Missandei daenerys game of thrones season 4

"Game of Thrones" seems like it could go on for a while, but the writers already have an end date in mind.

Co-creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss tell Vanity Fair in its upcoming April issue they see the show running another three to four seasons.

“It doesn’t just keep on going because it can,” Weiss tells Vanity Fair. “I think the desire to milk more out of it is what would eventually kill it, if we gave in to that.”

The HBO show, about to start its fourth season next month, is based on the "Song of Ice and Fire" series from author George R.R. Martin. So far, there are five novels.

Season 4, set to debut April 6, is expected to follow the second-half of the third book in the series, “A Storm of Swords.”

There's a new app called Popcorn Time that uses BitTorrent software to let you stream the latest movies for free, Torrentfreak reports, calling the service "Netflix for pirates."

Popcorn Time acknowledges its service may be illegal depending on what country you live in. However, one developer named Sebastian told TorrentFreak he's not worried about Hollywood hounding the creators.

“We don’t host anything, and none of the developers makes any money," the developer said. "There are no ads, no premium accounts, and no subscription fees or anything like that. It’s an experiment to learn and share.”

Time.com mentions that movie studios may have a hard time taking down the app since the developers are working on a free and open-source project. However, movie studios have sued individual file downloaders, so viewers may be more at risk and should be cautious when watching a movie.

Here's how Popcorn Time looks. We do not condone the use of its service.

This warning will appear immediately after you download the app for your computer.

A Rapper Went To Jail For 5 Years And Here's The Technology He Couldn't Believe When He Got Out

Lil Boosie rapper

Rapper Lil Boosie, 31, spent five years in the Louisiana State Penitentiary after pleading guilty to drug charges.

But when he was released last week, the outside world was a different place.

Lil Boosie went to prison in 2009, but both Instagram and FaceTime didn't launch until 2010, making the technologies the most mindblowing things the rapper has seen since his release.

"I was surprised when I looked on my iPhone and you could look at people and talk on the phone at the same time," he said in a recent interview. "I wasn't used to that so I was like, the world has changed!"

He added, "I ain't never seen Instagram. I heard about it, but it was a new experience seeing it in person."

But while Boosie was away, his team created an Instagram account for him, often posting flashback photos with the hashtag #FreeBoosie.

Since the first post 15 months ago, @officialboosie has amassed nearly 388,000 followers and counting.

Yesterday, Boosie took over the account himself.

In his first Q&A since his release, Boosie also noted that the musical landscape has changed.

"I feel like what I been hearing these last three or four days on the radio it's different from my music, and different brings greatness," the rapper explains. "So I just feel I stand alone in the music industry to tell you the truth."

While behind bars, Boosie says he wrote 1,018 songs and even "a hit for Justin Bieber."

Daft Punk And Jay Z's Secret Song 'Computerized' Hits The Internet

Jay-Z

Daft Punk and Jay Z have teamed up for a new track titled "Computerized."

The song made its way onto the Internet Tuesday, and according to Pitchfork, it is 100% real.

This is not the first time Daft Punk have combined their electronic beats with a rapper's rhymes. The helmeted-duo were sampled by Kanye West on "Stronger" and were producers on West's "I Am A God."

As for "Computerized" itself, not much is known about its creation (some are saying it's a cut track from Daft Punk's "Tron: Legacy" soundtrack), but after giving it a listen it's hard not to think of it as anything less than awesome.

Disney is in talks to buy one of the largest networks that produces video for YouTube for $500 million, according to Re/code.

Maker Studios creates content aimed mostly at millennials.

Re/code reports Maker receives 5.5 billion views per month on its channels.

Maker is home to one of YouTube's biggest stars, "PewDiePie," a 24-year-old Swedish videogame commenter, Felix Arvid Ulf Kjelberg.

All together, Kjelberg has received 3.7 billion views on YouTube and has 23.9 million subscribers

The Financial Times valued Maker at $300 million in 2013.

The Mouse House wouldn't be the first studio to invest in YouTube talent.

