Do not read ahead if you haven't watched the season finale of "True Detective."

Put all your theories to rest.

We just finished watching the season finale of "True Detective" and we FINALLY know the identity of the Yellow King / Spaghetti Monster.

Head back if you haven't watched yet!

The big killer Marty and Rust have been hunting down all season was the lawnmower man teased at the end of episode seven!

true detective lawnmower man errol

A lot of viewers weren't too surprised by the big reveal. Most people guessed it was lawnmower man by the end of the seventh episode.

If you were a supersleuth, eagle-eyed viewers caught on a lot earlier that Errol may be the killer when he was first introduced back in episode three.

My colleague Nick even pointed out a GIF that hinted at Errol's true identity (we get really into this).

Here's the full scene from episode three:

Though I considered lawnmower man early on, I ultimately decided the spaghetti monster was someone we hadn't seen yet. (It couldn't have been THAT easy, right?)

Either way, it was a very satisfying end to an eight-episode season.

What did you think of the finale? It should be a huge ratings winner for HBO.

300 rise of an empire eva green

"300: Rise of an Empire" easily won the box office this weekend.

The sequel to the 2007 film performed a little better than expected earning $45 million.

The Warner Bros. and Legendary movie cost $110 million. It shouldn't have any problem making that money back. "Rise of an Empire" has taken off overseas earning another $87.8 million opening weekend for a grand total of $132.9 million.

That was enough to hold DreamWorks Animation's latest cartoon "Mr. Peabody & Sherman" at bay.

It's not an amazing figure considering the animated picture cost about $145 million; however, it's also playing out better overseas.

The big winner for the weekend was Wes Anderson's limited release of "The Grand Budapest Hotel" featuring Ralph Fiennes, Adrien Brody, Bill Murray.

Opening in just four theaters, the film made $800,000!

Overseas, the movie has made $10 million. The movie expands into more theaters next week.

Here's a quick look at the full box-office weekend:

10. "Ride Along": $2 million
9. "12 Years A Slave": $2.2 million
8. "Frozen": $3 million
7. "3 Days to Kill": $3.06 million
6. "The Monuments Men": $3.1 million
5. "Son of God": $10 million
4. "The LEGO Movie": $11 million
The Warner Bros. animated picture has now taken in $360.6 million worldwide.
3. "Non-Stop": $15.4 million
2. "Mr. Peabody & Sherman": $32.5 million
1. "300: Rise of An Empire": $45.1 million

Snowden Vs. Dunham At South By Southwest

AUSTIN, TEX — "Girls" star Lena Dunham and NSA leaker Edward Snowden are both speaking at the South By Southwest Interactive conference today. At the same time.

This morning, the SXSW coordinators sent out an email warning attendees of long lines for the Snowden event, which will take place in a hall at the Austin Convention Center that seats approximately 5,000 people. There are several spillover rooms where the talk will be streamed too. (Snowden will be video conferencing in.)

But the coordinators didn't anticipate the crowds for Dunham's talk, which takes place in just one hall. Both events begin at 11 a.m. local time, but there's almost no line for the Snowden talk.

Here's the Snowden line about 20 minutes before the event. We saw maybe a dozen people waiting to get in.

The main room for Snowden's talk was mostly full, but people weren't exactly dying to get in like they were for Dunham's keynote. We overheard SXSW coordinators telling people not to cut the Dunham line.

We're told by SXSW coordinators that one reason why the Dunham line was so long was because it was only open to attendees of the film portion of SXSW. Interactive atendees weren't allowed in unless they had a special pass.

8 Things We Learned About 'Mad Men' Star Elisabeth Moss From Her NY Mag Profile

$
0
0

Elisabeth Moss NY MagWhen "Mad Men" finally returns on April 13th, Elisabeth Moss — the 31-year-old actress who plays Peggy — will be the focus of the show's plot line just as much as Jon Hamm's Don Draper character.

Nominated for an Emmy for playing Peggy four times, Moss' personal life is a bit more of a mystery.

In a new interview with New York Magazine, Moss opened up about growing up a Scientologist, her divorce from Fred Armisen, and the TV shows she watches in her free time.

Here are the 8 most interesting things we learned about "Lizzie," as Moss is called by her inner circle.

1. "Mad Men" creator Matthew Weiner had a plan for Peggy all along:

“In the opening credits, my name is after Jon Hamm’s, who stars as Draper. But when I did the pilot I was not necessarily in that position. I’m No. 4 on the call sheet. But Matt put me second in the credits. I guess he knew what was going to happen.”

2. She thinks acting is "very strange":

“Acting is not stupid, but it’s a very strange profession, honestly. My job is to get up, and get dressed in someone else’s clothes, and go and pretend that I’m someone else. Who does that? Nobody does that. Strippers and actors do that.”

3. Her heartbeat actually accelerates while filming:

“She’s not one of those actresses who is walking around with her headphones listening to Nine Inch Nails to get into a scene,” says her "The One I Love" co-star, Mark Duplass. “She’s joking around casually and then you yell ‘Action’ and her heartbeat goes to 150 beats per minute.” The heart rate may be an exaggeration, but the massive spike is not: On 'The One I Love,' her mike had to be changed and moved so it wouldn’t pick up its sound."

4. She is a bit of a hermit:

“I have a weird sequestering thing that happened. As a [child] dancer, you don’t know a lot about normal everyday life. You grow up in this little world of ballet, and I feel like that carried on into my adult life, where I have blinders on to a lot of stuff.”

“I don’t go to classes. I hate hiking. I don’t go to flea markets. I would like to do that stuff but I just don’t do that stuff."

5. She watches a lot of TV:

Her favorite shows include: "Scandal," "Parenthood," "Nashville," and "The Good Wife."

"Her Instagram handle references a Real Housewife — and she wound down every evening while shooting 'Top of the Lake' by binge-watching 'The Sopranos.'"

6. She started acting at age 5:

"She was born in Los Angeles, her mother a harmonica player, her father a music manager, and she was raised in what she sheepishly describes as a very lax academic environment, with her parents putting a serious premium on the arts. Her first real role came in a before–Sandra Bullock–was–Sandra Bullock mini-series, and she later played Baby Louise in a TV version of Gypsy starring Bette Midler—Moss has been attracted to serious characters from the beginning. But between the ages of 11 and 14, she focused on ballet."

7. She was raised in the church of Scientology:

“I’m not going to talk about it anymore,” she says firmly. “I said what it meant to me, and anyone can go and look at that if they want to know what I feel. But now it’s private, off limits.”

She has previously spoken about how the church is personally helpful to her, not anti-gay, and “grossly misunderstood by the media.” But Moss does not talk about Scientology even with friends and seems very comfortable with how uncomfortable it makes other people. “I would feel the same way, honestly,” she says. “I think if there was something that I didn’t know and didn’t understand, I would probably feel as opinionated. You know how you’re opinionated about when someone breaks up? Celebrities break up and you just feel like you know what happened?”

8. She had a "horrible" divorce from Fred Armisen after 8 months of marriage:

“Looking back, I feel like I was really young, and at the time I didn’t think that I was that young. It was extremely traumatic and awful and horrible. At the same time, it turned out for the best. I’m glad that I’m not there. I’m glad that it didn’t happen when I was 50. I’m glad I didn’t have kids. And I got that out of the way. Hopefully. Like, that’s probably not going to happen again.”

'Red Army’ Trailer Tells The Incredible Story Of The Russian Hockey Team During The Cold War

The new trailer for documentary "Red Army" tells the incredible story of the most dominant and politically influential sports team in history: the Soviet Union’s Red Army ice hockey team.

The doc acts as a sort of untold story behind the 2004 film “Miracle,” about how the U.S. Olympic hockey team defeated the seemingly invincible Russian squad during the 1980 Winter Olympics.

“It’s not a typical sports documentary, and it’s not a typical political documentary,” says filmmaker Gabe Polsky. “Sports have always had a patriotic bent — that’s what makes the Olympics so fun to watch. But this was a unique set of circumstances. Can you imagine representing a party about to crumble?”

After flying to Russia over a year ago to shoot interviews with former players and others involved, Polsky showed a rough cut to Hollywood big shots Werner Herzog and Jerry Weintraub, who both immediately signed on as executive producers.

As the documentary explains of the political tone at the time, "Sports were a kind of warfare."

"From childhood, they picked out the best of the best of the best with a different concept of how you play the game." Red Army Trailer Hockey

"The skill level of that team was astounding, they elevated hockey to an art form ... those players will go down in history as the greatest of all time."

"The KGB guys were always there. The game for them wasn't just a game."

American Apparel CEO's Cousin Wrote A Play About Accusations Of Sexual Harassment That Sounds Oddly Familiar

Dov Charney

Playwright Oren Safdie, first cousin of American Apparel CEO Dov Charney  who's been accused of sexual assault in multiple lawsuits  wrote a play about sexual harassment taking place in the workplace of a clothing brand. Buzzfeed reporter Sapna Maheshwari first pointed out the connection.

The play, "Unseamly," is about a young female employee charging her former boss, "the CEO of an international clothing company known for its risqué billboards," with sexual harassment. It ran in Montreal from late February to early March of this year.

Both Charney and the American Apparel brand have had their fair share of legal troubles throughout the years. The controversies ranged from Charney being accused multiple times of sexual harassment to avid criticism of the brand's overt sexuality in its advertising.

According to Buzzfeed, "The play paints an unflattering picture of all the characters, but especially Slatsky, who, like Charney, is also dark-haired and dresses in the kind of white short-sleeved polo favored by the real-life CEO."

Safdie also crafted the sexual harassment case as uncannily similar to the real-life case by Irene Morales against Charney, who accused him of making her his sex slave in 2011. The case was thrown out in 2012.

Has this caused any familial tension within the creative clan? “I’ve always drawn from my family, people that I know,” Safdie told the Montreal Gazette“When it’s your own family, it does ruffle some feathers, and I’ve had to deal with that over the years. But we’re a loving family and we all bounce back and hug each other.”

And it seems like Charney has taken it all in stride. “Dov loves his cousin and is looking forward to seeing the play soon,” a spokeswoman for American Apparel told Buzzfeed in an email.

Kevin Roose's Book About Young Wall Streeters Has Been Optioned For A TV Show

$

kevin rooseFox TV Studios has purchased the rights to Kevin Roose's new book "Young Money: Inside the Hidden World of Wall Street's Post Crash Recruits," a source familiar with the matter told Business Insider.

Roose, a business and technology writer for New York Magazine, followed eight young bankers and traders and documented their travails — the 100-hour workweeks, all-nighters, parties, and Occupy Wall Street-esque moral dilemmas.

Alfredo Barrios Jr., known most for his work on "Burn Notice" and "Law & Order," will be the show's writer, according to our source.

Fox Television Studios' Vice President of Programming Matt Loze, also of "Burn Notice," will be the point executive. Alan Gasmer and Peter Jaysen, who have previously worked on "Dateline NBC," will produce.

The book has been everywhere lately — it's a New York Times best seller— and Roose just made an appearance on The Daily Show.

There seems to be a renewed appetite for Wall Street on the screen, from Martin Scorsese's pump-and-dump blockbuster "The Wolf of Wall Street" to Frontline's exposé of embattled hedge funder Steve Cohen.

But this new show would presumably focus on the smaller cogs in the financial machine — stress-ridden first and second-year analysts.

Deadline Hollywood first reported the news.

"I'm thrilled," Roose told BI.

Barack Obama Appeared On 'Between Two Ferns,' And It Was Amazing

Barack Obama

President Barack Obama appeared on the hot seat of Zach Galifianakis' "Between Two Ferns," the Funny or Die series that parodies celebrity interviews.

Obama's purpose for appearing on the show was to promote enrollment in the Affordable Care Act ahead of the March 31 deadline to sign up for coverage. Ostensibly, appearing on Funny or Die had a specific target — young people.

Obama's appearance went well, and it was in keeping with the awkward, sometimes-cringeworthy nature of the series. Galifianakis asked Obama, who was introduced as a "community organizer," if he had plans to erect his presidential library in Kenya, his "home country."

Obama's best dig came after Galifianakis asked him whether he bemoaned the fact he can't run for a third term.

"No, I actually think it's a good idea. If I ran a third time, it'd be sort of like doing a third Hangover movie. Didn't really work out," Obama deadpanned.

Later in the interview, as Obama plugged the phone number to contact HealthCare.gov, Galifianakis said he was "off the grid" because he didn't want the government to look at his text messages.

"First of all, Zach, nobody's interested in looking at your texts," Obama said.

Some other questions from Galifianakis:

  • "Do you send Ambassador Rodman to North Korea on your behalf?"
  • "You said if you had a son you would not let him play football. But what makes you think he would want to play football? What if he was a nerd like you?"
  • "Why would you get the guy who created the Zune to create your [health care] website?"
  • "What is it like to be the last black president?"

Here's a GIF of their final, awkward handshake:

Frank Ocean Tells Chipotle To 'F--- OFF' Over $212,000 Commission

Rapper Frank Ocean responded to a lawsuit from burrito chain Chipotle late Monday by writing the company a check for $212,500 that said "F--- OFF" in the memo line.

The Mexican chain had filed suit against Ocean on Friday, claiming that he failed to record a cover of "Pure Imagination" for the company's "Scarecrow" ad campaign.

Chipotle claims he backed out of the project after the company gave him an advance of $212,500, and that he never returned the money despite failing to deliver the song, according to a copy of the lawsuit obtained by The Hollywood Reporter

Ocean's legal team claims the singer was deceived into thinking the ad campaign was meant to promote responsible farming, and that he no longer wanted to participate after learning that a Chipotle logo would appear at the end of the ad.

Ocean hasn't publicly commented on the suit until Monday, when his Tumblr account posted an image of the aforementioned check in his name for the exact amount that Chipotle gave him in the advance, Gawker reported.

Frank Ocean Tells Chipotle To 'F--- OFF' Over $212,500 Commission

In September, Chipotle made a haunting commercial on the evil of factory farming featuring Fiona Apple singing the creepy "Pure Imagination" song from "Willy Wonka."

Turns out rapper Frank Ocean, too, was contracted to do a similar deal for a Chipotle ad  but it all fell through and now things are getting ugly.

On Friday, Chipotle sued Ocean, claiming the Mexican fast food chain paid the rapper $212,500 to lend his vocal skills to an ad campaign but he never delivered. Ocean was set to make an additional $212,500 after the ad was finished.

Ocean's legal team countered by saying, “When Frank was asked to participate in this project, Chipotle’s representatives told him that the thrust of the campaign was to promote responsible farming. There was no Chipotle reference or logo in the initial presentation, and Chipotle told Frank that was an intentional element of the campaign.”

Chipotle argued in their suit that "the version Ocean viewed was roughly 80 percent complete and did not yet include the Chipotle logo at the end of the film," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Last night, Ocean made it very clear how he felt about the situation with Chipotle — posting a photo to his Tumblr of a check, presumably to Chipotle, for the amount of $212,500 along with the memo, “F--- OFF.”

 Frank Ocean Check Blurred

Despite the Chipotle debacle, Ocean is not averse to working with other brands. Just this morning he dropped a song featuring Diplo, Mick Jones, and Paul Simon that is featured on a Converse compilation album.

And here's the ad in question, that Fiona Apple apparently felt better about than Ocean:
