'60 Minutes' Used Fake Engine Sounds For Its Story On The All-Electric Tesla Model S

2013 tesla model s

CBS's recently maligned "60 Minutes" is again mired in controversy.

Over the weekend, the program aired a much anticipated interview with Tesla Motors and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk.

During the feature, attentive viewers noticed something truly odd, less than a minute in.

CBS dubbed audio of a high-revving gas engine changing gears through a conventional gearbox over footage of the all-electric Model S.

But the Model S emits virtually no sound at all, and doesn't shift gears: It's powered by an AC induction motor moving power through a single-speed fixed gear transmission. What little noise the car does make sounds more akin to that of a gentle breeze and would never be as harsh as an internal combustion engine.

According to the Associated Press, CBS has admitted to an "audio error" made by an editor. CBS spokesperson Kevin Tedesco told the AP the erroneous audio has been edited out of the online edition of the interview.

This is just the latest brush with controversy for the CBS's signature news program. Last year, "60 Minutes" was rocked by scandal after it aired an ill-informed bombshell report on the 2012 attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi, Libya. The scandal triggered a public apology from the network and a leave of absence for the show's chief foreign affairs correspondent Lara Logan. Later in the year, the show was again criticized for its reporting after it was accused of airing a one-sided report on the NSA.

Here's the "60 Minutes" report on Elon Musk, still using the erroneous sound:

14 Famous Movies That Originally Had Different Endings

0
0

Pretty Woman julia roberts richard gere

Whether because of meddling producers, disagreeable test audiences, or apprehensive directors with second thoughts, many movies get tweaked before we ever get a chance to see them, especially in the final act.

In fact, some of our favorite Hollywood endings could have gone in very different directions if they had followed their original trajectories.

In an alternate universe, this is how some of your favorite movies would end.

[Spoilers ahead, obviously.]

14 movie ending do-overs »

"Pineapple Express" (2008)

How it ends: Seth Rogen and James Franco survive the big shootout and recall the whole thing over breakfast.

How it was supposed to end: Rogen and Franco stay in the warehouse to get high and end up getting shot by a "bad guy" they forgot about.

"I Am Legend" (2007)

How it ends: Will Smith's Neville blows himself and a bunch of Darkseekers up to protect his new friends and the antidote.

How it was supposed to end: Neville discovers the Darkseekers are more than just murderous zombies. They are capable of love and compassion and just want to rescue one of their own who has become Neville's test subject. Test audiences were left unsatisfied with the humanization of the "bad guys" so they went with the "blow everything up" ending.

"The Break-Up" (2006)

How it ends: With Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Aniston randomly meeting on the street months after breaking up.

How it was supposed to end: Originally, they were just going to split and be done with it, but the movie happened to coincide with Aniston's real-life breakup with Brad Pitt after he left her for Angelina Jolie. Producers didn't want her character to get jilted on the big screen too, so they re-shot the ending to include a more ambiguous finale that suggested there was hope for reconciliation.

Amazon's First Ad For The Fire TV Features Gary Busey... And It's Super Weird (AMZN)

Chinese Actor Shatters Social Media Records After Apologizing For Cheating On Wife

Wen Zhang Ma yili

Chinese actor Wen Zhang is as famous for his movies as he is his family-man image.

Zhang, 29, has been married to Chinese actress Yili Ma, 37, since 2008. The couple have a daughter together and Ma is currently pregnant with their second child.

But Zhang's reputation as a faithful husband was shattered Monday as he took to Weibo  essentially the Twitter of China — to admit, and apologize, for having an affair with Chinese actress Yao Di, his co-star on popular Chinese TV show "Naked Marriage."

"I have brought this upon myself. A mistake is a mistake. This has nothing to do with anyone else," Wen wrote, as translated by The Hollywood Reporter. "Today, I am willing to accept all the consequences. I've let down Ma Yili and our children. My mistake does not deserve to be forgiven, and it will be difficult for me to make amends for all the harm I've caused. But I want to do it. I have to do it. This is what I'll do for the rest of my life."

Within 10 hours, the post had attracted over 2.5 million comments and was retweeted more than 1 million times  both new records for Weibo, according to THR.