DreamWorks Animation purchased AwesomenessTV for $33 million last year, a deal that could eventually pay up to $117 million.

Here's How Funny Or Die Landed Obama As A Guest On 'Between Two Ferns'

0
0

Obama Zach Galifinakis Between Two Ferns

On Monday night, President Barack Obama appeared as a guest on Zach Galifianakis' "Between Two Ferns"  the Funny or Die web series that parodies celebrity interviews.

The 6-minute video passed more than 2 million views after just three hours online.

Today, "Ferns" executive producer Mike Farah is explaining how the low budget web show  which has been visited by Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Justin Bieber, Natalie Portman, among many others— landed its most powerful guest ever.

Last summer, Farah tells Variety that he was "among the industry figures to attend a meeting with White House advisers where the topic was how Hollywood could help get the message out about healthcare reform."

It was here he came up with the goal of getting Obama on the show — but he didn't approach the president directly.

Instead, Farah broached the subject with Obama's senior adviser, Valerie Jarrett, when she was visiting Los Angeles in September. And she liked it, they just had to wait until the timing was right.

Fast forward to Obama wanting to promote enrollment in the Affordable Care Act to a younger, social media savvy audience ahead of the March 31st deadline to sign up for coverage.

From there, Farah says the zinger-filled script  that included jabs about Obamacare and his "home country of Kenya" “came together pretty quickly. I can’t say it was a very belabored process.”

Farah tells Variety he thinks he was able to land the POTUS as a guest because in D.C., “People are so used to going to meeting after meeting, and nothing ever happening,” but Funny or Die allows for a speedy turnaround time.

It also doesn't hurt that the White House was already familiar with Funny or Die thanks to previous political satire skits about healthcare reform, including one starring Jennifer Hudson.

“We built a great working relationship with the White House,” Farah said. “I think it is a smart move [on the White House's part], and hopefully it helps in some small way."

Overall, Farah calls the whole "Two Ferns" experience “surreal” and tweeted that it was "a great day."

The 5 Most Interesting Things We Learned About The Actor Who Plays The 'True Detective' Killer

0
0

Warning: If you haven't watched the season finale of "True Detective," there are spoilers.

"True Detective" fans have been buzzing with theories to the season's end for weeks.

Now that the HBO series has finally drawn to a close, we know the man snatching up and killing women and children across Louisiana was the lawnmower man, Errol Childress.

While Childress, played by Glenn Fleshler, may have been vile on screen, in reality he's a dad, husband, and seems like a big sweetheart.

The actor spoke with Vulture about being cast as the notorious “Spaghetti Monster” and life outside of “True Detective.”

Here's what we learned:

1. He’s always been told he’s scary.

"I’ve played a lot of scary people in my life. I’m always being told I’m so scary. I feel like an ordinary guy.” Fleshler told Vulture

2. He’s a dad.

With his recent role on “True Detective,” he’s finding that a little difficult.

“I’m trying to figure out how I can continue to take my toddler to the playground,” says Fleshler.

3. Getting into character really took a toll on him.

“I remember working on the scripts late at night while my wife and baby were sleeping and crawling into bed with my wife and just being in tears 'cause it was so painful to think about the big picture.”

4. He's known for his work as a stage actor and an impressionist.

Remember all those accents Fleshler pulled off in the series finale?

He's been in the Broadway revivals of "Death of a Salesman," "Arcadia," and "Guys and Dolls" along with "The Merchant of Venice."

5. He’s been perfecting his role as Errol since 2012 and watched a lot of “Andy Griffith” to prepare.

“The original references in the script were piles of videotapes of things that were probably from the ’50s and ’60s, which is a sort of eerie touch, to keep him [Errol] in another era."

Chelsea Handler Rips Piers Morgan As 'Terrible Interviewer' On Live TV

Chelsea Handler Piers Morgan

Talk show hosts Piers Morgan and Chelsea Handler got into an epic blowout on “Piers Morgan Live” on Monday.

After Morgan spent the commercial break tweeting from his phone, noticeably irritated guest Handler slammed Morgan as "a terrible interviewer" and said “maybe that’s why your job is coming to an end," about the recently canceled show.

