Disney just premiered another new trailer for its live-action "Sleeping Beauty" film "Maleficent" during the Grammys.

The film features Angelina Jolie as the villainess as the story is told from her point of view.

Forget the movie for a minute though. We're digging Lana del Rey's take on the classic tune "Once Upon A Dream" more. You can get it now free on Google Play (sorry iTunes users).

"Maleficent" is in theaters May 30.

The 7 Best Moments From Sunday's Episode Of 'Sherlock'

$

sherlockWarning: There are spoilers ahead.

We’ve just finished watching the second episode of “Sherlock” and it may have been the most revealing of our favorite detective.

Focusing on John Watson’s wedding, it was one of the first times we saw a more human side to the typically pragmatic Mr. Holmes.

We witnessed him let loose in a bar and even bust a few moves on the dance floor after being a bundle of nerves trying to figure out the right speech for his best friend's wedding.

The series returned to record ratings on the BBC at the beginning of the year overseas and saw a rise in viewership upon its return to PBS last week in the states.

Here are our favorite moments from the episode.

1. Sherlock's wedding speech to John may have been one of the best parts of the series ever.

sherlock wedding speechTell us you didn’t shed a tear.

It's not often we see the rigid, narrow-minded Sherlock show much sign of human emotion, let alone a softer side. When he first began his Best Man speech for John we feared it would be an awkward ramble about how John was lucky to have Sherlock.

However, (after some rambling) he surprised us with this sentimental tribute that made us want to grab a Kleenex.

“The point I’m trying to make is that I am the most unpleasant, rude, ignorant, and all around obnoxious asshole that anyone could possibly have the misfortune to meet. I am dismissive of the virtuous, unaware of the beautiful, and uncomprehending in the face of the happy. So if I didn’t understand I was being asked to be the best man, it is because I never really expected to ever be anybody’s best friend … certainly not the best friend of the bravest and kindest and wisest human being I have ever had the good fortune of knowing. John, I am a ridiculous man, redeemed only by the warmth and constancy of your friendship, but as I’m apparently your best friend I cannot congratulate you on your choice of companion. Actually, now, I can. Mary, when I say you deserve this man it is the highest compliment of which I am capable. John, you have endured war, and injury, and tragic loss — so sorry again about that last one — so know this: Today, you sit here between the woman you have made your wife and the man you have saved. In short, the two people who love you most in all this world. And, I know I speak for Mary as well when I say we will never let you down and we have a lifetime ahead to prove that.”

2. Drunk Sherlock and Watson trying to solve a case.

sherlock john drunk

During his Best Man speech, Sherlock recalls a time he and Watson went out drinking that resulted in this:

dont tell me sherlock drunk

 and this:

sherlock watson play game

Normally, Sherlock's thoughts appear clear to us in text on screen while crime solving. Drunk, they appeared out of focus and in gibberish.

3. We get introduced to Sherlock's mind palace ...

This is where all of his intimate and complex thinking takes place.

... and get to see "the woman" one more time.

4. This epic glass drop.

5. Sherlock dancing.

This was pretty unexpected.

Sherlock Dances season 3 ep 2

6. Sherlock plays the violin.

violin sherlocksherlock violin

7. We learn the reason behind the episode's title, "The signs of three."

Sherlock deduces Mary is pregnant after noticing she had an increased appetite, an altered taste perception, and was ill earlier.

--

Our main problem with the episode, while delightful, is that the episode relied way too much on coincidence. During Sherlock’s wedding toast, he tells the story of an unsolvable crime. As the episode unfolds, we learn that the one crime story he decides to share with the wedding service happens to still be playing out at the wedding.

Other things to take note of:

Sherlock’s charming relationship with the usher and finding the faults in every man the maid of honor is interested in courting.

'I, Frankenstein' Bombs At Theaters — Here's Your Box-Office Roundup

$
0
0

frankenstein aaron eckhart

After awful reviews, “I, Frankenstein” bombed at the box office, debuting to well under $10 million opening weekend.

The film was expected to make nearly double that figure, but that’s mostly because reviews were comparing it to “Underworld,” a film which benefitted from a female lead in Kate Beckinsale.

This film had the star power of Aaron Eckhart. Other than a role in “Thank You for Smoking,” he’s best known for playing Harvey Dent / Two Face in “The Dark Knight.”

Instead, it was another winner weekend for Universal as Kevin Hart and Mark Wahlberg’s films “Ride Along” and “Lone Survivor” continue their runs at theaters.

For Disney, “Frozen” is continuing to be a behemoth since its November release. The film has officially made more than “The Lion King.” With a sing-along version headed for theaters the animated picture may reach $1 billion by the time its run ends.

Out of the top ten this week is Warner Bros.’ Best Picture Oscar nominee “Her.” The Spike Jonze film has made $19.7 million worldwide.

Here are this week’s winners and losers in Hollywood.

10. Fox’s horror flick “Devil’s Due” rounds out the top ten this week with $2.8 million. The film has made $18.7 million worldwide, costing an estimated $7 million to produce.

9. Oscar-nominated “The Wolf of Wall Street” brings in another $5 million. The Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese movie has now made $175.2 million at theaters. The film cost Paramount a big $100 million.

8. Weinstein Company’s “August: Osage County” just edged out “Wall Street” with a little over $5 million. The dramedy which picked up Oscar nods for both Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep has made $35 million at theaters.

7. “American Hustle” moved down one spot this weekend with $7.1 million. The Sony picture from David O. Russell has made $162.4 million worldwide.

6. Lionsgate’s ill-fated “I, Frankenstein” opened much lower than expected with $8.3 million. The Aaron Eckhart film based on a graphic novel of the same name suffered from a staggering plot and poor marketing that didn’t do anything for the movie.

5. Even “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit” beat out “Frankenstein” with $8.8 million in its second week. The next film in the Tom Clancy series may have only earned $30 million at home, but “Jack Ryan” is performing better overseas. The estimated $60 million film has now made $76.7 million worldwide.

4. “Frozen” has been crushing it at theaters since its Thanksgiving release and it shows no signs of stopping after another weekend of $9 million. The film should continue to bring in even more money since another sing-along version of the movie is expected in theaters. “Frozen” has made more than $810 million so far.

3. It’s not often that you see two kid films performing well at the same time in theaters, but “The Nut Job” manages to stay ahead of “Frozen” with $12.3 million in its second weekend. A sequel was just announced for the film.

2. “Lone Survivor” featuring Mark Wahlberg edged out the two animated pictures with another $12.6 million. The Universal film based on a true story has now made $93.6 million at theaters.

1. Taking the weekend for the second week in a row is Kevin Hart’s “Ride Along” with a big $21.2 million. The film had a huge $41 million opening weekend and has already tripled its estimated $25 million production budget earning $75.4 million.

Prince Is Suing His Facebook Fans For $22 Million

prince pop singer

The artist formerly known as an unpronounceable symbol is suing his Facebook fans, reports TorrentFreak.

He's specifically taking aim at 22 of them for posting Facebook links to live concerts and recordings. Now each is being sued for $1 million, making this a $22 million lawsuit in total.

Only two defendants' names are known for certain in the case — the rest are John/Jane Doe or known only by their online usernames.

Prince is fairly litigious when it comes to his music. According to TorrentFreak:

Prince has a long tradition of suing anyone who dares to use his material without permission, but doesn’t always carry through on his threats. A 2007 effort to sue The Pirate Bay went nowhere. This new lawsuit is likely to go much further.

Apropos of nothing, here's a video in which Jimmy Fallon tells a surreal and funny story about what it's like to play ping pong against Prince:

Everything You Need To Know About Kacey Musgraves — The Girl Who Beat Out Taylor Swift For Best Country Album

$
0
0

kacey musgraves grammys

Kacey Musgraves may not have won any awards for her colorful, bedazzled dress at the Grammys last night, but she did make waves by beating out Taylor Swift for Best Country Album and Best Country Song of the year.

If you've never heard of the country singer, here's a quick crash course on what you need to know about the Grammy winner.

Expect to hear a lot more from her in the future.

1. She's been around since 2008.

Musgraves stepped onto the country scene in '08 releasing her first self-titled indie album a year earlier. However, she didn't get any big recognition until last year when two singles "Apologize" and "See You Again" were released along with her Grammy-winning album, "Same Trailer Different Park."

This marked the first year the country singer was up for Grammys.

Musgraves co-wrote every song on the album.

2. She's older than Taylor Swift.

Don't let that kiddie frock fool you. At 25, Musgraves is a half a year older than Swift.

3. These are her most-listened-to songs.

Not familiar with Musgraves' music? These are her most-listened-to songs on Spotify:

"Merry Go 'Round"
The song was named number one by Billboard for Best Country Singles of 2013.
"Follow Your Arrow"
"Blowin' Smoke"
"Silver Lining"
"Keep it to Yourself"

You've probably heard the first song and didn't realize it.

4. If you watch "Nashville" on ABC you may have heard a song co-written by Musgraves.

Musgraves and artist Trent Dabbs co-wrote "Undermine" which was featured on the show and sung on air by Hayden Panettiere and Charles Esten.

5. She's a Texan.

The singer calls the small town of Golden, Texas her home.

6. She's been playing guitar since the age of 12.

But she wrote her first song, "Notice Me," at the age of nine.

7. She was on "Nashville Star."

Musgraves finished in seventh place during season 5 of the USA network series.

8. She seems like a pretty normal, silly, down to earth girl.

She posts photos with her family and pets on Instagram and Vine.

Macklemore Texted Kendrick Lamar And Apologized For Winning A Grammy Last Night

The 56th Annual Grammy Awards took place last night and Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' “The Heist” beat out Kendrick Lamar’s critically-acclaimed “Good Kid, m.A.A.d. City” for best rap album.

Not only were rap fans displeased with this news, but it seems Macklemore himself felt it necessary to text an apology to Lamar, and then take a screen shot of that text and post it to Instagram.

We first read about this on BroBible.

On Instagram, Macklemore captioned the photo,

“My text to Kendrick after the show. He deserved best rap album… I’m honored and completely blown away to win anything much less 4 Grammys. But in that category, he should have won IMO. And that’s taking nothing away from The Heist. Just giving GKMC it’s proper respect.. With that being said, thank you to the fans. You’re the reason we were on that stage tonight. And to play Same Love on that platform was a career highlight. The greatest honor of all. That’s what this is about. Progress and art. Thank you. #grammys”

Here's the text. We imagine Lamar responded with a simple "K."

John Stamos' 'Full House' Co-Stars Keep Him From His Lady In This Dannon Oikos Super Bowl Ad

John Stamos and a hot date are into some kinky snacking in Dannon's Super Bowl commercial for its Oikos Greek yogurt, but his "Full House" co-stars Bob Saget and Dave Coulier step in to keep things from getting too steamy.

The commercial starts almost identically to last year's, with Stamos flirting over a cup of yogurt. After his date licks some yogurt from his lips, Stamos "accidentally" spills some onto his lap (classic Jesse Katsopolis move).

That's when Saget and Coulier arrive like a pair of overbearing moms ready to clean up his mess:

Young & Rubicam's Barcelona branch, Vinizius, produced the commercial.

It gained over a million views on YouTube in just two days.

"The Spill" is going up against Chobani's "Ransacked" ad in the Super Bowl's Greek yogurt battle.

Theater Owners Pushing For Movie Trailers To Be No Longer Than Two Minutes

$
0

Julia Louis Dreyfus James Gandolfini Enough Said Movie Theater

If you're tired of really long (spoiler-y) movie trailers that harbor on the three-minute mark, that may soon be a thing of the past.

The National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO) — no, not that NATO— released in-theater marketing guidelines Monday calling for shorter trailers and a specific timeline for when movie marketing can occur.

In a nutshell, NATO is calling for two-minute long trailers that can't be shown more than five months ahead of the film's release date.

This isn't the first time NATO has proposed shorter movie trailers. The argument for shorter movie trailers came about last year after theater owners received complaints about trailers being "too long" and giving "away too much of the plot."

Voluntary guidelines currently in place by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) limit a trailer to two-and-a-half minutes. However, each studio is allowed one movie to exceed that limit per year.

Similarly, these new guidelines aren't being strictly enforced. Instead, they're "voluntary" guidelines that will go into effect starting October 2014.

Basically, while trailers may start to ebb toward a shorter time, there's nothing stopping Peter Jackson from putting out another 3-minute "Hobbit" trailer.

Terry Crews tie around head Muppets Toyota Super Bowl ad

Toyota employs actor Terry Crews, the cast of the Muppets, and an insanely catchy jingle to pitch its new Highlander SUV in an ad that will run during this year's Super Bowl.

The 60-second commercial was published on Toyota's YouTube page Tuesday morning.

In it, Crews is driving along a deserted highway when he comes across a colorful bus broken down by the side of the road. When he pulls over to ask if the bus passengers need a hand, a gang of Muppets floods out, climbs into Crews' Highlander, and takes the "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" star on an adventure he can't refuse:

Animal loads his drum set into the Highlander's trunk, and Dr. Teeth takes over the wheel as the Muppets crew plays a catchy tune with the tagline: "We ain't got no room for boring."

The group then uses the commandeered Highlander to crash a senior citizens' bingo game and turn it into a party, as Crews looks on helplessly. But once the Muppets leave the bingo game for their next adventure, Crews changes his mind, and starts singing along and acting goofy, himself.

By the time Crews returns to his home, he has completely embraced the Muppets way of life, popping out of the Highlander's sunroof shirtless and wearing his tie around his head.

When Crews' neighbor, Kermit the Frog, asks if he's okay, Crews replies frantically, "There were singing vegetables! And chickens!"

The ad was made by the agency Saatchi & Saatchi Los Angeles, and will air during this year's Super Bowl on Feb. 2.

Netflix is giving customers the ability to turn off the post-play feature, which is found on most of its apps, according to the company's support page.

You can now turn off the feature that automatically plays another episode after you finishing watching one by going into the settings.

We first saw this on TechHive, which notes that Netflix promised this feature in October 2013 but officially activated it on Friday. Also, you will need to shut this feature off for every single profile under your streaming plan.

Here's how you turn it off:

Sign in to Netflix and scroll over to the right. Click Your Account in the drop-down menu.

Another week, another missed opportunity for Nintendo.

Yesterday afternoon, Japanese newspaper Nikkei reported that Nintendo plans to release game trailers and mini games on mobile devices like the iPhone and Android phones, according to Kotaku.

If people enjoy playing the mini games, then they would go on to buy the full game for their Nintendo console, the report says.

Nintendo spoke up this morning, however, and quickly dashed everyone's dreams of Mario on the little screen.

The company released a statement to Engadget, saying that "Nintendo's intention is not to make Nintendo software available on smart devices and as such, we can confirm that there are no plans to offer minigames on smartphone devices."

Sorry, Nintendo fans. Looks like if you want to play Nintendo games, you're going to have to get a Nintendo game system.

Jaguar's Super Bowl Ad Explains Why All The Best Movie Villains Are British

Jaguar super bowl ad shot of Tom Hiddleston

Jaguar's recently released Super Bowl commercial uses a trio of British actors and the cinematography of director Tom Hooper to delve into why all of the best movie villains come from across the pond.

In the 60-second ad, actors Sir Ben Kingsley, Tom Hiddleston, and Mark Strong speak to the camera and posit that Brits make the best bad guys because "we're more focused," "we have a certain style," and "maybe we just sound right."

Along the way, the men use a fancy helicopter and two swerving Jaguar F-Type Coupes to meet at a high-tech command center in London. "Oh yes," Kingsley remarks at the end of the ad. "It's good to be bad."

The commercial features an ominous original soundtrack that was composed and conducted by Alexandre Desplat, who worked with Hooper on "The King's Speech," and recorded by The London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road.

The "Good To Be Bad" campaign is being run by Jaguar's creative agency, Spark 44, and its media agency, Mindshare, which hope to cast the brand as an edgy British outsider challenging mainstays like Porsche and Mercedes-Benz in the U.S. luxury market.

The campaign has also included a digital promotion aspect through a partnership between Jaguar and Gawker Media's content studio. Gawker created a separate blog, called Good To Be Bad, that features sponsored content from Jaguar, original work from Gawker's content studio, and posts shared from Gawker editorial blogs like Gizmodo and Lifehacker.

The posts focus on general villainy, with titles like "A Guide to World Domination in 2014" and "Four Devious Female Archetypes in Film (And How To Act Like Them)."

Jaguar's ad will run during the fourth quarter of Super Bowl XLVIII, which will be contested Feb. 2 at New Jersey's MetLife Stadium between the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks.