To put that into perspective, Ellen DeGeneres' star-studded Oscar selfie has currently been "favorited" nearly 2 million times and retweeted nearly 3.5 million times. Obama's "Four More Years" tweet, which held the previous record, has just 296,000 "favorites" and 780,000 retweets.

Zhang's wife replied on Weibo to her husband's viral post by simply stating, "Being in love is easy, being married is not. It is to be cherished."

Her comment has garnered more than 650,000 retweets and nearly a million comments.

The 'Captain America' Sequel Is One Of The Best Marvel Movies Ever Made

0
0

chris evans captain america 2

I was never a huge fan of the first "Captain America" film. It always felt like a necessary final stop on the "Avengers" train before assembling the entire crew on screen. The giant musical number in the middle didn't help.

Out of all the Marvel movies released up to that point, it was probably the one I liked the least. (It's also the one that made the least money, excluding the two previous Hulk films.)

If you're hesitant about seeing the sequel, don't be. It's pretty awesome and dare I say one of the best Marvel movies made.

Business Insider attended a screening of "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" Monday evening and it's an absolute thrill ride that can easily keep up with Iron Man and Thor.

Was it better than "The Avengers"?

It’s difficult to top a billion dollar movie with so much star power — and with the absence of Tony Stark — but it comes pretty darn close.

Chris Evans returns (noticeably a bit more fit) as the First Avenger Steve Rogers. Like "Iron Man 3" and "Thor: The Dark World," the sequel shows how the Captain is coping after the events of "The Avengers" and Rogers seems to be adjusting better than the other superheroes.

captain america winter soldier scarlett johanssonHe's working with S.H.I.E.L.D and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and lives in Washington, D.C. His biggest problems are catching up with decades worth of pop culture and news and finding a girlfriend.

Don't worry, unlike the first film, we're not subjected to any sing-songy montages.

Rather it's action packed from beginning to end *spoilers* following a corrupt S.H.I.E.L.D. agency overrun by Hydra (an organization that wants to rule the world) that's wants to cleanse the world of millions of people. *spoilers*

Want fight sequences, guns firing, car crashes, and explosions? You got them. (For parents planning to take their kids, it's probably the least kid-friendly of all the Marvel movies.)

captain america 2 explosionbucky the winter soldier captain america

Captain America steps up his game ten-fold in the sequel whether he's taking out an entire crew aboard a ship in the Indian Ocean or escaping pursurers from S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters. The elevator scene that’s been heavily teased in trailers is even better on screen as part of a much longer fight sequence.

the winter soldier captain americacaptain america the winter soldier

There's one more scene when Rogers confronts the Winter Soldier that really stands out. When his shield gets blocked you could literally feel the reverberation of the two forces colliding from our theater seats. captain america the winter soldier

Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury delivers one of the most heart-pounding moments of the film in a crazy car chase. Normally, popping up throughout the Marvel universe to unite the Avengers team and dish out assignments, the S.H.I.E.L.D. director never gets his hands dirty fighting the bad guys so seeing him get his own time on screen was a great surprise.

Johansson also has a much larger role as Black Widow. That makes sense since Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige hinted the character may eventually receive her own film. Widow shines showing that Rogers isn't the only one who can take down a group of villains and — at times — serves as a brief comic relief, but ultimately fills the need for a superheroine for girls to identify with.

Kids are going to want an action figure of The Falcon (Anthony Mackie) after watching him dive off buildings and soar through the skies.falcon captain america 2

Marvel fanboys will be delighted with Stan Lee's appearance in the film's final leg while "Community" fans will recognize actor Danny Pudi in a brief cameo.

The Winter Soldier — who the film revolves around — is *spoiler* not out right villainous. If you're a fan of the comics, you probably already know his real identity. Rather, he's been brain-washed and we're supposed to empathize with him.

This is one thing you need to credit Marvel and Disney for. They've been able to bring villains to the big screen who have in-depth character stories and aren't just your typical bad guy. (Look no further than Loki.)

