'Millionaire Matchmaker' Contestant Conned His Way To 15 Minutes Of Fame

0
0

michael-prozer-matchmakerThere is Earth-shattering news in the world of reality television this week. It seems that a contestant misrepresented himself in order to get on a show for his proverbial 15 minutes of fame. Tampa resident Michael Prozer, a self-proclaimed internet mogul worth $400 million, managed to pass through the ironclad vetting process of Millionaire Matchmaker.

As it turns out, Prozer doesn’t own a mansion and a private jet -- as he’d claimed on a 2009 episode of the Bravo (GE) series. Appearing as the CEO of Xchangeagent Inc., an online payment service à la PayPal (EBAY) that operates in 36 countries, Prozer scammed producers into setting him up with one of the dating service’s gold diggers-in-waiting.

But Prozer didn’t just defraud producers of a reality show, he took his con all the way to the bank. With the help of Fedor Stanley Salinas, a financial specialist at Wachovia Bank (WB), Prozer was able to fake deposits worth over $21 million in an account in order to procure a $3 million short-term business loan from Park Avenue Bank in Valdosta, Georgia. Prozer and Salinas set up meetings, both on the phone and in-person, between Park Avenue Bank and people posing as Wachovia employees, who verified his account status.

No such collateral existed, the loan was never repaid, and the Park Avenue Bank took the $3 million hit. Last year, it was forced out of business.

Like the happy ending scripted for any reality show worth its salt, the con artist and his accomplice finally got caught. This week in federal court, Prozer and Salinas pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit mail, wire, and bank fraud.

Interestingly, Elana, Prozer’s date on Millionaire Matchmaker, may have been onto him from the beginning. When he took her out to go jet skiing, she seemed to get the sense that he was pretending to be something he wasn’t.

“He was more interested in performing,” she said in a confessional. “He felt the need to make his penis look like it’s bigger than it is by driving around like an a******.” Adding, “It definitely exposes him for what he is.”

Prozer claimed in his own confessional, “I love jet skiing and I'll keep doing it.”

A Day In The Life: 'Soup' Host And 'Community' Actor Joel McHale

Joel McHale

The only person who may have more jobs in Hollywood than Ryan Seacrest is his (jokingly, we think) E! nemesis, Joel McHale.

McHale starts his day at E! Entertainment studios, where he films his hit weekly show "The Soup," then heads to NBC's "Community" set, and finally ends his day at home as husband and father of two.

But before McHale was such a multitasker, he was just a struggling actor.

"My wife and I made a five year plan that if things weren't really going anywhere then I'll go back to Seattle and do weather and traffic," McHale revealed in filmmaker Morgan Spurlock's latest "Day in The Life" episode on Hulu.

And luckily for McHale, he booked "The Soup" in 2004, four years into the plan.

"My goal was to use 'The Soup' to get myself out there and get the auditions I wanted," says McHale.

And apparently it worked.

Joel, in his Porsche, pulls into the E! Entertainment parking lot in the early morning hours.

Welcome to the E! studios, where Joel shoots his weekly show...

VIDEO: Michelle Obama Tells Employers Why They Need To Hire Vets

0
0

Four years after her appearance on The Colbert Report, First Lady Michelle Obama sat down with Steven Colbert again to talk about her program Joining Forces. The program, which had its one year anniversary yesterday, is an initiative to provide support to service members and their families.

As young veterans struggle with high unemployment rates, Obama says  that hiring veterans actually improves bottom line of companies:

"These people are bringing in skills that actually improve the bottom line of companies, because these are some of the most highly trained, highly skilled, disciplined people we have in our society - the best this country has to offer. So, we all need to do out part."

Colbert agreed, saying that by hiring a veteran to work within your company, it will make the inter-office complaining seem "trivial" compared to stories from his experience overseas.

In the second part of her interview, Obama explained why she decided to make helping military families part of her agenda.

Lawsuit Shows 'Jersey Shore' Star Pauly D Makes How Much Money?

