big push for the character's redesign came from songwriter husband and wife duo Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez who were working on a song to go with the character.

"We were still writing a villain song and we started getting into the headspace of what you'd feel like if you were that isolated," says Anderson-Lopez.

"We knew in this moment that she would go through a transformation," said Lopez. "From repressed to letting her powers out ... trying to get away from society and be who she really was."

elsa let it go frozen

From there, "Let It Go" was born and Lee knew she had to rewrite the film's script to accommodate for the change in Elsa's character.

"The issue that kept coming up is, 'What do Anna and Elsa have to do with each other? Why does it matter, and how could it matter more?'" says Lee. "Someone in the room said, "What if they were sisters?"

Women from Disney Animation collaborated together in what was called a Sister Summit where they all discussed their own relationships growing up with sisters in order to strengthen the characters.

"Elsa became more the yin to Anna's yang, as opposed to the bad guy," Lee recalls in "The Art of Frozen."

frozen elsa annaIn the end, it was worth it. Instead of an Evil Queen, Elsa's character took on a more symbolic nature as a misunderstood individual who others could identify with.

And instead of delivering a predictable fairytale ending with the power of "true love's kiss," "Frozen" flipped Disney's traditional princess model on its head by emphasizing the importance of family over any potential romance. That theme and the bond between sisters Elsa and Anna helped make it a universal film in 2013.

Netflix Is Paying A Huge Amount For Fox's 'Gotham' Even Though It Hasn't Aired Yet

gotham ben mckenzie

Netflix is making a big bet on one of this fall's new TV shows before it even airs.

The site has already made a deal to stream Fox's Batman prequel series, "Gotham," before the show has even premiered.

Deadline reports Netflix paid Warner Bros. $1.75 million per episode. The series will follow Batman's origin story with a young Bruce Wayne and younger versions of some of Batman's biggest foes including Poison Ivy, The Penguin, and Catwoman. Ben McKenzie ("Southland") will play detective James Gordon who goes on to become the Commissioner.

Under the deal, Netflix will have the exclusive streaming rights to the new series. What's more is that the streaming service will not only offer "Gotham" in the U.S. but in all of its territories including new ones set to launch.

This could be a risky move for Netflix if the Batman show without Batman gets cancelled. However, Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos called "Gotham" "the most anticipated new series of the fall season" in a statement.

Netflix also recently picked up the rights to NBC's "The Blacklist" at a reported $2 million-per-episode deal.

Each season of the show will be available after its broadcast run on air. It's believed "Gotham" won't be on Netflix until next September.

"Gotham" premieres September 22 on Fox.