If you've seen Disney's box-office juggernaut "Frozen," there's a scene near the end of "Captain America 2" that parallels the climactic moment in the animated film. No, no one gets "frozen" and aren't any broken hearts, but while "Frozen" places emphasis on the importance of family, "Captain America 2" reinforces the strong bond between friends. *spoiler*

My main issue with "The Winter Soldier" is one thing that always bothers me while watching any standalone Marvel movie since "The Avengers" — and that I imagine may bother other moviegoers. When there's a catastrophic event occurring none of the superheroes think to call up one of their new friends. Sure, the incidents in "Iron Man 3" and "Thor 2" are (slightly) more isolated; however, the danger in "Captain America 2" is pretty worldly. There are plenty of times Iron Man gets name dropped throughout the film and there's even a scene with someone exiting Stark Industries, but no one ever suggests consulting him.

avengersObviously, all of the Avengers cannot appear in every movie, but it's the one item that is repeatedly never addressed that slightly affects the fluidity of the entire series. At this point, any name drops become more of a tease than a nod to the larger Marvel universe.

Ultimately, “The Winter Soldier” is one of the most believable Marvel movies (as believable as a superhero movie is going to get). In “Iron Man 3” you get self-destructing humans injected with a top-secret serum and in “Thor 2” we follow an alien villain who wants to make the world dark for questionably unknown reasons.  Instead, we're following the politics of a corrupt secret agency.

Unlike the first the film which clearly sets the wheels in motion for "The Avengers" sequel "The Winter Soldier" is a great standalone that should easily deliver one of the top-opening weekends for the month of April.

"Captain America: The Winter Soldier" is in theaters Friday.

Fired Executive Accuses Netflix And Amazon Of ‘Cutthroat And Unlawful Campaign' To Blacklist Him In Million-Dollar Lawsuit

1Netflix

A former Netflix executive has filed a $1 million lawsuit claiming the company engaged in a vicious campaign to get him fired from his new job at Amazon by falsely accusing him of stealing trade secrets.

Netflix's former director of content acquisition, Jerry Kowal, filed the lawsuit, which also names Amazon as a defendant. That suit says he left for a new job on Amazon's digital video team in June 2013 after realizing Netflix had a "toxic culture." On his way out the door, Kowal claims, Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos told him he would "regret going to Amazon."

Indeed, Netflix began its "retaliatory campaign" against Kowal just a week after he started working for Amazon, according to the complaint, which was posted online by The Hollywood Reporter. In front of 200 Netflix employees and board members, Sarandos and Netflix CEO Reed Hastings allegedly said the company was investigating Kowal for using stolen trade secrets to compete against his former employer.

Kowal says Amazon fired him even though he was ultimately cleared of any trade theft. According to the complaint, Amazon said it had a "strict liability" policy that mandated his termination. The complaint implies the two tech giants were conspiring against him:

DavidThe complaint does not create a very nice picture of the corporate culture at Netflix. From the complaint:

Amazon Announced Its First Video Game And It Looks Pretty Awesome

sev zero amazon game

Earlier today, Amazon announced a new set-top box called Fire TV that's available for $99.

In addition to letting users stream online services like Netflix and Hulu, Amazon is offering games for play.

Users will be able to play mobile games on their TVs in addition to exclusive games created by Amazon Game Studios. The biggest news was the announcement of its first game, a sci-fi tower defense shooter, “Sev Zero.”

Here's the game synopsis from Amazon:

"Earth is threatened by an alien species, the Ne’ahtu. Early in the 22nd century, the Ne’ahtu infected Earth’s energy grid with a computer virus that disabled the planet’s defenses. Before the Ne’ahtu could strike, computer prodigy Amy Ramanujan neutralized the alien computer virus and saved the planet. Now, the Ne’ahtu are back and Dr. Ramanujan is trying to prevent them from another all-out invasion of Earth. Switching between towers (to launch various missiles and grenades) and face-to-face combat (to attack with machine guns), the player’s mission is to join Dr. Ramanujan and defend Earth from the Ne’ahtu.

In Sev Zero, players can jump between environments—start in tower defense mode to build out towers and assess the surroundings, and then beam down to shooter mode for face-to-face combat against the Ne’ahtu. Players can also bring friends and family into the action with the Sev Zero companion tablet app, Sev Zero: Air Support. With this multi-player, multi-screen experience, players help each other thwart the enemies—one player is in Air Support mode initiating air strikes from their tablet while the other player is in face-to-face combat mode."

According to Amazon, the game is the first in a series of titles being built exclusively for the company.

"Sev Zero" is available for $6.99 — much more affordable than any console games which usually retail for around $49.99-$59.99. You need one of Amazon’s $39.99 game controllers to play.

Though Amazon says its not trying to compete with Sony's PS4 and Microsoft's Xbox One the game strikes us as similar to console hits "Mass Effect" and "Halo."

Amazon also reportedly took a big dig at Microsoft during its Fire TV presentation.

Check out the trailer below:

Here are a few screenshots from the game.

Nicole Kidman Is Barely Recognizable In This Heavily Photoshopped Jimmy Choo Ad

Nicole Kidman

Jimmy Choo's latest print ad featuring Nicole Kidman bears the actress' name in the bottom left-hand corner. That's a good thing, because people might otherwise have trouble realizing it's her.

For its pre-fall 2014 campaign, the shoe designer has made the 46-year-old leading lady so pale and thin that she actually looks unhealthy. That's to say nothing of the bizarre, unnatural-looking nose Jimmy Choo Photoshopped onto her.

Here's a photo of Kidman taken March 25 at a screening of her new movie, "The Railway Man":

And here's the Jimmy Choo ad:Nicole Kidman

The campaign is Kidman's second for Jimmy Choo and marks a sharp departure from the first shoot, which played up, rather than bleached, her red hair.

The new campaign also includes an artsy video of Kidman, dressed in the same outfit as the print ad, going out to meet a guy riding a motorcycle in a mountainous desert.

BILL MAHER: The People Giving Money To This GOP Candidate Are 'Idiots'

0

Bill Maher

Bill Maher, the stand-up comedian and host of HBO's "Real Time," said it was "pathetic" for Republican New York City Congressman Michael Grimm to attempt to use his show in a fundraising pitch.

"It’s pathetic how easy it is to push these peoples' buttons. This guy says 'Bill Maher doesn't like me' and idiots send him money?" Maher said in an email to Business Insider.

The tiff got rolling in January, when Maher announced he was seeking nominations for the "worst" member of Congress and would work to unseat the winner. Grimm was one of the first two nominees Maher announced on his show last week in his "Flip a District" campaign.

"He’s a guy who thrust himself into the running this year by threatening to throw a reporter off the balcony of the Capitol," Maher told his viewers last week in a reference to one of Grimm's more memorable moments from earlier this year. "He seems to be all of Staten Island distilled in one man and there is a lot of enthusiasm out there for making him go away."

Grimm responded with an email to supporters entitled "The Liberals Are Coming" wherein he said Maher's insults showed why he needs donations.

"Like Bill Maher, the DCCC and Mayor de Blasio (aka the most progressive Mayor of New York City has ever seen) want this seat because it would make their lives much easier – let’s face it, I am the only one standing between them and a liberal take over of NYC," Grimm wrote in the email.

How Microsoft Is Positioning The Xbox To Take On Amazon, Roku And The Apple TV

0
0

build 2014 redsafi

Microsoft is latching onto its one reliably cool brand, Xbox, to gain a foothold in the next emerging arena in tech: TV.

Since 2001, the Xbox has been gaining a foothold in the living room thanks to millions of hard-core gamers attracted to series like "Halo" and "Call of Duty."

The first Xbox console sold about 24 million units and introduced console gamers to online gaming.

The Xbox 360 has sold about 80 million units since its release in 2005. It's still available in stores, and new games are still being made for it.

The Xbox 360 is Microsoft's short-term response to the Apple TV, Amazon and others.

Since the introduction of Netflix in 2008, Microsoft has brought more than 60 services to the Xbox 360, including Amazon, Comcast's Xfinity, and Hulu. That's actually more than what's available on either the Apple TV or Amazon's Fire TV — a Piper Jaffray report released today notes that Apple offers content from 31 providers, whereas Amazon works with 41.

Microsoft has an Xbox 360 user base numbering in the tens of millions. Many of them pay subscriptions for Xbox Live, which lets them play with other gamers around the world and access content through the aforementioned services. These subscriptions cost $60 per year.

With 3.5 million units sold in Microsoft's most recent quarter, the Xbox 360 is holding its own in the living room while Microsoft ramps up the Xbox One.

The Xbox One is Microsoft's long-term play.

Sales of the Xbox One weren't mindblowing in February — they sold about 258,000 units — but the release of "Titanfall" last month is expected to have brought a big boost to the console. The few sales figures available suggest that total unit sales  were just a hair over 4 million between November and the end of February.

There were a number of startups at Microsoft's Build conference today that make Windows and Xbox apps for video-streaming services. One developer Business Insider spoke to said that there's currently a wait to get apps approved on the Xbox One because Microsoft has been slow to approve new services in order to ensure quality.

Microsoft is hoping that a wide variety of video apps, the Kinect interface, and Windows PC apps will convince non-gamers to buy into the ~$449 Xbox One experience for their living room instead of a $99 Apple TV. The stakes are high when you're pushing the premium option — in this case, Microsoft has to prove that what it is offering is better than just a smart TV or set-top box. For now, there can't be bad apps on the Xbox One.

Meanwhile, it continues to serve as a platform for blockbuster game titles like "Grand Theft Auto." While Amazon is also offering games on the Fire TV, the Xbox One can output far more realistic, immersive graphics than anything Amazon or Apple's hardware could produce, a deal breaker for drawing in big-budget titles.

The Huge 'Animal House' Blunder That Cost Donald Sutherland Millions

0
0

Animal House

"National Lampoon's Animal House" is one of the greatest comedies of all time. Yet in 1978, not even one of its stars believed in the potential of a small comedy about toga parties.

That is why when it came down to Donald Sutherland taking a fee of either 2% of the film's gross or $35,000, Sutherland took the latter.

Here's how that "Animal House" blunder ended up costing him millions.

"Fat, Drunk, And Stupid Is No Way To Make A Movie, Son"

“Everybody is drunk, or high, or getting laid. I’d never make this movie.”

According to Matty Simmons' "Fat, Drunk, and Stupid: The Inside Story Behind the Making of Animal House," these are the words of Universal Studios boss Ned Tanen after he read the first outline of "Animal House."

It wasn't until the production promised Tanen that they could make the film for $3 million that Universal signed on. However, the studio still wanted a star to sell the movie to audiences.

For Universal, "Saturday Night Live" stand-out John Belushi wasn't enough, so director John Landis went to an old friend, Donald Sutherland (who was a huge star in 1978), and asked him for a favor. A hesitant Sutherland ultimately agreed to be in the film, but only after Landis told him that all his scenes could be done in a day.

Seemingly, both the studio and the comedy now had its "star." Yet, there was still the important matter of just how much Sutherland would get paid for the one day on set.

"I Just Want The Money"

Donald Sutherland Animal House professorAccording to Simmons, the studio wanted a star but "wouldn't pay for a star." This then led to a negotiation that Sutherland would regret for years to come.

"[Sutherland] first asked for $250,000 and, in Landis's words, 'The studio said, 'Get the f--- outta here!'" Simmons wrote.

Universal then countered Sutherland's offer with a simple $20,000 for a day's work plus points on the film.

The problem was that Sutherland wanted nothing to do with points on the film, and would famously tell Landis:

"I can't take that offer. I just want the money. I don't want any points in the movie."

Universal eventually offered a fee of $35,000 with no points for a day plus one  in Hollywood speak, meaning technically two days of work because you can't hire an actor for just one day in case they go over time. Sutherland would happily accept and would play the film's pot-smoking professor, Dave Jennings.

Then on July 28, 1978, Sutherland and the rest of the world got to see the finished product when "Animal House" hit theaters, and comedy would never be the same.

A Box Office Animal

Donald Sutherland"Animal House" would go on to become one of the most successful comedies of all time, pulling in $141,600,000 at the box office on the $3 million production budget Universal was initially promised.

Adjusted for inflation, the film has made $500,083,700, making it the 58th highest-grossing film of all time, and the 9th highest R-rated movie ever.

All of which Sutherland could have had a stake in back in 1978.

According to an Interview with the Opie and Anthony radio show, Sutherland would go on to say that the number of points he was offered was 2%.

When asked, "Do you know what would 2% roughly have translated into?" Sutherland smirked and responded, "I don't want to know."

Today, that 2% would have made him $2.8 million, or upward of $10 million after inflation.

Whisper Is Supposedly Moving Into Anjelica Huston's $11 Million Venice 'Fortress'

anjelica huston house

After sitting for more than three years on the market, the Venice, Calif., home of actress Anjelica Huston has finally sold, Curbed LA reported.

But the fortress-like home, which was originally listed for $18 million, and reportedly sold for $11.15 million, won't be housing another Hollywood celebrity.

Instead, it's been reported that the unnamed buyer will rent the space to Whisper, a startup that recently put its Santa Monica headquarters up for rent.

Yesterday, a source confirmed the move to Valleywag

The house itself has an interesting past. Late last year, Megan Ellison was in escrow to purchase it, and in 2012 there were even talks of turning it into a "gourmet bathing club."

The home certainly commands your attention.

It's located at one of the busiest intersections in Venice and has some great views of the notoriously quirky beach community.

At first glance, the interior design seems just as industrial as the exterior.

Ridley Scott Is Making A 'Halo' Digital Project For Microsoft

masterchief halo new game 2014

Microsoft is adding some big names to work on its exclusive entertainment projects.

"Alien" director Ridley Scott will be working on a "Halo" digital feature project for Xbox Entertainment Studios.

Sergio Mimica-Gezzan ("Battlestar Galactica," "Heroes") will direct the feature while Scott will serve as an executive producer.

The Wrap first reported the newsWe confirmed the announcement with a Microsoft spokesperson.

343 Industries announced the news along with Xbox Entertainment Studios, and Scott Free Production.

Last May, Microsoft announced Steven Spielberg will executive produce a live-action television series based on the popular "Halo" video game franchise.

Microsoft confirmed to Business Insider the digital feature project is separate from the upcoming TV series which is still on track.

It's unclear how the series will differentiate from the live-action TV series; however, The Wrap reports the the story will be set in the 26th century following a super soldier that will be in similar style to Machinima's "Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn" series.

That series led up to the "Halo 4" game release. It's possible Microsoft is doing the same ahead of the "Halo 5" launch which currently doesn't have an official release date.

The Wrap reports the live-action project will debut before the end of the year.

More details are expected to be announced at this year's E3 (Entertainment Electronic Expo) in June.

Two Reasons Why Hollywood Can't Kill 'The Netflix For Pirated Movies'

0
0

Popcorn Time

It looks like Popcorn Time's official website has returned.

The Windows, Mac, and Linux app that lets you stream pirated movies from the comfort of your own home is back in a website that looks similar to the first version. If you download the program, it works flawlessly and looks identical to the first interface.

Here's why this return should terrify Hollywood.

Its an open sourced project

After experiencing a tumultuous rise and fall when it launched last month, the anonymous team of developers wrote they had to take the program down. Within a few days, another group of ambitious coders snatched the code from web hosting service Github and quickly created a new site called Time 4 Popcorn.

TechCrunch writes that the original code has been removed from Github. However, several forked versions exist out in the web. There's nothing stopping another collective of developers from replicating the service and making their own site.

Popcorn Time will always attract an audience

Popcorn Time provides instant demand for viewers. You can instantly stream a movie in varying quality to your computer. The title could still currently be in theaters. Sites like Netflix and Amazon Prime have to follow a waiting period before they can add a new title to its massive library of content.

The combination of comfort and immediate access to new movies would certainly be enticing for people. Ticket prices are slowly climbing and it would be easier for people to stream the latest oscar nominated movie without needing to venture over to the closest theater.

Hollywood will have a hard time shutting this down

Movie studios can't crack down on every example of privacy. Hollywood can put pressure on developers but the open nature of the web means there is nothing stopping this program from continuing to exist.

All Of The Amazing Post-Credits Scenes From Every Marvel Film

0
0

pepper potts iron man 3

The Marvel movies have turned the post-credits scene into an art. The scenes are so well established that they've expanded them into mid-credits scenes, often offering two bonuses on every movie.

With Captain America: The Winter Soldier in theaters this weekend, here's a look back at every Marvel mid-and-post-credits scene, and what they meant. By the way, stay all the way through the Winter Soldier credits to catch both scenes in that one.

The history of Marvel's bonus scenes >

1. 'Iron Man' (2008): The Nick Fury Reveal

As Marvel's introduction to the world of the Avengers, Iron Man was a huge success. The DNA of Marvel's mega-franchise strategy was all in that one movie, complete with a post-credits reveal that teased bigger things to come.

