Here's Another Stomach-Turning Tale Of Sexism In The Gaming Industry That's Caused Outrage On Twitter

Women in the tech industry often endure some really horrible incidents of sexism. The gaming industry seems to be the worst, the source of a constant outpouring of such stories.

And that's doubly sad because the gaming industry is a dream career for so many people.

Another incident happened last week that led to the public apology and the resignation of Josh Mattingly, CEO and founder of games/tech blog Indie Statik, and an outpouring of outrage Twitter under the hashtag #thatwoman.

This is the story:

Mattingly reached out to a game industry veteran on Facebook to try to get her to leak details about a new game. In that Facebook chat he began writing inappropriate sexual comments. The more she politely tried to end the conversation, the more he ramped up his suggestions of what he wanted to do to her.

We won't quote his comments, except to say they were explicit, and involved his private parts and hers. It became so detailed that one of the screen shots of the chat that circulated on the Internet had part of the conversation blurred out.

In other words, this wasn't some misinterpreted "dongle" joke.

A friend of the woman tweeted about the incident. The tweet went viral and Mattingly publicly apologized on a blog posted on Tumblr, explaining:

I am mortified by my behavior as it was not only completely inappropriate, but it was fueled by alcohol and depression. My younger brother committed suicide last year and ever since then I haven’t been myself.

Shortly after the apology, blog site Kokatu wrote about the incident calling it "a stark illustration of the kind of treatment of women in the games industry that gets glossed over or discussed in general terms, but rarely gets exposed in so raw and ugly a form."

Ultimately, Mattingly resigned, tweeting: "Stepping down for a bit to work on myself. @indiestatik is in great hands and will continue to do good for indies."

After his resignation, Indie Statik condemned his behavior, writing:

The rest of the staff has been truly devastated by his actions. We do not condone this type of behavior, within our own staff or in the industry at large, and we are sorry for the discomfort and the confusion this has caused. We also want to assure our readers – gamers, developers and critics alike – that they can feel safe interacting with us ...

But that's not the end of it.

Many of the comments to Kokatu's article and Indie Statik's blog post were also awful. Some asked if the woman was somehow ok with being treated this way. (Short answer: hell no.) Many asked why she didn't shut him down faster and go public with it all herself.

Long answer: because in a sexist environment women don't want to be labeled "that woman," the one that causes trouble. And that led to an outpouring on Twitter with the #thatwoman hashtag in which people shared more sexism stories about why they did or didn't speak up. (It joins other sexism-in-tech Twitter hashtags like #1reasonwhy.)

ABC Just Ordered A New Show Called 'Selfie'

ABC is jumping on the social media train and hopes it pays off big time.

The network just ordered a pilot episode for a show called "Selfie," based off the popular trend of taking a photo of yourself.

Here's the show's plot via Entertainment Weekly:

“Comedy inspired by My Fair Lady tells the story of a self-obsessed 20-something woman who is more concerned with ‘likes’ than being liked. After suffering a very public and humiliating breakup, she becomes the subject of a viral video and suddenly has more social media ‘followers’ than she ever imagined — but for all the wrong reasons. She enlists the help of a marketing expert at her company to help repair her tarnished image.”

Though the show comes from "Suburgatory" writer Emily Kapnek, this sounds like it comes a few years too late to piggyback off the trend.

The last time a network tried to cash in off a trend we received "$#*! My Dad Says" based off a Twitter handle. The CBS show lasted 18 episodes before receiving the axe.

"The American west is a terrible place and time. Everything out here, that's not you, wants to kill you," Seth MacFarlane says in the first trailer for "A Million Ways to Die in the West."

That's how life is for MacFarlane, who co-wrote, directed, and stars in the upcoming wild, wild western that takes place in 1882 Arizona.

The trailer shows off the film's A-list cast from Charlize Theron and Liam Neeson to Sarah Silverman and Amanda Seyfried, but also has enough death, violence, and salty old west language to make it restricted and NSFW, so be warned!

The film comes out guns blazin' in theaters on May 30th.

Toronto "Crack Mayor" Rob Ford is being sued by his sister's ex-boyfriend for allegedly having him beat up in prison. Justin Bieber was just charged with assault for beating up a limo driver in Canada last month.

