North Korea Hates Seth Rogen's New Movie

comedy central roast james franco seth rogen

Don't expect to see James Franco and Seth Rogen joining Dennis Rodman on any North Korean vacations in the near future.

The well-known pals have been condemned by the regime for their upcoming movie "The Interview" which pokes fun at the Dear Leader.

"There is a special irony in this storyline as it shows the desperation of the U.S. government and American society," a spokesman for Kim Jong Un told The Guardian. "A film about the assassination of a foreign leader mirrors what the US has done in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Ukraine. And let us not forget who killed [President John F] Kennedy – Americans."

The regime is understandably upset, as the movie sees Rogen and Franco playing celebrity journalists who are recruited by the U.S. government to assassinate Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.

The pair is also briefed on the propaganda coming from the regime, which includes the claim that Kim Jong-Un never defecates or urinates, and he can speak to dolphins.

It's not hard to imagine that the Hermit Kingdom might not find the idea of assassinating their leader funny, but an official response to an American comedy might be sillier than the movie.

The movie hits theaters in October. In the meantime, you can watch the teaser trailer below:

dj set upCollaborating with fellow music producers isn't always easy.

Enter Splice, a music startup co-founded by former GroupMe cofounder Steve Martocci.

Splice helps electronic dance music creators save, share, collaborate, and remix music by working alongside professional music creation tools like Ableton Live.

For one, Splice offers musicians access to all of their revisions in the cloud.

Let's say you made an awesome song using Ableton Live, but kept working on it. Next thing you know, the song sounds totally different and you can't remember what made the older version sound so good. That's where Splice comes in. With Splice, you can access your entire revision history — a feature that isn't possible with Ableton Live and ProTools.

Splice is a downloadable client for your computer. Once you create your tracks in Ableton Live, the majority of your future interactions between with music will happen on the web.

Splice also aims to help artists better understand the building blocks, or DNA, of a song. Splice lets musicians see and analyze each specific element of a track, be it a MIDI, a clip, a musical instrument, etc.

Programmers have a wide variety of tools to help them develop and understand code. The Splice team says those same principles should apply to the music creation process.

"We care about that never-ending, unfinished piece of work," Splice CEO Steve Martocci previously told Business Insider. "We look at two-channel tracks like you'll listen to as the compiled code."

Back in October, Splice raised a $2.75 million seed round led by Union Square Ventures. Splice is still beta only.

When you open up Splice, you'll be able to see all of the projects you've created and all of the ones you're collaborating on.

splice

The coolest part about Splice is that you can access, download, and remix the work of other producers in the community.

splice

If you like what you hear, click "SPLICE" to see details like which plugins the person used, which samples are in the track, etc.

splice

If you want to remix the work, hit "Open." You can see below that we've already played around with the mix, while leaving the original fully in tact.

splice project timeline

Bada-bing, bada-boom. Now we can remix and tweak the track!

If you want to share your project, you can decide to make it public. That way, anyone can discover, listen, remix your work, and provide feedback.

Why Actress Keira Knightley Gives Herself A $50,000 Annual Allowance

Keira Knightley

Actress Keira Knightley is a regular on the big screen, appearing in everything from the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise to the Oscar-nominated "Atonement," but that doesn't mean the 29-year-old is spending the big bucks.

After Glamour magazine asked Knightley about rumors that she allots herself $50,000 each year, the actress said in an interview: "Yes, it’s something around that. I mean, if I want or need something that goes over that, I get it, but, yes, around that."

While it may sound like a lot to some, Knightley's net worth is a reported $50 million, thanks to international hits like "Bend It Like Beckham" and "Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl," which earned over $654 million at the global box office.

In 2008, Forbes named Knightley the second-highest-paid actress in Hollywood, after she raked in $32 million that year for her roles in "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," "Atonement," and advertisements for Chanel's Coco Mademoiselle perfume.

So why does Knightley even bother giving herself a budget?

"I think living an expensive lifestyle means you can’t hang out with people who don’t live that lifestyle," she says. "It alienates you. Some of my best, most hilarious times have been in the least luxurious places."

Knightley, who married Klaxon keyboardist James Righton last May, makes an effort to separate her personal life from her high-profile day job.

"I deal with it by thinking that the person on the red carpet is entirely separate from the person I am in my day-to-day life, and from the person I am on the film set or when somebody recognizes me on the street," she explains to the mag. "It’s obviously not the healthiest way of doing it or the happiest way of doing it, because when all those worlds collide, it can all get a bit schizo, but it is the only way I think I can [live]."

The '22 Jump Street' Directors Have Had A String Of Unexpected Box-Office Hits

phil lord chris miller lego movie

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are two of the most in-demand directors in Hollywood right now.

If you're not familiar with their names, then you and your kids are definitely familiar with the duo's movies: "The LEGO Movie," the "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" franchise (they wrote the story for the sequel), and both "21 Jump Street" and its sequel out this past weekend, "22 Jump Street."

"The LEGO Movie" was the unexpected break-out hit of February, and is now one of the highest-grossing movies of the year. Lord and Miller are already working on a script for a sequel.

Lord, 37, and Miller, 38, met while attending Dartmouth College and began working together on animation.

The two have been able to make successful break-out movies on relatively modest budgets. ("The LEGO Movie" cost an estimated $60 million to make.)

One of the reasons behind Lord and Miller's success is that their films are incredibly self aware. An ongoing gag in "22 Jump Street" pokes fun at sequels. Early in the film, Deputy Chief Hardy (Nick Offerman) delivers a fantastic monologue on the subject to Hill and Tatum's characters.

Below are the box office numbers for Lord and Miller's previous films.

They're a pair you should definitely be keeping your eye on. chris miller phil lord box office

Here's Which Current-Gen Game Console Is Most Popular In Each State, According To Social Media

If you live in California, you're more likely to be an Xbox One fan on Facebook.

You and 559,999 of your buddies all talk about the Xbox One more than the PlayStation 4 or Wii U.

The Motovo Blog took a look at which consoles garnered the most likes on Facebook in each state, and here are the results:

console map

The data was based on "likes" of the current-gen consoles: the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Wii U.

Across the board, it seems that people "like" the Xbox One more than the PS4: 22 states prefer the Xbox One, 19 states put the PS4 on top, and 9 states still can't decide whether they're team "Halo" or team "Uncharte."

The Wii U didn't get in the winning category in any state, although it didn't do too poorly in California, where 260,000 residents prefer to play Mario games.

Unfortunately, liking the Xbox One hasn't really translated into sales. As of April, As of April, Sony has sold over 7 million consoles. Microsoft has announced it has sold 5 million. At the beginning of June, Microsoft slashed $100 off the price of the Xbox One, hoping to give it a boost in sales. The newly priced console doesn't come with a Kinect, however.

Check out a more-dynamic map on Motovo's site, which gives you actual number of Facebook fans per state.

Sting: My Children Won't Inherit My Wealth

$

sting

Sting's children cannot expect to inherit his multimillion-pound wealth, the rock star has said, joining the ranks of the super-rich who have claimed that passing on their vast fortunes to their offspring could do more harm than good.

The 62-year-old musician, who is estimated to be worth £180m and has three sons and three daughters, said he did not want "to leave them trust funds that are albatrosses round their necks".

"They have to work," he told the Mail on Sunday's Event magazine . "All my kids know that and they rarely ask me for anything, which I appreciate. Obviously, if they were in trouble I would help them, but I've never really had to do that. They have this work ethic that makes them want to succeed on their own merit."

Sting insisted there would in fact not be a huge fortune left for his children, who are aged between 18 and 37.

"I told them there won't be much money left because we are spending it," he said. "We have a lot of commitments. What comes in we spend, and there isn't much left."

Sting, who grew up in working class family in Wallsend on Tyneside, said his hard slog to fame and fortune via playing pubs for £10 a night had built "a resilience and a toughness". Comparing his route to 'overnight stars' of modern pop such as Justin Bieber, he said: "If it had all been handed to me on a plate, I'm not sure I would appreciate it or have survived."

Sting also disclosed that the Queen Mother had been the unlikely inspiration behind his pursuit of fame and fortune. He said he had seen her when she visited the Swan Hunter shipyard near his childhood home and had vowed to himself: "I am going to be rich, famous, successful and drive a Rolls-Royce like her."

Sting is the latest in a long line of high-profile wealthy figures to declare they want their offspring to make their own way in the world.

Bill Gates, the world's richest man, has said that his children could not expect to inherit the vast majority of his estimated $76bn fortune.

“They won’t have anything like that. They need to have a sense that their own work is meaningful and important,” he has been quoted as saying.

“You’ve got to make sure they have a sense of their own ability and what they’re going to go and do.”

Simon Cowell, the music mogul whose son Eric was born earlier this year, has said he will most likely leave his estimated £225 million fortune for charity, explaining: ““I don’t believe in passing on from one generation to another.”