As Tony Stark walks through his dimmed home, his AI, Jarvis, shuts down and Tony sees the trench-coated silhouette of Nick Fury, who asks, "You think you're the only superhero in the world? Mr. Stark, you've become a part of a bigger universe. You just don't know it yet."

2. 'The Incredible Hulk' (2008): The Misstep

This one was a hiccup in the Marvel film universe. After the Hulk and Abomination duke it out in The Incredible Hulk, Tony Stark shows up to a bar where General 'Thunderbolt' Ross (Hulk's historic nemesis) is drinking. He gloats over the General's ineptitude before telling him, "We're putting a team together."

That seed did not bear any fruit in later films, and Marvel's Kevin Feige, the mastermind behind the Avengers mega-franchise, admits it was a misstep. "I will say that the Tony Stark cameo in The Incredible Hulk required us to [laugh] get ourselves out of a corner." They got out of that corner through a convoluted plot that's quickly explained in The Consultant, a Marvel one-shot included on the Thor DVD.

3. 'Iron Man 2' (2010): The Hammer

By 2010 Marvel had a very clear sense of where it was going with the Avengers, so the Iron Man 2post-credits scene makes a little more sense.

With Whiplash defeated we cut to Agent Coulson, who had a bigger role in the second Iron Man movie, investigating a desert crash site. Then we get our first glimpse of Mjolnir, Thor's fabled hammer, setting up Thor, which hit theaters a year later.

Scottish teenager Lucy Clode was visiting New York City as an early 18th birthday present when she got a real star-studded surprise.

It all started when Lucy waited outside of actor James Franco's Broadway show, "Of Mice and Men," and took an Instagram video with the star. In it, you can hear the 35-year-old actor say, "You gotta tag me."

Selfies ensued, with @JamesFrancoTV tagged in the Instagram posts.

Later that night, Franco direct messaged the teenage tourist on Instagram.

Lucy posted the ensuing conversation on Imgur, and even asked the actor for proof of identification  to which he obliged, twice, with selfies  after he inquired about her age, whereabouts, relationship status status, phone number, and whether he should book a hotel room.

Ironically, Franco seduces a teenage Emma Roberts in his latest film "Palo Alto," so we're not sure if this is a publicity stunt or real-life scandal. Judge for yourself below.

Franco responded to the leaked conversation on his own Instagram account at 12:08 p.m. ET, writing "I HOPE PARENTS KEEP THEIR TEENS AWAY FROM ME. Thank you." He later deleted the image, but the link remains on his Twitter account.

'Captain America' Sequel Set To Be Largest April Box-Office Opening Weekend Ever

captain america black widow chris evans scarlett johansson"Captain America: The Winter Soldier" is opening Friday and is expected to have a huge box-office weekend. Not only should it have the largest box-office opening weekend for an April release but also of 2014 so far.

Currently, "The Winter Soldier" is commanding 82% of the Fandango's advanced weekend ticket sales. That's ahead of advanced tickets sales for "Thor: The Dark World" at the same point.

That sequel brought in $85.7 million opening weekend last November.

The film is also out-pacing ticket pre-sales of the fifth “Fast & Furious” movie, 2011’s “Fast Five” which debuted to $86.2 million.

Estimates are placing "The Winter Soldier" anywhere from $90-$97 million this weekend.

Fandango's Chief Correspondent Dave Karger tells Business Insider fan's anticipation of next summer's "Avengers" sequel is one reason the movie is already selling like a summer hit.

"This movie is the closest thing that we're going to get to an Avengers film all year and the Marvel fans know that," says Karger.

Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow is another driving force behind strong ticket sales.

"Scarlett is a huge factor in the early success of this film," says Karger. "She has a huge fanbase, and early reviews have really trumpeted her position in the movie as a strong female co-lead."

"Captain America: The Winter Soldier" opened up in Europe a week ahead of its US release and has already made $75.2 million overseas.

Elon Musk Goes Off On New HBO Show 'Silicon Valley' — The Guy Who Wrote It Has Probably Never Even Gone To Burning Man (TSLA)

solarcity elon musk

Tesla CEO Elon Musk is not feeling new HBO show "Silicon Valley."

RE/Code reporter Nellie Bowles caught up with Musk after the show premiered in San Francisco

Here's what he said:

"Most startups are a soap opera, but not that kind of soap opera...

