New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie appeared on the "Tonight Show" with Jimmy Fallon for the first time since the scandal erupted over last September's lane closures on the George Washington Bridge late Thursday evening.

During the show, Christie danced with Fallon in a segment titled "The Evolution of Dad Dancing."

Christie's moves were absolutely incredible:

First Lady Michelle Obama participated in a similar skit with Fallon last year.

Christie left the stage when Fallon referenced his gubernatorial troubles by doing the "Bridge Is Closed" dance.

Watch the full segment featuring Christie showing off his take on the "Lawn Mower," "Belt Grabber," and "Passionate Elliptical" dances below. It will blow your mind.

'Game Of Thrones' Author Wishes Each Season Had More Episodes

0

george rr martin

Like many "Game of Thrones" fans, the author of the book series George R.R. Martin wishes season four wasn't coming to an end Sunday.

Each season of the popular HBO series has lasted 10 episodes, but Martin wishes the seasons could be extended with three more, the New York Times reported

"I'd love to have 13 episodes," Martin told the NYT. "With 13 episodes, we could include smaller scenes that we had to cut, scenes that make the story deeper and richer."

Some of those missed details are minor but nonetheless important for character development, Martin said. He mentioned a scene from the first book where Stark sisters Arya and Sansa argued because the former preferred to play with a poor butcher's boy instead of taking tea with Queen Cersei.

Although viewers never saw that early scene in the TV series, they can watch the actresses acting it out in early auditions.

But if viewers want to see epic battles like the huge one at Castle Black that lasted practically all of last week's episode, some lesser details in the books may have to go by the wayside, Martin acknowledged. The New York Times says each "Game of Thrones" season costs $60-$70 million with every battle being especially expensive.

The Battle of the Blackwater episode from season 2 cost $8 million alone.

It pays off as the HBO series has now surpassed "The Sopranos" to become the network's most popular show.

The "Game of Thrones" season 4 finale airs Sunday at 9 p.m.

DreamWorks Animation Needs 'How To Train Your Dragons 2' To Be A Massive Hit

0

how to train your dragon 2

"How to Train Your Dragons 2" is in theaters this weekend and it needs to be a big hit for DreamWorks Animation.

The studio has taken write-downs on three of its last four movies and has said it needs every movie going forward to be a hit in order to be successful.

That shouldn't be a problem with since the series about a Viking teen, Hiccup, and his dragon is the company's most popular property right now and has the potential to be its most profitable. (DWA believes in it so much that CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg mentioned a third movie back in 2010.)

The "How to Train Your Dragons" sequel is expected to make north of $55 million opening weekend; however, it faces steep competition from "22 Jump Street" starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum. Estimates have that film bringing in closer to $60 million.

$55 million would be a better start than the original film which debuted to $43.7 million, but it wouldn't come anywhere close to one of the best openings for a DreamWorks Animation movie.

The three "Shrek" sequels all opened to more than $70 million, after that two "Madagascar" sequels have made more than $60 million. "How to Train Your Dragons 2" could certainly make more than $55 million, but it's not often that you have two movies opening weekend that both perform above $50 million.

Both new films also have a lot of competition from still popular movies "The Fault in Our Stars," Disney's "Maleficent," and Tom Cruise's "Edge of Tomorrow."

The first "How to Train Your Dragons" film went on to make $494.9 million at theaters.

DWA's last successful film, "The Croods," brought in $587 million worldwide. That movie was a new original property for the studio.

DreamWorks Animation is at least expecting this movie to clear $500 million, if not surpass that of "The Croods." Every single sequel DWA has put out to date has cleared at least $600 million.

Here's how the studio's sequels have fared at theaters:

MovieOpening WeekendWorldwideBudget
"Shrek 2" (2004)$108 million$919.8 million$150 million
"Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" (2008)$63.1 million$603 million$150 million
"Kung Fu Panda 2" (2011)$47.7 million$665.7 million$150 million

The 'Netflix For Pirated Movies' Has Figured Out A Way To Keep You Anonymous

0

Popcorn Time Main Menu

It just became a lot safer to use Popcorn Time.