0
0

Pauly-D-Money-Salary

"Jersey Shore" star Paul "DJ Pauly D" DelVecchio is being sued by International Creative Management, which claims it is owed a chunk of DelVecchio's "Jersey Shore" pay -- and as the lawsuit points out, that's a boatload of money.

The suit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday, claims that DelVecchio and his company, Blowout Enterprises, entered into a representation agreement in January 2010 -- shortly after "Jersey Shore" premiered on MTV.

Read the full lawsuit here.

According to ICM, the agency negotiated increasingly large fees for DelVecchio as the popularity of "Jersey Shore" ballooned, in exchange for 10 percent of DelVecchio's gross compensation. The suit says that the agreement worked out until season 4 of the show, when DelVecchio stopped paying the commission, the suit alleges.

And given the numbers involved, that commission adds up to a pretty penny.

The suit claims that, for Season 4 of "Jersey Shore," Pauly D's compensation was $100,000 for each of the 12 episodes, plus a $400,000 signing bonus, adding up to a cool $1.6 million -- and that's not including compensation for after-shows, a launch special, reunion show, merchandising and other compensation. (According to the complaint, DelVecchio received $200,000 as a "thank you" bonus for Season 4.)

And it gets even richer. ICM claims that for the upcoming Season 6 of "Jersey Shore," DelVecchio will rake in $175,000 for each of 12 episodes -- making for a total of $2.1 million. And again, that's not including after-shows, etc.

DelVecchio's lawyer, Hillary H. Hughes, contends that the "Jersey Shore" star owes ICM nothing, and accuses ICM of trying to "take advantage" of its former association with Pauly D.

"We are surprised by ICM’s contention that it is due commissions after ICM was terminated in favor of William Morris Endeavor," Hughes said in a statement provided to TheWrap. "ICM was paid for its services. It is even more disappointing that an agency like ICM would choose to take advantage of its former relationship with a client and disclose his confidential business affairs to the public in disregard of any duties it owes as a talent agency."

The suit says that DelVecchio and ICM parted ways in May 2011, but that ICM is still due a 10 percent commission on any deals it put in play.

According to ICM, DelVecchio owes the agency $370,703.73 in back commission for Seasons 4 and 5, plus 10 percent of whatever DelVecchio takes in from Season 6.

The suit also calls for a written accounting of DelVecchio's compensation, pre-judgment interest, costs of the suit, and "such other and further relief as the Court may deem just and proper."

Brad Pitt Angelina Jolie

UPDATE: CNN just confirmed that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are engaged.

"Yes, it's confirmed. It is a promise for the future, and their kids are very happy. There's no date set at this time. Brad designed the ring," Pitt's representative told CNN.

--

Forget the red carpet, it appears Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie may finally walk down a different aisle.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jolie was spotted wearing a ring on her wedding finger April 11 at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art's Chinese Galleries.

Though neither engagement nor ring have been confirmed by Jolie's camp, a rep of Beverly Hills jeweler Robert Procop confirms the designer created a ring for the actress.

"I can confirm that, yes, Robert Procop did indeed design an engagement ring for Angelina Jolie, designed in collaboration with Brad Pitt," said the jeweler's rep.

Rumors of a wedding brewed after Pitt told CBS the couple was receiving pressure from the kids.

"It means something to them," he continued. "We will [get married] someday, we will. It's a great idea. 'Get mommy a ring.' 'OK, I will, I will.' "

This Week In Movie Trailers: Joseph Gordon-Levitt Has To Kill His Future Self And More

Trailers-Week-Three-Looper

In week number three of our trailer roundup, we get a glimpse into the mysterious life of Edgar Allen Poe in "The Raven." Apparently he liked to solve police cases and looked eerily similar to John Cusack

Quick someone give Poe a boombox

Also, take a look at Samuel L. Jackson playing a reformed convict, Miley Cyrus misbehaving (not a surprise) and yet another installment in the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" franchise.

"The Samaritan" –April 20th

In this low-budget crime drama, Samuel L. Jackson plays a convict who has been released from prison after 25 years. He meets a nice girl and is trying to put his past behind him but his former partner's son comes a-calling with a new heist plan and a new target.

"The Raven" –April 27th

Edgar Allen Poe's stories are causing someone to commit heinous murders around 19th century Baltimore.

Poe himself is called in as a suspect at first and then as a helper to catch the killer as dead bodies keep piling up. The movie stars John Cusack, "Immortals" star Luke Evans and "She's Out of My League" chick Alice Eve.

Let's hope Poe and the police can solve the case so the murder can kill "nevermore."

"LOL" –May 4th (limited)

Miley Cyrus stars in this remake of a 2008 French film about a young girl on a journey of self-discovery. Along the way she experiences a sexual awakening, takes drugs and tries to help her mother cope with her divorce.

Sounds familiar ...

Biggest Celebrity Side Business FAILS

0
0

Kim-Kardashian-Naomi-Campbell-Failed-Business

We've shown you the celebrities who have made a name for themselves in businesses outside of their chosen industries, but what about the ones who weren't so lucky?

These are some of the biggest stars' biggest business fails. While not all of them are completely out of businesses, Oprah's disastrous OWN is still on the air, but many of these celebrities need a crash course in entrepreneurship.

Take a look at these ridiculous, irritating, or terribly thought out side ventures.

Nicky Hilton didn't inherit the "hotel" gene.

Nicky Hilton is terrible at making hotels.

How ironic.

The hotel heiress strayed away from the family business by attempting to build a 94-room luxury hotel located on Ocean Drive in Miami just in time for the 2007 Super Bowl. The suites would have been priced at $1,000 a night for the big game, and Hilton even started preparing for a secondary location to be set in Chicago.

However, the building was plagued with problems from the ground up and it was never finished. The icing on the cake was when Hilton's contractors sued her for improperly advertising and endorsing the hotel. The heiress should probably just stick to designing clothing lines and beauty products.

Natalie Portman tried too hard to be eco-friendly.

In 2008, Natalie Portman decided to appease all of the vegan people around the world by introducing a new vegan-friendly line of footwear.

The company with whom Portman collaborated, Te Casan, released the shoe with a steep price tag of $275 for a pair of heels.

Not even a whole year later, the parent company and Portman's creation were shut down because of low sales.

The Kardashians are terrible at banking. Not a surprise.

Considering how much the Kardashians love putting their "K" monikers on everything, a prepaid card seemed like the obvious way to go.

The Kardashian Kard was created in 2010 for teens who wanted to have the experience of a card and for parents who wanted to control their kids' spending habits.

But the card was filled with ridiculous fees from the starter fee of $60 to $100, to the Bill Pay-Per Item fee of $2. Check out the rest of the ridiculous fees here

The card was "kanceled" less than a month after its release and the Kardashians disavowed it completely. "Saturday Night Live" was quick to make jokes at the sisters' expense

Top Viral Videos Of The Week: Girl Gets Literally Blown Away By A Plane

princess-juliana-international-airport-landing

The St. Marteen International Airport is one of the most dangerous airports in the world.

Due to the short length of one of the airport's runways, planes have to take off and land just feet away from Maho Beach, which has since become a popular tourist spot for aviation enthusiasts.

Problem is, plane spotters on Maho Beach are so close to the action that they run a real risk of being blown away by the jet blasts from departing aircrafts. One plane spotter decided to get as close to the action as she could by hanging on to the fence separating the airport runway and the beach.

Not surprisingly, the spotter was flung across the beach. She was literally blown away by the plane and landed on her face. Ouch.

Uploaded last Friday, the video of the girl being blown away by a plane has nearly 5 million views; making it the second most popular video of the week on YouTube. Apparently, people like watching other people fall on their faces.

Here Are The 10 Most Profitable TV Shows Of 2011

jessica-sanchez-american-idol-2012

The most lucrative TV show of 2011 was (surprise!) American Idol. Looking at data from adspend measurement company Kantar Media, Dorothy Pomerantz of Forbes found that American Idol generated an average of $6.64 million in ad revenue for every half-hour it was on air.

The networks that cracked Forbes' top 10 list of the most lucrative TV shows are ABC (4), CBS (3), and Fox (3). Of course, that means NBC missed the cut entirely. Ouch.

Mad Love, a CBS comedy, cracks the list as the ninth highest earning TV show of 2011, even though it was canceled last May. The discontinued sitcom received high ad revenue because of its favorable timeslot between How I Met Your Mother and Two and a Half Men on CBS.

Forbes and Kantar Media got their ad revenue estimates based on how much ad buyers would pay for 30-second spots before a show's premiere. From generic CBS comedy sitcoms to singing (and dancing) reality contests, check out the 10 highest earning TV shows of 2011.

Take A Look At Diet Coke's Newest Madonna-Inspired Bottles (KO)

gaultier-dietcoke2

In early March, Coca Cola announced that Jean Paul Gaultier would be joining the company as Diet Coke's new creative director. The fashion designer would be tasked with creating new ad campaigns, limited edition cans and bottles, as well as online content.

But unlike most creative directors (at ad agencies at least) Gaultier has put himself front and center in Diet Coke's latest campaign.

The ads, which promote the limited edition bottles that he designed, feature the Gaultier's face on two different women's bodies. The first ad features the designer's trademark Breton stripe both on the bottle and the model, while the second bears a strong resemblance to Madonna during her cone bra phase (a look that Gaultier designed for the pop star).

Unfortunately, these bottles are only sold in Europe at this time.

Of course, Gaultier is not the first designer that Coca Cola has enlisted to spice up the design of its trademark contour bottle.

In 2011, a large group of Italian designers, including Fendi, Moschino, and Versace, translated their trademark styles on to Coca Cola bottles for the Tribute to Fashion night in Milan. Proceed from the sales of those bottles went to various charitable foundations around Italy.

And while most of these special designs have only been available in Europe, Karl Lagerfeld and Diane Von Furstenberg designed bottles that were sold in the U.S. in 2011 and 2012, respectively.

steve jobs ashton kutcherSteve Jobs: Get Inspired.

That's the working title for the upcoming independent Steve Jobs biopic starring Ashton Kutcher. The title was revealed by producer Mark Hulme in an interview with Neo Win.

The Verge first picked up Hulme's interview.

Hulme also said the movie will document Steve Jobs' life between 1971 and 2000, which is pretty much the same time frame as the movie Pirates of Silicon Valley.

And what made the producers choose Kutcher to play Jobs? Hulme said Kutcher looks a lot like Jobs did during the period the film covers. Kutcher was reportedly very excited for the project after reading the script.

Get Inspired won't be the only Steve Jobs biopic coming out soon. Sony is producing a film that will be loosely based on Walter Isaacson's official Jobs biography.

Mad Men Highlights: Gut Reactions To Pete Getting Punched In The Gut

0

pete mad men punch

Every Monday, Business Insider Advertising does a recap of the week's latest episode of "Mad Men." While the full recap is on its way, here are some of the highlights from episode five, titled "Studio 30," to get you through the night.

- The world rejoices when Pete Campbell finally gets the ass kicking he so desperately deserves, surprisingly at the knuckles of Lane (whom Pete calls obsolete and homosexual). Looking more and more like a less endearing version of Stewie from "Family Guy" (blame the weight gain, hair loss, and endless stream of pomposity), Pete has easily become one of the show's most dislikable characters. Apart from the expected obnoxious comments to Roger, Peter, and even Don, here's why Pete deserved a whooping in this episode:

  • Pete is in Driver's Ed, ostensibly so that he can drive home after the last train leaves Manhattan for the 'burbs and spend less time with Trudy and his baby.
  • While at Driver's Ed, Pete is trying to have sex with a high school student. It's exactly as creepy as it sounds.
  • Pete finally does cheat on Trudy with a hooker who calls him her "King."

-Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce loses the Jaguar account in the best way ever, following Don, Roger, and Pete's raucous night on the town (code for night in a high class whore house) with the company's jolly English SVP, Edwin. Why did they lose the account, which was a sure thing, you may well ask? Edwin's wife caught him with "chewing gum in his pubics." If you have to go down, that's a hell of a way to do it.

-Joan's back in the office. Her reward for brightening the lives of the men of Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce? A big, fat, nonconsensual kiss from Lane when she brings him an ice pack for his bloodied, Pete punching, knuckles. The queen of office etiquette responds by getting up, quietly opening Lane's office door, and continuing to comfort him.

-Ken Cosgrove is still secretly writing … sci-fi. His nom de plume is Ben Hargrove, and he is actively being pursued by Farrar Straus for a collection of short stories. The looks on the Drapers' and Campbells' faces when Cosgrove's wife describes the plot of one of his stories, starring a robot, are priceless.

-Apparently Ken and Peggy have a pact that if one goes to another agency, the other will go with. Maybe it was the long hiatus, but who remembered they were friends?

-The dinner party had fantastic moments. One was Don's atrocious, plaid sports coat. Another was when he stripped off said sports coat and button down to get down and dirty and fix a broken faucet turned geyser. Megan could hardly contain herself, and the couple had sex halfway through the drive back into the city (after Don proclaims, "Let's make a baby.")

-Almost every sentence out of Roger's mouth is gold.

Check back Monday morning for the full recap.

Mad Men: Here's That Awkward Look On Everyone's Face When They Hear About Ken Cosgrove's Story About Robots

Don Draper disgusted face

When we weren't watching the hour-long emasculation of Pete Campbell, episode five of "Mad Men" also reintroduced us to Ken Cosgrove (remember him?) and his budding career as the Isaac Asimov of the Tri-State Area.

Despite keeping his writing career on the down-low since the Atlantic Monthly publication of “Tapping a Maple on a Cold Vermont Morning,” Cosgrove has successfully been writing sci-fi under the nom de plum Ben Hargrove. Farrar Straus even wants to publish a collection of his short stories.

When Cosgrove's wife, Cynthia, reveals his little secret to the plaid blazer wearing men at Trudy Campbell's dinner party, the expressions on everyone's faces upon hearing the plot of Cosgrove's (starring a frustrated robot caught between two planets) look as if they just found out someone spit in the fondue.

Cynthia begins explaining the sci-fi plot.

Pete doesn't get it.

Trudy doesn't get it.

The 'Hunger Games' Torches The Competition With $500 Million Worldwide—Here's Your Box-Office Roundup

three-stooges-cabin-in-the-woods

Can anything beat out "The Hunger Games"?

The film has earned $337.1 million domestically, making it the first film since "Avatar" to take the top spot four weekends in a row. ("Avatar" held the number one spot for eight consecutive weeks.)

New openings are out of their league.

"The Three Stooges" disappoints with a smaller opening than other TV-to-film adaptations, and "the Cabin in the Woods," which felt like a horror version of "Hunger Games"—think teenagers picked off one by one in a cabin at the hands of a reality TV show—performed adequately for a horror comedy.

"Titanic 3D" performs well in accordance with its anniversary, "Wrath of the Titans" is on track to earn half of its $150 million budget and it's an underwhelming return to theaters for Guy Pearce in "Lockout."

(BoxOfficeMojo)

10. "Dr. Seuss' The Lorax" holds out one more week to round out the top ten, earning $3 million.

9. Guy Pearce's return to theaters in the thriller "Lockout" opened to an underwhelming $6.3 million. The Luc Besson production earned less than "Colombiana" ($10.4 million) and "Transporter 3" ($12.1 million) its opening weekend.

8. "21 Jump Street" drops two spots to eight this week. The film just missed the seven spot grossing $6.8 million at the box office.