"None of those characters were software engineers. Software engineers are more helpful, thoughtful, and smarter...

"I really feel like Mike Judge has never been to Burning Man, which is Silicon Valley. If you haven’t been, you just don’t get it. You could take the craziest L.A. party and multiply it by a thousand, and it doesn’t even get f**king close to what’s in Silicon Valley. The show didn’t have any of that."

Silicon Valley is a pretty funny new show that skewers the technology industry.

The main character is a Mark Zuckerberg-type of person who is shy and awkward. He's built a site that compresses files. He gets offers to sell the company to a Google-like company, or take VC money and try to build it on his own.

Either the show hit a little too close to home for Musk, or it totally whiffed.

David Letterman Announces He Will Retire In 2015

David Letterman

David Letterman announced during the Thursday taping of his "Late Show" that he will be retiring in 2015.

R.E.M. bassist Mike Mills, who is performing on tonight's show, broke the news on Twitter.

Letterman, 66, has been a fixture on late-night television since the 1982 debut of "Late Night With David Letterman" on NBC

When Jay Leno took Johnny Carson's "Tonight Show" host spot after he retired in 1992, Letterman left NBC for CBS' "Late Show."

From then on, it was a constant ratings battle between Letterman and Leno, ending just this February when Leno retired.

Letterman is the longest-serving late-night host in TV history. Last year he surpassed Carson at the 31-year mark. Leno had a solid 22-year run.

Craig Ferguson now reportedly has right of first refusal for a post-Letterman "Late Night" in his contract.

Here's how The New York Times' Bill Carter described it:

[Ferguson's] previous contracts with CBS have included what amounts to a "Prince of Wales" clause, giving Mr. Ferguson the right to inherit the late-night show in the 11:35 p.m. time period should Mr. Letterman decide to leave. (Those clauses have never been ironclad, however, because a network can choose to pay off the deal rather than complete the succession, as Mr. Letterman learned when Mr. Leno was chosen to succeed Mr. Carson in 1992.)

"Ferguson's CBS contract also expires in 2015, so if CBS opts to buy him out instead of giving him the prestigious 'Late Show,' he could end up leaving the network altogether, leaving the network's 12:35 slot vacant, as well," reports Splisider.

But Nikki Finke tweeted that her sources say Stephen Colbert is "the only one on the air currently that CBS is considering."

Letterman's representative released this official statement.

David Letterman, during a taping of tonight’s Late Show, said that he informed Leslie Moonves, President and CEO of CBS Corporation, that he will step down as the host of the show in 2015, which is when his current contract expires.

“The man who owns this network, Leslie Moonves, he and I have had a relationship for years and years and years, and we have had this conversation in the past, and we agreed that we would work together on this circumstance and the timing of this circumstance.  And I phoned him just before the program, and I said ‘Leslie, it’s been great, you’ve been great, and the network has been great, but I’m retiring,’” said Letterman.

“I just want to reiterate my thanks for the support from the network, all of the people who have worked here, all of the people in the theater, all the people on the staff, everybody at home, thank you very much.  What this means now, is that Paul and I can be married.”

“We don’t have the timetable for this precisely down – I think it will be at least a year or so, but sometime in the not too distant future, 2015 for the love of God, in fact, Paul and I will be wrapping things up,” he added, to a standing ovation from the audience in the Ed Sullivan Theater.

Leslie Moonves, president and CEO of CBS, released the following statement:

“When Dave decided on a one-year extension for his most recent contract, we knew this day was getting closer, but that doesn’t make the moment any less poignant for us. For 21 years, David Letterman has graced our Network’s air in late night with wit, gravitas and brilliance unique in the history of our medium. During that time, Dave has given television audiences thousands of hours of comedic entertainment, the sharpest interviews in late night, and brilliant moments of candor and perspective around national events. He’s also managed to keep many celebrities, politicians and executives on their toes – including me. There is only one David Letterman. His greatness will always be remembered here, and he will certainly sit among the pantheon of this business. On a personal note, it’s been a privilege to get to know Dave and to enjoy a terrific relationship. It’s going to be tough to say goodbye. Fortunately, we won’t have to do that for another year or so. Until then, we look forward to celebrating Dave’s remarkable show and incredible talents.”

Watch Letterman announce his retirement on Thursday's show.

 And so the countdown begins.