It got ugly. Here's the exchange:

  • Piers Morgan: "How do you spend your life when you're not working?"
  • Chelsea Handler: "Well I have to come here and tolerate this nonsense."
  • PM: "You tweet very amusingly."
  • CH: "I wish you did. I want your viewers to know that in the middle of the commercial break — I mean, you can't even pay attention for 60 seconds. You're a terrible interviewer."
  • PM: "Well, you just weren't keeping my attention."
  • CH: "That's not my problem, this is your show and you have to pay attention to the guests that you invited on your show."
  • PM: "If they're interesting enough."
  • CH: "Listen, it doesn't matter how interesting I am, you signed up for this job."
  • PM: "Of course it does!"
  • CH: "Well maybe that's why your job is coming to an end."

See how Piers Morgan reacted below. The whole thing is seriously uncomfortable.

Female Protagonists Made Up A Tiny Percentage Of 2013's Top Movies

0

gravity sandra bullock

A new study by San Diego State University has found that only 15% of protagonists were female characters in the top 100 grossing films of 2013.

Even though the year included many standout roles for women like Sandra Bullock's Oscar nominated performance in "Gravity," the new numbers show just how lacking Hollywood is when it comes to female characters.

Martha Lauzen, the director of SDSU's Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film, who created the study, looked at 2,300 characters in the top grossing films of the year.

While the 15% number is unsettling, Lauzen's study titled "It's A Man's (Celluloid) World" found other numbers that were just as alarming:

  • Women only made up 29% of major characters.
  • Only 30% of all speaking roles went to women.
  • 13% of the top 100 films featured equal numbers of both male and female characters.
  • Female characters remain younger than male characters with 26% being in their 20's and 28% being in their 30's (compared to men at 27% in their 30's and 31% in their 40's).
  • Race was skewed even more with 73% of all female characters being white. The study even states that moviegoers were as likely to see an "other-worldly" female character (3%) as they were to see an Asian female character (3%).
  • 61% of male characters were actually seen working compared to the much smaller 40% of women.

SOURCE: Sheryl Sandberg Is NOT About To Become Disney's New CEO (DIS, FB)

0
0

sheryl sandberg

Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg has had talks about becoming the new CEO of Disney, according to the New York Post:

The 44-year-old Sandberg already sits on the Disney board and is said to have had conversations about her interest.

But a source close to Sandberg tells Business Insider that the Post's story is wrong. "It's not true," this source insists.

Current Disney CEO Bob Iger is set for mandatory retirement in two years — which is obviously fuelling speculation about who will replace him.

The rumor comes on the same day as Anne Sweeney, co-chairwoman of Disney Media Networks, stepped down from her role to become a director. The New York Times interpreted that move to mean Sweeney had learned she had no chance of succeeding Iger at Disney.

The impetus behind the rumor would thus be, did Sweeney leave because she heard Sandberg had the inside track? If so — again, this is speculation — Sweeney was misinformed, our source says.

The departure of Sandberg from Facebook would be both a blow to CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who recruited her personally to help steer Facebook through its IPO, yet not totally unexpected.

In addition to managing the social network, Sandberg has written a book, "Lean In," heads a foundation advancing women's interests, and is long-rumored to be a potential future U.S. Treasury secretary. She recently nixed the idea she wanted to be a senator. But it has been assumed for a long time in Silicon Valley that Facebook would not be the capstone of Sandberg's life's work.

Sandberg would actually be an excellent Disney CEO, even if she doesn't want the job.

She's young (just 44), has kids, knows a ton about audience data and what goes viral in the digital age, and has an MBA and a degree in economics from Harvard. She previously held a senior position at Google. In person, she's charmingly normal. And she's great at handling the media.

At Facebook, Sandberg led the company (along with ad sales chief Carolyn Everson) as it positioned itself as a rival to primetime TV — one of Disney's core businesses, via ESPN ABC, and Disney's cable properties. Sandberg could often be heard repeating the mantra that Facebook's audience was the equivalent of three Super Bowls per day.