Legally, Popcorn Time operates in a nebulous gray area. It works by allowing users to stream pirated movies and TV shows without having to worry about deleting the incriminating data afterwards — Popcorn Time does all the dirty work for you. With its streaming option, intuitive Netflix-style interface, and self-tidying service, it's no wonder Popcorn Time has taken off.

TorrentFreak reports Popcorn Time has now included a free virtual private network (VPN) service in its newest Popcorn Time beta. This VPN feature will now automatically mask users' web traffic from their cable service providers.

A VPN acts like a middleman between your computer and the Internet. Traditionally, when you visit a website, a record exists that says your computer requested access to that website using your computer's unique identifier, called an IP address. With a VPN enabled, your computer connects to an outside server first, which assigns a randomized IP address and then requests the website on your behalf, leaving no trace on your part.

Technically, VPN services can still sometimes be linked back to individual computers and users, but there's a few things that set Popcorn Time's VPN service apart. The company running the service, Kebrum, isn't located in the U.S., and the company doesn't keep long-term logs. This acts like a one-two punch to U.S. authorities, as they won't be able to legally request Kebrum's user info — and even if they somehow could, there wouldn't be any user information stored to fork over.

It can be a little confusing, but Popcorn Time figured out an easy way to distill the goal of the VPN service into just one button: Just click the lock icon to turn the cloaking service on or off.

For current Popcorn Time users that want to use the new feature today, you can download the newest beta here.

There's no telling how long Popcorn Time will stick around, but it certainly just got harder for the average user to get caught.

The Original Names Of 10 Huge Hollywood Movies

0

edge of tomorrow poster

Tom Cruise's new movie "Edge of Tomorrow" is out in theaters now; however, it was almost called "All You Need is Kill."

The sci-fi film is based on a novella of the same name by Hiroshi Sakurazaka.

Warner Bros. decided to change the name partly because of negative buzz around the word “kill” in the title.

It's not the only big movie that has undergone a name change.

"Pretty Woman" was originally called "3,000."

The title came from the amount of money Edward Lewis (Richard Gere) offered prostitute Vivian Ward to spend a week with him.

When Michael Eisner originally heard the film pitch from Jeffrey Katzenberg, he was convinced it would be bomb at theaters.

Budget:$14 million
Box Office:$463.4 million

Before "Alien" came to theaters, it was known as "Star Beast."

Writer Dan O’Bannon explained how he came up with the name for the hit sci-fi movie in a 2003 documentary on the film, “The Beast Within: Making Alien.”

“‘Star Beast’ is one of those titles that you think of and then … you throw them away,” said O’Bannon. “I was running through titles and they all stank. I didn’t like any of them. One morning, at three o’clock, at Ronnie’s apartment, I’m typing away writing dialogue and the characters are saying ‘the alien this’ and ‘the alien that.’ Suddenly, that word alien just came up out of the typewriter at me. I said 'Alien. It’s a noun and it’s an adjective ... Yes! That’s it, I have the title!’”

Budget:$11 million
Box Office:$104.9 million

"Return of the Jedi" was nearly "Revenge of the Jedi."

According to “Star Wars” documentary “Empire of Dreams,” producer Howard Kazanjian recalled how George Lucas originally wanted to call the "Star Wars" sequel "Return of the Jedi"; however, he convinced him to change his mind.

“George came to me and said the title of Episode VI is ‘Return of the Jedi,’ and I said I think it’s a weak title,” said producer Howard Kazanjian. “And, he came back one or two days later and he says, ‘We’re calling it ‘Revenge of the Jedi.’”

After posters were released for the film and a theatrical teaser trailer was shown in theaters, Lucas decided to change the name weeks before the film’s release.

“Just before it got to the theaters, George came back and he said, ‘I want to go back to ‘Return of the Jedi,’" said Kazanjian. “The logic behind that was a Jedi does not take revenge.”

Disney recently re-released the original teaser trailer for the film that was seen in theaters. You can watch it here.

Budget:$32.5 million
Box Office:$475.1 million

'Game Of Thrones' Actor Will Reportedly Play Aquaman In The 'Batman V Superman' Movie

Add another "Justice League" character to the "Batman V Superman" movie.

Hitfix is reporting Aquaman will indeed appear in the upcoming sequel.

No, he won't be played by Matt Damon.

Though he has denied it in the past, former "Game of Thrones" actor Jason Momoa will reportedly play the King of the Seven Seas.

Momoa played Khal Drogo on the HBO series.jason mamoa game of thrones

Along with Batman and Superman, Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg), and Cyborg (Ray Fisher) are also set to join the film.

Cyborg and Wonder Woman's roles are rumored to be minor to lay the foundations for the upcoming "Justice League" movie reportedly set for 2017

Similarly, Hitfix says Aquaman's role will be brief and limited.

"What we're hearing is that he [Aquaman] is not pleased about the World Engine and what it did to the Indian Ocean."

This makes a lot of sense.

One thing that didn't sit well with a lot of "Man of Steel" viewers was all of the raw, unnecessary destruction Superman caused.

Not only did he tear apart Metropolis, endangering the lives of many citizens, eagle-eyed viewers know he did damage to LexCorp and Wayne Enterprises properties. He also saved people from an exploding oil rig, who's CEO has ties to Aquaman.

Lex Luthor, Batman, and Aquaman may all have a few bones of their own to pick with him.

"Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" is set for a May 6, 2016 release.

Jon Stewart Perfectly Mocks Liberals Who Deny Science

0

Jenny McCarthy

Ignorance isn't limited by political boundaries.

While some anti-science conservatives have been known to deny the facts of climate change, Jon Stewart had another target in mind on a recent show: the generally liberal, upper-middle-class, highly educated parents who make bogus claims about vaccines being dangerous — and put lives at risk by doing so.

Last week on the Daily Show, correspondent Samantha Bee spoke with Dr. Paul Offit, the director of the Vaccine Education Center at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, who explained that we're seeing a resurgence of diseases like measles, mumps, and rubella in coastal progressive enclaves like California, Oregon, and New York. In places like this, thousands of parents are choosing not to vaccinate their children, against all scientific evidence.

"It's happening in my community?" asks Bee. "People who.... juice?"

Exactly.

Bee also talks with lifestyle blogger and anti-vaxxer Sarah Pope, who gives some classic responses of those who straight-up deny scientific facts based on nothing but their own beliefs.

"You can line up the doctors from here to down the block refuting me, and I'm not going to change my mind," she said.

Pope says she thinks that the historic decline in diseases like measles and polio couldn't have been due to vaccines, and instead must have been caused by some other factor, like getting horses off the streets.

Here's a chart that shows why she's wrong:

Vaccine efficacy chart

"The good news about vaccines," says Offit, "is that they're not a belief system. They're an evidence-based system."

Bee went on a mission to see how misinformation about vaccines spreads, from bloggers like Pope to liberal enclaves to celebrities like Jenny McCarthy, who, despite their dangerous and wrong anti-vaxxer beliefs, are given space on national television.

sam bee chases vaccine denial

Of course, once people decide they're going to believe something no matter what the evidence says, it's hard to change their mind. On her blog, Pope refers to Offit as Dr. Paul "Awful" and claims vaccines are "full of toxins."

Unfortunately, if these science deniers can't be convinced any other way, there's one thing that might get the truth across to them. As Dr. Offit says, "I think, sadly, the only way that this gets better is when we start to see more and more outbreaks."

Measles cases, by the way, are currently at an 18 year high.

"So there is a cure for science denial," says Bee. "Once Florida is underwater and we all have polio, it'll be better."

the cure for deniers

Let's hope it doesn't come to that.

When it was first announced, Dean Kamen's two-wheeled Segway scooter was supposedly going to change everything, from how we went to the store to buy milk to how our very cities were constructed.

The reality turned out to be something less than that — Segways now mostly seem like a fun toy for eccentrics with some cash to spend — but Kamen continues to work on solving a number of difficult problems, long after the Segway spotlight has faded.

Casey Kasem Quit One Of The Most Popular Cartoons Of All Time Because Of A Burger King Commercial

Casey KasemCasey Kasem passed away Sunday at the age of 82 after a number of health issues.

What many people don't know is that health and nutrition were a major part of the pop icon's life and it had a huge impact on his work.

Kasem wasn't just a radio DJ. He was also a popular voice actor. Many of us growing up remember the "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!" cartoons very well. From 1969 to 1995 Kasem provided the famous voice of Shaggy, Scooby's teen owner who helped solve all those crimes.

Shaggy's character had been known throughout the years for eating everything in sight with his trusty companion and pet, Scooby. A fact that Kasem wasn't too jazzed about. He was a hardcore vegan and an outspoken advocate for the cause.

In 1995, he was asked to portray Shaggy in a Burger King commercial. Kasem was not impressed. Refusing to promote a brand that sold hamburgers, he not only wouldn't do the commercial, but he walked out on the show entirely and a role he'd been playing for decades.

He was also not pleased that the show's creators wouldn't make the Shaggy character a vegan. In 2002, the show's producers finally came around and Kasem jumped back on board.

Here's a YouTube clip of Kasem on Jerry Lewis' MDA telethon doing his Shaggy voice in front of a live audience:

According to a statement from Kasem's PR, the disc jockey passed away at 3:23 a.m.

For the past two weeks, Kasem was hospitalized at St. Anthony's Hospital in Gig Harbor, Washington following a family feud between Kasem's wife, Jean, and three children from his first marriage.

According to Kasem's children, Kasem suffered from Lewy body disease, a form of dementia.

For more than four decades, Kasem lent his voice talents to the radio hosting music countdown shows.

His most popular show, "American Top 40," has been around since 1970. Ryan Seacrest took over hosting duties in 2004.

Kasem also provided the voice for Shaggy in the "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!" cartoons.

A memorial service will be held Friday.

How Fox News Anchor Megyn Kelly Landed Her First TV Job After 10 Years As A Lawyer

0

Megyn Kelly

Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly, 43, may have been the only woman in media to make Time magazine's list of the 100 Most Influential People In The World and she may be dominating the ratings, but it wasn't an easy road getting there.

Kelly worked as a lawyer for 10 years before even making the huge career change to TV. Kelly practiced law as a corporate litigator at Jones Day for nine years and was an associate in the Chicago office of the law firm Bickel & Brewer LLP.

"I started off as a lawyer for almost a decade before I decided I was completely burned out," Kelly told Business Insider at Time magazine's gala, where she was honored. "When choosing a new profession, I just said to myself: 'What can I do that would utilize some of these skills, but that I would enjoy a little more and will also be fun and still intellectually stimulating?' And this was an obvious choice."

"So I just called up [Fox News chairmain] Roger Ailes, asked for a job on the air, and he said 'Here ya go,'" Kelly joked.

In reality, Kelly had to start from square one.

"I cold-called a bunch of people and then Bill Lord of WJLA, the ABC affiliate in Washington, D.C., was the poor sucker who put me on the air when I stunk up the joint, but he gave me my first break," Kelly explains. "I stunk at first, but got better and better, thanks to him. And also thanks to Roger Ailes, who ultimately put me on the air every day, multiple times a day for a couple of years, until I got better."

Brit Hume, longtime ABC News correspondent and retired chief White House correspondent, was Kelly's first mentor and the man responsible for getting her audition tape to Ailes in the first place.

Hume recalled to Time:

Brit Hume Megyn Kelly

"Ten years ago, my wife Kim, then Fox News’ Washington bureau chief, walked into my office carrying a videocassette. 'You have got to see this,' Kim said. It was the audition tape of a local TV reporter then named Megyn Kendall. She was a lawyer and new to the business, but her tape displayed as full a set of the qualities of a network correspondent as I had ever seen: great looks, strong voice, authoritative yet cheerful presence and obvious intelligence. In other words, limitless potential.

But there was a problem: we had no openings, which was quickly pointed out to me when I enthused about her during a phone call with Fox News chair Roger Ailes and other executives. 'Please,' I asked Roger, 'just look at the tape.' I suspected he would see what I had seen. He did, and an opening was created. From the start, Megyn gave us insightful Supreme Court coverage, and she was among the first to spot flaws in the false rape charges against the Duke lacrosse players. She was too good to last as a mere correspondent, and she didn’t. The rest, as they say, is history."

In addition to Brit and Kim Hume, Kelly credits Ailes for helping her become the powerhouse she is today.

Roger Ailes

"My boss, Roger Ailes, has been a huge inspiration," Kelly told Business Insider. "People who don't like Fox always wonder whether there's been some editorial imprint by Roger, but I can tell you in the 10 years I've been there, that has never been the case. However, he has many times given me advice on how to connect with an audience, how to be my real self, how to tear down the wall between myself and the viewer, and that's helped me."

Kelly added: "Television is just like typing — there's no way to get better without doing it a lot, over and over."

How Peter Dinklage Became The Beloved 'Game Of Thrones' Bad Boy

game of thrones tyrion trial by combat"A Lannister always pays his debts."

Actor Peter Dinklage, however, has few debts to pay.

The Jersey-born actor essentially bootstrapped his career, living as a self-described starving artist for years before reaching his "Game of Thrones" success.

Now appearing as the brilliant villain in "X-Men: Days of Future Past," Dinklage ranks among Hollywood's most-wanted actors — and just happens to be a dwarf.

See his meteoric rise to fame.

Peter Dinklage was born to a Morristown, New Jersey, couple in the summer of '69. He said his childhood was "uneventful" — his father sold insurance, and his mother taught music at an elementary school.

His parents never treated him like he was special, Dinklage says, despite being the only dwarf in his family. The chance of being born with achondroplasia, a genetic disorder that causes abnormalities in bone formation, is 1 in 25,000.

The Dinklages didn't even have a TV set in the house — or so he thought. In his teens, Peter discovered his parents watching a black-and-white TV they had purchased and hid in the bedroom closet. "It was 'Three's Company' from then on out," he says.

'22 Jump Street' Had A Huge Weekend At The Box Office

"22 Jump Street" ruled the box office this weekend.

The sequel, reuniting Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, brought in a huge $60 million opening weekend, matching analyst estimates.

That marks the second largest opening for an R-rated movie.

2011's "The Hangover Part II" holds that record with $85.9 million.

The first movie, released in 2012, made $36.3 million opening weekend and went on to earn $201.6 million worldwide.

"22 Jump Street" marks the fourth successful film for directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller who had a big break-out hit with "The LEGO Movie" earlier this year.

The other big movie out this weekend, DreamWorks Animation's "How to Train Your Dragon 2" also had a big weekend debuting to $50 million.

The number wasn't as big as estimates predicted, but the animated picture should continue to perform well for the studio.

'Game Of Thrones' Finale Leaves Out A Huge Storyline From The Books

Warning: There are spoilers ahead.

Sunday night's "Game of Thrones" finale was probably one of the most jam-packed episodes we've seen in a while focusing on multiple story arcs to tie up a lot of loose ends from season 4.

However, there's one very big loose end the series has yet to address.

Final warning before huge spoilers.

While the ending shots of season 4 showed Arya Stark sailing away on a ship, many diehard fans of the book thought they may see the return of a favorite character teased.

In season 3, Catelyn Stark was murdered alongside her son Robb and his pregnant wife.catelyn stark game of thrones

Her body then gets tossed into a river after she's killed.

Readers of the book know that three days later Lady Stark gets resurrected and is brought back as Lady Stoneheart.

She can't speak (her throat is visibly damaged from getting slashed), she's covered in scratches, and a lot of her hair is gone. She's pretty grotesque.

But as much of a Frankenstein character Stoneheart may appear, she's a completely different character out to seek revenge on everyone who betrayed both her and her son.

For anyone who may have been disappointed, actress Michelle Fairley, who plays Catelyn, was not signed on for season 4 of "Game of Thrones."

Fairley has actually been appearing on the new "24: Live Another Day" mini-series.

Some fans may have expected a hint at Lady Stoneheart after "Game of Thrones" actress Lena Headey recently posted a photo of a series of rocks on Instagram in the shape of a heart with the caption, "My stone heart."

Headey previously gave another hint on Instagram about an upcoming plot point.

When Sunday's episode aired, it even looked as if fans might get the scene.

In the books, Brienne of Tarth comes across the resurrected Lady Stark after fighting a man posing as The Hound.

"Game of Thrones" showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss threw us a curveball by having Brienne fight the actual Hound.

So where's Lady Stoneheart?

Don't worry fans. We're sure it's coming. And, we're sure that when it does happen (not if) that it will be awesome and worth the wait.

World's Largest Video Game Collection

The world's largest collection of video games has sold for $750,250.

The collection has over 11,000 unique video games, and is officially recognized by Guinness Book of World Records. The official certificate is included, along with a lifetime subscription to Retro Magazine.

The massive hoard of games took more than three decades to stockpile, and over a quarter of the games (about 2,600) are factory sealed.

There were over 56 bids at gaming auction site, Game Gavel, including from the creator of the Oculus Rift, Palmer Luckey. Luckey bid twice, once at $50,000 and again for $90,001, though the auction quickly became a bidding war between two others. Luckey already has the world's largest collection of head-mounted displays, which he amassed as he tinkered to create his own virtual reality headset.

You can check out the full details of the concluded auction here.

There Are Some Unexpectedly Funny Controls In New Game 'Destiny'

Sony unleashed a first look at its new game "Destiny" over the weekend.

The new game from Bungie, the creators of “Halo,” isn’t out until September; however, the creators offered a sampling to a small group of PlayStation 4 users.

I took it for a spin this weekend, and enjoyed it a lot.

Since you kind of get thrown right into a large open-world map, one of the first things you need to do is familiarize yourself with the game controls.Destiny controls PS4

Most of them are intuitive. “X” is for jump, “R2” lets you fire a weapon, and the L3/R3 sticks control movement and your ability to look around.

Then there’s the D-pad. Usually, this is a second option for movement in the game. That isn’t the case here. The Bungie team is having a bit of fun with the controls. controls destiny

Yes, you read those right. Wave. Dance. Sit. Point.

Press “up” and your character will offer a friendly wave.Destiny wave

You have the option to play as a few different characters. This one, called a "Hunter," waves with a bow.Destiny bow

Tap “down” and you’re resting up, sitting on the ground.Destiny sitting

Hit “left” and you’re pointing at other players in the game. Destiny Point

And, then there’s our favorite. Pressing “right” makes your character break out in dance.

We’re not sure if this is solely for the Alpha and Beta trials of the game or whether this will be in the game come September. Either way it’s great and highly entertaining.

Beats Music Gets An Exclusive Song Featuring Jay-Z Before Spotify Does (AAPL)

Beats Music released a remix of "Jungle" featuring Jay-Z Monday morning, which will be exclusively available on the streaming music service for the next week.

On Sunday night, Beats Electronics cofounder Dr. Dre teased out the announcement by sending out a vague tweet and tagging Jay-Z.

Two weeks ago Beats Electronics dropped a cinematic, five-minute ad for the World Cup. Featuring some of the most predominant athletes in the world, the video now has 10.4 million views. Set to the track "The Jungle" by X Ambassadors and Jamie N Commons, the video propelled the song to number 4 on the iTunes charts.

Beats Music competitor Spotify recently announced it had amassed 10 million paid subscribers. Last month at the Code Conference, Jimmy Iovine announced Beats Music had a modest 250,000 subscribers. But what Beats Music lacks in numbers, it can make up for in influence and connections within the music industry. And being able to call in Jay-Z, arguably one of the most prominent names in hip-hop, is no small feat.

Exclusive music content may not be enough to completely change the game for upcoming music streaming services, but it could lure some Spotify users to Beats Music if deals like this become common.

Apple bought Beats Electronics for $3 billion at the end of May, making it Apple's largest acquisition ever. The purchase was made mostly for Beats Music's streaming service, which curates playlists for you depending on your mood and what you're doing. At last month's Code Conference, Apple exec Eddy Cue and Iovine cited iTunes' stalled growth of sales and Apple's own mediocre earbuds as factors contributing to the Beats acquisition.