British celebrity chef Nigella Lawson has said she was "determined" that her children should have no financial security as "it ruins people not having to earn money".

Anita Roddick, the Body Shop founder, left her entire £51m fortune to charity after describing leaving money to one's own family as "obscene".

Beatles star Sir Paul McCartney was allegedly once described as “a tight b******” by his daughter Stella after sending her to a comprehensive school.

And John Roberts, the chief executive of white goods retailer ao.com, has said he will not pass his estimated £500m wealth to his children, in order that they could have normal lives and a sense of achievement.

Sony Has A Massive Weekend At The Box Office

think like a man 2

Sony Pictures owned the box office this weekend with the two top movies.

Kevin Hart's "Think Like A Man Too" may not have made as big a splash as expected; however, the film still topped the weekend making $30 million.

That's slightly less than the first film. "Think Like A Man" brought in $33.6 million when it debuted in 2012.

Still, the movie helps continue Hart's hot streak at theaters. His previous two releases this year, "About Last Night," and "Ride Along" have both debuted above $25 million.

The studio's other big sequel, "22 Jump Street," had such a strong second weekend with $29 million that it nearly took the top spot away from Hart's film.

The Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill buddy-cop sequel has now made more than $149 million at theaters in two weeks.

It's great news for Sony. Last summer, the studio was hurting after a bunch of its big films, "After Earth," "White House Down," "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones," "The Smurfs 2," and "Elysium," all underperformed.

Those performances led to the studio announcing a reduction in the number of films put out by Sony after the company posted an operating loss of $181 million in its Q2. Sony said moving forward they would put out an estimated 18 movies, down from its typical 23 per year.

Mark Wahlberg

Not many actors can say they've been a rapper, underwear model, producer, and ex-con, but then again not many actors are Mark Wahlberg.

Born in Boston, Wahlberg has made a name for himself as one of Hollywood's top actors, but he has also gone on to be one of the industry's best businessmen.

Starring in the upcoming "Transformers: Age of Extinction," Wahlberg continues to transform himself into an even bigger star.

See how he became Hollywood's top tough guy.

The youngest of nine children, Wahlberg was born on June 5, 1971 in Dorchester, Massachusetts — a blue-collar neighborhood in Boston.

Source: Biography

Wahlberg eventually dropped out of school at 13 and turned to a life of selling drugs and stealing cars. At 17, Wahlberg went through one of the darkest times in his life when he was arrested for assault. He served a 45-day sentence at one of the worst prisons in Boston.

During this time, faith played huge part in Wahlberg's life and still does today. The actor attends church twice every Sunday and is a devout Irish Catholic. "It’s the most important part of my life," Wahlberg has said. "I don’t try to push it on anybody, and I don’t try to hide it."

It Wasn't Just You — 'The Fault In Our Stars' Cast And Crew Cried While Making The Movie

the fault in our stars john green

It wasn't just audiences who were reduced to puddles of tears while watching teen phenomenon "The Fault in our Stars."

An adaptation of the 2012 best-selling novel of the same name, we caught up with author John Green recently who told us there were a lot of tears shed on set, too.

"I cried every day," Green told Business Insider. "Most people cried much less than I did. I'm a bit of a crier generally. But yeah, certainly there were times when everyone in the room was crying."

The film follows the relationship of two teenagers, Hazel Grace Lancaster and Augustus Waters, who are diagnosed with cancer.

While it's definitely recommended to have a box of tissues on hand while watching, Green said not all of the tears on set were for sad moments in the film.

When the book was picked up by 20th Century Fox to be made into a movie shortly after its release in 2012, the author was there every step of the way to make sure his novel was captured correctly on screen.

"I was just so grateful to all the people who made it. I felt absolutely overwhelmed with gratitude toward the cast and crew and I was crying throughout watching the movie," said Green. "Crying because part of me was relieved, partly because I was overjoyed, [and] partly because I was sad."

"You know, I was worried that I would feel sad that it was over but instead I just felt so grateful to them for finding a way to honor the story," Green added.

Pearl Jam is known for their unique concert-style.

Pretty much every single concert you will hear their classic version of "Jeremy," or "Daughter," or "Better Man," with a little twist.

A lot of times near the end of the song the band will just jam and Eddie Vedder will begin singing a cover of a great classic rock 'n roll song, or a Neil Young tune.

But on Saturday in Milan, Italy, he decided to go a little Disney.

After a performance of the band's hit single "Daughter" from 1993, the band hammered out a piece of "Let It Go," the most famous song from the biggest animated movie of all time — "Frozen."

You Can Now Watch Free TV Episodes From Amazon On Your iPhone Or iPad

Amazon's latest update to its Amazon Instant Video app for iOS now includes free, ad-supported first episodes of select TV shows that non-Prime members usually wouldn't get to watch.

Users will be able to stream the first episodes of shows like "Orphan Black" and "True Blood," as well as a selection from Amazon's recently acquired catalog of HBO shows, including "The Wire" and "The Sopranos," as long as they're willing to sit through a few commercial breaks. The update also brings the rest of Amazon's HBO content to iOS, as TechCrunch points out.

This isn't the first time Amazon has experimented with free, advertising-supported TV outside of what it offers to Prime Instant Video customers: The "first episode free" option is also available on Kindle Fire devices and Roku.

Amazon has denied plans to launch a fully ad-supported free media service to further monetize its digital content beyond Prime Membership or direct sales. However, this new option for iOS users still serves as a way to try to get consumers hooked by the first episode of a show that Amazon sells, so that they'll be more tempted to either sign up for Prime or buy the full series.

This update comes less than a week after Amazon launched its Fire phone, a new smartphone that features "dynamic perspective" effects, which make images feel 3-D, motion-sensing capabilities, and Firefly, Amazon's new visual search engine.

Here's what the "first episode free" option looks like in Amazon's Instant Video app:

24 Incredibly Impressive Kids Graduating From High School This Year

$

incredibly impressive students kids graduating high school BI graphic

Before queuing up "Pomp and Circumstance," let's take a moment to recognize the best and the brightest high-school seniors in the U.S.

All of these wunderkinds — including an Olympic athlete, a cancer survivor, a researcher, a Thiel Fellow, a self-published novelist, and a musical darling who's been admitted to all eight Ivy League schools — show that age has no bearing on what people can accomplish.

Based on reader nominations, local news stories from around the country, and word of mouth, we found the most impressive students graduating from high school this year.

Kate Avino built an online magazine with a team of 30 writers.

High school: Indian Hills High School, Franklin Lakes, New Jersey

What makes her impressive: Avino founded Her Culture magazine so that women around the world would have a place to read about and share experiences, lifestyles, traditions, languages, and customs. She created the website — which has articles, online forums, and a blogging platform — in two days.

Magazine issues are published twice monthly and have featured prominent women such as Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo and Congolese women's-rights activist Neema Namadu. Her Culture partners with organizations like World Reader, Hello Perfect, MissHeard Magazine, and Molly & Fox magazine, to help advance Her Culture's mission.

Avino writes for The Huffington Post and Chelsea Krost and is a member of the National Association for Professional Women and the International Women's Association. At school she is the editor-in-chief of the newspaper and the yearbook.

Plans for next year: Avino will be attending New York University in the fall, majoring in media, culture, and communications and minoring in entrepreneurship. She says she plans to continue working with Her Culture and "kick-starting other magazines to spread women's empowerment."

Ryan Betz completed a half-marathon in all 50 states.

High school: Park Tudor School, Indianapolis, Indiana

What makes him impressive: When he was a freshman, Ryan Betz sat at the kitchen table one day with his mom and racked his brain for a way to give back to the community, which had given him so many opportunities for success. They decided he should run a half-marathon in every state to raise money for charity.

Over the past four years, Betz has run 655 miles and raised $40,000 through his website, ryanrunning.com. He created an endowment allowing inner-city students to attend Park Tudor High School, Betz's private college-preparatory school, tuition-free.

He's talking to Guinness World Records for verification that he is the youngest person to achieve this feat.

Betz averaged one half-marathon a month — running up a mountain in Hawaii, limping through a trailer park in Kansas with a broken toe, and exploring corners of the U.S. that he never expected to visit. "The smaller, more obscure states showed me how truly awesome America is," Betz says.

Plans for next year: Hoping to earn a college track scholarship, Betz will compete next year as a postgraduate at Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire, to beef up his transcript and run faster times.

Saira Blair is on her way to becoming the youngest person to ever serve in the West Virginia Legislature.

High school: Hedgesville High School, Martinsburg, West Virginia

What makes her impressive: Saira Blair turns 18 — the legal voting age — in July, but she's already defeated a two-term incumbent in the primary election for the West Virginia House of Delegates.

"I was surprised that the people in my community understood that someone as young as I am could share their conservative beliefs," says Blair, who characterized herself as a pro-life, pro-family, and pro-jobs fiscal conservative on her campaign fliers. "You don't have to wait until you're 40, 50, or 60 years old to recognize the social and economic benefits of conservative principles."

When Blair decided to run for office, she set out to make a more business-friendly West Virginia. "You can get a good education in W.V. if you choose to. What is difficult to get is a good paying job," says Blair, describing students as "our greatest export."

If elected, she plans to address that issue through tax reforms, judicial reforms, and reducing government bureaucracy.

Plans for next year: Blair plans to double-major in economics and Spanish at West Virginia University this fall. She will appear on the ballot in November, facing off against Democratic candidate Layne Diehl.

"The LEGO Movie" has been one of the highest-grossing movies of the year.

The surprise hit from directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord has taken in $467 million worldwide.

The animated picture came out on DVD and Blu-Ray last week. First, if you haven't seen the movie, you should check it out. If you have seen it, you've probably missed a lot of references or cameos by actors.

We watched the DVD commentary for the film over the weekend where the directors revealed a lot of Easter Eggs you may not have noticed the first time around.

Here are the ones they mentioned along with a few we've picked up on while watching.

Let's start with an easy one.

1. President Business' horns are made out of coffee cups.

His entire wardrobe is a play off of his business persona. His cape is a tie.president business coffee cups

2.Spot the non-Lego

You can see a ruler stand in for a bridge in the opening scene.

4. Emmet's soap suds are Lego pieces.

The bubbles in the early shower scene are ice cream scoops.the lego movie bubbles

5. Look closely at the posters in Emmet's house.

They're nods to Lord and Miller's previous movie, "21 Jump Street." The directors mention "Macho and the Nerd" is actually the Russian title for the film starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill.macho and the nerd lego movie easter egg

The daughter of billionaire activist investor Nelson Peltz, the founder of Trian Fund Management, is starring in the latest Transformers movie.

Nicola Peltz, 19, plays Mark Wahlberg's daughter Tessa Yeager in Transformers: Age of Extinction.

She said the role reminds her of her relationship with her real father.

"I love the human element of this film," Peltz said in an interview recently posted on YouTube.

"My favorite part of the whole movie, you know, having to do with my character is the father/daughter relationship because I'm so close with my dad. I think it's so important to have a strong dad."

Peltz has had roles on television show Bates Motel and the movie The Last Airbender.

She definitely seems like a promising young actress. She's also not the only one in Hollywood in the Peltz family. Her brother William Peltz is also an actor.

John Oliver Hilariously Shows Why Dr. Oz Is A Symptom Of A Much Larger Problem

dr oz on john oliver

It has been a rough couple of weeks for doctor and TV show host Mehmet Oz.

He was recently called to testify before a Senate subcommittee over his promotion of weight loss and dietary supplements that have no proven health benefits. Then, on June 22, comedian John Oliver rubbed salt in the wound with a 16-minute take down of Oz on his HBO show "Last Week Tonight."

Oliver showed several clips of Oz promoting dietary supplements on his daytime program, The Dr. Oz Show, using language like "a miracle cure" and "a miracle flower" to describe them.

"The only problem," Oliver said, "is that magic pills don't technically exist. And Dr. Oz knows that."

Oliver highlighted the stark difference between Oz's reasonable restraint in front of the Senate subcommittee and his enthusiastic endorsement of various "miracles" on his show.

Oz told the subcommittee he was "passionate" about many of the products he featured, even if the scientific evidence wasn't there. "That's fine," Oliver responded, after playing the clip — but not when the passionate, unsubstantiated advice is coming from a doctor. "Don't call your show Doctor Oz," Oliver suggested. "Call it Check This Sh*t Out With Some Guy Named Mehmet."

Oliver then offered some sobering context, noting that the issue of consumer protection against false medical advertising goes far beyond one TV show host. "Dr. Oz is just a symptom of the problem," Oliver said. "The disease is that dietary supplements in the U.S. are shockingly unregulated."

He went on to explain our inefficient and confusing regulatory system, which lets supplements operate independent from almost any oversight. The Federal Trade Commission is supposed to manage the marketing of dietary supplements, but that agency defers to the Food and Drug Administration to determine whether a health claim is accurate. The problem, Oliver explained, is that the FDA can't investigate supplements unless people have already fallen sick.

That lack of regulation means that — before Dr. Oz ever enters the picture — supplements that have not been shown to be either safe or effective can be sold in U.S. stores. "None of this is likely to change," Oliver conceded, "because companies have access to the one genuinely truly effective wonder drug.

"It's called lobbying."