There are two inside choices for Disney CEO, the Post says:

... industry executives say the board wanted to cast a wider net. “They’re not happy with the two main choices,” said another source.

Those executives are Chief Financial Officer James “Jay” Rasulo or parks chief Thomas Staggs.

The Post's story is thinly sourced and gives no other concrete details. Sandberg is a Disney board member, and would obviously be in on such conversations even if she was not a candidate.

Zuckerberg would not have difficulty replacing Sandberg as COO at Facebook. But Sandberg would leave big shoes to fill. On earnings calls, it is clear that while Zuckerberg is comfortable talking about his vision and, to a lesser extent, the engineering challenges at Facebook, it's Sandberg who is most au fait with the nuts and bolts of how Facebook actually makes money and delivers its numbers. She has spent about a year, for instance, trying to convince Wall Street to pay attention to Facebook's massive mobile app download advertising business — a revenue line that analysts have only just woken up to.

Disney's board also includes Twitter and Square founder Jack Dorsey— a sign that the company realizes its future is digital and not based entirely in movies, rollercoasters and merchandising.

Xbox Live Is Down For A Lot Of People Trying To Play New Game 'Titanfall'

Update: Xbox Live is back up and running again, according to XboxSupport.

Earlier: A lot of people trying to sign in to Xbox Live, Microsoft's paid online gaming service, to play new game release "Titanfall" are not able to access the game.

Gamers trying to sign in to their accounts are being met with the following error screen:

xbox live down

We first noticed the error a little after 5 p.m. EST when we tried to log on and play "Titanfall."

Attempts to log back in hours later have prompted the same screen.

Today marks the launch of "Titanfall," single-person shooter online game from Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment that's exclusively on the Xbox One.

The game is the first real anticipated title for the new Xbox console. "Titanfall" is being looked at as a major make or break to help the Xbox One make up some ground in the next-gen console war against Sony's dominating PlayStation 4

Xbox Live’s Director of Programming Larry Hryb (known better as Major Nelson by gamers for his Xbox Live gamertag) has said the Xbox Live issues are not related to Titanfall.

For those trying to access Xbox Live, updates are being added to the Xbox blog HERE.

Currently, access to Live is limited.

xbox live

During the game's launch last night, players also reported connectivity issues which EA and Respawn quickly responded to with a patch to the game.

As of 10:47 p.m., @XboxSupport announced Xbox Live is back up and running.

Here's the official statement we received from a Microsoft spokesperson:

"Microsoft is investigating an issue that may interrupt customer access to some Microsoft online services. This is unrelated to the launch of "Titanfall" and the Xbox Live service is up and running. The issue on Xbox is resolved, but unfortunately a small percentage of Xbox One owners may still experience a sign-in issue on Xbox Live, which can be fixed with a cold reboot of the Xbox One by powering down, unplugging, waiting 10 seconds, plugging back in and powering back on. The Xbox team sincerely apologizes for the interruption."

Everyone knows the name Commissioner Gordon. He is one of the crime world's greatest foes, a man whose reputation is synonymous with law and order. But what is known of Gordon's story and his rise from rookie detective to Police Commissioner? What did it take to navigate the multiple layers of corruption that secretly ruled Gotham City, the spawning ground of the world's most iconic villains? And what circumstances created them - the larger-than-life personas who would become Catwoman, The Penguin, The Riddler, Two-Face and The Joker?

Gotham is an origin story of the great DC Comics super villains and vigilantes, revealing an entirely new chapter that has never been told. From executive producer/writer Bruno Heller (The MentalistRome), Gotham follows one cop's rise through a dangerously corrupt city teetering on the edge of evil and chronicles the birth of one of the most popular super heroes of our time.

Growing up in Gotham City's surrounding suburbs, James Gordon (Ben McKenzieSouthlandThe O.C.) romanticized the city as a glamorous and exciting metropolis where his late father once served as a successful district attorney. Now, two weeks into his new job as a Gotham City detective and engaged to his beloved fiancée, Barbara Kean (Erin RichardsOpen Grave,Breaking In), Gordon is living his dream - even as he hopes to restore the city back to the pure version he remembers it was as a kid.