And Jon Stewart is having a field day with it all.

In a "Daily Show" segment titled “What the f---’s going on in Canada?” Stewart mocks a news reporter who starts a story with, "Believe it or not, things are getting worse for Rob Ford."

"Believe it or not?!" Stewart responds in astonishment. "I've never heard anything more believable!"

Stewart argues that it would be far more surprising to hear "Believe it or not..."

  • Rob Ford is introducing a new fragrance
  • I just read this really interesting piece in the New Yorker by Rob Ford
  • When I go away, I have Rob Ford watch my children

Stewart went on to bash Bieber's recent troubles with the law and called both "playful scamps… accused of committing major felonies.” Watch the segment below:

Jesse Eisenberg Will Play Lex Luthor In 'Batman/Superman' Movie

jesse eisenberg lex luthor batman superman movie

Well, this is a shocker.

Warner Bros. announced Jesse Eisenberg has been cast as Lex Luthor in the "Batman/Superman" movie.

Jeremy Irons has also been picked to play Alfred.

The news of Eisenberg in the Luthor role is a bit of a surprise. Of all the names that have been tossed out there for the part — from Denzel Washington to Joaquin Phoenix— the "Social Network" actor's name hasn't come up.

As much of a surprise as his casting may be, Eisenberg starred in last year's summer blockbuster "Now You See Me." The magic movie starring Morgan Freeman and Woody Harrelson made $351.7 million worldwide. In Warner Bros.' mind, Eisenberg definitely has the appeal of a younger audience.

Earlier, "Fast and Furious" actress Gal Gadot was recently cast in the superhero film as Wonder Woman.

Eisenberg and Irons will join returning stars Henry Cavill and Amy Adams along with Ben Affleck who was cast as the Caped Crusader last year.

The "Batman / Superman" movie was originally set for a July 2015 release date but just pushed back from July 2015 to May 2016.

Here's the press release from Warner Bros.:

BURBANK, CA, January 31, 2014 – Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that Jesse Eisenberg has been set to star as Lex Luthor and Jeremy Irons will play Alfred in the upcoming Zack Snyder untitled Superman/Batman film. The dual announcement was made today by Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production, and Sue Kroll, President, Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.

Snyder stated, “Lex Luthor is often considered the most notorious of Superman’s rivals, his unsavory reputation preceding him since 1940. What’s great about Lex is that he exists beyond the confines of the stereotypical nefarious villain. He’s a complicated and sophisticated character whose intellect, wealth and prominence position him as one of the few mortals able to challenge the incredible might of Superman. Having Jesse in the role allows us to explore that interesting dynamic, and also take the character in some new and unexpected directions.”

The director added, “As everyone knows, Alfred is Bruce Wayne’s most trusted friend, ally and mentor, a noble guardian and father figure. He is an absolutely critical element in the intricate infrastructure that allows Bruce Wayne to transform himself into Batman. It is an honor to have such an amazingly seasoned and gifted actor as Jeremy taking on the important role of the man who mentors and guides the guarded and nearly impervious façade that encapsulates Bruce Wayne.”

Eisenberg received Academy Award®, Golden Globe Award, Screen Actors Guild Award® and BAFTA Award nominations for his starring role as Mark Zuckerberg in David Fincher’s “The Social Network.” He also starred in Woody Allen’s “To Rome with Love” and Louis Letterier’s “Now You See Me.” He next appears in “The Double” and “Night Moves.”

Irons won the Academy Award® for his portrayal of Claus von Bülow in “Reversal of Fortune.” His work in the film also garnered him a Golden Globe Award. He won an Emmy Award and a Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award® for his performance in the TV miniseries “Elizabeth I,” opposite Helen Mirren, and recently starred on the small screen as Rodrigo Borgia in Neil Jordan’s highly acclaimed Showtime series “The Borgias,” for which Irons earned a Golden Globe nomination. He was recently nominated for a SAG Award® for the PBS Great Performances television miniseries “The Hollow Crown,” for his performance as Henry IV.

Snyder’s film stars Henry Cavill, reprising his role as Superman/Clark Kent, Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne, and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman/Diana Prince. The film also reunites “Man of Steel” stars Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane.

The new film is currently being written by Chris Terrio, from a screenplay by David S. Goyer. Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder are producing, with Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Wesley Coller, David S. Goyer and Geoff Johns serving as executive producers.

The film is set to open worldwide on May 6, 2016, and is based on Superman characters created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster, Batman characters created by Bob Kane, and Wonder Woman created by William Moulton Marston, appearing in comic books published by DC Entertainment.

back to the future

For "Back To The Future" fans that always wanted to see Marty and the time-traveling DeLorean on stage, set your watches (and flux capacitors) for next year.

Universal Stage Productions and the film's director Robert Zemeckis have announced that the 1985 classic starring Michael J. Fox is currently being developed into a musical.

The musical is planned to premiere on London's West End next year to align with the film's 30th anniversary before hopefully making its way to Broadway.

"The 'Back to the Future' Musical is a project that Bob Zemeckis and I have been exploring for almost ten years," the film's producer Bob Gale said in the announcement. "We're thrilled to be at last in partnership with a creative and producing team that will create a show that is true to the spirit of the film."

The show will include new music by the film's composer, Alan Silvestri along with songs from Huey Lewis & The News and Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Goode" which played a major role in the film.

"We intend to use music from the movie along with brand new songs," Gale went on to say. "We can't think of a better way to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the film."

'SNL' Is Going To Be Awesome This Weekend Judging By These Melissa McCarthy Promos

How To Live-Stream The Super Bowl For Free If You're Not Near A TV

MetLife Stadium

The Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos will kick-off Superbowl 48 at 6:30 this Sunday night.

If you're not near a TV, don't make the mistake of thinking you'll just be able to get a pirated stream of the game on your computer or tablet.

The NFL has restricted the platforms the game will be on, so if you can't watch the live broadcast you'll need to know exactly where to go to see the game.

Fox Sports will be the primary live stream source of this year's game through the Fox Sports Go app.

On Sunday, the live stream will start at 10am ET with Fox's Super Bowl kickoff show.

At 2pm ET, the pregame show will start streaming to mobile devices while the network will stream the post game and additional content around 10pm ET. Here is where to look:

  • You can download Fox's free free iPad app here.
  • You'll be able to watch the game on your computer at FoxSportsGo.com as well.
  • Shifting to larger screens, Xbox One owners can use that console's NFL app to watch the game on TV.
  • Also, Verizon mobile and FIOS customers can subscribe to NFL Mobile to watch the game. This app is available on iPhone, Android, Windows and Blackberry. Unfortunately, you need to pay 5$ a month for a subscription.

The NFL has restricted the ability for people to stream video from inside the stadium so it'll be hard finding a bootleg copy. Plus, Fox is simulcasting the show for everyone in the U.S. and in Spain so it will be relatively easy for someone to watch both teams face off on Sunday.

To see the rest of the apps available for the game, check out NFL Mobile.

JOB OF THE WEEK: Director, Strategic Planning

Here's Why Bruno Mars Is Not Being Paid To Perform At The Super Bowl Halftime Show

$

Bruno Mars

Come Sunday, Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers will join the ranks of Madonna, Beyoncé, U2, and Paul McCartney as part of an exclusive list of musicians who have performed during the Super Bowl halftime show.

"We just got that phone call and they started scoping me out," 28-year-old "Grenade" singer Mars told Forbes of how he got the coveted gig. "They were coming to my shows and they popped the question. It’s one of those things where I feel like it’s early on in my career, but … it’s definitely something on a bucket list. It’s the biggest stage ever. It’s something you’re not gonna say no to."

It's not something a musician says no to, despite not getting paid.

"We do not pay," NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy told Forbes last year. "We cover all expenses associated with the performance."

The accompanying expenses, however, can add up.

Travel, lodging, setup, fees for backup dancers and musicians, pyrotechnics, glam squads, etc., can all balloon to millions of dollars.

But Mars’ big payment will come in the form of exposure.

"He’ll be playing what amounts to a 12-minute commercial for himself, which should boost sales for concert tickets, albums and merchandise," reports Forbes, who confirmed Mars, like his predecessors, will not be paid for this year's Super Bowl. "For context, a 30-second ad costs about $4 million this year."

Marc Ganis, president of the consultancy Sportscorp, Ltd., further explains, "This is the kind of exposure that entertainers would give their right arm for … they could do 20 Leno and Letterman appearances and still not reach that [kind of] audience."

But after Beyoncé's mindblowing Destiny's Child reunion performance during last year's Super Bowl halftime show, why did the NFL choose Mars, a relative newbie?

"One of the answers is there aren’t that many acts like that," says Ganis. "And the NFL has been going through most of them. You don’t want to recycle. If you’re going to look outside that limited sphere, Bruno Mars is a pretty good selection."

The NFL also trusts that Mars won't have any wardrobe malfunctions.

Ganis explains that Mars’ performance at the 2011 NBA All-Star Game pre-show "earned him a reputation in the sports world as a reliable entertainer, something that’s crucial to the NFL after halftime mishaps like Janet Jackson’s infamous 'Nipplegate' incident" in 2004.

The Super Bowl Halftime Show Used To Be A Bizarre, Cultish Nightmare

$

For the past decade or so, America has gotten used to having PG 13- (and R-) rated musical acts perform during the Super Bowl's Half Time show.

They're not always to everyone's musical tastes, and the shows can occasionally fall flat.

It was used to be worse.

So, so much worse.

The principal culprit was a group called Up With People. Formed in 1965 as part of the bygone global Moral Rearmament Movement, the traveling song-and-dance troupe was said by some to have a "creepy-weird cultish" and can best be described as what would have happened if a secular Ned Flanders' entire family had a picnic on the 50 yard line.

Despite barely qualifying as such, this was the halftime show entertainment four times between 1976 and 1986.

Here they are performing in 1976. It is unbelievable.

Six years later, they continued to haunt America's dreams.

The UWP reign of terror ended the year The Chicago Bears won the Super Bowl. There are no coincidences in life.

1985 featured the Air Force's "Tops In Blue" and a guy flying in a jet pack. Yes, those are U.S. Air Force enlistees riding a unicycle and jumping on a trampoline.

Disney has been the other major Halftime Show producer, having put on six. Here's their 1987 performance.

Finally things started getting a bit more mainstream — but no less awful. Here's an aging, be-jhericurled Chubby Checker lipsynching to "Let's Twist Again" while members of the USC and SDSU marching bands dance and play around him.

It took until 1993 — 26 years after the first Super Bowl was played, before things got awesome (shout out to Jennifer Batten):

All The Doomsday Weather Forecasts For The Super Bowl Were Wrong

metlife stadium super bowl snow

There's been a lot of bitterly cold weather forecasts for the Super Bowl this Sunday, but things are starting to look up.

Even though this weekend will mark the first outdoor Super Bowl game played in a cold-weather city since the NFL was created 93 years ago, it's probably not going to be the coldest Super Bowl ever.

The weather on Sunday is actually shaping up to be pleasant compared to the polar vortex and unusually freezing temperatures that have been ravaging the northeast recently. The weather predictor forecast.io is projecting that as of now the temperature will be around 41 degrees at kickoff. The coldest Super Bowl so far happened back in 1972 in New Orleans when it was 39 degrees at kickoff.

According to meteorologist Eric Holthaus, the snowstorm that just passed to the north of the stadium was followed with a southern breeze that will surround the area with insulating clouds, creating a pocket of warm air just in time for the weekend.

Climatologists from the New Jersey Weather & Climate Network have put together this weather tracker that will monitor weather around MetLife stadium and even includes hour-by-hour weather predictions during the game itself.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is showing that a snowstorm is likely this weekend, but should hit safely north of MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. Here's what weather.com is showing for Super Bowl Sunday:

super bowl weatherSo even though this is the first outdoor game in a cold-weather city, there likely won't be any snow, rain, or major winds, and the temperatures, though cold, will be significantly higher than what forecasters were originally predicting.

Netflix CEO Confesses He Tried To Sell The Company To Blockbuster ... But Blockbuster Wasn't Interested (NFLX)

blockbuster store closing

The New Yorker's Ken Auletta wrote a profile of Netflix CEO Reed Hastings and revealed that the now-shuttered video chain Blockbuster missed out on a great chance to purchase the fledgling company in 2000.

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings flew out to Dallas that spring to meet with Blockbuster execs, who had 7,700 stores open at the time.

Netflix was losing money, had only 300,000 subscribers and relied on the U.S. postal service to deliver its movies to customers.

Reed wanted to form an alliance. Essentially, Netflix was willing to become Blockbuster's own streaming service. Hastings was going to sell a 49% stake in the company and take on the Blockbuster name ... but they decided to pass on it.

The 2000 tech bubble bursting was still fresh in Blockbuster's mind. And the impending threat of digital media was not yet obvious — most Americans still used dial-up access at home.

Fast forward to 2004, and Blockbuster's downward spiral began. The conglomerate had tried to launch its own subscription service but it was too late. By 2005, Netflix had 4.2 million subscribers and membership was steadily growing. Also, Hollywood studios began offering Netflix more movies for its library, and that hurt Blockbuster's video archive revenue.

Reed admitted to Auletta that Netflix would have been in trouble if Blockbuster launched their service two years earlier.

Two Hilarious GIFs From The 1985 Space-Themed Super Bowl

$

Today, I learned from my co-worker Rob Wile about the crazy and cultish history of the Super Bowl Half Time show

beige tbiOne of those halftime shows, from the 1985 Super Bowl, also happened to be space-themed.

That makes sense, since the '80s were the height of our manned space program. According to NASA:

During the 1980s, Kennedy Space Center made a critical shift in focus. Instead of moving relatively quickly from one human spaceflight program to another, as in the fast-paced 1960s and 1970s, the spaceport's workforce and facilities now were geared toward preparing and launching a revolutionary new spacecraft that would further advance our capabilities in orbit: the space shuttle.

Nine shuttle missions flew in 1985 alone.

But those amazing achievements don't make this half time show any less hilarious. Here are some amazing GIFs of the act.

Pop star Katy Perry made Twitter history Friday, becoming the first person ever with more than 50 million followers on the microblogging website.

Twitter Counter, a service for tracking Twitter usage, said Perry had picked up tens of thousands of followers since Thursday, as she roared her way to 50,025,667.

Perry, 29, whose "Dark Horse" tops the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart this week, opted to say nothing Friday about her online achievement.

Instead she tweeted thanks to Madonna for having invited her to curate the pop diva's Art for Freedom human rights project during the month of January.

Teen idol Justin Bieber dethroned Lady Gaga as the most-followed Twitter user in January 2013, but ceded the top spot to Perry in November.

On Friday, Bieber -- due in court on Valentine's Day over alleged drunk driving and illegal drag racing in Florida -- had 49,230,470 followers, followed by President Barack Obama with 41,219,748.

Lady Gaga, in fourth place with 41,025,492 followers, made Twitter history when she became the first to claim 20 million followers -- just under two years ago, in March 2012.

Perry's current album "Prism" entered the Billboard 200 chart at number one upon its release in October. Her goth-themed rendition of "Dark Horse" was a highlight of Sunday's Grammy awards.

Earlier this week, Microsoft sent around an email asking fans to “ditch” their PlayStation 3 consoles. In return, Microsoft would offer customers $100 off an Xbox One.

Sony didn’t respond to the announcement; however, a fan on Neogaf.com— a discussion board for gamers — took it upon himself to make a fake announcement from the company. It’s brilliant.

Here are Microsoft's ad and the fake one below.

We first saw this on Machinima.

While Microsoft also offered the same deal if people turned in an Xbox 360 E or Xbox 360 S, the announcement seemed like a desperate move from the company who is currently trailing behind Sony in sales for its next-gen console.

As of December 28, Sony has sold more than 4 million PS4s. Microsoft announced in earlier this month they have sold over 3 million Xbox One consoles.

The deal continues until March 2.

Microsoft’s ad says they plan to recycle the PS3s.

Early iPod Engineer Says Running A Company Is A Lot Like Being A DJ

stir founder jp labrosse

JP Labrosse, founder of Stir Kinetic Desk, has been a DJ and a percussionist for about 30 years.

"In a lot of ways, great DJs have some of the same great skills as leaders of companies," Labrosse tells Business Insider. "DJs are experts in putting together the right pieces that get people moving together symphonically."

As a musician, working as one of the first 35 employees on Apple's iPod engineering team was the perfect fit.

"Having the opportunity to work with a team of people and reinventing how music gets to people and the ability to give people access to a soundtrack for any moment in their lives was a really attractive part of being able to work at Apple back then," Labrosse says.

Labrosse eventually became the iPod engineering team leader, but had previously reported to Andy Hodge, who was employee number two at the iPod division.

"He interestingly had been an IDEO guy who had happened to have done work on height adjustable desks with steel way back then," Labrosse says. "I think Andy was part of the group that was actively using height-adjustable desks at Apple at the time."

Since leaving Apple in 2005, Labrosse says, he's always tried to find a way to use a height-adjustable desk at his job. Enter the Stir Kinetic Desk, a $4,000 smart desk that learns your sitting habits and encourages you to stand more throughout the day.

That's because sitting all day is actually really bad for you, and can even be deadly.

"This was long before any of the data had started getting attention and showing that it's not healthy to sit as much as people often do," Labrosse says.

Stir, of course, is not the most affordable product out on the market. So given its high price point, it's pretty impressive that Stir sold out of its first batch of desks that are shipping this month.

The 11 Best Super Bowl Halftime Shows Of All Time

$

bruno mars

The Super Bowl isn't just about football.

There are the hilarious commercials (paging Jerry Seinfeld), the Puppy Bowl, and of course, the mind-blowing, music-filled halftime shows.

"Locked Out of Heaven" singer Bruno Mars, and iconic rock group Red Hot Chili Peppers, are on tap to entertain us between the game's first and second half. It's an odd combination of musicians, but we're excited nonetheless.

To get ready for the big show, we're taking a look back at some of the most memorable Super Bowl halftime shows of all time.

1. Super Bowl XLVII, 2013 — Beyoncé reunites with Destiny's Child

During last year's halftime show, the Queen B took her power vocals and hot dance moves to the main stage with hits like "Run the World (Girls)" and "Love on Top." To put the cherry on top, Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland joined her for a short but incredibly sweet Destiny's Child reunion.

2. Super Bowl XLV, 2011 — The Black Eyed Peas, Usher, Slash

A performance noteworthy not necessarily for its out-of-this-world vocal performances, but instead, for its choreography. Hundreds of dancers in glow-in-the-dark costumes filled the field. Fergie's rendition of "Sweet Child O' Mine" was pretty good, but there's nothing quite like watching Slash on his guitar.

3. Super Bowl XLIII, 2007 — Prince

The eclectic funk and R&B musician performed a mix of original songs ("Purple Rain") and covers ("All Along The Watchtower"), tearing it up with guitar solos, and making the show slightly risqué by showcasing a suggestive silhouette.

4. Super Bowl XL, 2006 — The Rolling Stones

The Rolling Stones once again proved their title as one of the greatest rock bands of all time with their 2006 halftime show at Ford Field in Detroit. Mick Jagger was 62 at the time, but sounded just like he did the band's heyday. Kicking around the stage, the Stones rocked out to "Start Me Up," "Rough Justice," and "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction."

5. Super Bowl XXXIX, 2005 — Paul McCartney

After a dramatic wardrobe incident a year earlier, organizers called on Paul McCartney to get things back to normal. The Beatles star got the crowd going with "Drive My Car," "Get Back," "Hey Jude," and the heart pounding James Bond theme song "Live and Let Die."

6. Super Bowl XXXVIII, 2004 — Justin Timberlake, Janet Jackson, Nelly, P. Diddy, Kid Rock

Things started off innocently enough, with Janet Jackson singing her hit "All For You," followed by songs from P. Diddy, Nelly, and Kid Rock. But when pop star Justin Timberlake joined Janet to sing "Rock Your Body," viewers got a little more than they bargained for — a wardrobe malfunction that will live in infamy.

7. Super Bowl XXXVII, 2003 — Shania Twain, No Doubt, Sting

Girl Power was the name of the game in 2003. First Shania Twain rocked out to "Man! I Feel Like A Woman" in a bedazzled getup, then Gwen Stefani did some pushups on a platform as a segue into "Just a Girl" with No Doubt. And then? She teamed up with Sting for a pretty epic rendition of "Message in a Bottle."

8. Super Bowl XXXVI, 2002 — U2

As the first Super Bowl halftime show post-9/11, the 2002 show had a different feel to it. which Irish rock band U2 responded with a sentimental, respectful, and absolutely powerful performance. Bono started it off with "Beautiful Day" and "MLK," and finished the set with "Where The Streets Have No Name." During U2's final song, the names of 9/11 victims scrolled on a screen behind the stage. And when Bono opened up his jacket to show an American flag lining, the crowd lost it.

9. Super Bowl XXXV, 2001 — Aerosmith, 'N Sync, Britney Spears, Mary J. Blige, Nelly

We're willing to say that 2001 had the most interesting, and perhaps best line-ups of all time, with Aerosmith, 'N Sync, Nelly, Mary J. Blige, and Britney Spears all taking the stage. 'N Sync and Britney Spears were at the top of their game at the time, and Steven Tyler's vocal chords are made for arenas. With a set list that included 'N Sync's "Bye, Bye, Bye" and Aerosmith's "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing,"  the gang put on quite a show. Britney Spears and Nelly joined in at the end for a "Walk This Way" finale that tore the roof down.

10. Super Bowl XXX, 1996 — Diana Ross

Motown Queen Diana Ross headlined the 1996 Super Bowl halftime show, performing a medley of eight songs, including hits “You Keep Me Hangin’ On,” “You Can’t Hurry Love,” and “Why Do Fools Fall in Love." With dancers, balloons, raised platforms, and five outfit changes, Ross put on quite a show. She ended it in the same fashion with the best exit of all time — flying off in a helicopter.

11. Super Bowl XXVII, 1993  — Michael Jackson

Before Jackson's 1993 performance, Super Bowl halftimes were pretty much just marching bands. The King of Pop didn't waste any time mixing things up. He shot up onto stage, froze in place for almost two minutes, and then jumped into "Jam" followed by "Billie Jean." Add in the moonwalk and infamous hat flip, and Jackson single handedly changed the Super Bowl halftime show game.

Two recent events illustrate that most people do not protect their data very well online.

On October 4, Adobe reported that its systems had been penetrated by attackers who  stole 38 million user accounts and passwords.

BBC reports that "123456" was the most popular password among the compromised Adobe users. About 1.9 million people used the sequence.

This week security experts from Spiderlab said they discovered a trove 2 million stolen social media passwords from all over the world in a criminal cyber network and analyzed that.

Spiderlab reported that "there were more terrible passwords than excellent ones, more bad passwords than good, and the majority, as usual, is somewhere in between in the Medium category."

After comparing it the 2006, Spiderlab concluded that "people still choose comfort over security."

Here are the 20 most popular passwords in the hands of the Adobe hack (Spiderlab's top 10 is similar). Users with these sequences are essentially inviting hackers to take data in very litte time:

  • 123456
  • 123456789
  • password
  • admin
  • 12345678
  • qwerty
  • 1234567
  • 111111
  • photoshop
  • 123123
  • 1234567890
  • 000000
  • abc123
  • 1234
  • adobe1
  • macromedia
  • azerty
  • iloveyou
  • aaaaaa
  • 654321

As BI's Julie Bort noted: "If you recognize your favorite password here, it's really time to pick something else." Here are some tips on choosing strong passwords.

Stewie from the comedy show "Family Guy" apparently makes a creepy appearance in Candy Crush Saga, according to the Candy Crush saga wiki.

There's an Easter Egg in the game that says "Divine" in what is believed to be the voice of Stewie. But in our opinion, it sounds more like Mr. Burns from "The Simpsons."

"Due to the random occurance without warning, its rarity and the somewhat sinister nature of the voice, many players who encounter the easter egg find it very scary and creepy," Candy Crush Saga wiki reads. "It is not scary to watch on a video, but when it happens ingame, it has been known to be extremely scary, and as it is a very rare occurance, by the time one encounters it for the second time, it is just as scary.

There are a few different voices you hear in the game. But the one you hear most often is widely believed to be Mr. Toffee's voice. (Business Insider hopes to hear back from King early next week regarding this matter).

He has seven sayings, all of which are said in deep, yet pleasant voice: "Sweet," "Tasty," "Delicious," "Divine," and "Sugar Crush."

There's also another voice, which is isn't as deep, when you unlock the next level and board a train. You also hear it when you need to unlock the next episode.

Check out the weird "divine" voice below.