Brave, honest and ready to prove himself, the newly-minted detective is partnered with the brash, but shrewd police legend Harvey Bullock (Donal LogueSons of AnarchyTerriersVikingsCopper), as the two stumble upon the city's highest-profile case ever: the murder of local billionaires Thomas and Martha Wayne. At the scene of the crime, Gordon meets the sole survivor: the Waynes' hauntingly intense 12-year-old son, Bruce (David MazouzTouch), toward whom the young detective feels an inexplicable kinship. Moved by the boy's profound loss, Gordon vows to catch the killer.

Although the crime drama will follow Gordon's turbulent and singular rise through the Gotham City police department, led by Police Captain Sarah Essen (Zabryna GuevaraBurn Notice), it also will focus on the unlikely friendship Gordon forms with the young heir to the Wayne fortune, who is being raised by his unflappable butler, Alfred (Sean PertweeCamelotElementary). It is a friendship that will last them all of their lives, playing a crucial role in helping the young boy eventually become the crusader he's destined to be.

Gotham is based upon characters published by DC Comics and is produced by Warner Bros. Television. Executive producer Bruno Heller (The Mentalist) wrote the pilot, which will be directed and executive-produced by Emmy Award nominee Danny Cannon (the CSI series, Nikita).

Former 'Shark Tank' Contestant: If You Want To Raise Money, Don't Go On The Show

0
0

Shark Tank Scott Jordan SCOTTEVEST

To aspiring entrepreneurs dreaming of landing a deal on "Shark Tank," a former contestant says don't bother.

Scott Jordan, founder and CEO of apparel line TEC-Technology Enabled Clothing, appeared on ABC's hit pitch show in March 2012 seeking a $500,000 investment in the licensing of his clothing company in exchange for a 15% stake. He was eventually offered a combined $1 million in deals but felt all the equity asks were too high, and walked away empty-handed.

Two years after that experience, Jordan says he considers "Shark Tank" an entertaining TV program but a terrible way to raise funds. "If you truly think that this is an opportunity to raise money, it is idiotic to say the least," he tells Business Insider.

Jordan argues that the percentage of deals that actually receive funding on "Shark Tank" is tiny. According to ABC, some 36,000 people applied to be on the show last season. During that time, 26 episodes aired with four products typically featured in each. That's a total of 104 entrepreneurs (or teams) who actually got air time, or a mere 0.3% of the people who applied for a spot — and none of them are guaranteed an investment from the Sharks.

That said, the lucky few who do secure air time on "Shark Tank" certainly get a boost. Experts estimate that a slot on the show could be worth as much as $4 million to $5 million in free marketing exposure, particularly if the temperamental Sharks take a liking to the product. In the past, appearances have vaulted smartphone apps to No. 1 spots in the iTunes App Store overnight, and doubled sales in just months.

Jordan acknowledges the exposure value of going on the ABC show. But even considering that, he still doesn't think the slim chance of a big payoff is worth the six to 12 weeks of effort it can take to apply and, if chosen, film a segment. He takes issue most with what he feels is a massive perception problem about "Shark Tank."

"I think that people watch the show and think that appearing on it is pretty much a guaranteed path to riches," he says. "It's important for people to know that this is not the golden ticket. There are more traditional, better ways to do it."

Rather than trying to raise money on "Shark Tank," Jordan suggests people go to family and friends for help, or take out a second mortgage on a house. It's a valid point, but also worth taking with a grain of salt. Unlike most other early-stage entrepreneurs, Jordan was not strapped for cash when he went on the show.

At the time, Jordan's company was on track to do $12 million in sales for 2012. He was an ex-lawyer who had carefully calculated how to seek funding from the Sharks without sacrificing a bit of his lucrative retail line. He also had powerful connections, and made a point of placing a call to his board member, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, midway through his "Shark Tank" segment.

When Jordan balked at the options on the table, the episode became confrontational and nasty. "What is your problem?" Shark Robert Herjavec asked. "Kevin, you're out, you're out," Jordan shot back, pointing at Kevin O'Leary and Herjavec. "I don't need you."

"Show a little more respect," Herjavec yelled, as the TEC founder stormed out of the tank.

Today, Jordan still clearly holds grudges against the Sharks (he's happy to call Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban a "billionaire bully"), but his thoughts on the show are more tempered. Watch it, enjoy it, but don't put all your faith in it.

"There are lots of business lessons to be learned, but do not believe that what you see on TV is what is happening," he says.

3 More Mysterious 'Mad Men' Photos Show Don Draper In An Airport

mad men season 7 don draper

AMC released new photos for its upcoming seventh season of "Mad Men," and they're just as mysterious as all of the other imagery we've seen so far.

The new images show Don Draper (Jon Hamm) at an airport in different scenes with Peggy (Elisabeth Moss), Roger (John Slattery), and Megan (Jessica Paré).

If you're hunting for clues about the new season, you won't find much.

Series creator Matt Weiner told The Wrap the photos don't hint at the plot nor are they from upcoming episodes. Rather, they're meant as standalone shots.

“It's more designed as something we do every year before we launch the the show to present the characters in an abstract setting and remind everybody who's there, and show off our hair and makeup and costumes and photography."

So why the airport?

“It harkens back to something that has truly disappeared, which is – not the adventure of travel, hopefully that will never go away – but certainly the idea of glamour and travel is gone," added Weiner.

"Mad Men" returns to AMC April 13.

How Twitter Landed Comedian Billy Eichner His 'Parks And Recreation' Role

0

Billy Eichner Billy On The Street

Comedian Billy Eichner has garnered over 150,000 Twitter followers by yelling at unsuspecting people on the street in his popular web-turned-Fuse TV series, "Billy On The Street."

A few of Eichner's Twitter fans happen to include Amy Poehler and the rest of the "Parks and Recreation" cast and crew  so it was only a matter of time before the comedians joined forces.

Last year, Eichner landed his first real acting role as "Crazy Craig" on "Parks," and it's all thanks to social media. He explains to Rolling Stone in a new Q&A:

Amy [Poehler] was a fan of my Billy On The Street show; I had reached out to her to be on. I heard through the grapevine that people at Parks enjoyed my show, then Mike Schur ["Parks" writer/producer] and I set up a meet-up through Twitter.  After that first meeting, I got a DM on Twitter from Mike Schur and he said, "We have a part for you."

Lucky for Eichner, he was a hit. Unfortunately, his shows shoot on opposite coasts.

I thought I'd be in one or two episodes — and then I ended up in ten. My life was crazy because my show shoots in New York and Parks shoots in LA. I'd shoot my show all day in New York then get on the latest flight to LA to shoot at seven in the morning, then right back to New York.

But Poehler isn't Eichner's only celebrity fan. Neil Patrick Harris, Lena Dunham, Olivia Wilde, Rashida Jones, Paul Rudd, and many more have graced his guerilla-comedy show with guest appearances.

"Billy On The Street" premiers its third season on Fuse tonight.

Here's A Video Of Arnold Schwarzenegger Smashing Things With A Tank

Arnold Schwarzenegger has teamed up with an after-school program, and made a wonderful video of himself crushing things with a tank to drum up support.

The former governor and movie star drives a tank over a taxi, a bench press, a table of birthday cakes, bubble wrap, and a DVD of "Million Dollar Baby" in a surprisingly funny video. It's a promotion for a trip to Los Angeles and a day with Schwarzenegger, doing things like crushing stuff in his M47 Patton tank, working out, and smoking cigars.

One entry in the drawing costs $10. The money raised will go to After-School All Stars, which runs free programs for kids, including academic support and health and fitness activities. The competition is sponsored by Omaze, which offers access to these kinds of experiences and using the proceeds to support worthy causes.

If you're interested, listen to Arnold: "Come to L.A., and crush things in my tank!"

If not, enjoy the video anyway:
